The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 10 authors
She could feel more thoughts and information flooding into her mind. If she could hear this much, she was sure that she could make a few sparks too. Maybe she would freak out little blonde boy later. She looked over her shoulder towards him, giggling evilly and smirking away at the cowering demon. How could someone who was such a beast be afraid of it?
But her question was answered. His past came to her the moment she pondered it and she was not expecting such a story.
He had gone to Hell. And feeling and seeing was he experienced already made her hair stand on end. It was terrible. She could feel the misery and torture all around and she suddenly didn't want to know anymore, but she had already delved and it wasn't stopping. A dark figure passed over her in this onlooking and she realized she was looking through Dorian's eyes in Hell. The figure picked him up and threw him far. She could see the ground passing him by and the countless amount of people that were suffering as well. But he started to fall. And landed into a pit of flames. She winced at the pure agony and horror that was experiencing and his screams were desperate and helpless.
She came back to Earth, a droplet of salt water dripped from the corner of her eye. She gave a heavy sigh and decided not to go looking in others minds. If his was that bad...she shuddered and looked away from the ground to see Jacob in front of her. Apparently he wanted to introduce himself. Before he got tackled by the guards, Baby brushed him off. "Maybe you should watch where your going." She interrupted before he tried to tell her his name.
Guards surrounded him and she gave him a little wave before they started hauling him off. She wasn't used to this much scuffle. It was always from her, but these newbies. They seemed like they wanted to be tough guys all around and it irked her. Why would you want to have more trouble then possible? The only time she ever rebelled was when they were trying to force her to do something she didn't want to. Or because she wasn't getting her way. But other then that, it tended to stay quiet around the asylum.
Baby leaned her head against the wall and gave a heavy sigh. While picking up her head she saw the blonde girl disappear. She was dumbfounded for a moment, her brows lowered in confusion laced with wonder. One brow raised as she heard the girl coming closer to them. Her hearing was too impeccable for her own good. At night she could hear the screams on the other side of the facility.
She heard the term "lil' whore" and she couldn't help but think that it was directed to her. Before she could event think her body started to shake. She clenched her fists and exhaled deeply.
The girl reappeared at her table again and Baby came to her, trying to keep a cool head.
"Ya know, it's odd that you would say that. I haven't given him the time of day and I don't plan on it. But all of you fucking little girls are all over his shit and you're calling ME the whore? Bitch, you don't wanna get me started...or maybe you do. Let's see." She adjusted her fist so her knuckles were in the right shape and slammed her fist into the other girl.

Other memories that we look back on make us shudder, they cause us to contemplate on why we did it, what we could have done to prevent it.
.... But I've learned to shut them off. No regrets. No remorse. I'm dead. There's nothing left to worry about.
Edith shook her head, having lingered outside of her 'room' for a while now, just simply watching the others down the hall and through the doors that would open here and there when a guard called for back up for the cafeteria. Another fight. How amusing, she thought to herself as she pretended to walk down the hallway. Truly, all that happened was a glide, though the softest tingling sensation shot through her body-less existence, causing the molecules that made up her ghostly entity to buzz, humming from the pleasure of pretending she were normal, that she was truly walking, that there was no transparency. She even pretended to lift up her hand and hold open the door for herself, though it didn't budge. She didn't have the density. She never would without some crazy voodoo or whatever those cracked sorcerers called it. Part of her longed for the ability to touch and feel things again, but on second thought, just breezing through the door as if it had no barrier properties at all brought the same rush through her.
The thought violated any body's privacy, and she liked that very much.
Drifting through the cafeteria, close to the ground as she pretended to walk across the floor, she 'bumped' in to another girl. She wasn't partaking in the fights going on, as it would seem, and looked completely and utterly lost. Confused. She must have been new. Had to be. Sizing her up in a quick 1-2-3, Edith determined that this one could be corrupted easily enough.
"Good morning, darling." The word poured from Edith's lips like a poisonous trap, and she all but expected the girl to talk to her like they were old friends with the way her 'charms' usually worked. But something was different about this one. - Did she have the ability to manipulate people with her voice, too? If she was affected by her 'charm', she didn't show it, or it was so little power to such a being that Edith couldn't tell. It almost frustrated her. "You're new here, hmm? Not going to join the others in the weekly brawl?"

Anyone with half a sense of the insanity that I must possess, can imagine why I think the world is better off with me dead.
Anyone with no mind left at all can only imagine how messed up I must be if I'm not using this to my advantage...
That's probably my sister.
Aiden had been up since well before the wake up checks were initiated to crowd the 'patients' to the cafeteria for food. It's not as if one was required to go, and some didn't, but if you wanted to eat, you had to stick to the institution's schedule or you'd miss out. Aiden felt damned if he did, damned if he didn't. Laying on his bed, on top of the sheets and such that he'd already made up an hour ago, he silently contemplated to himself the many things that buzzed through his head:
- Why am I here?
- Will this really protect anyone? What about the people in here with me?
- Can they really handle themselves?
- What are these 'meds' for? What are they doing to me?
- What was the point of keeping my sister in her own room when she doesn't sleep? Eat? Touch anything?
