Even with success, the battle is never over. After achieving victory and a higher position, one must also put up a defense against the many competitors that want to wrench away your laurels.

Vincent plays the part of a refined and pleasant gentlemen well in most situations, but it's easy enough to push his buttons if you know where they are to reveal glimpses of his true feelings on matters. Vincent often becomes impatient when doing things he feels are unimportant, or that don't seem to give any visible progress. Setbacks on his own studies tend to leave him frustrated, though this anger is frequently directed inward rather than to others; and as he becomes upset with himself, this only tends to create more mistakes and problems. Due to his isolated nature, Vincent has a lot of trouble receiving assistance or leading, frequently trying to tackle all problems on his own, as he feels that they wouldn't be done satisfactorily without his personal care. That said, he is an extremely hard and dedicated worker, reliably giving tasks his all, ensuring the job is done right the first time.
To the friends that Vincent does keep, he's loyal and friendly, if sometimes a little stiff or focused on work rather than socialising. Though not incapable of joking and having fun, he does find it hard to 'switch off' the side of him that needs to keep busy, and as such, finds it difficult to both relax and enjoy relaxing. To him, he finds being productive enjoyable in its own way, and frequently finds the most enjoyment when working towards a goal. Reading a book, making a work of art, anything that has a clear end and the satisfaction of completion brings a smile to his face. The exception to his need for productivity is that of healthy competition, be that in sport, magic or knowledge. Vincent has a fondness for such games that test both skill and the mind, relishing the thrill of victory, with any loss a sign that perhaps he has room to improve and more to strive for. Though he is a good friend, Vincent isn't afraid to be blunt about what he feels is inappropriate or conflicts with his values, refusing to tolerate bullying and the like. Thankfully, he's learned to at least pull people aside for such discussions. Most of the time, at least.

Multiple objects, larger objects, complex or moving objects, the length of the stasis and the distance between Vincent and the object(s) after initialising the link alter the amount of mana required for Vincent to maintain this stasis. At present, this ability does not appear to work on any living entities. Testing around liquids has been intriguingly successful; however, gases have proven themselves to be almost impossible, with the density of the vapours key in whether they can be put in stasis. Individuals other than Vincent have been shown to be unable to break or move affected items; though extreme force does seem to require more mana to maintain the stasis. Like Vincent, the objects seem to show an indomitable will to remain standing against all odds.

Despite his family distancing themselves from him, it was necessary that Vincent followed in the etiquette and traditions of his family in order to keep up appearances. The boy happily obliged, taking whatever lessons were sent his way, in addition to magical studies. He was a formidable fencer, a stunning pianist, a gallant dancer and could ride horses with the best of them. Yet, he always seemed to have his own mark on the activities, a unique flair showing his own will. Instead of playing the classical tunes associated with his lineage, Vincent would frequently look for something with a faster tempo. Rather than simply trot his horse across the field, he'd prepare show jumps and other fanciful ways to flavour his riding. No matter the event, Vincent always challenged himself, regardless of the outcome. Success tested his ability, while failure undeniably helped build his character and improved his talents. Though he was often reprimanded and questioned for his disobedience, Vincent would frequently debate the situation. Why settle for mediocrity? How are we sure that tradition is the best method if we do not experiment? Have I not learned what was asked of me? Most of the time, his cheek would be overlooked; though occasionally the servants dedicated to his development provided a swift lesson in humility to the back of his head. These studies however, were not the defining moments of Vincent's childhood.
Aside from his caretakers, Vincent did not associate much with the rest of his family. Something of a black sheep, he would frequently be left to his own devices ever since he drew his tarot. The lone exception to this was his elder sister, Catherine. He hadn't known why no one associated with her. She was sweet, kind, friendly, cheerful; she even did whatever the family asked of her. Either way, the similarities in their situation led to a kinship between the two. She enjoyed his company as he did hers. And yet, such innocence could only last so long. Vincent wasn't there when Catherine died. She'd been bedridden for some time, but with his lack of connection to his relatives, no one ever really explained it. Impatient for answers, he snuck into her room one evening, only to find it empty. Curiously perplexed, he continued to ask after her, constantly finding himself pushed away, until at last, someone deigned to give him the truth. She was gone. Taken by a curse known only to target those born and raised out of wedlock. It was nonsensical. Yes, magic existed, but it followed rules. And if it followed rules, it could be understood, and overcome. Catherine had done nothing to deserve her fate, and yet her life had been claimed. Worse yet, everyone seemed to believe it was justified. That it was to be expected for those that showed the greed of man. Vincent would not accept that. Catherine may have had her faults, but she was still human, and a kinder, gentler soul than anyone he'd met. Greed was not a part of the equation, and if this was due punishment for the apparent crimes of her parents, then why not strike down those who committed it?
Ever since the death of his elder half-sister - the most recent individual unfortunate enough to meet their end at the hands of the diluted-blood curse - Vincent has dedicated himself to researching this fatal phenomenon, with the goal of finding a way to allow other diluted bloods to live full and happy lives. To him, the circumstances of oneâs birth should be irrelevant to such things, and though he proudly proclaims this to anyone who asks about his views, heâs learned to maintain a degree of restraint and tact after the incident that prevented him from graduating during his third year. Having been outspoken on his views, Vincent found himself instigating a brawl with a handful of other students regarding the 'worth' of diluted individuals. Though there was no lethal injuries, the drama was enough to keep him held back, in addition to giving him somewhat of a reputation around the school as a 'sympathiser' and 'delinquent' student. To that end, he has learned to mostly keep to himself in studying and the like, as sooner or later those that grow to like his company tend to oppose his almost taboo interests and controversial opinions. As such, his notoriety has lowered somewhat since that initial incident, but the mysterious and lone nature he maintains is enough to help rumours spread. Regardless of his current social situation, Vincent is wholeheartedly dedicated to his study of healing magic, and is an exemplary student in regards to the coursework.
