The floor glowed beneath them, pulsating gently. For a moment, Cress forgot where she was, what her mission was. She smiled, recalling what she was supposed to be doing there. "That's it!" Heron laughed, "hey, you're a pretty good dancer." Her hands were on Cress's hips, her grip oddly tight. "My Mistress taught me to dance, of course." Cress replied. Heron leaned in close, her mouth inches away from Cress's ear. "You can drop the act, I know that girl isn't Aine Dorones and you're not her servant." Cress grit her teeth, her smile tense. "What do you mean?" She gave no bodily indication aside from this that she was tense. "I mean, Aine Dorones is dead. It's pretty harrd to bring someone back from that, last I checked." The stick, she needed to get the stick.

The symptoms came on in the blink of an eye. Her vision blurred, her chest constricting. She slumped over, Heron grasping her, guiding her. "Hey now, you wouldn't want to make a scene." She said softly, her arms oddly gentle. She laughed then, "you must really be falling for me now!" What had she done? What had she given her? "That drink from before? Well, I might have fibbed a little. It was grapple juice, but with something extra special in it. A muscle relaxent," that was why her tongue felt that way, why her head felt so heavy. "Just keep dancing," Cress was a fly caught in a spider's web. It had been dumb to trust that her drink hadn't been spiked, it had been stupid to believe that everything would be alright. Ellie wouldn't talk to her and now she was caught by a knight.

The window shattered, glass littering the ground. Smoke began to fill up. "Oh great, just what I needed." Heron groaned. She found a chair, propping Cress up in it. "Just stay here a while, will you? I'll be back before you know it!" She thrust her spear into the thick, foggy haze. Someone else grabbed Cress, a familiar fox eared rebel. He grinned, Aya in his other hand. "Good work," he praised them, Cress realizing that it was growing hard to breathe. Her vision was getting spotty as well, black dots taking over. She could hear Xion's voice next, cursing. The last thing Cress saw before she passed out was a window rolling up in the back seat of a car.

❝My job is to make sure that the Princess is happy and healthy.❞

"Shiro?" The Queen smiled down at her. "Yes Mama?" Shiro asked, looking up brightly. The shock collar stung her instantly. "No more Mama stuff, you know better." Shiro nodded, looking down. Queen Narina sighed, patting her head. "You will be starting your job tomorrow, you've passed your training exams and will be attending to my daughter, the Princess." Shiro nodded, eager; she had been waiting for this moment all her life, ever since she had been found in the maintenance pipes as a baby. "I'm ready Ma-My Queen," Shiro curtsied low to the ground, her eyes sparkling with good intentions. "I know you are," Queen Narcisia ran her fingers through Shiro's hair, "but there is one thing missing." She smiled, "come with me." Shiro followed her, bounding after the Queen.

No longer did she have to wear the painful bindings that ensured she remained cute and small for the aesthetic appearance befitting one that served the Princess. Queen Narina had done her best to make certain of that. In the past, Shiro had received injections to inhibit any growth hormones. As such, her body did not develop. Her chest was flat and any womanly functions that one would normally have at her age never arrived. She would never be able to bear children or have her monthly's, but it made it easier for her to serve the Princess this way. "There is just one thing missing," Shiro's steps slowed as they neared the corridor she was most familiar with, "Wh-what are we doing here?" She asked, receiving a small zap for speaking out of turn. Shiro whimpered and sped up, remaining by the Queen's side.

They stopped outside of the door of the medical office. "Shiro, what are you?" Queen Narina asked, holding the knob of the door. "I'm Shiro!" She replied, slightly confused. The Queen knelt down, shaking her head. "No Shiro, you are a dog. A very loyal dog, it seems you still need to be reminded of that." Her face fell in confusion. A... dog? She walked into the medical office slowly, the Doctor there, waiting. "Hello Shiro, come get undressed and lay down." She nodded, still not understanding. She took off her shirt and skirt slowly, her skin unblemished, the Queen having made sure that any evidence of her... lessons never left marks on Shiro's pearly skin. "What am I doing here?" Shiro asked nervously as the gas was prepared. "Don't worry, you won't remember a thing." The doctor promised, pressing the mask against her face. "Count backwards from five." She nodded and did as told. "Five, four..."

When Shiro came to, she was sore. She had been positioned on her side, an unfamiliar weight on her head and behind. She sat upright, walking slowly, painfully, towards the mirror. Sitting on her head were a pair of sandy colored puppy ears and on her behind was a long, fluffy tail. "My cute little Shiro," a shadow walked up behind her, placing a hand on Shiro's head. "Now you will never forget. What are you Shiro?"

"I am a dog."

The pain was gone by the time the sun rose the next morning. Shiro awoke early, her new ears twitching at every sound. She ate breakfast on her own, in her new room that was attached to the Princess's, least she need anything in the middle of the night. Her new uniform had been delivered, modified to fit her tail. Shiro put it on slowly and looked in the mirror, nodding. This was it, the moment she had been training for her entire life arrived at last. It was time to serve the Princess.

"I believe it's possible." Aine said softly, looking at the clouds above. "For us to make the world a better place." She and Nee lazy on the grass, sleepily watching the day go by. "Will you help me save Ashia Palace?"

The sword swung, knocking the assassin back. "Nee, are you okay?" Itward offered her a hand, his brow sweaty, the sword too big for him. "I'll always protect you, so let me handle this."

The smell of flowers was strong in the yard. Ellie didn't believe Cress could do it, but the sunflowers blooming in front of their house was beautiful. "You like what you see?" Cress made a cheeky grin. "There's lots more where that came from. Here, help me with the seeds."

A castle of ice, a city in the clouds. Mother was looking at her, hands on her shoulders, nails digging into the skin. "Narisia, you must be strong like me." She said, a waspish tone in her voice. "Think like me. Don't let anyone break through your armor. That's the only way to survive in this world."

Narisia fell from the chair, the coils around her head dissipating. "Do you remember now?" Mother asked, looking at her with a dispassionate gaze. "Do you remember your true self?" Ellen spent the first few hours at a frantic pace, trying to return to Earth, to the Via Lactea Galaxy. But slowly everything was just as the dreams always told her. Those dreams turned out to be true after all. Ashia Palace was her real home, not just some fantasy. Her heart burned, longing to be with her cousin again but it seemed some things were just not meant to be. "Yes." Narisia said, her eyes glittering. "Everything's come back to me now."

A subtle smile grew on her mother's face. "Good girl. Get some sleep, I'll have a surprise waiting for you." She was beyond exhausted after being made to remember everything so Nee's eyes drifted shut, glad to have a chance for some shut eye to recharge her batteries.

...

After a dreamless rest Narisia opened her eyes. It was all so familiar, a large room of blue and white, a window showing her the beautiful glistening Lake Asphodel in the distance, separating them from Tartaria to the north. A shelf full of books about various topics, and a little table with little bits of electronics and machinery waiting for her, untouched since seven years ago. There was something that did not belong though, something that did not suit the memories she had. Who was this puppy eared girl? "Hello." She said simply, looking oddly at the girl, trying to puzzle her out. She was wearing the uniform for a Lady in Waiting. Was this the girl Mother assigned to spy on her?

"Are you my new Lady in Waiting? My name is Princess Narisia Seraphim." Well obviously that was her name, anyone could tell that. Her hands were twitching, wanting to get working on her next invention. Would her mother still entertain that? All her old stuffed animals were gone from their basket corner. Mother must have gotten rid of them all then. "My last Lady in Waiting died." She acted as Nee's double during the rebel attack, dying so that she could escape to Earth. Would the same fate befall the puppy here if things went south again?

The Princess was asleep, which Shiro had expected. She wheeled in the breakfast cart, her tail whacking her leg, a sensation she was not used to. She did not like it, having a tail, it was uncomfortable and heavy. Shiro stopped the cart, setting up breakfast and placing fresh gardenias in a vase. She turned around, her foot steps silent as she noticed the Princess beginning to rouse from her sleep. Almost instantly, her tail lifted, beginning to wag, eager, nervous. This was it! Shiro was finally going to meet her! "Y-yes!" Shiro swallowed hard, standing up straighter as the Princess addressed her. Narisia Seraphim, Shiro had comitted the name to memory from the moment she could speak of course. "I-I brou-brought you breakfast! If you're hungry of course," Shiro stumbled into a quick curtsey, keeping her head bowed. She couldn't make eye contact with the Princess, it would be rude.

