Introduction
Every human being needs to feel. Some may think that to be human, you must fall under the characteristics of Homo sapiens, but there is more to it than that. We humans are boastful, arrogant creatures. We think we are above animals, above all other organisms in the world. We are known for our pride. Yet we are also known for joy, sadness, anger, and jealousy, to name a few. To be classified as humans, dears, you must be able to feel emotion.
But what is emotion, you might ask? The dictionary definition of it is, a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. But true emotion, human emotion, goes beyond science. It isn't just a state of mind; it is a state of heart. In fact, the emotion in the world is so strong, that it has taken the form of beings. Not physical beings, and although these emotions can achieve physicality if their duties call for it, their true state is intangible. Soon enough, the emotions of others depended on these beings for a life force. While these beings cannot manipulate the feelings of mere humans, if they do not exist, the world will plunge into chaos.
We humans do not know of these beings' existence, but they call themselves the Aequus, which translates to the word "equal" in Latin. You see, recently, the Aequus have been slacking off. They have not been doing their job to their fullest potential, and the Universe has decided: they must be punished. But the Aequus still have their jobs to do. So the universe created a just punishment. The main emotions are to go to Earth, in physical forms for the first time, and help a suffering human. And before you even think about saying anything, no, they might not truly be suffering, in our sense of the word. But the Aequus are assigned to a specific human who are deprived of their emotion. For instance, Fear is to be assigned to a reckless soul. This human, whatever their circumstances, doesn't realize the necessity of fear, and mocks those who fear it from time to time. Fear must teach them.
Currently, the Universe is damn proud of its accomplishment. But the Aequus still has to help a human.
Unbeknownst to them, the emotions will benefit from the experience just as much as the humans.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Five of the main emotions - Love, Happiness, Sadness, Fear, and Anger - have not been doing their job to the fullest extent. As a punishment, the Universe sends them to Earth in human forms - as high school juniors and seniors, in fact. These five main emotions are to have a taste of what's really happening on Earth by helping a human feel their respective emotion, and for the human to understand the importance of it (ex. Fear teaches a reckless human the value of fear in the world). The Universe hopes that these emotions will learn to understand their role in the world.
This story takes place in Gulfport, the second largest city in Mississippi, after the state capital, Jackson (yes, this is a real place). The characters will be going to West Harrison High School. The plot in this RP is very character-driven, but I will have an OOC thread and a Discord link where we can discuss the plot.

Characters - the characters in this RP must be between 16 and 18 years old - no exceptions. I may allow one or two 19-year-olds, but I don't want any characters younger than sixteen. As for the Aequus (I'm absolutely horrible at coming up with these names, so I resorted to Latin lol), when they achieve tangible state, they will not have a true age - only physical age or what they claim to be. So put that down as their age. I would love to see some diversity in the cast - not everybody is white, etc. Although I won't ban them completely, I would prefer it if the faceclaims aren't the overused ones. As for the CS, I have my own, but I will PM it to you if you want to use it - although, be warned, I have a set of "rules", or preferences, for the character sheet. If I see the CS anywhere else, I won't be happy. Also, for each pair of characters, I don't have certain gender restrictions. In the entire RP, I would like to see five males and five females, but each pair doesn't have to be boy and girl.
Reservations - Be warned, you cannot reserve by PM - only in the OOC thread. I would like a smaller group of writers, so you must all double up. I'm only looking for four more writers - you must be literate, with proper grammar and all that jazz. If you pass the relatively mild literacy expectations (a lot of you already have, don't worry), it's basically first come, first serve. When reserving your characters, you have to reserve one female and one male. I don't care which one is human, but one of them has to be, and the two can't be in the same pair (ex. you can't reserve both Love and the Hateful Human). When you reserve, please give me your character age, gender, role, pictures of faceclaims (200x200, black and white or close to that, only real people), and if you want to change up your character's description slightly. Those are just rough guidelines, so you can adjust your character's concept a bit as long as you still have the general idea. In the OOC, please put "girl with frozen toes" in transparent text as a validation password (I know it's weird, feel free to judge lol)
Activity - I'd like to see literate writers who can write at least 400 words per post. The general guideline is that you post at least two times a week, but if the activity lags, then I won't blame you. If you can't handle two characters, and if you aren't very committed, then this RP isn't for you, so please don't join if you can't stick with it. This RP is also very character-driven, so we will be collaborating a lot with our ideas as a group!
Other - And of course, remember the basic RPG rules. No godmodding or Mary Sues either. If you don't understand something, shoot me a message! I don't bite ^_^ Also, you might have noticed that I've only taken one character. Don't worry, I'm not breaking my own rules lol. I'll just be taking whichever human is left. But just a fair warning, I will not be taking the Passive Human (that's breaking my own rules, after all). Happy roleplaying!

