Introduction

THE SETUP:

Many people are familiar with the Ouija Board, a piece of wood with letters painted or etched into it, with a pointer used to spell out messages from the spirits of the dead during a seance. Well, what people do not realize is that the original Ouija was something completely different. So come join the adventure and discover its true nature and origin.

BASICS OF GAME PLAY:

1. This RPG is Setup as a mystery/adventure

2. Members start off with no idea of the true Ouija board or its origins, but are only familiar with the classic wooden board with letters and pointer, designed to communicate with the dead.

3. Through the RP members will learn of and uncover each of the 4 items which make up the original Ouija board.

4. The first part will be found in a specific place, the others will be found using clues gathered from this first location.

THE PLOT:

Please read the following page for general information on the Ouija board

http://www.castleofspirits.com/ouijaboards.html

The origins of the Ouija board begin with two sisters; the Fox sisters, who actively claimed to communicate with spirits on a regular basis. They developed a system of knocks for each letter of the alphabet and so communicated with the spirit world using this method. Word traveled fast about the sisters' talent of contacting the dead and soon everyone from America to Europe wanted to do the same. In 1891 two gentlemen, Elijah Bond and Charles Kennard, had an idea to attach a planchette (pointer) to a board with the alphabet on it and had in fact invented the first Ouija board. Dr. Aldo Curry, the medical director of the 'Danvers Insane Asylum' of New York claimed that his asylum was witness to an outbreak of mass insanity, all stemming from the publics fascination and obsession with the 18th century parlor game. Dr. Walter Miller and his colleque Abegial McHugh are professors at Marshall College in Conneticut, along with their mentor Dr. Henry Jones. Walter is determined to recover the Quija device, a life long obsession, hopefully with the help of someone he can trust.

Abegail cringed as the group came nearer and nearer. She couldn't take her eyes off of them. Walter looked at her and his eyes were a little wide as his gaze went over her shoulder. She turned to see the sight of even more of the inmates standing outside with them. The pair was trapped.

The helmet was wrenched from her hands and take back inside the building. Abegail gritted her teeth in annoyance. She really wanted to hit someone but knew it would be of no help to them. The doctor and Walter conversed. Abegail's eyes burned holes into the doctor. He was using these people to do his bidding. Why? How? To what ends?

The doctor gave word that they should be escorted inside. "I am no friend of yours." Abegail's voice was a harsh whisper. She walked closely to Walter, afraid of the inmates and the clearly insane man who led them.

Abegail grabbed Walter's arm, "What is going on?" She was confused, angry and scared. The answer never got a chance to come from Walter as they were led into the basement of the asylum, her arms yanked behind her to ensure her cooperation. The pair did their best not to gag on the wretched, dank place.

Abegail's eyes took in the thing that was assembled in front of her but she frowned slightly. She looked at Walter hoping for an explanation and wishing it would come from him, not the mentally unstable doctor.

She could see the helmet, which they had taken from her, the box that Walter had hidden but they obviously found and a few other strange items. She almost laughed at the absurdity of the scene. Did he really think he could talk to the dead with that thing? What was the use?

Abegail decided to let Walter handle the doctor, she began looking for a way out. She had a feeling the doctor was going to take great pleasure in filling them in on his wonderfully, crazy scheme and while he did, Abegail intended to use the time to get them out of this hell.

Now that Doctor Curry had a captive audience, so to speak, he proceeded to showcase his wonderful acquisition, though by this point even Walter had had enough. "I won't bore you with the finer details of the devices specific components. I'm sure Dr. Miller is well aware of the specifics, and you my dear Abigail" Pausing for a second with a taunting fayed-embarrassed look, "Oh excuse me. Doctor McHugh." Smiling smugly he continued. "As you can see there are ten 32" disks fixed to the machine, the long rod on the right side sports two brushes made from thin silver strips.

In between each disc there are additional sets of brushes. When you turn the crank the brushes making contact with the metal discs creates an electrostatic charge, essentially making this the unit which powers the helmet. Originally, similar machines were used to power old x-ray tubes. Now obviously this machine can only be used in places where there is already ghost activity, it does not conjure ghosts. I'm afraid you must put all of that nonsense about it being used to conjure demons, or what-have-you, out of your minds. I'm sure your aware that ghosts give off a charge of their own, and that they can manipulate various forms of ambient noise, and even those sound and light forms which we cannot perceive with out human senses. Which of course exist all around us, and at all times, though we lack the perception to comprehend them. Ghosts, being aspects of these very forces can interact with them, or so the current academic theory tells us."

Now pointing at the odd flat disc pendant.

"You both of course recall the classic novel Frankenstein?" Now looking toward Walter and Abigail. "Well, here we have a galvanic generator in the form of an amulet, the basis of such devices being to use certain metals that are juxtaposed to create beneficial therapeutic currents." Walking to the device Aldo took it in hand and presented it to Walter and Abagail. "Here the galvanic generator is used in very much the same manner. The metals used to form the disc are mercury, used for centuries for good health; usually ingested. And of course Mercury was the messenger of the gods, you see. Silver is the other metal used, as you might be aware in Alchemy silver corresponds to the state of 'Whiteness' and signifies matter that has been completely purified. The pendant is therefore used to create positive and beneficial interactions between the mortal and the spirit."

Returning the disc to the table Aldo called to his henchmen. "Strap Abigail down into that chair."

Abegail sneered when the doctor referred to her as "dear Abegail." She immediately tuned out his description of the device, her mind preoccupied with how to get out of the situation.