- Did they put some kind of magical barrier in her room to keep her locked up in there at the appropriate times, because she sure doesn't come invading my privacy too often.
- I hope she's not hurting anyone here. I'd feel responsible.
- I wonder if any of the pretty girls in this place are worth the trouble with all the shit they've got going on---
"Mr. Carroll?" Victoria, the nurse Aiden favored the most for her hospitality spoke, interrupting his thoughts. It was a pleasant surprise rather than a nuisance. "Just doin' checks, dear. Will you be attending breakfast this time? I think I saw your sister already head that way."
I don't know what for. She hasn't eaten anything since.. He let out a sigh, leaving his thought's sentence cut off before Victoria entered the room, white angelic outfit and all with a hopeful smile plastered on her face.
"Why don't you leave that worrying you do for the staff? With the discovery of each new existence comes a new idea for things to accommodate them. Maybe they'll find a way to make ghost food, dear?" She laughed, and it was contagious because it caused a smile to creep out from the corners of his mouth.
"There, that's the smile I look for each morning. You know, you have every right to live in this world. Just like the others do. You just.. Well, you're safer here, dear." She patted his shoulder, nodding reassuringly as he looked up to her in silence. He was always silent, but she still made a way to carry a conversation between the two of them. It often led him to believe that she wasn't just a nurse - but maybe one of those psychics or someone who can read minds. -- Scary thought, though! Aiden's thoughts weren't always pure.
"Come on. Let it be a different day. Why don't you come to breakfast just this once? Maybe something will change your mind about everything? Help you? Make new friends."
It's hard to make friends when you're on a vow of silence.. he thought to himself, but she was so good at encouraging him when he was against ideas that he shrugged, leaning forward and lifting himself from the bed. She moved to let him up, assisting him before he steadied himself. She got a good look at him from toe to head and winked, "Always looking so sharp, Mr. Carroll."
She was correct, as usual. Taking a side-glance at the mirror, Aiden allowed himself the small hint of self-esteem. He was a very good looking man, especially in his long, wrinkle-free black slacks hanging from his hips and the open white, rolled sleeved shirt he wore that hugged his shoulders and let the rest fall off his toned arms. He began to button up the shirt before nodding in confirmation of his attendance to the cafeteria to Victoria, who seemed to understand well enough and beamed at him, closing the door behind herself. "Enjoy, Mr. Carroll."
Leaving the top two buttons undone, he tucked his shirt in to slacks and slipped on a pair of black, sleek house shoes that were open in the heel for easy slipping, but with the length of his pants, gave off the illusion that he was properly dressed for business. Nodding in approval of himself to the mirror, he exited the room and shut the door gently before continuing down the hallway and through the doors. Another brawl... Better have kept away from the food. It didn't take long before he spotted his sister, Edith, who appeared to be hovering around a girl he's never seen before. He only saw the back of her, trailing the sight of her long hair to her waist before shaking his head out of the thoughts proceeding. He took a deep breath, attempting to avoid and step over the others who were otherwise occupied and made his way over to the civil pair.
"Aiden, meet the new girl. I don't know her name yet." Edith grinned her eternally pearly whites at him before flashing the smile at the new girl. She drifted to the side, allowing Aiden the proper amount of room to join them and get a good look at the girl. His breath caught at the sight, arching a brow as he looked her over from the front this time. There were no visible signs -- well, not to him, -- of what 'species' this one was, but then again, even he and his sister looked normal to the regular eye. He simply nodded to his sister, keeping his eyes on the new girl before attempting to take her hand and bow before her, bringing his forehead to the backside of her hand before rising once more and moving to leave the girls. -- Food was on the mind, and not even the pretty new patient was going to ruin his ambition of putting something in to his stomach. It was the whole reason he braved leaving his room and jeopardizing everything, wasn't it?
"Don't mind him, new girl." Edith winked at her. Though she wasn't -trying- to use her voice for charm, if any weak-minded individuals were around and overheard her, they might have their attention attracted in her direction. Being a siren had it's blessings, but also it's curses. "He... doesn't talk very much. Or at all."

At that moment she decided she would never give them what they wanted the easy way. No matter how much fear or pain it brought her. Taking the easy way out meant she was giving up, and she sure as hell wasn't going to give in. Missy spit in the doctor's face, which lead her to look her in the eyes. 'Big mistake' she thought. The charm was turned on again. "Doctor" she started "This man here with us..." she gestured to the guard "Does he REALLY need to be here?" she smiled as brightly as she could muster to add to her effect, and the doctor shook her head "No, I guess he doesn't..." with a wave of her hand she gestured to dismiss the man "But..." he started to protest, but the doctor threw him a glare and he left. "Thank you. Now, can you release me? These straps are so tight, i'm very uncomfortable" The doctor nodded and pulled up the straps. Missy was starting to get a limited range of motion back in her arms and legs. The doctor seemed to be conflicted in what she was doing and it made Missy laugh 'Charmed' she thought. "hand me the scalpel?" she asked, unwilling to be unnecessarily polite anymore. The doctor did as she was told. Missy took he scalpel and jabbed it into the doctor's nearest body part, her upper arm, and pulled down. The doctor screamed in pain and was instantly snapped from her charmed trance. At that point she no longer had feeling in her arm and she screamed for back up. 4 guards came storming in and all 4 shot a tranquilizer dart at Melissa. She almost instantly blacked out. The guards were told to beat her within an inch of her life. When they were finished they rolled her body onto the floor and dragged her bloody body down the hallway, leaving a trail of crimson right up to her cell. She awoke again on her bed, covered in what she assumed was her own blood. Pain shot from every part of her body and she knew she was beaten for what she did to the doctor.

