{ Beliefs }
The fall was pain. But Gabriel felt like a fallen before he and his brothers and sisters were sent plumetting from the heavens. Now they're condemned to walk among these humans, unable to take their true form. Gabriel has nothing against humans. His father created them in his image, but his home is in the heavens. He wants to see the diamond gates and the take his rightful place at the left hand of the Father. And he doesn't. Part of him can't forgive his Father for what he did. He feels betrayed after having been such a loyal servant for so long, just to be cast out.... That is what fuels his apathy and his anger. Gabriel doesn't care about very many things anymore. He doesn't support Lucifer, but still has great love for the Father. Whether or not he can forgive him, that's the question.

"I was sent to destroy Jerusalem. I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah."

Image

[center]{ Personality }

"I am the fifth of five."

Apathetic. Once he was a fierce and fanatically loyal servant to his Father, but that slowly waned over the years. He was a messenger of good and terrible visions. He was used as a weapon, though not one as strong and fierce as his brother Michael. Michael was revered in Heaven. Gabriel was not one seen or heard of so often, so that meant that the only thing that spoke for Gabriel was his actions. This angel is a kind person, though that won't be your first impression. Your first impression would be strange and you'd wonder why someone who was the left hand of God; his messenger, could fall so far into a pit of despair and apathy. What he tries to tell himself and everyone else is, that he would rather be left alone, but given the chance, he would return to Heaven in a heartbeat. Gabriel has the gift of foresight and will sometimes help humans by whispering a certain future thing in their ears, or appearing to them. He believes they are capable of great good, but also great evil. He has seen how many religions on earth have used their faith to start wars and calling them "holy." That disgusts him, and sometimes he is so vengeful that he wishes the Father would grant him his fiery sword to cleanse his creation of these blackhearted humans.
Deep within him is the fire of heaven, though it needs to be rekindled. Gabriel is losing faith.

Gabriel

It was too noisy. But he had no intention of going back to the Silver City just yet. He would have to deal with his brothers and sisters and that would just annoy him more. It was as if everyone stared at him constantly, eyes on him all the time. Maybe that was just something he thought, but it still annoyed him. The mere thought of it bothered him. Being an angel on earth was strange. At least, Gabriel thought so. 'I suppose humans would describe it as..Uncomfortable.' To him, it felt as though his skin didn't fit or his true form didn't fit in this shell he'd been confined to. As if what he really was floated around inside this body like molten lava. It helped if he didn't think about it so much and occupied his mind with something else.

The inhuman, violet-colored orbs that were set in his skull were fixed on the pavement below him. Meanwhile, his mind attempted to block out all the noise and all the impressions of every soul around him. Angels could sort of sense each other when they were near, or at least see it instantly. Even in this form. It was harder for Gabriel, though. All the human interference made it hard to focus.
So far, Gabriel had wasted his time among these mortals. He couldn't sit down and imbibe alcohol as these humans did frequently. Hunger didn't encumber him in any way. Sure, he could eat but it had no effect on Gabriel. When you had tasted manna, the bread of heaven, nothing on earth compared. There was one thing he had taken a liking to. A great liking to. "Iced coffee", humans called it. Gabriel drank copious amounts of this savory drink.

Image

Due to his deep concentration and attempts to block out the noises and the interference around him, he did not notice the accident to his right. Only when one of the two females started swearing and shouting did he stop and look. His eyes travelled first to the ground where the angry one's coffee now was, studying her as she picked up the coffee cup. The other one was apologizing profusely. Even to Gabriel, who had not spent very much time among humans, sensed that her behavior was a little strange. He'd never heard anyone apologize that much or so politely in his time there.
The angel tilted his head and studied the two. The angry woman was the one who was being sorry now. His eyes moved back to the original excuser and they lingered. He wasn't standing very far from them - and was possibly looking quite odd in the middle of the street, staring - and that tingling sensation whenever one of his siblings were near slowly crawled up his spine. I know you... He thought, trying to get a better look at her face.

"If that was iced coffee, I'm terribly sorry." Gabriel stepped forward and looked at the angry woman. Why he started off with that, he didn't know. Conversations with humans were so different than conversations with other angels. "I beg you excuse the both of us, we are not locals."

