Hello Applicant,

The Defense Applications Corporation would like to thank you for your consideration in taking up a contract to help benefit the future of mankind. An important anomaly has been discovered within the deep jungles of Mexico. This area is so secluded that there is no name for it, as of now we will refer to the Area-of-Operations as "Obsidian" because of the large amounts of obsidian found in the area. As you may have guessed there is not much known about this area. There are no human settlements within hundreds of miles and the area has only been mapped due to satellites, but satellites can only see so much because of the dense vegetation that Mexico is known for. The purpose and objective of this mission is to observe the area and study the anomaly. If you choose to accept this mission then more details will be sent to you, in addition classified information will be revealed to you as you report to the DAC staging area in Florida.

Whatever tools or equipment you need will be provided to you by the DAC. Your resources are utterly limitless and whatever you need to fulfill your objectives will be attainable, within reason of course. You will live in comfort with the best living arrangements that money can buy. Weekly supply drops will also be sure to leave you in peak condition to do what you need to do. Applicants be aware: DAC is not the only group that has discovered this anomaly. We are just among the first. You may find contact in Obsidian that is not DAC, these groups will be dealt with by your leaders, peacefully.

Also for your consideration an early-response team has been sent to Obsidian to help clear the way for you and your group. This contract pays handsomely and for each week you are at Obsidian we promise $250K in addition to taking care of your living needs and mission-essential equipment. The DAC would like to thank you for your time, please reply back with your application as soon as possible so that we may work with your schedule and send you in a timely manner.

Best Regards,
President Coast of the Defense Applications Corporation

Let's knock of all the sugar-coating and tell you a bit more that the DAC wouldn't want to tell you. This mission is no walk in the park, yes, you and your team will be adventuring into the unknown depths of the Mexican jungles searching for the said anomaly and to study and observe it. Satellite imagery has detected multiple unknown heat signatures within Obsidian. All of various sizes, one of which seems to be the size of a 2-story building. It is unknown as to what is being detected but the first-response team has already touched down in Obsidian and has radioed in eerie transmissions describing creatures that have not been seen before. Frog-like creatures the size of men, jaguars with spikes growing from their spines and tails ending with a clawed hand, ghost-like human shapes prowling the water sources and other unearthly creatures roaming throughout Obsidian. An image has been transmitted but due to electrical interference the image is hard to make out
Image

We do not know if these transmissions are completely accurate. If they are then there may be something in the air cause hallucinations. Regardless if these sightings are real or not we will not be taking any risks. The Expeditionary team will be taken care of and there will be a security detail. There is also some intelligence confirming that another Corporation working for an anonymous country is mobilizing to send in a heavily militarized "observation" group. Most observation groups don't roll in with attack choppers or armored personal carriers, this mysterious Corporation is up to something so stay on your toes.

One more piece of intel, we are gathering that villages and towns closest to Obsidian is beginning to have civil unrest. A group in Mexico City is tagging walls through the city with phrases saying,"WE ARE HIS SLAVES" and "THE NIGHT WIND COMES". There have even been cases of human sacrifice happening ever since the anomaly set off our sensors. We do not know if this is truly related to Obsidian or not but it is best to not take any chances. We are hiring the best, lets not need to hire second-best cause of some accident that we could have prevented.

AJ ran as hard as he could.

Pumping his legs up and down as fast as his athletic body would let him. Looking back every second when he wasn't focused on running forward. Rain streaming down and drenching his combat gear, weighing him down heavily. Jungle branches and greenery making AJ's sprint ineffective. His conditioned lungs were burning in a way that he hasn't felt since he first joined the Marine Corp in boot camp. He lost his primary rifle some time after the shadows started moving and picking off members of the first stake team. It was as if he was dreaming but the blood-curdling screams and the blood that was splashed on his face was definitely real. The security portion of the first stake team started to unload into the forest. Bullets striking tree wood, throwing splinters and wood matter into the air. But there was no indication they were hitting anything. The archaeologist that was in front of AJ suddenly was lifted up from the ground and rocketed up towards the jungle canopy with a helpless cry.

