Introduction

A new class of graduates have emerged from Shin'ō Academy. Within this group of graduates were six students who bonded and found friendship while attending the academy. Though they all entered various Squads, the connection they have with each other will surely help them in the trials to come. A force unlike anything they have ever seen or heard before is across the horizon. With what little strength they have mustered through their training, they will help shape the future of the Gotei 13 for centuries to come, though they would probably laugh awkwardly if you were to tell them this truth now.

The roleplay begins after the characters first week as members of the Gotei 13. Due to their recent induction, they are all currently unseated members of their Squads, but that will change as the roleplay progresses and they prove themselves to their Captain and Lieutenant. The reason I am having the roleplay begin this way is because I don't want everyone to pull out their big guns within the first few posts. I don't want a day to pass and suddenly half of a city is decimated because a fight escalated far too quickly. All characters will have their Zanpakutō, but will not currently have a Shikai or a Bankai. The roleplay will feature both Soul Society and Earth with a few additional locations tossed in for good measure.

Short introduction, but there is not really much to tell you that I'm sure you don't already know about the Bleach universe. Under the Character tab will be an NPC sheet with all Captains of the Gotei 13 listed, as well as their Lieutenants. A short personality description will be given of each NPC. Other Shinigami will be introduced and created by you and others involved in the roleplay, for which a OOC will be created separate from the main NPC tab. I will add the NPC tab once interest is shown as I don't want to go through all that trouble without anyone giving two shits, as I'm sure you can understand.

I ask that you focus on your main character for the beginning of the rp. Antagonists will be introduced and can be created, but this is secondary to evolving and developing your main character. Keep in mind you won't start out with all the awesome abilities you see on the show, so particular attention should be paid to molding them just how you want.

That's it really, if you have any questions feel free to ask. Like I said, I kept the intro relatively short as I'm sure I wouldn't be telling you anything you didn't already know about the series. Finally, this is not canon. I trust you to understand what that entails.

Character Sheet

Name: (Not required to be Japanese)
Age: (Keep in mind, that you are a recent graduate)
Personality:
Appearance: (Description or a photo are both fine. Since it is an anime/manga, I would prefer no real life people)
Zanpakutō: (They do not know the name of their Zanpakutō yet. Focus on appearance, pictures are fine)
Strengths: Choose any 2 (Swordsmanship, Shunpo, Kido, Hakuda, Tactician, Durability, Endurance, Strength [obviously meaning physical])
Theme Song: (I'm trying this one out for the first time. Sometimes a melody can sum up a character better than words can. This is entirely optional)

Your history is yours, and if you want to hide it that is your decision. Personally, I think its better when its flushed out through the rp.

As you can probably tell from the intro, I'm limiting it to five roleplayers. The reason for this is I don't want it to become too crowded and since this is a different take on the usual Bleach rp it shouldn't be too hard to maintain that number. I ask that you try to post at least twice a week, more if possible. I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity. If you feel your post is good with only two paragraphs, don't pad it out with rhetoric.

Most importantly, have fun. Just don't try to ruin anyone else'.

Seireitei

Seireitei by PaperCoversRockB*tch

A circular shiro with four main entrances, ten days walk apart, each guarded by a Gatekeeper. These gates are collectively called the Four Great Seireimon

Rukongai

Rukongai by PaperCoversRockB*tch

Rukongai is divided into 320 districts (80 in North Rukongai, 80 in West Rukongai, etc.), each numbered in descending order on how far they are from the center; this results in the higher-numbered (and farther) districts decaying into slums.

That night, long after day duties were over, and the six had served their time, all was quiet throughout Seireitei. Akira was supposed to keep watch on the South Wall that night, but due to the events earlier in the day, he found himself free to use his time how he desired. He heard that the others had a get together earlier that day, not long after he had broken off from the group. While he did miss the chance to relax with his friends, the amount of sleep he was able to catch up on was too great to regret. But because of that, he now found himself wandering the streets of Seireitei late at night with nothing to do. As long as he was within the walls, he was under the impression that Shinigami could basically roam where they wanted to so long as said places were not restricted. There was a slight chill in the air, rare for such a clear night in Soul Society, but Akira paid it little mind. He had ventured far from the Fifth Divisions area, finding himself close to the Eighth Divisions District. After the events of last night he found himself in quit a lethargic state, unwilling to even continue on his walk. He sat down in the alley and looked up at the sky above him, thinking mostly of that odd dream he had earlier.