Image"If that was iced coffee, I'm terribly sorry. I beg you excuse the both of us, we are not locals." A tall equally attractive blond man to the woman walked up and joined the conversation as Kirsten was wiping herself off with some napkins off an outdoor table. Fuuuck. It must have been the woman's boyfriend, great. Kirsten had a knack for pissing off everyone and their mother with her vulgar mouth. The man had a much more serious demeanor than his girlfriend with an intense gaze that bore into her eyes through to the back of her skull. She couldn't decide what color the man's eyes were, but they appeared unnaturally fluorescent as if he were wearing contacts. As a police officer she didn't get chills that often, was never intimidated, but she unconsciously found herself taking a step back. Either this man was being completely sarcastic in his apology or the couple was Canadian.

"It definitely wasn't iced coffee." she retorted unable to keep the snark out of her voice as she looked at her now splotchy red wrist, "But it's okay! I didn't mean to yell at your girlfriend here, I was just telling her it's been one Hell of a shitty day for me."

Their quiet stares were disconcerting, looking at her expectantly. She crumpled the dirty napkins in her hand, putting them in her cup and setting them on the table to be picked up by someone else."Oh well, this coffee shop is shit anyway. If you're not from around here I suggest you walk down four blocks and turn left and go to a little place called The Beanery. Best fuckin' cup of joe in LA. I just came here because it's closest to my work." No immediate answer. "Do you.. want me to take you guys there?" Why she was being so nice to these more than strange strangers was beyond her, maybe to relieve some of her guilt for being such a bitch, but most likely it was a subconscious ploy to keep herself outside a little longer so she didn't have to go back to her empty apartment.

Anael blinked, the woman's profanities washing over her like the water she'd fallen into. Perhaps she'd deserved it, she thought - her beverage was burning. The girl pulled away, leaving Anael standing awkwardly, trying to ignore the stares of people passing by. People had such an effect on her.

She turned her gaze away when the girl glanced up at her, unaware of how her position made her look. Surely if she could have had such a violent reaction, she was unhurt, Anael reasoned. "I'm… I'm sorry. Jesus. Look, I totally overreacted. It's.. just been one of those shitty days, you know?" Anael forced herself to bite back the words that leapt to mind at the mention of her half brother. "I understand," she replied carefully. "I hope you are not hurt."

A bolt of lightning leaped up her spine, and Anael jerked on the spot, the unfamiliar feeling striking her hard. What was that? Before she could investigate further, though, a new arrival absorbed her attention.

"If that was iced coffee, I'm terribly sorry. I beg you excuse the both of us, we are not locals." Anael felt rather than saw the man join her. The crowd passing by forced them closer, and as her arm brushed his she felt that same lightning. She turned to crane her head up to look at him. Familiar, but then again, not quite. Who...?

Anael considered the woman's offer for a moment. She was not disturbed by the man - as a matter of fact, he was almost calming. "I think I would like that," she finally accepted. "Perhaps I can buy you another cup of - coffee? As an apology? And we can have a look at that burn..." If it was coffee, Anael didn't know, but coffee was something these people seemed to enjoy, and as long as she was down here it would work to try and fit in.

Shifting, she took in the man beside her, eyes lingering on his face. Those eyes were so familiar.

There was a pause before she said anything. Apparently his appearance had made her loose her tongue. That hadn't been his intention. Interacting with humans was difficult. How they would react if they could see his true form was something he didn't even want to think about. It would be impossible for them to comprehend.
Millenia ago, when Gabriel conveyed his Father's messages to those it concerned, he'd appeared to them as "The Man In White.", a form that didn't reveal the radiance he and his siblings were born with. Still, their awe was apparent. When he'd delivered the message to Mary telling her how she would give birth to his half brother, she had nearly fainted. These thoughts reminded Gabriel of how old he was. To humans at least. For an angel it was not the same. Their perception of time was much different.
By the time his train of thought had ended, he found himself staring at the cursing woman who opened her mouth and spoke before he could.

Image

Girlfriend? His human form took on a confused expression and he looked to his left at Anael for a moment, but didn't answer the woman. Judging by his first impression of this woman, he decided that it was better to wait and make sure that she wasn't going to speak again. That proved wise. She didn't talk like the few other human's he'd recently encountered did. She swore much, much more and Gabriel found it strangely amusing. A second before he opened his mouth to reply to the woman's questions, his arm brushed the original excuser (who he assumed wasn't entirely human, for she was familiar to him), and he withdrew his hand as if he'd burned his skin.

"I'm afraid we do not have the...Time." That was a lie. They had plenty of time. Gabriel tried to look apologetic and sighed. "We can do it another time if you'd like?" That was polite, right? He turned his head to his left and let his eyes linger on the woman who was staring back at him already.