"My name is Shiro and-and if you need anything-um-you can just tell me!" Shiro stood back up, pushing the cart over and lifting the lid on the tray. "The Queen told me this was your favorite, I-I hope this is okay." She placed the tray on the bed for the Princess to eat at her leisure. "I hope that it's okay, I took the liberty of picking out your dress for the day too. It's blue, which I thought would pair nicely with your eyes." She opened up the garment bag to show the Princess her new dress. The Queen, of course, had ordered dozens of new dresses for the Princess to wear and Shiro had hung them all up, color coding the closet in case the Princess ever felt the need to step inside.

"And-and I hope it's okay, the Queen has you scheduled for meetings with an adviser and tomorrow is the big ball to celebrate your return so-so, you have a fitting scheduled, but if it's too much I can tell the Queen for you and you can recouperate from your long journey back." Shiro was trembling slightly, her tail swishing back and forth nervously. She took a step forward, tripping on the hem of her dress and falling forward, incidentally exposing herself. Her jaw hit the ground with a thwack! The taste of blood filling her mouth as she bit her thumb. The shock collar went off, recognizing the fact that Shiro had messed up, she whimpered on the ground, writhing quietly until it was done.

"I-I'm sorry Princess," Shiro sat back up when the stars in her vision cleared. "It's the only first day and I've already fallen on the job." She tried to make light of it as her eyes teared up. She really was just a dog, wasn't she? Not even human. She was lucky the Queen had taken her in, not even her parents had wanted her, after all.

The puppy decided to introduce herself as Shiro, with no surname given. Surely any past life she had was overwritten and she was designed exactly to her Mother's wishes. Narisia kept her sigh internal and kept an unflinching gaze trained on Shiro's face as she spoke. There was excitement, there was also fear. The ice Princess spied a familiar collar nestled neatly on Shiro's throat. Of course something like that would be in play. Thankfully Nee already knew how to control that device. "Sure. Thank you." The Avarice Leaf Salad was supposedly her favorite food now? Nee wasn't really hungry, and she preferred seafood cooked by Cress's mother, but she wasn't in any place to complain. She took a few bites of the salad, offering Shiro a few leaves too. "You eat as well. It would look bad if my lady in waiting collapsed from starvation."

The dress was suitable it seemed. There was a whole lot to do already, thanks to her controlling helicopter of a mother. She was going to meet an advisor to no doubt keep her up to date with the current situation. Was she still betrothed to Prince Semyon Malachite of Tartaria? If it was for the sake of peace Narisia would be forced to live with it. Suddenly Shiro decided to trip over herself and landed on the clean blue floor, the collar going off. "Let me take care of that." The techno wizard decided. She found her old trusty screwdriver and got to work, playing with the wires inside the collar to fix it without setting off the sabotage alarm inside. "There. No more shocks." She made something close to an expressionless smile and put the screwdriver away. "I invented the collar, so I know how to disable it."

Were the puppy dog ears her idea as well? And the the tail too? "Just remember to pretend it still shocks you when my mother is looking." As Ellie she smiled sometimes but for some reason she no longer remembered how to. It was as if the muscles on her face refused to move. Oh well, it probably didn't matter anyways. "Otherwise they might get suspicious." For now it seemed that Shiro was her only ally here. She needed to get in touch with others to see how they were doing. "How much as changed since I left? Where are Itward and Heron Cherubim?" Heron was always a little stupid but was a good girl at heart. Itward was a genius in military strategy and no doubt was doing well in the Academy. "Or Corren Liefthith?" The sandy haired boy was always reading but didn't excel like she, Aine, or Itward did.

Aine... no doubt she was already disposed of. It was useless to try to ask about her. But if Nee could get in touch with those three perhaps she might be able to do something. For now though, she might as well make the puppy's life a little easier. "Dress me. Let's get the day started." Who was her advisor? Hopefully it wasn't someone who would be a pain. "And you can feel free to call me Nee if you wish. It's what my friends always called me."

The Princess was receptive to the salad, that was good, Shiro was glad that it was, indeed her favorite. She would make note of that in case she ever had to order food for the Princess. Of course, she wasn't all that great at remembering things in the first place. "Th-that's okay!" She said quickly, waving her hands in front of her. "I've already eaten breakfast." She had eaten this morning, her food carefully balanced so that she could maintain her tiny, cute figure. "But your generosity is amazing! It's just like everyone has always said!" Right, she was supposed to pour on the praise, that was part of her duty as lady in waiting of course. To make sure that the Princess knew just how amazing and generous she was. Shiro was glad that she was doing her job right so far, hopefully she could continue to serve the Princess to the best of her ability.

The Princess knelt down where Shiro had fallen, her neck sore from being shocked. "P-Princess! What if you get in trouble!" Shiro stuttered, disbelieving that the Princess would go behind her Mother's back like this. Of course the Princess had invented it, she was brilliant, after all. It was no secret to the Kingdom that Princess Narisia was the smartest, often inventing items that would help make the lives of everyone in Ashia easier. "Are you sure?" Shiro asked, sitting up. "What if-what if I do something wrong? How am I supposed to know?" The collar had been her guide, she didn't know what life was like without it. What if she fell and no one scolded her? What if she did something bad like sneak dessert and the collar didn't stop her?

"O-okay," Shiro nodded, she would remember. She wasn't a good actress though, no doubt the Queen would realize that something was up. She jumped to her feet, hoping to be of use to the Princess. "Itward Cherubim is currently serving at the military academy. He has expressed hope in becoming the next General of the Guard, Heron Cherubim is a Royal Knight and is currently stationed at the Blossom Gate on the second layer." Shiro supplied helpefully, hoping she had done a good job. "Corren Liefthith is taking in his family's footsteps and studying to become a doctor." Did she get all of the information out? Shiro hoped so, those were the only three that the Princess had requested to know about.

"Y-yes Princess!" Shiro rushed forward with the dress, assisting Princess Narisia in putting it on. She laced up the back and arranged the Princess's hair neatly around her shoulders. "N-no! That wouldn't be appropriate if I called you that!" Shiro shook her head, knowing that she would most definitely displease the Queen if she called Princess Narisia by her nickname. Still, the Princess had requested it and Shiro was supposed to be the Princess's most loyal confidant.

Princess Narisia? Generous? That was hardly the case. Who was saying such slander like that? The ice princess very much wanted to know that, but she wasn't going to simply ask about it. Oh well, she would just let sleeping dogs lie in this case. "You don't have to say that. I know I have plenty of enemies." Narisia's response was flippant, as if having enemies after her life was just another Tuesday for her. It was okay if she got in trouble for tampering with the collar. The truth was Nee needed to poke and test her mother's reactions to see just how much had changed, how much stayed the same. It would make it a lot easier to navigate her life if she knew the limits as to what her mother would allow.

"If you give me thirty minutes tonight, I have an idea." She could use a different method to help Shiro know right from wrong, if the puppy really needed that kind of mechanical reinforcement in order to function. Narisia wasn't a fan of using pain to discipline someone but unfortunately for Shiro, a lady in waiting was a very important position, someone had to be proper for the job. Shiro was happy to tell Nee all about a few of her old friends that she once knew, a long time ago. "No doubt some nobles will question my credentials. I've been gone a while, so I missed seven years of schooling." She sighed, looking over at her work table. Hopefully by creating miracles with the work table it would be enough to convince everyone that she was still perfectly capable as the heir to the throne.

If Shiro wasn't comfortable with calling her Nee that was okay. It was her choice in the end, something small like this wasn't really a big deal. "Okay. You can call me whatever you feel comfortable with." It'd be easier in the long run to just keep calling her Narisia, wouldn't it? Once Shiro finished dressing her Narisia's eyes peered towards the mirror to evaluate her appearance. "Well done. I suppose I'm ready for the tutoring session now." It was just on time too. "Come with me. Perhaps you could do a little learning as well." Shiro would get a free education just by listening in on whoever ended up being Nee's tutor.

The door opened to the tutoring room to reveal a pink dress and immaculate makeup and a snide smile. "Tutri Vance." Narisia did a little bow, mildly surprised. How did someone like her end up being the advisor? The Vance family had been going down the drains around the time Nee was sent to Earth. "I have good business sense." Tutri said with a simpering grin. "I'm helping my younger brothers learn how to trade to keep our family strong." Ever since the Matriarch of the Vance family died, Tutri was the head. The change in headship must have happened while Nee was gone.

"Then I suppose my mother caught wind of your tutoring abilities." Tutri seemed very proud of herself. Her ringlets were a bit overdone, flopping around as she talked. "Is your servant staying?" She asked, a pile of books ready. Nee looked over at Shiro for a moment and nodded. "I feel at ease with her near by. Don't mind her, act as if she isn't there." Tutri let out a tut with her tongue and put the books down. "First we'll have to see how much you still know. I have a test for you to fill out." She put down a second holopad then, looking at Shiro. "If you're going to be here, might as well be useful. A lady in waiting should be well educated to reflect highly of her Master. Take the test, I'll teach you both the ins and outs of what every noble needs to know."

