Ⅵ Soul Blade: Ⅵ
Manji has no preference for a specific type of blade, He'll use anything that will allow him to cut through steel, flesh, and bones. Typhoon Follows the Breeze is actually two blades. The first blade(Typhoon) is the big blade seen at the tip of the Guan Dao, about arm's length ; the second blade(Breeze) is hidden inside the staff. The tip of the weapon can be detached to be used as a sabre, and the rest of the shaft is a straight two sided blade that is sheathed. The straight two sided blade(also arm's length) Can be combined with it's sheath(the shaft) to become a medium length spear. Manji will often only use Breeze to fight because it is inconspicuous compared to Typhoon which is decorated with a dragon's head. If the situation calls for it, he will use Typhoon or both in each hands; he has never used them combined, but in the case that they are, the weapon stands as tall as him. These two blades are wrapped in cloth separately and worn on his back.
Ⅶ Secondary Weapon:Ⅶ
Manj carries in addition to his soul weapon, two blades; one is a full length katana and the other is a wakizashi which is shorter compared to the katana. He will always use these when he wishes to keep his status as a Chosen secret, which is all the time; those so far who are unfortunate enough to see his soul weapon do not live to tell the tale. These blades are sheathed and worn at his hip.
Ⅷ Blade Magic: Ⅷ
Secular Blade: With the force of the heavens behind his blade, Manji strikes down heavy blows upon his enemies. The more earthly desires the enemy has, the heavier and sharper Manji's strikes become; To Manji, the blade itself stays the same weight. When the two blades are combined to form the polearm, the Secular blade is greatly amplified. Manji's own earthly desires do not affect the blade.
Ⅸ Non-Combat Skills: Ⅸ
➣Origami: Whenever he gets his hands on paper, he will fold it into something.
➣Medicine: Monks taught him many different treatments for wounds and ailments. Many of them coming from the bountiful plants that grow in the land.
➣Flute: When living alone in the mountains often played his flute. And will occasionally do it when he's bored.
Ⅰ Personality: Ⅰ
Like the name of his soul weapon, Manji does not like to be held down by anything or anyone. The wind cannot be stopped by any mountain and will stop at nothing to pass any obstacle even if it ceases to exist as a result. He is fiercely independent and will not be lead by anyone, nor will he be burdened with the role of a leader, even though he has a knack for it since he is so blunt. He says he wouldn't help anyone unless it benefits him, which is true most of the time but he would sometime break this principle and help the person anyways; he actually does this a lot, especially when it comes to women and children. At first glance it may seem he is a lazy bum that would only charge into battle only if he absolutely has to, but beneath his sleepy demeanor, he is observing and calculating anything he can, mainly so he can put as little effort into it as possible. So yeah he's lazy in the end.
Most of his time is spent training and sleeping. Being secluded from everything gave him time to train everyday. He does not want to rely on the soul weapon and believes that a weapon is only as good as it's wielder. Oddly enough he trains at night and sleeps/ meditates during the day, which reinforces his image as a lazy bum. Being surrounded by nature all the time, Manji has incorporated his observations of the phenomena of the land into his swordsmanship and is very wise, only in in that one field though; having limited human contact for many years, he is very socially awkward and may seem strange. Which he is.
Manji is very strange. He rarely acts through logic, but rather what course that requires him to not have to exert himself too much. His diligence related to combat is poor compared to the effort he puts in preparing for combat.
Ⅱ The Reason Why: Ⅱ
So people would just leave him alone. Manji, who spends most of his time training and meditating(more like sleeping) in the mountain, has no interest in what goes on in the world outside of his mountains. He has no interests in the events that occur, because if he thought about them, it'd only piss him off more. The world outside of his high elevation sanctuary was the reason he was here in the first place: he felt weak for not being able to change it and escaped up here to give up and live the rest of his days in peace. For about 6 years he lived up there comfortably without a care in the world, other than to slaughter a few shady characters that passed through. Manji was satisfied with what he had, which a normal person would find crazy.
That peace was one day broken, and after waiting for the conflict to pass him by, Manji decided to take it into his own hands to restore the order. So he could go back to doing nothing but eating, training, sleeping, and pooping. His life was utterly crushed when the monsters appeared because he had to do things other than the things listed before. He did't really care(he does care) about how people were suffering, because he was suffering even more from his change in lifestyle.