"You and I must talk." Gabriel stated simply and tilted his head. A crooked smirk started to tug at the corner of his mouth. Has he taken my memories as well? Something twisted and swirled within him. A flash of anger that briefly made his violet eyes flare, causing them to glow more intensely and vibrantly for a second or two. Gabriel could not remember who she was, this angel in front of him. It must have been a long time since they had seen each other, but now he was certain that she was indeed and angel. It also saddened him. They could sense each other and he used to be able to recognize his brothers and sisters, even when they took on other forms.
Gabriel seized the other angel by the wrist and felt that jolt shoot up his spine once more. He took a few steps along the street, away from the vulgar caffeine-addict. "Who are you?"

Image Raphael took in his appearance once again. He ran his fingers across his skin, hair, and lips while staring into the mirror that adorned the wall of his bathroom. A feeling of slight familiarity filled him as he looked into his bright blue eyes. The almost ethereal glow in them was a slight reminder of what he was. He’d had the same eyes before, from the first time he’d been human, but things were different then. Mankind wasn’t like it was now. Sighing, he rinsed his face. Remember, why you were sent here again Raphael. Mankind deserves the same love that you have for the father. He constantly reminded himself of this, but it was easier said than done.

Going about his normal early morning ritual, Raphael washed himself and reluctantly got dressed. Having a human form was already a bit strange, but having to put clothes on it as well was the equivalent of putting on a rubber suit then pulling on leather over it. Nonetheless, it was necessary to humans, so he obliged. Now that he was dressed, Raphael headed to the world meant for mankind.

When he arrived, the streets were busy with morning traffic and people rushing to wherever they felt they needed to be. This, of all things, intrigued him. People would rush even when they had nothing to do, and it was ridiculous. He turned behind him, spotting a small shop with a vending machine outside of it. He inserted a small amount of money and got back a very cold bottle of water. He found that holding a beverage helped him to look more normal, considering his movements were still a bit stiff.

Raphael sat on a bench, water in hand, and observed his surroundings. In a taxi, a man hung out the window and yelled obscenities at another man who was also hanging out his window. Slightly wincing at the foul language, Raphael sat back and looked toward the sky, and suddenly he felt very homesick.

He turned to his right as he heard a very loud, very long stream of cursing to see a woman, covered in coffee and another one apologizing profusely. The first woman shouted at the second while she was squatting on the ground.

β€œI’m… I’m sorry. Jesus. Look, I totally overreacted.” She stood up, β€œIt’s.. just been one of those shitty days, you know?”

Well at least that one apologized for the profanity she used. As he caught a glimpse of her face, Raphael recognized the second woman. Oh Anael… He knew it was Anael the moment he saw her face. Her eyes gave it away; that gentel glow could be no one but Anael. Smiling slightly to himself, Raphael continued to observe the scene as another person approached. He spoke in a strange way as well, not completely blending into the conversation like a normal human would. Figuring it was another angel looked on even more curious.

"Perhaps I can buy you another cup of - coffee? As an apology? And we can have a look at that burn..."

Raphael sat up a slight bit as an instinct triggered within him. A burn? Squinting his eyes at the woman, he tensed. As an angel of healing, he automatically wanted to help her.

”I’m afraid we do not have the…Time.”

Raphael barely heard the male angel speak to the woman as he was craning his neck to observe the woman’s injury. As the angels stepped away, Raphael got a full look at the woman’s burn. Her wrist was turning red from the scalding liquid. Gripping his bottle of water, he stood up and stiffly walked over to the woman, now being able to see the reddened skin on the woman’s wrist. He walked directly to her and gently pressed the cold bottle to her wrist while holding her hand palm up with the other.

β€œCold objects work well to help minor burns. Here."

As he did so he glanced over his shoulder and saw Anael and the man. Once again, the eyes gave away the angel’s identity. As Raphael realized he was looking at Gabriel, he also realized how strange his actions had been. Raphael put the woman’s other hand onto the bottle and stepped back, embarrassed and smiling slightly to possibly help the situation. Humans feel more at ease with smiling…right? Or does it just make it worse?

"I'm afraid we do not have the... time." Anael hid her surprise - who was he to tell her what to do? Still, she smiled, playing along. "Another day, then, I'm afraid, if we have the fortune to meet again," she spoke smoothly, reaching out for Kirsten's shoulder, this time squeezing it comfortingly, mentally projecting warm and calm feelings to the woman, all earlier quarrel forgotten.