Kyler took a moment to process what Renan had said - yes, he was in Advanced French, but he still didn't know the language like the back of his hand. After all, that's why he was taking the class. Kyler couldn't figure out how it came so naturally to Renan.
Kyler beamed when Renan suggested watching a movie. "Sûr!" he responded to the suggestion brightly. "J'aime les films! Ce sera beaucoup plus amusant que de simples recherches anciennes." Kyler furrowed a brow. "Cependant, je n'ai jamais regardé un film sur guerre. Mes trois soeurs ont toujours insisté sur des choses joyeuses. Ma petite soeur, Cassandra, a déclaré que c'était leur travail de 'préserver mon innocence'." Kyler used air quotes around the last part. Yes, he was regarded as innocent by practically everybody he met, but Kyler didn't understand Cassandra's logic of preserving his innocence by watching cheerful stuff. Surely, he could take the movies with the blood, gore, guts, and stuff...
"Cependant," Kyler continued. "Je suppose que les guerres mondiales sont bien, mais la révolution française ne serait-elle pas meilleure? Bien sûr, si vous pensez que les guerres mondiales sont un meilleur sujet ..." Kyler trailed off. In all honesty, everybody did stuff on the World Wars, especially World War II (which was mainly centered around Hitler, not France.)
"De toute façon," Kyler said, blinking owlishly. "Devons-nous nous rencontrer après l'école? Nous pouvons aller à la bibliothèque pour obtenir un film. À moins, vous avez déjà un ou quelque chose."

So, when she heard his response, there was a mix of surprise and sadness in her eyes. She quickly glanced down, not wanting him to take it as pity, which he had established he hated. Despite being saddened by the thought that Bodhi had lost people who he cared about, that response was golden for Ettie, who had a job to do. It had given her a better idea of what had shaped Bodhi into who he was and, for a lack of better words, a start into looking at how she could "fix" him.
Ettie wasn't surprised by Bodhi's immediate reluctance to look at the apps, although she would've loved to share it with him, and her eyes glanced over at the clock. Less than two minutes left. She wasn't going to start another conversation with him just so that he could cut her off rudely as soon as the bell rang, so she just quietly packed up her stuff and, as soon as the bell rang, she made sure to stand up before Bodhi.
"See you later, Bodhi," she said, flashing him a smile before turning to Elena, who had walked up to her. "Ready, darling?" she asked her friend and the two exited the room. Ettie wanted to look back badly, but she shook her head slightly. No, she would see him later. Maybe in another class.
Ettie didn't spot Bodhi for the rest of the day and, as frustrated as that had made her, she was reassured by the thought that the two would meet up later, even if it was basically against his will. After school, Ettie had driven home and worked on going over the Constitution, shoving any other work aside.
Her thoughts drifted back to Bodhi often, thinking of ways in which she could get more classes with him and how to find him in lunch, but she kept coming back to the amendments. It wasn't as dull as she had imagined; she was especially intrigued by any amendments that dealt with equality. She didn't know the extensive history of the United States, but she at least knew that without those foundations, people wouldn't be able to love as freely as they did today. There was still a long way to go, but humans were slowly getting there. After reading over it twice, she had memorized at least most of it considering that the Aequus had at least a somewhat good memory, save a few exact wordings here and there.
When the time finally came, Ettie had put her computer, a notebook, the newspapers, and some sweets in one of her large purses and gone to her car, a little powder blue Beetle that was probably way too fitting for her. Really, Ettie would've chosen the yellow one if it hadn't reminded her too much of Taxis.
It took her some time to drive to the place, but when she did, Ettie parked in the closest spot. She knew of bars, of course, but for some reason, Ettie didn't feel very comfortable as she walked in. Her eyes glanced around at the people who would think of hanging out at a bar so early on a weekday. For once, she wished she would've changed into pants or something. With a deep breath of the alcohol-infused air, Ettie walked towards the bar, now looking for Bodhi and putting a smile on her face. She didn't even think of her being underage as she took a seat, putting her purse on the empty stool beside her.

