Personality
Joseph's personality is a colorful one, and one that is generally consisting of upbeat and welcoming traits. He's an energetic, entertaining and exuberant guy who likes to goof around and have fun. He's definitely easy to be friends with on a surface level, because he makes an effort to treat everyone with true respect and is the kind of person who likes to "break the ice" with people he doesn't know. Things tend to not be awkward with him, or at least they aren't in his opinion, because he knows how to do small talk and make conversation. In fact, when it comes to Joe, conversation is something you're always going to get. It probably falls into the weakness category too, but conversation is definitely one of his strengths. It can take on a negative light in scenarios where people aren't in the mood for it, and he can sometimes be overbearing in the sense that he's always trying to be positive and in a good mood, and realistically, the world isn't like that. People have bad days and sometimes they want to have bad days, and don't want to deal with him in their ear trying to lighten things up. He genuinely tries to be friendly more than annoying, and those people who are actually his friends wouldn't call him annoying, but if you're just an acquaintance with him, the perkiness may come off as bothersome. He doesn't mean it; he just doesn't take himself too seriously.

His academic strengths come in the form of his music and math classes. He's creative and hands on, and understands things better when he can somehow be involved or relate to them. When it comes to math, science and history... well... he just can't relate. He struggles with the basic academic courses and always seems to be slacking somehow. A lot of the time it isn't even on purpose, he just lacks organizational skills and tends to be bad at remembering dates.

History
The city known for its casinos, one night stand weddings and drunken mistakes is the city that Joe knows as "home". He was born and raised in the wild city of Las Vegas, though to him, it was never so wild. What probably plays a role in that is that he left when he was thirteen, but even before that, it wasn't like every day he was hanging out with street performers and getting lap dances on the side of the road. His childhood was average; mundane, even. His father worked as an elevator mechanic for various hotels and other large buildings in the city, while his mother worked as a server at a restaurant on The Strip. His father had one child from a previous marriage, who is six years older than Joe, but Joe has never met him. Despite being an only child, Joe's family's dynamics were stable and strong. He got along with both of his parents, and despite not having much, his parents loved each other and were happy. They did what they could to make sure that their son went to a good public school, and that he had what he needed to succeed. What they didn't expect was that come fifth grade, when Joe decided to take up the violin as his orchestra instrument of the year, that he would actually be good at it. Not just good... but really good. While his favorite extracurricular activities were still flag football, video games, baseball and wrestling, he didn't compare in any of those fields skill-wise to his skill on the instrument. He went from being the best in his school for his age range, to the best in his school district, and then the city, county and state.

During his eighth grade year, Crossroads Academy approached his family, offering him a full scholarship to the school thanks to his level of excellence on the violin. All his parents had to pay for was his boarding fees, and though it put extra stress on his parents, they couldn't say no to such an offer. His mom had to pick up extra shifts at work and his dad began to work overtime, but they refused to let Joe tell them he wasn't going to go to Crossroads, and eventually, he decided that they were right. He wasn't incredibly smart, and despite what he likes to think, isn't the best athlete on the field, so his musical talents were what was going to take him places in life. Joe has been boarding at Crossroads since the ninth grade.

Appearance
Joseph stands at 6'2 and has an athletic build that speaks to his routine workouts and sheer enjoyment for being outdoors and exercising. He has brown hair that's long enough that his mother is constantly insisting he get it cut whenever he's at home, but not so long that it falls below his ears. He likes to keep it short enough where he doesn't even need to gel it upwards, but if he's too lazy to get it cut and it does grow that long, he will sometimes gel it.

So begins...

Today was the first official day back on Crossroads Academy's campus, and there was an undeniable air of excitement and jitters on campus. Throughout the morning, cars had driven up the long driveway that led onto the campus, packed to the brink with parents, children, and suitcases filled with everything a teenager could need, only to be drive right back down it a little while later, empty, and usually with teary-eyed parents. It was nothing less than a tradition, and though many felt it was sad to see their parents go, most students did genuinely like Crossroads Academy. The fact that it was located right on the beautiful California coast played a part in it, and it possessing facilities nice enough to rival top colleges was a perk too, but the relationships made while at a boarding school were different than at many normal high schools. They were stronger, or that's what many of Crossroads' students would tell you, anyway.