Only a few minutes past before he sensed the reiatsu of others approaching him. One had a Lieutenant-level, causing Akira to hide his own reiatsu for fear that in was the injured Lieutenant from earlier. There were two of them, the Lieutenant-level and someone who was just slightly below, at least, that's what Akira felt. His suspicions were correct as the two came into view. One was Lieutenant Hiro Eitei, and the other was likely a seated officer within the Eighth Division. Akira recognized Lieutenant Eitei during his graduation ceremony at the Academy. Eitei was representing the Eighth Division at the time, something Shihiro said was a common occurrence. The Lieutenant seemed troubled, but Akira could not tell why. The two were speaking in near whispers, and Akira wasn't exactly known for his sense of hearing. Taking a hop onto the roof above him, Akira stuck close to the tiles to avoid the sight of the Lieutenant. Akira wasn't a curious person by any means, but if someone is willing to speak in such hush tones on a deserted street like this, whatever is being said must be of some importance, right?

"Shihiro Nihonto still has yet to return to the barracks. I know Captain Megami delegated the matter of his punishment to you, Lieutenant Eitei." The Shinigami spoke a little louder than Eitei did. Akira was able to catch his every word. Since the conversation was about Shihiro, Akira focused on what was being said even more.
"This is troubling. Continue searching Seireitei. We will extend the search to Rukongai if he doesn't turn up." Akira could barely hear what the Lieutenant was saying. With every word he edged himself closer to the roof ledge.
"Forgive me, Sir, but why are we wasting our time looking for Nihonto? He's probably getting drunk with friends in the city."
"He has been gone since the meeting this morning. When you add into what happened the night before..."
"What Happened?"
"Oh nothing. Keep me up to date on how the search goes." The nameless Shinigami politely bowed and disappeared. The Lieutenant kept walking down the road, leaving Akira by himself with only the sounds of the tiles underneath him shifting to keep him company. "Shihiro is missing..." Akira stood up and began to take a step forward before disappearing into the night.

Akira arrived at the Fourth Division Barracks. What little Shinigami were wandering the halls at this time paid him little mind. Outsiders often came to the Division for healing so it wasn't that odd to see someone stumbling in, even around this time. After asking three different Division Members where Hoshiko's room was, Akira finally found her Quarters. Sliding the door open, he was shocked to find his friends all still there, save for Shihiro. He paid little mind to what they were doing. Closing the door behind him, Akira said in a very serious tone, "Shihiro has been missing since morning." It was directed at the entire group as opposed to any singular person. Before any could respond he said, "I heard it from the Lieutenant of the Eighth's own mouth. He never reported in and they can't find him anywhere in Seireitei. I haven't seen him all day either." Visible beads of sweat were dripping down Akira's face. While he was never the serious-type, one could not argue with his demeanor as he delivered the news.

Ryuu

Watching Hoshiko and Setsu play bored her to the point she fell asleep during their game of Go. Unlike what most people thought of her Ryuu has played the game before she just never got into the swing of it to play it continuously like the others. There was only one person she could say she enjoyed playing it with but that was a thing of the past no matter how much Ryuu wished to see his childish smile again.

Leaning back against the wall as a support Ryuu surrounded herself with quite a few of Hoshiko’s cushins, folded her arms around her sword and closed her eyes as if ready to take a nap. Before she knew it her world had gone darker than black even when she thought she had opened her eyes. Then as if she were inside a box of some sort a deep crimson red began to trickle inside the walls, at first just a little at a time then it became a river of red. As the singular color washed away the black Ryuu was greeted by a white room or so she thought. It was difficult where everything ended and began.

In what seemed to be the center of the room was a child crouched close to the floor with their back turned towards her. Long raven black silky hair trailed the ground behind him then their surroundings changed again revealing few cushioned divans and curtains that might lead to another room pure white room. Like the walls of the room the furniture was also white and each had a shadow including Ryuu produced by an unseen light source.

All save for the child who crouched in the middle of the room, he produced no shadow. That’s strange everything produces a shadow of some sort her brow creased a bit into a scowl as she approached the child. Slowly at first until Ryuu’s curiosity got the better of her and she spoke up, “what are you doing in such a place child, all alone in this white room?” Ryuu got no response so she repeated her inquiry once more, still no answer.