Shiro was more than happy to supply all of the information that Princess Narisia felt she had missed over the last seven years. They were all just glad that she was back and safe. "I'm sure once they realize your genius they won't question you," at least not publicly. Shiro was a little bit aware of how nobles operated, their games and cruel jokes. She had never been the butt of them, thanks to the Queen, but Shiro had seen what they liked to do and how awful they could be to one another. She didn't understand why anyone would allow these things to happen, but she knew that it was best to simply keep her mouth shut and stay out of their way. "I-I can give you all the time you need," Shiro blushed, wondering why the Princess felt compelled to help her.

No one had ever helped her before. They would look on in pity, but no one would ever dare get in the way of the Queen. She zipped up the Princess's gown and tied the ribbon in the back, the dress fitting splendidly. Shiro had made a good choice, she thought, for this dress exuded a quiet power and elegance. She stepped off of the stool and quickly shuffled it away. Compared to the Princess, Shiro was tiny, but well, compared to everyone Shiro was tiny. After all, a lady in waiting should never be taller than those she served. "Yes Princess!" Shiro bustled after her, lifting the tail of the Princess's dress so that she would not risk tripping and hurting herself. Not like Shiro, who seemed to be naturally clumsy no matter how hard she tried to remain poised.

Shiro was familiar with the Vance family of course, she had sat in on plenty of meetings while the Queen was teaching her how to be a proper lady in waiting. She had been made to memorize herself with the names and faces of nobility, should she ever need to gently remind the future Queen who the people before her were. Despite many other of the palace servants, Shiro was lucky. She had been given a proper education of maths and science. She could read, write, count, and even figure out word problems, which was more than most of the servants could do. The Queen wanted to make sure that Shiro was a lady in waiting befitting of the Princess. Of course, that didn't mean Shiro was any good at any of those things, she had just barely passed the exams she had been rigorously given four days ago.

"Ah, yes!" Shiro rushed forward, taking a seat beside the Princess. "Are you sure this is appropriate?" Shiro fidgeted, but the holopad was placed down in front of her. She looked at the test, then back up at Tutri Vance, then back down. The questions were easy at first, they were basic knowledge like questions about the galaxy, addition, and spelling. They grew harder as Shiro went down the line, her head spinning. Each time a big red X showed up on the sceren, she stiffened, waiting for the telltale shock, knowing she had done something bad, but it didn't come. She continued, feeling tense by the time she had finished, getting more questions wrong then right.

Both Narisia and Shiro were sat down with tablets in their hands, a test of questions ready to be filled out and answered. Tutri Vance looked at them both with a stony expression, a timer in her hands ready to start the examination. "You were given a general education, but this is to ensure you're able to remain similar to her in level." She replied to Shiro's query about if this was appropriate or not. "You wouldn't want to embarrass her by only having a general education, would you?" The more impressive Shiro was, the better Nee would look in comparison. "You don't have to worry too much about how you do." Nee said calmly as the timer went off. "She just wants to see where your level is."

Once the timer finished ticking the answers were calculated and Tutri Vance examined them both. "You're behind in political science and communication." Tutri said, looking at Narisia carefully. "And your language skills need some work, but otherwise you're a little rusty but that can be polished with enough work." Next the ringlet haired Tutri regarded Shiro. "You have the common knowledge you need and scored particularly well in communication, but you need quite a bit more polishing to be respectable." This was just as Narisia remembered Tutri to be like. Harsh, stern, and very realistic. "I'm going to make sure you're both up to snuff. Every lady should have as much education as possible so she doesn't fall behind the men in worth." It was no secret that Ashia was run by a meritocratic algorithm. The more talented someone was, the more they were valued. The less talented you were, the lower on the ladder you were put. That was why rich families focused so much on teaching their children everything they could to make sure they stood out, as well as restricting education from the Rubbles who might otherwise surpass them.

If you could keep Rubbles stupid they would never gain value, and never threaten your power as an Untouchable.

A few books were put into both of their hands then. "This pile is for Shiro to read. And this one is for Narisia." Tutri decided, tailoring their educations to their own needs. "Just do your best. I'll also do my best to get you both back to pace." With that their hour session was over and Tutri Vance bowed then left the room. "She never cared much about status." Nee explained because no doubt Shiro wasn't used to this kind of treatment. "Someone like her could be a useful contact for later."

Next on the schedule was a tour of the barracks to meet and greet the soldiers. To Nee's surprise, her very own father was waiting for her outside her room. "There's my little girl." King Azel broke any hint of formal etiquette, never being one for that sort of embellishment. "And it's good to see you too, Shiro. I'm glad you two are getting along so far." Narisia smiled, her father's warmth and big heart was always a welcome treat. "She's been very good so far." The princess confirmed, praising Shiro for being a good girl. "Let's go. The soldiers are all eager to see you both." King Azel grinned, the crows feet around his eyes crinkling.

Special Episode: Night at the Cherubim Family

The package was retrieved safe and sound. Itward sighed, shaking his head. Why was it all on him? He didn't know why they were all looking at him. "Stupid old man." He muttered, tossing the signet ring angrily into the corner of his room, head in his hands. "What the hell am I supposed to do?" Zerath Cherubim died of illness and passed away in his bed just last night. With his final words he told Itward, the middle child and only son of the family, to be the the man to protect his sisters and the Cherubim family name. He was still in the Academy, he hadn't even graduated yet, how was he supposed to do something like uphold the family name? "I'm not some prodigy like Tutri Vance..." Even though her parents died young she was already taking good care of the Vance family. Why couldn't he be similar to that?

There was a knock on the door. Before he could say anything Beatrice and Titana walked in, his two oldest sisters. Beatrice was already well into adulthood and Titana was coming of age this year now. "Do you want to talk, Itward?" Beatrice asked, looking worriedly at him. "I know what father asked. You don't have to do it if you don't want to." Beatrice smiled, sitting on his bed. "I can be the family head, no matter what his final wishes were." Titana snickered, as if finding all of this to be humorous. "Weren't things going well for you and Aine anyways? You don't want your love life to get disrupted by inheriting the household, little brother!" Itward's eyes narrowed, his chest burning painfully. "Sh-shut up! Aine has nothing to do with this!" But didn't she have everything to do with this?

"Ever since you asked her out to the Fairyfly Festival two winters ago there's been whispers. Narisia even said she was entertained by it." Titana jeered, a mocking twinkle in her eye. Narisia was gone now though, and that hurt too. Aine was gone as well, his two best friends had vanished, leaving him alone. "Don't be mean, Titana." Beatrice's voice was patient. "Itward, don't feel pressured by him. He was an awful father to you, so it's okay." His whole life was controlled from the beginning. "Make friends with Princess Narisia." He told him. "Study as if your life depends on it, because it does." Since the beginning his father was grooming him for the role because he was the only son.

"Just get out." Itward sighed, crossing his eyes. Titana giggled unkindly at that and Beatrice frowned. "Okay. Let's go, Titana." The two older sisters left then, leaving Itward to his solitude.

It was far too late at night when Heron finally returned home. "Heron, why were you out so late?" Itward asked, he had been waiting for her to come back. Heron was the fourth child and she lived a carefree life, not even enrolled in the Academy. She never had to do anything, she had it so easy compared to him. "I'm always out this late." Heron grinned fixing her windswept hair. "You just never noticed because you don't care, Itty." He glared, running a hand through his own red hair. "You don't work, you don't study. You just play around with girls all day." His tone was accusatory. "Don't you know what people are saying behind your back?"

"Yeah. Someone has to talk to all those lonely ladies." Heron licked her lips, putting her jacket in the hangar. "What's wrong? Jealous? You're just like those gossipers. They're jealous of me too." Where did all of this confidence come from? Why couldn't Itward be like her instead of have years of criticisms from father echoing in his head? "As the head of the family, I order you to-" Heron buckled over then, as if someone just told a hilarious joke. "Hah! You, head? Just let Bea do it, she's much better than you anyways!"

Before Itward could turn in for the night a small figure came to give him a hug. A tuft of red hair and her tiny stature proved who it was. "Nio?" Itward glanced at her. Always sweet, always kind, just what was she doing? "Don't be sad." Nio said, still learning how to speak. "Big bro Itty smile!" She stumbled, clearly sleepy. "You don't believe in me either, do you." Itward sounded glum, looking at the tiny red angel. "Just leave me alone, Nio." He helped her back into her room and sighed, still rolling the signet ring around in his fingers.