Well...appearance was perhaps a little generous. He didn't get as far as a full sentence to them until he was engaged in a punch-up with a load of guards. Then a knife managed drift over from one of the tables and stick into the back of his leg. What the hell was that about? It was obviously an inmate, but what had the guy done? Aside from get into another idiotic fight in the cafeteria of course...
The culprit became pretty clear when a girl suddenly appeared at a nearby table..and shortly after she appeared, Baby flipped out and went after her. Telepathy again. It was generally a bad idea to insult people, even in your mind, if someone could read your thoughts. They started attacking one another like a pair of pitbulls and Meddie felt herself losing the will to live.
"This is fucking ridiculous..." the gorgon muttered.
Perhaps it was just a slightly gratifying fact that she knew she could drop pretty much anyone in the room if she could get her mask off. Not that she'd want to do something that even if she had an option. Meddie didn't like using her powers, even as a matter of self-defense. Sometimes it was necessary, but in all honesty she would give up the power to petrify in a heartbeat if she was offered the option.
It tore it when the Jake fellow managed to turn all the lights out, and get a bunch of guards charging after him. Meddie was slammed into in the commotion and pushed to the ground, sending a jolt of pain up through her knee and causing her to snap.
"Were you all raised in a god damn barn?! It's like a fucking chimp's tea party this morning! Why don't you just start throwing your shit around while you're at it?! I spend all my fucking time trying to act civilized so I can try and give people an impression that I'm not a monster...but you people just don't care what humanity thinks of us, do you?! I hope you're proud of your legacy."
She limped over to a table and dropped into a sitting position, sitting her bowl of cereal on her lap.
She really did wonder what the point was sometimes. She'd been raised to be civilized, to identify with humanity...even though her species were by and large, vicious ambush predators. She wanted to fit in with creatures that were, as far as nature was concerned, her food. Still, Meddie had nothing against humanity. She would love to fit in with them. Snake hair and a face the could cause instant death however, meant she could never really hide in the human race...so she had to try and set an example as she was. Meddie had to try and be peaceful and polite....but most of the inmates didn't seem to care what effect their behaviour had. They were just interested in showing how tough they were. She doubted most of them had any idea of what dignity meant. Sometimes she felt like apologizing on behalf of the supernatural community.
By the time the events behind him in the cafeteria were cooling down -- or at least being settled by the guards -- most of the cooking staff had made themselves scarce. Rolling his eyes, annoyed with his supernatural inmates, Aiden reached over the counter and helped himself to the tiny boxes of cereal that one usually finds in school cafeteria. What is the point of a box this size? A serving size? Really? On that note, he grabbed two more boxes, reached for a plastic spoon that was wrapped up in sanitation plastic, and a paper bowl. He wasn't sure if the rule applied to everyone, or just him, but he was under regulation not to ever eat off of regular bowls and use normal silverware. He wasn't even permitted to throw away his plastics and paper. Instead, he had to hand them in to the guard or nurse at the exit of the room, so that they kept record of if he attempted to bring it to his room or even ate.
When he first got here, he thought the rule was stupid, but as time went on and the desire to use the utensils to rid the world of himself grew... He understood pretty clearly why they kept him so tightly protected.
He borrowed the counter to pour out the contents of his cereal into the bowl, tossed out the three boxes, and then made his way over to the drinks station, which among other things and flavors, milk in tiny cartons were in a mini-fridge. Reaching in and grabbing two cartons, one for the bowl and one for himself, he looked over his shoulder to see what was left of the room to inhabit in civilized eating habits. Naturally, by now, the lights were out and flickering as the staff attempted to restore power, and everyone who had been involved appeared to either be exiting, or being escorted. All that appeared to be left was his sister, the new girl, ... and Medusa.
Snakes. Man, she can't even -hide- her species from the world. What life must be like for her.. He didn't see her often, but when he did see her and others like her - altered physically by their species or supernatural abilities - he would almost always act upon sympathy or empathy, reflecting in his mind about how much harder things must be for them than his own problems. He wasn't sure if he did this to keep him from wanting to kill himself, the meds, or if he actually gave a damn about some people in this place, but his feelings were undeniably true.
After a moment's contemplation, he walked over to sit next to her at the table she managed to find that hadn't been destroyed or otherwise damaged. He didn't look at her. Even with the precautions she took to keep her eyes off anyone, he still got creeped out. Just a little, though. He felt it was no more odd that she be limited by sight than he by voice. And besides, if she couldn't look at him and make eye contact without turning him to stone - or whatever she may be capable of as a modern day gorgon (he wasn't sure) - what was the point of his own attempt?
