James stood infront of a mirror, his arms outstretched and maids measuring each part of his body. "Mother, must I really do this? After all, why does my generation have to fix your mistake?" He asked.
"Quit your whining and hold still, you make it hard on the maids to measure you correctly for your tuxedo you will be wearing for the ball tomorrow night." His mother replied.
"I understand that, but why must I choose a wife there? Can't we just be friends or something?" He asked holding still.
"No, if you want peace, you'll have to find one and trust me, when you go, you might change your mind. Now run off to bed, you'll have to be up early to make it there on time." She replied.
"Yes mother," James replied and jumped down from the small box he stood on his and ran down the hall and into his room, thoughts ran through his head as he started to drift off to sleep. Would he really find a wife there? What nation would she be from? Finally after about an hour, he fell asleep.

'Kai!'
Kai broke away from the soilder he was fighting, sweat dripping down his forehead and arms. What did his father want? He hardly ever spoke to Kai and now he was inturrupting his pratice. He turned to face his father who was standing arms folded at the gate of the keep.
'I see you conveniently forgot, as usual.'
Kai sheathed his sword.
'Forgot what?'
'Show more respect when you speak to me!' his father was angry, it was nothing new 'you are supposed to be attending a fitting for your clothing that you will wear to the ball tomorrow night.'
Ah. Kai ran a hand through his blonde hair. No wonder he had forgotten about the fitting. This whole ball for the peace of the nation was a joke, a joke he did not intend to be a part of. He turned his expressionless green eyes on his father and drew his sword again.
'I have drills to finish if i'm ever going to become the head of the Earth Kingdom.'
'But the ball!'
'Father, you know as well as I that it is a game. The nations cannot exist without war and just because I consent to marry a princess from another nation does not mean the war will end. The woman I marry will have to prove her worth, I want no pampered child tainting the stock of the Earth Kingdom. Also the Fire Kingdom will be there. They have killed too many of our people, I cannot forgive them.'
It was the longest speach he'd ever given. Kai shut his mouth then knowing that his blunt words would be easy for his father to understand. The old man shook his head.
'I know my son, and I would not force you to join a farce but your mother wishes it.'
Kai narrowed his eyes. That was a low blow. His mother was dying, the whole kingdom knew, and if it was her final wish that the kingdom should try to be at peace then Kai must comply.
'Then for my lady mother I shall, but dressing up is not an option.'
He turned away from his father then, completely blocking out the fact he was ever there at all. Pulling his sword in one quick flowing motion he began to rain blows down on the soldier he was practicing with, fighting out his anger untill it was absorbed the the very ground he walked on. The moon watched him fight his way deep into the night but not even a prince can stop time and soon the dawn was uppon him...

Two women bowed deeply as they left the princess' chamber, & Melody bowed her head in return. A few moments before, they'd asked her to put on the dress she was to wear the next day to check for any mishaps in the measurements. They'd found none, so their invitation to her room wasn't at all long.

After hearing the large door come to a close, Melody threw herself onto her king-sized bed. She snuggled against the many fluffy pillows that adorned it & closed her eyes for a moment before flipping herself over onto her back. She stared at the silk handing atop her canopy bed, her facial expression reflecting her thoughtfulness. Tomorrow was going to be a very important day & she knew that it was her duty to make things right, but she still couldn't help herself but wonder about things. Since a little girl, she always wondered what her prince would look like. She always dreamt of how they would live happily ever after, just like in the fairytales. & although she was older now, Melody continued to dream of it. Not of a happily ever after, but of pure happiness.

"Will I find that happiness with one of them?" Melody whispered to herself, falling asleep soon after.

The morning had come as it always did, swift and unstoppable. Kai had practiced into the early hourse of the day before finally retreating to the castle. From his room he could see miles across the Earth Kingdom, it's natural beauty never failed to astound him. The ball would be held at the White Palace that stood on the border lines of all four Kingdoms making it fair for all attending. With the ball on his mind Kai dropped into bed, exausted and fustrated he fell into a restless sleep...

'Prince Kai! You must wake up!'
An irritating high pitched voice squeaked in his ear. Even before he'd opened his eyes Kai could sense the urgency around him. What was going on?
'The ball Pince Kai, you'll be late.'
The deep voice drowned out the previous squeaking. Kai slowly opened his eyes to see the Army Captin's son leaning against the far wall. His arms were crossed and there was a mischevious grin on his face.
'Darius.'
Kai aknowledged his friend before turning to the young maid. She was hurrying about the room in a panic holding a green sash and muttering fluently in a forgien tounge. With an effort he pulled himself out of bed and started to dress himself. The trousers were a tightly fitted black riding pair, a white shirt, a black button up waistcoast and finally...he leaned over to the maid and pulled the sash from her hand. She sighed and sat down, obviously relieved. A quick glance in the mirror told him he looked like an fool. He never wore cerimonial clothes. Darius laughed at the expression on Kai's face.
'It could be worse, you could have to dress as a woman.'
Kai didn't find that even slightly amusing.
'I take it you're my escort?'
'Yes.'