In the underground cells of the Cherubim Estate Itward found himself wandering. His face was distressed, and he barely even knew why he wandered down here, mindlessly going about. "What? Do you look down on me too?" Itward asked of the only prisoner, locked up in the cell. Aine Dorones smiled serenely. "I always believe in you." She said, looking sickly and pale. It's been six months and she was still always smiling at him whenever he came to talk. "You can be better than this, Itward." He stared at the ring, sighing with exhaustion. "All anyone does is look down on me. That shitty Queen too. My old man too. I'll show them." His eyes fell on Aine, something between guilt and pain on his eyes. She was still bleeding but she still believed in him. She was the only one who didn't look down on him.

Shiro stiffened when they addressed her, she was glad that the tutoring with Tutri was over, it had been nothing but stressful. She wuld make note that Princess Narisia thought that Tutri Vance could possibly make a good ally and made a mental ping for later that she should probably write this down. Perhaps Shiro should be carrying around a notebook? She shuffled through her dress pockets, finding a piece of paper and a pen. Good, she could use this for now. Shiro followed Princess Narisia to their next meeting, where the soldiers were waiting to meet their Princess. King Azel was waiting for them, seeming pleased to see his daughter. He was less formal than Queen Narina, which Shiro had always liked, but for the most part, he had ignored her existance and allowed the Queen to do as she pleased.

Princess Narisia praised her, Shiro blushing and shaking her head. "I-I'm just doing what I'm supposed to!" She squeaked, looking away and scratching her cheek with the backside of the pen. The King led them to the barracks, where the soldiers had cleaned the place from head to toe. Shiro had been here once before and it certainly had not looked this nice. "They cleaned up so nicely for you Princess," Shiro said, keeping a respectful distance. She fell quiet after that, realizing that she had just spoken out of turn. She winced, preparing for the shock, then recalling that it would not come. Princess Narisia had deactivated the collar, but what if this was some sort of test? What if her kindness was only to tell the Queen whether or not Shiro was fit to serve her?

The puppy stood up straighter, her tail wagging in determination. She would have to prove that she was fit to serve, she would pass all of the Princess's tests! After all, she had gotten this far... "I can do this," Shiro whispered, lifting up her piece of paper and pen, ready to take notes and be the best Lady in Waiting that she could for the Princess. She followed the Princess, making note of anything that sounded significant, ensuring Narisia's dress did not get caught, and making certain that the soldiers did not try to touch the Princess. She wasn't the guard of course, but Shiro would subtly step between them, should one of the soldiers try to reach out or take Narisia's hand.

When it was over at last, Shiro was rather glad. She was already tired from how much work she was doing and how much preparation she had put in, but the Princess came first, as always. "Now that the tour is over, would you like to take a break for lunch Princess?" Shiro inquired, "are you hungry or thirsty? I can bring you snacks if you want to eat the King?" Her tail was wagging nervously, giving away just how hard she was trying to please the Princess.

Where Queen Narina was like a storm of ice, King Azel's smile felt like lazing about during a warm summer day. He took the girls to the barracks, an excited grin on his face the whole time. They went around the corner to the other side of Ashia Palace, where the soldiers were living. They had their own quarter where they lived just in case Ashia Palace were to be under attack. The on-duty soldiers lined up outside the barracks, in their white uniforms looking almost like wings emblazoned on their chests, the symbol of Ashia Palace. Narisia recognized a few of them as they saluted. "Hello everyone. Soldiers, say hello to my little girl." Narisia frowned a little,

Out of all the Ashia Knights as they stood with their salute, there was one that stood out for Narisia. "Heron, you're really become a Knight." The redhead winked, grinning from ear to ear. "Last time you were here I was just a skirtchaser. Sadly for you, I still am!" In Narisia's memory Heron had been lazy and unmotivated to do anything back then. She didn't go to school either, and only had a limited education. "Aww, Shiro, you little cutie, don't stand so far away." The other soldiers let out grunts, as if questioning just why Heron was being so formal. "King Azel, this is-" He grinned, beaming. "It's okay. They're old friends." The old captain sighed, shaking his head. "You're so informal, King." One by one Narisia greeted the soldiers, but Heron Cherubim was the only one whose name she remembered.

Eventually it ended and King Azel let them go. "I'm glad you're back home, my daughter." He said, his face kind. "Well, I'm glad to be back." Was it true? She didn't know. This was her true home, but life with Cress's humble family back on Earth was comfortable and gentle, an idyllic existence. She couldn't go back to that time though, it would be best to think of it as a dream, a fake world. "Sure, let's break for lunch. Lead the way, Shiro." Eat the King? Eat her father? Just what was she talking about? Narisia decided not to worry about and nod. "You can eat too. You work hard after all."

She retreated back to her room then and waited until Shiro returned with food. The little tech girl decided to waste some time by messing around with her work table. It was a kid's table and not all the tools she wanted were here to really start making masterpieces. Already ideas were buzzing about in her head. Once Shiro arrived, Narisia handed her a list of tools and materials. "Here's some thing I'll need to start working again." She told Shiro, then invited her to sit with her at the little bedside table to eat with her. "Let's take this table out to the balcony so we can enjoy the view." Lake Asphodel's misty waters was beautiful this time of year.

Shiro was a busy puppy, after bringing Princess Narisia lunch and maintaining that she did not mean that the Princess should eat the King, but rather that she would bring the King food too and getting flustered with herself, she brought Princess Narisia the requested tools. When the Princess was not working at her table, Shiro was helping keeping her on schedule with her meetings in order to play catch up over the last seven years that she had been missing. Thankfully, they were so busy preparing for the ball that the Queen did not summon Shiro to her side at any point over the next two days. The morning of the ball, Shiro awoke the Princess early to begin preparations, after all, they had to finalize plans such as flower color, music tastes, who would have the first dance, and making certain that the dress the Princess would be wearing fit properly.

Shiro, of course, was a mere accessory and while her dress did match, it was nowhere near as extravagant as the Princess's. Which, the puppy, of course, was fine with. She was a mere dog after all, she did not deserve things like jewelry and fancy clothing, as much as her eyes sparkled when she looked upon the gowns that the royal class and Untouchables wore during these outtings. "Princess, you look divine!" Shiro smiled, clapping her hands together when she saw how beautiful the Princess looked. Shiro's dress was much more simple, of course, but it had small embelishments to make sure that she would not look out of place. The ball started when the music began, Shiro remained faithfully by the Princess's side, at least until she rose to mingle with the crowd. When Shiro attempted to follow her, the Queen stopped her. "Remain where you are, Narisia can greet her friends on her own."

Shiro nodded and fell back, remaining beside the empty throne until the rebels attacked. She ran to find the Princess, locating her in the crowd. "Princess Narisia, please come this way!" The puppy squeaked, her tail swishing anxiously. She led the Princess to safety, Heron attempting to follow the rebels. The next morning, the Queen called Shiro to her side. After dropping off the Princess at her lessons, Shiro went to the Queen's Corridors, nervous. Her tail hung between her legs as she knocked, her hands shaking. "Come in," came a patient voice from inside. Shiro took a deep breath and pushed the door open, "My Q-Queen," Shiro curtsied, fumbling with her skirts. "Oh, it's you." The Queen turned to look at her, her smile pleasant. "Shiro, remember what we discussed before Princess Narisia arrived?" Shiro thought back to the many, many discussions she and the Queen had, had.

"Y-yes," she nodded her head exuberantly. The Queen cupped Shiro's chin in her fingertips, drawing Shiro's eyes up to meet her own. "I'm afraid... how do I put this gently, you've been quite a useless dog." She grabbed the servant by the front of her gown, dangling her over the edge of the balcony. Shiro whimpered, something yellow dripping between her legs. "Pl-please I c-can stil-still be useful!" She begged, attempting to grab the railing of the balcony, to bring herself onto steady ground. "Really? Because you've done nothing so far but shuffle the Princess from room to room, I could hire a real dog to do that." She grasped one of Shiro's ears, painfully yanking it upwards. Shiro whimpered, squeezing her eyes shut. "I-I ca-can st-i-ll help!" She cried, looking up at the Queen, begging her to keep her alive.

"Then bark for me Shiro, show me just how loyal of a dog you are."

"B-bark!" Shiro cried, tears welling up in her eyes. "Bark bark!" The Queen smiled, hope welling up in Shiro's heart, she began to lift Shiro back up, then stopped, leaning over. "Don't worry, a fall from this height won't kill you." Her eyes widened in confusion as she began to fall, looking up at the Queen as she sailed towards the ground like a rock sinking in the water. Thwack! She went against the pavement of the garden that Queen Narina's room overlooked. Someone screamed, a startled gardener perhaps. Shiro could not feel her legs or arms, her entire body seemed to buzz as she stared up wide eyed at the sky. She lay in a puddle of her own blood and bodily fluids as she wondered if she were truly still alive.

