Introduction

9:30 Dragon, the fifth blight has started in Ferelden.

The land of Ferelden has been thrown into a war with horrid darkspawn, creature born from the pure taint of blood magic.
Image

King Cailen has assembled his army, along with his top military adviser, Loghain’s, army. He has been battling against the darkspawn, and appears to be winning.
Image
(left Cailen, right Loghain)

The king has called upon the grey wardens to help with the war; the grey wardens are a group of incredibly skilled warriors, mages, archers and all other types of warriors you can imagine. They rose in the first blight to save the whole of Thedas from the first blight. Despite this the wardens are desperate to bolster their numbers. You are one these recruits. All recruits are being taken to the ruins of Ostagar to help Cailen with the battle. There are many of you, but all your stories are different. This initiation is the beginning of your new life.

This is a story based on the story of dragon age: origins.it will follow the same story setting as dragon age: origins. Unlike the game though the role-players will choose all the choices. There will be none of the characters from the game unless someone decides to do a canon. Friendships, arguments, love. It will all be played out in this before you make your character you could look to this website for some background info. I can help you with your application if you need any. Also do not worry if your not experienced with the story, me and other experienced players of dragon age.

character application
Follow this guide and code to create an application for this roleplay.
.1. Races: in Ferelden there are four races (not including darkspawn, spirits and demons).
Humans: Image
The newest and most numerous race. They originated from Tervinter and populated at an amazing rate. Religion and the Chantry are a large of human society. When creating a human you need to specify what city you came from and what class you and your family were from (noble, peasant, middle class etc.)
Elves:
Image A humanoid race, elves are typically shorter than their human companions and have a slender, lithe build and pointed ears. In Ferelden there are two types of elves: the Alienage elves and the dalish elves (please read through the details in the links). When creating an elf make sure that you state which type of elf it is and include all the appropriate details. Also if you are dalish, please don’t use the clan from the dalish origin from the game.
Dwarves:
Image
Strong, stocky, and short in comparison to both humans and elves, the dwarves have a long tradition of courage and martial skill that has served them well in their millennias-long battle against the darkspawn in the Deep Roads. Unlike elves and humans, dwarves do not naturally enter the Fade, which means they cannot perform any magic though they do have a resistance to magical effects and lyrium. Much like humans, dwarves live in a class system (called castes by the dwarves), though it is much more prominent. When making a dwarven character, be sure to state which caste in society you are from.
Qunari:
Image
Duty is paramount in Qunari culture, and their society is seen as a living entity, whose wellbeing is the responsibility of all. This belief is call the qun. They are larger then the other three races. When creating a Qunari make sure to explain why the Qun has driven to Ferelden and to join the grey wardens.
2. personality:this pretty much self-explanatory. Just put how your character will react in conversations with other people.
3.Skills: for this section you will need to state the skills that your character has. The important part of this is not to make your character too strong, because as the roleplay continues your skills and abilities will improve and evolve. Also put what kind of magic you were trained to do if you are a mage
4. Equipment:this is the armour and weapons your character has. Make sure that your equipment is appropriate to your skills, e.g. a fast character would light armour or robes or a person who is trained for close combat wouldn’t have a bow. Also, much like the skills, your equipment can’t be too good. There will be plenty of chances to find better equipment along the way.
5.history:this part should be the longest part of your application. This is where you should state all the details you need to about the rime leading up to when you were recruited and taken to Ostagar. You also need to include any racial details needed. Make sure this is at least 2 paragraphs long.

Here is the code for the application
Code: Select all

Race:
Skills and Abilities:(leave plenty of room for improvement)
Personality:

Midnight swept over the land, and Lune knew it was ready to travel to this "initiation". She had heard that the Grey Wardens have a supply of Umbra Stone, so she knew that her best chance at forging her equipment would be to join this group, and take some.

Her footsteps made a near-silent crunch on the fallen leaves as she walked through the forest. The cracked, chipped Crescent Blade in her hand shone an eerie glow in the moonlight. It was a full moon out, and a clear night, so she was rather comfortable walking through the chilled air. Suddenly, the air became freezing, and she could see her breath. She knew something was near, and it most likely was a mage specialized in ice magic. Lune stopped dead in her tracks, and quickly scanned her surroundings.Something isn't right here, she thought to herself. Then, she felt her feet go numb.

Then she couldn't move them.

She looked down, to find that she was standing in an Ice Rune Trap.

The crystallized ice was slowly travelling up her legs.