She turned and met the man's gaze steadily, unintimidated. She was Anael, angel of God, and no man, mortal or otherwise, would push her around without good reason. "You and I must talk." She turned to flash another apologetic smile at Kirsten, then was propelled away from her by the man, wrist all but sparking with lightning from where he was holding her.

"Who are you?" Anael shook him off angrily, pulling her wrist free. "Perhaps I should be asking you that," she hissed. "Have you no respect? Petty and insignificant that exchange may have seemed, but surely you would allow me a little dignity and will of my own?" He was much taller than she was, but she turned her whole body to him, pulling herself up as tall as she could muster, shoulders straight and pushed back, eyes fixed on his. Still no recognition, no sign as to who he was, but she plowed on anyway.

"Maybe I am no longer as powerful as I once was in Heaven, but I believe I deserve your respect, a basic human decency as these people have found," she continued frostily. "But if you must know, I am Anael. Pray tell your identity."

She must be confused by now. Very confused. Gabriel thought to himself, smiling slightly at the idea. He could understand why. After so many years of conveying messages from God to humans, he had gotten an impression of how difficult it sometimes was for humans and angels to interact and make each other understood. The other angel followed and played along without making a fuzz. Gabriel didn't expect that she would. He hadn't really talked to any of his siblings since the Fall and he was almost certain that he knew who this angel before him was, but wanted to draw the name from her lips. The energy released between them was not something he was a stranger too, but this form he was trapped in was. It felt strange; more powerful than it did in Heaven. It was as if his hand was being electrocuted and on fire at the same time. The sensation made it all the way to his heart. And then it was gone.

Image

She had let go. Or rather, she had tore her wrist free of his grasp. Gabriel he merely wanted to pull her away so he could talk to her and find out who she was, but apparently his sister didn't share that idea.
"Have you no respect? Petty and insignificant that exchange may have seemed, but surely you would allow me a little dignity and will of my own?" She said to his surprise. Gabriel had meant no harm and no offense in what he was doing. It was difficult for him not to smirk the way he always did because he found it slightly amusing. Why, he didn't know. She turned towards him and puffed herself up even though he was much taller than she was. That might not make a difference though since the might of an angel wasn't determined by gender.

The form before him continued and confirmed that she was of Heaven. Gabriel's smile widened at that. Then she told him her name. Anael. Of course! Anael! A hand was brought up and rested calmly and easily on her shoulder, his thumb touching her cheek.
"Sweet sister..." Gabriel said and looked her in the eyes with his violet ones. "You have my greatest respect."
The joy he felt of having found, well... The Joy of God was immense. His memories of Anael had always been associated with positive things. Gabriel did love his siblings, but he was very fond of Anael. "Trapped in this form I could not recognize you, though I knew you were my sister." And that thought obviously saddened him as it was evident on his face. "It is me...Gabriel."

Anael was very much surprised when, instead of responding in kind, the man - no, angel - placed a hand on her shoulder, thumb resting on her cheek. "Sweet sister... You have my greatest respect."

She blinked once, slightly flustered. "You are..." she started quietly, gaze locked on his. "It is me... Gabriel," he finished for her. A wave of understanding rushed over her, and she reached up, gripping his shoulders tight.

"Gabriel! I never would have guessed - forgive me, my senses are not what they used to be... Gabriel, how I have missed you!" Anael beamed brightly, having no words to express how glad she was. Gabriel, though of higher rank than she was, always made time for her. Throwing all control to the wind, she stepped forward and pulled him into a hug, cheek pressed against his chest. "I'm so glad you found me," she mumbled. "How have you been?"

She seemed surprised that he didn't retort and answer her in the same tone. Gabriel could understand why she was confused, but he had expected that she would have recognized him by now. After all, they were siblings. And they had met many times before in their long, long lives. It seemed to don on her that he was an angel as well, and now she seemed to try and figure out which of her brothers he was.

As soon as he had spoken his name, two small and petite - though strong and firm hands grabbed his shoulders. His eyes were still locked on hers as he could easily see how she now recognized him. Gabriel had forgiven her before she apologized. It was not easy for the angels to spot their siblings now that they had been condemned to another form, and another world.

Image

Anael pulled him into a hug and it made him smile. Though they were not home and though they were not truly themselves, she was still how he remembered her. That was a good thing.
"You are forgiven, sister." Gabriel told her when they finally broke the hug. He smiled and looked at her. "I didn't know if it really was you back there either, I could sort of... Feel it." And that was true. He didn't know why it had been so strong though, and even now he could feel that same electrifying feeling running through his veins after their hug. Was this how humans felt when they were touched by an angel?