"Hold it!
He was almost where he wanted to be when the girl caught up with him and, seeing no other way to escape, Isaac came to a stop. The boy didn't turn around, however, for he was already feeling short of breath. Not because of the run, but because of what he feared would follow. Had she purposefully made it so that Isaac would run out and she could hit him without anyone else seeing her? The idea was a far shot, seeing how she had tried to help him, but Isaac wasn't exactly thinking rationally.
Isaac's eyes opened, even though he hadn't even realized when he closed them in the first place, when she heard Chris apologizing. His hand was fidgeting again, hiding the way it was actually shaking, as he turned around his eyes looking down at the polished school floor. He had come to know those floors personally. He managed to glance up for a second and catch her dark eyes, but his eyes shot back down in a split second.
Chris' words sounded sincere. It was the first time that someone had talked to him like that in a long time-- actually, no one had ever said anything like that before. He gulped and began, once again, to consider the idea of her helping him. As she concluded, Isaac nodded his head slightly and began walking back with her slowly. The last thing he needed was getting screamed at by the teacher, although it wouldn't be the first time Isaac walked out.
As he opened the gym door, Isaac froze, his hands on the bar. "I-I'll do it," he said in a soft tone, looking at Chris. There was obvious hesitation in his words; Isaac didn't want to do this, but something told him that he needed to. He could try it and stop if he didn't like it,
after all. "I only have a bike though, so I can't go too far."
Plus, his parents expected him back at a certain time. He could always say that he was working on a project with someone-- it would make them happy, for sure. "So, uh, where should we meet?"
There was a thin layer of perspiration on Isaac's skin. He had biked to where he was supposed to meet Chris for their after school "lessons". He had gone home right after school as he did every day, but today, he had told his mother that he would be meeting up with a partner, keeping the details vague. To her, it was enough to make her smile and let him go his way.
Parking his bike and putting a chain around it, Isaac hopped off. He felt a little nauseous as he walked to the door. Chris had talked about confidence and all that sort of thing in one of her mini rants and Isaac still wasn't fully convinced that this would be good for him. Only two more years until he could get out of this hole that is high school... surely he could make it without her lessons. He had survived before, even though the whole experience had not been too pleasant. At this point, Isaac just didn't think that there was a way to experience high school without the bullies breathing down his back.

But none of those things were going to stop her putting in an effort. A date was a date, and it wasn't going to be fun if she didn't put in an effort. So she wore her battle armour; her trusted red lipstick, a beloved pair of heels, and a LBD. Things that had never gone out of fashion and rightly never would. The type of clothes that made her feel like she was entirely in control, that reminded her of just how lethal she could be if she needed.
She sipped on a coffee, flicking through articles on the psychology of fear as she waited for Ivy to confirm that she was outside. This was another chance to reaffirm that she was in control. To make Ivy afraid of something, anything... of her. That wasn't an ideal situation. Zoe wanted Ivy to respect her, even like her, for some ungodly reason she couldn't quite understand. But if it was necessary for her to regain control, to escape the hellhole that was Earth, it had to be done. She just had to figure out how exactly to do it. She had thought that she knew everything about fear. And she had been right; what she didn't understand, however, was the people experiencing it. So that was what she had to work on.

He couldn't see Bernadette anywhere. He wouldn't have been surprised if she didn't show up. He couldn't have blamed her either. He didn't want to spend the evening with himself. Bernadette could have picked anyone else, why did she pick him? Somebody had asked him why she'd headed straight for him, if they knew each other outside of class or something, and Ollie had just been forced to shrug and say he didn't know either. He just wanted to... well, he didn't exactly want to go home either. He just wanted to teleport back into his room and sleep for a year or so until it all went away.
He couldn't do this. He couldn't- but he couldn't exactly abandon Bernie either. He couldn't just leave without an explanation, because then he'd have to deal with it tomorrow in class. Could he make up a lie? Say something had come up at home? That seemed like a better option. But when he pulled out his phone to send the text, his mind went blank. He just stared at the screen for a few seconds, trying to think of what the hell he was going to say.

"I only have a bike though, so I can't go too far," Isaac explained. "So, uh, where should we meet?"
I hadn't thought of that, Chris realized. Good thing I can think fast. Gulfport isn't like New York or Los Angeles though. It's bloody boring.
"Since you can't travel too far," Chris took her time to speak as she made stuff up on the spot. "Macs Coffee House on Beatline Road works. Thirty minutes after the bell. Feel free to walk into the door. Don't be late, I'm not exactly patient."
Now that she had given Isaac a location, all Chris needed to do was develop a strong idea of what the heck she was going to do with him. For their first "lesson", Chris supposed that they could just talk. There wasn't too much around Macs Coffee House; just a place for O'Cassedy to park his bike, and a couple of nearby stores. But apparently, getting coffee was a classic with the humans. It would suit Chris' needs.
After all, all Chris had to do was buy some coffee and crap while trying to get details on Isaac's personal life. Chris didn't have too much of a problem with that though. In order to teach someone like Isaac anger and how beneficial it could be when used correctly, Chris had to develop some confidence in him. Isaac was so meek, he didn't really have the nerve to get angry. At least, that's what Chris thought.
It was evident that Isaac's self-esteem and bullying issues went a bit deeper than just a bunch of jocks pushing him around. Chris had to get to the root of this problem to eradicate it. Specifically, Chris needed to understand Isaac's past.
The shitty part of this situation was that the Aequus hadn't a single clue about their human's past. When someone was drastically deprived of a specific emotion, their history played a substantial part in helping them. Chris definitely wasn't handed every detail of Isaac's childhood when she came down to Earth, so she was just going to get it herself.
The hazel-eyed brunette entered the coffee shop, stealing a couple glanced around the room. There were a few occupied tables, but overall, business was relatively slow.
Chris looked over the menu languidly, not even turning her head when the door opened once again.
"Oi, O'Cassedy," Chris greeted. She gestured towards the menu. "Want anything? I'll treat you." Chris turned to the lady who was patiently waiting for her order. "One salted caramel hot chocolate and a slice of your iced chocolate marble loaf cake please." Chris turned to Isaac. "Well? Do you want anything?"