She tried to break her feet free, but it was no use. Her feet were stuck, and she couldn't move them. The ice was now to her waist. At this rate, it was going to take over her entire body, and kill her. She looked up to the moon, and chanted,

Moon, give me your strength,
Smite those that dare deny your power,
help me in my time of need,
I shall sacrifice a portion of my soul,
to slay those that have wronged me.

She raised her blade to the sky, and completing the ritual, she drove the blade into the ground, sending out a shock wave, strong enough to shatter the ice, and break the mage's invisibility spell.

She turned her head to the mage that almost killed her, and raised her blade. She swiped the blade towards him, sending a blade of pale energy at him, slicing the man in half. She turned back to where she was walking, and continued on. She saw a faint light in the distance, so she knew she was almost there.

Humans, just… everywhere. There were just so many of them, it was rather disconcerting. In his tribe there were only about 60 elves. It really made Kerin uncomfortable knowing that any one of the thousand people here could kill him at any moment, and there was nothing he could do to know if it was coming. He missed the quiet solitude of brecilian forest, no noise other than the sounds of the forest. Danger would be apparent to him the instant it arose. Here, death could be awaiting him around the next corner.

The quartermaster wasn’t the most charming person in the world, but he got him the arrows he needed. As for now, he was content to sit in a tree and watch the goings on of the camp. Mages performing rituals, soldiers training, apothecary healing. He knew that he would need to go to Duncan soon, along with the other recruits. He sighed, got out of the tree and made his way to the bonfire.

Duncan seems like a trustworthy human, though time will really tell. He has top-notch equipment and probably the skills to match, considering he is the leader of the grey wardens. In the brief conversation they were having he tended to stay away from Kerin’s personal life, whether out politeness or disinterest he would never know, but rather focus on asking about the journey here and his skills. He was likeable enough and nowhere near as close-minded as some of the other humans here, which was a refreshing change.

Virani M'iorn walked around the camp admiring the quiet efficiency of those scattered around her, everyone seemed to have a purpose and went about it with little fuss. In a way it reminded her of the Circle, where until recently she had spent her life, where everyone moved with dignified purpose. But then this was a camp that readied for war and she doubted any army would fare well in battle if they could not even organise their campsite. She walked past several barrel chested, thick armed men wearing leather aprons hammering metal into weapons and armour. Further on she passed troops training in combat with the soldier in charge bellowing orders at them and the kennels where the Mabari war hounds were housed. She stopped to gaze at the beasts for a moment admiring their strong build, glossy coats and intelligent eyes. She did not doubt for one moment that they could understand what she or others said and if she were lucky enough to have one as a companion she was sure she would greatly benefit from it.

She walked quickly past the area set aside for the mages who would be assisting in the battle, she knew pretty all the faces present but she did not want to linger there. She was finally free of the tower and feared, perhaps irrationally, that if she was seen with the other mages then the templars would realise their mistake and drag her back to the tower. No matter how dangerous the life of a grey warden it had to be better than being confined in that prison of stone and magic. A few mages acknowledged her as she passed and she nodded quickly but continued walking. Several of the templars watched her with flat eyes as she walked past but made no attempt to delay her passage.

She finally reached the area of the camp with a large bonfire and saw Duncan and another figure already waiting around its warmth. The light the fire gave off only partially illuminated their faces making them look ghostly in the darkness. She nodded to Duncan as she joined them and then turned to regard the figure she did not recognise. She caught a hint of pointed ears and saw he was an elf, Dalish she guessed by his garb, she felt a little curiosity about one of her wilder cousins but not enough to question him upon it. She continued to appraise him a slight smile on her face. He was perhaps considered handsome by some and Virani found no fault with his appearance. Not that appearance would matter in the coming battle as skill would decide if they defeated the Darkspawn and from the looks of him he could handle himself well.

"Well met." She greeted in her customary light drawl her words containing their usual sarcasm. "Nice to see I'm not the only one along for this adventure trip!"

Lune finally arrived in the camp, and almost instantly noticed others around the large bonfire. She approached the fire, and asked Duncan pretty quickly, "Is the initiation during the daytime, or nighttime? Mainly because I have a strange condition. I get terribly ill if i am in direct sunlight. I would appreciate if we did this at night." She then removed her cloak, folded it up, and placed it on the ground. "I would also like to know if you have any Umbra Stone. I need some to forge my new armor and weapon." She showed the cracks and chips on her armor, and how decrepit her weapon had become.