Like the other dorm advisers on campus, Holly and Brian had spent their mornings acquainting themselves to parents and helping students move into their rooms. They had moved on campus a few days before, and though this meant that their summers were over too, they were both glad that the school year was starting. While Holly had worked as a dorm adviser for four years, and had acted as a dorm adviser for the girls she would be living with this year since they were freshman, Brian was new to this. He had been a faculty member for Crossroads for a year before, but this was the first year that he was going to be a dorm adviser. Life circumstances combined with knowing that his paycheck would look even better if he was a dorm adviser had led him to accepting the additional position, and though he was excited, he was understandably nervous as well. He knew that this position would require him to take on an extra level of responsibility and respect for rules and guidelines, but he also knew that he had to be understanding enough to get a bunch of teenage boys to like him... or at least trust him. It was going to be an interesting experience, that much he was sure of, but he didn't have much time to worry during the morning, as he really had been busy helping kids move in. He was grateful that he had been assigned a senior dorm, only because that meant that there were slightly less parents involved. Senior students were allowed to have cars on campus, and that meant that in some cases, for those who had cars, they were driving themselves onto campus and there were a few less introductions that Brian was forced through. In the girls dorm, Holly was experiencing a similar thing, but by now she knew most of her girls' parents, and for her, introductions were welcomed anyway. She was friendly and bubbly, and far too used to this to be bothered by the first-day events.

While Brian helped some students in 3C of Chase move into their dorm, Holly was on the second floor of Wright Hall. Most of the dormitory room doors were open, with girls coming in and out as they either helped each other move into their rooms, moved into their own rooms, or were in and out socializing. She skimmed the sheet of paper in her hand that listed which room each girl was in, and once she found the name that she had starred, she headed towards dormitory room 2B. The girl's dorm had one new student this year, and Holly thought that it was best that she introduce herself and make sure that the new student, Emma, was getting settled in all right. The door to get into the dormitory was open, so Holly gently pushed it open and entered the common space of the four bedroom dorm. "Girls, is Emma here yet?" Holly called out, unsure if Emma was there herself, or if the other girls rooming there, London, Dytto or Farrah would be there. She knew the other three girls from acting as an adviser to them for the past three years, so introductions there were unnecessary, though she was glad to be back with them as well.

Theme Song ღ Bedroom: X, X, X ღ Mood: Disinterested ღ Outfit ღ Location: Wright Hall, Second Floor

"All I'm saying, sweetie, is that you could've waited for Bernard," Amelia Arnault exclaimed, frustrated, as she spread the furry duvet at the foot of her daughter's bed. The teen in question, with her back facing her mother as she set up various photos and trinkets on the shelves of her armory, rolled her eyes. "And I'm just saying that if I actually waited for Bernard, I would be waiting for Katherine and she might not have made it to the school if I did that." Was her retort, spoken calmly enough to not seem fazed by her step-sister's attitude from earlier, but with enough contempt laced in her voice that her own frustration was noted. Not that that did her anything. Dytto didn't have to turn around to note the disapproving stare her mother shot her; she could feel it digging into the back of her head.

In Dytto's head, and possibly in her mother's though the older woman was noted for trying to be understanding towards her step-daughter - and trying was the operative word when thinking about the spoiled little brat known as Katherine Arnault - she was not at fault here. Unlike Katherine, she had jumped up immediately when the housing selection began and chose her room - in fact, she had chosen her room before even London had. Which was the main reason why Katherine was upset. London had chosen a room in their dorm suite and because Katherine simply expected she was going to get the room that she wanted, she ended up choosing too late and the other two rooms had been taken. Upon that discovery, she had "anticipated" Dytto's acquiescence; obviously, the dancer was supposed to give up the space she had picked simply because Katherine demanded so. She must have forgotten who her step-sister was. A yelling match followed by Dytto's mother having to physically get in between the two, and Dytto had stormed off earlier that morning in her garnet Porsche Cayenne with Amelia following with a much larger truck to assist in moving Dytto into her dorm. She even decided to look extra cute, simply because she knew Katherine would have shit to say and she wanted to feel powerful. And nothing helped like a pair of stilettos that she was obviously gonna trade for a pair of high tops once classes started.

Luckily for her, since she honestly did not feel like pretending to ignore Farrah or even attempting to be nice to the new girl she heard was going to be moving in with them, no one had been present in the suite, so Dytto hurried to set up her bedroom. With the assistance of a few artists and cheerleaders, no doubt. She had picked up Starbucks for those who helped and it was only a few minutes ago that the others departed, each with their own drinks and Dytto in her mature taupe-grey themed bedroom that Kylie Jenner totally stole from her when she first said that that was her bedroom theme for the school year on social media. But of course, nobody was going to talk about that. "Deanna..." Her mom's pause was enough to make Dytto turn around, arms folded over her chest. Her long chestnut mane fell down her back in a sleek waterfall, one of her many snapbacks on top of her head. "I really wish you'd try a little harder to be patient. It's just a room." Dytto rolled her lightly-lined baby blues for the umpteenth time today and picked up her Venti Very Berry Hibiscus to take a long draw of the fruity beverage. "Yeah, well, you're right. It's just a room, my room at that, and if the brat wants to come to blows over it, you know that I don't mind. Might do her some good." Amelia sighed, as if still disapproving. What she couldn't stop, however, was the small smirk forming on her lips as she stood and crossed the room to her daughter. "I know you don't mind." Dytto smirked in response. "And neither do you."