Still, out of habit, he nodded in her direction before proceeding to chow down.
A deep bellow of laughter was above him and he turned his head toward the direction of the sound. He couldn't make out what his eyes were trying to tell him, but he could feel what presence was towering over him. He felt so small until there was a bright, red light surrounding the unknown shadow and from it appeared a very fit and handsome male dressed in a three piece suit. He had facial hair and the dark hair on his head was perfectly combed. Accentuating his black jacket was a red rose accompanied with thorns and all. And at his feet, he had missed a very large snake, an anaconda. He wasn't afraid of snakes, but the way this one looked at him with it's yellow eyes made him want to shit his pants.
The man cleared his throat, a solid smirk plastered on his face that had not left from the moment he had appeared from the smoke and light.
"I am sure that you are aware of who I am, Dorian." The blonde boy could only nod. The man chuckled.
"Then address me as you see fit." He demanded. Dorian gave a slow sigh and mumbled, "Satan." The man bursted with laughter and came to him, sliding his hand under his jaw and tilting his chin up.
"Let me look at you." The snake had followed him and stayed near his feet, steadily hissing.
"Yes, you do seem the type. A little too scared though. We plan to fix that. Give you a sturdy heart. Your soul, however. Well, it could use some work. It isn't nearly black enough. You may have killed people in your past, Dorian, but you must murder many more to get the blessing." Dark cackling surrounded him.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Dorian's eyes attempted to open themselves, but they were heavy. His past memories kept him tied down, but he heard voices and movement. Curses and threats. Things being shoved and yelling. He opened his eyes again, but was met with darkness that lasted momentarily. His vision was skewered when the lights flickered back to life. His sight was still a bit glossy, everything blurry after being knocked out so long.
"Shit..." He murmured. Then he remembered why he had passed out. It had been from the fire. He gulped and looked around but saw that the girl who had caused it had been taken away. He sighed in relief and slowly picked himself up.
The room was much more scarce. There were only a few others in it and he wondered what all had happened.
He looked towards the girl he had last talked to and she did not look happy.
"Medusa, right?" He asked quietly as he came to sit next to her.
"Seems like they got into it again, I see. Are you alright?" He felt sorry for her because he was sure that it was her he had heard yelling about one thing or another, going back to it all he could make out was her saying "I hope you're proud of your legacy".
His eyebrows lowered in concern until a guard came through the doors with a few pairs of cuffs.
"Time for you kids to go to the recreation room. The doctor suggested we put these on you." He laughed almost evilly as two more men came in as well who were buff as hell.
Dorian rolled his eyes and before standing up said, "We can talk later, okay? When you want." He slid his hand to her back and rubbed her for a moment before lightly patting her as he walked away.
He let the guard cuff him and he walked back down the long hallway towards the room he had seen before. It looked inviting enough and he was glad to be away from all of the hospital-like environment.
He looked around a moment then was surprised to see a few sets of paints and canvases which he took one of each, then went to one of the two easels that had been set up, but for the moment, he had no idea what his subject would be.
. . . . .
Baby kicked and swung over and over. She was used to fights and in her free time she had been swimming a lot and gaining plenty of muscles, but the girl didn't seem like she wanted to look pitiful and hit her a few times. She wasn't sure how much damage she had inflicted, but when the guard pulled her off she began laughing heartily. She could feel the blood trickle down the corner of her mouth and her eye was throbbing but she didn't even notice. She was smitten with the girls pursuit to get under her skin. She was begging to go back to her room now and that only made the blonde girl laugh harder.
"Yeah, go ahead and run. You say it isn't over but you don't know who I am. I have a reputation for killing other inmates, so watch your back, blondie."
The guard tugged her back and she lowered her eyebrows and looked up but they raised immediately and her mouth slightly opened.
"Michael?" She asked quietly. But he looked at her with a stern look and shushed her so she listened. She didn't struggle against his hold any longer and he held her until the other men had taken Chloe out.
He let her walk and he glanced down the hallway to be sure that they had gone and once they were away from the others in the cafeteria he pinned her against the wall.
"Babes, what are you doing getting into fights like this." He held his hand up towards where they'd taken her. To the back. The the labs. Where she dreaded to go for a second time that day.
"I thought you had ended this. We talked about it." He was basically cooing at her and he held her face in his hands but she wouldn't look at him.
"You're not going back there, I can promise you that." Her face lit up and she smiled.
"Really? I don't have to?"
"There's the smile I was looking for. No, you don't have to go. The doctor requested to see you."
Her face fell again and she groaned.
"She's going to fill me up on syringes, Michael."
"Whatever helps."
Baby's features became opposite.
"Are you fucking serious? I thought you were a good guy!" She didn't realize that she was yelling.
"Baby, baby girl, calm down. Being bipolar, well it needs to be handled, then maybe you won't get into all of these fights." He tried tugging her towards the office, but she resisted against him.
"Don't make me force you." He pleaded, looking into her blue eyes. She sighed deeply, really not wanting anymore medications put into her then truly necessary so she walked close behind him, keeping her head down and not saying a word.
