A Rescue Gone Awry

a topic in Orsa of Terminus, a part of the RPG forum.

The lull in the war has ended, and the Orsa of Terminus is on the rise once more. Will the battle hardened Patronus remain strong, or fall under the growing might of this renewed threat? A mature roleplay. This forum is one large roleplay within a set world and designated story lines.

The being of shadow that was Silviana Melaidhrin did not even lift a hand, nor bat an eyelid as the knives flew towards her. As they neared her form, they slowed, before halting a good few feet from her body, clattering to the floor where unseen currents of air magic had left them. A deep and mocking laugh echoed from the throat of the being.

"You think to harm me with your little toys? Fool. Your magic is a candle to my roaring fire, your weapons no more use than a butter knife."

Throwing her head back, the being laughed, and as she did so darkness seemed to erupt from her like a volcano. This was no illusion, however, as Silviana's crown of shadow spell exploded outwards to envelop almost the entire house within its reaches, shadowy energy burning at the flesh of all others who remained inside. Obscuring vision almost totally, the shadows would make it hard to see even the length of an arm.

Silviana herself seemed to totally vanish from view within the cloud of shadow, though in truth she remained where she stood. She was confident that at the very least, her field of darkness would drive Lucien out of the house to avoid its corrosive and damaging effects, where all three of the attacking mages could have at him and his allies.

To take advantage of the hopeful surprise that the sudden cover of darkness would cause, Silviana lifted her hands. With a crackling of power, the battlemage discharged two powerful bolts of lightning towards Lucien's position - able to detect him by the benefit of her magic. After all, a shadow field that obscured your own senses entirely would be somewhat pointless. Silviana couldn't see, but she could feel where the shroud of darkness ate at her opponent.

Her Divination detected that there was definitely still two presences within the partially destroyed residence and three outside, including herself. Good. It would not do for reinforcements to suddenly drop in atop what could almost be called a sedate battlefield.

Well, at least until Scarlet retaliated.

Natalie allowed herself a smirk of amusement at the quips the headmistress delivered with razor sharp precision. Normally she would dismiss them as arrogant or self-serving but she knew better, magic wrapping itself around her as her frivolous thoughts faded into mental silence. All her concentration needed to be focused on reacting to whatever the Architect brought out on the offensive next and for a moment, she contemplated lending her assistance to the double barrage of fire and earth against their adversary.

The longer she escaped notice the better, despite all her desires to assist.

Her shield completed itself around her like a second skin, able to withstand all but the most damaging of assaults, no matter the nature of the offensive action. This too was maintained as a channelled spell, leaving Natalie's focus divided almost entirely between observing the fight and reacting to it accordingly.

You're protected. The children aren't here any more.

The telepathy granted by the Beholder's Spectacle conveyed the message to Scarlet in barely a second, for it was all she could afford to spare in case things took a turn for the worst.
Gasmask: Alright. Either your CD is corrupted, which'd explain the crashing and odd stuffs.
Imehal: Or?
Gasmask: Your windows really, really, really hates icewind dale.

Outside the building, Red took a moment to survey the area before ducking her way around the side of the building, and making a hasty departure from the vicinity. No doubt she would have to answer to the architect later, but it hadn't taken Red more than a glance to realize they were out numbered and didn't have the fire power necessary to win this fight. And further more, the recognition of Scarlet Dae had her mind working towards other plans. If the head mistress saw her here, any access Red currently had to the academy would be lost. No, better to slip out now and deal with the Architects wrath.

Meanwhile, inside the house however, the metallic scorpion had crawled its way up towards the ceiling, creeping its way closer to the combatants below. Due to its construct nature, Silviana's shadowy aura held no sway over it and its progress went unhindered.

The scent of burning wood and smoke was making its way into the area though, further adding to the visibility impairment caused by Silviana. The fire hadn't yet reached any integral parts of the building but the flickers of flames had caught and were slowly spreading in the other room.

Lucien blinked, so his preemptive guess had been wrong, however it would not give him a clear weakness. or so he thought. Lucien's mind calculating and pondering on the cause of the sudden blackness and how to evade it, a thought dawned on his cortex.

"Toys? You seem to think it is my goal to harm you." He let a thin smirk stretch across his facial features, his eyes filled with a flicker of contempt and ignorant pride. Only for it to be wiped off his smug visage as he was blasted with a lighting bolt, his entire body wracking with magical electric as he slowly fell to his knees and his hair stood on end, his thin lips forming words that even a sailor would blush at, barely managing to roll out of the way of the second projectile.

He placed his hands onto the floorboards, forcing his magical presence upon and under the floorboards and then ripping his arms up with a great shudder, the floorboards twisted and contorted before ripping upwards, sending nails and wooden spikes to rip upwards infront of him, shooting towards Silviana without much adieu.

The goal however, was to provide a distraction to allow him to escape without much hassle, without that god-forsaken witch getting in his way.

[Scene unfinished due to Vyral's extended absence. Assumed outcome: Patronus overpower the Orsa team, the only casualties are hired henchmen. The Orsa withdraw from the battle and regroup at a nearby safe-house.]