Bending a bit at the knee Ryuu reached out to take the child’s shoulder to get his attention, when all of the sudden the child looked back, startling her into taking a step back. But before Ryuu even got a glimpse of the child’s face her step back took her into oblivion then falling backwards into a pit of red hot flames. They enveloped her completely, Ryuu thought she was going to burn to death until finally she resurfaced. It was almost like it was a sea of flames it imitated water in a gaseous state but it did not burn like normal fire would. It felt like she would drown in fire but Ryuu resurfaced, her previous clothing was burnt away to nothing but ashes revealing a bronze toned body of a woman in her early adolescent years.

Long red hair flowed behind her two single braids entwined with black ribbons among a flowing river of fire that moved with every movement Ryuu made. Ryuu took a step forwards looking down at her bare body unsure of what had happened, and then the air itself burned away almost like paper as it revealed a beautiful red and black kimono of the finest silk and with intricate flowers. Ryuu’s hair was done up the traditional hair style of a girl her age and all Ryuu wanted was to tear the kimono off her now restricted body and to undo the style of her hair and just cut it all off.

But she didn’t instead she continued walking forwards bringing her hands together, head and eyes lowered in submission as the scene changed again with the help of fiery petals. That revealed a long corridor with painted wall paper of both sides until her left opened up into a nice garden. People were running about fear in their eyes some had blood splattered on their clothes while other slipped in the blood of others.

In just a few moments fear coursed through her body but unlike the others Ryuu ran towards the trouble that they ran away from. Why am I running? What’s going who is spilling blood in such a disgusting manner? frowning Ryuu continued down the hall her beautiful hair had come undone with a few spots of blood on her kimono. She before she reached the source of the chaos a sound caught her attention. It was the sound of flesh being torn apart and blood gushing from a now life-less body. Ryuu began to shake with fear, turning towards the door the sound came from and with shaking hands slid the doors open. Ryuu was greeted by a horrifying sight of blood flowing down and between the oak floor boards a monstrous black body stood over a body, as it tear the man apart stuffing flesh down its maw. The light from the moon could light up only so much of the room but it was enough to see that the man was not the only victim as there were three other bodys that lay in a similar grotesque manner as the man would soon be in.

Ryuu covered her mouth with both hands to keep her scream back so as not to alert the monster that ate these poor souls. Tears streamed down her face making her knees weak Ryuu fell to the floor using the side of the door to help slow her descent to the ground. Then a slurping sound came from the monster in the room looking up Ryuu realized the monster had finished its meal and was beginning to look over its shoulder upon realizing that it was no longer in the dark. Glowing red eyes surrounded by a white face-no a white mask that struck terror in her heart. Ryuu looked straight into its eyes when she began to fall once more into a dark inferno.

Her kimono burned away along with her red hair to its previous length just the way she liked it. Her left eye was covered with a black eye patch once more; old scars appeared on her body that told the story of her life if you knew how to read it. She landed on her butt and hands in the same white room as before the child was gone now but Ryuu could a voice saying something. At first she was unable to understand what they were saying, picking out only two words “burn” and “heaven” then the room went silent as if they knew she heard what they had said.

Then something began to drip from the ceiling above it was a black and thick substance, creating a pool of black that seemed to move like a living entity. It was then that an arm shot out then another as the entity began to crawl out of the pool of black- the sound of a door sliding open then being closed caused Ryuu to leave behind the dream world and welcome the real.

"Shihiro has been missing since morning." Opening her right eye just a little Ryuu saw Akira standing before them what he had said was told in such a serious tone unlike the Akira they all knew. Before Ryuu could inquire as to how he came to such a conclusion she received an answer to her unsaid question. "I heard it from the Lieutenant of the Eighth's own mouth. He never reported in and they can't find him anywhere in Seireitei. I haven't seen him all day either."

Her mouth opened and closed unsure as to what to say but mainly to take it all in and pick her words carefully. “First off I’m going to assume you were eavesdropping on a conversation not meant to reach you ears. But considering who had said it then it must be true. But where could he have gone other than to where he had said he was going. It’s unlike Shihiro to not tell us what he plans to do you don’t think he went back to Fugai Forest for whatever reason popped into his mind at the time?” a hint of concern could be heard in her voice but Ryuu never left her position other than holding her sword closer.