Doing so gave him time to think. War was a really good place to start. But he also didn't want to depress the hell out of Kyler, because that wasn't exactly fair, and also not exactly what he was supposed to do. How the hell was he supposed to do that? This kid had never even seen a war movie; how was he going to handle being shown that the world was, in fact, a terrible, messy place? How was he supposed to strike a balance between those two things?
Was this what Renan was supposed to learn? How to strike a balance between complete depression and... whatever the hell Kyler was? He knew that most people had that balance right, but... that had always been a subconscious control, something he hadn't realised he'd been doing. Whenever he took conscious control, the problems started. It was almost like Renan was never really in control.
Renan shook his head, turning up the music in his headphones. He couldn't afford to think like this. He couldn't afford to overthink this and ultimately end up ruining someone's life... again. He looked up and realised that he was pretty much outside the library, and so took out one headphone and scanned the people around, looking for Kyler.

"Shit," she muttered under her breath, opening the door to pull her hem from it. Bern jogged around to the back, pulling her camera from the trunk. After double checking that she had her keys, phone and camera... again, she shut the trunk and jogged to the entrance.
It didn't take too long for Berny to find Ollie. She sighed softly, closing the distance between them. She slowly reached her hand out to rest upon his shoulder as she approached him from behind. "Hey, I am so sorry I'm late."
Bern moved to stand before him, giving an apologetic smile. "Traffic was... well, hell." She laughed weakly. When she raised a hand to scratch her head, she felt her birds nest of hair. It must have gotten thoroughly frazzled from her frustrating drive to the museum. Her cheeks flushed slightly, as she quickly pulled the pin from her hair, allowing it to fall past her shoulders. She quickly ran her fingers through her brunette curls, trying to make them somewhat presentable.
"I... uh... got my camera," she said, biting her lip slightly. Her gaze fell to the phone Ollie held in his hand, like he was about to text her. She smiled slightly. "I don't think you have my number, here," she said, holding her camera towards him. "Do you mind?" she asked, before taking his phone gently and placing her camera in his hand for him to hold for her.
Bernadette's thumbs moved along the screen, adding her name into his phone. Berny. 555.0137 She was about to save it, but decided to put a smiley after her name. Once saved, she sent herself a text so that she also had his number. Then, she held the phone out towards him. "There ago... Now you can't get rid of me." She chuckled with a sweet smile, but quickly realized how that sounded. "Well... you know, unless you don't want to be friends anymore."

