Introduction

Noralisaniler is the city of technology and science. It is or was the only city to have an advanced science laboratory but something happened. On the first of November, an experiment was carried out and ended in failure. The experiment was dropped right in the center of the city where the laboratory was built. It led to a burst of gas creating a virus that no one could ever imagine. It is known as the Deleta virus. Anyone that was in sight of the laboratory was turned into what the people call a zombie. A little bite from a zombie could end the person and turn them into one of them. One zombie can wipe out the whole population in a year or so. The news has been broadcasting all about this experimental failure and people from the city are trying to flee. They know that the only thing they can do is hope. Hope for the dead to leave. Hope for the disaster to only be a nightmare...
The city is now covered in many brain eating zombie and there is no way of escaping.

Type Of Deleta Virus

ImageMinor Deleta
The first type of virus that has been released from the experimental failure is the Minor Deleta. It will cause the infected to age quickly and go insane, eating everything they see. This type of virus will create a monster that they call a zombie. They can not run as they are aged but they are very strong. They can rip open any body and object in their way. The only way to take them out is by the brain because that is the area that the virus infect.

I sat on my best friend, Amy's couch and flipped through the channels. Amy's mom told me to put on the channel that had the news on it. She had said that recently scientists had released the "virus" that apparently could start the zombie apocalypse. Of course I didn't believe that. I mean honestly, I've only seen the "zombie apocalypse" happen in movies and video games and they didn't even look realistic.

I managed to pry myself off of the very soft and comfortable sofa so I could make myself breakfast. Amy was already in there making her own. I grabbed some cereal from the top of the fridge and milk from the inside. I nearly spilled my milk over the counter when I heard Amy's mom scream. We both ran out to the living room to only see her mom sitting there not hurt or anything. "Mom?! What happened?" Amy had been nearly screaming at her mom for scaring her so much. "Oh, it's nothing honey. I'm just so startled about this whole....well...virus thingy." Of course. Only Amy's mom would be scared about the "zombie apocalypse".

"With all do respect Mrs. Plank, I don't think that could really happen. I mean, dead people walking around with a HUGE case of the munchies? It just doesn't seem, real."

Lauren was gazing out the window, it was music class and she didn't have much interest in it. All she could think of was the experiment that her dad told her the laboratory were working on. She was always concerned about his safety because of the fact she knew how dangerous it was to work with chemical. Suddenly, her so called best friend pushed her.

"You awake slut? Who would care if the experiment went wrong?" Karis questioned without hesitation. Lauren was the type that never really argued back but this time was different, Karis took it too far. "Just because your family left you for some stupid job, doesn't mean it is the same for me!" Lauren replied in anger. "Don't talk to Karis like that, get lost freak" the whole class exclaimed. The room suddenly became silent.

Her phone suddenly rang.

"Get everyone out of school and to safety!" coming from the other side of the phone "The whole city is a disaster". The call was... Cut off. Lauren knew right then that the experiment had ended in failure. She shouted at the phone for a reply, but no answer.

"Everyone, an experiment from the science facility just led to a disaster. You have to all get home now!" she warned while shaking in terror. No one listened, not even one. Suddenly, the teacher came rushing back to class explaining about what Lauren had just said and the whole class rampaged out of the classroom. Lauren dragged Karis with her.

Suddenly the man on the T.V. interrupted the picture on the screen. "ATTENTION EVERYONE: EVACUATE ALL UNSAFE AREAS AND GET TO SHELTER. WE ARE HAVING AN EMERGENCY." And Tiffany couldn't believe it. Had this "virus" rumor really been true? Mrs. Plank started to freak. "Girls! Get to your rooms! The zombie apocalypse is starting!" Oh my god. Does she really believe this is the zombie apocalypse? It's probably just a wildfire or something. Amy and Tiffany walked to their room and sat on the bed. "Do you really think this is the zombie apocalypse?" Amy asked me sounding worried. "Please, I was thinking it's probably just a wildfire or something like that." We "hid" in the room until we started to hear the sound of firetrucks and police cars. "See? Firetrucks, probably just a fire." At least I hope it is. Tiffany told herself.

While rushing through the school corridor, Lauren looked out the window to see that a horde of the infected were hungrily waiting outside by the gate. It was just like one of those horror movies turning into reality.

By the time Lauren and Karis got to the other end of the corridor, the whole school was already deserted apart from them. They were lost in terror, even though they have been to the school for a long time. Their mind just went blank. All of a sudden a moan sounded through the school followed by a scream...

This was it, the start of an end. Every door came by a pile of zombies, the only way was to to jump out the window but it was too high. They didn't have a choice but to jump. Karis jumped first without thinking, Lauren following behind. The height was pretty big and it led to some major damage to the leg. Never mind that, they carried on limping out of the school ground only to be greeted by more zombies. They were too young to look after themselves, they needed someone to come help them...

They finally made it out to the street of Noralisaniler.

Almost out of nowhere, banging started on the door. Tiffany frantically looked out the small bedroom on the second floor. She saw these, almost "lifeless" figures roaming the streets moaning and groaning. "Oh my god what is this? Some sick joke?" Tiffany exclaimed to Amy. "If it is somebody did a damn good job of it." Suddenly the door broke down and screams came from the lower level. Amy started to sprint towards the door.

"Amy! It's dangerous down there! You'll get killed!" But Amy didn't care. That was her mom screaming and she knew it very well. "Just go! Through the window and LEAVE." Amy busted through her bedroom door and started for the living room. "Well, bye bestfriend." Almost immediately after Amy had left the room she started crawling through the window, it was a long drop but she could handle it. She dropped down to the soft grass and started a slow pace walk onto the streets. It's just me now. Tiffany thought to herself.

Liam watched the people shuffle and stumble around on the streets from his loft above his bar. 'A lot like drunks,' he thought silently, flicking a bit of ash from his cigarette onto the floor. Empty bottles lay around the apartment, dull in the grey light from the window. His bed was unmade, his floor was littered with clothes and ash. He didn't mind.
Liam had to have a plan, he always did. 'Right now,' he thought, taking in the zombies on the streets below, 'is time for contemplation.' He grabbed a flask and poured himself a drink, figuring he would need a little liquid bravery to manage to slip out of this one. Liam screwed the cap back on the flask, tucking it into his bag, along with several dish rags, socks, and bottles of moonshine he had picked up. Into the leather messenger bag he also shoved a change of clothes and a picture of his family. He sipped on his whiskey, enjoying the sting as it went down. His mind was foggy, which was probably for the best at this point. He flipped his lights off, locking his bedroom door, shattering his glass against the floor to deter any looters that might try to break in.
Calmly, almost lazily, he walked down the stairs, and into his driveway. He put the bag in the back of the car, and quickly hopped into the driver's seat, jamming the keys into the ignition and speeding off. He didn't care what he hit, as long as whatever these things were didn't get to him.
Liam sang along to a song he had heard on one of his father's records once, trying to fight off the familiar feelings of fear, doubt, and seth-loathing, still smoking on his cigarette.

As Tiffany walked down the nasty, garbage filled street she heard an engine roaring about a mile down the street. "Oh great, zombies that can drive cars!" Tiffany thought to herself as she rolled her eyes. She had managed to avoid and zombies that had crossed her path. There was no way she could kill any of these, "things" with just a small hunting knife. Maybe a midget zombie but nothing more. The engine she had heard had either gotten louder and softer, but she couldn't tell. Instead of hesitating she started to walk faster not caring about whether the vehicle was coming closer or going away.

Liam saw the girl. She was a faint blob with blue hair on the horizon, so alive compared to the living dead that filled the streets. He decided to try and approach her.
He never really liked people, but he felt somewhat obligated to help this girl. Something about the way she stood reminded him of his sister.
One difference though: he would not allow her to get killed like his sister probably did, losing her humanity to some stupid virus.
He sped up, until he reached her, driving beside her as she walked, holding his cigarette in one hand. "Hey, need a ride?" he asked. The words were so casual and unfitting to the gloom and depression that filled the streets, he almost laughed.
He liked this girl, even though he was a bit buzzed, he could see that she was obviously strong and capable.
'This should be interesting, I suppose,' he mused.

While Tiffany continued her speed walking, she had known now that the car was definitely coming her way and fast. And of course it had stopped right next to her. "Hey, need a ride?" Well at least he wasn't some zombie driving a car. Tiffany had been walking for a couple of blocks now and needed a break. "Um, sure." She strolled around to the passenger side of the car and got in. She wasn't exactly "fond" of talking to strangers so instead Tiffany fumbled with the small knife she had tucked away in her zippered pocket and hummed her favorite song quietly. She would occasionally look up just to see the chaos that the city had come to.

"This city has really gone downhill," Liam remarked quietly, watching the zombies shuffle slowly. He blinked for a moment, flicking his cigarette out the window, rolling it up, and driving. He paused a moment, and then remembered that he was supposed to introduce himself. "My name is Liam. Nice to see someone who isn't like them," he gestured to the zombies outside the car. "I apologize for such short notice, normally I wouldn't just pick people up off the street, however, I believe an exception is in order in this case." He kept his eyes on the road, not even flinching as a zombie hit the windshield and slid off, leaving a trail of blood. Liam flipped on the windshield wipers, swiping the bloodstain off, and then let the wipers lay idle again. "Any idea if there's anywhere we should go? I honestly don't have any particular place that would be any safer than this car, and this car is like a mobile cage. Not safe at all, not safe." He sighed, not liking this situation. The odds weren't in his favor.

"I'm Tiffany." She said still fumbling with the tiny knife in her palm. "I'm not sure where to go. I just planned on walking until I found someone that did know where to go. And I'm guessing you are not one of those people." Tiffany said with a small sigh. She had really hoped that someone out there had known at least what was going on and maybe a safe place to go. "This is just like a scary movie turned real. Like the video games except there's no cheats in this world." After hearing what she had just said she let out a small huff of laughter. There's no cheats in this world. Those words kept traveling through her mind.

"I've found that anything that can go wrong, will." Liam shrugged a little. "I think that pretty much everyone else is either zombie food or next up on the menu. I say we find somewhere we can get a few supplies, maybe double check the area for extra survivors." He fell silent, considering the options. "I may even rub myself in dead stuff, maybe that would make me seem less human."
Liam could feel his panic setting in, and took a deep breath in. "Tiffany, tell me something about you. I want to know someone new, in case I never get the chance to again. It doesn't even have to be personal, it could be that you have a dog named Puggle, just say anything to make this feel a little less like death row." He was a little stunned at his own impulsiveness, but whiskey was known to make friends. He had seen in happen a lot recently, at his bar. His mouth worked before his brain, but atleast it wasn't as bad as other times.

Hm, something about me... "Well I had to move in with my best friend Amy when I was 16 because this boy who had lived with me and dad would make fun of my because of my hair color. Although I think Amy's dead now." Tiffany couldn't help the urge to tear up but somehow she did. To think that all this had only happened in a matter of hours. And now, well..she could at any moment. Whether it's from sickness or being infected by these so called zombies. She had wondered if anyone else had survived. Considering the virus had just broken out there's a chance, but then again that fact that this virus could infect this many people in only a couple hours reduced those chances by a lot.

"Tiffany, I wouldn't know what a hard life is like. I had it easy, I always made my own trouble. You had it handed to you, and I think that that's unfair. I could try to find Amy, but I'm going to be honest, she's probably dead. And if she happens to somehow be one of the zombies, I won't hesistate to kill her." He smiled a little, a glint in his eye. "If we die, I promise, it'll be fighting." He drove down an alley, weaving through the narrow backroads of the city, making it to another street that had less of the monsters on it. "I bet some other unfortunate person is out there on the streets, wishing they had just been taken so that all this frickin' pressure would be gone." He sighed. "You gotta envy the mindless, atleast a little. They're dead. They don't have to worry anymore." He chuckled darkly, realizing how morbid he sounded. He grabbed the flask, unscrewing the cap, taking a few swigs, and shoving it back into his bag. "Sorry, that's probably the last type of thing you wanted to hear right now. I have a tendency to screw up social situations, so if I'm near you very long, get used to things like that happening."

"You'll definitely last longer then me. I mean face it, I'm the one with this almost toy-like knife and you've probably got a bunch a weapons or something like that. I've never had to fight like this before, and it's pretty much destroying me. I have no one now, my best friend is most-likely dead, my mother died when I was 14, and I ran away from home at the age 16. Like you said, you had it easy. And I had it handed to me. I couldn't even go to school because all I was to those airheads were the "walking freakshow." Tiffany had just realized how rude yet honest she had been. "I'm sorry. I just think that all of this is getting to my head." She held her head in her hands and breathed silently. If I am to die, I want to die fast, painless, and relaxed. Though I know that's a very slim chance to wish.

He smiled. "Thank God you said that, Tiffany." He laughed a little, feeling better. "I'm not laughing at what happened to you, no, God that's awful, and I'm really sorry about that. I'm just so relieved that you had the guts to say that to my face. It's refreshing." He felt more relaxed, unsure if it was the brutal honesty, or the whiskey. "I have bombs. Don't worry, you won't die. You're a survivor. In your position, I would've jumped off a bridge or hung myself, but you go on and still manage to be you. You'll live, I have a good feeling about that." He smirked, almost able to forget that he was being hunted by walking human cadaver cannibals. Almost.

Tiffany looked out the window. There were these zombie things almost everywhere. "God, what happened to this city." She was frozen with fear. This just didn't seem like the city she had grown up in. Corpses everywhere. Bloody, disfigured, yet still so "alive." While observing the outside area she noticed something or someone moving in a dark corner. It didn't look dead just horrified. Once the vehicle started to approach near the corner she noticed it wasn't human at all. "Oh my god! That's a dog! Liam we have to save the poor thing, he's terrified!"

Liam sighed. 'Leave it to a girl to worry about a dog like that one,' he thought, reluctantly stopping the car. "Tiffany, if any of them come near the car, drive off, okay? I'll save the mutt." He climbed out of the car, grabbing a bottle of moonshine, a dustrag, and his cigarette lighter. He squatted down, seeing the zombies already starting to notice him. "Here, doggy," he called in a soft voice. The animal came over to him, trotting, ever so slowly. As soon as the dog was a few yards away from the zombies, he popped the lid off the moonshine, drinking a little, and ramming the rag into the bottle, making sure the rag got soaked in alcohol. He lit it on fire, and tossed it at the zombies, picking up the dog and his lighter. He turned, and sprinted towards the car, debating whether or not saving the flea-ridden thing had been worth it. He heard panicked moans behind him, and the smell of flesh burning.

Tiffany opened the door so the dog and Liam could get in safely. She had heard the fire and immediately turned around. Had they made it? Then, out of nowhere a disgusting, burnt, figure trotted in through the open door. "No! Leave me alone!!" Tiffany had tried to stab the zombie but it was nowhere near effective. Liam saw it, and his breath caught in his throat. Tiffany was in there. For a moment, reality blurred into the past, when the zombies had eaten his little sister before he had run up to the loft. So cowardly. "Stop!" He screamed, and he grabbed a bottle, smashing the zombie over the head with it, hoping he would turn and come towards them. Liam set the dog down, and it scampered behind him, staying close. She wouldn't die.
Liam knew she wouldn't. That was not an option. He would never be a coward again.
'Does your life mean so little?' he wondered. He knew the answer, in his heart, was yes. Dying for Tiffany would be one good thing to only begin making up for all the other horrible things he had done.
So, Liam used the broken bit of the bottle to cut his finger, wondering if the blood did anything to make him seem more appealing. 'Liam, you idiot, they're zombies, not Dracula,' he chastised himself mentally.

Suddenly the zombie had turned his attention away from her and onto Liam. She scampered for knife that she had dropped while trying to break the zombie's grip. The first time she had failed to grab the knife as it fumbled out of her hands. When she finally had her grip on it, Tiffany wriggled out of the seat she was so tightly pressed into. She jabbed the small knife into the back of the zombie's skull causing it's now lifeless body to drop almost immediately to the ground. "Get in already!" She scooped up the medium sized dog into her arms and jogged to her side of the car waiting for Liam to get in.

Liam let his voice trail off, nervous. His posture was rigid, and his face remained placid and composed. Inside though, he was screaming.

Tiffany didn't even bother to listen to Liam. She just started brushing off the very shaking puppy and singing softly to it. "It's okay honey. You're safe with me now." She smiled and patted the dog's very dirty head. "Well somebody needs a bath huh??" She said in an almost baby-like voice. She didn't know why she wanted to save the dog. There was just something about him or her that just made her so, happy. "Now what should your name be puppy?? Something brave-like because you survived through all of these horrible ugly people." Liam sighed, a little on edge, remembering all the brutal dog attacks he had seen on the street. He'd die before he admitted it, but that dog scared him senseless. Liam did notice, though, that Tiffany seemed to be a lot happier with the animal around.
He would just have to tolerate it.
Liam turned his path, deciding to go to the school. Anyone there was probably very, very stupid, because the hallways were a maze that one could easily become a sitting duck in.
'But,' he reasoned, 'survivors could've gone there, thinking it was some kind of rallying point.' He made up his mind, and started the drive to the school. He hummed 'Blackbird' by the Beatles, finding the melody a little uplifting, although he knew it would take more than the bars of a song to make him happy again.

"A few minutes," Liam said. He was smoking, and it had taken the edge off of not being immortal and having that fact thrown in his face. "I hope that there might be others there. There are three seats in the back, possibly four if the people are particularly tiny. I don't expect it to be just us out here. I would drive you insane after a while." Liam laughed a little, only half joking around. He for some reason, thought of the night his girlfriend left him.
He had been insane, and he knew what his attitude had done to other people. Tiffany wouldn't behave any differently, after a while, she was only a girl, after all. He turned onto a zombie-filled street, turning off his wipers to wipe the creatures' guts and blood off, if the need arose.