The ball really was more eventful than Narisia could ever hope for. All the usual faces were there of course. Tutri Vance was dancing with her two younger brothers, Alastor and Seville, all three of them looking quite dashing. Beatrice and her husband, Menad Liefthith, were enjoying a quiet chat together near the window. It was a political marriage arranged by Itward, but it seemed the two were getting along well enough. Heron was standing guard with the other soldiers, who would have thought a noble lady like her would become a knight? Nio was with someone who Narisia would never expect to see again. What was Aine Dorones doing alive? Wasn't she - well, she didn't know just yet what became of her after the disappearance. Some things were best kept secret.

Together with Itward, she cornered the fake Aine masquerading as their mutual dear friend. It was a fake, because of course it was. Nee wouldn't let someone besmirch Aine's memory like that, and neither would Itward. What made it worse though was the confirmation of something she hoped wasn't true. When the bolt of lightning hit, bringing her back to the planet of Ourania, Cress had been with her. Now she knew for sure Cress was stuck here, stranded with the Rubbles and the Rebels. "Stay close, Nee." Semyon rushed to her side when the smoke ball hit, Rebels surging in to no doubt help the Rubbles escape with their lives from the Untouchable Tier. "I know, Semyon." There was no love between them, only two young nobles forced to wed. His gun-sword was drawn, held protectively to keep her face. "It's good you didn't bring Una tonight then." Una was Semyon's younger sister, the princess of Tartaria. "She's too ill to travel." He explained, looking like a ghost in the fog with how pale his skin and hair was.

Shiro's voice was like a little squeak, beckoning her to go with her. Narisia wanted to rush into the fog and make sure her cousin made it out alive but in the end she wasn't given a chance to go search. "Go, we'll clean things up here." Semyon ordered and Nee nodded, leaving without a word, stepping deftly through the crowd to follow Shiro's lead. "What a mess. I'm glad you didn't get caught up in it, Shiro." She hardly went to bed then, staying up far too late at night working on a little contraption. While Ourania had developed gravity manipulation technology, the gravity engines were too big and bothersome. She wanted to create a smaller engine so that she could have a little device that could do the same thing. It would help protect her if she needed an excuse to fight.

In the morning Shiro dropped her off with Tutri Vance for more tutoring. "Is she not staying?" Tutri asked, squinting after her. "She might just be a servant but she needs an education as well." Nee shook her head, sighing slightly. "The Queen requested her presence." Suddenly a grin appeared on Tutri's face. "We'll put the books aside for now. Why not go see what the Queen wanted of her?" It was true, the lessons were better with the three of them like they've always been. "Okay." With her usual expressionless face she followed after Tutri Vance's extravagant footsteps.

They heard half of the conversation and then the entirety of the aftermath. Shiro was pushed off the tower. "Go back to the room, it'd be best if you didn't get in trouble." Nee was calm, she could handle this. Tutri Vance shrugged and left, making herself unseen. When Queen Narisia appeared from the room, Nee was standing there waiting. "Since when did you play with someone else's toy?" She asked, an accusatory frown on her face. "It didn't seem as if you were doing much disciplining, so I decided to help out." Queen Narina replied just as simply, a slight smile on her face.

"From now on she's to take my lessons with me and remain at my side." Narisia said, calmly stepping over to the balcony to gaze down. While she didn't yet particularly care about Shiro, it would be easier to keep her around than have someone else who was a slave to her mother's will. "That dog is quite useless, an education isn't going to do her any good." Queen Narina replied, not approving of that idea. "With a proper education she'll be far more useful than she is now. Unless you'd rather I jump off myself?" It was like a battle of two ice storms clashing against one another. "I already lost one lady in waiting. I'm keeping this one. Didn't you teach me to protect my own property?"

A new idea suddenly came to mind. "Do as you wish." Narina said at last, leaving the balcony. Once the coast was clear Narisia summoned the medical staff to go and pick Shiro up and take her to the room for emergency treatment. Narisia followed in, an idea spinning in her head, exciting her more than she wanted to admit. Wasn't this the perfect chance to practice a new kind of science? Biotechnology very much intrigued her. "Doctors, get her back to a stable condition." Narisia ordered. "Once she's stable, inform me so I can do the rest myself." One doctor looked at her questioningly. "But you don't have medical training." He said, furrowing a brow. "That's why I want you to make her stable first. Then I'll make use of my property as I see fit. I do hope there are no objections." There was none, of course, and the doctors began working, shooing Narisia to the waiting room.

Her vision was swimming, the gardeners avoided her, they knew better than to interfere with whatever happened on that balcony. She was going to bleed to death, wasn't she? Not that she could do much now. She couldn't feel her arms or legs. Her head was bleeding and her ribs crackled with every breath. The Queen was right, a fall from that height wouldn't kill her, but the aftermath, perhaps, would. If she couldn't serve the Princess or the Queen, she was useless. If she was useless, she would be sent away. To the Rubble Tier, or worse, the maintenance pipes that ran between the layers. What would become of her there? Shiro didn't know. Her mind twirled with the possibilities of what would happen if she didn't die in the garden, none of them were good. Tears welled up in her eyes, she had always been a crier.

"Shiro, are you alright?" Someone stood over her, blocking the sun. "N-no," a red armband? A Doctor? But who had sent them? She cried harder, wondering why she was chosen to live. "Don't worry, we're going to fix you right up." Could they? Shiro didn't know, she didn't even know what was wrong. "I-I can-can't fe-feel anything." Her limbs dangled uselessly as they lifted her onto the stretcher. "You might just be in shock," after all, they could not tell the extent of the damage from just looking at her. They placed a c-collar around her neck, making certain that if it was a spinal injury, it would not get worse with movement. The stretcher slid under her, straps going across her shoulders and legs. "Where are we going?" Shiro asked, suddenly confused. "Don't worry, we're going to take good care of you," someone scratched behind one of her ears.

An oxygen mask was pressed against her face as soon as they arrived in the medical bay. "Just relax and take a few deep breaths," she was instructed, but Shiro didn't think she could relax. She didn't feel the needle prick her hand or the delivery of the sleepy medicine. "Don't fight it," her eyelids felt heavy, she was sleepy. Maybe a nap would be a good idea, Shiro thought. What if she didn't wake up though? Would anyone miss her? No... probably not.... Shiro closed her eyes, maybe it would be better if she left, she was just a useless dog after all. No one needed her, she couldn't do anything right except trip over her own feet. "I don't want to die," she whispered as she drifted off, the thrum of machines around her almost a familiar sound.

They worked on stabilizing Shiro in her sleep, she had several spinal fractures, including a rib that had punctured a lung. Even with their advanced technology, injuries like these could still take months to heal and there was no guarantee that full-use of the limbs could be restored. The nurses cut away her uniform and cleaned up the blood and other fluids. The Doctor gestured to the Princess once Shiro was fully stabilized. "Alright, we've done our part. Princess, are you certain this is a good idea?" The Doctor asked. "I will remain in the room, of course, but have you tested this sort of technology before?"

It was time to get to work. Narisia wore an icy smile at the doctors who doubted her. "I'll show you why I'm the best engineer in all of Ourania." There were multiple problems with Shiro's body that were being highlighted for her. "We did a test, it seems there's some strange drugs inhibiting her growth and development, keeping her small. They could be affecting her balance as well, making her clumsier than she should be." The doctor explained, showing her the notes. "Her spinal cord was injured during the fall, and our current nerve technology is incompatible with her body." They managed to fix the lung at least and keep her alive, but functional was another story. "Don't worry. A body is just like another machine after all." She would rather the doctors left, but it would be fine, they wouldn't understand what she was doing anyways.

Her new tools on hand she retrieved from Shiro herself thanks to the request on the notes, she got to work. There was a lot she wanted to try out and test out and Shiro was the perfect guinea pig available to her. With the equipment available Nee did everything she could. For now the most important thing was that she replace the bottom part of the spine with machines to act as nerves to connect to her legs, restoring Shiro's ability to walk. Then she used nanomachines to cleanse her blood, clearing out the growth inhibiting hormones to restore Shiro's sense of balance. There was a dangerous light in her eye as she worked, as the hours trailed on by. It was very different from making machines, but very exciting as well. Her own custom lady in waiting, what kind of Princess wouldn't want something like that?