The trip to the stables was quick and in silence. Kai's stallion was already saddled and ready to go along with Darius' charger. The two men mounted and rode out towards the center lands. Kai could feel the dread building with every mile he covered...

Ahiru growled at the maid who had woken her up 5 maids had literaly dragged Ahiru out of bed to get dressed for the ball she sighed and watched as they scrambled around her room frantically making sure everything was in order Ahiru looked at herself in the mirror her white hair was a mess Ahiru looked at the dress she was given to wear it was a strapless dark blue almost black with a gold sash that was meant to show she was royalty Ahiru groaned as a maid began to work on her hair they had agreed that they would leave it the way it normally is but brush it Ahiru stepped out onto the balcony she heard her parents call from down stairs Ahiru smiled and jumped off the balcony she landed on the ground with a thud and laughed at the terrified expression on her mothers face "Ahiru you can kill yourself after you get married now get in your carriage" Ahiru shrugged and entered the carriage that she would spend who knows how long in heading towards the ball...

James had been woken up early that morning, he stared in the mirror at his unruly black hair and dark brown eyes. He glared at it and ran his fingers through it, pushing it down until it was smooth. He smiled and with the maids help, he was dressed in no time. "Mom, must I really do this?" He asked again. "Yes, your father is very proud of you, know go, or you'll be late." She replied. James nodded and mounted his black stallion, kicking it into a gallop, the people around him cheered as him and his escort, Thomas, left the gates and headed for the ball. James red scarf waved in the wind, marking him as fire nation, and royalty.

"Hey Thomas, what do you think this ball will be like?" He called.
"I don't know, pretty girls, people from all over, pretty girls." Thomas called back.
"Is that all you think about?" James called back.
"No! I also think about what they're wearing!" Thomas joked.
James rolled his eyes, he hoped that he could get more out of this then marriage, even though he was fire nation he had a heart. He wanted peace and happiness, something that his brothers didn't want, or have.

Melody was woken up by early morning, her chambermaids helping her through her sleepy state whilst the seamstress gathered everything they would need. She was given a bath & her hair was washed in the large bathroom that was connected to her own chamber. The cool water was enough to wake her up completely, which she was grateful for, & the black tea that followed that warmed her up.

In no time at all, Melody was dried & dressed in a beautiful dress, the dark violet color of the main fabric matching her eyes color perfectly. Her hair was brushed & placed into elegant curls whilst natural makeup was put on her. & finally, she put on her heels.

"My goodness, doesn't she look absolutely beautiful?" Melody's mother said with a sweet smile as her daughter got into the white carriage, tears evident on the corners of her eyes.

"Yes, that she does," replied the father with a nod. "Don't you worry, my dear; she'll do well."

The journey felt like an instant, time flashing by. Soon Kai could see the White Castle and the people milling around excitedly. Kai slowed his stallion to a trot as he and Darius entered through the huge iron gates passing carriages full of men and women. Many of them smiled and greeted Kai with nods or gestures of aknowledgement, he was the crown prince of the Earth Kingdom after all, it was expected. Darius accepted every gesture with a nod of his own head knowing that Kai would not. It wasn't that he was rude it was just many of these people were much lower in rank than him.
And that he's arrogant of all Fire Kingdomers Darius thought with a chuckle. He was really looking forward to the meeting with the Fire Kingdoms prince.
'The princesses of Air and Water, do you know their names?' he asked.
'No.'
Darius sighed. 'Well it will make a good conversation starter anyway.'
Sometimes he thought Kai would rather be a soilder than a prince.

Kai dismounted and handed his horse to a stable boy at the same moment a white carriage went past. Darius whistled. Even Kai could understand why. The girl inside had been beautiful. He was trying to bite his tounge and complete the ball as quickly as he could feeling it useless as there would never be peace. Now he had an up side to his night. If there were other girls that pretty he might have quite a pleasent distraction from the torment caused by the prescence of the subjects of the Fire Kingdom.
'Shall we?'
He waved a hand casually towards the marble steps. Darius nodded and the two men entered the White Palace.

Ahiru had fallen a sleep in the carriage and was shocked when she felt someone shaking her awake she yawned and looked around the journey had felt like nothing more then a few minutes when really it had been way longer Ahiru sighed and got out of the carriage and looked around bored she wondered if she was the first to arrive or the last Ahiru attempted a smile towards the few people there but she felt nervous and sad it seemed just the other day she was a young girl running around and getting into trouble and now she was getting married to hell knows who Ahiru looked around and headed towards the garden she did not feel at all ready to meet any of the kings and queens who would stare at her with that look of expectation and obligation something Ahirus parents always did not once it seemed did they ever smile...