"Well," Liam said, turning the car around and driving to a secluded area in the city surrounded by high walls. He opened the gate leading into the area, drove the car in, and then shut the gate. The zombies would have a difficult time breaching the walls, though it was not impossible. "If we're planning on survivng, we need to sleep." It was not negotiable. "I will take first watch. You and Fido can stay in the car. Sleep tight, don't let the zombies bite." He grabbed his messenger bag, turning off the car, locking the door, and then shutting it. He sat up on the hood of the car, hearing the chourous of moans from the other sides of the walls, waiting to find them and feast on them. It was haunting, almost poetic. The stars and moon cast an eerie glow on the scene. Liam smiled a little.

There was no way Tiffany could even think about sleep. Was he crazy?! She just leaned her head towards the window and observed this strange but almost safe area. Tiffany thought about everything that had happened. Tomorrow probably half the worlds population would be gone or infected. She couldn't sleep knowing that. The dog was still fast asleep. She stroked it back and head. I can't take this anymore. The world is nearly gone now. Tears started to roll down Tiffany's face although she wiped them away immediately. She knew there was no time to be crying in a crisis like this one.

Liam heard her awake, moving around inside the car. She was brave and headstrong. Liam paused, smiling a little. It had only been a couple hours, and he was already willing to do almost anything to keep her alive. Tiffany had such a hard life, he knew. He felt selfish for how cowardly and cruel he had been in the past, felt selfish for living so well when she had such a hard time. Liam whispered quietly into the night air, "Perhaps what I'm feeling is compassion?" A chourous of the zombie's cries was his only reply. It had been such a long time since Liam had felt anything close to friendship, much less wanted to feel anything like that. He wasn't sure he knew how. All he knew was that somehow, they'd make it out alive. Again he grinned, thinking to himself. How cliche of you, Liam. How very like the movies. Of course, in the movies, people survive. This is reality, Liam, so don't expect things to get better. Despite this type of thinking, Liam still felt a small surge of hope.

Tiffany could hear the groaning of the dead outside the car. What was it about this virus that developed humans into flesh eating monster so quickly? Had there been many people in the area when the outbreak happened? Or had people just been stupid enough to screw up the experiment. The dog had woken up and stretched it's legs and started to trot over to the empty driver's seat of the car. She curled her legs into a crossed position and just blankly stared into the gate that had been covered in zombies. Well, at least I know it's real now. He doubted he could keep these things on a dog leash or train them to be grocery store clerks. Liam lit a new cigarette, and had a drink. He had to come up with a new plan, something to do, somewhere to be. In his mind he listed places around the city, wondering if they were safe or not. He suddenly had an awful thought. What if it's spread everywhere? He shook his head, not wanting to think.
Things had gone so horribly wrong. Everyone was dead, the school was overrun-no, the city, for God's sake. Liam stopped, deciding instead to focus on what had gone right.
He had saved two living things. He had managed to stay alive. He hadn't used up all his cigarettes yet. He still had whiskey. He realized the thing he dreaded most was running out of whiskey and cigarettes, a forced return to his fragile soberness. He turned to look in the windshield, and saw her looking at the gate. He gave a little wave in her direction, not caring if she saw or not, because he needed to know he wasn't the only one left.

Out of the corner of her eye Tiffany noticed something. Liam waved at her just a little bit. She turned to him and did a slight wave back. She had wished this world had just been some giant Left 4 Dead video game, and you could quit whenever you wanted to. You could have unlimited ammo and crazy awesome guns. But this wasn't the case. This was real life. While gazing back towards the gate Tiffany noticed a familiar figure.

"Amy?!" She said in a low voice. She had opened the passenger side door and strode past Liam hoping he wouldn't try and stop her. Whether her best friend was alive or not she needed to say some sort of farewell. She started towards the zombie infested gate.

Liam watched her quizically. What was she doing?
He went into the car, grabbing his bag, taking it onto the hood of the car with him. He didn't like where this was headed, and if it came to a fight, he'd be ready. "Be careful, Tiffany, we can't be having death wish moments," he called after the girl, secretly pleading with her mentally to turn around and not go near the zombies. Be careful, Tiffany.

She laughed at Liam's remark. "There's no more being careful in this world. Don't you see that? Everything is gone, except for a few lucky people that lasted." She didn't turn around and head for the car she just kept on walking. At first looking at this bloody dis formed figure she thought that couldn't possibly be the beautiful young girl Amy. But as she approached the gate she started to make out the features that had almost been completely destroyed. "Dear god Amy. What has happened to you!" She looked at her palm which still had the small hunting knife in it. She wouldn't let her only friend suffer like this.

"I'm so sorry Amy. I really am." Tiffany took the knife and jabbed it into the zombie's eye. The lifeless body fell to the ground. "At least you can't suffer anymore." She thought about what she had just done. Amy was her only friend and now she was gone. She sat a few feet from the chain-linked fence. I can't believe myself

"Not everything is gone. There's always a reason for something," Liam said. "Don't call it luck, either, call it misfortune." He felt guilty for not being able to lift her spirits. "I think that you should live just to prove to everyone you can. Live for Amy, and all the other people who died without a chance."
Liam was being a hypocrite, he knew. It wasn't all that long ago that he had been trying to end his own life. He wouldn't let that happen to Amy, though. "I blew up all those zombies to save that dog for you. If you are reckless and die, then I will never be able to forgive you for such a waste of perfectly good moonshine."
He tried to smile in the dark, looking at her shadowy figure near the fence, feeling a bit of remorse for dragging her here with him instead of letting her find someplace safe on her own. He certainly wasn't ideal company.

Without saying a word Tiffany strode into the car putting the puppy on her lap and closing the door. "I've found a name for pup! Welcome to my family Amy." She could tell that Liam had tried to lift her spirits. Yeah, she was heartbroken but there was no way she would let that endanger her life. Tiffany wondered how many more hours until sunrise. She was hoping it'd be soon because she'd hate to stay here any longer. The puppy jumped around into her lap like for some reason that power nap had made it so happy. She twirled the puppy around. At least one thing was saved.

It was nearly a whole day gone by already, it felt more like a year had gone by ever since this all happened, getting worse at every hour passing by.

Wandering the deserted street near the school were Lauren and Karis, all tired and stressed. They were looking for a safe hide out but nothing so far... From such a far distance, a horde of zombies came rushing at them. It was scary, real scary. Karis knew that probably only one of them were going to survive so she kicked Lauren in the leg, leaving her more injured than before. "Bitch, only one will survive and that ain't you" Karis warned. The zombies were getting closer and closer as Karis ran away feeling all innocent. Lauren was in trouble, she knew her only way out now was to force herself into the entrance of the shopping mall.

His knife tore through the packaging savagely, ripping the tape that held the box together. Lifting the flaps open, he almost gagged at the raunchy stench of its contents.
The deputy peered around the corner at the gagging teen, his brow cocked in amusement. “Anything good?”
“There ain’t shit here.” Judas retorted, kicking the box over with brute force. He turned to glower at his companion, enraged by this spontaneous misadventure. “What did you think we’d find here?” he demanded, “This is a mall, for Christ’s sake. It’s not like the food court’s going to have canned food or medical supplies.”
“We can’t make our way across town with that hoard coming,” The deputy told him, “We barely have any means of protection.”
“You’ve got a gun,” stated Judas bluntly, “I’ve got my knife. What else do we need?”
“I don’t have the ammunition to waste on a hoard, Jude. And no matter how badass you think you are, you can’t take down all those zombies with just a knife.”
Judas snorted, “Speak for yourself.”
He pushed past the officer and left the restaurant, making his way to the center of the food court. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one, taking a drag as he took in his surroundings. It had only been a day, but you couldn’t tell by looking at it. The mall had been torn apart on the inside. They’d had to clear out a few of those monstrosities on their way, the reanimated corpses of those who’d been trampled to death when people made their escape in a fear-driven flurry. The inside of the shops had been left in devastation, an aftermath of rioting people fueled by horror.
Everything had gone to shit and it had only been a day.
Judas didn’t know how this all had happened. If any reports of it on the news were broadcasted he hadn’t heard it. But he won’t deny that he was kind of thankful the world had gone to hell.
How do you think he ended up with a police officer of all people? He was in the back of the cop car when people went crazy and the dead started roaming the streets. That deputy back there was taking him to the station. Then, suddenly the radio frequency went dead and the guy nearly killed them both trying to fix it. He’d almost hit a person, but upon further recollection Judas remembered it to be one of those zombie things. They ended up in a ditch on the side of the road. Luckily the impact beheaded the thing or they would’ve had that to deal with.
Aimless walking and reluctant trust—on the deputy’s part—resulted in the two of them working together to find some shelter or some help. But everyone was looking for help.
It’s amazing how a long walk down a stretch of highway can bring you closer to the last person you’d want to connect with. The deputy certainly had formed a different opinion of Judas than he’d first had. He’d thought of him as a lowlife delinquent with a hefty string of petty theft. For a long while the kid just acted like a complete dick but he was beginning to look past that. Judas, on the other hand, was still on the fence about this guy. He contemplated just ditching him quite a few times but, as the cop said, he couldn’t fight of a group of those things with just a hunting knife no matter how badass he was.

Eventually, after the deputy scourged the whole food court for any nonperishable items, Judas walked towards the front entrance of the mall. Daylight was slowly dwindling away and that hoard was growing ever closer. It made him on edge thinking about it, his mind swaying towards pessimistic as he imagined how screwed they’d both be if those geeks somehow busted their way through.
He didn’t realize how paranoid he was making himself until a hand grasped his shoulder. Judas jumped back and turned, his knife at the deputy’s throat. Silence strung out between them as Judas calmed down his heavy breathing and lowered the weapon. He tucked it into his belt and turned away, his head held high as he tried to conceal his embarrassment.
There was a pregnant and awkward pause between the two of them until the deputy asked, “You got a family outside these walls, kid?”
Oh great, Judas growled inwardly, small talk. “No. You?”
“A wife and a son.” He responded, his voice laden in nostalgic happiness and worry, “He’s not much younger than you, my boy is. Reminds me of you in a way.”
“You’ve been raisin’ him wrong then.” Judas quipped.
The deputy let out a warm chuckle as his eyes drifted out towards the outside. His gaze suddenly fell on a person in the parking lot just outside the door they’d barricaded. His laughter fell short as he leaned across the tipped over vending machine to get a closer look. It was a girl. A high school girl from the look of it. And she was hurt. He couldn’t tell how badly from here but her leg was definitely part of the problem.
Judas looked at his companion from the corners of his eyes, his gaze following that of the deputy’s and falling on the wounded girl in the parking lot. His face dropped, “Don’t even think about it.”
The deputy sprang into motion, moving to the end of the vending machine to clear the door. “Come help me with this.” He commanded without looking up to meet Judas’s frazzled stare.
“We don’t know this girl! What if she’s turned?”
“Do you see that hoard coming into the lot?” The deputy hollered, dropping what he’d managed to lift to gesture to the outside, “If she is alive then they’ll tear her apart.”
“Good! That’ll give us plenty of time to get the hell out of here!”
“I won’t let an innocent little girl die!”
“We can’t afford that luxury!” Judas argued. “Like you said, we don’t have any means of protecting ourselves. What if the hoard gets too close and we end up dying just because you want to stick your neck out for some girl you don’t even know?”
The deputy groaned, rolling his eyes dramatically as he wielded his pistol, pressing the barrel into Judas’s forehead. “My job is to protect and serve, boy.” He enunciated in a threatening tone, “Let me do my job and help me unblock this door.”
They engaged in a silent battle of will, glaring at each other until one of them finally gave in. It was Judas. He relented, cursing under his breath, heaving the vending machine up vertically again with the deputy’s help. The officer reached for the door but Judas held him back with a firm grip on his arm.
“Give me your gun.” Judas told him, his face composed as he was met with the deputy’s disconcerted expression. “I’ll cover you while you bring the girl inside.”
He reluctantly obliged, handing over his only means of protection to a kid he could barely trust. Judas cocked back the hammer and followed the deputy out, jogging behind as he sprinted to the girl’s aid. The hoard was approaching fast but he wouldn’t waste bullets when they were far enough away. He glanced down at the girl as the officer cradled her in his arms. She was nearly unconscious, with bruises and open wounds from having dragged herself all the way here. Judas shook his head, turning his focus back on the oppressing hoard, aiming at the walking corpse at the front.
“What’s your name, darling?” The deputy whispered, barely audible under the groans and moans of the undead.
The girl shifted weakly, “L-Lauren…”
“Ugh…hey, guy…?” Judas interjected, his voice wavering in anxiety as the hoard traveled closer faster than he’d originally anticipated.
“We’re going to get you inside, Lauren. Don’t worry.” The deputy insured her, lifting the girl up bridal style in his arms.
“Can we hurry this along please?!” Judas shouted, firing off two bullets into the heads of the two corpses leading the hoard. The deputy’s head snapped up as the zombies broke out into a run, screeching and roaring in bloodthirsty hunger. The cop ran towards the door, girl in tow, while Judas fired off shots left and right, never wasting a bullet.
“Judas!”
Judas turned at the sound of his name to see the deputy struggling to open the door. The distance between them and the zombies was lessening considerably as seconds ticked by. Judas slung his attention back to the hoard, crying out when he was met with a zombie face to face, its breath reeking of guts and rotten flesh. He wacked it upside the head and made a beeline for the door, opening it and launching himself inside. The deputy followed shortly after, handing Lauren off to Judas as he felt the undead beasts grabbing him by the back of his shirt.
The sound of his agonizing cry tore through the empty air of the mall as the zombie gnawed at his neck. Judas quickly set Lauren down a considerable distance away and rushed for the door, taking out the geek and running up to shut the door behind the deputy. Weakly and bleeding profusely, the deputy made his way to the opposite side of the vending machine.
“Kid! Move!” he hollered, panting heavily. Judas jumped out of the way and the vending machine came crashing down, blocking the front door.
Judas looked back at them, scratching at the glass door and pounding away, adrenaline surging through his veins. That door wouldn’t hold them for long, he realized. He looked to the deputy for guidance and his gut clenched at the sight of the man before him. He was laid back on the floor, a pool of blood staining the tacky carpet beneath him as the gaping wound pulsated. Judas knelt beside him, reaching up with a shaky hand in an attempt to stop the bleeding. The deputy stopped him.
“Don’t bother, Jude. I’m not coming back from this.” He told him, his voice tired as tears ran down his pallid cheeks.
“What do I do?”
The deputy looked over to the girl a few feet away, “Get her to safety.” He managed, his gaze finding Judas’s once more. “Take the girl and haul yourself in a store and hide. Don’t come out until they’ve cleared out of here. Take my bag, it’s got a first aid kit in there and the supplies we found at the gas station a while back. Don’t let that girl die.”
Judas faltered a moment but nodded nonetheless. He stood, pointing the gun at the deputy’s head. He didn’t say anything as he pulled the trigger, killing the man with mercy.
The gunshot alerted the undead outside, making their efforts all the more determined. Judas looked at them in utter disgust, walking away with the gun tucked into his belt. He rushed into the food court and grabbed the bag before coming back for the girl, heaving her up in his arms the way the deputy had carried her. Jogging swiftly, he found a bookstore towards the back exit of the mall. He knew he couldn’t make it outside lugging this girl around. So he opted for the store.
Judas took the girl inside, laying her and the bag down behind the counter. Moving quick in consideration for time, he knocked over bookshelves and piled them up strategically in front of the doors and windows. There was an emergency exit at the rear end of the store they could run out of just in case, of that he made certain.
Letting out a sigh, Judas fell to the ground on his rear, leaning up against the barricade. With a shaking hand he pulled out another cigarette.

"Amy." Liam smiled, watching her hold the puppy. "I like it." For a moment, seeing Tiffany so lost in the dog, he could forget his terror and just be happy to see something so normal, so average. "She'd be proud," Liam whispered, half smiling. He tossed his things lazily in the bag, stomping out his cigarette on the concrete. He opened the car door, throwing the bag in as well. "Where do you suggest we go now, Tiffany? We could try and stay here, I just am not so sure that the fence will hold them off forever. And food, and stuff, is probably needed." Liam's mind was already once again whirling through all the possible scenarios.

The nicotine did its job, soothing the beating heart that threatened to burst out of his chest. Soon his shaking hands began to settle, resulting in a minor tremor as he ran his fingers through his unruly hair. Judas brought the vice to his lips, taking another long drag and exhaling a noxious cloud of fumes into the stuffy air. The shop reeked of old books and the scent of freshly published bindings. He found no solace in this smell. He was never one for reading books, even when he was obligated to. He lightly considered how much better he'd be if he'd shacked up somewhere with more suitable forms of entertainment. Perhaps a GameStop so he could play Left 4 Dead or something of the like. He chuckled darkly at the thought.

Judas hated this. Down time like this often spurred unwelcome thoughts, unwanted feelings. Like the feeling of guilt. His mind went on a rampage, giving him any different scenario that would've saved the deputy. His thoughts went so far as to say it should've been him. That man had a family, a wife and child that would never see him again. Judas had no one. He could fall of the face of the earth and no one would care, he wouldn't be missed. But the deputy...the deputy would be missed. Judas ashed beside himself, taking another long drag as he played over what had just happened like a movie in his head.

He'd like to give himself some sort of credit but his pride wouldn't allow it. Sure he'd taken out a bunch of them back there but not the one that matter. There was a pack of them, and they were so close knit that even someone with the worst aim could've hit at least two of them. He should've shot the one that nearly had him, Judas told himself. It was that same geek that got hold of the deputy. If he'd been thinking clearly maybe the deputy would still be alive. He was in no way a hero.

Hell, he wanted to leave that girl.

He glanced over to the counter, almost relieved that he couldn't see her huddled up back there. Judas wasn't about to check on her, not right now. Not when he was belittling both himself and the deputy for taking such stupid, drastic actions. If only that man hadn't have been so damn chivalrous. If he would've left that girl be he'd still be here. If Judas had fought harder.... Would the deputy have shot him? If he had none of them would've made it out. But surely the man had thought that through. Surely he'd known that Judas would've relented eventually. The man wasn't the brightest cop he'd ever come across but he certainly wasn't far off.