"Oh, I am glad I found you too, Anael." He admitted, still smiling. He really was. Gabriel had purposely not gone back to the Silver City because he'd rather not run into his brothers and sisters. That plan had backfired, but now here he was with Anael and it wasn't so bad at all. He hadn't seen her in such a long time either, so long in fact that he could scarce remember the last time they spoke.
"I have been better, I must say." He frowned for a minute and looked down at the ground. He didn't have to explain why, she knew already. Anael probably felt the same. "What about you?" He asked, violet eyes returning to meet hers, his left hand still resting on her shoulder.

Anael finally pulled back from the embrace, knowing that people were staring and it would not do to draw too much attention to themselves. "Yes, I believe it is a natural reaction between us," she replied, feeling her palms sizzle from their contact alone. Her cheek was still tingling where she'd pressed it near where his heart was, nerve endings more sensitive to her siblings than they'd ever been.

"I have been better, I must say. What about you?" She turned her gaze away uncomfortably. "You know full well the answer, brother. I have not been coping well with this change of location." Mind turning back to Gabriel's first words to her since she'd taken this wretched form, she tried for a smile and a lighter tone. "You like coffee, do you not? We can talk over it. Come on." With that, she turned away and started down the street, looking out for a coffeeshop.

"You have not been to the Silver City, Gabriel," she tossed over her shoulder. "You should come along with me later. It is much more peaceful, and we are not at all obliged to deal with humans, although Zachariah comes along every once in a while and I am forced to speak to him and endure him. It would help very much if you were present to distract me."

The sensation that went through her also went through him. It was just something they would have to get used to. Gabriel had experienced it before when in physical contact with humans or other angels, but never like this. Their bodies were not meant to contain what they really were.
Anael had pulled away from the hug, to his relief. Not because he had anything against her, quite the contrary, but because she was right. It wouldn't do to draw too much attention to themselves. The joy he felt of having found Anael was much greater than he had expected, but he didn't have time to linger on that thought for long.

Her expression changed and for an instant it was as if the joy had gone out of her. It took Gabriel by surprise though he did know the answer. She was right. Had any of them, though? If there was an angel content with being confined to this form all because their father wanted to teach them a lesson, that angel surely had not crossed his path. When he looked back upon her face, her expression had changed again, but now a smile graced her features. Gabriel smiled crookedly and he nodded. She did not leave him much of a choice, though, but he followed gladly. "The only positive thing I have experienced so far, down here." He said with a frown that quickly turned to another smirk. "Coffee and finally seeing you again, dear sister."

Somewhere deep in his mind he wondered if she knew what it felt like to be cast down and to be alone as he had? Had Anael found one of their brothers or sisters shortly after their fall? Had she wandered restlessly as well, without hope and in despair?
"You have not been to the Silver City, Gabriel." Anael's voice pulled him away from those thoughts that had dampened his spirit. Now was the time to feel joy. It would be impossible not to, with her near him. "You should come along with me later. It is much more peaceful, and we are not at all obliged to deal with humans, although Zachariah comes along every once in a while and I am forced to speak to him and endure him. It would help very much if you were present to distract me." Gabriel thought about it as he followed by her side and looked out for a place they could go for coffee. The mention of their brother's name brought a frown to his face, but he shrugged. "Perhaps you're right." The angel finally let out. "And if there is peace there, for us, I would gladly go. As for Zachariah..." He sighed, remembering him. "Our combined patience should endure, don't you think?" He gave her a reassuring smile, took her hand and squeezed it before letting go.
Most didn't recall Gabriel as he was around Anael. Often he was harsh and strict, though definitely not without compassion. Anael just had a way of taking troubles off your shoulders. Even if you talked about things that troubled you - as they currently were - it felt like you could overcome them. That was how he saw Anael and that was part of why she was so dear to him.

β€œI thought I heard my name.” A deep baritone voice interrupted their conversation.

Zachariah appeared behind the shoulder of his brother Gabriel. β€œGabriel, long time no see. You’ve been elusive as of late.” Zachariah stated, walking to the front of the pair his fingers pointed in a steeple thoughtfully. β€œI should have thought to look for you in more of these coffee establishments.. Many humans have addictive personalities such as your own vessel, brother.” They knew at this point he had been eavesdropping on their conversation long enough to know of Gabriel’s fondness of coffee.