Distantly, she heard what she thought was Holly's voice and a younger one, but with her door closed, Dytto didn't feel the need to strain her ears to decipher whose. She honestly did not care. She had not picked her room to be friends with people; it had been out of convenience. There was a particular view she wanted; this room had it. Even if two people she liked were in the other suite. She would just go over whenever she felt like it. "I'll go check to see if the boys need any help with that TV," Amelia said after a beat, touched Dytto's shoulder briefly, and headed to the door just as there was a knock. Dytto groaned and Amelia mouthed for her to behave before opening it, smiling at the blonde standing on the other side. "Oh, London, right!? Katherine'll be here soon, I believe. There was....a small hold up." Dytto rolled her eyes at her mother's need to explain herself and watched the older woman exit, walking up to the door so that she was standing directly in its frame. And to keep London from entering her space. Nathan was helping with getting her television from the truck and a few jocks needed to help, so Dytto wouldn't be surprised if they would arrive soon enough. "Yeah, she needed some daddy-and-me time or something like that," she added disinterestedly, drinking more of her beverage before noting Holly. A much more welcome presence. "Hey, Hollz!" The RA brightened up instantly when she caught sight of the brunette and walked over, hugging Dytto when the girl actually extended an arm. It took them a few years, but eventually, Dytto got used to showing the woman affection. It helped that she was pretty cool.

"I was wondering when you would get here, Miss World of Dance host," Holly replied and Dytto smilled, her straight white teeth showing from behind her plump, currently dark red lips. "Stop, stop...you're flattering me," she exclaimed before laughing at the woman she had teased. Holly laughed as well before gesturing to London. "It seems you two picked the best rooms in the suite. Isn't that a surprise?" Holly decided to bring up, as if wanting to begin some kind of dialogue between the two girls. Which Dytto didn't really want. Why should she? She and London weren't friends and as far as she was concerned, they weren't enemies either. No need to change shit just because they were roommates for the year. "Yeah, well, what can I say? I wanted the backdrop for dance videos." She said, pulling her IPhone 6 Plus from the pocket of her high-waisted skinny jeans in order to see where her friends were.

Joe lived in Las Vegas, which was over a four hour drive to Crossroads Academy. He didn't have his own car, and flights from Vegas to Los Angeles were only around seventy-five dollars, so it was a lot easier for him to fly into Los Angeles and take a bus to Manhattan Beach, than it was to have one of his parents drive him. They both worked and asking them to take off a day to drive him was just unnecessary. He had worked all summer at a local summer camp, and losing $100 on transportation to school sucked, but was something that he could withstand. He had only one suitcase and a backpack filled with belongings by the time that he got to school, but this wasn't really even a representation of his working class status. He didn't own a lot of things, yeah, but he also didn't want a lot of things. He had clothes, some personal hygiene items to get him through the first few weeks, his computer and his school supplies, his violin... and not much more. Anything else that he needed, he knew could be easily purchased on campus on in the surrounding area. While he didn't have a car himself, many of his friends did, and he knew that Crossroads also had a school-run shuttle that drove students into town on the weekends if he really needed something that badly.

He had gotten to school at around nine-thirty, and was completely moved in about twenty minutes later. His move in process only consisted of him dumping his suitcase into the school-provided dresser, and leaving the rest of his things at the bottom of his closet. Unlike many of the other students, he didn't need the personalized furniture and upgraded amenities. His simple personality definitely helped, considering his parents weren't going to finance flat screen televisions and queen sized beds for his room anyway. While he was already tired enough that he wanted to take a nap and catch some z's before the barbecue, his involvement in the student government association meant that that wasn't possible. A few weeks earlier, he had responded to a group email and agreed to join the committee that was helping freshman students move in and get acquainted with the school. All it took was a few minutes of socializing for him to get the energy he had lost while travelling back, and by the time he headed back towards Chase, around eleven, he was ready for the rest of the day. His stomach was definitely ready for the food, if that meant anything, at least, but then again, it was a rare occasion when Joe wasn't ready and willing to eat a feast-sized meal.

This year, he was rooming with Kiffen, Antonio and William, and he hadn't run into any of the three yet since moving in. So, on his walk back to his dorm, he messaged the three, responded to Deanna's group message separately, and also sent out a couple of other texts. By the time that he was entering 2B, he had sent out the following, and a few more to other random Artists.

To: Kiffen, Antonio, William
Hey, have you guys moved in yet? Heading back to the room now if anyone needs help

To: Dytto
Heading back to Chase... had to fulfill my student gov duties by helping the freshman move in. Btw I still want you to join student gov this year. You've got that leadership stuff in you, D-Mac... and don't try to tell me that you're too busy dancing or whatever it is you do. You always seem to have time to let me kick ur ass in ping pong, you can make time to keep your buddy company at those weekly meetings

To: Katherine
Kat! Did you move onto campus okay? Need any help?