Judas grunted and gripped his knife at his belt, stabbing it into the back of one of the toppled over bookshelves. All this mulling over 'what if' was starting to piss him off. No use with thinking what could've been, he had to think of what to do next.

As he heard the girl let out a soft moan behind the counter, Judas found himself completely unsure...

"Karis, we all have to pull our weight around here." He glared at Karis. "You either get off your ass and get your hands dirty, or you don't stay in this car." He smiled at her, the smile he used when kicking out drunk patrons. "You wouldn't have to go home, but you can't stay here. And another thing, Amy has double the brains you have, obviously. She works harder than you ever would, Barbie."
He flinched, knowing he was being cruel, but not really caring. He didn't feel mad: in fact, he felt nothing in particular at all.

Tiffany pulled up to a very tiny run-down convenient store. She put Amy down on the driver's seat and closed the door behind her. She put her small knife into the back pocket of her pants. She then started towards the store.

Karis

Karis, got out of the car with a worried look on her face. "Well who's gonna protect me?! I'm helpless! I have no weapons or defense skills." Karis hated being ignored. She wanted all the attention she could get and she definitely use some protection from the guys. She strolled up past Tiffany bumping into her on her way forward. "Awh, whoops sorry." She said in a obviously sarcastic tone.
Tiffany Cooper

Tiffany was pushed out of the way by Karis just trying to show off. "You're not helping yourself by going ahead of me. I'm the one with a weapon. And from what I heard, you don't have one." She let Karis walk ahead of her. Tiffany didn't bother. It was Karis's funeral.

Liam groaned. "Karis, if you go any farther, you really are dumber than the dog. You know you are potentially risking our lives, and yours? And if you got us into trouble, or died, I'd make sure that when I killed you for the second time as a zombie, it'd be painful."
Liam strapped his messenger bag across his body, climbing out of the car, crossing his arms. Zack remained inside, and he shut the doors, letting the kid sleep. He owed him that much, since he had almost killed him earlier.

Tiffany noticed that Karis had stopped in her tracks. She had been waiting for the rest of them to catch up. Tiffany caught up to Karis and waited for Liam. She glanced over to Karis. She had been giving her a deathly stare. "I don't know what your problem is. I've never done anything to you." Tiffany turned away and rolled her eyes.

Karis

"Nothing is wrong with me. I just don't exactly like you. I mean, blue hair? You look like an avatar!" Karis started to laugh at herself. She loved thinking she was the princess and everyone had to bow down to her. "I don't even know how these guys could look at you, instead of me! I mean, look at me." She walked the opposite direction of Tiffany staring down at her designer shoes.

Liam overheard, and clenched his jaw. "Karis, the thing is, Tiffany is brave, smart, and unique. She's leagues above anything you will ever be. I called you Barbie because you have a plastic attitude and there's thousands of others exactly like you. So shut up. You aren't helping anyone or anything."
Liam radiated anger, and walked a few feet ahead of the girls. "We have zombies on our list of enemies, Karis. Do I need to add you?"
He looked back at them, turning, waiting for them to say when they went inside.

Tiffany smiled. No one had ever stood up for her like that except Amy. She'd known she was a freak but didn't take it as a defense. She started into the pharmacy brushing past Liam. The store had been really corrupted. Aisle's were tipped over and the stocks had fallen out. "God this place is a wreck!"

Karis

Karis rolled her eyes at the comments. She didn't care what other people thought. She was beautiful and she knew it. As long as she got some sort of attention she was completely fine. She entered the store in disgust. "Ew, people actually shopped here? My part-time model job payed for my delicious food!" She smiled showing her perfectly white teeth.

Tiffany Cooper

Tiffany hated listening to Karis's comments. All she did was complain, flirt, complain, flirt. "Maybe people shopped here because they were normal human beings. Not professional's models."

Liam just shook his head at the girls. "Look for any food or blankets or weapons. Canned foods, things that will keep." Liam started digging through the ransacked pharmacy aisles. He knew that anything at all would be better than nothing.
He ignored the conflict between Karis and Tiffany for a moment, wondering if all girls stirred up trouble like that, or if it was just the ones around him. He frowned, picking up a first aid kit. Shrugging, he threw it in his bag. I can find a use for it.
As he dug through the stuff, he wondered why he felt so protective of Tiffany. She hadn't done anything particularly out of the ordinary, he supposed. He just wasn't sure.
Girls. Always such trouble. He sighed and kept looking for anything of use.

Tiffany walked around the fallen down aisles finding some canned food here and there. She always grabbed some water which was oddly warm. Guess the electricity had also gone out. She tried best to find blankets. Tiffany found one that was particularly small. Almost the size of baby. She took it just in case. Maybe it would come in handy for Amy. While looking Tiffany heard a familiar groaning noise behind her. She jerked around quickly only to see a skinny figure shambling after her. She let out a small yelp and tried to draw her knife out. Once she a hold of it the zombie was a few inches away. Tiffany kicked one of it's legs only for it to fall down and start crawling at her.

"Oh har har." She said teasing him. Tiffany finally retrieved her knife stabbing the zombie between the eyes. She got up and dusted her clothes off. She started laughing when she saw Liam holding the can of hairspray. "And how exactly were you going to kill a zombie with hairspray? Spray it to death?!" Tiffany said smiling and then trotting off to a different area of the store to find supplies.

Karis

Karis overheard Tiffany and Liam's conversation. She smirked at the fact that Tiffany was practically pinned by a skin and bones zombie. She ran to the center of the pharmacy. "Oh gosh what happened? Oh Tiffany you poor girl! You almost died!" Karis glared over Tiffany's way with smirk on her face. She walked away whispering to herself. "Too bad you didn't."

"It's flammable!" Liam called, laughing a little. He returned to looking for supplies as well, a little shaky from having such a close call. He would have to be more careful. She sat down by the entrance and waited to see if Liam or Karis could find anything. She looked down at her lap and saw everything she had scavenged. Tiffany had done a pretty decent job collecting items. At least this would keep them on top of their game for a few more days.

Liam sighed, grabbing candy bars for food. He walked to the front of the store slowly, overlooking all the supplies he had gathered. It wasn't much, but it was enough. Now all he needed was a place to stay and defend.
Perhaps he should leave the city. He shook his head. No, that'd be dumb, it's bound to be the same everywhere. He saw Tiffany at the entrance, and he walked over to her. "Any luck?" he asked.

Somewhere that is a base, or something close to that." He from Tiffany to the ceiling, thinking, going through all the possibilities. "We could go back to where we were, but we'd have to kill a bunch of those things to get inside." He waited for Tiffany's input, knowing she would probably have something to contribute.

Liam scanned the road before him. He was looking for anywhere different. He turned sharply on a windy road that looked like it hadn't been well travelled. He had given up on the radio, and slid a CD in the car. It was some type of indie rock, and Liam was murmuring the lyrics under his breath as he drove. He seemed more relaxed somehow, unfazed by the zombies. Liam looked vunerable, much like a child, as well.

He ignored the girls, focused on other things. With a screech of his tires, Liam pulled into the parking lot of some apartments. Zombies walked around outside, although Liam knew the insides would be empty. "We have to kill them, and then we can stay here." He pointed to the fence surrounding the buildings. "This place will have to do. After we kill all of the zombies." Liam counted in his head. "There's about 5. I say we get this over with." Zombies hadn't noticed them yet, giving them a few moments to prepare. Liam pulled out his rags, alcohol, and his lighter. "Pick what you're doing quickly, I would prefer to not be eaten."

Tiffany thought about the situation they were getting into strategically. She was trying to think of a way to kill these zombies without attracting more. Liam looked like he was going to throw a Molotov, Karis was obviously going to do nothing that would risk her life and Zack was still fast asleep. All she had was her hunting knife. "Maybe, if I distract them that'll give you time to throw the Molotov and kill them quickly. And then we can all try to get inside safely."

She thought the least she could do for them was buy them time. "So if I go out first and make some type of noise they'll be attracted over to my area. Then Liam you light the Molotov." Tiffany explained with a somewhat worried look on her face.

He punched the mirror, shattering it, letting the fragments land on the floor with tiny tinkling noises. Blood ran freely from his knuckles, but he didn't regret his actions.
All he had done was preserve his sanity. He resumed smoking.

Tiffany heard the shatter causing her to jump a bit. He wants space so I'll give him space. Tiffany rubbed her eyes and laid back down on her bed. Amy had gotten up recently and was trotting around the room exploring. She brushed her bright blue hair with her fingers and stared at the non-moving ceiling fan. She thought about Amy, and her dad, and her mom and all the people she'd lost. Tiffany didn't know whether her dad was dead or alive but if he was he wouldn't set out to look. He probably wouldn't care anyways.

Liam walked back into the room he shared with Zack. "So, Zack, I have mommy issues. What's wrong with you?" He smoked, again sitting down on the bed, the sting from his hands the only feeling he had at the moment. He got his moonshine out, and poured a little over his wound, wincing. The last thing he needed was an infection, though, so he fought through the pain. The sting means it's working, Liam.
He looked up again at the kid, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, expectant. "I'm waiting."

Tiffany was bored waiting for everyone to get settled. So she gathered her stuff and Amy and headed for the car. She didn't care how long she would have to wait. Tiffany got there avoiding all zombies possible. None of them noticed her which was good. She quietly jumped into the passenger's seat put Amy in the backseat and leaned back. It had to be at least around 6 or 7 by now. The darkness started fading and a gray tint started to flood into the sky. Clouds. No rain please.

"Well, kiddo, we've all been there." He pulled out a bottle of moonshine and a pack of cigarettes, offering it to the kid.
He felt a sense of kinship towards him, he understood what it was like to be depressed, to be empty. "Take what you want, it's not like the cops are gonna be tearing down the door charging me for giving you this stuff." He added after a moment, "It does help for a while, though."
The boy seemed so small and frail, so breakable. Liam kind of liked that about him, but knew that in their current position that he would not stay that way.
Time hardens everyone.

Liam smiled at the kid, again ruffling his hair. "We can roll in self-pity, depression, and lately the apocolypse together, kiddo! Isn't that funtastic?"
Liam leaned back against the wall, sighing.

Tiffany blew the bangs out of her face. She had been in the car for at least 15 minutes. She didn't like being alone but it was peaceful. Tiffany felt the urge to just go out and explore the area but knew that wouldn't be the safest thing to do without a proper weapon. She wondered what Karis and the guys were doing. But at least she could enjoy the peace and quiet for a little. She just hoped not uninvited guests tried to hop in with her.

Thinking about how to kill time, Tiffany exited the car leaving everything but her knife behind. Maybe I can find a few things before we head out. She tried her best to avoid most zombies only having to kill a few that crossed her path which was fairly easy. Tiffany traveled to the back side of the apartment complex. She found nothing but trash. Tiffany knew that wasn't going to help the group. She went through the back door leading to the "lobby" of the building. It was a complete bloody mess. Oh god what happened in here.

There was a horrible stench coming from the room. Dead bodies laid on the floor completely still. Tiffany exited as fast as she could. She didn't want to be in one of those situations where the zombies magically came to life and attack you.

Liam sighed, watching the kid smoke. He dumped his bag out on the bed, only putting the alcohol, rags, and cigarettes back in. He left the food and extra lighters he had gathered in a pile on the bed. He grabbed a candybar, peeling the wrapper off.

He put it in his mouth, and smacked as he chewed. It had been such a long time since he had candy, this was amazing to him.

Oddly enough, it had been quiet in the girl's room. Weren't they supposed to be screaming and squealing and having pillow fights? Oh, yeah. The apocolypse isn't a sleepover.

Tiffany walked back to the apartment she was staying in, totally forgetting about what she had left in the car. When she entered the room Karis was sitting there staring out the window. "What were you doing?" Karis said to Tiffany suspiciously. "Nothing, just looking for supplies." Karis rolled her eyes and went back to look out the window. Somebody didn't get enough beauty sleep I see. Tiffany thought to herself with a smirk. "Did the guys come out of their sleeping chambers yet?" Tiffany asked. "Um, no. And why you care?" Karis was the one person no one wanted to pick a fight with.

"Sorry, we just wanted to relax." He drew out the word relax and made it sound as if the word had a million letters. He was smoking again. "Where were you? You smell like the outside." Liam looked at her, now curious.

Liam said those words, feeling no regret or remorse. He spoke them as a solemn promise. He didn't know how the boy felt about him now, but he was so glad to not be alone. He turned, stumbling inside, collapsing on the bed, still crying. He was broken.

Tiffany finally found a semi-safe place to stay. It wasn't her ideal luxury hideout, but it was enough. She put Amy in her lap and sat with her back against the wall. She had cleared the room from any inhuman monsters that happened to stay here with her. Luckily, Tiffany had taken a couple cans of non-perishable food items with her. I guess this will have to do for now. Suddenly a cold chill ran down Tiffany's back. Moaning from zombies could be clearly heard from her spot inside the building and it happened to be very close. She put Amy under her shirt hoping she wouldn't bark or make any noise. It sounded like a hoard of them! Then, Tiffany went into panic mode. She wanted to curl up and crawl out of her own skin. Tiffany put her hair up with a hair tie she'd always kept on her wrist. There was no way getting into the shopping mall without fighting the zombies. Of course she couldn't do that because she didn't have a gun or any magical powers. She snuck around to the side of the building trying to find an entrance in. No luck.

Come on, just do it already! Zack's face began to turn a deeper shade of red. On the count of three...one...two...three!
The boy took a deep breath and walked up to Liam. He stared up into his eyes for a second, then, he pressed his lips up to Liam's. Zack had to stand on his toes. He was a bit embarrassed, but liked the feeling of Liam's soft lips on his.

Liam felt shock, first of all.

What the hell, kiddo?

For some reason, he didn't move away, but he didn't kiss back either. He was frozen in place, either in fear, bewilderment, or..perhaps love?

Liam broke away finally, gasping a little. "That was unexpected, kiddo. Very unexpected." Liam smoothed his shirt. "Well, um, let's go back to see if Karis is alive, that's important." Liam put his arm around the kid's shoulders again, and started talking about random things to fill the silence.

He was no longer cold.

Karis looked out the window still locked up in the apartment. She saw all the action that occurred out there between Zack and Liam. She was shocked, more like petrified.

If this boy is going to steal my man then he will pay for it!

She was happy that Tiffany had left the two men for her to play with but she was really worried in case she found Lauren. She knew that Tiffany was heading the way that she left Lauren. She probably is already dead, if not then Lauren better not say a word she thought to herself while slightly smiling in a dark way.

"Lauren... Lauren... Lauren, if only you weren't there, i wouldn't have needed to kill you" she spoke out to herself not knowing that Lauren had probably survived it.

Lauren grimaced at her meek attempt to move her wounded leg. She hissed, her body going limp on the floor compliantly as she slowly regained consciousness. She hurt. A lot. Her muscles were screaming as if she'd been trampled, tossed around, drug through a meat grinder. Reluctantly, she opened her eyes. It was dark. All she could make out of her surroundings were solid shadows of what she assumed was a cash register, a counter, and a...

"Oh good, you're awake."

Despite the pain in her spine, she sat up immediately-wincing only slightly considering the immense soreness. She looked up at the figure above her, leaning over the counter. As her eyes adjusted to the dark she came to realize that the figure was a man, a young man not profoundly older than herself. His face was dimly lit up by the amber glow of the cigarette between his thin lips. She stared at him for a long time, trying to remember. She'd heard his voice before but she hadn't previously been able to put a face to it. Now that she could, she found herself confused. This was, no doubt, apparent in the way she held her face. The man's brow cocked in amusement as he smirked, walking around the counter to hit the switch on the wall to her right.

A bulb above flickered on, lighting a small portion of the book store. Lauren looked around and could tell that much from where she was on the ground behind the counter. The smell of books, in retrospect she should've been able to pick up on that. It must've been the blood. She can smell blood. But whose?

Shaking her head, she managed to look up at the man again and ask, "Where am I?"

His head cocked as well. Lauren watched in annoyance as he made a big show of taking the vice from his mouth and ashing precariously, his arms opening to showcase the setting. "This? This is a bookstore. You're at the mall."

Lauren glowered at him, "Yeah, I got that. Thanks."

"Then don't ask questions you know the answer to, sweetheart, it's not polite." the man gave her a sardonic smile before kneeling before her, grasping her ankle and turning her leg. Lauren winced, flinching when the man locked gazes with her immediately. "It feels swollen, probably sprained." he stated, his voice muffled by the cigarette caught between his teeth. "Lucky for you I have something for that."

Lauren watched as he leaned over a duffle bag, pulling out a large first aid kit. He took another long drag of the cigarette, letting out the noxious fumes in her direction when he turned back to her leg. Lauren coughed, "Yeah, speaking of 'not polite', do you mind putting that thing out? It's killing me."

"There're far worse things out there that can kill you, I assure you." he retorted, putting out the cancer stick on the floor beside him nonetheless. He picked up an alcoholic cleansing pad and let it hover over an open gash in her leg. "This'll sting." he told her before he began scrubbing away the dirt from the cut. Lauren winced, hissing as her body tensed. The man grabbed her calf to still her as he went about cleaning the rest of her wounds.

"Who are you, anyway?" Lauren asked, her voice pained.

"Judas."

"Judas?" Lauren scoffed, "I'm supposed to believe that's your real name?"

Judas shrugged, tossing the used pads to the side as he proceeded to put band-aids on her minor cuts. "I don't really give a damn if you buy it or not"

Silence fell between them as he finished patching her up, wrapping up her ankle with an ACE bandage in the process. Lauren admitted it felt a lot better. The slight pressure on her screaming tendons eased up considerably and she was more than a little thankful for that. She looked up and was caught off guard when she found him starring at her, more so her forearm. She held it out in front of her and was met with a large bleeding laceration, visible even through the ripped sleeve of her school uniform blazer. Before she had time to comment, Judas had grabbed her wrist and brought it closer for further inspection. He pushed her sleeve up, pulling at the skin to see the depth of the wound and scowling when he realized how bad it was. He redirected the scowl up to Lauren, who then shrugged innocently.