For Hoshiko, the rest of the day passed in relative peace. Ryuu seemed inclined to catch up on her sleep, which of course she was welcome to do, reclined against Hoshi’s small army of cushions and pillows. She never had much use for all of them, anyway, so it was good to see that they were earning their keep, so to speak. The door out into the gardens stayed open, and she took a small break to check on a few of the plants at one point, her mind wandering aimlessly over the rather droll topics of aesthetics and flower arrangement.

She chose to take a meal in the Fourth Division’s mess, and of course invited Setsu and Jin along, loath to wake Ryuu from what was probably the first sleep she’d had at least since yesterday morning at whatever ungodly hour the Eleventh woke to start the day’s mayhem. Goodness knew she was up early enough—extra healing kido sessions came at the price of a couple more hours' sleeping before chores began.

The others didn’t seem inclined to leave, either, and this was something she welcomed. Hoshiko hadn’t had many friends in her life—there were barriers of station that prevented such relationships from forming organically, and the ones her parents had tried to cultivate for her had never really interested her that much. Compared to the majority of the Gotei 13, she might be quite delicate and fragile-looking, but sometimes amidst the people her parents wished her to emulate, she felt like a rhinoceros in a china shop, what with her preoccupation with things like kido and reiatsu theory and who-knew-what. Maybe she didn’t quite belong here, yet, but with these people, she felt like she might just manage it one day.

So she passed her time in idle conversation, composing a letter to her mother while she was at it. An unpleasant task, but one that needed doing once every week. She left out everything important, naturally, dribbling some kido-heated wax on the thick paper and stamping it with her seal, a variant of her family’s chrysanthemum design that included a water motif. Setting that to the side, she decided it could wait another day to be sent, refreshed the tea, and was just about to suggest the use of a bottle of expensive sake she had on her shelving unit when she sensed a new presence in the area. “…Akira?” she inquired mildly, just before the door to her quarters slid open without so much as a knock.

She was willing to overlook that, though, because he was sweating and clearly in some form of distress. She wondered if he’d come here for healing of some variety, but he did not appear to be injured, and it would have been better to go to the main building anyway. The explanation was immediate, and Ryuu, newly-awoken, added an astute observation to it. Hoshiko felt a flutter of concern in her stomach—what if he had gone back to investigate? Shihiro was a bold person, sometimes to the exclusion of sense, but…

“Surely he would have told us if he’d intended to do something like that,” she pointed out gently. He was their friend after all, and they’d already proven, intentionally or not, that they were not the kind to put rules over the need to help a friend. “Perhaps he simply ventured out into the Rukongai somewhere?” She had to admit that she didn’t know a lot about the various districts of the place, but there was no way they’d been able to search all of them since morning—one district alone could be huge.

Setsu was not going to loll around all day. Although she was given a day without obligations that she would have ducked anyway, she could not avoid those she owed herself. The events of the night before had rejuvenated the sense of urgency that used to keep her awake at night as a child – she needed to become stronger. She needed power, strength dimensions ahead of the forest Hollows, even beyond that of the captain who had saved her. They say rage is mankind’s best motivator, but sheer unadulterated envy had always served Setsu well enough.

After her game with Hoshi, Setsu took a meditative position in a corner of her friend’s room, sword resting in her lap. The accursed blade did not cooperate, apparently offended for being used as a glorified metal peg to pin down a Hollow. Setsu couldn’t reasonably blame it for that, but she did anyway. Scrap-metal chunk of recalcitrance, she cursed.

It had always struck her as odd that, among her friends, none had managed to achieve shikai in the six years spent at the academy. It would not be odd for Akira, and maybe Jin, to keep theirs a secret, but Setsu liked to think her friends would offer aid and insight rather than gloat behind her back. Great talent matures slowly, she told herself. Taiki bansei. The old proverb was probably the first thing she’d engrave on her skin if she ever felt like joining the tattoo faction alongside Ryuu and Jin, and if there was even a sliver of truth in the saying, she was with formidable friends indeed.

Setsu glanced at her red-haired friend, blissfully asleep and half-buried in a pile of expensive feather-filled cloth. Her tattoo ran from wrist to shoulder, its head peeking out just above those ostentatious mounds of chest-flesh of hers, heaving with a quickened breath. Setsu glared and felt like hating her friend a teensy bit.

