Introduction
We should not exist.
We are to do our jobs and sink into the pits of society,
with no connections or relationships.
One mistake makes a web of casualties.
One friend makes up a chain of mistakes.
We know this.
And yet...
Even a killer gets lonely..."
ZERO exists far in the background of Carthan society. So far, in fact, that it doesn't exist at all, and its not supposed to. The police are meant to catch the criminals, the court system meant to punish. But there are some criminals that police cannot trace, that courts cannot condemn, that prisons cannot keep in. Half of these criminals are those who are killed by ZERO. The other half is ZERO. We are not super heros, or vigilantes. We are assassins. And we do not exist.
It is our most sacred rule, to keep no relations; to avoid friends, partners, romance. Not even with another member. We are tools for the kill, nothing else. But disobeying does not simply imply a loss of career; it is the end of your life. Obeying is a matter of life or death, for you, and whoever you'd made contact with. For a person who does not exist, death is a concept of lonliness and pointlessness. For a predator, to be killed is to be lowered to prey. So many dissobey, but keep quick means of covering their tracks. A few make a mess and suffer their degrading deaths and trips to an unmarked grave alone.
But...
There is a small number... The smallest number, who become the most dangerous prey, hiding and covering, protecting and fighting. They aim for members of ZERO as those members aim at their connections. They have lured us into war, and not one member of ZERO can be trusted to another. Orders must be obeyed, and deserters must be killed. The secret must be held, and witnesses must be discarded. A rogue assassin is a simple murderer, but the most qualified kind; as they know the best way to hide a mess, they know the best way to cause one.
And we certainly have a big mess on our hands now...
Each member of ZERO is forbidden from love, friends, and real life. Their existence is only to kill or be killed. A relationship begins a web of connections that can lead back to ZERO, and the connection must be severed, regardless of how many casualties are provided. Despite this, many members can't help but connect with someone, whether it is a colleague or a civilian. Those who get caught are the messy ones, those with lesser skills that cannot cover their tracks quite well enough. They accept their deaths, and allow their relationships to be offed by other ZERO members without warning. Those who cover their tracks could not imagine any disobedience besides to ZERO otherwise, and only hope that their mess will remain hidden. The smallest few, though never caught in their crimes, turn upon the organization and fight. Their skills keep the tides even, and they wish to bring ZERO to a war that will destroy them. Every assassin has his or her secrets to cover up, and murders among ZERO agents can occur if paths cross the wrong way. ZERO is already an instrument of tension and explosives. The wrong prod will destroy it, and every deserter knows this...
But this doesn't mean that the odds aren't still against them...
Setting~
The story is set in Carthan, the largest surviving country that still exists on planet earth. Civilization as known today has crumbled thousands of years ago, and the world has rebuilt itself slowly into something somewhat between steampunk and futuristic. Smog fills the city's sky, though clears well enough in the upper class sections. Though styles can be similar to that of steampunk, they are more modern, and people can be seen in tee-shirts and jeans as well. Technology is quite advanced, but can be very gear-based and rustic. The story can deter to many different locations; though will take place majorly within the same city aside from certain missions that may be outside of the borders.
Character details~
Each assassin has a particular specialty that defines their murders and is the theme of weapons, signatures, themes, etc.
Age range for characters is 18+
Sexual Orientation of roles is free game
Gender of roles is free game
Roles will be kept track of by their codenames, which has something to do with their theme and specialty (if you have questions regarding how to connect a codename to a specialty, feel free to ask and i can give you some helpful hints)
Assassins are raised from birth, stolen from families for the sole purpose of becoming killers. They live, train, and learn at a secretive academy for ZERO until they graduate at 18 into the field as assassins.
Civilian characters are necessary and involved as secret relationships of Assassins, protected relationships of Deserters, and people who just get involved a little too much.

Marckus turned back to the man and felt himself blush lightly, barely noticeable. "I-it's really not... I-I mean, anyone can sing, so it's not a very interesting thing..." He brought a hand up to run through his hair. He cursed his sudden nervousness and moved his hand to sheild his cheeks, mouth and jaw partly from view. The bartender chuckled at him before wandering off to tend to other customers.
"B-besides, I'm pretty sure if you had someone to sing with you, you could sing really well... You have a nice speaking voice, after all. A-and it's been said that people with good speakin' voices are also good singers." He murmured, gaining a bit of his confidence back. But he doubted that it would last long. This person had a mysterious effect on his usually boisterous and loud personality. It was like he needed to be quieter, more subdued, as to not harm the other.
"B-besides, I'm pretty sure if you had someone to sing with you, you could sing really well... You have a nice speaking voice, after all. A-and it's been said that people with good speakin' voices are also good singers."
Teller practically snorted, before he realized that would probably be one of the most unattractive things he would do all night, and ended up sort of half-choking and kind of coughing. Which wasn't any more appealing than the alternative, but it was too late now. He let out a small breath, almost a laugh at himself, and took a sip from his glass briefly, averting his eyes as if shyly. He placed the glass down and took his sweet little dainty time about the entire chain of actions before making a comment back. The idea of being in front of any sort of crowd and being the center of attention was absolutely terrible. He was a shadow, using the forces of bad luck and terror as a weapon. Sure, he loved to make a big scene, but more of the kind you saved for the end, and certainly not with him right in the middle of it. People focusing directly on him was kind of nerve wracking, actually, but he'd never admit it completely. Perhaps a light little 'no, i'm too shy!' but he'd always be the person to suppress whatever feeling there was that stood in his way. The only feeling he'd found to be too hard to get rid of was fear, of course, but he just focused on keeping a wide berth between him and his two big phobias. If another feeling decided to become a road block as well, he suspected he would do the same, though he wasn't entirely convinced that he wasn't already doing that with a few feelings other than fear, but he was avoiding those a lot better in his opinion.
"I don't know about that," he responded, finally, once again making the small motion of tucking those loose strands of hair behind his ears. "There's still a chance i'll be absolutely terrible! And i just don't know about being up in front of all those people..."
Teller shook his head, hunching his shoulders and acting bashful. "But hey, if they turn the place into a karaoke free-for-all, and i have enough alcohol in my system to cloud my better judgement, maybe I'll take you up on that offer." He flashed the other boy a quick smile, before turning back and sipping his drink again.
He placed his drink back down on the bar, vaguely aware that they hadn't even exchanged names yet. It's a little harder for the other person to say no when it gets slightly more personal, after all. Didn't need to get too personal of course, that made it harder to split afterwards, but names were definitively safe ground. Not that Teller always trusted himself to remember in the morning, but often he was gone before then. It was hard for a guy to be memorable enough to recall his name after the main goal of the evening was achieved. Mainly because that part was probably the most impersonal part of the evening. But now seemed as good a time as any to get the small tidbit of information.
"So," he started, putting his gaze back on the boy, keeping his sweet, slight-smile on his plump lips. "What's your name, anyway? I'm Ares." He was careful not to use Aaron as his name again, after all, he used Ares as his name for everything else, and it was always more difficult to recall that he'd used the name Aaron when it came down to it. At least this way, it was one less name to remember.