When he got to the hole in the wall bar, there were already a few middle aged men straggling around the bar and some of the tables. IT wasn't surprising. There were always the regular day drinkers that were in the bar pretty much from open to close. They were the ones that kept the place a float, and they always tipped Bodhi well, so he didn't mind. They didn't want to be talked to. Just keep the drinks coming, and never let them see the bottom of their glass. It was easy, mindless and most of the time he never had to socialize more than asking what someone wanted to drink.
It wasn't long into his shift that he ran out of fresh bottles of bud light under the counter. He patted his hand on the counter in front of one of the regulars, Jim. "Just have to run to the back to grab you another. Did you need anything else?"
"Ya got any of them peanuts?"
"Sure, be right back." Bodhi gave his best attempt at a smile. Which was a barely visible tug at the corner of his mouth. The regulars new him and how he was. It never bothered them. Even though he wasn't talkative or friendly, he was never rude, or gave bad service.
When Bodhi walked around the counter, coming back to the front with a six pack in each hand and peanuts under his arm, he saw Ettie taking a seat. He sighed softly, diverting his gaze before she saw him looking at her. He slid the fresh bottles of bear into the under the counter cooler, pulling one out before closing the door. He clipped the bottle cap on the edge of the counter, slamming his hand down to pop the top. He set the bottle on the counter before Jim with a freshly chilled glass. Bodhi also grabbed a dish, pouring some peanuts into it for the man. "Here ya go, Jim. Sorry about that."
Jim smiled, toasting his drink towards Bodhi. "It's all good. Thanks for the cold one." He slid a fiver towards him.
Bodhi knew better than to refuse the tip. Most of the men in the bar were stubborn and wouldn't back down until he took the tip, no matter how ridiculous. He took the empty glasses from the counter and began cleaning them with a rag as he finally looked over with a more planned gaze towards Ettie.
Harry, an older gentleman that always sat at the corner of the bar smiled at Ettie. "Well, hello little lady." The man's hair was whiter than his teeth, but his smile was warm enough to make anyone smile... Even Bodhi. He was 70... maybe 80. Old war vet that greeted every person who entered the bar. "If you do not mind me saying, you are quite a beautiful young lady." He gave a warm chuckle. "You remind me of my late wife Barbara. She used to have dark hair like yours that glistened red in the sunlight... And a smile that was contagious."
Bodhi set the glasses in the sink, before grabbing a clean one. He filled it with ice and lemonade. He had no idea what Ettie drank, but she didn't look like an alcohol drinker. Something about her said lemonade. He walked over to the two of them, setting the fresh drink on a napkin before Ettie.
"Harry, I think she's a little young for you... Don't you think?" He said, taking an empty glass from Harry. He then got the old man another scotch on the rocks.
"Oh, Bodhi... You know I can't help but compliment a pretty woman." Harry smiled towards Ettie again.
"Harry is harmless," Bodhi said towards Ettie. There may have been a tiny bit of sarcasm in his voice. Harry chuckled at the comment, taking a drink of his scotch. Bodhi felt the need to explain Harry's actions. In part because he didn't know Ettie would react, but all the men in the bar were harmless. They were the type to beat a man for being inappropriate to a woman.
Harry chuckled, taking a drink from his scotch. "I just like to appreciate a warm smile every once in awhile. This place is in short supply of smiles." He smiled towards Ettie one last time with a nod of his head.
Bodhi didn't say anything at the comment. He knew part of that was geared towards himself. No one in this bar has seen him smile aside from a sarcastic or snide smile for humors sake, nothing genuine. He hasn't genuinely smiled since before his sister. It wasn't likely that would change anytime soon. His hand raised to brush back loose strands of hair as he wiped down the counter. "See you found the place."

It took Ivy awhile of sifting through her wardrobe to find the appropriate outfit. Something that was more... revealing than the average outfit to get the juices flowing. But still left enough up to the imagination. Not too much though. Just enough so that it'd make it even harder for Zoe to refuse an invitation to go park somewhere after dinner. She put on her favorite blood red lipstick, grabbed a leather jacket and headed out.
It wasn't long before she pulled into Zoe's driveway. Ivy's '68 mustang rumbled before she shut it off and climbed out of the driver's seat. She shut the door before strutting her way towards the girl's front door. As she stepped onto the porch, she put her sunglasses on her head. After brushing some of the wrinkles out of her skirt, Ivy rang the door bell. She propped her right shoulder against the door frame, waiting for Zoe to answer.
Once the door open, a smirk crossed Ivy's devious lips. "Well, hello there," she said, giving Zoe the once over with her eyes and a quirk of her brow. She pursed her lips in satisfaction before she continued. "Looks like we dressed to match... scandalous." With that, Ivy stepped aside, offering Zoe her arm. "Are you ready for a night you'll never forget?"

dialogue | #f1c40f
Her brown eyes turned and saw an older man. At first, Ettie was slightly taken back, surprised by the stranger who had approached her, but this initial reaction was quickly gone. Contrary to what she would've expected to find at a bar at this hour, this man radiated a level of... love, something that she had yet to feel around the high school. It was so inviting to her that it was like a small gravitational pull for the Aequus.
"Thank you, sir," she replied to the compliment. The words that followed confirmed why she was feeling the pull and she couldn't help but smile warmly at the older man. "It sounds like you loved her a lot," she said in a soft voice, always enamored by the way humans expressed her emotion, and glancing over at Bodhi for a moment. It was somewhat easy for Ettie to sense love down here on earth but she couldn't feel the pain and heartbreak associated with losing someone you love-- which was, in fact, the very reason she was here on earth.
It was then that Bodhi approached them, setting down a glass in front of her. Pleasantly surprised, Ettie looked up at Bodhi and thanked him.
"Don't worry, Bodhi," Ettie said with a small laugh, hearing his comment about being too young. He was right and if it hadn't been for the older man's aura, Ettie would've probably taken Harry's approaching the way Bodhi insinuated, "Harry here has been good company."
She watched the man walk away for a moment before turning her stool back so she could face Bodhi. Ettie nodded at his comment, "I did. And I learned the Constitution like I promised."
Ettie then reached into her back and pulled out two or three newspapers, only a fraction of what she had brought. The first title was already highlighted, with the constitution number written in pencil in the margins. She then reached inside again and pulled out a Tupperware container, putting it down on the counter and sliding it towards Bodhi, "I also brought you some cookies. I don't know if you eat before coming to work."
Taking a sip of her lemonade, Ettie smiled at him, "How has the rest of your day been, by the way?"

