0 · 242 views · located in Greenville, Illinois

a character in “Bad Things”, as played by Rawrr

Description

Dark blue eyes with fair skin, Karina's features were lovely enough to call her beautiful; Long black hair reached down to her mid-back, most usually braided into one thick braid or let down freely. The girl's choice of clothing was modest, usually a tee with tribal patterns and some faded jeans, flats on her tiny feet. Petite, one would call this girl, only standing to a less intimidating 5'1 and weighing about a hundred pounds. Her wrists were decorated in tribal bracelets, many exciting colors.

Personality

Karina always held compassion for animals, she seemed to enjoy their company more than people, she thinks of herself as a secret from the world, having never met a shifter. She's plays tricks on people who don't personally know her, having found enjoyment in being a shifter. She's bright, clever and usually happy, but with a very fiery temper than never stayed quiet. She always speaks of her mother, who in her younger years was an extraordinary adventurer, and took her daughter almost to every corner of the world. The most sensitive subject to Karina would be her younger brother who passed away a year ago, before her mother fell very sick. Karina still blames it on herself...

History

Karina was born in Europe to an American and a Frenchman. Her mother lived in Greenville, Illinois before she moved to France and found the love of her life. Karina lived in France only until she was 4 years old, the family of three began traveling across southern Europe, the Middle East and later Africa. At 7 years old, Karina for the first time found out of her little secret, Hyenas were her favorite animals, and she managed to mimic a baby hyena but to her surprise, she wasn't at all startled. Her mother was next to find out, but her reaction was less than perfect, and for a couple of months she left her daughter in closure within their rented house. The fear passed, there was understanding. When Karina was 12, her mother was pregnant with her baby brother, Luke. And because Luke had surprised everyone with his unexpected entrance, the family was forced to stay in Africa. They had become accustomed to the slow, tribal life in Africa, even if they lived in a house, everything around them screamed wilderness, Karina was in heaven. Years later, Karina's father left them, he had decided he missed the city and left Karina, Luke, and their mother to fend for themselves. Karina was nineteen when her little brother died...

It was early morning and Karina and Luke were playing outside, since her family loved the girl for who she was, she was comfortable to shift in front of them. Luke was 7 and Karina was 19, and they seemed like the best brother and sister one could find in the world. Stranded in this exotic continent and with no money to move anywhere else, they made do with their life in Africa. It was one of those mornings with the sun not yet above them, so it was still slightly chilly. Karina was fine within her Hyena pelt, but Luke was always rubbing his arms.

"Luke, come here and help mommy hang the clothes." Their mother shouted from behind the house; Luke always listened to his mother and dashed off, leaving Karina in front of the house. She slowly walked up the stairs, the usual hunched hyena posture and shifted, grabbing her robe that hung on the railing of the porch. Karina went inside to make breakfast, thinking Luke was preoccupied with the laundry. What she didn't know was that Luke had ran to ask his mother if he could play with Karina longer. When Luke ran back to the front of the house, the first thought that jumped to his head was that maybe Karina wandered off somewhere. Luke left the little dry forest their house was nestled in, entering a clearing.

"Kalina!" He shouted, having terrible trouble sounding the "r". He waved his arms in the air once he spotted a hyena a couple of hundred feet away, but once another hyena entered the view he began doubting that it was Karina. The two hyenas stood for a moment, with their heads raised and ears pointing upward, watching him. It wasn't long until they began running. Luke gasped, stood for a second more quite dumbfounded and turned to run, but he wouldn't make the house...

Karina lifted her head when she heard her named being called, but it wasn't the same tone Luke called her with, he sounded frightened and out of breath. His sister dropped the knife she was buttering her bread with and ran outside, what she saw ripped her heart out of her throat. "Luke!!! Oh my God! Luke! Mom!" Karina screamed running towards Luke who was on the ground the two hyenas had ripped the boy almost to shreds, blood was everywhere. But when Karina reached Luke, it seemed the hyenas ran, their laugh echoing in the forest. Their mother ran from behind the house, her skirts hiked up to her knees, she too screamed Luke's name, tears already streaming down her cheeks. Karina had dragged Luke's torso onto her lap, crying profusely and calling his name.

That memory haunted Karina for the past year as if it was yesterday, she still cried every night. Her mother grew depressed over the death of her youngest son, she stopped eating, taking care of herself and caught an illness that slowly paralyzed her whole body from toe, up. They moved back to Greenville, she didn't know where else. To Karina it was a new place, but to her mother, it was lovely memories. It was just three days ago they moved to Greenville, so the town was still a new playground for Karina.

So begins...