Setsu stepped out of the room onto the porch – Ryuu might wake up at the targeted bloodlust. Her friend was a great deal more astute than people gave her credit for, and she deserved the sleep. Outside, Setsu walked around in the garden, appreciating the plant life solely for their merit of warding the scorching sun. Though, there was a single plant she took a liking to; a bale of straw, tied with rope around the heavy trunk of a great oak. A striking post. The handiwork of a less pacifist member of the Fourth, Setsu mused.

The tree was padded at eye level for punch height. Just to be contrary, Setsu used it for high kick practice for the remainder of the afternoon. Leaves fluttered down with each kick the trunk endured, and Setsu tried kicking those too. The exercise quickly became a game, and when dinnertime rolled around, the skin of her feet and legs was pleasantly aflame with honest exertion. Setsu’s pale skin gave peaches and plums a run for their money when it came to predisposition to bruising, but if these turned out particularly bad, perhaps Hoshi would be able to do something about them.

After dinner, as Setsu was about to challenge her friend in another game, Akira stormed into the room with a refreshing disregard for privacy and a rather less refreshing mien. Flustered anxiety was an odd look on the normally calm man.

Akira swiftly recounted what he'd overheard, but in Setsu’s eyes, it did little to explain or justify his evident distress. A lieutenant couldn’t find Shihiro, and therefore something must have happened to him? Since when were lieutenants some kind of infallible creature? The mere suggestion of it annoyed Setsu, considering how at least one lieutenant was widely rumored to have attained their station through nepotism. Before that, Seireitei was mind-bogglingly big if you stopped a moment to think about it. North to South, East to West, moving from one gate to the opposite side would take Setsu upward of two weeks at a walking pace. Plenty of space to get lost.

Or,” Setsu stated in reply to Hoshi and Ryuu, “Shihiro is still in Seireitei somewhere, and the lieutenant just missed him. Even I know places where lieutenant-class shinigami would be hard-pressed to track me.”

The sewers, for example, Setsu thought. She would never deign to go down into the sewers herself, but that should be equally true for the lieutenant of the Eighth. Shihiro was probably nowhere near the sewers though – the fact that the giant might not even fit aside, he had no more reason to be there than he had for the human world, or Fugai forest, or the Fourth Division’s female baths.

Though one of her close friends was allegedly missing, Setsu was not worried overmuch - Shihiro possessed a single, paramount virtue that, in fact, vindicated most of their very friendship. The bastard was darned difficult to kill.

Akira sighed heavily, realizing that the others were handling the news a lot better than he was, which was usually the case with such things. "You're right, Setsu. I'm probably just freaking out for no reason. It's just... the Lieutenant brought up what happened last night with a member of his own Division, but quickly silenced himself before going into detail. Its like, what happened is being hidden from even other Shinigami. It just made me paranoid, I guess." Akira put his back up against the door and closed his eyes, likely an attempt to clear his mind. He was silent for only a few seconds, opening his eyes and looking wide-eyed at the sight of Jin passed out in the corner. "What happened to-" He stopped as he noticed several bottles of sake empty around his friend. "Ah. You know what, I don't want to know." He chuckled to himself, looking back at the three in front of him who still had their wits about them. "I know this guy in the Eighth Division. His name is, Kasai Hayabusa. You might remember him from the Academy, but he is also in the Eighth. If he is out looking for Shihiro, we could ask him to give us information on what's going on. Though, if the Lieutenants reaction was anything to go by, I doubt Kasai has been told much. But, I think its worth trying."

After giving his friends a few minutes to think it over, they were on their way. Jin was left behind as Akira's attempts to wake him up were met with resistance. Akira knew they were probably just going along with it to appease him, but that was fine. Shihiro wasn't one to wander off without telling anyone, but Akira saw several times at the Academy that Shihiro's anger often caused him to forget himself. They were some of the last to not achieve Shikai as active members of the Gotei 13. Shihiro was the type to do everything he could to protect his friends, and if that met going out and seeking trouble to push himself to the point of achievement, Akira wouldn't put it past him to do so.He noticed the others were starting to get frustrated with their lack of progression toward Shikai. As long as they were stuck with nameless Zanpakuto, they were stuck on the low end of the Shinigami totem pole.