β€œAndaran atish’an” he said bowing his head slightly, ignoring the sarcastic undertone. He had been around these soldiers long enough to know when to recognize it. Still it was comforting to have met another elf, even someone as derisive as her.
β€œWell, it’s not just us it seems” he cocks his head to the other elf approaching. By the looks of she was dalish. When she arrived went straight for Duncan, which was understandable, he was the most important looking person here.

(Lune)"Is the initiation during the daytime, or nighttime? Mainly because I have a strange condition. I get terribly ill if i am in direct sunlight. I would appreciate if we did this at night. I would also like to know if you have any Umbra Stone. I need some to forge my new armor and weapon."
(Duncan)β€œThe ritual will be performed in the dark of night, though there will two tasks that must be completed beforehand. Unfortunately this will take place during day. Some good news for you, is that those tasks will take place in kocari wilds. There will be many ways that you would be able to stay in the shadows. Those tasks will be explained when the rest of the recruits arrive. Until then, your time is your own. And if you wish to use an umbra stone, you will have to wait until the initiation is complete.”

"Engineer, how's the weapons looking?" sergeant Ericson asked as he approached Otto.
"Been in far better condition. The moist and the mud is taking its toll on the wood, attracting termites and causing the wood to rot. I've ordered the dismantling of one ballista, if the Maker is with us it will also be the only one," Otto answered as he surveyed the soon-to-become battlefield from the stone bridge. Otto and his crew had worked tirelessly to prepare the warmachines for this battle, dozens of oil pots had been prepared, as well as stones, and arrows for the archers.
"How will a single ballista affect our defenses? The rest are still functional and the catapults don't seen to even have a scratch. What is there to worry about?" the sergeant doubted.
"The ballista that was dismantled was the one guarding our left flank along with your men," Otto explained, though he had to pinch himself so he wouldn't sneer at the dim-witted sergeant.
"A minor loss then, besides those men can kill ten times more darkspawns than your precious warmachines," the sergeant remarked, though Otto didn't take the bait and returned to looking at the ruined castle's defenses.

Otto had learned that heroes were those who wielded a sword against the monster, not a group of men who hurried to load the next projectile on a catapult or ballista. Men like Otto would always be in the background when it came to heroic tales, though as he had explained to his crew, there were brighter sides, such the near guaranteed chance of escaping from a battle with your life, the warmachines were generally far away from the main battle for the crew to know if it would be time to run or stay.

After Otto had finished his second inspection of the defenses he returned to where he and his fellow siege officers had agreed to meet for a drink before the battle started. "Oi, Otto, check them out, over there by the bonfire. Mercs?" Sebastian asked. Sebastian was a clever man, he had an eye for measuring distances and would overlook the ballistas during the battle, while Tom was more of a brute and would be working on loading stones and pots onto the catapults.
"Mercenaries working for the Ferelden army? I wouldn't imagine it so," Otto answered as he placed the bottle of brandy on the ground between them. "Maybe some royal, fancy ass soldiers to come and make all the other lads look bad," he then suggested, giving a grin to the other two.
"You know, I heard the Templars talk about them as well. They called them for 'The Wardens' or something like that. I don't know, I was trying to catch a glimpse of those witches," Tom explained as he poured three glasses.
"Careful, you know what they say about those magic users. They are locked up in that tower for a reason," Otto warned, taking a little sip of his drink.
"Whatever the case, lets cheer that their powers will be used on the darkspawns and not us," Sebastian raised his glass and the men cheered.

Ella sat huddled by the bonfire, unhappy with her entire situation. Her brother was not at the camp here in Ostagar, and the King could not help her until this battle was over. Duncan was at least kind to her and let her and her warhound stay with him. Though she had taken a look around the camp earlier, picked up some new steel daggers along with a quiver of arrows and repaired her leather armor, she hadn't bother to stop and converse with anyone. So now she just sat by the bonfire, leaning against Justice, waiting for Duncan to tell her where to go and what to do next.

She watched and listened to the two elves who were now speaking with Duncan, Ella had nothing against elves, but she didn't feel ready to talk with anyone, let alone introduce herself. After the death of her parents and the fall of her only home, who would want to carry a conversation with anyone? She thought to herself, while stroking Justice's muscular back.

"You are all I have left of home... Pup." She whispered in the warhound's ear.

Hugging herself closer to Justice, she buried her face against his neck, as a single tear fell from her eyes, trailing down her cheek.

"I understand. I shall prepare myself for this initiation process." Lune walked out to a spot in the camp where the moon was clearly visible, then laid down, staring up at it.