He nodded slightly in greeting at Chris and took a seat in front of her, putting his backpack on the ground.
Under the table, he wiped his palms on his jeans. At the offer of food, Isaac felt his stomach grumble in protest of low food and he was thankful for the offer, although he would've probably gotten himself anything either way. He was opening his mouth to thank her, but she was already ordering. When the attention turned back to him, his eyes widened slightly as he looked up at the waitress. Reaching out for the menu on the table, he did a quick scan of the items, seeing most of the familiar things she would find at a coffee shop, from the coffees to teas to the bakery session.
"Can I have, uh... a banana bread and iced tea, please?" He said after a few seconds, closing the menu and putting it back down on the table.
The waitress wrote down the order and took the menus, leaving them for the meanwhile.
"Thanks for the food," he said softly, smiling a bit. He hadn't gone out with a friend in a really long time and, although he couldn't consider Chris a friend since he barely knew her, he couldn't help but admit that it felt kind of nice. He had very few friends as it was and for those rare times that they met, it was most likely to play video games or something like that. "So, uh, how long have you lived here in Gulport?" he asked after a moment, unsure of how this conversation should go about.

"Can I have, uh...a banana bread and iced tea, please?" Isaac asked after a few moments of awkward silence. He closed the menu and set it back down on the table as the redheaded waitress nodded vigorously. She turned to Chris.
"Would you two like anything else?" she asked, clearly new enough to the job to feel eager about it, but definitely not green enough to not understand what to do.
"Nah, we're good," Chris answered for both her and Isaac in a rather languid manner. The waitress thought nothing about it, quickly striding towards the kitchen.
She's not one of the slow, let's-make-friends-with-our-customers types of employees, Chris thought to herself as she turned back to Isaac. Thank fuck, those types fucking piss me off.
"Thanks for the food," Isaac said softly, a small smile on his face. He clearly wasn't faking the gratitude. Chris shrugged nonchalantly.
"I brought you to a coffee shop," she stated dryly. "What else would I do?" Chris thought that much was obvious, although she wasn't going to refuse her human's gratitude.
There was a moment of awkward silence - contrary to popular belief, Anger was quite introverted and reserved, and wasn't too good of a conversationalist. ""So, uh, how long have you lived here in Gulfport?" Isaac was the one to break the ice, surprisingly.
"Definitely not as long as you," Chris stated the obvious. "I transferred schools this year though, so that's probably why you've never seen me. I came with my adopted sister, too," Chris barely refrained from cringing - she didn't hate Happiness at all, but sister was a bit much. "Bernadette Novak? You probably know her - she's clearly the sweetheart out of the two of us. People think we wouldn't get along that well, but I've survived with her since I was adopted thirteen years ago; we're cool."
Chris paused with her speaking when the redheaded waitress came back, an overly cheerful smile on her face. She set down the food gently. "One salted caramel hot chocolate and a slice of iced chocolate marble loaf cake for you," the waitress - her name tag said MARJO in big letters, which Chris recognized as Dutch - managed to say all that in one breath. Marjo turned to Isaac and set down his food. "And a slice of banana bread and one iced tea for you." Marjo turned to face both of them, a smile permanently plastered over her bright pink lips. "Enjoy your food!"
Chris nodded slightly, taking a long sip of her hot chocolate as the waitress went away. She took a bite of her cake. "I'm not sensitive about my history, so if you want to know something, ask away," she told Isaac. "But what about you? How's your family life? Have a nice time in elementary or not?" Chris tried to be direct without coming on too strong - Isaac's past might be a touchy subject for him. Chris wanted to get her information quickly and cleanly. She wasn't afraid to be brutal, but for this assignment, she had to tread lightly.