To replace the hormones she took a bit of blood from her own arm and after making sure they were both compatible, she injected it into Shiro's body, with a new set of nanomachines installed within. "What are you doing?" The doctor asked but Nee ignored him. Being installed in Shiro's body right now was a code that would force her to obey the person whose blood was inserted, in this case, that was Nee herself. This was the perfect way to make sure Shiro stay loyal to her and no one else, especially not Queen Narina. She then installed a food-powered signal generator, right next to the stomach. It would absorb nutrients and provide a special private connection to AshiaNet so that her mother wouldn't be able to track her internet usage. Shiro was going to be Nee's private internet connection, her own living router. At the cost of Shiro being slightly hungrier than before, but that was a small price to pay.

Last but not least she installed special nanomachines that would help facilitate quicker healing and a reduced sense of pain. As a side effect, the nanomachines would improve her learning ability so she would be faster in lessons with Tutri Vance. No doubt Shiro would suffer plenty of abuse from Narina in the weeks to come, and if Shiro could heal faster she would be more useful that way. Once it was all over Shiro was sewn up. Already the skin was being fixed, she would be good as new within a few hours. "Just what... did you do?" Narisia smiled, coldly at him. "Don't worry your cute little head about it. It's above your paygrade, if you know what's best for you." She didn't want a toy that her mother made for her. She wanted a toy customized by her, for her. This was the only way to make sure Shiro was someone that could be trusted. "All of this stays a secret. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be waiting in my room."

Shiro slept until the next morning, she was small after all, and the medicine in her took hours to wear off. She finally came to sometime around noon, a bit sore, but in hardly any pain. Was the damage that bad? Shiro wondered, that even her sense of pain was wrong? Or perhaps she was still in shock? She shivered, buried beneath a pile of blankets. She had, had a fever after she was sewen back up last night, her body attempting to adapt to whatever it was the Princess had done to her, not that she was aware that the Princess had done anything. "Good morning," one of the nurses smiled at her, scratching behind her ears. "G-good morning," Shiro stuttered in reply, tears welling up in her eyes. She was alive, she hadn't died in her sleep after all. "I'm going to call the Doctor in, once we're certain that you can eat, I'll bring you some breakfast." Shiro nodded, the nurse helping her sit up.

She looked at her hands, flexing her fingers and wiggling her toes. She could feel all of it, including the tube in her side to reinflate her lung. "H-how?" Shiro whispered in wonder. She began to tear up again, sniffling as the Doctor entered and wiping her eyes quickly. "Sitting up already?" He listened to her lungs, satisfied with their progress. "It seems your fever has broken, which is good." He pricked the bottom of her foot with a needle, Shiro whimpering. "Sensation is there, let me see your hands." He dragged the back of a pen across them, then asked her to close her eyes and touch her fingers to her nose. Even he seemed surprised by the amount of progress that happened seemingly overnight.

How was this possible? Shiro didn't know, but she suddenly felt like crying again. "I didn't think this could ever happen, I thought I would be broken forever." The Doctor and Nurse both had a pitiable expression on their faces, they were fully aware of the abuse that Shiro underwent, the entire castle was aware, but no one could do anything to stop it. "You're going to be just fine," the nurse pat her head comfortingly. "Now, how about some breakfast?" Shiro nodded her head, tail unconsciously wagging. "Yes please," the nurse brought her a tray, breakfast consisting of a bowl of fruit and buttered toast dusted with honey and cinnamon. There was milk too, for strong bones, since Shiro's had always been weak. Who was taking care of the Princess? Shiro wondered while she ate. She had to get better quickly so she could get back to work.

After all, the sooner she could work, the sooner she could prove her usefulness. After all, she did not think she would survive being thrown off of the balcony a second time. The memory of it made her heart squeeze painfully in her chest. Her eyes widened when something wet sat between her legs, her cheeks turning bright pink. "N-no," she whimpered, pushing the sheets away to look at her shame. She hadn't felt it, she hadn't even noticed. "N-nurse!" the curtain opened quickly, the nurse rushing inside. "What is it Shiro? What's wrong?" Shiro looked down, the nurse's eyes following. "Oh, I see," she smiled kindly, no doubt used to dealing with this sort of thing. After all, the castle only employed the top in their field. "Let's get you cleaned up before the Princess gets here."

After a quick sponge bath and change of gown and sheets, Shiro was squeaky clean. She tugged the blanket over her, not wanting the Princess to see the embarrassing diaper she now had to wear until the Doctor could check what was wrong. Would the Princess come visit? Shiro doubted it, but the nurse had said she would and just in case... well... Shiro didn't want her to know. She didn't want the Princess to think there was anything wrong with her, she had to be perfect, that was her job, to be perfect, to be cute, to never be taller than the Princess, to always be there in case Narisia ever needed anything. She was a tool, a dog to be used by her Master and nothing more.

"Good morning, Princess. I'm Lynnia, your replacement maid today. Now get up so I can dress you." An unknown and strange maid was here with blue eyes and orange hair that did not look good with her blue eyes at all. "Who are you? What about Shiro?" Despite only just haven woken up Nee was still composed and poised as she always was. Something like grogginess wouldn't affect her behavior. "Since she's still asleep after her fall, I was assigned to take care of you today." What, did her mother think she was incapable of doing anything herself? "Now get out of bed so I can put you into your dress Princess." Narisia rolled her eyes, wanting nothing to do with this Lynnia. "I already have a lady in waiting. You're not needed here."

Lynnia paused, gulping. "P-Princess, this is my job, so I insist that-" Narisia narrowed her eyes and it was as if the room's temperature dropped by twenty degrees. "I said you're not needed here. I hope I don't have to repeat myself a third time." The expression on her face made Lynnia flinch and the redheaded maid took a step back. "Ugh, like mother like daughter. I'm going to get in so much trouble for this." Lynnia stomped off then, leaving Narisia alone. Already she felt a little bit relieved that the stranger was gone. She didn't need anyone, but at least Shiro was custom made. "Ah, perfect." She input the password and connected to the special router built into Shiro's body. "Good, an internet connection just for me." Now she wouldn't be able to have her internet usage be monitored by her mother.

The ice princess decided to dress herself then, since there was no escaping being dressed. Thirty minutes later of trying to do this she ended up stuck in a dress, her limbs all tangled up and she couldn't escape. She decided to remain like this and not bother escaping the dress trap she stuck herself in, amusing herself by reading a novel on her phone. An hour later there was a knock and then the door opened. "Princess, just what in the-" Prince Semyon stared at her for a few moments. "We were wondering why you didn't show up, but I suppose you really are helpless. Here, I'll help you." The Tartarians that came for her homecoming party were due to leave tomorrow, so he and his staff would still be around now.

"How do you know how to do this?" Narisia asked, not particularly embarrassed to be seen in her underwear by her betrothed. He wasn't particularly looking in any case. "I used to help my sister into dresses before she fell ill." He explained, his touch gentle as he tied the corset and made sure everything fit nicely. "There, that should be gone. Do you need help with makeup?" Once everything was finished the couple left the room. "Am I too late for the carriage ride?" He nodded, smirking a little. "A little bit. What do you want to do now?"

His question was answered when she and he arrived at the medical ward where Shiro was having registry papers done to discharge her. The doctors were still baffled by how she was healed up like this so easily, seemingly overnight. "We should do a scan to-" Narisia interrupted him with a smile. "How about you let her go so she can attend me." He nodded, afraid of her, like all staff should be. At Shiro's bed Narisia touched the puppy's head with a slight smile. "Shiro, you need to wake up. It wouldn't do to fall behind in your studies." There were still books and articles waiting to be read that Tutri Vance had assigned them. "Shall we go back to my room?"

With breakfast over, the Doctor came to listen to her lungs. "Wow, that sounds much better than I was expecting." He nodded to his assistant, the nurse. "It seems we can take this out now and stitch you up," they clipped the stitches holding in the chest tube and put a few in Shiro's side to close her back up. The nurse placed a bandage over it, "you'll need to wait until your discharge papers are done before you can leave, alright?" Shiro nodded, feeling rather helpless in all of this. What should she do while she waited? She was still a bit sleepy from the surgery. She curled up on her side, the one without the stitches and pulled the blanket up, perhaps a quick nap wouldn't be a bad idea? She fell asleep quickly, her body still needing to heal.

Shiro awoke when someone pat her head. She stirred, her eyes going from sleepy to fully alert when she saw the Princess. "I-I'm awake!" She sat up too quickly, her head spinning. "What do you need Princess? I can bring it to you." She nearly tumbled out of bed, her tail swishing back and forth eagerly. "Y-yes, we can back to your room." She hardly noticed Prince Semyon standing in the doorway, seeming amused. Of course, in Tartaria, they didn't have technology like impants, so no doubt seeing a lady-in-waiting with puppy ears and a tail must have been somewhat odd. "Please allow me to escort you," Shiro fumbled into a curtsy before recalling the diaper and quickly putting the hospital gown back down. It wasn't exactly the most decent, considering it was open in the back.