AJ unleashed volleys of bullets up at the higher branches with his M4A1, stopping only to reload. He didnt see what he was aiming at but he didnt care. He was going to hit something at some point. Suddenly, like a meteor something fell to the earth with a fleshy thud. AJ aimed down at it, in horror he recognized the fleshly lump. Only slightly. It was the archaeologist that was just taken up, slashed and torn with his jaw missing. It was as if the man was looking at AJ, begging for help. All of his years in the Marines never prepped AJ for this. He turned and bolted towards base camp. The remaining parts of his team could be heard putting up a fight. Machine gun fire, explosions and horrible screams filled the air. But the farther AJ got, the more the sounds began to die out. It was less of AJ making distance and more that the team was dying.

AJ was a survivor, he knew when to cut and run so he bolted. He knew base camp was just up ahead. He just needed to keep moving. He could get into one of the pre-fabs and barricade it. AJ just needed to haul for another 100 meters. He could see the treeline. Maybe the nightmare will finally be over. A small sense of relief came to him as he ran. 50 meters. AJ reached for his radio,"Someone... please..." As he was within 5 meters of clearing the jungle to the open space of base camp he jumped over a vine. But this vine moved.

AJ cleared the trees, a massive sense of relief flowed through him. He yelled into his radio between breathes," Pioneer Squad! Did anyone make it out?! ANYONE?!" Falling to his knees, realizing he might be the only one alive and the physical excursion taking everything out of him. A loud snapping sound could be heard as it echoed around the small clearing. Instincts took over and AJ pulled his M9 from his thigh holster and aimed at everything that seemed to move within the treeline. Then he heard a voice behind him,"Hey there..."

AJ turned as fast as he could and within the blink of an eye a vine pulled him into the treeline as the shadows consumed him. Leaving behind an eerie silence that was a stark contrast as to what was heard just a few minutes before.

The cool air surrounding Revan Steele was a very welcome change compared to the extreme temperatures that normally bombarded his body. The extreme dry heat of the Iraqi deserts, the intense cold of Serbia, the unwavering rainfalls of Cambodia, all seemed so distant as he walked in a very modern sushi joint. The smooth lines and simple colors of the theme of the restaurant created a very contemporary feel while telling all the occupants that eating here meant you were with a certain class of people. A class that Revan did not fit at all. He was dressed in a dark grey long-sleeved shirt that was rolled up to his elbows with a well worn pair of jeans covering his lower half. His very used brown Belleville boots and sweat stained Condor Multicam hat finished the working man look that Revan always seemed to be dressed in. While in the civilian world anyways.

When he first entered the male greeter gave Revan a look as if he was lost. It was quite the contrary, he specifically looked for this place in Southern California because he heard the sashimi was world class. He might not look it but Revan enjoys himself when it comes to food or having experiences. He definitely made enough money where he could do so. Revan looked at the young man who was dressed in the common white shirt and black slack combo with a skinny black tie, used his index finger to signify seating for one. The young man paused for a second with a bit of confusion. Revan raised his left eye brow.

"Im sorry..." The boy stammered, "Do you have a reservation?" Revan looked around the establishment and found it to only be at half capacity. The price of the food alone made it hard for even the upper crust to justify having lunch instead of just having dinner later. "Excuse me?" Revan replied, giving the boy the infamous thousand-yard stare. Finally giving in the boy semi murmured, "Uh, um forgive me sir I seem to have found an open spot at the bar..."

As he sat in the plush stadium seat style bar stool Revan found himself at the front of the action. A curved plexiglass display showing what fish was fresh and the chefs preparation table. For a brief moment Revan gave a slight smirk, this was going to be a very welcome departure from the field rations and game he had to eat while spending 9 weeks in the savannas of Africa. A chef emerged from deeper inside the kitchen, dressed in traditional Japanese kitchen garb. Revan nodded his head at the smiling chef.