She started to crawl, slowly and quietly, looking down every vent shaft for which rooms were which. After about 10 minutes of crawling it started to get hot. Really hot. almost like the vents were set to heat... "Shit!" she whispered as she crawled a bit faster. She was sweating and gross until she finally found what she was looking for. Through the vent she could see a male, and paints! She loved painting and she figured since there was a patient already there, it must be safe. She opened the vent, putting the lid inside the vent and slipped out. Landing on her two feet, right next to the guy. She wiped herself off as she sat on the stool next to him. "Oh hey!" She said out of breath. She picked up one of the paint brushes and dipped it in water. "what are you going to paint there?" She said looking at him, still panting.

He rolled her into the room and placed her in front of a table, flopping paper and crayons down in front of her. 'What am I 6?' she thought, staring at the crayons. The guard watched her as she sat there, but she didn't move.
"Morning." she greeted quietly, figuring she should offer some common courtesy to the fellow, even if he wasn't endeavoring to speak to her. He wasn't actively avoiding her...and when you wer epartially scaly and had snakes for hair..that had to count for something, she thought.
Not long after that, the young man named Dorian made his way over, apparently having recovered himself. She decided it would be a bit insensitive to ask what that had been all about. If he didn't want to talk about it, she wasn't planning to push...and hopefully he'd return the sentiment.
"Yup. Everyone is apparently a wannabe Muhammed Ali this morning. It's getting really, really tiresome." she sighed as she finished eating the cereal and set the empty bowl down on the table.
"Some heavy ran into me while he was chasing one of the idiots and I hit my knee. Just a bruise or something I imagine."
She looked up as she was approached by the guards, brandishing the cuffs and implying that she was supposed to have them on her wrists for the duration of then trip to the rec room.
"Of course....just in case the person with the deadly gaze and the venomous hair suddenly decides 'you know, fuck that, I'll start punching people'...but whatever..it's your funding you're wasting on buying cuffs for me.."
The gorgon extended her gloved hands out in front of her, the cuffs were snapped onto her wrists and she followed without complaint to the recreation room. Once there her hands were freed and she made her way to a seat, dropping down and pulling out the book she'd been carrying, intent on finishing 'The Fall of The House of Usher'...that was until she found herself taking note of who was in the room.
She caught sight of the Dorian, who'd gone over to the art supplies. Medusa had never really bothered with them, as the plates of her mask distorted her perception of colour. It was too difficult to try and work out how a picture might look without the tinting. That was not her concern however, and more that the girl who'd just called Baby a 'whore' and started the recent fight was standing there. There was no way that she'd be just allowed back unless either the staff were really playing favorites...or she'd snuck off.
"Can't even face up to the consequences of your behaviour?" she remarked irritably to the girl, raising her voice a little to be heard, though keeping her gaze turned to the book. The snakes raised their heads, alerted to their owner's anger.
"You stab someone, call someone else a whore, get into a fight....god knows what's likely to happy to Baby seeing as she's already gotten carted off once today...and you think you can just wander in here? You're going to get into trouble and I'd suggest you didn't drag anybody else into it."
After her very brief conversation with the 'new girl', Edith let her gaze slip protectively to her brother. Snakes wasn't in any position that showed hostility, nor was the guy who joined her with the guards soon after, offering cuffs to escort them out and to recreation, no doubt. Edith's eyes twinkled with delight as she slipped away from the new girl's presence, moving to hover near her brother as the guards moved to him, offering the cuffs and the opportunity for Aiden to come willingly.
Placing her icy fingers on her brother's shoulders - or pretending to - Edith gazed at the guard's eyes, her voice full of venomous charm, "I don't think those will be necessary, boys. You work so hard keeping this place run properly, dealing with all those 'bad ones' ... Why don't you two grab yourselves some breakfast and I'll escort him instead. You'll be good, won't you, Aiden?" She turned her head, her gaze from the men to her brother with a smile. He returned a look not so pleasant - but she ignored it, winking as she bowed to the ever consenting guards, making their way over to the left overs.
Aiden let out a sigh, placing his bowl on to the table, rising from his chair, and then making little to no objection physically to moving to the recreational room. Even if he didn't bother to map the place out in his mind, he knew where he was going thanks to the other guards who were still escorting Medusa. Following in after her, Edith right behind him, he took a look at today's activity and let out a soft sigh, opting to sneak a smile in before his sister glared at him. "Don't show them a weakness!" She hissed, but her 'voice' never worked on him. It never would. They were immune to each other.
As he made his way over to a free sketch pad and choice pencils, he picked up one marked HB on the side and began to idly draw as if he were continuing a picture he'd been working on for years. Edith let out a sigh at him, leaving his side to lean in on the conversation had by Chloe and Medusa, smirking from the corner of her mouth. She opened her mouth to say something, as well, but when the doors opened, Chloe vanished, and she knew better than to startle the shy girl even more by blowing her cover -- as fun of an idea as it sounded like.