She walked the Princess back to her room and quickly entered through the door that took her to her own room. Shiro wriggled out of the hospital gown and quickly went through her clean dresses, most of which looked the same. She took pause to examine herself in the mirror. It felt as though everytime she looked at herself, there was a new scar. She looked at the cloth diaper around her waist, her cheeks heating up in shame, and quickly shuffled herself into a new dress. "We can do this," she murmured to herself in the mirror, taking in a deep breath and stepping out of her room and back into the threshold of the Princess's bedroom. After all, it would not be appropriate for the Princess and Prince Semyon to be left alone.

"Princess, if need be, I can bring you two snacks?" Shiro's tail was still wagging unconsciously. Could it be happiness that she was still here, able to serve? Or something else? Shiro did not know.

Shiro seemed to be doing well. The nanomachines in her blood stream were probably hard at work to keep the pitiful thing in a healthy state. "You were busy being injured, so you missed a day of tutoring." Narisia told her lady in waiting with a tiny smile on her face. "Weren't we supposed to learn together?' Already Shiro was in a servile mood, wanting to please. Was it an instinct that was beaten into her? "You may wish to change out of that gown." It wouldn't do to have Shiro dressed with her back open to the world like that after all. "Perhaps after doing your reading I could take you two out on a trip on my airship?" While Ashia enjoyed its angel ships that flew in the sky, Tartaria had warships that took on the shape of dragons. Prince Semyon piloted one such ship, it was currently parked near Lake Asphodel's shores.

No snacks were necessary. "Let's read through the material and then answer the questions Tutri left for us to solve." Each day there was a list of pages to read, and questions to answer that they needed to submit as homework. "Queen Narina, my mother, gave you permission to officially take part of Tutri's classes, so from now on I'll be able to keep an eye on you." Especially so no one would be able to tamper with one of her possessions like that again. Narisia was able to handle most of her problems, and she offered to help Shiro as well, though the nanomachines in Shiro's body were supposed to help facilitate her learning. It was all experimental, but Narisia made sure they were safe.

Once finishing up on homework was finished Semyon was waiting for them, leading them to the docks. His dragon ship was pure white, looking like icy snow. "Feel free to come aboard the Forseti." That was the name of his ship of course. "Come along, Shiro, it'll be a nice view of the horizon." She stepped onto the bridge, which transported her up to the top of the ship through an elevator chute system. There was only a skeleton crew on board right now, but it was all you needed to operate the ship in non-war times. Ourania was in a state of peace, none of the four nations were at war with each other. Semyon took them to the piloting room, which naturally had the best view of the glistening Lake Asphodel. All the problems of the world seemed so small from this high up.

The gravity thrusters whirred, and the ship began to rise as Semyon manned the controls, the skeleton crew taking their positions as supporting pilots. Up in the sky they went, until Ashia Palace's circular city on the island became akin to a dot. "Look, we're almost at the clouds." Did Shiro like the view? Her phone was still connected too, it looked like the internet router inside of Shiro had quite good service even this high up. As they sailed across Lake Asphodel there was suddenly an alarm. "Prince Semyon!" One of the pale skinned Tartarians did a strange military salute. "We've spotted an airship of pirates headed this way, but we aren't equipped with our weapons." Semyon looked at them with a little smile. "We'll outrun them back to Ashia's territory." He said with an affirmative nod. "You two ladies should sit down, it'll get a little bit rough now."

"I apologize P-Princess!" Shiro hurried into another curtsy, careful to keep herself concealed. "I-it won't happen again!" Of course, Shiro could not promise that she wouldn't get thrown off of the balcony again considering she could not predict the likelihood of the Queen targeting her; which of course, was very high. "A-h yes! Of course!" Shiro bustled off to change her clothing, it wouldn't do to sit around in a hospital gown, it wouldn't be appropriate to be seen with the Princess like this. Once back in her uniform, Shiro rejoined the Princess in her corridors. "Yes, let's," Shiro agreed, uncertain as to why the Princess wanted her to go through these courses. Her tail swished, both eager and nervous. If she answered a question wrong, after all, she still feared punishment.

Even if the Princess had turned the collar off, there was still an off chance that Shiro could be punished. "Princess," Shiro started nervously, about halfway through playing catch-up. "I understand that you and Tutri want me to go through with these lessons," she was nervous, it was obvious by the way her tail was furling and unfurling. "But I don't understand why. I've received a basic feducation from the Queen n-not that I'm not grateful! B-But for a p-person like me to know these things... it seems... l-like a waste of time to teach them to someone like me." Shiro was expendable, she was one of the Excess, a breed of humans below even the Rubbles. While Rubbles could at least provide some services and skills, Excess were exactly as they sounded. They generally lived in poverty and disease, in the sewers.

Most of them did not live past the age of thirty and often perished from disease while working in the sanitary business. They kept places clean, but the chemicals used to do so often caused cancerous growths that killed them. No one cared about the excess, whether they lived or died. The only reason Shiro was alive was because one of the Queen's ladies in waiting had found her abandoned, after hearing crying in the ewers. There were no parents to be seen and she was brought to the palace, where she was hand raised by the Queen to be Princess Narisia's lady-in-waiting. After lessons, they were invited onto Prince Semyon's warship. "Ah-yes! Princess, please wait, your dress!" Shiro lifted the hem of it off the ground, not wanting it to get caught.

She had never been on a warship, she had never been this high up before either. She sat still, rather terrified by the height. When Prince Semyon announced it safe to get up and move around, Shiro did so cautiously. The view from so high up was making her legs shake. "Are you sure it's safe?" She whispered, afraid to so much as touch the bullet-proof windows. Prince Semyon's look became troubled. Shiro sat down, strapping in. "P-Princess, please hold on tight." Shiro didn't want her to get hurt of course. Her tail was stiff, giving away her fear.

Shiro was questioning why she was being pushed to study by both Tutri Vance and by Nee herself. The Princess gave her an odd look and leaned in a little to get a better look of the little puppy girl. "Tutri Vance wants better treatment for women in Ashia." She said, recalling the words the tutor had said to her. "So she wants more girls in the palace to have better education." Even in the Untouchable Tier, it was usually the men who went to school and the girls who waited to get married. The Cherubim family was a perfect example - because there was only one son, all of the family pressure and stress fell onto Itward's shoulders while his four sisters got to relax. "As for me, well, I think you're pretty special, Shiro. There aren't many people like you." The fact that Queen Narina handled most of the political side while King Azel took care of foreign diplomacy was a big question mark for many noble families. A lot of people even now still doubt Queen Narina and look down on her for being a woman in charge.

Shiro was special and unique. It'd be hard to find someone else that would live with the modifications done to her body the way both Narina and Narisia did to her. It would be a waste for Shiro to be replaced with someone without those changes. "I want you to be my second in command when I am Queen." Shiro would receive a high position to reward her loyalty once it was Nee's turn to ascend to the throne. "So these lessons should help prepare you for your responsibilities once it's time." It would be difficult, but a basic education wasn't enough since that would only put Shiro on the same level as the general population of Blossoms. She needed more to be worthy of being an Untouchable.

It did not seem that Shiro was liking her time in the Forseti warship. "Where's the supply room?" Narisia asked, holding Shiro's hand to try and quell her fear. "You just want to look at what machinery we have in there." Semyon sneered, sighing. "Down the hall to the left. But you might fall and hurt yourself if you try walk-" Narisia stood up despite the turbulence, deciding she didn't particularly care about the risk. "Thank you." He narrowed his eyes at her. "Hey, wait!" But she ignored him, there was something more important to do. The problem with her current project - making a smaller gravity engine - was that she didn't have powerful enough materials for it. Inside a military-equipped warship there would definitely be the materials she was looking for.

Down the hall to the room on the left the room was clearly labeled. Nee fell, almost hitting her butt on the metal floor when the ship made a sudden turn. One of her heels broke, but she decided to pay it no heed. Opening the room she was greeted to a great many spare parts, just waiting to be dissected. It was like a room of paradise. Her eyes lit up with childish glee as her hands gently touched whatever she could. She had a bag and began taking what she needed, placing them carefully into her storage bag before turning to leave the room when the ship made another sudden turn, and as she tried to fix her balance a large cogwheel above her head trembled in it's box, about to fall over onto her head. She didn't notice it though, she was busy picking up her bag of "borrowed" supplies.