With genuine warmth he asked, "What can I prepare for you today?" Revan replied as he place 5 green rectangles on the top of the counter," Omakase and keep 100 for yourself." The chef nodded, took the money and went straight to work. Revan watched as he masterfully sliced strips of flesh from fish that was caught mere hours ago. Creating a masterpiece on top of a long white plate. Revan watched in awe at the finesse and the precision of the man's cut and placement.

After a few minutes the chef finished and laid out the plate of his choice fresh fish in front of Revan and bowed his head. Revan bowed back looked at his food and could not believe how after just a few hours of leaving his previous area of operations he was in southern California enjoying the best sushi and sashimi that his area had to offer. He first went for the salmon and savored the flavor in his mouth, he looked back at the chef who was waiting to hear a criticism. Revan made eye contact, smiled and nodded his head.

Revan delicately began to eat the rest, truly enjoying the different styles and types of fish that was laid out on the canvas in front of him. After he finished and felt satisfied Revan thanked the chef and placed another Benjamin on the counter because after the delight his mouth just went through he felt like the chef deserved it.

As Revan was leaving he met the young host again and said,"Next time Ill wear my tailored suit and shave." He handed him 50 bucks, hoping that it would teach the boy not to judge books by their covers. Leaving the establishment Revan had summoned a luxury car for pick up. Revan entered the back of a new Cadillac Escalade, finding himself in that air conditioning that he still wasnt getting use to. Revan rested his eyes because it was about a 45 minute drive to West base.

Thats when all Revan saw and felt was death.

The atmosphere was dark and grungy. Vision was at a bare minimum, the only light that could be seen was the flickering lights of random fire trails until an abrupt end with a metallic shape that seemed to be engulfed in flames. Unrecognizable jagged shapes jutted out from the ground. Revan realized his vision was blurry, his audio sounded like he was underwater. He shook his head to try to clear things up. Instead all he felt was a throbbing pain in his head. Instinctively, Revan reached for his primary rifle that would be dangling on the front of his plate carrier. Realizing that he was still on his knees, Revan painstakingly tried to stand. His body felt as if it was on fire with sharp pains throughout his body. The rifle he brought up was only half of the rifle that he had originally. The only remaining part of his primary was the lower receiver of his Mk18, the upper part must have caught on something and just ripped off or something. Now was not the time to try to piece together what had happened. Instead he pulled his sidearm from his upper thigh holster and brought it up to the low-ready position. It was a 1911 that was updated for modern combat, he had a light on it but he did not want to turn it on to alert anyone.

Revan could start hearing better, as the muffled sounds became clearer and clearer. He could make out the sounds of metal whining and flames snapping. Electricity cracked and the smell of gasoline filled the air. There was another sound that he was hearing. His eyes widened as Revan realized what it was. Moving forward with one foot in front of the other, he moved towards a source of the miserable cries. Turning around a pile of metal and other things Revan found one of his friends, lying there. Holding his guts. His screams filled the air and thats all that Revan could hear.

Revan jolted awake.

He was still in the back of the black Escalade, in all of its air-conditioned glory. Revan's breathing slowed down a bit as he realized he was just having another episode. Just another reason why he could not sleep. The driver noticed Revan stirring and announced,"We are 30 seconds out sir."

Revan nodded and took in the scenery as the vehicle approached the entrance of the base.

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

I don't think I'll be joining you all. As much as I enjoy the idea, my essays are keeping me from having enough free time. So, my deepest apologies, but you're all on your own.

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

Alright guys! im going to start up everyones introductionary posts. Basically by Monday Im going to allow everyone time to make an intro post before we have out characters meet at the DAC base.

Please be sure to start filling out those CHaracter Sheets and lets be ready to have a ball!

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

That all sounds good to me, can't wait to get started!

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

Alright guys! Our team is growing! Im just pretty much waiting to hear on Igari now, but guys this is going to be amazing! I am going to set up posting etiquette.

