Adacia

Adacia

Every village, town, and city in Adacia is ruled by a lord or headman who had sworn their vows to the throne. But what happens when the king passes away and only his ten year old granddaughter, the rightful heir of the throne is left?

Introduction

The old man drew a heavy, shuddering breath as he struggled to keep his eyes opened and clung to life like a child would cling to its mother. Carefully he took the little child’s tiny and smooth hand into his old and wrinkled one. Sadness reflected in his old eyes as he gazed at his granddaughter tiredly, drawing another heavy breath. "It was not supposed to be like this," the old man whispered weakly in a raspy voice, "if only my son has still lived," he continued, carefully stroking her hand with his thumb, "if only your father was still alive, princess. Then you would not have to bear this burden upon your shoulders at such a young age..." the old king smiled at her sadly, worthlessly, "don't repeat the mistakes your father made, child. He was brave, but a fool at heart," the old king shook his head as he sighed heavily, "if only he had not been so eager to rush into war..." the old kings mouth twitched awkwardly as he shut his eyes, his hand starting to become limp, "promise me, child," he whispered, "promise me you will run the realm with wisdom in mind," the old man drew a few last shuddering breaths, before he went totally still.

Ah, the realm of Adacia. A sandbox world where the dream of power over magic and wonder have the impact on each and every character in its own unique way. Although most use this in an innocent fashion, many of the nobles have become greedy for it, also driving everything that happens within Adacia. Essentially, this power drives Adacia's exploration, love and war, lust and betrayal, promises and deceit, poverty and wealth. Even with this evil, good can be found within the discovery of new locations and species. Power is good and evil, not one versus the other, so... Which side do you favor with your power?

Every village, town, and city in Adacia is ruled by a lord or headman. These are usually noble families who were handpicked by the king. These were people he trusted. But what happens when the king passes away? When all that is left is his ten years old granddaughter to inherit the throne? Will the nobles remain loyal to the vows they took before the king, or will they turn their backs on their promises, and greedily grasp after every straw of power and wealth there is? After all, the queen is nothing but a child, one with only a title to give her power. She holds no power over magic. No power over wisdom and knowledge. No power over them. They have been given the perfect opportunity to seize control.

***

Basically, you can play any kind of character you wish, limited only to the different species that exist in this RPG and locations. However, the more your characters explore and find things out, the more the world will grow and species and locations will be added. Other than that nothing is pre set, and everything can happened. As mentioned before, it is a sandbox role play where just anything is possible.

Species

Humans
A human is a living being who is incapable of possessing supernatural abilities. Despite having no supernatural abilities, however, humans have exceptionally developed brains which enable them of abstract reasoning, language, problem solving, and introspection (i.e. self-observation of one's own thoughts, feelings, or 'souls' in spiritual cases). The distinguishing features that define them as a 'person' are the high-leveled thought processes such as self-awareness, exercise of reasoning (i.e. rationality), and wisdom.

Mages

A few humans are born with the ability to control magic, and can draw mana from their surroundings to with help of that practice magic. These individuals are rare, though, and only a few of those existing are actually powerful. Every so called mage usually has connection to one of the four elements, and are only capable of using magic connected to it. Those who wield more than one element, tend to only be able to use weaker spells. So really, it is good if a mage finds out what their best element early on, and thereafter focuses on only that.

Witches
Witches are generally female, although there have been a very few male ones, who are dedicated to the dark arts (in most cases). Witches are incapable of crossing running water, can't stand the touch of silver, and detest rowen wood and salt. Iron weakens them as well. Their powers include casting spells, the concoction of potions, superhuman speed, and finally great strength that rivals and exceeds that of a full grown man. Many tend to have a very exquisite nose and hearing as well. Powerful witches, when killed, may come back as a type of spirit or ghost who feeds on human flesh. The only ways to be sure that you are rid of a witch is to either burn her or eat her heart. The former version is understandably the generally preferred method to dispose of them.

Selkies
The shy Selkies are marine creatures in the shape of a seal. A female can shed her skin and come ashore as a beautiful woman. When a man finds the skin, he can force the Selkie to be a good, if somewhat sad, wife. Should she ever recover the skin, she will immediately return to sea, leaving her husband behind. The male Selkies are responsible for storms and also for the sinking of ships, which is their way of avenging the hunting of seals.

Mermaids
These are very attractive maidens from the waist up and with the lower-half of a fish below. They are able to transform into a full human form to attend markets and fairs to buy items. Though they can be on land for a while, they will always long to the sea. The sea is where they belong, and if a mermaid is kept from it, she will become very depressed. Usually they are seen out at sea on a rock combining their long hair.

Sirens
Even if sirens are maidens of the sea, much like the mermaids, there are several vital differences. Instead of a siren having only a fishtail and then the upper body of a maiden, even the human looking parts tend to have scales. The overall appearance of a siren is more fish/sea monster like. Their hair usually is shades you may find underwater or in the sea, as is their skin. Their teeth are usually pointy, made for taring in flesh. However, there is still an enchanting beauty with them, and their singing voices can be as hypnotic as destructive. As they feed on human life force and flesh, they are known for luring fishermen and sailors to them, before pulling them underwater and drowning them.