The moon on this night reminded her of all of those lonely evenings she had spent, on her home's roof, gazing upon the moon for hours at a time. She was comforted, soothed by it. It would never betray her, or deny her because she had a health problem. In her mind, only the Society and the Moon really knew her, they knew her enough that she could trust them.

Thankfully, they understood her here.

She removed her gaze from the moon, and to the trees. She sat up, and when she did, she saw something glowing in the trees: The eyes of an owl. She gestured for the owl to come to her, and surprisingly, it came. It perched on the ankles of her crossed legs, and they exchanged gazes. They were both creatures of the night, so they somehow had a sort of connection with each other. She could tell the owl was quite wise, with a stoic expression, yet it was hinting that it had seen it's fair share of tragedy. The owl examined Lune's face, and made a slightly alarmed expression as it preened its wing. The owl had recognized her, as someone it had seen from a very long time ago.

When Lune realized this, a few tears rolled down her cheek. This owl had watched her grow up, as a silent vigil that has observed her whole life. "Why do you follow me?" She asked it with much curiosity. The owl made no effort to look like it was answering her question. The owl took off from its perch on her leg, and flew back to the tree it was in.

"Why does the owl find me so intriguing? Am I really that interesting to watch?"

The sound the gnashing of teeth against food was heard around the camp. Therek was enjoying the many perks of being a Warden recruit. No one questioned what he did or how he did it. Sure they still gave him plenty of dirty looks when he passed or did any of the aforementioned things, but that didn't bother Therek any. The food at the upper Brass part of the camp was fantastic. It had been years since he had any decent food. Just moldy bread and dry beef. Ferelden sure did take good care of it's officers. This goose was pretty damn succulent. H was sure some officer was missing it dearly. He chuckled to himself at the thought. He leaned back in the rickety wooden chair and propped his feet up on a stump, feeling like a king. Every soldier who passed gave him a dirty look, which he responded with a smug grin. He loved flaunting himself in front of soldiers here. They couldn't do a thing to him, even though they knew of his crimes. He was untouchable. He guessed being a Warden wouldn't be half as bad as he thought. No one could tell him what to do and he got to fight as many Darkspawn as he pleased. He had faced two before. They were right terrifying, but they bled and died like anything else. If it bled, then Therek could kill it, which he did.

He glanced over at the onfire where he saw his fellow recruits standing about in front of the top Warden. What was his name again........right, Duncan. Therek didn't like him, he stuck a dagger in his leg. Therek didn't like people who stuck sharp objects into him. He was also really calm and too damn polite for Therek's taste. It seemed most Wardens worried more about offending people than killing Darkspawn. Better than the damn nobles or prison guards he guessed. He finished up his goose and decided it was probably time to head over there. He stood up to his full size and looked down at the soldiers about the camp. Therek stood at 6'7" and 255lbs, he knew he was intimidating, and loved it.

As he made his way over to the bonfire, He noticed an odd looking elf laying on the ground in the middle of the camp. She was looking at an owl and crying. He cocked an eye at her and shook his head."Feck'in Knife ears." He muttered under his breath. He wasn't going to pretend to understand their culture, but man could they be weird sometime.

Before he got there, he grabbed a large wooden crate from a pile, then plopped it down next to the Bonfire. He took a seat on it and burped. He pounded his chest a bit and licked his lips. He looked about at his fellow recruits and wondered how many of them were going to fail this little test Duncan had cooked up for them. He noticed most them looked rather sullen. "Well this is a cheery lot, ain't it? You all scared or something? I'm anxious to get this bloody thing over with, personally. Anyone know when we start this feck'in thing?"

Virani glanced about as several others joined the bonfire and she wondered just how many recruits Duncan had managed to gain on his travels, though the more the merrier she guessed since they would be facing Darkspawn. She noticed at least one other elf amongst them clearly a Dalish from her garb and oddly she was lying on the ground apparently weeping. Virani did not pretend she understood and was not about to intrude and possibly blunder into something she really didn't want to get involved in. She also noticed a human woman crouched a little distance away holding her Mabari hound close to her and it was clear she wanted no other company but the beasts. Though interested in the War hound Virani had decided that it was best not to disturb him and his master not without risking losing a hand of course.

The last one to join made a more interesting entrance and Virani could not help but grin as he seated himself on a crate and bluntly addressed the group obviously not caring what anyone else thought of him. Virani studied him for a moment and could see he was used to taking care of himself in any way possible judging from his garb.

"Nothing like a bit of fear to make you feel alive I always say." Virani commented lightly. "As to when we get moving when Duncan says so I suppose."