After leaving the Fourth Division Barracks, Akira led the group toward the Eighth Division Barracks. He was quite while they were moving, realizing that his inherent lack of evidence or logic might cause an issue should his suspicions be found to be invalid. Regardless, Akira felt a nagging that if something did indeed happen to Shihiro, it was his fault. Akira was the one who led them to Fugai and started this whole mess. If he had just ignored the Jigokuchō and went to the bar like normal, they would probably be relaxing tonight and planning their next meeting. "Guys... I'm-" Looking quickly to his right, he quickly changed direction as they were moving. "Kasai is only a short way this way. I'd never mistake his reiatsu." Despite his quick change, he kept his pace to where they could follow. Not that he was faster than the others, but he didn't know how rested they were. After moving a few hundred more feet, Akira stopped in his tracks, catching sight of a figure walking along a rooftop near the edge of the Seireitei-side of the wall. "Kasai?!" Akira jumped up to the roof and gave his childhood friend a quick nod in greeting. "Damn, you're a hard man to track down. A guy we went to the Academy with, Shihiro Nihonto, is missing. Before you ask how I know that, I just need to know if you've found him or not. Sorry for acting forward, but I'm worried about him." Akira was a little rude in how he addressed his long time friend. It had been awhile since they'd seen each other, but Akira knew if anyone was going to put up with his personality it was Kasai. Hell, he had put up with it for close to thirty years and still hadn't abandoned him, so that was a positive.

“Wow look at you being so naïve and rude, I never thought to see you like this when emergencies come such as this one; to think that you would be like this to your old pal. Shihiro is it; he and I both joined the Eighth Division. Now he goes missing after all that and for what to make everyone scared. To frighten us, for what reason would that be or is it-.” Kasai uttered in complete nonsense. He wondered himself after all they have been through, Shihiro is the one to go missing. He then looked directly at Akira with suspicion and asked him gently, “What did you do Akira, but it can’t be? Akira, Lieutenant Hiro mentioned nothing about the disappearance of Shihiro and to my guess he just wants us to stay calm.” Kasai sounded as sincere as he could.

“Akira what happened can you fill me in as to how you know that Shihiro is missing. Please I would like the truth. We after all are best buds right? You can explain this situation to me. I am deeply sorry for missing the time to celebrate. It should have been our time as will,” Kasai would continue on about the past. "We were kids imagining about missions and being accepted into divisions. This is a dream come true I appreciate you coming and finding me, but sorry no information here yet. Hey, I here that Lieutenant Hiro is supposed to be speaking with the captain about this situation. We can be kids again,” Kasai said with excitement. "Me and you eavesdropping on people again who ever would have thought that to happen again?" Kasai jolted in excitement, dancing around, and tears pouring down his eyes.

A member of the squad came running down the road. He noticed Kasai and said, "Where's the lieutenant?" The squad member said in excitement. "Beats me I don't know," said Kasai. "You guys listen, A citizen from Rukongai saw someone who looked like Shihiro entering Fugai Forest a few hours ago. She came to me with this information as I was coming out of the ba-," he stopped suddenly. "But yea a citizen spotted who seemed to be Shihiro."

Akira stared blankly as the Shinigami kept running down the road, realizing that the Academy may not necessarily test for intelligence. "Well, Kasai, I guess it was a good thing we found you when we did." Akira jumped down off the roof, looking at the three girls with a carefree expression. "Well, the Lieutenant will likely hear the news soon and they will probably have searched parties canvasing all of Fugai looking for Shihiro. So, the reasonable thing to do would be to return to our barracks and call it a night." Akira began to scratch the back of his head, and rolled his eyes at his own notion. "Which would be the reasonable thing... if I could actually get a wink of sleep knowing that Shihiro was lost out there. I mean, Shihiro's not an idiot, so why would he go there after what happened? We nearly died when there were six of us." Akira sighed and nodded at the group. "This is my fault guys... sorry. I know that's something weird to hear coming out of my mouth, but, sorry. I know it not the smart thing, but I;m going to go find Shihiro, or help if I can. I'm not asking you to help, but please? Please help me. If you don't, I'll haunt you after I die." Akira let out a small chuckle, letting the others mull it over for a minute. With a small nod, He and those who choose to come were off, preparing themselves for whatever fate awaited them. "The 13th Barracks aren't far from here. Let's stop by and grab Joel."

A half-hour later...