Shiro was anxiously sitting beside the Princess. She kept her gaze fixed on the floor, hardly aware of her tail thwipping anxiously back and forth, or the Princess's hand giving her own a gentle squeeze to try and quell the fear that was deep inside of her. "Princess, you can't!" Shiro squeaked as Narisia rose to go and inspect whatever technology Prince Semyon had that Shiro could not provide for her. She swallowed hard, her tail no longer swishing. "Princess, please come back!" Shiro leaped to her feet, one of the crew members stepping in front of her. "Please sit down, you don't want to get hurt." She anxously sat back down, hanging on to the rails. "I don't want the Princess to be injured," Shiro would be punished if the Princess came back and had problems.

Shiro crept off when they weren't looking, following after the Princess to try and bring her back. "Princess, there you are!" Shiro spotted her, holding a bag of clearly smuggled items. "Pri-Princess look out!" Shiro pushed her out of the way. Princess Narisia was important, Princess Narisia had a purpose. Shiro was only a lady in waiting, she was a bug, a fly on the wall. The cog fell, Shiro shielding the Princess with her body. It hit her, crushing her leg, the cog rolling and falling on top of it. She whimpered as she fell to her hands and knees, the pain not as bad as she thought it would be. She could bear this, she could protect the Princess from this. "Pr-Princess," Shiro panted. "Pl-please ret-return to yo-your seat!" The puppy squeaked, her tail limp beside her.

"What are you two doing!" Prince Semyon had discovered them lingering in the hall. "Princess, I am relieved you are alright," he took a look at the bruise she had. "I said to hold on tight," he said and called over two crew members to assist in lifting the cog off of Shiro's leg. One of the crew members carried her carefully to the bench, "amazing, your leg is reforming itself." He breathed, looking at the injury Shiro had sustained. Shiro's eyes widened, the bleeding had already stopped. How was this possible? She didn't know. "Are you human? Are you a cyborg?" Shiro squeaked, pulling herself away and falling off of the bench and onto her butt. What was wrong with her? What was happening? Had the Queen done something while she was asleep?

With a thud Narisia realized something went wrong. A cog nearly hit her but his Shiro instead, who had somehow followed her here despite her fear of heights. Already questions were buzzing around in her head. "Does it hurt?" She asked suddenly. "What does it feel like?" While the normal person would think it was concern, Narisia was merely curious to see how her experimental technology was doing. It was healing already even under the gear. "It'll be okay, someone will come help us soon." Unconsciously her hand drifted to the tail curled up coming from Shiro's body. It was nice and fluffy, a weakness Narisia didn't realize she had. When Semyon came, chastising them and having staff help remove the cog she barely noticed, she was still touching the fluffy tail.

"If she's all healed up, then there's nothing to worry about." Narisia said simply. The ship had stopped, they must be back at Ashia Palace now. "And the pirates?" Semyon grinned, his white hair stark against the sun. "We got away. They wouldn't dare try to pick a fight with us here." The small band of pirate ships was vastly outnumbered, so there was no way they would risk a fight with the entirety of Ashia Palace's airship force. When they stepped off the elevator, Semyon gave a little wave and Narisia was ready to head back to her room when she was interrupted by a redhaired man waiting there for her.

Itward Cherubim grinned as he held up his phone. "I found them." He said with a smile. "The girl who was impersonating Aine at your homecoming." Her heart skipped a beat. Cress was found? And whoever it was that Cress was with? "I have my people looking for them now. Do you want to keep updated, Nee?" She nodded, keeping herself as composed as possible. "Please do." A frosty curve rose on her lips. "Someone who would impersonate my dear friend like that should really learn not to do something horrid like that." He blinked, staring at her. "So why are you still holding that?"

Holding what? Narisia looked down, startled to see she was still gently squeezing Shiro's tail. "It's just a part of being a Princess." She used to have a stuffed animal she would carry around with her everywhere, a big white bear friend. But then her mother beat her and told her she wasn't allowed to have friends like that anymore, and she never saw Honeybear ever again. "I don't understand, but don't do anything that would get you in trouble, okay?" He scratched his hair, looking oddly at her.

Shiro was staring at her leg, unable to comprehend what was happening. Why was her leg reforming? Why had she stopped bleeding? What was happening? What was wrong with her? What had the Queen done to her this time? She could feel panic and bile rising in her throat. "You look sick, here, drink this," one of the crew handed her a ginger scented drink and Shiro drank it slowly, holding the cup with two hands. The Princess had sat down beside her, she was stroking her tail for some reason. Did that please her? Shiro didn't know, but she wouldn't protest. The Princess brushed the injury off, saying that Shiro was healed. "Y-yes," Shiro knew she should not let it bug her, if the Princess was not worried, then she shouldn't be either.

Yet, for some reason, she could not help but have a sense of violation. Her entire ubringing was controlled by the royals, but she had been vaguely aware of everything that was happening to her. The fact that something had been done to her while she was asleep made her feel cold. Of course, Queen Narina had always taken pleasure in watching Shiro squirm. Was Princess Narisia the same? Shiro shook her head, it was her duty to serve, not to think. Besides, what was the chance the injury wasn't as bad as Shiro had thought it was? After all, it hadn't hurt that much... had it? She already couldn't remember. The puppy tried to cheer up, but she coudn't help but get the sense that Narisia was looking at her as though she were a science project and not another human being.

Upon landing, Shiro picked up the bag the Princess had been carrying, clutching it against herself. "P-Princess, pl-please let me carry this!" It was heavy of course, but this was part of her duty and Shiro would perform it. She followed Princess Narisia off of the airship and onto the solid ground, which was a relief to feel beneath her feet once more. Itward Cherubim was waiting for them, an Untouchable and noble. Shiro stayed a bit behind the others, wanting to give them space of course and curtsying when Itward looked at her. She held onto Narisia's bag, not wanting the Princess to lose whatever valuables she had collected during their time on the airship. Prince Semyon looked at her strangely, he had been staring at her for quite a while, Shiro realized.

In fact, all of Semyon's crew was. They were looking at Shiro as though she had two heads. She turned away, blushing, wondering what was happening. "Princess, perhaps we should go inside?" Shiro suggested, hardly noticing that the Princess was still holding on to her tail. It did not have true nerve endings, so Shiro had no sensation from her puppy tail or ears. "Sir Itward, would you like to come in as well?" Shiro could put up tea for them, or perhaps fetch snacks? It was nearly dinner time, however, she wouldn't want to spoil their appetite.

They were back on land now, which was a good thing. Shiro wanted to help carry the new materials she had, but Narisia didn't particularly want her to. Shiro was a clumsy little puppy, someone like her might drop them by accident. "Okay." She said with a slight bit of hesitation. "But be careful, they're delicate." They parted ways with Semyon only to find Itward Cherubim with the news that he might have found the two girls who came to the party, sponsored by rebels and acting as Aine and her servant. He grinned eagerly at her, wondering what her response would be. Naturally, Nee did not really want to find them. Why? Because Cress was there of course! But since it was Cress, it would be best to personally take part in the investigation in order to try and protect her.

"Once the time comes, invite me along. I'll help with the investigation." Narisia said with a little smile, knowing this was the only way to try and protect Cress. If she could find the machine that transported people back and forth to and from Earth, then she could catch Cress and put her into it and take her back to where she belonged. Nee wouldn't go though, because in the end, Ellen Winter never really existed. She was just a fake personality made up by an amnesiac. It hurt to think of it like that, but she had to stay here. This rottten city was where she belonged. "Then I'll begin preparations for the hunt." Special Enforcers under the Cherubim family's name would be hunting for the two girls now. "Don't forget to message me when it's time."

Shiro invited Itward in but he shook his head. "Sorry, I should go back home and check on Nio." He left, waving as he turned his back. Nee would happy go back inside though, she was feeling a bit tired out from the adventure today. Nio was a cute little thing, she always loved to sing. What was she doing right now? Evidently she was doing alright, Itward was looking after her. "Let's go in." Narisia said in agreement. "So they stop staring at you like that." Shiro belonged to her, no one else was allowed to stare at her. Nee put a lot of work into making Shiro perfect, she didn't want others to stare like that.

Almost immediately after entering the palace there was a surprise waiting for them. A flutter of red hair and a wolfish smile, Herno Cherubim pounced on them both, delivering a kiss right on Nee's lips. She blinked but was unphased as Heron licked her lips then pushed Shiro to the wall, kissing her next. "I'd appreciate if you didn't scare my lady in waiting like this." Nee pulled Shiro into her arms protectively and Heron grinned, a light dancing in her eyes. "Oh? Are you scared I'll serenade her away with my charms?" With a twinkling laugh, Heron did a little swing of her hip. "Don't worry, there's enough of me for the both of you pretty ladies."
