Welcome to The City. It's a city where the police officers work with superheroes and attempt to control the villains. But in this city, the civilians aren't perfectly happy with that. They don't like the idea of these "goddamn mutants" running around and being able to do whatever the hell they want. Sure, they'll cry out for them when they're in trouble, but when they're safe, their opinions change.

So when someone offers to get rid of them for once and for all, most people don't dare ask questions. As the heroes do, they decide to engage in civil negotiations with this man. Maybe some sort of arrangement can be come to. But someone in the "villainous" team gets inside information. It turns out that the other side doesn't intend on engaging in civil negotiation with the heroes- they intend on kidnapping them.

At first, the villains don't do anything, expecting the heroes to break themselves out of it. But then, that doesn't happen. Instead, they actually do get captured. A few escape. Some get recaptured.

One, however, does escape and goes into hiding. She hears whispers of villains, villains that are smart enough to stay out of the public eye. Smart enough not to get caught. She does some research and finds the name of one, one who has been known to offer themselves out as a mercenary, a master thief for hire. She decides to ask them for help... But can a hero and a villain ever really co-operate?

At first, Max didn't look up at Willow. She didn't want her to see the sadness beginning to settle over her shoulders once more. Honestly, she should've known better. Even with alcohol in her system, she couldn't escape her grief. A light sob shook her shoulders, but she gulped the rest back, took a deep breath, and took Willow's hand accepting her help up. She smiled softly at Willow, attempting to return to her chipper self. The smirk on the woman's face helped a little. "Thanks," She said quietly, "But it wasn't the alcohol. I just..." She paused and rubbed the back of her head, her fingers catching in the dark strands of her hair. "I thought about Dinah." She walked over to the counter and hopped up on it using the space by the sink as a stool. "You know... I actually swore off drinking?"

"The last time I had gotten super shit faced, Dinah had taken me out. To this day, I don't even remember the reason, but I know it was to cheer me up. Maybe it's back when I figured out I wouldn't have the funds to go to medical school so I settled for lesser education, but anyway," She waved her hand as if swatting away a fly, "She had taken me to the gay bar downtown: Fragrance, because I-well... I swing both ways. Anyway, she knew guys tend to intimidate me sometimes--sometimes--so she figured girls would help. And at first it was a couple light drinks, but she paid the bartender to absolutely knock me on my ass." She laughed a little to herself at the memory. "And I was sooo far gone after that and I was sick as hell the next day. Swore off drinking. Well... until now apparently. But what I was thinking about was how... after that incident, it was really hard for her to get me to dance because I don't... really dance. But here I am, twirling in your kitchen and I thought "Just wait until I tell Dinah" and it hit me that-- that I can't. And the realization I guess knocked me on my ass." She finally looked at Willow, worried she looked as pathetic as she felt. "Graceful, huh?"

She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes as she looked at Willow. The woman was beautiful. In both the traditional sense and in her own ways. She may be a villain, and she may hate heroes, but she was... well good. She cared about other people. Hell, she cared about Max and she was practically a stranger. If she didn't, why was she in her apartment? She tilted her head back, attempting to avoid letting the tears fall and forced a smile. "Ugh, god. I must look so pathetic to you." Well... while she may be feeling her grief again, there was still no filter between her brain and her mouth. Great.

Willow returned to the cooking as Max spoke, but kept watching her. She smiled a little at the story. She'd had friends do that when she was down, and similarly, she'd dragged her friends out when they were feeling sorry for themselves. She raised an eyebrow as Max mentioned that she swung both ways. She did too- a slight preference to women, but she had never been that picky.

She looked away when she started to see Max's eyes filling up. "No. You don't look pathetic. You're grieving. And that shit hurts," she said, reaching for her own drink and taking a mouthful out of it. And then she sighed, grabbing the defrosted chicken and starting to cut it.

"I lost my parents when I was eighteen. They were heroes. And they were everything heroes should be. There isn't many like them left around anymore. So they were out on a call. I... can't remember what it was. Somebody told me but I went into shock after the nurses told me... well, after they told me. But there was a good few heroes there. And something went wrong when my parents were in there. And... the others thought they had to make a choice. Who lives and who dies. If they'd just taken one goddamn minute to analyse the situation, they would have seen that they could have saved everyone. But those-" She forced herself to stop, take a breath, and calm down. "They didn't. They went off of their 'instincts'. They didn't even consider the situation for a moment, and my parents died. I... just shut down. I sat in my room, analysing and thinking and looking at the situation in as many ways as possible, and they should have saved them. It was in their best interests. But they didn't. And I went, and I told them this. I advised them to reconsider their strategies, offered to help. They all but laughed in my face. I asked for help, for support. Emotions had messed with my powers before. They refused. I had nothing. When I had myself locked in my room, overanalysing, overthinking, wrecking my head, I had nobody. Nobody came and let me cry or scream and shout. Nobody handed me a drink and told me it was going to be okay. And... I'm still a complete mess. I'm so goddamn angry about it." She looked up at Max. "Don't do that to yourself. If you need to cry, cry. If you need to break things, I'll divert your attention to the things I'm not attached to. But don't let it fester."