Before she could answer, her attention was drawn to a young man who'd entered the room. There was something about him that she quite liked, and it wasn't just his looks (which isn't to say that it did not cross her mind).Β "Aiden, meet the new girl. I don't know her name yet." Aiden, what a nice name... he took her hand and bowed, and Anna held her breath. Then, as quick as the strange young man had come, he was gone, dissapeared into the throng of inmates. She turned to Edith, one curious brow raised. "Don't mind him, new girl. He... doesn't talk very much. Or at all."
That was ok, neither did she.
"It's Anna, by the way." Anna's stare turned from that of simple attentiveness to curiosity as she watched her new aquantance walk away. Where before she'd seen only a girl who was a bit off, a bit ghostly, she now noticed that Edith was more than a little absent. She was transparent! Her forehead crumpled in confusion. "Wha..."
At that moment, the drugs began to wear off. Her mind no longer in a forced calm, the panic began to surge back in, as if someone had released the floodgates and everything that had been building up began to immersed the land. Her eyes grew wide in horror, her nails dug into her palms and her breathing became erratic. Even though she felt like she was drowning, Anna tried to convince herself that she could control it. But then her legs began to hurt. She toppled over with the searing pain, her arms wrapped around her waist as if to hold herself in. She began to shake on her knees, and she refused to speak for fear of what she might do. Finally, she managed to gain control enough to stop the shaking and open her mouth. Her voice came as only a whisper. "Where am I!?"
He looked up at her, slightly annoyed that she had decided to interrupt his time, but saw she was cute so he let a charming smile replace his previous expression.
She was out of breath and his eyes raised up to the vent she had just come from and an eyebrow raised skeptically. Had she really just hopped down from there so casually to say "Hey"?
Medusa walked in and Dorian watched her sit down and talk to the girl who was standing over him.
So she had gotten into trouble. And she was on the run. It reminded him of when they were trying to catch him. Hard job, he'd made it. Being able to become a dragon was useful in those kinds of conditions and spitting acid, well, they had hard enough time catching him.
Apparently it had something to do with the blonde girl who had been at the table by herself.
"I don't think we are the ones you need to be apologizing to." He murmered, looking up at Chloe then back down to his nearly finished sketch. It would be easier to paint, especially since his subject was in front of him.
"No, I didn't see your little fight earlier. Seems as though no one noticed I was out cold in the corner. The girl that lit up in fire," He shuddered, obviously even the word bothered him. "sent me to pass out." He whispered the last part.
He remembered that she had asked him a question when she had first came from the vent.
"And to answer your question, I am drawing Meddie." He glanced to the gorgon, a small smile on his face before he looked down and dipped his utensil in the cup of water then proceeded to mix colors together to get the right shade he was going for.
More people began to come into the room as well and it was getting slightly crowded for his pleasure. Especially with the hot blonde taking up most of his bubble.
. . . . .
Baby was sitting in a chair, waiting impatiently.
"If she wanted to see me so bad, she wouldn't keep me out here. I feel like a dog on a leash." She thought for a moment then realized how ironic that had been and scoffed at herself.
The door opened and another patient exited the room. Baby watched her and a voice tore her away from the girl.
"The doctor will see you now." It was light and welcoming, but the werewolf wanted nothing to do with the receptionist.
"Then get the fuck out of my way." She said, shoving her to the side so she could pass to go into the office.
She opened the large oak door, seeing a woman sitting down with dark, long hair that framed her face. Glasses placed on her nose didn't avert her features in any way. It was obvious that she was stunningly beautiful. But they had met before, so they knew how this was going to be.
Baby helped herself to one of the cherry suckers that sat at the corner of her desk in a glass jar.
The doctor was busily looking over a file, most likely hers, but there were so many already piled onto her desk that it was hard to tell.
"Who you reading up on, Doc?" She asked in an amusing try at sounding like the rabbit that so many children loved to watch, but she had forgotten the name it had been so long.
The doctor chuckled then finally met the eyes of the patient across from her.
"Just one of the new patients, Baby. Jacob Carlin. From what we have gathered he isn't violent, usually very quiet and content, but something must have happened this morning to send him over the edge." She closed the manila folder and went to put it back in the filing drawer and pulled out a different smooth folder. It was thick with papers, but she had been here for a fairly long time so they had a lot on her.
"Amy, why do we have to do this?" Baby asked and the doctor tsked her.
"You know to call me Doctor Reedus, Baby."
"Yeah, yeah. You've told me."
The doctor shook her head, looking over something that Baby couldn't read, but she could hear what was going through her mind now. The pills were almost all the way worn off.
Causing brutal fights. Killing guards. Not accepted around others. Harrasing others.
"Looks like you've had quite the morning, mmm?"
Baby rolled her eyes and sighed impetuously. "Just give me what I need to know, and I'll go."
"Well, it looks as though you may not be going back out to the rec room. Is there something you need to tell me, babygirl?"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Doctor Reedus led her to the door and opened it for her.
"Good talk. We'll have one soon?" She asked, but Baby was just eager to get out of there, trying to pass up the doctor but Amy held onto her shoulder.
"Hey. Take these." In her hand she had a few more red suckers and Baby snatched them quickly, shoving them into her jacket pocket.
"Thanks." She managed, before walking down the hall.