To: London
Hey! Hope I see you at the barbecue!

To: Ellie
I better see your face at the barbecue

"There!" Dytto exhaled in satisfaction as she and Nathan set her TV down on the stand that Colin had literally run behind them with when the duo made it to the elevator. Which was good on him since, if he hadn't caught up and continued chasing tail, he would have had to wait for someone to let him on the elevator and most girls were busy reuniting with their besties and gossiping and all those cute little things most girls did once they returned to school. Dytto didn't feel the need to do such. The first person she had reached out to had been Nathan and that had been mostly to get help with moving her stuff in, and making sure he didn't put off his check-in for some inexcusable reason. She had text Natalya last night and while she, of course, would love to go visit the temptation that was Esperanza Ramos, she could wait. Katherine was there and probably London since neither the blonde or Farrah had been present when Dytto returned to their dorm.

"Finally," Nathan drawled and fell onto her bed, sprawling back rather comfortably against the fuzzy pillows that lined her headboard and propping his feet up on the fuzzy duvet at the end of the bed. His feet basically at the end of the mattress and that alone made Dytto smirk. "Lazy Sasquatch," she grumbled playfully, picked up one of the gray pillows from one of her armchairs and hurled it at the Rebel. He only laughed and caught it midair before placing the plush item behind his head as leverage. Amelia smirked from her perch on the other chair and rose to her feet. "Lazy Sasquatch who helped unpack all of your things and letting me leave," she decided to correct and Dytto put on a show of rolling her eyes as her mother planted a kiss on her forehead. "Call me this weekend...whenever. You know how we do." She reminded her and Dytto smiled, much gentler than any of her other expressions thus far in the day. Her lined blue eyes flitted over to Nathan as he, in response, averted his gaze from the scene. It was enough to make Dytto pull away from her mother knowingly, smiling all the while. "Tell Bernard I said thanks." Amelia's smile seemed to brighten and she waved, heading to the bedroom door before pausing to note Nathan over her shoulder.

"Nathaniel," she called and his head snapped up, arms folded over his chest in relaxation but eyes inquisitive. "Don't forget what I told you." At first, Nate wasn't planning on answering, especially since she had brought up their private conversation in front of Dytto. Who he usually told everything to...though, considering the dancer didn't know about his current relationship status, maybe not everything. "Yes, maam." Dytto scrunched up her face, bewildered, but her mother said nothing more. The older brunette simply stepped out and closed the door behind her. Dytto turned on Nate. "Do I need to ask?" She inquired, a playful note to her genuine curiosity. Nathan didn't even pretend to entertain her probing. "Nope." Was his curt response and her baby blues narrowed into slits - not cold, but...searching, relentless. And Nathan gave her a blank face in response. A second later and Dytto was rolling her eyes before throwing herself beside him on the bed. They had both taken off their shoes five minutes ago. "Fiiiiiine. Be that way. Wanna see Fred more than you anyway!" She snapped childishly and only the corner of Nate's mouth twitched upwardly, amused, as he watched the brunette type out a few texts.

To: Fred
Pretty much finished. Come over

To: Joe
Gonna need more than flattery, sweet cheeks. Wanna chill b4 dis cookout?

To: Black Widow
Lemme know when u get here ;D

To: Katherine
Lemme know if u tell her. I can send a pic

Was her text to Katherine a bit petty? Especially after she had purposefully avoided contacting the girl earlier when she had first seen the threat. But...well, Dytto was petty. And shady. And this wasn't really shade to London since Dytto didn't have a problem with her nor did she see a reason for the girl to be upset with her over Liam. They were just fuck buddies, after all. It wasn't her fault some people wanted to get all in their feelings. Why do feelings when you could just screw them out of your being - literally? Says the girl who still isn't over her crush, her subconscious decided to opine and Dytto told it to go fuck itself. Instead of allowing that train of thought to derail her, she glanced up at Nate with a grin. "Ready for that DLC? Nate grinned back. "Damn straight." She only giggled before hopping up so that she could attack the game system to her television.

LONDON WELLINGTON

"Thank you. All I want is for you to try, and I'm going to make sure that she does too." She felt like she was a version of Dytto's mom, trying to mediate a similar conflict from earlier. She appreciated Esper at least confirming that she would try since she knew that whenever she brought it up to Katherine, she was probably going to get an earful on how she had no reason to try, since she never did anything wrong, and everyone in the world was out to get her. "Oh my God, ew. Okay, I guess I should feel bad for you more than I should hate you for abandoning me, then. I would not go camping even if you offered me a million d--" She had begun to respond to Esperanza's explanation for why she had went MIA over the summer, when the girl blurted out "I like girls". To say that it came out of nowhere was an understatement, a complete understatement at that, and since it was so unexpected, it took a minute for London to actually realize what she was saying. It took more than a minute, actually. It took her sensing how the vibes in the room had changed, and noticing that Esperanza had a serious look on her face. One that was much more exposed and vulnerable than the tight and on guard look that she normally possessed. As she attempted to backtrack, London wanted to get sentimental and hug her, just because she didn't know what else to do, but she was still too caught off guard to even to that. She just stood frozen for a minute,, a perplexed and partially shocked look glued to her face. This situation was uncomfortable for more reasons than just one, but a major part of it for London was that she disliked situations that she didn't innately know how to handle. She liked being in control and having all of her emotions in check, and right now, she didn't know if she was supposed to be shocked or turned off or comforting or what.