"나는 집에있다!" Kyler called out his family's customary greeting as he opened his front door and headed into his house. One of his sisters, Vienne, gave him a practiced smile as he entered the kitchen. Vienne was a junior in Berkeley, and was currently majoring in business. She was on a one-week vacation, and was to head back to California in five days.
"How're you doing, Ky?" Vienne asked her brother as she poured a little cooking oil into her pan. "What's high school like nowadays?"
"School's okay," he responded cheerily. Vienne nodded absentmindedly as he spoke; outwardly, she was selectively mute and not one to go against the tide, but Kyler knew that his clever sister secretly kicked ass behind the scenes. "I have to be at the library in about an hour, though. I'm partnering up with Renan Bittencourt for French."
"Never heard of him," Vienne said bluntly, adding ingredients to her pan. Vienne was fluent in six languages - English, Korean, French, German, Russian, and Mandarin - along with being able to speak conversational Japanese and Arabic. Her choices in high school for her language course were quite limited.
"He's relatively new," Kyler explained, which basically meant that he didn't know Renan since kindergarten. "We're working on a project about a French war - we haven't decided which war yet, though."
Kyler caught Vienne furrowing her brows as she plated her concoction which turned out to be her and Kyler's afternoon snack. "French wars?" she asked in almost a suspicious manner. "That doesn't really seem like your speed."
Kyler shrugged. "I suggested food at first," he explained, which earned a slight eyeroll from Vienne. Kyler bit into his food. "But Renan wanted to do something about wars. It doesn't seem that bad. We're going to the library to get a movie."
Vienne paused, her food halfway to her mouth. "A movie," she repeated, as if she didn't quite believe it. "A war movie...as in blood? And conflict?"
"Sure, that's one way to put it."
Vienne swallowed a bite of her food. "Lovely," she forced through her teeth. She took a long sip of water. "You should get going, though. This Renan might not want to wait for you."
Kyler hopped off his chair, smiling brightly at his older yet slightly shorter sister. "Yeah, I probably should," he said, grabbing his stuff. "Bye, Vienne!"
Kyler left, oblivious to his elder sister rubbing her temples.
"Do you have any ideas for what movie we should check out?" Kyler asked once Renan had approached him. "As you probably know, I'm kinda new to this."

Zoe did her best to maintain her resting bitch face as she opened the door. She maintained it even as Ivy gave her the once over. But Ivy's comment about their matching outfits made her smirk as she pulled the door closed behind her. Something was making Zoe's heart pound faster than she would have liked, but she didn't dare let herself show it. She rolled her eyes, but took Ivy's arm. "Me and my impossibly high standards can't wait to see what you have in store," she remarked, still smirking. She hadn't wanted to look forward to the evening, but now she couldn't quite stop herself.
"She wasn't quite sure what she'd expected Ivy to drive, but the car waiting outside wasn't exactly it. She raised an eyebrow. "Nice car." She didn't know much about cars. So she bluffed. "More the type of car I'd expect to see in a movie car chase than driving around Bridgeport, though." She remarked, a little teasingly. She could guess that speed didn't scare Ivy, then. This car looked like it was built for speed, for the aforementioned getaways.

xxx"i don't know how to word it,

He took her camera and let her take his phone, quickly tapping out of the messaging app before he did so. He hadn't even freaking thought about the fact that he didn't have her number. Why was he like this? Why was he such a mess? He shoved his free hand back in to his pocket as she put her number into his phone. He wanted to look forward to this, he really did, but even with Bernie right here in front of him, all he wanted to do was be somewhere where he just... didn't have to be a person for a while. He'd probably just mess this project up as well and drag her grade down.
He forced a bit of a smile as she made the joke about not being able to get rid of her. "Don't think you need to worry about that," he replied as she added about him not wanting to be her friend any more. That was a laughable concept. People tended to drift away from Ollie or storm out of his life long before he ever got a chance to do that.
"So, uh, do you wanna head in?" He asked, shoving his phone and his other hand into his pocket. His hands were still shaking slightly, and he wanted to hide it as best he could.

Berny smiled softly. "Well, good." She nodded her head towards him. It was nice to know that Ollie, at least, didn't intend on shutting her out. She knew this was more than making a friend... But her job. But, more than that, Bern truly wanted to befriend him. Something about him caused this sort of magnetic pull. She wanted to help him feel happiness, to know he has a friend and someone to rely on. Everyone needs that. Regardless of the underlying intentions.
She couldn't help the also guilty feeling that tugged at the bottom of her stomach. Bernadette felt like, in part, she was being dishonest and misleading. Not that she was lying or being anything but genuine. It was just that, knowing that she was 'happiness'. And that she had no choice in being there... made her feel... bad. What would happen if or when their humans found out? When they're ripped out of the world leaving a hole in that persons life where they worked so hard to be part of it? She shook her head, trying not to dwell on it.
"So, uh, do you wanna head in?"
"Of course," Bern replied, slipping her camera strap over her left shoulder, tucking the lens in towards her side. Being the playful person she is, she slipped her right arm around his left, allowing him to lead the way—something she did with her friends quite often. It didn't cross her mind that it may be crossing line. She hoped not.
"I feel like you know this place better than I do. So, you lead the way and I'll snap the pictures." She glanced over at him, smiling softly.