"I did jump out of a window." she replied.

Judas huffed, reaching for more alcohol pads. "Lucky your leg isn't worse off. I'd splint it but we don't have that luxury." he pulled out a needle and thread from the kit and Lauren's eyes bulged.

"What are you going to do with that?"

"Well I'm not going to fix your sleeve." Judas deadpanned, tugging her arm closer.

Lauren yanked it back, hugging it to her chest defensively, "You are not sewing me up like some doll!" she retorted, "Do you even know what you're doing?!"

Judas rolled his eyes, "Stop being such a pussy, dollface. And don't hold it up to you like that, you'll get it infected!" He snapped. A pregnant pause went on as they glared at each other. Finally logic won over Lauren and she slowly pulled her arm away from her filthy clothes, keeping it at a distance from Judas so he'd still get the idea. He rolled his eyes at that, "Look, I may not have a medical degree but I've had to suture a few cuts back in my day. You can either trust me and get it fixed now or you can let it get infected to the point of amputation, it's your choice."

Lauren took a withering look at her arm, doubtful it could be that serious. But still...with zombies walking around anything is possible and one can never be too careful. She eventually gave in and shoved her arm in Judas's direction, clenching her eyes shut and setting her jaw, getting ready for the pain.

Judas pulled out his lighter and held the needle over the flame until it turned bright red from the heat. As the needle cooled down a bit he grasped her arm by the elbow, readying himself at the wound. "I'm going to need you to stay perfectly still for this, alright? Can you do that?" Lauren opened her eyes and shut them immediately when she saw the needle, nodding her head, her teeth biting hard into her lip in anticipation. "No, don't do that, you might do something stupid like bite through. Grab my shoulder if you need something to hold onto, just don't bite down."

Lauren sighed, letting out an unsteady breath. She couldn't bring herself to look him in the eyes. She sat up, leaning into him as he sat on her left side holding her wounded arm. She leaned into him, hiding her face in the crook of his neck and gripping his other shoulder with her right hand. Judas didn't ask if she was ready. She'd probably flinch if she knew it was coming. He grasped her wrist and pinned it across his lap, leaving the wound open and facing him. He jabbed the needle into her flesh and made quick work on stitching her up. Lauren's gut did a back flip at the agonizing pain. She bit into his shoulder in an attempt to hide her strangled cry, tensing up and clawing into her grip to prevent herself from writhing. Judas didn't seem fazed and soon he cauterized the stitches, flinching only then when she increased her painful hold.

He was done. Judas let her arm go and gently pulled her off of him, moving over to the duffle bag for something cold. He found a bottle of water, room temperature. It wasn't much but it would do. He gently poured some of it onto her red hot flesh, calming down the flaring heat and at least some of the sting. Lauren sat there, holding her arm, just looking at it before Judas quickly wrapped it in gauze. She cradled it to her chest again, speechless as she slowly got over the mild shock. Judas stood, rubbing his shoulder and glancing at the bleeding bite mark.

"So you aren't all bark and no bite," He chuckled, trying to make light of the situation. "Good. You'll need it."

Lauren stood, carefully putting weight on her ankle and wincing, wiping away tears she hadn’t known she’d shed. “I’m not going out there.”

“You don’t have much of a choice. There’s a hoard coming in and if we want to make it out of here alive we’re going to need to leave...now..."

Lauren looked around as Judas put everything haphazardly in the bag. Where was her bag? She limped from behind the counter and scanned the floor but couldn't see any sign of it. "Where's my bag?"

"What bag?" Judas groaned.

"My school bag," she retorted, bowing up at him a bit.

Judas could barely conceal his smile. She wasn't intimidating at all. It was like a kitten trying to be a lion, it was adorable if anything. He couldn't bring himself to respond without laughing so for her sake he simply pointed. It was in a heap up against the counter where Judas had tossed it before laying her down behind the counter. She would've been uncomfortable laying on it. As she bent down to pick it up, Judas shook his head, his smile leaving his face. It was unusual for him to be that considerate. He figured he'd better knock it off before it puts him in a bad spot.

Lauren stood, her book bag strapped to her back. It was nostalgic in a way. It brought a familiar feeling, as if she was back at school on an ordinary day. But she wasn't and she couldn't afford to think like that anymore. A loud thud brought her attention back, snapping her out of her reverie. She turned quick to see Judas moving a bunch of bookshelves out of the way, being only slightly stealthy about it. She smirked, thinking to herself that one could only try and muffle ones noises so much when doing so much heavy lifting.

"You know you could help," Judas grunted, laying one of the heavier ones down before turning his attention to her, "Instead of marveling at my strength."

"You could hardly call it 'marveling'." Lauren quipped, making her way over. "What do you need?"

"Nothing now, useless." Judas heaved out a breath, slinging the duffle bag over his shoulder and bringing out his knife. "I've moved enough for us to sneak through the door. But listen-..." he paused, turning to her and leaning closer to look her directly in the eyes, "There are a few stragglers out there walking around so I want you to stick close to me. There's an exit a couple of stores away that we'll be able to get to but you need to be quiet. Understand?" Lauren nodded. "I'll go out first and see if I can pick off a few. Wait here."

Judas slipped through the tiny break in the barricade and Lauren watched from the inside as he crouched down in front of the store. There were about a dozen on their part of the mall, all moving about aimlessly. Lauren stiffened, silencing herself immediately, her eyes flickering from Judas to the scattered group. Judas snuck up behind one, getting dangerously close before he plunged his knife into the back of it's neck, severing the spinal cord. He stood quickly, moving silently away as its body fell. It alerted none of them and he managed to take another one out using the same method.

This time however, when Judas moved to his immediate right, he bumped right into one of them. He stood, putting his arms up in defense, grappling with the beast. Lauren glanced over in horror as the struggle caught the attention of about six or seven of them. They made their way over quickly, catching the scent of a living human being and practically salivating from it. She quickly slipped through the barricade, reaching into her pack. Judas stabbed the creature in its eye socket, growling in victory as the thing went limp in his grasp. He pushed it off, smiling down at it.

"Judas move!" Lauren hollered and he looked over to his right.

The small group was practically rushing for him. He stilled, looking for Lauren, only to see her at the right of the group with something in her hand. "What the fuck are you doing!?" he called to her.

In that moment, she unleashed something into the crowd and took off towards him. Judas watched as a greenish-yellow gas flooded the crowd, making them stop dead in a growling gnashing mess of confusion. They'd halted so instantaneously a few tripped over themselves and now they were just a fumbling mess of confused hunger. Judas laughed as, in their disorientation, they began to gnaw on each other. But his amusement was short-lived.

Lauren grabbed his hand and they ran towards the exit door. Judas intertwined their fingers and dashed forward, laughing to himself, "Just what the hell do you have in there, kitten?"

Lauren glared at him at the sound of the pet name and shook her head, letting it go for now. "My father's a scientist." she told him, as if that would sum it all up.

Judas chuckled, bursting through the back door with Lauren at his side. He dropped her hand, turning to shove a two by four through the heavy-duty door handles. He backed away, laughing from pure adrenaline before looking over at Lauren. "You alright?" he asked her, motioning to her ankle with her bloody knife.

She nodded, smiling faintly, letting out a relieved sigh. Judas shook his head, grinning from ear to ear. His smile dropped completely as he saw a figure coming towards them. He quickly drew his pistol and put himself in front of Lauren, aiming at the intruder.

She glanced over at Judas and immediately stood in front of him, her face right in front of the barrel.

She'd gotten the desired reaction. He immediately put the gun down, "What the fuck, Kitten!? Get out of the way!"

"That is a person Judas. A human being just like us! You can't just kill her!" Lauren hollered.

"Yeah? Watch me." He pulled the gun up again but Lauren once more stood in his way. He tried moving his aim but Lauren wouldn't falter. Finally he gave up, putting it in his holster with a grievance before glaring down at her. He got right in her face and muttered through clenched teeth, "What the hell are you doing? Don't tell me you want to help this chick."

Lauren's face was stern and unwavering, "She needs our help."

Judas scoffed, letting out a sardonic laugh, "She needs our help? In case you didn't notice, dollface, we need help! We just narrowly escaped that hoard and now you want to help some stranger? We don't know this girl! That's two more mouths to feed that I can't afford. And there's a dog! Who's to say that mutt won't put us in danger by making noise or-..." he faltered, "or something."

"We can handle it," Lauren insisted. "There's nothing wrong with letting more people in. She can help. Maybe she has guns, more ammunition. Maybe her dog can hunt"

Judas just gave her a look that perfectly captured his utter annoyance and disbelief at her audacity. "I don't give a damn what she has," Judas snapped finally , "I promised to protect you! Not any wandering damsel I come across. I know where we can get weapons if necessary. She is not necessary."

Something inside of Judas snapped. Lauren knew it as soon as his hold on her vanished completely. She only had a second to catch a glimpse of the pure, unbridled rage inside those bright blue eyes before he turned around and went at it, pulling his knife from his belt in the process.

"Listen here you little-...!"

Lauren stepped in front of him, holding him back as she took a hard grasp on his shoulders. "Judas stop!" she hollered, wincing in pain from the wound in her arm that burned at the struggle.

Judas backed up, his fists clenched as he jumped at the woman again. Lauren caught him once more, legitimately strugging though he let her hold him back as he went on a verbal rampage, "Try it bitch see if I don't leave your sorry ass here!"

"Judas!" Lauren yelled

His eyes were wild as he looked down at her and settled the moment he saw blood staining the inside of her gauzed up arm. His body went lax around her but he kept his knife out, not fully backing down. He stood there, looking up to give the woman one more 'eat shit and die' glare that promised death and insured the woman that she was lucky Lauren was holding him back. He moved his hand to inspect the blood stain but Lauren pulled away, turning to the woman.

Her smile was one of forced friendliness, and her voice was smooth. The voice of the peace maker, the negotiator. "Look, I'm sorry about him...he doesn't...play well with others." Judas scoffed behind her and she shot him a look over her shoulder that forced him to back away with an angered pout. Lauren looked down at her uniform, at all the blood stains and frowned. They weren't fresh but it still made her stomach turn in repulsion. With a meek smile she showed Tiffany the inside of her stitched up arm. "I just popped a stitch, no biggie." The back of her neck tingled as if someone was watching. She turned and met Judas's eyes, his gaze filled with concern.

And she just couldn't understand it. She didn't know why he cared so much when he clearly, as she'd put it lightly, didn't play well with others. She didn't know why he was being so nice to her or why he took care of her or why he promised to protect her...or to whom for that matter. All she knew is that she couldn't let him just dig himself into a hole. She wouldn't let him put himself into a bad spot with other people. There was a niceness to Judas, granted a part that she'd only seen glimpses, but it was there.

"He stitched me up. I was hurt pretty bad." She turned, saying on his defense, then looked at Tiffany. "Look, we don't know each other, I get that, but we'll have a better chance in surviving if we all stick together. Judas knows a place where we can get weapons and-..."

"Judas?" Tiffany interjected incredulously.

Lauren nodded, "He knows a place where we can hid out, get the weapons we need, and be better prepared to fend off these guys." She paused with a sigh, "I know he seems like a bit of a dickhead but he's all I've got and I can't leave you behind on good conscience. He'll behave, I promise." She heard Judas scoff behind her but she continued on. "We can get along, I know we can. If we just look past first impressions and work together it'll be fine."

"Speak for yourself, Kitten." Judas quipped.

Lauren shot him a glare and he chuckled, raising his hands up in surrender before shoving them into his pockets. Lauren turned to Tiffany and smiled, full of hope, "What do you say?"

She stared at the ground. Tiffany didn't know if she could trust someone who happened to be named "Judas." Lauren did seem sweet and caring and she could definitely get along with her. But this Judas, he just didn't seem, right. She looked up to see Lauren smiling at her. "Look, I don't know. You seem really nice but no offense, first impressions last forever." Tiffany was thinking hard about whether she should join their group. It definitely was better then the last one but could she really trust surviving in a group with some guy who was out for her head? "I guess." She smiled at Lauren. "But there is no way am I standing next to him." Tiffany pointed a sharp finger in Judas's direction and smiled.

"Didn't want you to anyway," Judas sneered.

Lauren elbowed him, "He meant that he'll be leading the way so he won't technically be standing beside anyone." she stated quickly, shooting Judas a glare. It was a glare that spoke volumes and he could read every word.

She was begging him not to make this difficult, laying her trust on the ground in front of him, pleading that he wouldn't make an ass of himself and put the rest of them in danger. His gaze assured her that he wouldn't, that she could trust him. He didn't place his trust in others but he was one who never went back on his word. He'd promised the deputy that he'd keep her safe. Unfortunately, now that Lauren turned out to be something akin to Mother Theresa that meant he had to keep this Tiffany chick safe too. He could tell by the way she looked at him, by the way she talked, that she didn't trust him. He couldn't care any less if he tried. He had an obligation. Whether she trusted him or not wasn't his problem.

"You two stay here. I'll go check and see if it's clear for us to move." He told them, giving Lauren one last stern look.

Lauren watched him go, falling back to stand beside Tiffany in somewhat of a comforting manner. She'd always been told that she could be easily read by the way she held herself, that her thoughts were reflected in the way she stood. She knew her confidence and overall faith in this man bearing an unfaithful name spoke more than words ever could.

Lauren looked down at the puppy laying up against Tiffany's leg and smiled fondly before meeting the woman's gaze. She knew where she was coming from, really. She thought he was insane their first moments in meeting too. But Judas sort of grew on her for no reason at all. She couldn't exactly explain it but she tried.

"He's a little rough around the edges, I'll admit." Lauren responded. "When I first met him we didn't actually meet per say. I was dragging myself through the parking lot with a wounded leg and Judas helped me. His friend lost his life in the attempt but Judas still made sure I was brought to safety. I know he seems like the kind of person that would just cut his losses and leave me there to die but he didn't. When I woke up he immediately began dressing my wounds even though I wasn't exactly warming up to him." She paused, smiling faintly. "I don't know what it is but I know he'll protect me. He's just someone you've got to get used to." Lauren let out a small laugh, "He's one minded I guess. Once he's headstrong in keeping someone safe he'll go about it by any means necessary."

Meanwhile, Judas snuck around the barriers of the back entrance of the mall. There was one up close and he immediately took care of it, severing the brain stem, his new preferred method in sneak attack. The others, he noticed, were far off. Not enough of them to hinder them and they were far enough away for them not to be a threat. They were all around heading towards the front entrance to the right anyway. Where they were going they needed to turn left. Satisfied with himself, Judas turned back.

Tiffany and Judas didn't exactly get off to a warming start.

Judas walked into the back and smirked when he saw Tiffany pick up her dog in slight paranoia. His ears picked up on something Lauren was saying, something like, "He won't do that, I promise."

He shook his head. He won't even ask, he decided. He'll just go under the false assumption that they hadn't been talking about him and go about telling them the plan. "Good news ladies, the coast is clear." he told them. He stopped about a foot away, keeping more closely to Lauren rather than Tiffany, giving her the space both of them needed. "As soon as we leave this back entrance we'll have to move quickly and silently to the left to get to where we need to get to. The place was abandoned from what I could tell before me and my buddy got here. We were going to set up base in there," he gestured to the mall, "and grab as much as we could before completely abandoning the place and moving on but..."

Lauren scratched the back of her neck, feeling somewhat guilty. Judas quickly jumped on it, "We'd better get a move on though. We'll set up camp on the roof once we've got everything, stay on high ground. I'm sure they've got tents in there to keep us dry if the weather goes to shit." He turned, motioning his head for them to follow, "Come on."

Lauren followed behind him closely, taken aback slightly when Judas put the gun in her hand. He leaned closer to her, his mouth at her ear, "Don't worry about it, Kitten." he whispered, "He wouldn't have been able to live with himself if we'd left you to the geeks." Lauren looked up at him, her eyes agape in confusion and awe. Judas smirked, "Besides, I'm glad he was determined enough to convince me to save you. Best thing I've ever let someone talk me into." He faltered, clearing his throat when he realized how corny that sounded. In an attempt to save face he gestured to the gun, "Better hold onto that. I think your friend will feel a lot safer if you have it instead of me. Just don't pull the trigger until it's absolutely necessary. The safety's on so it won't go off if you drop it or whatever, but keep that in mind when you're about to fire."

Judas quickly snuck forward, focusing more now on getting them to safety. Crouching slightly and gesturing behind him so the girls would do the same, he advanced towards the street. He brought out his knife, just in case, and double checked before ushering them forward, leading the way. He jogged silently as he crouched, glancing behind him to check and be sure that that the girls were following him and the zombies weren't. Thankfully, to his intense relief, the geeks hadn't detected them yet. The dog hadn't made a noise either. He'd been worried about that.

They traveled three blocks before Judas threw his elbow into the glass door, unlocked it swiftly from the inside and shoved the door open. "Get in!" he whispered sternly, looking around to make sure he hadn't alerted the attention of any unwanted corpses. He saw that he hadn't and smiled triumphantly, coming in behind the girls as they entered the Recreational Camping Supply store.

Tiffany had made it inside safely without dying. Maybe she could trust these people. She said Amy down and looked around her surrounding area. It was sort of messy but it would definitely do for the time being. A little confused Tiffany turned to Judas. "Isn't this a camping a store?" She asked with suprisingly no tone of attitude in her voice. "Can this really hold off those horrid monsters?"

Rex staggered down the empty street, more from exhaustion than any sort of injury, though to say he had made it so far without any scrapes would be a lie. He let his mind reel through the event that had led up to this point, as he kept a weary eye out for any more unwelcome guests.