To imply that Gabriel had any human weakness such as addiction was a rather deprecating thing to point out, but it was hard to tell if Zachariah actually meant his comment meanly or if he was simply disappointed in his inability to find Gabriel sooner by deduction. He often said things he observed aloud even to the detriment of his relationships, so impartial and curt he was almost self-defeating. β€œShall we grab a cup of coffee together for a little archangel reunion?” He dropped his hands down to his side, spinning around in expectation they would follow him which they did so reluctantly.

They found the coffee shop two blocks down which the cop had mentioned to them earlier. It was a happening place with local art hanging on the walls, university students surfing the net on free wifi, and hipsters in thick-rimmed glasses serving up certified organically grown cups of coffee to their environmentally conscious clientele. Zachariah ordered black tea rather than coffee and a β€œbiscuit”. When the barista gave him a strange look he pointed to the pastry behind the glass display he was looking at and pronounced very slowly and clearly for her, β€œthe COO-kee”. He glanced sideways at his siblings, rolling his eyes to share his frustration of having to deal with such simple minded creatures. Once his siblings had ordered their own drinks with a subtle wave of his hand they by-passed the register without payment and took a seat at a table.

β€œI must say, I do like having taste buds it’s one of the few things I have enjoyed since the fall, but hunger is so inconvenient to have to deal with. I feel there are more important things to do than eat but this bloody vessel..” he sighed, dunking the tea bag in his cup. β€œI can only imagine how our younger siblings are faring having to deal with all these lesser base instincts.”

Anael was pleasantly surprised when Gabriel reached out and squeezed her hand. She turned back briefly, her lips tugging upwards into a faint smile. "Yes, I think so," she replied.

She was interrupted by a rather unexpected appearance. "I thought I heard my name." Anael stopped abruptly, nearly walking into a lamppost. "Zachariah!" Of course, being her brother, he was not unwelcome, so to speak, but his sudden (and uninvited) appearance, added to the fact that he'd been eavesdropping for a while, was rather enough to ruffle her feathers - metaphorically.

"Shall we grab a cup of coffee together for a little archangel reunion?" Anael's gaze shot heavenward, but she nodded, albeit a little reluctantly, and began trailing after Zachariah. "You want to watch what you say, brother. People are extraordinarily perceptive sometimes," she warned, glancing around to see if anyone had registered the words archangel reunion. Apparently none had, as they went on their way with no further interruption.

The coffee shop was... unexpected. The doors, automated instead of the usual metal-handled ones many other establishments preferred, slid open smoothly, a wave of cool air rushing out to ruffle Anael's hair. The air conditioning was followed instantly by music, which was not soft by any means but did not drown out the chatter emanating from the coffee shop's patrons. Many of them were hunched over their various devices, phone and tablets and laptops, and for a moment Anael wondered the point of it all.

Still, there was a general sense of easygoing friendliness, and Anael found herself returning the smile of the person behind the counter. Upon hearing the disdain in Zachariah's voice grow even more pronounced, she turned and raised her eyebrows at Gabriel, a look that meant You see what I have to deal with?

It took Anael a while to squint at the many types of drinks listed above their heads. She finally settled on a mocha breve, which, while still a little unknown, sounded nice and tasted good, as she found. "Thank you," she said smoothly, sailing past the cashier on Zachariah's heels to a table.

"I think we are supposed to find some enjoyment in eating," she observed, taking a sip of her coffee. "What could you possibly have to do that is so important?"

The smile she sent him was pleasant and Gabriel returned it. A moment later it was replaced though, by a frown and an easily sensed unease and annoyance. He sighed and hoped that his sister would not react negatively. He knew her quite well and didn't expect her to, but he also knew that Zachariah wasn't her favourite brother, so to speak, and the way he had approached them didn't make it easier for her.
"Brother." He said by way of greeting. He studied him with a raised eyebrow, staying silent until Zachariah opened his mouth again. Maybe I should have said something first, after all. And he regretted that he hadn't. What came out of his brother's mouth was more of an insult than anything else. At least to Gabriel. He was unsure whether he meant what he said as an insult or something else, but Gabriel's pride was easily wounded.

Before he could retaliate, they were on their way again. "Agreed." Gabriel said, following Anael's words. She was right. It wouldn't do to draw too much attention to themselves. Even his brother's way of turning around and walking off, expecting them to follow annoyed him. Zachariah was a very special personality to figure out and handle, and Gabriel did not have an abundance of patience.