London wasn't homophobic, and in the big picture, Esperanza being into girls didn't bother her. What bothered her, and left her feeling uneasy, was that she didn't understand why she was just finding this out now, when she had known Esper for years. It was incredibly selfish of London to be thinking of herself in a situation like this, but that was just how she worked. She felt like she deserved to know everything, and since Esper hadn't told her until now, it had to have been out of a lack of trust, and that in itself was unnerving. Needless to say, London's senior year was not starting out on the best note, and she had her two wonderful best friends to blame for that.

But now wasn't the time for self pity...

It took a little bit of reminding, but she eventually changed her expression to one where she was biting her bottom lip, and then a second later, forced her expression to soften. "Seriously, Esper? You 'shouldn't have said that'?" she said, repeating what the girl had said a minute before. "You're one of my best friends, of course you should have told me. You know I love you no matter what, but like, I'm going to be real with you, that was so random. I don't like not knowing what to say; you know that, but I really don't know what to say. You totally caught me off guard. Was that the preempt to you telling me that you have a girlfriend or something? Or wait, don't tell me. You've had a crush on Kat all along, and you were trying to play hard to get." Being playful felt like the best option to fall back on, partly because she really didn't know how to react to all of this, and why Esper was just saying this out of nowhere, and partly because getting all emotional and sentimental wasn't a territory that she enjoyed crossing into.

Only then did she look at her phone, and only then again, because this situation had turned into something she was uncomfortable with and didn't know how to handle, and looking at her phone provided her with a few seconds' worth of a distraction as she left both Joe and Liam's texts unanswered, and replied to a text about Jonnie leaving campus with a "kk". "I just heard that Jonnie's not coming back this year. Did he receive this news too, and you broke his heart enough for him to make up some story about his dad getting sick so that he didn't have to come back?" she said, continuing to try and be playful, though she was genuinely curious to see if there was some sort of correlation there.

Location: Chase Hall, Floor 2B, Room C || Mood: Excited || Outfit: XX

The plane just landed. 11 hours of flying and William was barely going to make it to his dorm hall. This happens every year. He goes home the last day of school and then flies back the first day. He is always cutting it close with his plane trips. He blames his mother. She always wants to spend as much time with him as possible and keeping him in Westminster seems to be the only way to do so. Luckily to compensate for the late flight his mother got him a first class ticket. He was treated like royalty though not many people knew he was royal. Will preferred to not be treated like royalty when he was trying to be a student. It's annoying for people to bow or call him sir when he just wants to be referred too as Will.

William turned his iPhone 6 plus back on and then dropped it into his pocket. He went towards baggage claim and grabbed his three suitcases. Now he was to wait. His mother had also arranged a driver, who was supposed to take him to Crossroads. William's car was supposedly waiting for him on campus. "Mr. Richardson?" An old man with a neutral look on his face, waited for a response from the young man. Will smiled politely. "Yes. That's me. But call me Will." The man nodded and grabbed two of Will's bags. They headed towards the black BMW waiting right outside. Everything was piled into the car and Will took the front seat.

One his way towards the school his pone vibrated. He pulled it out and saw that it was Joe. One of his roommates. He is not that close with Joe, but he has no problem with him. Really Will has no problem with any of his roommates. At least not yet.

To: Joe
I am on my way. Also, I am making my friends help me move in.

There was another message. Liam. The King was at the school already. Will had known Liam was there early. Something about tours and freshman. Hopefully he was not scaring the new kids too much. They deserve to get scared on their own accord.

To: Liam
I am on my way. My plane landed just a few moments ago.

Putting the phone down, he thought about his other good friend Farrah. He has not really heard from her all summer. He knows the reason why since they tell each other everything. Practically family without any shared blood. He was rather interested in seeing the guy. Will has seen him around, but does not really know him.

To: Dancer
I am on my way. Do you want to help me move in?

He assumed the answer would be yes, but he would wait for an actual answer from her. Finally he got to the school and the driver stopped in front of Chase Hall. Will lead his driver up towards his room, ready to move in.