It had been a normal day. He was in clinicals on a psychiatric rotation, of his third year in medical school. He was used to psychotic patients he had worked his way through college in an emergency room, and he had seen everything from violent to comical, but the patient that walked in the door was not typical. The sunken eyes, glazed expression, drooling, all screamed of some sort of drug use, probably cocaine maybe meth. It was of almost no surprise when the patient started flailing and snapping at the staff, but while the nurses restrained him his arm snapped, very clearly a complete break. The patient showed now response and continued his aggression.

One of the nurses got bitten before they had managed to completely restrain the patient. She went to the ER only to get a quick check out, it became extremely alarming when she started showing signs of the same condition. From there everything continued to spiral out of control. In the end he had been forced to stab an elderly patient through the chest with an IV pole, only to watch in horror as the patient continued to attempt to grab him.

Rex had fled the hospital after that grabbing his backpack and whatever medical equipment he could. He found an ally outside, threw up and then spent the better part of an hour sobbing.

It hadn't been any better in the rest of the city. Everywhere he went these "zombies" were everywhere. he had narrowly escaped several encounters, now he was almost too tired to continue, running on only a few short hours of sleep he had grabbed in an abandoned car and a sandwich he had smuggled out from the hospital lounge, he knew he had to find some sort of shelter now or he was going to collapse, zombies or no zombies.

Admittedly Judas was a little caught off guard when Tiffany looked to him, but he thought logically shortly after the initial shock. Of course she'd looked to him, it wasn't like Lauren knew about this place. He stood up a little straighter, using his knife to gesture towards the back end of the store. "There's some stuff back there that'll help fortify a good barrier. It'll be strong enough to hold them back long enough for us to get away if need be. Once we've gathered enough supplies we'll camp out on the roof until we tomorrow morning when we've decided where we want to go." He looked around, his gaze stopping on Lauren's face temporarily before he met Tiffany's questioning gaze, "It's no permanent home, just a pit stop, but we're safe here." he assured. He then looked over at Lauren with a stern but apprehensive look, "You should sit down and rest a bit, you're still injured. I don't want you overexerting yourself."

Lauren's face contorted into an angry pout, immediately on the defensive, "No way. I'm helping."

Oh please not right now, Judas thought to himself. He pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand and replied, "Look, I know you're probably all about equal rights and all that bullshit but I'd much rather have you sit the fuck down and let your wounds heal before another one of your stitches pop."

"But I want to help." Lauren argued

"And I want you to sit down and shut up."

"I'm helping." Lauren snapped.

Judas stood, looking down his nose at her, which was considerably easy since she was a head shorter than he was. She was like, what, seventeen at the most? Now that he had time to recollect he came to realize just how little he knew about this girl. So why the fuck was he letting her boss him around? He didn't break eye contact with her throughout this inner turmoil but he nonetheless lost. With a disgruntled sigh he, more or less, stomped over to the back of the store where the supply room was. Lauren, cheesing at the minor victory, followed behind him. He didn't look at her as he handed her the hammer and nails before grabbing a stack of wooden planks to bar the windows with. He could care less about what Tiffany was doing at the moment, probably playing with her dog or something.

He felt just like that damn mutt. Getting picked up and moved about, abiding to the wishes of some girl. What the hell happened to him?

But Lauren wasn't just some girl.

In hindsight, if he was going to be this girl's bitch--which won't happen because he's nobody's bitch--he should probably at least know more about her. There'll be time for that later, he decided. It wouldn't necessarily be wise for them to reveal how little they knew about each other when a new member of--Judas couldn't exactly call it a 'group', but regardless...

It wouldn't be wise for them to show Tiffany how little they knew about each other when she was putting her faith in Lauren to know that he wasn't a complete scumbag. What needs to be done was reassurance. Tiffany needed to know that Judas can be trusted. It was important to Lauren. Judas didn't know why. He couldn't understand how it affected Lauren what Tiffany though of him. Sure, he'd saved her life and took care of her. But she'd done the same thing for him back at the mall, didn't she? Judas wouldn't admit it and if it was ever brought up by anyone other than Lauren then whoever said it would be punched in the throat, but yeah, it happened.

Judas cleared his head, choosing to operate only by strategy for the time being. They needed to get this place secure, he couldn't afford to be distracted. Glancing down from the corner of his eyes he could immediately tell that Lauren wasn't giving up her hold on the tools. He sighed (she made him sigh a lot) and relented (and hasn't he been doing a lot of that lately?) He laid down a plank across the window, letting its corners touch some part of the wall. They were sturdy planks, not liable to last the entire apocalypse but they'd do for a day or two even under an attack. Lauren got a stool of some sort to stand on and went away at hammering the nails into the wall. Judas smirked at the way she tried to hit lightly in sake of not being heard and let her be. It was going to take forever at this rate but what did he care? He was amused.

Lauren seemed to catch the hint and began hammering away quickly. They'd managed to board up the windows completely within the hour and moved to do the door next. Blocking the front door was essential. They wouldn't be using it to make a break for it, that's what the back door was for. They'd spend their night on the roof and leave out the back door without any zombie being the wiser. In and out, just like that. They'd have enough weapons and ammunition to keep them alive for quite a while. And Judas had been eyeing that Stryker Strykerzone 380 crossbow since they'd got in.

Lauren moved towards the door, leaving Judas to collect the planks. They'd run out so she was left there until he got some more from the back but she didn't mind. She was more so relieved by how easily he'd agreed to let her help. As stubborn as he was, she was surprised she could get him to comply with anything at all. Judas was definitely predictable in his unpredictability. It gave Lauren a bit of an ego boost to know that she'd been able to control him so far for the most part. He was a loose cannon, liable to pop off any second if given the smallest incentive. She found solace in the knowledge that she could tug on his reigns a bit and quiet him down. As comforting of a thought that it was, she still felt uncomfortable letting someone become apart of whatever this was without knowing him completely. She couldn't regret it now, not since Tiffany had agreed to join them. She couldn't just let her walk into that mall with those things in there. She had no other choice.

Suddenly, though incredibly slowly, a car pulled up in front of the store unwillingly.

The car broke down, smoke rising from up under the hood. An easy fix from what Lauren could tell, the radiator just overheated. Put some water in there and it's as right as rain. But the person in the car didn't know that. In fact, there were a couple of people in there. Three. Two men she could readily identify sitting at the front and one person in the back who was just a silhouette. And they hadn't seen her, none of them. Their attention was straight ahead and on the car. One of them seemed to have deemed it save enough to get out and check the damage while the others stayed inside.

And it was back again. That strong urge to help those in need was stubbornly rearing its ugly head. She wanted to run out there and tell them to come inside before the hoard noticed them, to wait in the store with them until it was safe enough to make repairs. Hastily, Lauren glanced over at Tiffany. She hadn't noticed them yet. But Judas had.

He was standing in front of her when she turned her head back around, having been leaning up against the wall since he'd gone into the storage room. He propped the planks up against the wall beside her, his gaze never wavering. She was caught off guard, not only by his sudden appearance but how she hadn't noticed him. Surely he wasn't that sneaky. Nevertheless, her authority didn't wane. And he only broke eye contact to look at the people outside before he quickly looked back at her. Lauren felt her heartbeat pick up speed, a small blush forming around her cheekbones under his intense stare but she wouldn't back down. They read off each other. He saw her desire to help and she saw him immediately shut her down. She retaliated without uttering a single sound and so did he. He wasn't getting anywhere. Not a word was uttered and he was already losing. Lauren smirked and pushed herself off the wall to move but Judas blocked her exit, placing both hands on the wall beside her head to pin her in place. Lauren opened her mouth to verbally lash at him but Judas stopped her, his baritone voice chillingly adamant and inexorable.

"Don't even think about it."

Lights flickered and snippets of jazz music could be heard throughout the Mall, which had been bustling with normal people until 24 hours ago. Now, only the moans of the dead could be heard instead of the droll of chatters from chipper shoppers. It was late afternoon, with the sun sinking ever faster behind the trees; Time was running out for anyone left breathing to find a safe place for the night. The dead seemed to be becoming more active as the darkness rolled in.

Dallas peered around the corner of a building, breathing hard. She had been on the run all day, stalking in the shadows whenever she could to rest. She had witnessed many things in her life, but nothing close to this. It had been somewhat of a normal day..she had started her second week of working for her Father's company, some place where they did scientific research and had secure labs. She was just simply a receptionist though, trying to get lost in paperwork and business so she could forget her Fiance; whom she had left a few weeks ago. She had just exited her work place, having finished her morning shift. She had been hearing about strange illness spreading, and people beginning to attack one another violently, so she was on alert today. But nothing could prepare her for this. When she entered the small mini mart something was off. It was quiet, with no one at the front and no shoppers. She called out with no response, so she cautiously walked to the back to find someone. When she opened the back door, she saw him. He was bloodstained and crouched over, his exposed skin was grey and lifeless looking. There was crunching and tearing sounds coming from underneath him, and when she saw the half eaten human body she barely contained a scream. Her legs shaking, she tried to back away as quietly as she could, but bumped into a shelf, it's contents falling to the floor loudly. A groan came from the man and he turned, his bloodshot and sunken eyes focusing on her. His face was covered in blood and pieces of steaming flesh dripped from his mouth. He slowly stood up and made a shuffle towards her, suddenly lurching forward faster with his filthy hands stretched out to grab her. She screamed and dodged him narrowly, side-stepping to avoid him. Thinking fast, like she had to do so many times in her life, she ran behind the counter, looking for a weapon. There was a fire extinguisher in the corner, and she yanked it from it's resting place just as her attacker approached. She grit her teeth and slammed the heavy butt of the extinguisher into his face, smashing his nose up into his skull. He sputtered and moaned, falling to the ground in a bloody grotesque pile.

Dallas swallowed hard, convincing herself that it was not human...and if it was then it deserved to die anyway. It was eating a man for pete's sake! How could that thing be a human being still? She felt a small pang of guilt, but sucked it up quickly and gathered her thoughts. There might be more of these demons lurking around, and she wouldn't be a victim. If her travels taught her anything it was to always be prepared and never go down without a fight. Some people had been saying saying that it was the end of the world, and that this new virus would take over; but the News and Government had kept it under wraps pretty well. So Dallas tried to keep calm and live her life, thinking it was just extremists talking like that. Now she knew they were right. And it was time to put her survivalist skills into use. Digging around under the counter some more she found a hand gun and stashed it into her jacket for quick use, just in case. She stuffed her purse full of snacks that would give her energy, as well as some water and a few things of any medicine she could find, like ibuprofen. Gathering all she could carry, she exited the mini mart from the back, sneaking through alleys. She could hear screams and panic down almost every street, and tried to stay hidden as she sneaked through the city, avoiding conflict where possible.

She had come across many dead bodies, the ones that weren't coming back to life, and took what she could from them; scoring a particularly sharp hunting knife from what looked like a body of a homeless man. As the day went on she ran into more and more of these corpses, and had no choice but to fight through them in gruesome close combat, not wanting to waste bullets or attract more trouble. By the time late afternoon hit she was exhausted, and beat up to say the least. Her jeans were torn and so was her maroon tank top, a large tear across the fabric covering her stomach. It was getting colder, and she needed to place to stay. She didn't know this city very well, but knew she needed better supplies. So she decided to head towards the mall, hoping they had some better clothes at least.

With her knife held up, she decided to make a break for it, running across the parking lot and up to the nearest entrance. Peering around the corner, it seemed to be clear. The place looked like a disaster though, and it seemed she wasn't the only one who thought to come here for supplies. The stores looked all busted up and pillaged for goods already. It smelt like death inside. Not too inviting. But she needed supplies, and some rest. There had to be some safe place in here. Being as tired as she was, she decided to go for it.

Dallas stalked into the building, getting only a short ways in before she heard something to her right. There was another entrance, and it was being opened. She sucked in a breath and hid as the figure came inside. It was too hard to tell if it was a corpse or not, but by the way it walked she didn't think it was. Better safe than sorry though. She snuck up behind the figured and watched it for a moment. Definitely not a corpse. But people were nuts now, she had seen humans killing humans more than she cared to every see today. Coming up behind him, she jerked him around and then without giving him enough time to react, pushed him down on the ground and jumped on top of him, her legs pinning his arms and the weight of her sitting on his chest holding him down. She had her knife up to his throat, her eyes scouring his for any sign of the virus. None. She breathed in relief, but still held her knife to his neck.

"I don't want to hurt you, but I couldn't risk having you find me later and murdering me for my supplies..." She said, waiting for a reply, her long strawberry blonde hair spilling across her shoulders and chest as she leaned forward slightly.

Dallas's hand holding the knife relaxed slightly as she saw the true fear in his eyes. She noted the black scrubs as well; he was obviously in the medical field, which could be useful. He looked even more beat down and exhausted than she did. She felt pity, and with a shaky hand, she withdrew her weapon, keeping her eyes on him as she slowly stood. She pulled him up to his feet as well, keeping an arm-length distance between them as they both got to their feet. Dallas didn't put her knife away though, and eyed him up and down for a second to decipher what she wanted to do from here. She sighed, running her fingers through her wind blown hair, letting her guard down against him.

"Alright. You're in pretty bad shape, I'll help you find a safe place for tonight. Come on--" She started, and then her face became grim. A corpse was approaching from behind Rex and she had to act fast if she was going to save him. She leaped forward, flying past Rex and preforming a roll, landing next to the zombie on one knee. Without a second to waste she swiped her leg into the zombie's as hard as she could, toppling him onto the tile floor. She raised her knife and plunged it into it's eye before it could attack either one of them, silencing it. She breathed in and out deeply a few times and then wrenched her weapon from the corpse's skull, wiping blood splatters off her face with her sleeve. She turned back to Rex and grabbed him by his upper arm, staring him in the eye.

"No time for introductions, we need to get to a safe place. This is too open to be standing around in."

And with that she lead him away from the putrid rotting body, traveling through the shadowy parts of the mall, avoiding any stray zombie in their path. She eventually spotted what she needed, and tugged Rex in the direction of an outdoor store. Perfect. Hopefully something was left that could be of use. They stalked quietly inside, scanning the store for any deadbeats. Clear. Dallas let go of Rex's arm and put her finger to her lips, shushing him.

"Just be quiet...I need a few things in here and then we can move on, alright? You have a weapon?" She asked, hoping he had one, and knew how to use it as well. She didn't want to have to be responsible for a man that couldn't protect himself in a pinch. but she knew she couldn't leave him behind in the shape he was in.

Lauren wasn't about to fight a losing battle. Judas not being on her side was something she was accustomed to, but she couldn't curry his favor with Tiffany taking his side. Lauren struggled to see reason but her chivalry wouldn't allow her to just abandon human lives like that. Judas looked down at her and rolled his eyes, pulling her to the side behind the counter where all the weapons where stored, out of earshot from their blue-haired companion. Lauren refused to look him in the eyes, out of spite. That didn't last long. Judas held her chin between his thumb and forefinger and forced her to look up at him and meet his gaze.

"Kitten," he let the pet name drag out, his eyes showing her exactly how deep his condolences were. Lauren turned her head away and he sighed in defeat, plopping his hand down on the top of her head, steering her gaze that way. "I don't know why you feel obligated to save every Tom and Susan you come across but you have to get this messiah perspective out of your head. There are bad people in this world. Situations like this bring out the worst in people."

"There's good in everyone." Lauren resisted.

Judas stared at her, "You won't be saying that when we get mugged or killed or worse." Lauren's eyes gaped slightly at the seriousness in his voice, at the threat that came with it. She'd be naive to think that people weren't that cruel but she knew people were. Lauren looked down, breaking the moment as she slowly began to accept his premise. He was more the devil's advocate than anything, always giving her an unhealthy dose of reality. She needed it though. She supposed Judas needed her too...she just couldn't figure out for what.

That was probably a good thing. Everyone really had gone bonkers, dead or not.

"You're tellin' me, I've seen more of my fair share of murder today. I thought I was the only sane one left.." She muttered, shaking her head to get the gruesome memories of earlier out of her head. "I'm Dallas Renee Kent, but you can call me Renee if you like, Or Ren." She offered her hand, and as they shook hands she added, "It's nice to meet you during the end world as we know it Rex. Whistle if you see any of them deadbeats coming our way." With a small amused smile she set off to her side of the store.

Her first objective was to find more weapons, then a bag and hopefully better clothes; hers were in tatters. She prowled through the store. it was a mess. Everything was thrown around in disarray and chaos, either by those who were trying to escape or by others also trying to find anything useful. She stepped over piles of broken objects, being as quiet as she could as she searched. She found a rack of clothes that had yet to be tossed around and shuffled through them. She pulled out a dull forest green jacket with white faux fur on the hood. She felt the material between her fingers and smiled; it was water proof, yet still light enough to move around in easily. She threw it over her shoulder and continued her search.

A few minutes later in scouring the area over by the weapon's case she tripped over something covered by some clothes, falling hard and jamming her elbow into one of the still in tact glass cases. She tried to hold in a scream, muffling it with her hand before she got too loud. Her elbow had been sliced pretty good, but it wasn't life threatening, just very painful and would probably bruise as well. She slowly got up to her feet, inspecting her elbow for a second before cursing and kicking whatever she had tripped over. Her eyes widened when she saw what had been under the piece of clothing, could it be?! With shaky hands she knelt down and fully uncovered the object, pausing in a moment of disbelief before swooping it up with a large smile, holding it up in the dim light. It was a hunting grade Bow, a fairly decent one as well. It had multiple strings and a beautifully shaped main body. Dallas tested the strings strength, not bad. She quickly tore up the rest of the area around the weapons cases, forgetting about her bleeding slice of a cut on her arm as she dug around.

After a few more minutes of digging in every nook and cranny, Dallas managed to find six arrows for her new Bow, and a machete with a case. 20 minutes had passed, and she was starting to get a little anxious being out in the open store, so she headed over to Rex. She had hoped he found a decent bag or two, and perhaps some better clothes by now since she had found the miracle crossbow and knife.

