Even though the African country of Maonde is mostly desert with a beautiful coastline, life seems somewhat decent there. However since the slowing economy due to less tourism, there has been high unemployment. So the people tend to do little jobs to get by or grow their own food in their gardens. Occasionally someone from neighboring Umquambe comes by for a business trip and generally Umquambans and Maondans get along well.

In the town of Harris Bay, many people know each other and the towns main sources of labour are fishing, producing salt or mining for copper. Things haven't changed so much here. People still earn enough working only half-days and the neighborhoods get along well. If there is a place with a low crime rate in Maonde, it is Harris Bay. Our story begins in the neighborhood of Mawasisi where many are expecting the economy to get better with a new airport being built nearby with a rail connection to the capital of Williamstown. The neighborhood is getting ready for the festival of Ndangadesi, the Maondan Thanksgiving where the entire neighborhood celebrates on the street together.

Country info: Maonde is a large desert country of 400,000 sq km. It has a population of roughly 25 million. It's capital is Williamstown (pop. 350,000). Premier is Premier Benjamin Kwame and his vice Anasha Ndange. Ruling party is the Liberal Peoples Party of Maonde (LPPM). Main industries are copper, fishing, salt, tourism and custom auto parts. The south is mostly poor and less populated while the north and the coast in the west are more well off. Official languages are English, German and Mbapo. Demography: 94% African, 4% Asian and 2% European. Religion: 60% Christianity, 5% Islam, 25% indigenous beliefs, 5% Buddhist and 5% without belief.

Harris Bay (also Arrisbeh or Harrys Bai) is a town of 25,000 on the northwestern coast of Maonde. The average income is 8000 dollars US or 40000 Maonde Imande. Unemployment is at 10% however the town is a tight nit community that tends to help each other out. In most neighborhoods crime is almost unheard of. Currently there is a rail line to Asonda in Umquambe to the north and a bus line to the capital. An airport is being built as well as a rail line to the capital.
