Vicky sat in her office, tapping her pen relentlessly on her desk. A new case had just come in from a twenty-some year old girl in town that had her baffled and concerned. She was pretty sure, from all of the signs, that it was a vampire who had killed the girl's sister, but there was one issue there...

Henry was the only vampire around the area. He had to be. He had told her once that two vampires couldn't share hunting grounds.

But he wouldn't kill an innocent girl and leave her lying in the street. There was no way. She knew him better than that. And that's why she had called him, demanding he get to her office as soon as possible.

Now she was waiting for him, wondering how to ask him if he'd done it, and wondering if she should sharpen a stake to kill him if he did. Stupidity like that deserved some splinters to the heart...

She sighed heavily again, but sucked back in her breath and flinched as her door swung open and a tall, dark figure swept inside.

"Jesus, Henry!" She exclaimed, her hand moving to her chest. She shook her head at her friend, her heart skipping for a moment at the sight of his face, and leaned back in her chair. "You can't sneak up on people like that, we mortals are a little more fragile than you."

She glared at him from across her desk disapprovingly and did her very best to ignore the warm stirring in her stomach at the sight of him. He was undeniably beautiful, that was a fact, but he could also potentially be murdering innocent woman. She didn't want to be next on the list...

And even in that moment, as she tried to be strong and tell herself he could be dangerous, she hated herself for thinking that way. This was Henry...he would never hurt her.