"Psst, hey Rex." she whispered as she approached him from behind, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I scored some weapons, did you find anything?" She questioned, glancing around to see if he had any goods yet. "We need to get moving now though, we've been in the open for too long and risk being found by those flesh eating gluttons..."

Rex picked his way through the wreckage that was left of the store. It was a mess. His head throbbed from the days exertion, but he forced himself to focus on the task at hand.

He found a camo jacket and threw it on over his scrubs. He felt the material, it was thick, probably tough enough to stop the teeth of one of those creatures out there from making a meal out of him. He contined his search turning over a fallen shelf. "Bingo!" He exclaimed in an excited whisper. He drew the long metal bat from the mangled display case and twirled it around in his hand. "This will work perfectly."

He found some heavy tape and a whole rack of energy bars near the cash registers and he scooped them into his backpack that he had kept the medical supplies he managed to smuggle out from the hospital. He unwrapped one of the bars and took a satisfying bite.

Just then He heard a crash from the other side of the store follwed by a muffled yelp. His hair stood on end as he held his beath straining to hear any further sign that the girl was alright.

A moment later she called out to him, he breathed a sigh of relief and answers back in a whisper. "Yea I got some stuff we can use"

He headed back toward her voice and then froze. Six silhouettes stood in the entryway of the store rambling in an errie shuffle. Panicky Rex searched for another exit to no avail. His grasp tightened on his bat and he gritted his teeth, "We have company!" He called to the girl as loudly as he dared, and he prayed that she heard him..... And that they didn't.

Tiffany continued gazing out the window. Of course, the three had exited the car. As usual Karis was obviously doing nothing to help, Liam had been checking the car's engine, and it looked like Zack had been assigned to lookout. Tiffany couldn't have anyone of them see her and she knew it. She put her face in her palms. "Dammit!" She said to herself. Rubbing her eyes and looking back out, luckily no one had noticed the strange blue haired girl. And for that, she was happy.

Dallas was walking towards Rex after she had spoken out to him, nearing his location in the store. She had a smile on her face despite her injury from finding her new toys. As she got within 10 feet of her new acquaintance, he called out to her in a panicked whisper, announcing company was here. Her smile drooped into a grimace as she saw the group of six shuffling towards them. She wasn't sure if they had quite seen them yet, so now was the time to act. She loaded her crossbow as quickly as she humanly could, slipping up to Rex's side with her aim directed at the group.

"We need to get to the exit before more show up. Let's move." She whispered, her words tense. She glanced sideways at him for a moment before advancing forward. He could be the last human she would ever see, and this could be both of their last moments. At least she wasn't alone. She stalked forward, staying low as the mob of corpses shuffled further into the store. She started to feel like they would make it out unnoticed; until she kicked something metal across the floor, making a loud clang as it hit another object. This immediately caught their attention and they changed course to their direction. Dallas's breath caught in her chest and her heart felt like it was going to stop as she saw them move faster and start to grunt and snarl.

She whipped her bow up to eye-level and let one arrow fly, piercing one of them right through their open gob of a mouth, making them fall in front of the group. The others didn't stop and shuffled over him. Dallas bit her lip and grabbed Rex's arm,

"We can't take them all at once, not in this confined space. Run!" She said, jerking into a full force run, making sure Rex was next to her as they headed for the exit. They had at least gotten closer, and with the Zombies having entered farther into the store there was a good distance for them to get past them and out the door. Dallas's legs carried her as fast as they could, not glancing back at the horrific mob advancing after them.

After a minute she did look back, thinking that they had gained distance between them. And they had, a pretty good gap. She almost felt relieved, until she turned her head back around. No. Why was there so many here still? An even larger group of flesh eaters were in front of them, maybe 50 feet away. There was at least 20, if not more, plus the 5 behind them. She skidded to a stop and made sure Rex also stopped with her before getting too much closer to the hoard. She whipped her head around in every direction, looking for an escape. There. A little over ten feet away there was a stopped escalator, their only hope. She grabbed Rex's hand and held on as tight as she could so they wouldn't get separated, leading him towards the escalator.

The larger group saw them, but only after they had taken off running again towards their escape route. They started to move slowly, then became more excited and charged forward. Dallas felt the urge to close her eyes, but kept them open with pure will as her and Rex surged towards the escalator. Both groups were closing in on them, fast. They barely skidded past the larger mob and flung themselves down the escalator, skipping stairs as they practically flew down them. A few members of the mob fell from the top floor down to the bottom as they rushed after their fast food meal, but most made it and were coming after them. Dallas and Rex made it to the bottom before the ones who had fallen could get back up and flew past them.

Dallas could cry when she saw the back exit of the mall, and urged her legs to go faster. She still held tight to Rex's hand as they made it to the doors, the hoard a little bit farther back now from getting stuck on the escalator by trying to push past one another.

"Keep going Rex, we can make it!" She said loud enough for him to hear it, trying to encourage him and also herself to keep going; to keep living. They ran for a few more minutes and rounded the corner of a building not too far away from the Mall, almost running into a man maybe a little older than Dallas.

"RUN!" She exclaimed to him, hoping he wouldn't think twice with all that had been happening in the city in the past 24 hours.

Then, she saw more people. They were surrounding a smoking car. They looked pretty young, at least some of them. She had hoped they had heard her warning as well, but yelled out again to make sure.

"There's a hoard coming!!! They'll be here any minute!" She yelled out, staggering in her run and almost falling, causing her to slow down.

There was a store right in front of them, and perhaps their only hope to hide before they hoard rounded the corner and saw them. Dallas rushed up to the door and tried to open it to no avail. She began pounding on it in frustration, yelling out even though she knew that there was little to no chance there was anyone inside.

"OPEN! PLEASE!!" She begged the door, jamming her shoulder into it as many times as she could, not caring if it bruised her.

Liam lifted up his head, looking around for whoever had just called. "Yeah, we're friendly!" He waited, wondering who else had been trapped in this hell. Oddly enough, it sounded as if whoever had called out was running towards them with other people.

And then the woman, exotic looking and followed by a man in black scrubs, screamed a warning about a hoard. She then sprinted, a bit slowed from stumbling moments before, over to the door and tried desperatley to get in. Liam turned, finally seeing who had called out to them. He was running along with the woman, crazed with a rush of fight or flight syndrome. He raised one eyebrow, taking it in.

He sprinted over to the door. "Karis, Zack, here! Now," he yelled back at the pair, wanting to at least try to get someone into the store alive. He started slamming into the door, trying to get the door to give into their combined force.

What a fine day to die.

Tiffany suddenly jumped. Pounding started on the door, at first she thought it was zombies then she heard human voices screaming their lungs out about some hoard. Her heart started racing. She knew who three of them were but the other two sounded no where near familiar. Tiffany frantically looked Judas's way with a "what do we do now?" look?

The screams from outside pelted through the barricades of the store. Lauren’s anxiety shook her to the core, her heart started racing in her chest as the muffled sounds of ravenous growling and moaning spurred Judas into action. Without hesitation, he brought his elbow through the glass of the weapons cache and grabbed a shotgun. He quickly loaded it, finding a hunting rifle in close proximity and quickly doing the same. He ducked down, pulling three machetes from up under the ammo casing where all of the knives were stored, placing them on the counter with the guns. It all happened in a matter of seconds. Before Lauren could say anything to deter him, Judas grabbed the crossbow he’d kept his eye on for so long and strapped it onto his back, filling a quiver with arrows before slinging that over his shoulder as well.

Tiffany was at the door, frantically looking up to meet Judas's eyes. “Stay here.” He commanded in a brusque tone, shoving past both of the girls and leaving the store without another word. Lauren quickly stood beside Tiffany, grasping the woman’s arm for some comfort as she watched Judas descend into the dangerous unknown.

Outside, Judas opened the door to see be met face to face with a man. He was tall, about an inch or two taller than himself, with long brown hair and green eyes. His olive skin was dirtied and battered from the turmoils of the apocalypse, his tattered clothes revealing his struggled survival.

The man looked down at Judas's arsenal and cocked a brow, "Whoa."

"Want one?" Judas offered with a smirk. The man said no more as he took the shot gun and a machete. Judas whistled to grab the other man's attention, showing him his weapons before looking down at the younger boy beside the door. He tossed the boy the rifle, sheathing the machete in his belt behind his back as he made his way out of the doorway with the older man, bringing his crossbow to the front of him to load it. He shouldn’t feel so giddy but he does. Maybe that was a bad thing. He made eye contact with the older of the two and gave him a nod, insuring without words that he was there to help. He tugged on the pulled back the string of his crossbow, smirking at the resistance of its weight. It was like falling in love. He loaded an arrow swiftly and pulled the trigger, sending it between the eyes of a creature that had strayed too close. He could barely restrain himself from belting out a celebratory ‘Booyah!’ at the sheer elegance and accuracy of this weapon. It was beautiful.

But enough of that.

Judas turned to the door of the shop, seeing the woman from the car and kid just huddled there. He groaned, aggravated and put off but in no position to make a huge commotion and complain at the moment. He looked to the kid and instructed him to take the blonde girl inside and protect the others. “If it all goes to shit, I want you in there making sure they’re safe.” He didn’t wait to see if the kid was following orders, he didn’t have the time. The other man was already firing off at the oncoming hoard, no instruction needed. Judas stepped up as he continued to pick them off. The man—whom, Judas realized through closer inspection, was wearing scrubs—and woman had already rushed through the door when he'd first came out. Judas glanced over in time to see the door suddenly being slammed shut.

The noise of the shotgun going off was beginning to attract more but that didn’t matter at this point. Everyone was inside the store except Judas himself and the two other men. The women were safe, as was the medic—which was more than a little important. And as his steady gaze roamed over the crowd of zombies it became evident that the three of them probably wouldn’t make it out alive. Even as he calmly picked off more and more of those half-dead freaks the numbers only continued to increase. It wasn’t by much but it was enough to overthrow just the three of them. Yeah, three of them. There had been another guy with some sort of heavy assault gun who'd come out from the alley...to help it seemed. Judas smirked.

“Hey guy…” He called over the heavy fire. The man looked over at him, just as Judas pulled the trigger and an arrow shot through the eye socket of a nearby zombie. “What’d they call you before all this?”

“Liam,” he introduced himself, pausing to send a shotgun shell through a zombie’s face. “I was a bartender.”

Judas chuckled, “Well if we survive this, you and me are going to get along just fine.”

Liam found humor in that as he reloaded, being handed ammo from Judas in the transition of the young man unsheathing another arrow. “Why’s that?” he responded.

They took aim simultaneously while Judas stated, “I’m going to need a drink after this.” Liam laughed and Judas smiled, reaching back into his quiver for another arrow. One by one the dead became to fall. With the crossbow taking aim Judas was in his own little world, aiming with breathtaking precision and accuracy. No arrow was wasted, every one of them went straight through the head. He glanced at his comrades and was bemused to see that they too shared the same shooting quality. Bullets were just as valuable after all. Just as Judas was beginning to wonder how many arrows he actually had, he reached into his quiver and his face fell.

Shit. He ran out. He couldn't very well go into the shop for more and leave these guys. Besides, he'd taken all the arrows he could find. There probably wasn't anymore in there anyway. He looked to the crowd, slinging his crossbow over his shoulder, the strap keeping it to his back. There was only one thing he could do. "Fuck it!" He cursed. making a beeline straight into the hoard.

"Where are you going!?" Liam hollered, "Are you crazy?!"

Judas unsheathed the machetes behind his back and ran right up to one of the beasts, beheading the thing with a backwards sling of his left head. "I'm going to get my arrows!"

"You can get more!" Judas ignored him and shoved the blade deep into the creature's skull, kicking the limp body away as it began to fall. He turned, coming face to face with one of the snarling creatures. He'd only had time to meet it's blank gaze for a second before its head blew up in front of him. Judas didn't turn around. He'd heard the gun shot and knew. "I'll cover you!" Liam told him, his voice carrying through the orchestra of the undead.

Milling through the crowd in a flurry of chopped of heads and semi-severed spinal cords, Judas eyed his surrounding carefully. He picked off one and three more were shot around him. He crouched down in front of one of the ones he'd taken down earlier, ripping the arrow from the rotten flesh and stabbing into another in one full swing. With bullets flying around him, he moved swiftly through the crowd, immobilizing the zombies he couldn't kill, collecting up all of his arrows. There were so many all around him. Soon the sounds of gunfire became to blur away and the scent of rotting carcasses left his nostrils. He concentrated only on the zombies immediately surrounding him, picking off what they weren't already aiming for. It was a careless strategy, this, but it's all they had to go on.

His quiver was finally replenished and by that time Judas stood in the midst of fallen corpses. He looked over at the two men by the car and smiled in something akin to gratitude, or the closest Judas would ever get. A distant groaning took his attention over his own shoulder. More were on their way. There were few but definitely more. Judas made his way to the door.

"We should get inside."

Tiffany felt an arm latch around hers, it was Laurens. She could tell her anxiety was definitely picking up. Although Tiffany could feel a severe panic attack coming on she didn't want to show it to Lauren. "Everything's gonna be fine ok? We'll be safe, I know it." She felt guilty. Tiffany didn't know whether they would survive or not. She had just lied through her teeth to the only friend she'd really had.

Dallas was about to take out her gun as a last minute resort to shoot the lock open, but then a whoosh of air flew past her as the door swung open, revealing a man around her age, possibly younger. Her eyes widened in surprise. What were the chances of there being more survivors? It was a miracle! She thanked God and was about to say something to the man, but he stepped passed her and handed the guy who had helped her try and bust the door down a gun. He then barked a few orders to the other people whom she had run across outside by the car, ushering them all inside.

Immediately the men took action, shooting whatever weapon they had available at the hoard that was coming at them from around the corner. Dallas wasn't one to hide in the face of danger, so she stayed outside behind the three men, firing her own gun at the mass group approaching. The man she had warned in the alley was also helping take down the hoard. Once she had used her whole clip of bullets, many of the zombies had fallen thanks to the sharp shooting of herself and the guys. The man who had opened the door then took out his machetes and ran full force into the group, lopping off heads and beating down any bloody soulless body that came at him. At first she thought he was crazy, but then she realized he was retrieving his arrows. Smart. She smirked at his stubbornness. Just then she heard a snarl from a few feet away. A lone zombie had heard the noise and was approaching from the side a few feet away. She also whipped her machete out and charged at the body, stabbing it right in-between the eyes and then jerking the blade from his now open skull.

Just then all three of the men headed for the door, saying to get inside. She followed after them, hoping that they had seen the worst for the night.

Liam looked out at the parking lot and road. It was an absolute bloodbath. He smiled down at his newly given weapons. This guy seemed to know how to wreak absolute havoc.

He stared curiously at the man. He looked to be around his age, roughly, and strong. His eyes held a look of someone unpredictable; a trait Liam respected. He again glanced back at the carnage. Blood stained the asphalt, and everything there that wasn't human was still, with the exception of a few stragglers.

He once again turned to face the man. Liam pulled out a cigarette, lighting it, not breaking his gaze. This man was adept at fighting, and apparently scouting locations to defend. They were at a camping store. Whoever's idea it was to stay here was a genius, it had everything one would need to survive things like this. Even if it wasn't a permanent location, it was still a great place to stock up.

Slowly, Liam walked inside after the man. Of course, there was Tiffany, Karis, and Zack. "Oh, you've got to be kidding me. She's here?!"

He took another long drag on his cigarette, staring at the blue haired girl who had run off only a little while before.

Judas lingered on the outside as the others made it inside. He glimpsed at the door to see a woman, the woman who'd been with the medic, going back inside beside Liam and the other guy. When the fuck had she been out here? It didn't matter, he decided making his own way into the store, as long as they were safe.

Everyone made it in and Judas shut the door behind them all, barricading it quickly with the planks he'd left leaning up against the wall earlier. Liam wordlessly helped him do so and backed away once it was done, moving out of the way just as Lauren flung herself at Judas, wrapping her arms tightly around him. Judas let out a small smile and wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

"Judas! What were you thinking running into that hoard like that!?" she lectured, pulling away after the short hug, standing beside Tiffany once more. She was mad. Well of course she was. They didn't know each other that well but they were close and Judas very nearly could've died doing something that risky. He gave her a small smile in apology, letting her know without words that he was sorry just as her hug revealed how relieved she was that he was safe.

"Judas?"

His eyes pinpointed the person to whom the voice belonged and they stopped dead on the young woman who'd stayed outside. He almost felt sorry for not noticing her during the whole escapade. He was also shocked, not by her ability to defend herself but by the way she said his name. Usually people say it as if it physically pains them. Sure it wasn't his real name but it was given to him. It was a part of him. It was nice to have someone say it for once without some hidden judgement there.

Judas responded with a flirtacious smirk and replied casually, "Yeah. You want a kiss?"

Tiffany had very clearly noticed Liam walk in. He stared right at her and and whispered something she quite couldn't make out. After a couple minutes of him staring she got pretty annoyed. She looked down at Lauren who wasn't much shorter then her. "I'll be right back okay?" She sweetly smiled and swiftly strolled over in Liam's direction, of course he was carelessly smoking a cigarette. "Is there a reason why you're staring?" Tiffany sneered.

"Yes," he hissed, "I kind of thought you up and died out there. Thanks for the heads up!" He let out a puff of smoke. His leg stung, remembering how he had looked for her and gotten burned pretty badly.

She had given him absolutely no warning, no hint that this was going to happen. "To top that off, you kind of told us to go ahead and get eaten by zombies! Thanks again!"

He stepped a little closer, clenching his jaw tight, holding back his anger. He let out a bit of air, and stepped back, getting himself under control. "There are a whole bunch of things I have to say to you, Tiffany, but I won't say it here, not in front of these people."

He backed away even farther, his hands in a fist, knuckles white. He looked anywhere but at her, she ticked him off to no end. To think she had the nerve to basically give him the bird and run off..