The doctor had always trusted her to be able to walk down the hall without any guards because she saw "the good in her". But Baby knew that had been gone for a long time.
She slipped into the recreation room which was already packed with patients. She went around them and out the sliding glass door, glad to be away from the group.
The small square of space outside was surrounded by the facility and the other walls were twelve feet of thick concrete.
She chuckled remembering the time that she had tried to climb over. It hadn't ended well.
She slammed on the red button that was outside of the door which alerted someone to bring her her smokes that she so desperately needed.
She was happy to see Nancy hobbling towards her with her pack and her cheetah.
"You got Charlie!" She grinned and hugged the elder woman then took the cigarettes.
"Yes, my dear. He was just laying on the floor in the cafeteria so I grabbed him before anything happened to him." The old woman winked then patter Baby's head before the girl pulled her into a hug.
Baby felt so close to her, like she was her grandma or something, but it felt great to have someone around that she could at least partially trust.
"Thank you." She added as the woman headed back inside. Baby watched her leave then lit up a Kool between her lips and inhaled it longingly, a flume of smoke trailing out of her mouth.

She hesitated when her name was mentioned, and glanced back up again, a little surprised.
"You're drawing me? Er...thanks. I can't promise it's exactly very pretty subject matter...but I'm flattered. " she stated.
The gorgon had always been very touchy about her appearance, even though the majority of it was covered up by her mask so she didn't harm anybody. She tended to be surrounded with people who appeared human, despite being something else. Most of them seemed to take such things for granted, but Meddie often wished she could have the same....but even without the patches of scales and the reptilian hair there was still the gorgon's gaze problem. She supposed at least the snakes were a decent giveaway to anyone with experience in mythology not to try looking her in the eye.
She knew that she was always going to be judged next to her more human peers, and always be rated less on that basis, and it often made her feel unhappy.
Just as she began to get her hopes up that things may heat up again, after Medusa's comments back to the girl, Edith looked casually around the room and arched a brow. Where had that new girl gone? What had she said her name was? Anna? Did the guards not grab her up-- No, because you told them to go stuff themselves. She let out a sigh, pretending to facepalm herself before drifting her way past the others, through the doors, around the corner and down the halls back to the cafeteria. She hadn't even seen Baby in passing because she was so focused on finding this other girl.
Being new sucked, plain and simple, especially when your body is going through some radical stuff -- like a first dosage or so of the meds they pumped in this place. Edith knew that pain especially when she first died. It was very unlike her character, usually, to give a damn and two cents about someone else other than her brother, but... There was a connection to this girl, no matter how 'small' of a connection that may be.
Upon reentering the cafeteria, the guards still taking their time fattening themselves up, Edith spotted Anna and blinked, arching a brow at her. She hovered over to her, folding her arms with a furrow brow. "The medication must have worn off, eh? What'd they give you? What's your 'diagnosense' in this nutter?"
She hovered a bit closer, pretending to crouch down on her knees next to the girl, bringing a hand up to play with her hair -- only to find disappointment by the fact that she couldn't even do that in death. "Hey, you going to be okay? It's alright, y'know. As long as you behave, they don't bother you too much. That's the beauty of this asylum. And the inmates? We're a bunch of misfits, darling. You'll fit right in."
In the back of her mind, she was vomiting at the realization of her maternal reaction to the girl. She wrinkled up her nose a moment, shaking her head at the thought.
(but decided to pass off as a practical joke).
The night, when she first noticed the manΒ
(but chalked it up to the shadows playing tricks).
The man, who observed her from a distance and would seemingly disappear in a secondΒ
(but never came too close or stayed too long as to scare the young girl away).
The split second, the amount of time it took for her to realize what was happening before they entered her room
(but were too swift to let her warn them of her nature).
And the darkened haze that followed.
Anna looked up, her chain of thoughts interrupted by Edith's sudden return.Β "The medication must have worn off, eh? What'd they give you? What's your 'diagnosense' in this nutter?" Nutter!? "Bu-"Β
Then another memory. The contents of the mysterious letter, the supposed hoax...
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lorelei,
We are respectfully and dutifully required to send you the following letter of information due to one of the following facts;
Your child is mentally insane or unstable.
Your child is not a human.
They do not get along with humans, or possibly other species.
If one of the following addresses you or your child, please continue reading. If not, this message shall soon wipe your memory with a laser scan...
Ignore that last line if you are still with us. The faculty of the facility has been keeping their eye on you and your family. They know what you are and they are specialized in the training to help and treat and care for your children. In the next forty-eight hours someone will be stopping by to take them away and if not willingly, we can make matters much worse for anyone who resists us.
Thank you, and hope to be hearing from you soon.
"Hey, you going to be okay? It's alright, y'know. As long as you behave, they don't bother you too much. That's the beauty of this asylum. And the inmates? We're a bunch of misfits, darling. You'll fit right in."