The coffee shop was... Nice. There were people there, but they weren't noisy. Earth was always noisy, he had found. The streets, shopping malls, everywhere. Noise. More than he could bear sometimes, but in here it was easier to relax. Gabriel followed his siblings quietly, instead studying the people that occupied the coffee shop with deep interest. As an angel he did not understand their obsession with computers and tablets and cellphones. But there were many things regarding humans that he did not understand and possibly never would.
The look his sister shot him made him smile for a brief moment, a smile that was meant to have the same effect on her. If he could, he'd try to make this easier and less frustrating for her. And she's the patient one. He shrugged to himself and proceeded to order his drink.

"Learn to live with it." Gabriel said, offensively to his brother. He took a sip of his iced coffee and tilted his head to the right. "This is what we have been confined to, and we mustn't disobey Father." He didn't feel like he had been planted among lesser creatures. Gabriel doubted the meaning of why they were here, what the lesson was and the idea behind it, but these humans were also Father's creations.

"I think we are supposed to find some enjoyment in eating,” Anael said wisely, ever the optimist, and then in a more curious tone asked. "What could you possibly have to do that is so important?" "Trying to find a way to get us and our siblings back home. Other than that nothing of grave importance." Zachariah shrugged. He was not about to tell her about his little book club meeting this evening. He didn't need them to think him even more of an oddball than he already was or that God forbid he was growing soft. His brother then spoke up after Anael. "Learn to live with it." Gabriel suggested with a less than subtle hint of annoyance. He took a sip of his iced coffee and tilted his head to the right. "This is what we have been confined to, and we mustn't disobey Father."

This statement seemed to spur an unexpected stab of emotion and his blue eyes lit up. β€œWhat orders are you obeying? How do you know what Father wants?” he asked pointedly to his sibling. β€œWe all used to think that we knew what He wanted and now look where we are.” He realized then his words were on the edge of mutinous and he quickly settled down, his blue eyes reverting back to normal. In a more reasonable tone of voice he said, β€œI am not suggesting that what our Father has done to us is unjustified or that He had no reason. The problem is I don’t believe we are asking the right questions. In fact, we are not asking questions at all.”

It was what always set him apart from his siblings: questions. He wanted to know the why behind everything. Well, Lucifer had too and as much as he hated to admit it now they had been close. Ever since his brother had been cast out of Heaven curiosity and questioning of God’s will became dangerous. Zachariah turned even more in on himself and was careful with what thoughts he shared with his siblings. He was even hesitant in what little he was sharing now. β€œAnyways, I won’t be able to find a way off this rock by myself. The place is simply too big and filled with too many empty gourds. I need..” He was about to say the word help, but it sounded far too vulnerable in his mind and he quickly changed it to β€œAssistance. Will you two assist me?"

Anael watched Zachariah's eyes light up with hidden fury, and reached out, one hand on Gabriel's arm and one on Zachariah's, ready to break up a fight if the situation required so of her. She let Zachariah talk - it seemed to help, and it was disturbing no one.

"Look," she began hesitantly, "our Father is a complex being. Who can rightly say what exactly He wants, when He wants it? See all the times we have trusted Him when He told us to do something, look at Abraham, Joseph, Elijah. The Lord's motives are hidden, but they have reason, and I truly hope we will learn them soon. But until then, we should trust in Him, as He does not see that our questions - your questions, Zachariah, are important now. You will find answers in due time."

Anael knew Zachariah's analytical mind, and she knew it was possible nothing in this world would ever satisfy him to the fullest, which was a terrible thing to admit but true nonetheless. She'd always tried to be patient with him, and though they didn't get along all the time they were still siblings, and she hoped there would be no conflict between them.

"Zachariah, I promise you we will return to whence we came from, and should you need help finding the way you can rely on us. I presume that is the assistance you require?"

Michael sneered satisfactorily as Hael finally cowed. Perhaps she didn't not agree with his totalitarian rule, but she knew when she was outmatched, and that passion dosed temper of hers was snuffed out in the shadow of the archangel's unflinching fury. He allowed his gaze to trail away from her angelic face to the now emptied store around them. He'd leave her to her little paints and playthings, to indulge in being a human. He had matters more worth his time. Michael deserted her with a foreboading, "I'll be keeping my eye on you." and left the art supply shop in relatively one piece, save a few pastel displays and rattled windows now in lose frames.