Dallas took in her surroundings as soon as they all stepped inside the store. Everything was intact and the building looked pretty sturdy, and for that she was grateful. Maybe they could hide out here for a while, and with some luck, the herds of zombies might move on so they could make it out of this God forbidden City. Her attention was soon caught by a younger girl, late teens maybe, who flung herself at the man who seemed more like the leader in the group than any. She hugged him tightly, obviously happy he had returned safely. She arched an eyebrow. They didn't look related...perhaps he had taken her under his wing. Aww, the badass zombie slayer who takes in little girls. it was pretty sweet, actually. It made Dallas smile slightly at the scene. The name the girl had called out made her repeat it without thinking; It was a great name, and it rolled off of her tongue in a pleasant way. She liked the way it sounded.

The man, Judas, gazed around the room and pinpointed her in the group, studying her for a moment. She gazed back at him, giving him a look of gratitude for saving their asses. She owed him, big. But, she wasn't going to say that out loud. She would just simply repay his actions later on when the time was right.

"Yeah. You want a kiss?"

His words hung in the air and made her eyes narrow, just barely. Oh. So he was one of those types huh? A smart mouth male. Well, she would just have to shut him up then. She stomped towards him, looking angry and as if she were about to land a fist into his face. But instead, she grasped his shirt and yanked him forward, placing a rough kiss on his lips, making it lastjust long enough before pulling away. A smirk played at her lips as she took a step back, her shin high cowgirl boots clicking on the ground as she moved. She held her gaze with him for a moment before turning her head and walking over to Rex, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"You okay Rex?" She asked, not even glancing back at Judas, acting like she had never even touched him. That ought to shut him up. Or make him louder, but oh well, she could handle it.

Before Rex or anyone could say anything, suddenly the blue haired girl had blown her top and was screaming at the top of her lungs at one of the guys. Her eye twitched in annoyance. Great. A diva! Just what they need. Was she TRYING to get more dead people over here to eat them all for dinner? She turned to the girl, speaking her mind.

"Excuse me, I can see you're not happy with your boyfriend over there, but can you keep it DOWN? If you scream one more time I won't hesitate to shut you up." She said, taking a step towards her with her hands on her hips, daring her to scream one more time.

"Tiffany," he said softly, refusing to look at the girl who was in the middle of a tantrum. "I refuse to speak to you until you are calm."

He returned to smoking his cigarette, grinding his teeth together, blowing smoke rings; doing anything to contain his own rage. Liam felt a little remorseful that he had that effect on her. But, it couldn't be helped.

At least he knew how to not act like a three year old. He stood up, annoyed with her attitude. They had more important things to worry about than personal opinions, he should've known better. Without a glance back, he walked out to the front of the store.

It was cooler out there, and Tiffany's yells of outrage were fainter. He laughed a little, she had seemed so mature. Appearances can be decieving. Aside from those types of thoughts, he didn't hate her.

He just didn't understand her.

She scoffed. "And now, I refuse to talk to you ever." She calmed her voice and turned to the girl that had spoken to her. "First off he is not nor will he ever be my boyfriend and you will not "shut me up." She smiled devilishly and walked away carelessly. She sat on the floor and stroked Amy's head. Amy and Lauren were really the only ones that understood her. When she looked down her hands were shaking furiously. When Tiffany was in middle school she had gotten suspended many times for being involved with many physical fights. Her dad hated that she wasn't perfect. Of course at that time she didn't have blue hair or a tattoo and her wrist. If he'd ever saw that she'd really be eaten by the zombies. She would often lash out at people. And the shaking hands were just the start of it.

All eyes were on Tiffany just after the kiss. Figures, Judas mentally groaned, turning his head as the cowgirl walked away. That's probably just what she wants, attention. He sure as hell didn't want it. If he had his way, he and Miss Cowgirl would take this somewhere private. Then realization hit him. Tiffany knew these people. Well Liam anyway.

Poor guy.

Tiffany hadn't held his attention for long, if she ever did. While Lauren kept her eyes glued to the two bickering acquaintances, Judas's eyes drifted towards the cowgirl again. And what great timing too. He'd looked over just as she turned to the blue-haired girl and said, "Excuse me, I can see you're not happy with your boyfriend over there, but can you keep it DOWN? If you scream one more time I won't hesitate to shut you up."

Judas almost fell out in laughter, he didn't know what held it back. Tiffany of course had something to say. Something similar in tone to the way she'd spoken to him earlier that day. Judas saw a glimpse of fury in the cowgirl's bright blue eyes at Tiffany's retort, right before she stomped off to pet her damn mutt.

With a roll of his eyes, Judas casually made his way over to the cowgirl. His hands shoved in his pockets as he looked her over before she looked up at him. "Don't take it personal." he told her with a smirk, "She's the same way with me."

Dallas's eyes flared and she felt her fist tremble as the blue haired diva retorted with a bratty reply, walking away from her to go sit alone with a puppy. She felt her legs trying to move on their own to go give that little girl what she deserved. No kisses, just a slap in the face this time around. But, for some reason she kept her cool and shook it off. She wasn't going to get sucked into some cat fight at the moment. She was lucky to be alive, and figured from now on she had better choose her battles more wisely. But, who knew how long that mentality would last.

She decided to sit down for a moment, bumping her arm as she did and sucking in a breath. That cut she had gained earlier stung like a biatch now that she didn't have to worry about running for her life. it was still bleeding slightly, and she was about to find something to wrap it up with when Judas approached. Oh jeez, what did he want? She lifted her head to look up at him, tempted to make a remark, but he spoke first.

"Don't take it personal. She's the same way with me."

She smiled slightly, her eyes filled with humor, "Ah, so is that supposed to make me feel better?" She remarked, a grin tugging at her pink lips. "I can handle a little twerp like that..." she started, then continued "But thanks, nice for a big strong man to come and cheer me up." She said, chuckling a little under her breath. Her eyes weren't filled with any ill intentions, she was just having fun poking remarks at him. He was the kind of person she couldn't help messing with. "Or did you really come over here for another kiss?" She questioned, raising a brow at Judas.

His eyes bore into hers in amusement, barely able to conceal his smile but he did it well. In all honesty he'd considered far more than just a few kisses but there'd be another time for that. Too many people. Too crowded. Too much drama at the moment. He had to prioritize. Getting laid wasn't at the top of his list.

It was nice though, he had to admit, the way she didn't turn him away. He'd gotten far too much of that in his lifetime. Something about this girl intrigued him and he couldn't blame it solely on the way she toyed with him.

Then something caught his attention, the slightest movement of her arms brought his eyes to the open cut she had there. There was blood, not much because it had began to clot up into a scab but still. "You're hurt." he stated simply, his eyes on her wound and nothing else.

Judas was never one to ask for permission if he was trying to help. This time was no different. He grabbed her arm and pulled it gently so he could have a better look. It wasn't that serious but no doubt it hurt. It wouldn't be much trouble to clean it up and take care of it. In thinking so, he pulled out some rolled up gauze and a few packets of alcohol pads from his pocket. He'd kept them on his person in case Lauren needed to change her bandaging but she was fine for now. Lying the gauze in her lap, he tore open the packet with his teeth. He smirked a bit when he realized how closely it resembled him opening up a condom wrapper one handed. Irony.

Dallas was expecting a quick retort from Judas, but strangely didn't receive one. Maybe she had judged his character wrong, but something told her she was at least somewhat right about him. She stared him directly in the eyes as he did to her. She saw a glint of something she couldn't quite put her finger on in those dark chaotic eyes, and decided to let it go for now. He was obviously attracted to her, and that made her smirk slightly.

She was about to stand, but was stopped when Judas suddenly knelt down and took her arm into his hands, inspecting her cut. Dallas blushed slightly, not from the close proximity, but from him noticing her wound. It wasn't a big deal, it was practically sealed already. He quietly pulled out some gauze and alcohol pads, setting the gauze in her lap. She watched him closely as he tore the packets open, his eyes gleaming with mischievous thoughts. Dallas wondered what he could be thinking about, and looked down. Maybe it was her torn open tank top, exposing most of her stomach, and her slightly exposed cleavage. God..men. She sighed and decided to ignore it as he tended to her wound. As soon as he finished up, she lifted herself to her full height and looked her now cleaned cut up and down. Glancing at Judas, she quietly thanked him.

"Thanks tough guy. That feels much better." She offered him a small smile, stretching her hand out and stroking under his chin lightly with her finger before passing by him. She wasn't going to give him too much credit for cleaning her wound, men seemed to think they should get something if they do a nice thing for a woman. Mostly having to deal with a bed and no clothes on. She then decided she was going to go into the restroom and clean up a little more. Grabbing her jacket she had scored at the mall, she headed for the bathroom and closed the door. Leaning against the door she sighed. She was exhausted, and starving. But first, she wanted to get SOME of the grime off of her. Turning the water on she started to wash her face and arms off, feeling better almost instantly.

He was looking at the scars on his arms. Of course, they were most all from him. "Never Again." He mumbled, touching the scar, but then cringing with the pain it brought to him. Zack walked outside and found Liam there. "Are you okay?" He was being cautious with what he said, not wanting to anger him anymore.

Tiffany Cooper

Tiffany had hunched over and was silently tapping her finger pads on the ground. She brushed the coral colored hair out of her face. She felt like a zombie at the most. She was tired and hungry but that wouldn't stop her from keeping herself going. She didn't feel at her best in the midst of the moment. Tiffany felt as if she got up she would just collapse to the ground again. Her normal sleep schedule was most definitely off coordination and she wasn't exactly happy about it. Tiffany stretched forward trying to work out any cramps that had formed from standing up for so long. Her back hurt like hell,

Rex sat in the corner of the room watching this new and almost laughable band of people he was suddenly flung into. It had always been his nature to read people, quietly before talking to much. He had always known he was good at understanding other, that was the primary motivation in him wanting to become a psychiatrist one day, though that day would probably never come now, regardless of how much these people would need counseling. Today he analyzed them for a very specific reason, because now these people personalities and how they meshed or didn't meant more then just a argument, in this new world clashing views could kill.

As he watched the exchanges of everyone, he noticed that several people were injured, one guy had an obvious limp and what appeared to be several third degree burns, and one of the young girls had what appeared to be a fairly serious leg injury, not to mention that everyone was cut up and bruised all over.

He stood up and decided to see what he could do to help. "Hey everyone, I have a lot of medical supplies here, guauze, splints and pain killers I can patch you up if needed. "

Judas watched her go, the skin under his chin tingling long after she'd left. He raked his hands through his unruly hair and sighed, pocketing the unused gauze. God....Women

And to think he was the cocky one. You get more people in your little zombie troop and suddenly the roles are changed. It frustrated him, no doubt about that. The way she looked at him like she knew exactly what he was thinking. Assuming he'd been checking her out when he was cleaning her wound. Yeah, he noticed her tone, sun-kissed abdomen that just so happened to be exposed. He also noticed her cleavage but both those observations had been made WAY before he'd noticed her wound.

Wait...that didn't come out right. He wasn't a pig. Well...okay, no, that's a lie. He is kind of but not in the way Miss Cowgirl implied by the way she looked at him. And that chin thing. What was up with that? She was fun to toy with, whatever her name was, but he'd never been fond of being played. Sure he found her attractive but he had other things on his mind. Sure he hadn't gotten any in a while but seriously, there were ZOMBIES roaming around.

He needed a smoke. More so he needed a drink. Where was that bartender at?

A quick glance by the door and two silhouettes answered his prayers. With his crossbow and quiver strapped to his back, he looked back over his shoulder once more to check on Lauren. She was fine. Sitting next to Tiffany, silently consoling the blue-haired girl. She wasn't touching her though and she seemed dazed, calculating almost. Good, Judas thought, let her think up a plan for the time being. He needed to relieve some stress.

He opened the door and shut it behind him quietly, unnoticed, leaning against it with his arms crossed over his chest. Liam was standing next to the kid, the kid seeming a little timid. Odd. But he shook away those thoughts as well at the smell of nictotine. Oh sweet Marlboro.

"You got another one of those?"

"Hey everyone, I have a lot of medical supplies here, guauze, splints and pain killers I can patch you up if needed. "

Lauren looked up at that, her eyes briefly--and almost out of involuntary impulse--checking for Judas. He was no where to be seen but she wasn't worried. She looked to the man in scrubs and stood, limping slightly as she made his way over to him. If he was a doctor, or even someone with any medical experience, she'd definitely want to be checked. She trusted Judas, more than she probably should, and knew his intentions were good. She just needed to get looked at by a professional. Her stitches probably needed to be looked at. Not to mention her leg.

She walked up to him gingerly, wearing a smile that exuded friendliness. "Would you mind helping me?" she asked. "I don't know what's wrong with my leg and my friend had to stitch up my arm. I was wondering if you could take a look."

"Several packs," Liam responded, pulling out his cigarettes. He also dug two full bottles of moonshine out. "This'll get me good and plastered." He half-smiled at the man. "Take whatever the hell will help, I can always find more." Oh the stores he could break into..

Liam opened one of the bottles, drinking straight from it, smiling as he did so. If he planned on sleeping, he had to get good and drunk. Wouldn't want any dreams tonight. The liqour went down smooth, and it burned; though it wasn't unpleasant. It was nice.

He had bought this stuff off some foreigner, some dude who called it 'firewater'. He never drank any other stuff of the type. It was the best for a nice, thick fog over his mind. The kid was to his right as well, which was weird. He didn't care how many moves the child made, he was pretty much done with relationships. Nobody would be able to compare to his last girlfriend. She was never sad, not until the incident where he ended up in a street drain. Oh, har har, how fun to reflect on times like those.

He would take a smoke, and then drink, alternating between the two. Already, he could feel that he wouldn't be able to feel in a little while.

God, he was happy he was a bartender.

Judas took the bottle of white liquor, sitting it down at his feet as he lit a cigarette. He took a long, grateful drag as the adrenaline slowly began to die down and he finally felt at ease. He bent over again, grabbing the bottle of alcohol and opening, downing a few gulps without questioning what it was. He had a pretty high tolerance for alcohol but damn. Whatever this was it was doing its job.

As he glanced over at Liam he couldn't help but feel the small amount of tension between him and the kid. Judas didn't know how to respond to it so he just stood there, taking another hit at the cigarette silently wishing it were something else.

He knew he probably shouldn't be doing this, that is wasn't logically sound to get inebriated when there were people that needed to be protected. But screw it. When has he ever done anything for the betterment of others? Well...other than recently with Lauren, but that was different. Damn it, he wanted his old self back. He wouldn't be letting the stress get to him if he was even a ghost of his former self. The Judas he'd grown up with didn't give a shit about everyone else's best interest. He only cared about his own. Sentiment was dangerous. Sentiment was a chemical defect most commonly found on the losing side. And if there was anything Judas swore to do it was survive. He couldn't die. Not yet. Not until he found that rat bastard.

Judas took another swig, and then another drag. "Where'd you get this stuff?" He couldn't help but ask.

Liam grinned. "Great, isn't it? I got it off some German or Russian dude when I was in school. I buy it exclusively now." He squinted his eyes, grinning at the man. "You are twenty-one, aren't you?"

He snorted a little, and kept on drinking, not really caring. Nobody was there to revoke his liscense anyways. He blinked, a little dazed. And then he looked at Zack. Oh, don't even start.. He ignored the small protest from his mind, shoving it out. "Zack, you have some of this, no freaking questions." And then he handed off his bottle to the boy, turning around, drunk already. His words ran together, and he laughed for no reason at all.

With shaky hands, he kept smoking, waiting to get his alcohol back from the kid. It would take, what, a sip to get him drunk?

He turned back to Judas, "Who are you anyways?"

Zack looked at the bottle in his hand. He hadn't ever had a drink before. Most likely it was due to the fact he was 19 and had never had any friends to get him any. Cautiously he took a sip from the bottle. He shuddered at the taste. How the hell do you like something like this? He shook his head and took large gulp. He took a few more sips of it then passed it back to Liam. That stuff sure does work fast I guess. He was already beginning to feel more relaxed. He leaned against the building and slid to the ground. Zack used his tongue and twisted his black lip ring. He looked up at the empty sky and let his mind wonder. Back to before his parents were dead. Before he was completely alone. Though even then, he wasn't happy. Never had he ever experienced happiness. Only pain, depression, and suffering. They were his only emotions now. He feared that someday he would lose all emotions. He was afraid of becoming nothing but an empty shell of a person. He was close, but not quite there yet.

"The name's Judas." he said somewhat slurred. Of course he was twenty-one. But he could tell Liam didn't care. Why would he? It was the end of the world. What better time was there to start a drinking habit? "I'm nobody important." He smirked, ashing on the cigarette on the ground below before taking another drag. He let out a long exhale, a noxious cloud curling in on itself in the space in front of him. From the corner of his eyes he looked at Liam, "Who are you? Other than a bartender, I mean."

He laughed. "Well, I'm probably the murderer of two women, I've been kissed by a man once recently, and I work weekends shelving books. During the day, of course."

The nightlife, glitzy and glamorous. He had heard so many hushed secrets from patrons too drunk to stand, met so many exotic women, gotten so easily lost in the glare of strobe lights. He could almost smell the cheap perfume and smoke that always hung on his clothes, in his hair. His time there had made him want to be young forever.

And he had tried to be. That, he supposed, was his one fatal mistake. Trying to hold onto something so conventially wonderful, and in the process losing the only girl that ever mattered. Woe unto him.

Then, the apocolypse hit. His sister had been eaten alive. He had just watched. Just waited.

He took another swig of his drink, smiling. "Such good stuff."

Tiffany tried to stretch her legs. Although her dancer and gymnast background she couldn't seem to remove the pain in her legs. Tiffany figured she'd forget about it and if she stilled remembered she would just check on it later. She put Amy in her lap and smiled. This dog had always for some reason made her so happy. Maybe I could be happy someday. Zack let himself flop over on his side. He was laughing at his last thought. Me be happy? I think I may be drunk. Never could someone like me be happy.

