The Family of the Snow Woman

Image

Family Background

The Snow woman, or Yuki-onna is a yokai, a sort of spirit/monster, that lives in the mountains of Japan where snow covers the land throughout the whole year. Everyone who touches her, freezes immediately and she can kill people with her cold breath.
She can turn into snow or a cloud and disappear, or she shapeshifts into any animal that is native to the area, like a snow fox, or rabbit or an eagle or falcon…
The story that surrounds her goes…

A long time ago, there lived two woodcutters, Minokichi and Mosaku. Minokichi was young and Mosaku was very old.
One winter day, they could not come back home because of a snowstorm. They found a hut in the mountain and decided to sleep there. On this particular evening, Mosaku woke up and found a beautiful lady with white clothes. She breathed on old Mosaku and he was frozen to death.
She then approached Minokichi to breathe on him, but stared at him for a while, and said, "I thought I was going to kill you, the same as that old man, but I will not, because you are young and beautiful. You must not tell anyone about this incident. If you tell anyone about me, I will kill you."
Several years later, Minokichi met a beautiful young lady, named Oyuki and married her. She was a good wife. Minokichi and Oyuki had several children and lived happily for many years. Mysteriously, she did not age.
One night, after the children were asleep, Minokichi said to Oyuki: "Whenever I see you, I am reminded of a mysterious incident that happened to me. When I was young, I met a beautiful young lady like you. I do not know if it was a dream or if she was a Yuki-onna..."
After finishing his story, Oyuki suddenly stood up, and said "That woman you met was me! I told you that I would kill you if you ever told anyone about that incident. However, I can't kill you because of our children. Take care of our children..." Then she melted and disappeared.

The Children

Oyuki and Minokichi had seven children, four boys and three girls. They boys were to carry the surname "Musuko" which means "Son" and the girls would carry the family name "Musume" which means "Daughter".
All of their children, being only half human, have a hard time understanding human emotions and thus act rather cold most of the time. They each have a darker side to them and enjoy violence and destruction in many different forms, some like blood-shedding, some poisoning the mind. But one thing they have in common and that is the cold blood of their mother that flows through their veins. Their appearance differs somewhat from normal humans, as their skin is very pale, almost transluctant and their lips always have a bluish tint. Their skin is cold to the touch and even in a warm room, they still remain very cool, literally.
All seven children have been trained in traditional japanese fighting techniques and carry a katana with them at all times, besides other individual weapons.

Recent History

Since they were children, they were raised by only their father, as their mother left him and her children to haunt the mountains of Japan. When their human father died, they stayed it Japan for a few more years before leaving when it became too obvious for the people around them that they were never ageing. That was in 1873 and for almost a century they travelled the world, till at last, they settled down in Czechia, where it was decided to visit the wizarding school to learn more about the magic practiced in Europe. Their father, being a wizard, had taught them nothing but the basics, so even the Unforgivables were not known to them at this point.

Image
Aisu

She is the oldest of the seven children and her siblings usually listen to her lead. She is very dominant and controlling and loves to bring hurt and despair over the people around her. Yet, she is not impulsive in her actions, she rather uses her sharp mind and iron control to cause as much chaos as possible. Beside that, she does care for her family even if she doesn't show it and looks out for them, so anyone who messes with one of her younger siblings, will face almost immediate pain and destruction. Aisu is most like Samui which can be a blessing and a curse.

Image

Samui

He is the second oldest child of Oyuki and like his older sister, he appears very cold and superior. Unlike Aisu, though, he is not openly hostile and sadistic, prefering more the subtle art of manipulation. He excudes a calm confidence that makes him the natural leader in a stressful situation, like on a battlefield and he is one of only two people that can truely keep his twin brother in check. Samui enjoys to fight with words rather than with weapons, but that does not mean that he isn't as well trained as his siblings, he just views emotional pain as more destructive than physical pain.

Image
Fubuki

He is the younger of the twins and quite different from his older brother Samui. Where his brother is cold and calm, always keeping his cool, Fubuki is raving and violent. He easily loses his temper and little things can set him off into a wild rage where he loses himself in causing as much pain in as bloody a way as possible. Fubuki always gives off the air of being pissed off about something and he does carry a lot of anger in him. Beside all that, he is a reliable fighter and you couldn't wish for a better warrior to stand next to you, or rather to surge ahead and clear the way for you. Fubuki usually spends his time either with his twin brother or his younger sister Yuki, as they are the only people that can calm him.

Image
Fuyu

The fourth child of Oyuki is very different from his older siblings, as if with the first three children the Yuki-Onna had given up most of the cruelty she had to spare. Fuyu loves to flirt and spend his time socializing, his open face quickly making people like and want him, but besides his confident appearance, he also has a darker side and sometimes his carefree nature seems to turn into something more sinister. Of all his siblings, Sunofureku is the most like him, both loving to flirt and being outgoing.

Image

Yuki

Yuki is the kindest of the seven children and often finds herself trying to prevent her siblings from causing too much harm to other people, especially Fubuki. She is very calm and soft-spoken and tends to give everyone a chance. That is not to say, that Yuki is an innocent little girl. Like her siblings, she has been trained in fighting and when she feels threatened or someone hurts her family then the nice facade quickly crumbles and you find yourself dealing with a very destructive, but controlled opponent. Yuki spends a lot of time with her siblings, feeling a bit out of her depth with people outside her family.

Image

Shiro

He is the youngest son of Oyuki and very calm and reserved. Shiro likes to practice on his own and only truely opens up when he's amongst his family and so doesn't go out much. His younger sister and Fuyu sometimes tease him for his silence and withdrawn behaviour, but Shiro is confident in himself enough not to try to change his ways at all. He has a very strategic mind and, like Samui, prefers words to actions, so he usually is found plotting and planning out attacks while his siblings lead the way on the battle field. Shiro loves his siblings, but spends most of his time by himself.

Image

Sunofureku

The youngest child and daughter of the seven, Suno is the little princess who enjoys to dress up prettily and who often acts quite childlike. She appears to be the typical little girl, wearing dresses, make-up and giggling all the time. Like Fuyu, she also loves flirting and turns men's heads everytime she can. Yet, this cute face is only a mask and underneath, she is demonic, using her charms to lure people into her web and then she slowly destroys them. For Suno, people are nothing but toys and she loves nothing more than to collect toys. Thus, she keeps a small chest with parts she collected from her victims.

And so their journey begins anew ...