The group arrived at the tree line for Fugai, but it was quite a bit different from what they remembered. A thick fog covered the forest, making it impossible to see much farther than ten feet in front of oneself. It did have one similarity to last night, however. They could sense the reiryoku of the forest, but not that of a being, Shinigami or Hollow. However, there was a pressure in the air, making it feel as if someone had taken the air right out from the lungs. Akira could feel his chest tightening, something he wasn't used to. He had felt fear before, but this was different. It felt even more primal, more vicious. Akira turned around to the group, looking to Joel and Kasai who likely had the most questions. They were in and out of the 13th to get Joel. Knowing he was the type of person to jump at the mention of helping others, it took little to no convincing. Plus, it was one of their own. Akira had filled Kasai and Joel in on what had transpired last night and this morning while they made their way to Fugai, seeing no reason to hide it from them.

For moment, Akira thought about waiting for the Lieutenant and other members of the Eighth to show up. It would certainly help with this feeling in his chest if he knew a Lieutenant level Shinigami was with them. However, that feeling people talk about overcame him and likely the others. What if we get there, and he didn't make it? What if we had not waited, would he still be alive? While these are questions no one can answer, they eat away at someones mind before and after the event. Akira preferred at least trying, even if it was the stupider of the two options. "A-alright... we're here." Akira let out a weak chuckle, realizing he was way over his head this time. "Anyone who wants to turn back, this is the last chance. I have a feeling it will be hard to find our way out once we enter, so we might be in there till sunrise. Thoughts?" Akira could almost feel the forest fog shooting up his spine. But, it was a feeling he had to ignore.

Joel woke up early on the first morning as his official start to his duties as a member of the thirteenth division. He wanted to make sure he received full physical awareness before his initiation. He started with a set of pushups with both arms and then with individual ones for a warmup. Then he put on a weighted vest and proceeded to repeat. Afterwords he practiced his drawing speed and control of the specialized sheath he was given, drawing his blade and sheathing it with wrist weights attached to his person. Last with a set of wrist weights, a weighted vest, a weighted belt, and ankle weights, he went for a sprint around the area and returned to his quarters. Their were two things on his mind. One of course being the initiation, but the thing he was mainly excited for was the celebration meeting he was supposed to have with his friends. After his morning activities he walked to the headquarters of the thirteenth division.

Upon arriving he noticed one thing.

There are sure allot more female members than male members here. On top of that most of the members look young.

He questioned if he was in the right place. That is, until a small female walked up to him. "J-Joel Hiataka. A-Are you him?" The girl spoke nervously.
Joel bowed down as a sign of respect. "Yes I am m'lady. Joel Hiataka. Thirteenth division. Unseated." He gave his proper title to the woman. Looking up he recognized her as the person standing next to Captain Hanakonawa. "I am sorry for my lateness Lieutenant."
The girl stepped back as if she wasn't used to being talked to as high authority. "Yes. P-Pleased to meet you." She bowed in return. "I was sent by Captain Hanakonawa to be your escort into the building. P-Please, come this way."

Following her into the building there seemed to be a less serious mood than what he had expected. Being left on the center floor as Lieutenant Watanabe went to her position next to the Captain. Joel knelt down on his knees and bowed his head respectably. Their were snickers to be heard around him.

"Looks like we have a go getter in our ranks now." One shinigami said.
"Yeah. It's okay kid. You don't have to be so uptight here." Another one chuckled.

Captain Hanakonawa smiled and stood up. "Calm down everyone. You should all learn from his politeness. Please rise Joel."
"Yes mam." He said as he rose his head.
"I would like to formerly introduce you to the thirteenth division. We signify hope and treat our members with warmth and kindness. I hope you too can abide by our codes and feel like you are part of our family."
"I will try my best mam." He said once again bowing his head.

After the formalities were over he was shown around the barracks more thoroughly. He was also tasked with feeding the Koi in the pond around Ugendō Quarters. Truly this was the peaceful environment that he hoped it would be. Sadly, he would have to miss his friends gathering because of his own divisions party for him. It wasn't quite the party that his friends were having, but still, he preferred tea to alcohol any day, not being much of a drinker. He told himself that he would personally apologize to them for not showing up once he had free time the next day. To his surprise, "I am giving you the day off." Came his Captains words that very day.
"I'm sorry. I don't quite understand."
"I have just became aware that a group of new recruits went on a little excursion last night. Instead of going with them, you instead decided to stay here and honor us with your presence."
"The honor was all mine, Lady Hanakonawa."
"Still. It stands that you may not have time in the future to spend quality time with your loved ones. I want you to enjoy the time you have together."
"As you wish, Lady Hanakonawa."