Sylvie leaned close to her to whisper "I..I'm not sure but I think she's connected to my doll" she whispered as the girl approached. Talking in their own language was a risk but it was hard to speak english or not speak at all. She sighed and watched the little girl approach them. She didn't understand why she held power but at the same time adults held power over her.

Elsebeth frowned looking at the doll. " What is that? " She asked. She wished that she knew more about the doll, if she had been told earlier she might have been able to find out something before they were in the castle. Elsebeth smiled at Sylvie reassuringly, she hoped that it'd be okay, castles scared her a little anyway but as long as she didn't say anything all would be fine.

Verna's mouth drooled as she saw half a dozen cooks place bread and rolls onto the table. As she headed for the table the food was placed on, a shout rang through the room. "There she is! She knocked me out and stole from me! Get her!" In a matter of seconds, guards charged at her. Verna quickly jumped up on the table, fighting solders with chairs and plates. She spied a chandelier above her. She waited for a tall guard to hop on the table. Once he did, she climbed up his shoulders and grabbed onto the chandelier. She swung wildly around before she grabbed onto a banner. As soon as she did, the chandelier broke and fell out of the ceiling. Verna clung to the banner. This was not part of her plan. There was a loud ripping sound that echoed through the room. "Crap," verna muttered.

Floralia walked up to the young women, immediately recognizing the one's face, but... how is she walking... on legs? Floralia paused in her thoughts, listening to the mermaid-in-human form that attempted to say her name, or something similar. These were not only foreigners, but mermaids... or at least the one was. She gently nodded her head to the servants within the room, as the two "foreigners" talked between themselves, dismissing them. She then motioned for them to follow her into another room, lighting a candle on the way. Sitting down in her sleeping clothes on the luxurious furniture, Flora demonstrated for the women to do the same. Miming as she talked, she slowly said, "I don't know what you're saying... and... I you don't know what I'm saying." She then pointed to the doll and gave the mermaid a quizzical glance. "How did you get that?" She asked, a flashback from her childhood entering her mind as she asked.

~~

"Floralia, you need to come in now! There's a storm coming and things are not safe at night... Please come in... Your mother would have wanted you to come in." Floralia's father begged her to come into the palace as it was getting very late. The little girl of only three continued to throw her temper tantrum.

"I don't want to! I want to stay outside! Please! Mommy gave me a dolly and Mommy would have let me..." At this, her father picked her up angrily and carried her over to his horse so they could ride home from the fields. He was not going to have his child say anything about his wife and her mother. It was her fault she was gone and she was also all he had left of her and he wasn't about to allow her to ridiculously commit suicide at age three by staying out in the dark.

"Bad things happen to kids at night, so you will come in." He growled, throwing her onto his stallion as he jumped up himself. She was crying and screaming so much now that he couldn't understand anything she was saying. Little did he know that his little girl's favorite possession from her mother had been left behind, and that's what she was crying about.

After he got her to sleep that evening, he realized this treacherous error and immediately sent the royal guards out at the first light to look for it. However, it was never found and presumed missing forever due to the winds of the storms. Little Floralia only had one thing left of her mother besides her blood, a little locket that she placed on her neck that day and never took off from then on.

~~

Floralia pointed to the doll and then to herself. "That. Was. Mine..." She whispered, calling a servant into the sitting area from outside, "Please fetch Sir Christopher. I must speak with him immediately!" She exclaimed, looking back to the women sitting before her. She felt tears slipping out of her eyes as she attempted to compose herself, but soon was completely crying and had to run out of the room. She missed her father more than anything and that doll was as much a reminder of him as it was of her mother.

Elsebeth frowned, had Sylvie stolen the doll? She felt bad as the child started crying and moved towards her, wanting to comfort her. As she ran out of the room Elsebeth looked at Sylvie as if asking if she should go after her but without waiting for an answer ran after the princess. As she ran after the girl, further into the castle, she cursed herself for following her whim, this would be just perfect if she got arrested here, for trying to comfort a silly princess.

Sylvie stood there stunned. What had she done? She didn't understand why the girl was so upset, it was supposed to be a happy reunion with the doll. Do humans really put curses on things? Was the doll cursed? She quickly followed Elsbeth, tripping several times on her newly formed legs and annoying long skirt. She grasped the doll in her hand firmly, maybe the doll was identical to the little girl? It was rather curious, she had never heard of dolls and humans being exactly alike. She wished she could understand their language but she was only able to analyze the tone of voice.

Lucille yawns, and frowns. She barely slept at all. She walks around, in a small circle, obviously bored. She rubs the sides of her arms.
She was cold, and bored. Her face saddening, she smelled food. It was at the castle. She slowly edged towards the castle, her hunger bothering her.
It isn't that far away, she thought, walking quicker and quicker.