Joe received answers to most of his text messages. However, a few minutes after sending them, he left his dorm room after receiving a text from the student government president, asking him to come outside to help set up some of the food and drink stations for the barbecue. Joe obliged, but he didn't get out of the building before he ran into the boys' new RA, Brian, who was attempting to help someone's dad move a couch up to the third floor. It didn't fit in the elevator, therefore, the two men had to carry it up two flights of stairs. Even if they hadn't seemed to be struggling, Joe would have offered to help anyway, but since they clearly needed a third person, he offered a hand and the offer was accepted. That led to him helping them with a few other pieces of furniture, and by the time he was finished, it seemed too late to offer to help Will move in. He said he had friends on their way to help him anyway, but knowing Joe, that wouldn't have mattered. He still would have offered to help, even knowing that he and Will weren't actually close friends. They were friendly, but had they not been rooming together this year, it would be unlikely that they would even be seen outside of a classroom together. He opted against answering Will's message, mostly because it seemed unnecessary, but did text back Dytto, and followed it up with another text to Eloise, and one to Rachel.

To: Dytto
Sorry, was helping someone move in or else I would've come by. Come to the barbecue. I'm heading down there now.

To: Ellie
Do you need help moving in, by the way?

To: Rachel
Rachel! Tell me you're on your way to the barbecue

Those who didn't answer his texts included Katherine and London, and really, he had no reason to be surprised. Both girls were A-listers, so that said enough, and though both returned his kindness to an extent, even him, in his ultra-friendly state, knew that they weren't actually friends. Kat was his dream girl and London was everyone's dream girl, but he was aware enough to know that the only time they were actually going to reciprocate his genuine kindness was exactly that - in his dreams. It wouldn't stop him from being nice to them, especially since he was that way with everyone, though.

The barbecue was being held on the lawn right outside of the courtyard that separated the senior girls and boys dorms. Underclassmen would be present as well, and though Joe was arriving early into the barbecue, he wasn't surprised to see that the area was already buzzing with hungry students. A tent had been pitched, and underneath it sat a buffet styled selection of just about any type of barbecue food that one could want, plus an array of coolers with drinks. Although Joe wanted to wait for some friends before sitting down, he couldn't resist going over to the lie that had formed by the food and taking his spot. Maybe he wouldn't actually sit down and eat yet, but with his appetite, it was probably in his best interest to at least begin filling his plate now.

"I don't mind having to work for it..."

When Will texted him back, Liam rolled his eyes, feigning annoyance that really had no place there. He was still on his bed, relaxing. It wasn't like he had jumped out of bed to prepare to help his friend move in, but he still wanted to pretend that he had a right to feel annoyed at plans being cancelled, even if he wasn't necessarily excited for them in the first place. Instead of bringing down the mood and being petty, though, he sent a normal text back to Will. The fact that Dytto had texted him shortly after made it easier to brush over paying too much attention to Will, too.

To: William
Alright cool

To: Dytto
I'll take that as a maybe then? Come on, lmk what I have to do to make it a yes, and you know I'll do it. Ur telling me that an ultra sexy guy with two hot feuding sisters in bed doesn't sound hot af to you? YOU'RE the weird one if that's true.

He knew that his text to Dytto placed him in that same pretentiously arrogant category that he had warned the freshman boys not to fall into, but he didn't care, since it was Dytto who he was texting. He put up with her sass, and she put up with his. It was how their friendship worked, with each purposely pushing the other's buttons. The fact that he found her sass to be a turn on helped in making it all work, that was for sure.

Since Will didn't need his help, Liam sent a text to a few of his fellow royals, and some jocks from the baseball team, and told them to meet him in the lobby of Chase. Five minutes later, he was downstairs, and the group of them headed out to the barbecue. Classes would be starting soon enough, and Will wanted to enjoy what felt like the last hour of summer before it was time to buckle down and work again. Doing that with his boys would be fun, but it would be a lie to say that his eyes weren't skimming the crowd, as they neared the barbecue, for either London, Katherine, or Dytto. They seemed like his top three choices for senior year, and he definitely wasn't going to complain about that. As they got to the tables lined with food, Liam saw one of many familiar faces, but this was one who he was close enough to to actually know his name, and care about his existence (at least to an extent). "Joe," he said, greeting the boy with a hard pat on the shoulder. "Good to see you, bro. Summer treated you well?" Though he and Joe weren't very close, or even really friends, Will knew that it was important to be friendly to most people. It allowed him to maintain a good reputation, even if it wasn't always a genuine one.

"Now, you see what you've done," Nathan demanded, though his tone was still as lax and seemingly unbothered as ever. Once the barbecue's beginning was announced, mostly anyone who had either been involved in or witnessed Natalya's "gift-bearing ritual" went their separate ways. Most, considering they were students who would obviously go where there was free food, went to the barbecue in lieu of the long line that was sure to form. Others, like the staff members Natalya had brought on to campus or simply students who would not be bothered by interactions with classmates they could do without, just left campus. Nate gestured to Dytto, who seemed to be practically vibrating in the driver's seat of her new Lamborghini. "She's like the freakin' Energy Bunny now!"