With this string of good news he was more than excited to meet up with his friends. That is, until he heard the news of Shihiro. Of course with one of his friends missing he jumped at the chance to help. Even with Aki's last words of warning, he was not going to back down.
Placing a hand on his shoulder he said, "Well, when the sun sets upon our triumph we'll feel all the more better at the fact that we overcame this." He looked back at the rest of his friends and smiled. "Together."

Kasai burst out in laughter trying to lighten the mood. “Will I’m sure not backing down…so if you don’t mind let’s go and find Shihiro.” He said in tone of respect. “If we hurry and find Shihiro we shouldn’t take long to get out. Reason being that Shihiro should know the way out since he was brought in. So as long as we find Shihiro we shouldn’t have any worries.” Akira it’s your call, Kasai explained.

Ryuu

How did I now think of that? a bit bewildered that her thoughts had only been about the worst case scenario when all this time Shihiro could just be some place no one would think to find him. And like his friends knew the man was pretty hard to get rid of sometimes. Ryuu simply kept silent during this little exchange that brought to her attention of something she just now realized. Jin lay unconscious in a corner the corners of Ryuu’s lips twitched into an almost smile but never became the rarity.

The name of a fellow shinigami caught her attention Kasai Hayabusa, she didn’t quite like the man as he was always trying to flirt with her and the fact that he was from one of the four main noble houses made it worse. Ryuu didn’t bother thinking too much on the current subject of whether or not to go with Akira to see what information Kasai had. It’s not like she had anything better to do for that matter so why not make her night a little more exciting even if it was with someone she had very little interest in getting know better or understanding.

They walked around heading towards the Eighth Division Barracks in silence or at least Ryuu did she was lost in her thoughts in trying to figure out what her dream had meant if it had meaning at all. Looking ahead Ryuu noticed the way Akira was acting he seemed to be a bit nervous when he broke the silence.
"Guys... I'm-" Akira stopped midsentence; looking quickly to his right, the man quickly changed direction as they were moving. "Kasai is only a short way this way. I'd never mistake his reiatsu."

This concluded her previous thought and she could understand why he would be nervous if that was the correct word to describe her friend at the moment. Akira then stopped in his tracks; Ryuu being right behind him nearly crashed into him. Thankfully he was out of the way before they collided and the reason for him stopping irritated her to a degree that damn Kasai. Ryuu growled softly enough so only those who were right next to her would have heard it.

The man began speaking with excitement, at one point he even had suspicion in his voice when he first addressed Akira, the two continued chatting with one another, though in reality Kasai did most of the talking and her irritation rose in her chest but Ryuu did her best to hold her tongue. Akira then jumped down from the roof and turned to them with that carefree look of his and began to speak.

If you don't, I'll haunt you after I die." Akira let out a small chuckle.

Ryuu simply stared at him in bewilderment did he really just apologize what an idiot! she managed to hold back her remark about him haunting them if they didn’t help. "The 13th Barracks aren't far from here. Let's stop by and grab Joel." This made the red head falter in her step hopefully no one noticed this. Like Kasai Ryuu disliked Joel even more so than the big flirt and she now regretted her choice in joining Akira on his rescue mission.

They were in and out of the 13th once Joel had joined them. After about half an hour of walking they reached the edge of the Fugai Forest which was covered in a dense fog. Just like the other night Ryuu could feel the reiryoku of the forest but not that of any living being whether it be that of Shinigami or a Hollow. Ryuu felt her chest tighten in a way she was not accustomed too, it was what most people called fear but this was different it was more primal than normal fear what awaits us within this white forest before us. She help her sword closer to her body her hand on the hilt ready for when metal sang and clashed against whatever had become its opponent.

"Anyone who wants to turn back, this is the last chance. I have a feeling it will be hard to find our way out once we enter, so we might be in there till sunrise. Thoughts?"

Ryuu had nothing to say and even if she did she wasn’t about to voice her unease. Joel and Kasai voiced their while Joels was rather poetic in contrast with Kasai’s who started off in a sudden burst of laughter and left it up to Akira to give them the go ahead. why do I get the feeling it won’t be as easy as just finding him. What have we gotten ourselves into?