Christopher quickly started making his way towards the throne room, as soon as he had gotten the message about the ladies. This did either sound fishy, or there really was nothing to worry about. He wasn't sure what he should think, though; only that the queens safety was first priority, and if she indeed was in danger (which was a possibility, but Christopher did somehow doubt two ladies would put the queen in danger), he would do everything to protect her. After all, the queen was all Christopher had left from... "No!" he snapped at himself, his voice echoing through the corridor. His eyes widened as he realized he had spoken aloud, and a few maids turned around to stare at him in surprise. Flushing inwardly, he carried on towards the throne room, muttering something to himself under his breath as the sounds of his footsteps echoed through the hallway. "I do not have time for this..."

He stepped into the throne room and glanced around, his eyes narrowed as he watched the queen and the ladies. Per automatic, he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword and watched them wearily for a moment, before clearing his throat. "Excuse me, ladies... but may I ask; what is going on? Why have you come here in the middle of the night; which does seem very suspicious- no offense," Christopher smiled apologetically as he stood at the queens side.

Elsebeth looked up at the man who had just come into the throne room ; she took a step away from him instinctively , her eyes fixed on the glint of his sword. Why on earth had she come here? This was ridiculous, since she'd arrived on dry land she'd struggled to speak, struggled to walk and now it looks like she's going to die. Brilliant.

The man said some words that she didn't understand and she shook her head slowly, holding her hands up a little way, trying to show that she couldn't understand. He smiled and Elsebeth smiled nervously back, starting to think that maybe it wouldn't be terrible if she did stay, at any rate she wouldn't be able to run away very fast and they would get her. So she might as well try and talk to him.

Christpher blinked and paused, tilting his head as he noticed the girl first looked scared... and then didn't seem to understand him. Oh great. This would make things so much more complicated. He tried again. "You... do not understand what I am saying, my lady... do you?" he asked.

Elsebeth took another step backwards, shaking her head and still confused. Why couldn't she just speak the language? That would be helpful, but she guessed not. She smiled slightly and tried to work out what he was saying from his body language. This didn't work. Assuming the worst she took another step backwards towards the door.

Christopher sighed and let go of the hilt of his sword, hoping that might calm her. He held up his hands to show he wasn't holding anything. "Calm down," he said in a very gentle, soft voice, giving her the slightest of smiles, "I am not here to hurt you... okay?"

Elsebeth nodded slightly, so he wasn't trying to hurt her. That was good, still didn't help or explain to her anything about what was happening or how to get out. She didn't move but really wanted to run away.

A little while later, Floralia found herself in one of the passageways of the castle, near the room where her parents once resided in at night. She missed them more than anything in the world in that moment, even her mother who she hadn't ever known. Her childish instincts brought her down this hall and allowed her to continue crying until she no longer had tears to cry out. She allowed herself to fall gracefully to the ground against the wall, thinking about everything that's happened. What is the time now? Should I wait until later to deal with this? Can I even deal with this? She wondered as her head nodded forwards and drifted her into a deep slumber.

The little demon boy hurried as he raced through the corridors of the castle, his bright red eyes wide and his somewhat longer, black hair fluttering slightly behind him as it started changing color to white. It always did that after he'd used his powers. Soft giggles were rolling from his lips, and though he knew he would have to hurry or otherwise he would be caught, the demon boy had to work very hard to keep himself from bursting out laughing. The scent of fire and smoke followed him as he ran... He blinked and shrieked as he suddenly tripped over something... no... someone. Oops...

Christopher sighed at the reaction of the girl, wishing there was some way they could communicate... but to be honest, Christopher could think of nothing. It was just too late at night for him to deal with things like this. "Please, just calm down..." he said softly, placing a hand to his forehead. He was having quite a headache from all the previous commotion of the day, and now this. All he truly wanted at the time, was to take a long nice bath and go to sleep... but he was not allowed to do either, as the lord commander of the queens guard, until these matters were solved. Suddenly he frowned, though. Was that... the smell of fire coming from somewhere?

Elsebeth felt bad at the guards obvious annoyance and was going to try to apologise but she smelt smoke, and panicked slightly. She'd never actually seen fire before but she knew that it wasn't good. Without thinking she blurted out " fire?" In her own language, she'd been near one when she first came out and had seen the smoke and smelt it without actually seeing the flames, people had been yelling a word then she tried to say it tripping over the pronunciation. " Fire?"

Floralia bolted awake after being jolted by something falling over her. She looked around, noticing a thick smell of smoke in the air. "Umm..." She murmured as she scampered to her feet to look at the being who had been the one to wake her. "W-who are you?" She asked him softly, her eyes widening as she pressed herself against the wall, cupping her hands together.

Re: Adacia

Alrigt, I'll reserve you. ^_^

Re: Adacia

Hello! I'd like to reserve a spot as a mage that uses fire and ice spells (higher-mid level fire and weaker ice since... it's main element is water)

Re: Adacia

That would work very well. ^_^

Would it be OK if I made a Lady-In-Waiting for Floralia?