1. please post 2-3 times a week, if you post once please oh please let it be by Saturday

2. Please dont overload the story, Im sure we all know this but dont post up on the story 10-40 times in a row in the course of 24 hours without anyone adding to the story. But if all the other characters are posting then its with the flow so keep it up!

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

Hey there! I'm really interested in joining this roleplay. I'd like to take up the role of the engineer. His name is Casey Brooks, but most people just call him Brooks. Basically, he likes to blow shit up. He is 35 years old and his faceclaim is Josh Duhamel.

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

Hey guys! Looks like you've got an awesome team already and I'd love to join pretty please! :D

So my character that I had in mind is for the role of the security detail, specifically Close Quarters and it's going to be a chick. Her name is Zurine Ramirez but known to all as Remi. She your regular tough chick, one of the boys. She can be scary as she's tough as nails and some people will find her intimidating. There's lots more to her but I'll save it for the CS. Face claim is Michelle Rodriguez.

Can't wait to RP with you guys!

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

Hey guys! Thank yall so much for the responses! So honestly Ill start if at least two more spots are filled! If you have any friends feel free to invite them. Id like to get started soonish, like in the next 3 days or so. Its the weekend so hopefully there is more of a response.

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

If this comes to fruition, I will put forwards a draft concept for you--I also have a soft spot for lovecraftian horror. If that is indeed what it is!

I am very interested in two roles, I am not sadly so much of a lady as perhaps Klock is a gentleman. But I will be nice for now and only lay claim to one of them. (Let it be known my eye is on both, however, and we will keep it at that)

Let's start with the Archaeologist! Our quirky, upbeat little love adores the unknown, the dead, and the uncomfortable. Tell her she has to dive into a pit of bones in order to retrieve some historical texts of value and she is more than willing to take the plunge. Possibly without the proper equipment in her excitement. She's rather good at her occupation, so she says. Speaks fluently several dead languages, writes her diaries in hieroglyphs, and always has a few knives and tazers at her disposal to make a quick getaway. She is on a quest for knowledge--and what better place to do it than this one? Following the strange and bizarre, that is a one way ticket to an ancient ruin that is sure to spell the entire end of the human race! And the beginning of her career when she deciphers all the strange text!

Obviously the character sheet will be more detailed but I don't want to put in the work of creating it without the proper support here. So I will see if this gets off the ground--hopefully.

Oh, the face claim is going to be Janelle Monae.

Re: Dawn of the Ancients: The Awakening

I'm fucking down. I don't care if this is a bigger role on action than I may usually like, but you my friend are dipping your toes in a Lovecraftian story I can't help but dive headlong into. You are a genius and I'm so happy I discovered this.

Also, you may not realize this, but you played a character in one of my friend's RP's on this site a while ago. It was called "Catalysts" or something like that. While I don't exactly remember your characters, I just thought it was a nice little history lesson for you.

All that talk done, I'll give you my first character request. I say first, because I'm more than willing to fill some empty slots later should we need to. But, I'm nothing if not a gentleman, so I'll let the other darlings throw in their lovelies as I stake my claim behind this one.

So, here he is:
Eric Kaligari, ("Kal"), is an eccentric doctor of medical sciences, and is quite comfortable with the bodies of the dead, or the almost-dead. The living, he's not quite figured out yet, but that's yet to stop him from putting his almost unnatural skill with the surgeon's blade from diving headlong into warzones, uprisings, and the odd riot. Whenever there's fighting to be had, and bodied begin piling up at the door, this "Crow" always seems to follow. He claims it's due to his sense of adventure and altruism, while his former colleagues think he finds too much pleasure slicing through bodies. Having survived 46 years in the world, Eric has begun to think he's seen it all. (There's only so many ways a man can be shot, honestly), when he receives the message that changes his life.
FC: John Cusack (is liable to change, sorry I'm picky.) Image