Outside, still seething from the argument last had, he marched straight back to the Silver City to call his most trusted few to his side. It was a time for action, not for this idle nonsense that softer angels preached. He mainlined to the glass tower that acted as his temporary 'home' and office, and sounded what was known as The Horn Of Gabriel--named such by it's creator, Michael's battle born second in command. It was not a literal horn, but a sigil drawn in the blood of an archangel. He sliced his palm and drew it on the board room wall, activating it's Holy call before settling in at the head of a long oaken table that bore scours of enochian runes on it, some for peace and strength, and others meant for secrecy. The sound of the horn would reach all the top tier angels such as Gabriel, Anael, and Zachariah; and they would all know what it heralded and where they were needed. This was not the first time they would have met there in Michael's home, that was the purpose of this room altogether, a place for them to assemble, however it would be the first time under circumstances such as these. The other angels could not predict just what Michael had in mind...not this time, for he was teetering on the brink of utter outrage, his implaccable nature inflamed by Hael's disobedience. He meant to strike up a war.

Zachariah was smart. Very smart. For a moment, Gabriel feared that holy war and all his problems and dealings with humans and other creatures of his father's creation, had slowed his mind. Perhaps not. Perhaps his brother was just more intelligent than him. Gabriel was more quick to anger. He looked more like Michael in that regard. Not too much, I hope. The thought scent a chill down his spine.
Fortunately, his dear sister was there to calm them both. Though his brother's analytic nature annoyed him at the moment, he was surprised by the last request he put forth.

Zachariah asked for their help. Gabriel had not expected that. He was under the impression that his brother meant to win Father's grace and return to his side on his own. He let Anael talk for them though. When they were done, his eyes met Zachariah's and he nodded. Gabriel would help him if he could and the cause was worthy, as well as the means. How they were going to get back into Heaven, he did not know. He was confused, troubled, frustrated and restless all at the same time. Why this had been done to them, he honestly couldn't understand. "We will help you, brother." Gabriel finally said and leaned back in his seat. "Though know thi-"

The sensation from when he had touched Anael earlier, the jolt of electricity that went up his spine when their skin touched suddenly struck him, though much harder. Gabriel knew that feeling all to well. He had made so many angels feel that exact same thing for thousands of years. "He's calling us." He said, his eyes suddenly glowing violet again. They had no choice but to obey and answer the Horn of Gabriel. It was used to convene them as well as sound the Judgment Day - though not one single human seemed to be noticing anything at all, so it had in this case not been used for the latter.

Zachariah didn’t even so much as twitch at the sound of the horn. He impudently ignored it as if he were the rest of the human population unable to hear it, sipping his tea while Anael and Gabriel stopped in high alert like meerkats scoping for the direction of the sound. β€œHe’s calling us.” Gabriel said. It was only then Zachariah set down his tea on the table and gave a martyred roll of the eyes. β€œWell, than I guess we should all be going,” Zachariah stated standing and brushing his coat off. He didn’t like being at the beck and call of his brother Michael, he seemed to blow the horn on a whim just to remind himself he could have them running to him like obedient dogs with a whistle. To be fair, this was his first time on Earth using it, but it didn’t make Zachariah any more interested in going, especially when he had something more entertaining to attend.

He walked behind his siblings out the door of the cafe but swiftly turned the opposite direction down the street as soon as they were outside. β€œI shall catch up to you both when I am done with business.” He told them, not bothering with an explanation. He left them and walked to the address on the flyer still in his pocket, the book tucked safely within the confines of his jacket. The location was a bit more out of the way than expected, down a one way drive lined with trees and white picket fences. It stood in stark contrast to the rest of LA’s concrete jungle, quiet with the packed streets only a distant buzz in the background. The street was called Wayward which Zachariah ironically wondered if that was the direction he was going. Waywardly.

He approached the respectable looking brownstone home at the end of the drive and knocked on the door. He waited a beat or two for an answer, the thought of lamb’s blood smeared over door frames in Egypt warding death away crossed his mind while he stood there. What an odd memory to recollect. When the door was not answered right away he knocked again this time with rapid impatience.

The call struck Anael hard. The Horn of Gabriel exerted a great pull over her, and had she been able to retain her wings Anael would have gone over as fast as she could.

"He's calling us." "Yes, yes he is," she breathed. "Let's go, come on." She stood abruptly, pushing her chair back with a screech. She and Gabriel followed Zachariah outside, but then he turned away. "I shall catch up to you both when I am done with business." Anael watched him go, slightly puzzled at how Zachariah could ignore the call of the Horn of Gabriel as though it were nothing. "Hurry along!" she called after his back.

She turned in a few circles, as though Michael could be standing right there. "Where do we go?" she asked Gabriel. "Where is it calling you?" She closed her eyes and shut out the bustle of the people around her, and thought back to the sound of the Horn. No, she could not find it.

"I can't find it." Anael frowned. "Mortality is annoying. Gabriel, what do you think?"