Ⅲ Biography Ⅲ
Manji was nothing more than a drunk and abusive farmer's son. His father, who was once a vassal to a local lord that was overturned, refused to commit ritual suicide to follow his lord; he was seen as a disgrace in the eyes of the villagers. His father who was one a wise and gentle swordsman became an alcoholic child beater that would hit Manji whenever he wanted. Manji grew to despise his abusive father whose drinking habits led to his kind and beautiful mother's death, due to not being able to pay for her medicine. During moments which his father was sober, he would teach Manji the proper way of the sword, but when he was drunk, the father would only use sword training as an excuse to beat Manji. Between times when Manji had to tend to the fields, wait on his drunk father, and train/get beat up, he would roam the mountain. Manji was happiest when he was in his mountain: climbing trees, catching fish, and chasing wildlife. Everything changed when he stumbled on the aftermath of a battle. There were tens of corpses strewn across the ground; Manji was appalled at the sight. In the middle of it all was one body that stood apart from the others: the person's robe was dark red from the blood, Manji couldn't tell who's blood it was because the person had arrows, spears, and swords sticking into him like a porcupine. This person must of have stood his ground against all these enemies and slaughtering them all, only to lose his life; however, in their hands, they still held their blades... a wakizashi and a katana. In that moment, Manji could only stare at the standing corpse in awe as something moved inside Manji.
After moving all the bodies into a mass grave, Manji made a little shrine to the standing warrior in a nearby cave where he was buried. Manji did not bury the swords along with the warrior, he decided to keep them for his own use; at the time Manji did not know they were fine blades because they looked like any other blades, but they had belonged to someone legendary. From that day on, Manji would go to his mountains to train using the swords he had acquired. At first he could only wield the shorter blade, the wakizashi, and eventually he was able to effectively swing the longer katana.
At the age of 14, after living 6 years with his abusive father, and building up so much hatred, he finally decided to release his grudge: by challenging his father to a duel. The father was enraged and severed all ties with Manji , calling his son a fool, and his mother a bitch for giving birth to such a useless son. Manji snapped and drew his newly found blades on his father. Even when drunk the father still held his own against the wild Manji; the father was clearly more experienced. The father slashed Manji's forehead giving him a scar that he will wear to his grave. Manji was told to give up and beg for forgiveness and maybe he'll keep Manji as a servant or even a dog. The thing that moved inside Manji before, now moved faster and gave him the raw power to strike at the father's feet where he stood over the fallen son.
Standing over what used to be his father, now a legless rodent screaming in a pool of blood, Manji poised for the final blow and without hesitation struck down. He slowed his vengeful blade for a moment when his father seemed to have sobered up for a moment to tell him "Go on to be the great swordsman your mother would be proud of and your father wished to be..."
Manji left his village to wander, eventually joining a gang of roaming bandits. He was an unhappy child, who only killed others to fill the void that was growing inside of him. Manji lacked a purpose. One day the bandits decided to burn his hometown to the ground due to them not complying to their demands. The orders were to slaughter every man and capture all the women and children. There was little Manji could do to stop the bloodshed of those who once were his neighbors; he did not care to prevent it either, as he blankly stared into the begging eyes of the villagers. Unfortunately, the Lumina Fang were in the area and attacked the bandit raid, killing everyone, bandits and villagers alike. The leader of the platoon of Lumina Fang liked Manji's cold stare and decided to spare and recruit him into the guard. From then on, Manji killed for the Lumina Fang. He experienced many battles and witness many atrocities committed by the group, but did not even bat an eye.
Till one day he suddenly felt nauseous, and his head felt like it was going to empty all of its contents onto the walls; Manji felt all the emotions he had ignored for the past 4 years he rode with the bandits and the Lumina Fang thaw and release so much heat it was unbearable. It was that moment which his Soul Blade manifested. Remembering all the crimes he had committed, he tried his best to correct them by protecting as many people as possible while in the Lumina Fang, but it was impossible: Manji had to get away.
So he defected and ran From the Lumina Fang for years before finally gaining sanctuary in his mountains. At that point, Manji did not want to bother with the world outside anymore.