She downed the rest of her drink and made herself another while the chicken cooked in the pan. After a couple of minutes in silence, she smirked to herself. "You know, it's very likely you could have run into me at some point in Fragrance. I've dragged friends there on multiple occasions."

Max opened her mouth to argue that she was pathetic, but then Willow started to tell a story. As she listened, she swirled the rest of her drink and then finished it. She immediately wanted another, but decided it was probably best to wait a bit before consuming more. Probably best to eat first if Max was being honest with herself. While she wanted to drown her sorrows, she didn't want to lose complete control of herself. Willow's story broke her heart and sent waves of guilt through her. And sympathy. Not pity. Sympathy.

She didn't get to know her parents. She had spent her childhood in foster home after foster home. She never had anyone to ask about her parents. Who they were or what they did. Even when she asked she got different or vague answers. She couldn't imagine having them and losing them in an accident. Especially one that could've been prevented. Heroes weren't perfect. She had known her fair share of heroes who only did good things because they got good things from it. They're as good as villains really. But her parent's? They... sounded like Max. Not that Willow would see things that way. If...when she told Willow who she was... would she really hate her? Max hadn't lost family that she had spent time with and cared for. But she had lost friends. She had lost Dinah. And that pain... was already unbearable.

She moved silently off of her spot on the counter and made her way over to Willow who had just finished making another drink. And she did something she didn't think anyone had really done for her since her parent's died. She wrapped her up in her arms and hugged her tightly. She allowed herself to cry a little, but the hug was mainly for Willow. Willow was never allowed to work through her feelings with someone. Who let it fester into an infection of absolute loathing for the group of people responsible. Max squeezed a little in the hug. Not enough to hurt, but enough to convey just how absolutely sorry she was for Willow's pain. It wasn't something she had personally caused, but something she felt responsible for. As a hero. Not that she really was one anymore.

"I'm sorry for your loss, Willow," She whispered into her shoulder. "And for your pain. I know I didn't cause it... and I can't even imagine how it feels to lose your parents... but I still..." She wanted to explain. She wanted to tell Willow the truth. That she wasn't apologizing for herself but all heroes as well. For the heroes who probably hadn't apologized to the mourning little girl, but instead, acted as if it was business as usual. "I never knew my parents so mourning... mourning them was never something I needed to do, but if it's anything like this... If it hurt as much if not more than this... Than I'm sorry you ever had to go through that."

"People aren't perfect. No matter how much heroes try to be they're not, but they shouldn't have laughed at you. They should've listened and I'm sorry they didn't. Heroes should be better than that." Her tone darkened, but then she continued, her tone lighter, "I'm... here for you, okay? If you hadn't... If you hadn't been here for me from the start of this, I would probably be passed out somewhere in a ditch after getting so drunk I couldn't even remember my name." She released her and stepped back about two feet to give Willow some room. She didn't think the woman was one who liked to be touched. "So thank you," She smiled softly, a little sadly too, and then went back to work on the noodles and the sauce which were almost done.

Willow wasn't usually a hugging person. But when Max hugged her, she found herself oddly close to tears, and found herself almost a little disappointed when Max stepped away. But her words had seemed to have come from the heart. She meant it. And Max didn't seem to harbour the same amount of spite and anger that Willow did, and she was glad to see that. Sometimes Willow worried if she was getting too angry. But then there was times when it was all that was powering her.

"Let's just pass out on the couch instead," she said in response to Max's comment about being passed out in a ditch somewhere, and raised her glass as she continued to stir the chicken around the pan. "I would offer to bring you out to get so drunk we don't have to think or be angry or sad, but I don't think it's totally safe to be doing that right now. So you're stuck with me for the evening. But we have alcohol and food, so at the end of the day, what more do we really need?" She remarked with a grin as she pressed on a piece of chicken with the spatula to see if it was cooked. Happy enough that it was, she emptied it into the sauce and left the pan in the sink.

"So. What do you want to do for the evening? Besides get ridiculously drunk, I mean."

Max found herself smirking as Willow suggested they pass out on the couch instead. She carefully pulled a noodle out of the pot with the spoon she was stirring with and tossed it at the nearest vertical surface, which turned out to be the fridge, to see if the pasta was finished cooking. The noodle stuck and Max grinned. Pasta was done. By the looks of the chicken it looked like dinner was just around the corner. She made her way over to the sink to drain the noodles before going back to the stove and putting the pot down long enough to dump the sauce into it. She accidentally poured too quickly and ended up splattering a bit of it on her shirt, face, and a little bit even on her skirt. She cursed colorfully and wiped at her shirt and skirt, but didn't realize there was any on her face.