Bodhi nodded his head, glancing at her from the corner of his eye as he continued to wipe down the counters and removed empty glasses. He watched begin to pull newspapers and lord knows what else from her backpack. God, he couldn't believe this. Why him? Why was it that there always seemed to be that one person every month or so determined to wiggle and worm their way into his life? Was there a sign plastered on his forehead or something?
He did a double take when, Ettie also pulled out a tupperware container and set it on the counter. It caused him to freeze where he stood momentarily before continuing to clean. "I also brought you some cookies. I don't know if you eat before coming to work."
Bodhi just stared at it for a minute like it was an alien, then looked over at the brunette. "Uh... thanks?" He had no idea what else to say. He was far too tired and he had too much on his mind to say anything else. She'll get a kick out of something not totally sour coming from his lips.
"How has the rest of your day been, by the way?" Ettie asked.
Bodhi moved along the bar, topping off the regulars drinks or getting them fresh beers. "Uneventful," he replied rather deadpanned. He then poured himself a glass of iced tear. He may be an unconventional bartender, a little too young to 'technically' be allowed to serve alcohol. May not be one for rules either. But, Bodhi did not drink. His late step father made him strongly hate just about everything to do with the poison. Thankfully the men in the bar were kind, quiet and definitely not angry drunks.

Ivy grinned, leading the blonde down the sidewalk and to the car. "What's the use of standards, if not to break them?" She asked with a flare of sarcasm. She didn't dare humor Zoe by telling her what was in store. What was the fun in that? It was going to be a long night. And all that Ivy knew was, no matter how much Zoe tried to convince herself while getting ready that she was prepared for what the night had in store. She wasn't.
"Nice car." Ivy moved around Zoe, opening the door for her. After all, you can only blow their mind if you are also polite. Ivy made her way around the car and slide into the driver seat. "More the type of car I'd expect to see in a movie car chase than driving around Bridgeport, though."
Ivy didn't say anything as she started her car, and... In a very dramatic way, revved the engine. "Oh honey, you have no idea." From the corner of her eye, she looked over the blonde once again, then nodded her head towards her. "Seat belts... or this show isn't going anywhere."
She waited for Zoe to get buckled in, then sped off down the road. Some might think Ivy was showing off, but in all honesty, she drove the same she does when alone. Fast but skilled like Vin Diesel.... But with boobs. In no time, they pulled up to one of the fanciest and most expensive restaurants in the greater city area. One thing Ivy wasn't short on, was money. Plus, nothing like misleading her date than with a very very nice dinner followed by the real fun.
Ivy pulled her mustang around to the valet, where a young gentleman opened the door for her. She climbed out of the seat, paying no mind to the boy who practically drooled over her. Ivy's sights were set on Zoe that night. Blonde and only blonde was all that she wanted to see. She strutted her way around the front of the car, once again opening the door for her date. "I hope you like authentic Italian." She held out her arm once again, unable to hide the smirk that graced her lips.

Taking a long sip of the served refresher, she took one of the newspapers, quickly skimming over the words.
After a few minutes, she looked back up and folded the newspaper. "School is kind of far, do you walk or drive here?" she asked, taking another drink from her cup. Looking outside, through the tinted windows, she could see that it would start getting dark soon. "Do you live around here?" She added, wondering if Bodhi had to walk in the dark. It wasn't that she thought he couldn't handle it, but she also thought perhaps how tired he could be after long shifts.

Unlike Chris, Isaac wasn't too fond of sharing his past so he shrugged, taking a longer sip of his cold drink than normal. "I moved here six months ago," he said, shrugging again and breaking off a piece of his banana bread. "But nothing special. So, uh, how are you liking it here? Where did you live before this?" He added, wanting to shift the attention away from himself.

"Berny and I lived in northern California," Chris smoothly made something up on the spot, stirring her hot chocolate before taking a sip. "Nothing even remotely exciting at all," the brunette scoffed, lowering her mug. "Even Gulfport's more interesting. So, what about you? Where'd you live before moving to Gulfport?" Chris paused to take a bite of her cake. "I mean, I get it if you'd rather not share all of your painful life secrets, but you could at least tell me where you came from.
"And anyway, beating up your bullies goes beyond punching someone where the sun doesn't shine. Hear me out, this stuff is deep psychological shit that I'm not smart enough to delve into, but if bullies are a problem from your past, then in all honesty, you could beat the shit out of all the assholes who want to rip you a new one, but it still wouldn't be enough." Chris shrugged nonchalantly. "Just a thought. You may have not known me very long, but lemme tell you, talking stuff out is really helpful for someone like me - a person who's helping you out of the kindness in my heart." Chris dramatically tapped a fist to her chest. She knew Isaac was going to keep up his "avoid these personal questions at all cost" act - and if Chris was honest, it was the sensible thing to do - but she was just becoming the slightest bit desperate. Anger wasn't known for her patience, which was a quality one needed when dealing directly with Earth and humans, but Chris just wanted out of this "learning a deep career lesson as an Aequus" shit.
Okay, sure, the food on Earth was good, and there was much more... life to the planet than where the Aequus had been residing since the beginning of time, but as tantalizing as human life was, Chris would always be Anger, and Anger was an Aequus. Aequus did not belong on Earth, nor among humans.
Poor little O'Cassedy was just going to have to deal with Chris pounding him into a mold he needed to fit.