James was the last to arrive, since he was indeed fire nation, only the fire nation citizens said a word. Everyone else ignored his arrival. He sighed, this was either going to be fun, or he would get yelled at all night. Slowly he dismounted off of his horse followed by Thomas who tied the horses up. They entered together, both in fire nation dress, everyone judged him as soon as he entered. No one said a word and no one looked friendly at all. James looked to Thomas who shrugged in response, even though this was a peace meating, James could tell that his bride probly wasn't here, but he wasn't going to dimiss it yet. Instead he moved to a corner and leaned against the wall, he didn't want trouble, but something told him that that was all he would bring tonight. He saw the other prince and prayed he wouldn't start something, all James wanted to do was blend into the wall and disappear. Thomas couldn't think of anything to say or do, so he stayed by James, watching the others talk.

Kai watched as the beautiful girl from the carriage entered the room. The guests all pointed and muttered under their breath making snide comments or in loud voices proclaiming how beautiful she looked and how she would bring peace to the nation. Kai shook his head. The ladies and lords of the courts disgusted him. Darius handed Kai a crystal glass of punch. Kai took a sip, he was going to need it. Two boys entered the ballroom, one was wearing a red sash. Darius flinched. It was like all the warm air had gone from around him. He glanced at Kai. The prince was shaking. Darius knew why.
'Kai, why don't we go and talk to that princess? It will take your mind off that guy in the corner.'
The only problem was they had to pass the fire kingdoms prince to get to the princess. Kai nodded. Anything to stop him from attacking that boy. As they passed Kai's glared at the other prince, cracks appearing in the walls. Hie eyes seemed to say there would be no peace between them. That was exactly what they were saying. Darius sighed.
'Prince Kai, the whole point of this ball to to make peace between the nations.'
He knew Kai would just ignore him.

After sitting in the garden for awhile Ahiru got up and entered immediately people gave her that weird look of disapproval Ahiru new her trouble making reputation had spread around but its not like she had murdered anybody angry Ahiru stuck out her tong at a few of the people Ahiru noticed that the fire prince was getting the same looks at least she was not alone Ahiru sighed and looked around noticing a few of the politicians her parents had talked with they were discussing with other politicians about how the hole peace thing would turn out Ahiru approached a little when she heard what the were talking about she growled angrily they were making bets on exactly how long the peace would last Ahiru smirked the one politician had bet on the peace lasting 10 minutes or less that was low even for a politician Ahiru made her way across the room trying to find a comfortable zone but it seemed every where she placed herself she was getting odd glances other because of her silver hair or her changing eyes or just the fact that she was Ahiru the trouble maker it was going to be one long night...

James watched as the other prince passed him, he glared back, making sure the prince got his point that he wanted no part in a war, but by the look on the other prince's face, he sighed. "Thomas, what should I do? There's no one to talk to, and he's got that princess, and the other is no where to be............" He stopped seeing the other princess enter the room. He also noticed that she was disliked like he was, he watched her and the more he did, the more bad he felt. People treated her like they did him and that was no way to look at a princess.

"James.......... em excuse me, Prince James, shall we go outside, the air seems to be tense and that's not a good sign." Thomas warned, looking at the nobles that glanced at them.
"No, we should stay, if we went outside, all that would prove is that we can't stand thier judgment." James replied.
Thomas sighed, "Very well."
James glanced once more at the princess, but didn't move, he felt invisible in the corner and that's the way he liked it, but he hoped she would notice him.

Ahiru could not stand the stares she was getting it was like getting poked with needles Ahiru sighed and finally settled on a spot letting people stare at her and whisper story's of this and that Ahiru noticed one of the princes in the corner he was getting the same silent treatment as her Ahiru noticed he had to be fire nation Ahiru decided to make her way over there it was better to start up a conversation then to stand there and get stared at by politicians when Ahiru was standing near the prince she smiled kindly "looks like they don't appreciate are presence here" Ahiru said chuckling as she heard the story of her roping a wild ostrich making its way around the room Ahiru understood why they disliked her but the fire nation was generally peaceful so why hate him...

James smiled at the princess of the water kingdom, "It maybe true that they hate us both, but for completely different reasons. By the way, I'm James." He said holding out his hand, he took this time to study her, clearly she wasn't judging him or she wouldn't have walked over. "So tell me, why do they not like you? Is it because you're from a distant land or something?" He asked genuinly curious as to why anyone wouldn't like the water tribe, they had been helpful and peaceful for as long as he could remember. Then again everyone was like that except the fire nation, that was one thing he would never understand, why did everyone hate the fire nation?

James nodded, "I agree, but it'll take alot to convince this crowd of that, and I find it amusing that they can't stand that we are talking like normal people. Unlike them we can talk about something besides how long this peace will last." He said glancing over at the other prince in the room, "besides, I think the other prince has made it clear that there will never be peace between us." He added sighing.