Without much preamble, she turned and grinned at Willow. "Dinner time." She looked around the kitchen realizing she wasn't sure where the plates were and requested, "Think you could grab plates? And do you want to eat at the table..." she gestured towards the table in the room with a nod of her head. "Or the couch?" She stirred the contents together real quick to make sure everything was properly mixed.

"As for dinner entertainment, if we're planning on getting really shit faced, we could always play a game. It's called Truth or Drink. Kind of like truth or dare only... obviously you drink." She shrugged. "But are you really wanting that? Weren't you worried about abilities getting out of control? I mean I established it won't be a problem for me, but what about you?" Then she explained why she even wanted to play in the first place. "I figured it would be a good way for us to know each other a little better. I mean we are working together on this and you're letting me stay in your apartment.. you trusted me with your real name and your friend. And yet we still know very little about each other. What do you think?"

At Max's request, Willow produced two plates and retrieved the garlic bread from the oven, placing some on the edge of each plate. "You better retrieve that pasta from my fridge, young lady," she teased. "I will not have you throwing food around my kitchen." She stopped as she realised that Max had some sauce on her face. "You have a bit of sauce on your cheek." She said with a grin as she took a plate and brought it over to the couch.

"I know my limits. I have to get pretty freaking drunk before I lose control, and I don't plan on drinking quite that much. And yeah, that sounds good. Besides, you will still have no evidence that I am Spectre, so it's not like you can bring the police to my door," she added with a laugh and a wink. The alcohol was sitting comfortably in her own system. Just enough that she was starting to loosen up a little, but she was still in perfect control. She had plenty of time before she got so drunk she was at risk of losing control, which tended to be when she was close to blacking out anyway.

She honestly couldn't remember the last time she'd done this. Just made dinner and had drinks with somebody, and played dumb drinking games. Sure, she'd had friends around and they'd done similar things, but it was kinda different when it was a bunch of your work friends or your villain friends. This was nice. For a moment, it made her wish that she could just have a normal life for once. That this could be a frequent part of her life.

Max grinned broadly as she plucked the noodle from the side of the fridge. A part of her wanted to purr something along the lines of oh you won't will you? in response to her food throwing, but she knew that while Willow was allowing Max to stay there, eat there, and drink up her liquor, she was a guest. And she should behave as such. So instead she tossed the noodle into the trash, grabbed the pot of pasta and a dish towel and brought it over to the couch. She set the dish towel down first--as well as she could with one hand--and then placed the pot on top so that way it wouldn't heat the table and cause any damage.

Then she realized that Willow had carried her own plate over and went back to the kitchen to get her own. A nice warm slice of garlic bread was on top. She smiled at it and brought both the plate with the bread and her drink as well as a large serving spoon. She sat next to Willow on the couch and spooned a couple spoonfuls of pasta onto her place. Then, without much preamble, she dug in. She nearly moaned with pleasure at their combined dinner efforts. "Man we make a mean meal together." Then she realized she still had pasta sauce on her face and rubbed at her cheeks with the back of her hand, but she kept missing it. She figured her face was going to get messy anyway, so she decided to give it up. If it bothered Willow that much, she'd have to get it then.

She took a sip of her drink to wash down the pasta and said, "I guess the 'drink' part of the game will have to be from our own drinks, because something tells me, shots aren't going to be a thing tonight." She smirked, raising an eyebrow at Willow. She felt a little guilty for drinking the woman's alcohol. Some of this stuff probably wasn't cheap. She looked down at her glass. "Actually," She said, a little sadly, "We don't have to play if you don't want to. Honestly I shouldn't be drinking all your liquor. This shit gets expensive." She took another forkful of pasta and stuffed into her mouth without saying another word. She was trying to fight off the rising guilt. Man, she was too good of a person sometimes.

When she finished she did say, "If you do want to play, you should ask a question first. It is your apartment after all."

Willow grinned as she started eating. The food was really good, and maybe that was just because she was hungry. Max kept missing the spot of sauce, and Willow just rolled her eyes with a smirk as she took a sip of her drink. And then Max started talking about the game they were planning on playing. She rolled her eyes again as Max said they didn't have to drink.

"Oh, please. I don't just want to sit here in silence on my laptop, we may as well have a few drinks while we're here. We don't have to do shots. And I'll just use the cheap alcohol, we'll be fine." She added with a wink as she cleaned over to get the spot of sauce off of Max's face. "We deserve a bit of fun, right?" She said, holding her a position for a few seconds with a smirk. Maybe it was the alcohol, but Willow really couldn't shake the feeling that if they'd met under any other circumstances, Willow would have been flirting a lot more.