He stopped laughing and became serious. What have I come to? He sat up, crossing his legs and folding his hands in his lap. He didn't move for a while after that. The boy sat still like a statue staring at his feet. He started humming a song. What song is that? I don't think I remember.

Suddenly, as if his past slapped him in the face, he remembered. "MOM!" he screamed and jumped up. He didn't care what the others thought.

He remembered the one moment in time he was happy. When he heard his mother sing. It was when his father had stabbed his mother several times in the chest, attempting a murder. Zack had witnessed it. She began to hum the same tune as she slowly died. He didn't know why that made him happy. Just knowing that he remembered who his mother was could bring a little joy to him. Even though he was neglected and abused, he didn't care. He still had loved his mom and would always think only good of her.

"Damn, this entire thing is a big haze of depression." Liam sighed, sitting up, looking around. "If only we had some glitter and some girls."

He half-smiled at the thought, mind drifting to a wild bachelor's party a few years back. He blinked blearily, trying to see straight, but only seeing double. He drank some more, before falling to the ground laughing. "You know, I never thought zombies would be this fun."

He waved the hand holding the cigarette around, laughing, and finally resting it palm up on his forehead. "I'm done with women. God, they're such problems. I'd rather be stuck in a room with zombies than women."

Well that was unexpected. Judas looked at Liam wearily, sipping at the drink. Clearly there was a deeper issue here, especially with Liam. He was never one to take something at face value anyway. Whoever this guy was, it'd take some time to figure it out. But at least now he knew what was going on between these two guys. Got kissed by a guy recently? No wonder the kid looks so timid. And being completely done with girls. Liam was probably exaggerating but who knows.

"Mom!"

Judas was stuck in the middle of a rock and a hard place. It was the end of the world and now everyone was losing their shit. Seeing the kid without a drink gave Judas the incentive to give up his because it was pretty obvious who needed it more. He placed it at the kids side and took one last greedy drag at his cigarette before stomping it out on the pavement.

"Thanks for the drink." he told Liam, giving his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "I'd better go check on Lauren." He sent the kid a worried look before he returned back inside. He felt like the third wheel and he needed to leave. Best to let them work it out.

Zack didn't move. He just stared at Liam. "Well..." His voice was higher. More feminine. Almost, fully female. He cleared his throat and it returned to a deeper voice. "I uh..." It fell all the way to her waist. "It's been a while since I have seen my real hair. It's different than I remember it."

The girl pulled her hair over one shoulder and tensed a bit at the look on Liam's face. "Just don't freak out please. I know this is not who you thought I was. I'm sorry I lied to you." She put her head down and looked up only with her sad blue eyes.

"...Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me
..."

Matthew 27:3 - 27:10.

Scripture upon scripture echoed in the fathoms of his alcohol addled mind. He didn't stumble as he made his way into the store. Only the glazed over look in his eyes and the small blush gracing his cheeks gave any indication to that. Judas was accustomed to this level of inebriation, as well as the rolling testaments. He held himself in high regard, making his way through the front from without so much as meeting another's gaze. He was sick unto death from dehydration and there was only one place he knew there'd be water. The employee's bathroom.

He made his way to the back of the store, glancing at the weapons cache and making a mental note to ration out those later. The closer he got to the bathroom, the more scattered his thoughts. Soon the scriptures overwhelmed every logical thought he had in the crevices of his mind. Then there came the harsh crack of a whip, spurring his heavily lidded eyes into an almost comically wide state. He fell back against the wall in front of the bathroom door, out of sight for the most part.

Bathroom. Right now he needed the bathroom.

But someone was inside. Someone who, coincidentally, was talking about him aloud.

"...-Judas..."

He took a cautious step forward, standing barely inches from the door as he listened more closely. "...-know he's not the boss of me..." Judas felt himself smirk ever so slightly at the recognition of that voice. It was his cowgirl. Talking about him alone? In the bathroom? Out loud? "He was kind of ruggedly handsome in a way though. And the way he ran into that mob of flesh eaters..."

Interesting.

Judas listened on. He wouldn't consider it eavesdropping if he'd in fact been the topic of the one-sided conversation. He enjoyed the quiet ramblings just on the other side of the door. And in his arrogant musings it hadn't even occurred to him that the scriptures had stopped.

Dallas scrubbed her face and arms with water, the sink filling with bloody water as she got off all the grime from today. Most of it, at least. Having a quiet moment to herself made her feel more human again, instead of a gun packing, machete slinging zombie slayer she had been for the past day. She took a deep breath and studied herself in the mirror for a moment. God she looked like hell. She ducked her head under the water in the sink, rinsing all the blood, dirt and a little bit of everything else out of her hair as best she could. She started to comb through her hair with her fingers next, yanking through various knots and tangles. As soon as all the tangles were out she gave up, because there was nothing more that could be done; except for a blow-dryer, which wasn't available during this lovely apocalypse. Whipping her head back and forth a few times to get the majority of the water out, she decided to try and clean her tattered shirt as well by rinsing it out, since it was the only shirt she had.

Dallas removed her tank top and washed it out, squeezing as much water from the fabric as she could before hanging it over the towel rack to dry. She sighed and wondered what was next for this group.

"Seems like Judas is in charge....I'll have to let him know he's not the boss of me.." She muttered to herself, leaning against the sink and staring up at the ceiling in thought. "He was kind of ruggedly handsome in a way though. And the way he ran into that mob of flesh eaters...that was pretty brave. He deserves credit for that, at least." She thought aloud, starting to put her new jacket over her bare torso, save for her leopard bra. "I suppose I'm stuck with this group, but it just may be my best shot..and Judas seems like he's good in a pinch and resourceful. We have Rex also, so there's a plus. Not sure how useful the younger ones will be, but that's what us more prepared adults are for I suppose...." Dallas finished zipping her jacket up and took one last glance in the mirror before turning to walk out of the bathroom. Her eyes were downcast as she opened the door and took a step forward to go back to the group. Right as she looked up she saw him, but it was too late. She bumped into Judas hard enough to knock most people down, but this guys was a pillar. Her wet hair splatted on his face as they collided, and Dallas fumbled backwards slightly after impact, regaining her stance after a second.

"Jeez, did you have to stand so close to the door?" She said, folding a stray piece of hair behind her ear. Then she noticed how red his face was, and he had a hazy look about him. Her eyes narrowed and she stepped up to him, sniffing at his breath. Alcohol, at a time like this? Well, she couldn't blame him...she wouldn't mind a drink at the moment either. She gave him the all knowing woman stare and stood in front of the door for a second, blocking his path as she accessed him. "Do try and not puke on the toilet seat of you can." She said, a small amused smile on her face. He looked pretty plastered, but she didn't really think he was about to puke. He didn't seem like the type to do that.

Tiffany had stopped dead in her tracks. Was Zack really a she? Zack or whatever her name was didn't seem like the kind that could pull it off as a guy. She had such girlish feautres Tiffany was suprised she couldn't tell. "We'll I'd have to admit you're stunning. 10x prettier than me." Tiffany smiled sweetly and the young girl.

"Puking is for pussies," Judas stated simply. He was pretty proud of himself for not slurring actually. He looked his little cowgirl over and smirked, triumphantly, as the next words that left his lips rang out in a teasing, omniscient tone of voice. "Do you always talk to yourself when you're alone? What was that you said about me? Ruggedly handsome?" Judas shrugged, taking her compliment into consideration for only a moment. "Not the way I'd describe it but you can call it that, I suppose."

He wiped the water from her hair off his face sardonically, making no move to get out of her way. Judas smiled a bit when she made no move to turn away either.

The girl who has been known as Zack giggled lightly. "Thanks! But I'm so jealous of your hair. I have been since the day I saw you. It's so beautiful." She smiled and sighed. "Sorry I had to bring this out so randomly. I just couldn't hide it any longer. Liam kinda figured it out. And I am sorry I lied and didn't tell the truth to you or anyone else."

Tiffany beamed with excitement. "Finally! A girl who likes my hair color!" Zack being a woman was like a match made in heaven. "I don't see why you couldn't just come out and tell us or me. I mean it's the zombie apocalypse! We have much bigger things to worry about. But if you're not Zach then what is your name?" Tiffany asked with curiosity wafting through her speech.

She smiled and looked down at the ground. "My name is Annabelle." She looked back up at Tiffany. "Next time, I will tell you if I have something I am hiding. I can't hide everything forever!"

Dallas folded her arms, "Well, you've certainly proved you're not one of those." She replied, rolling her eyes a little, although smiling at the same time. Was this guy a hoot or what? She hadn't met anyone quite like him. She was surprised he wasn't stumbling or slurring his words, it takes some tolerance to fight that off. His lips looked cracked and she could tell by the way he talked that his mouth was dry. He was probably dying for a drink of water about now, or to relieve his bladder. She rested her hand on he doorframe and leaned her hip against it as well as she watched him trying to keep his drunken state under control.

Her smile fell a moment later when he announced he had heard what she had been saying to herself. She let out a small gasp, her cheeks turning a soft pink in embarrassment.

"Well, excuse me for getting a moment to myself!" She huffed, folding her arms and glancing away for a moment, her face still pink. She turned back to him after a moment, "Just take it as a compliment and let it go." She said, not feeling like dragging the conversation on. She was about to push past him, and then something caught her eye. A mark on his shoulder that very much resembled teeth. Her eyes widened and she took a step backward, looking alarmed as she pointed at the mark.

"Um, that isn't a bite from one of them is it?.." she asked, regaining her cool and stepping back towards him, coming close to get a better look.

"Hmm?" Judas followed the direction of her eyes and looked at the wound directly for the first time in several hours. Holy crap. He pulled at the to see a full blown set of teeth impermanently embedded into his skin, checking its depth. It was scabbing over, not too deep considering how well defined it was. A dentist couldn't get a better imprint of a set of teeth. He let out a laugh aloud and turned back to the cowgirl, smirking, "Nah, not from one of them. From a girl. Apparently I'm delicious. Someone you can really sink your teeth into."

He straight faced through his facetious comments, his eyes laden in playfulness. Before she had time to make a witty remark he crossed his arms across his chest, leaning against the wall casually. "Tell me something, because I'm curious." The cowgirl cocked a brow as if to say 'What?'. His crooked half-smile broadened, "What makes you think I'm the leader?"

One of the many questions he had to ask her but this one definitely made him the most curious. Him? Lead? Not likely. But whatever floats her boat. Sure, he'll lead if she wants him to. Especially now that it was blatantly obvious she wasn't totally against socializing with him. He'd second guessed himself but that blush had given it all away. Just take it as a compliment and move on? Very unlikely. That wasn't his style.

Dallas bit her lip when he pulled at the half scabbed wound to get a better look at it. Owch. That had to hurt. She was glad it wasn't an infectious bite though, she wouldn't want to take on the zombie version of Judas at the moment. She let out a breath of relief and relaxed her stance a little. She couldn't help laughing at his comment about the mark, getting a good laugh out. It felt good to laugh a little and let loose. She smiled at him, feeling her old self slip back into place, becoming a bit more light hearted. She had been a touch bitchy with him since the start, except for the kiss, he probably enjoyed that. Judas crossed his arms and leaned against the wall next to her,

"Tell me something, because I'm curious. What makes you think I'm the leader?"

This caught Dallas off guard, and she was silent for a moment, processing his question.

"Well, from what I can tell, it's you who had gotten the girls with you through the day...and also, you took charge outside after you let me in, leading everyone to safety before you fought off the hoard." She said thoughtfully, putting a finger up to her lip as she pondered a little more. "You're brave too, maybe on the bit idiotic side, but still brave. I respect that." She smiled at him, "You're a good guy, despite the way you want others to think of you. Or maybe you just don't know you're a good guy yet. A persons character always gets tested at times like these, especially during an apocalypse."

That was unexpected.

"Well, from what I can tell, it's you who had gotten the girls with you through the day...and also, you took charge outside after you let me in, leading everyone to safety before you fought off the hoard." This was true. He didn't think he deserved much credit for fighting off the hoard though. He'd had help. Judas would love to believe he was strong enough or even skilled enough to handle a hoard on his own but no one could do that. In retrospect that's probably not what she meant. He still wouldn't call that leading. Telling everyone to get inside, flinging guns at two dudes he didn't know so they could help hold off the geeks; that was all a spur of the moment thing. He wouldn't call it being a leader. He didn't even have a strategy. It was all just sheer dumb luck they made it out alive at all.

"You're brave too, maybe on the bit idiotic side, but still brave. I respect that." What's to respect? Him going in blind in the midst of a hoard of hungry zombies just to get his arrows back? Judas didn't want to think of it as brave. Resourceful, maybe, but certainly not brave.

You're a good guy, despite the way you want others to think of you." It was that comment right there that broke his playfully arrogant facade. All his life he'd had to deal with everyone's false assumption that he was some kind of bastard, some kind of loose cannon that would blow up with little disregard for those around him. He grew up going to school with bruises and no one thought it through enough to think he'd been getting abused. They just thought him a troublemaker and a deadbeat. A scumbag who got into a fight, maybe even got his ass kicked. Now all of sudden he's finally perceived as a good guy? Why now of all times? Why now when the world was falling apart at the seams. Why now when the dead were walking the earth? Why now when any day could be his last? He'd pulled a gun on a human being. He was forced to put a bullet through his friend's head. How did that make him a good guy?

"Or maybe you just don't know you're a good guy yet..." Maybe.

Judas shut his eyes at the grotesque crack of a whip. He reopened them, exhaling subtly as he tried to remain blase in front of the cowgirl but he couldn't handle it. Not when the same scripture tore through his subconscious and began to recite themselves more profoundly than he'd ever heard them before.

"...Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders...And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself....and hanged himself..."

Judas pushed himself up off the wall and walked around the cowgirl, leaving the bathroom door open as he put his head in the sink. With the quick turn of the faucet he took in mouthfuls of water, re-hydrating after days of going without. He desperately needed to sober up. Sober up and the voice will stop. Sober up and he could think right again. When he'd gotten his fill he simply stuck his head in, as if he could rinse away the insistent rambling of Iscariot's betrayal. He didn't know how long it took. He'd silently wondered if he was going to submerge himself into the flow of the tap long enough to drown himself when the voice stopped abruptly. The sound of running water splashing against cheap porcelain was almost like an answered prayer. The silence shrouding it was even more of a saving grace.

When he brought his head up he glanced over to see the cowgirl lingering in the doorway, leaning up against the frame. She was watching him, very laissez-faire, almost contently.

And Judas couldn't help but smirk, "What? You want to watch me piss too?"

Rex busied himself tending to the young girl. He ran her through a full sports physical to check out her leg. It wasn't good, the bruising and way she winced when he flexed it was a bad sign. " I can't be sure without an x-ray, but I think its broken. I won't be able to set it here without any way of knowing the extent of the break, but I'll splint it up and give you some medication to take the edge off. You will need to keep your weight off it though, so we will have to find something to act as a crutch." He patted her shoulder comfortingly. "Don't worry to much, you will have good mobility with a crutch, and you are small enough that one of us can carry you if need be, hopefully we won't have to move though, I am sure the national guard will be here before we need to abandon this place." He half hoped, half believed that. They should have been here hours ago if they were actually coming. "It doesn't seem to be a very bad break, probably just a hair-line fracture it should heal fine without setting in a couple of weeks. I can take care of it till then."

He examined the gash on her arm as well, "This isn't a bad patch job, whoever did it must know what they are doing. I am going to put some antibiotic cream on it though, as dirty as things are getting now its sure to get infected otherwise, and sepsis will kill in these conditions as surely as a zombie will."

After he finished with the girl, he looked around to see if anyone else needed attention. It was pretty clear he was going to be working on each of them at some point, but no one seemed in urgent need, at least outwardly.

He saw Ren and the man who had taken charge in the gun fight, over by the restroom talking. Ren was actually blushing, which surprised him, he didn't take her for the type to crush on a random guy. The guy was clearly inebriated, Rex frowned a bit at that, alcohol seemed like a bad mix with this volatile of a situation, but he let it go. If ever there was a time that someone needed help winding down this was it, he didn't hold it against him. He did make a mental note to watch him though, he had seen enough people come into the ER from drunken bar fights to know that alcohol can make people violent on a good day..... and today was definitely not a good day.

Dallas watched him take in her words, his eyes wandering as he thought on them. Different emotions rolled across his face, if just slightly visible to Dallas. He seemed to be remembering things, and probably disagreeing with her like most men liked to do when faced with words like the ones Dallas had just said to him. He looked like he was reflecting on things, and Dallas was quiet as he pushed away from the wall, slipping into the bathroom without a word. He stuck his head under the faucet and gulped down as much water as he could handle, letting the water then cascade down his face to help clear his head. Dallas watched him for a moment, curious about his reaction. Maybe she had hit a nerve or something deep inside him with her answer to his question. it was obvious he didn't think of himself as any of the things she had just said, and maybe he was re-evaluating things a little.

He brought his head out from under the water, turning his attention over to Dallas who was in the doorway. She thought maybe he was going to say something a little more...Well ...thoughtful. But no. His man mouth spouted nothing but a quip of a remark. Dallas smirked and threw her arms up in defeat,

"Nah, I'm sure there's not much to see." She retorted back at him, her face breaking into an amused smile as she turned to leave. She waved her hand as she began to walk away, "Have a nice leak!" She called back over her shoulder to him, heading back out to the front of the store where the group was.

She saw Rex finishing up tending to Lauren, looking a little concerned about her leg. Dallas frowned. Shoot. She hoped it wasn't too serious. A major injury will really cause a lot of problems for the group. But she would never think of leaving that young girl behind or anything. If anything, she would protect her and come up with a way to transport her if need be. She wasn't one to leave someone behind in an emergency, especially life and death.

She approached Rex, who had been looking over in her direction.

"Hey." She greeted with a friendly smile, "Thanks for jumping in and tending to that girl. Is it a bad injury?" She asked, peering over his shoulder at Lauren. "Do you need help with anything?"