"Bitch, don't kill my vibe," Dytto sang, hands on the wheel as she debated whether or not she would take the car for a spin. As much as she liked barbecues and she always caved to the allure of honey barbecue ribs, or even a bomb burger, she could always go pick something up. Not because she didn't like the school's food, but because she honestly loved driving. The simple truth of the matter was that she had been debating whether or not she was going to allow Bernard to purchase her another vehicle. He had said something about wanting both her and Katherine to have cars that they could share or simply have back-ups - whatever reason he came up with the idea that any one person needed more than one car still alluded her, but she wasn't going to deny a good vehicle - on any given day. Now, she didn't have to worry about feeling bad for having him spend money on her. Since... well, someone else beat him to it. Not to mention it had a wicked fucking paint job that totally did not make her jump up and down like a damn loon. Because, Dytto would never do that, absolutely not. Too cool for that.

"But still, as much as I love it, you know I'm gonna have to send this home. Can't take up two parking spaces," Dytto acknowledged ruefully to her best friends, climbing out of the Lamborghini and closed the door behind her in favor of leaning back against. It took her a second later to turn a look to Nathan as she said, "And I like how you're talking shit considering you're still leaning against that thing like you're actually Logan. All you need is a cigar and you'll have it made." Not to mention the tragic backstory, she almost quipped, but then again, he already did. Which was why Dytto kept her damn mouth shut. Either Nate didn't notice her almost slip or didn't care enough at the moment because he grinned at her a second later. "Says the girl who's all heart eyes over a damn car and she barely even likes anything less than an SUV." She only stuck her tongue out at him and he stayed propped up against his new bike, a bit happier than he was going to admit to either of his friends.

"But also, how the hell is anyone supposed to get you a present after this?" Nate inquired with a raised brow, standing straight when he noticed more students heading in the direction of the barbecue. Dytto hummed in agreement. "Yeah, some of us don't have money coming out of our asses here," she complained, wincing in faux reproach at the look Nathan tossed her. "Says the girl with the thousand dollar television," he reminded her. "Not my money." Nathan only rolled his eyes before turning his attention solely on Natalya. He did, though, bite out at a "Shut up!" Dytto pouted and muttered, "Okay, okay," and pulled out her phone to see messages from her friends, but also to figure out where Fred had disappeared to since she had lost him in her earlier excitement. Esperanza too, but Dytto was pretty sure she'd catch that eye candy back at the barbecue.

To: Liam

"I know, I know, senior year is the time for me to have
'fun'... if only it was that easy."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"You've got everything you need, then? You're sure?" Theresa Tailer, Eloise's mother asked, as Eloise stood beside the passenger side of her family's car. Her mother sat beside the window, and her father in the driver's seat, just as her father was getting ready to pull out of the school's parking lot. "Yeah, I have everything that I need. Thanks for all of the help," she reassured her mother, before looking further into the car at her father, with a lighter smile. "I really hope you didn't actually throw out your back, dad. I told you that I could have asked someone to help you move that television in," she said, a small giggle escaping despite her will to suppress it. "Me? Nah, I'm alright. You know my saying, 'if you want it done right, do it yourself'. Your old man never needs help, you should know that by now, Ellie," he insisted confidently, in a way that made her mother roll her eyes and follow up with, "And that's exactly why it took us an extra hour to get here. You've been here how many times, and not even that or the GPS was enough to keep you from taking us on a 'short cut'?" Before her father could answer and defend himself, Theresa's smile turned softer and she returned her gaze to her daughter. "Don't let us keep you any longer. Go out to that barbecue and have a good time, Ellie. Really, have fun this year. We know you'll do good, but we want you to have some fun too, okay? And you know that we're just a phone call away if you need anything."

Eloise knew that she really was lucky to have such great parents. The issues that she had with her parents were infrequent and minor, and though some of that could be related to how she only really lived with them for three or so months out of the year, they really did get along well. She respected them, and they treated her maturely, allowing her the freedom that most teenagers her age lusted over. As her mother seemed to be hinting at, it wasn't a level of freedom that Eloise abused though. She wasn't the kind of teenager who drank or used drugs, or snuck out late at night or threw parties when her parents weren't home. It just... wasn't her. She was the kind of girl who enjoyed fading into the background. That was where she was comfortable... where she could see everyone else, but no one else really saw her. Maybe it was a little bit less fun and exciting on that side of things, but it was safer there. "Alright, I'll Facetime you guys tomorrow. Love you," Eloise said, a wave being enough to send off her parents, since they had gotten through the emotional hugs and all earlier, after her parents helped move her in.

With them gone, she could go to the barbecue, and only since she was hungry, did she decide to do that. Big gatherings weren't really her scene, and she much preferred the idea of readjusting to her school dormitory setting over socializing, but even she couldn't turn down barbecue food. Her attention remained focused on her phone for a few moments as she returned a few text messages, including one to Joseph.