"Okay. What's your ability? You seem pretty convinced it won't go out of control. I'm curious to know what it is," she asked, leaning back in her seat and continued eating. She needed to remain chill and composed. In reality, she was a little nervous about what could come out in this, especially as she got drunker and drunker. She was honest, and ideally, she wouldn't get drunk at all. But she had no idea what kind of questions Max was going to ask.

Max smirked as she watched Willow roll her eyes at her comments. When Willow reached over to wipe the sauce from her cheek, Max could swear her heart stopped for a second. When it continued, it beat forcefully in her chest. Her touch was light as it lingered for a moment and their eyes met. Max's eyes dipped down to Willow's lips for a split second and she looked away, her cheeks heating. Willow went back to her pasta and Max agreed quietly, "Yeah. Some fun..." Her cheek tingled from the touch. She tired her best to ignore it.

Max cleared her throat and brought another forkful of pasta up to her mouth just as Willow asked her question. If Max was being honest, that was the question she expected to get the most. In fact, she was almost surprised Willow hadn't already asked. But, Max finished her bite and said, "Supersonic Scream." She said it matter-of-factly as if it was the most normal thing in the world. "Which is why I said I don't lose control of it. But I can lose it. If I don't have a voice, I don't have a scream." She ate another bite of pasta, and this time, added a bite of garlic bread with it. "And I don't think your ability has anything to do with food but this bread..." She pointed at Willow with her bread. "Is magic."

She sat back against the couch, facing Willow and said, "I think that's a good question for you, too."

[[Ugh sorry it's so short.]]

Supersonic Scream made sense, and explained why she couldn't lose control, but could lose the ability itself. It was an interesting one, something she'd never actually encountered. She'd never even ran into anything like it. It was an interesting concept, one she'd love to study if she ever got the chance. The physical waves, the properties of the waves themselves... it could be really interesting.

She laughed as Max complimented her garlic bread, shrugging. "Honestly, it's simple enough to make. I've been told the garlic is too strong, but I just tell those people tat they're actually just too weak," She said with a laugh. "And my ability is electrokinesis. The control, manipulation, and generation of electricity." She said. To demonstrate, she raised one hand and let arcs jump between her fingers. "I'm basically a human taser and power bank in one. It has its uses," she remarked with a shrug and a laugh.

She took a mouthful of pasta as she thought of her next question, trying to come up with something a little more... fun than that. Then she got an idea that totally sober her mightn't have said, but that the alcohol in her system encouraged her. "How much... luck have you had when it comes to Fragrance? And other gay bars," She asked, sitting back with a smirk as she sipped at her drink.

Max was growing attached to the sound of Willow's laughter. It was probably the purest sound she had ever heard from the woman. There was no sarcasm in it. No hatred. Just... amusement. Happiness even. Every time she heard it, a soft smile came to her face and she tried to contemplate ways to make her laugh some more. Apparently, the secret was saying dumb things. If that's all it took, she could accomplish her goal.

She sat up a little straighter as Willow demonstrated her power for Max. She had never really known a pure elementalist. Which sounds magic-y, but she was always told that those who could control the elements in their purest forms (a.k.a. Water, fire, earth, and air as well as their strongest subcategories of ice and energy) were known as elementalists. As far as Max knew, they were powerful abilities to have and way more impressive than the ability to scream at a sonic level. She could technically use it while she sang, too, but it took a lot of focus.

Max watched in awe as the sparks danced around Willow's fingers for a moment. "That's amazing," she said quietly. Then she looked up and made eye contact with the woman. That's when Willow decided to ask her next question. A question that had Max stammering--actually stammering--in surprise as she made her best attempt to answer. When that didn't work, she cleared her throat and laughed uncomfortably as she scratched at the back of her head. "I think it depends on what you mean by luck." She took a small sip of her drink. It wasn't that she was picking "drink" for their truth or drink... it was that she needed a bit more of the ol' liquid courage. It wasn't that Max was ashamed or even hiding her sexuality. It was just something that didn't come up very often in conversation.

"If by "luck" you mean getting a girl's number which turns into a lasting relationship? Honestly, not much. If you mean "luck" as in making out with a bunch of girls and possible one night stands. A few. Pretty much always when I've had too much to drink." Max's face was a deep red now and not from the alcohol in her system. "I'm very..." She cleared her throat again, "Promiscuous? When I've had too much to drink." She laid her head back against the couch and looked up at the ceiling. "Honestly, it's not that way with only girls. I just feel safer. Less likely to be...hurt. Women don't often do another woman dirty, you know?"

She looked at her glass a moment, and watched Willow out of the corner of her eye. Then she set the glass down on the table. She'll break from that for now. She took another forkful of pasta and shoved into her mouth, letting the carbs soak up some of the alcohol in her system. The thought a long moment. Honestly, she thought about asking Willow the same question, her curiosity getting the better of her. Instead, she decided to change it up a bit, "How many people have you been with?"