Her vision blurred and her head spun. Pieces of some sort of twisted puzzle fit together in a new and unexpected fashion. Things which had been so confusing and detached before were now painfully obvious, and she mentally slapped herself for being so damn blind before. She was in some sort of mental institution. They all were, and Anna stood up and looked at the hoards of inmates. ThenΒ the dizziness caught up with her. She tried to use Edith to hold herself up, but all she received was a fistful of air; instead, she grasped the edge of a nearby table and cautiously sat herself down. When she'd regained herself enough to avoid taking a tumble, she stared upwards at the strange young woman (with whom she seemed to have formed some odd sort of attachment over the course of their brief encounter).Β "Not to seem rude, but... what are you?"
When the girl began to reach for her for balance, Edith felt a ping of disappointment. Not for the girl, but at herself. This was just another side-affect of her 'condition'. It almost got her to thinking... This is why I'm here. To accept it, I bet. That's the only reason I can imagine they'd take in a lost cause like me... Someone who's not even alive any longer.
"Not to seem rude, but... what are you?" The question broke her train of thought - and Edith welcomed it. Deranged. Neurotic. A murderer. You? Edith laughed at the voice inside of her head, looking down at the girl. She reached up a hand to herself, brushing her ghostly hair over her shoulder as she flashed a grin.
"Well, once upon a time, I was an opera singer named Edith Carroll. I was quite famous in Europe, more so than the western hemisphere." But that's not what you asked... And Edith knew it. Acceptance? Right. "But now, I'm nothing but a memory, I guess. A ghost of what I once was. My brother and I, we're sirens of the sea. That's why my voice may seem a bit like sweet honey to you, without my trying. My brother has the effects heightened, being alive. That's.. That's why he doesn't bother to talk to anyone at all. He doesn't feel like it's necessary to embrace what he is. He wants to be normal. Well, he'll at least look it."
Had she given her too much information? Was that even what she wanted to hear? Edith swallowed, breezing downward to sit at the table with the girl. "You know, everyone's relocated to the rec room, now. You should go and meet them. I can take you?" Just as quickly as she had sat down, she sprung up, floating in the air with a warm smile.
As he got closer to completing it he added black and white to show the overall light and shadows in the painting.
He glanced next to him, finally noticing that Chloe had also taken up painting. He watched the way her hands moved as she continued to work, then his eyes began taking in all of the detail in her turtles.
He smiled over at her.
"I like your's too. I'm Dorian by the way."
He looked up towards Medusa to make sure everything looked perfect then he slowly got up off of the couch and came next to her, kneeling and showing her the painting.
It was of her in front of a city. He had her mask off of the lower part of her face and she was grinning. Behind the mask you could barely see the glimpse of her eyes. Around her waist and shoulder she had a sash that read, Miss Understood.
"I think your worth every second of this. And I find you more interesting to draw then anything else I could think of. You don't need to thank me, either." He chuckled and set the canvas down in her lap.
"It's still wet, but I want you to have it." He offered her a half smiled before standing up and walking over to the snack machines. He raised a brow, looking into the glass and wondering how exactly he would be paying for this but after a few seconds of looking he found a jar with loose change inside of it. He reached his hand in and extracted a few quarters then payed for a bag of chocolate teddy grahams. He hopped on top of the counter and popped two bears into his mouth.
. . . . .
Baby slid down the wall and crossed her legs once she had sat down. She held Charlie to her chest as she repeatedly brought her tobacco to her lips and inhaled the nicotine.
After a minute or so of being outside she heard Jake's mind coming closer and raised a brow. He hadn't been in the lab that long, but it was his first time so they'd probably gone easy on him.
He surprisingly let himself outside and she scooted over so there would be space for him if he wanted to sit down too not that she took up that much space anyway. She brought her knees up to her chest and set Charlie on top.
How the hell did you know? Her lip tugged but a smile didn't break. After he lit his own vice she looked up at him for a moment.
She peeled her eyes away and watched her cigarette burn down, eyeing each individual ash that flew off and up into the wind.
"So you're a vamp. I could smell you the second you stepped off of the van." She pulled another drag and exhaled, then ashed.
"You reek, Jacob." She chuckled lightly.

It was certainly quite a good picture, and what he'd done with her was pretty funny. She found herself smiling in spite of herself.
"Heh, that's pretty cute." she admitted, looking it over.
"I'll stick it up in my room when I'm back there. Beats blank walls anyway. I'm guessing the staff'll trust me not to sudden make a shiv out of it and go postal or anything. Been here long enough without causing trouble anyway. "
The gorgon carefully set the canvas to the side of her chair, so it wasn't in a position where anyone was likely to trip over it....or grab it..or break it...or stick their foot through it.
"In all honesty I probably wouldn't leave this place even if I had the opportunity to go psycho, knife a bunch of guards and run off into the night. It's too damn dangerous out there. Don't have to keep looking over my shoulder at least. I mean people love to complain about this place...but there's a lot to be said for not getting murdered." she stated.
That was how it had been before. Walking around with a great big target on her head. Yup..everyone had wanted a piece of Medusa....literally. The Asylum was hardly an ideal home, but she no longer had to worry about falling asleep in case someone sliced her neck into a bucket like a sacrificial goat while she napped.

^ This is Arcadia, and RP that kinda works the opposite to this, being based in a reality where magical creatures rule the world and humans are regarded as the lowest form of life.