To: Joe
Haha I'm on my way there now! And yeah, my parents just left. I'm all moved in.

It didn't take long after the message was sent for her to spot Joseph filling his plate, but the boy standing beside him made her resist the urge to go over to her friend. Liam wasn't someone that she had any intention of interacting with, and she thought that returning to her dorm would have been the preferable choice over having to socialize with him. Her grumbling stomach rejected that option very quickly, but she decided to start at the opposite end of the barbecue, just to relieve herself of having to interact with the blonde. Starting at the opposite end didn't disappoint her either, since she was able to fill her plate with a burger and french fries, and grab a water bottle as well. It was all she wanted, and after getting everything, she headed across the lawn to an empty table and sent out another two text messages.

To: Joe
I'm not sure if you're going to sit with your other friends, but I found a table if you want to come over!

To: Fred
Hey Fred, are you at the barbecue? I missed you this summer!

LONDON WELLINGTON

"I am seriously craving a good burger right now, so let's go for a run later, kay? You know it just as well as I do that that's one of the major cons of California, over New York. In New York, you have all fall and winter to let your summer body fall apart, and then you still have all spring to build it back up, but we have to stay in shape year round here." She caught herself after that, and quickly corrected herself. "Well I have to stay in shape year round. You, on the other hand, need to make sure this year you actually keep some meat on your bones. I really hope you're over that phase, Kat," she said, the last sentence coming with an included knowing glance at her friend. When London had found out about Katherine's eating disorder a couple of years back, she had treated it in a similar manner as Esperanza's coming out. It was something that she was uncomfortable with, because she wasn't well-versed in being incredibly supportive in a lovey-dovey way. She wasn't the kind of friend who could send Katherine text messages every morning to remind her to eat a healthy breakfast, or tell her that she was beautiful the way she was. She just didn't function that way, no matter how close she was with the person. She was more comfortable with shooting Katherine glares when she saw her passing up meals and sternly telling her that she wasn't going to stand to spend senior year with her best friend locked up in some mental institution. Luckily, or at least from what London had been told, Kat's summer had went well and she was on the right track to recovery. The eating disorder had been "cured" and Katherine would be the present, exuberant and vibrant girl that London loved. That was the plan, at least.

The girls had left Katherine's dormitory a few minutes earlier, and were now arriving at the barbecue. Even from a distance, the smell of the fresh barbecue food made London's mouth water. As she had said, she tried to be healthy about what she ate because she did care about maintaining her figure, but she wasn't the type of person who obsessed over that type of stuff. Definitely not to the extent where she could turn down food that fit her cravings, every now and again. Though London knew that being at the top of the social pyramid came with its responsibilities, right now, she really just wanted to focus on her friends and food, so when a couple of sophomores approached her with eager smiles on their faces, it took a bit of effort to hide her dwindling patience. "Hi London," the first girl chirped. London knew her name to be Jenna, only because she was one of the girls who had seemed to only join the yoga club the year before, to pester her. Whenever they crossed paths, it seemed like this girl had a million questions about what London had done the weekend before, what her plans for the next weekend were, what color nail polish she was wearing, and where London recommended she get a dress for an upcoming gala. It was cute at first, and even London could admit that having followers was sometimes a nice boost to her ego, but after a while, the girl had become nothing short of annoying. Her little posse of friends, whose three names were unknown to London, were just as annoying. "That club you were at a few weeks ago looked so fun! Where were you? I was, like, totally jealous," Jenna continued, quickening her pace to keep up with London, who had continued walking even after the girl's greeting. "I'm not sure," London mulled, uninterestedly. She knew what club the girl was referring to, because she had left several comments under the Instagram photo London had posted of herself there, asking this same question. And like those comments, London wasn't going to give an answer to this question either. "We'll talk to you girls later," she then added, slightly abruptly, as she decided that she wanted to lose the girls before they killed her vibe. Kat's brattiness and Esper's testiness had already taken a toll on it, and she wasn't going to let it worsen any more. Not even after seeing Liam standing beside the burgers. Nope, he wasn't that important, and that reassurance made her want to approach that area even faster, especially after seeing William, Farrah and Joe, three people who could be considered friends, standing beside him.

"Excuse me," she said, a curt and clearly feigned smile on her face as she nudged Liam just enough to have access to the burgers for long enough to put one on her plate. She had forced Kat to take a plate as well, and even though she knew the girl would probably complain later on, she placed a burger onto her plate, too. "Farrah, you should totally come sit with Kat and I," London said, in a slightly unusual act of welcoming someone who wasn't part of her clique, into it. Farrah was an A-lister, and that made her familiar territory, plus, she was going to be her roommate, so London decided that it was perfectly acceptable. Plus, she didn't want to just sit with Katherine, and she had spotted Esperanza a moment before, but with Kat's stepsister and Natalya, so she didn't want to deal with insisting that Esper sit with them, and have that lead to two people Kat despised joining as well.
