A magus
Affable and good natured, Vincent nevertheless has a tendency towards arrogance and many who meet him, even those he considers his close friends, would venture as far as to call him smug.
The root of Vincentās arrogance lays in his intelligence. He is extremely knowledgeable and quick witted, with a wide breadth of knowledge in numerous fields. He sees it as his duty to educate others, not out of spite or feelings of self importance, but rather because he genuinely believes that he is helping.
Vincentās magical knowledge is unparalleled and he is considered a genius in the field. However, due to his disagreeable personality and general dislike of authority, Vincent has been ejected from numerous academies throughout the world. While he has vast theoretical understanding, his working knowledge of magic is about the same as any other mage, he just happens to generalise in a number of schools, rather than specialising in one as most mages are wont to do.
Endlessly curious and with a deeply analytical mind, Vincent prefers to think things through rather than plunge in headfirst. Though it is this curiosity that keeps him from settling down into what he sees as the mundane life of an academic or scholar. The kind of man who has a plan for every eventuality. A man of action at heart, Vincent refuses to stay put and it was this drive to make a his mark on the world that led him to begin adventuring. He has made many friends, and many enemies in the process.
An accomplished mage, Vincent has studied his entire life in pursuit of mastery of the arts of magic. While he lacks the raw power of many of his contemporaries he makes up for it in sheer diversity and breadth of knowledge. He has studied both Western and Eastern forms of magic, though he has a preference for the Western style. He specialises in summoning and enchantment spells primarily, though he has hand picked a few binding and blasting techniques in an attempt to cover all bases.
Deliverance:
A short range line of site technique which allows the caster to transport themselves and chosen objects within a small radius of them to another spot that is within their sight. Useful for quick getaways.
Summon creature:
The ability to summon a variety of spirits and other creatures from remote domains and dimensions. Vincent typically uses this technique for the purposes of summoning a small flying ādaemonā known as a Falgryn to act as reconnaissance or aid him in other ways. In combat Vincent relies upon his summoned beasts to attack for him, summoning them for split seconds to launch a single attack on his foes before dispelling the summoning. Vincent can also use a catalyst to enage the summon, for instance using the sword of a long dead warrior will enable him to pull the wielderās soul into the mortal plane to fight on his behalf for as long as Vincent can sustain his form. Larger and more complex creatures are more taxing on his ability and thus can only be summoned for short periods of time.
Enthrallment:
A telepathic spell in which Vincent can overpower another beingās mind in a battle of wills, forcing them to comply to his commands to the best of their ability. Creatures of great willpower or mental strength can resist this technique, while non sentient beings and those of weaker wills can be easily overpowered. The subject retains their own mind, but their body is powerless to resist his commands for the duration of the spell, which depending on the resistance offered can vary from mere seconds to entire days.
Phantasmal sword:
Vincent can summon a number of weapons formed from spectral energies which he uses by launching them at opponents from afar. He maintains a telepathic command of the weapons and under normal circumstances can sustain up to 7 at a time. The weapons can range from swords, arrows, spears etc.
Barrier:
A line of sight technique. Vincent uses this technique to project a single planar barrier that can deflect attacks from one direction. The more powerful the attack blocked, the more effort Vincent must put into sustaining the barrier. He can only project the barrier in places he can see, but can project it at any range within his field of vision. The barrier itself can be used for a number of purposes, affectively allowing him to walk on air over successive barriers like āstepsā.
Chains of binding/transfix:
Using this technique Vincent can call upon spectral chains to bind a target in place. The chains will ensnare the target, wrapping around them and anchoring them to any surface of Vincentās choosing. A second variation, transfixment, allows Vincent to pierce the target with spectral rods that pin the target to the surface of his choosing. The rods themselves, though they may impale the target do no damage, nor do they cause pain, only serving to paralyse the target momentarily. A target of sufficient physical strength can still break free of these bindings, depending on the effort Vincent is expending in holding them.
Flame:
One of Vincentās simple blasting spells, Flame does exactly as one would expect, shooting forth a gout of fire at the target of Vincentās choosing. Given the nature of fire this spell can be hard to target and is best used for crowd control. The flames, once manifest will continue to burn independently, making it dangerous to use thoughtlessly.
Hadou Yari (Wave motion spear):
The most potent blasting technique available to Vincent. Calling forth the forces of nature itself, Vincent is able to channel a beam of pure destructive energy from his hand. The spell is extremely destructive and can demolish entire buildings. However it is also unpredictable and dangerous for the wielder. The technique requires extreme care from the caster as it requires them to open a dimensional rift. The resulting displacement of energy is channelled into the beam, effectively erasing everything in its path from the plane. A small miscalculation can result in the caster effectively being pulled into the rift, or overwhelmed by energy faster than they can release it, causing a full body explosion.
Kasā wrath:
Taking itās name from the god Kas of Suitanian myth, Kasā wrath enables the wielder to channel the power of lightning from the tips of their fingers, or to call it from the sky. However, the lightning called is still governed by the laws of physics, and thus can be redirected against the casterās will by conductive materials.
Alter perception:
A minor telepathic spell that allows Vincent to distract or change the perceptions of others without their being aware of it by subtly planting suggestions within their mind. The target may believe they hear a sound, or see something they do not, whereas anyone else in the area is unaffected. A skilled caster such as Vincent can even alter the very thoughts in a personās head, though only so far before the target realises what is happening. The technique requires at least surface telepathy, whereby the caster can āhearā the conscious thoughts of another.
Born the fifth of nine sons to a Guinian father and Vectian mother, Vincent was largely ignored by his parents, who were busy dealing with the day to day matters of making ends meet and providing for their family. Vincent admired his father, a minor physician in a small Vectis village and took an interest in the field of medicine initially, though he disliked how many questions remained unanswered.
When the opportunity arose, Vincent moved to the city to pursue an apprenticeship with the renaissance artist and scientist Raphael lii Vanca. During his time under Vancaās tutelage he learned a great deal about the workings of the world, displaying a great mind for deduction that earnt him the attention of a high ranking magus within the Vadoni college of arcane studies and at the age of ten Vincentās lust for knowledge would lead him to pursue an education in the magical arts. He progressed quickly, learning the foundations of magic in half the time it would take an ordinary student.
While enrolled in the Vadoni college his arrogant nature, along with his disregard for tradition and hierarchy led Vincent to be expelled from the college. He was only fifteen at the time. Vincent became restless, and began travelling as a means of researching other forms of magic from far away lands and cultures including Nijhon and Kishar. His temperament and lack of humility led him to be ejected from each institution, though he gained a tremendous breadth of knowledge from the experiences. It was around this time that he met and became friends with the young free knight Caim Pendragon and the two have been inseparable ever since.