She looked around the room. There were too few exits and far too many people in the room that would get in her way. Abegail was looking at the windows, despite how tiny and high up they were and considering how manyof the inmates she could hit with her book laden briefcase.

The doctor came close to show them something and Abegail only gave it a haphazard look. What Abegail wanted to do was knock the thing out of his hand and give him a good punch in the face but instead she narrowed her eyes at him.

He ordered Abegail strapped to the chair and she laughed, "I donna think so." Abegail began to struggle against the hands that held her wrists. If she could just get on free she could swing her briefcase at the lunatic and then maybe even hit the doctor.

Abegail twisted and turned in the madman's hands and managed to wrench her shoulder slightly in the process. It did no good as the person holding her began to push her towards the chair. "You are insane." She spat at the doctor and dug her heels into the floor.

With a final twist of her body she semi-faced the inmate that held her and brought her knee up into his gut hard. He loosened his grip just enough that Abegail was able to free one hand and she swung her briefcase with all her strength at the man. It contacted, sending the inmate to the floor and Abegail breathing heavily with the effort.

She scanned the room waiting to see who would come after her next and how in the world she was going to free Walter.

"I wish Indy were here." Walter said to himself. "He could take out three guys with no weapons easily. Oh well, guess Ill have to summon up his skill." Thinking further, then speaking out loud in order to surprise his captors "Time for the old One, Two." And with that Walter stepped on the foot of inmate who was detaining him, then turning to face him Walter punched the man in the face; hurting his hand in the process. The lunatic fell to the ground as Walter spun around once more and grabbed doctor Curry by the lapels of his fancy suit. "You have a seat doctor." Walter then pushed Aldo back into the chair which had been set up with the four devices.

When he fell back into the chair the helmet, which had been fixed to a support pole and positioned over the seat, fell against the powering device. The pre-cranked machine spat forth sparks and activated. Unfortunately Doctor Curry had not placed his feet on the dampening system and the galvanic plate was not around his neck.

Dr. Aldo Curry was murdered by his long time associate and financier George P. Luster. Once a renowned physician and scientist Dr. Curry had become obsessed with the inventions of a certain scientist who was linked with the Fox sisters, who had been responsible for the growing popularity of the Spiritualist movement of the late 18th centuries. Although he had professed the discovery of one of the inventions said to enable one to communicate with the dead, in fact he already discovered the entire apparatus, but had kept this secret from his peers and the rest of the academic world.

Soon after taken the position as head of the Dancer's Asylum in upstate New York he began to study the device in great detail. Not long after he began human experiments on some of the hospital inmates, and to great success. Within the months that followed Dr. Curry had tested the device on scores of patients, several of whom had met their death at the doctors hands. The Asylum had known many deaths over the centuries in which it functioned, having been a mental hospital even before the construction of the current building.

Some believe that the spirits who haunted the new institute were those of the original, for while the building was demolished the ghosts remained to haunt the area upon which it once stood. These were the spirits which Doctor Curry had transferred into the bodies of his patients at Danvers. These were now the spirits that are entering his body while under the influence of the spirit communication device.

Abegail watched as Walter punched an inmate and then grabbed the doctor. She hadn't expected him to be much of a man of action. It was a bit rough of a fight, clearly not something he did often, "He is no Indy..." Abegail chuckled in her thoughts. It was effective though.

Abegail jumped out of the way as Walter shoved the doctor into the seat of the device. The helmet fell, and the machine began to come alive. Abegail raised her arm, shielding her eyes from the sparks that began to shoot out of the device. The doctor yelled and Abegail cringed. She backed away a bit and then remembered the other inmates that were in the room. "Walter....Walter....we need to get out here...."

Abegail blinked, her eyes trying to deal with the light the machine was giving off in contrast to the dank, dim room. She could make out forms, shadows really and nothing more. "Damn it." She wasn't even sure at this point where Walter was. She raised her briefcase, intending to use it as a weapon as needed, as she tiptoed towards a few of the shadows in an attempt to locate her colleague.

"Walter." She called his name through clenched teeth. They needed to get out of here, to get to a phone and call the authorities.

Meanwhile, the machine sparked, popped and the smell of slightly burnt flesh rose in the air.

The sparks and smoke mixed with the dimmed atmosphere within the small room cast odd shapes upon the walls as Walter peered through the haze to find Abigail. Walter had lost one colleague during this quest and he wasn't about to lose another, particularly one who he has become fond of over the past few days. "Abigail, where are you." Walter called out before walking off into the dark in an attempted to find his friend. Walter didn't need to search long, after walking only a few feet he had bumped into her. Grabbing her hand after much fumbling to find it within the darkness, Walter and Abigail went for the doorway. The violent flashes of light from the sparking and sputtering machine started to die out until the room was once again reclaimed by darkness. Walter and Abigail turned around when they heard the final tormented scream of the doctor, who unbeknownst to them was an impostor and not Dr. Aldo Curry.

Abegail started slightly when someone bumped into her, raising the briefcase for protection. She quickly realized the hand that grabbed her was Walter's and not an inmates. The pair headed for the doorway, only turning as the doctor screamed and then went silent. Abegail bit her lip, holding back an exclamation of horror and continued on with Walter. The two made for the exit, first ascending from the basement.

Cautiously, Abegail stepped onto the main floor of the asylum. "Walter? Do we make a run for it or do we call for help?" Abegail desperately wanted to be out of here but she didn't feel right just leaving Andrea's body here. She was also unsure if they were still in danger from the inmates now that the doctor was dead. And what had they done with the staff? Should they look for them?

Unbeknownst to either professor, Gabriela had been in the states when she got in touch with Abegail. She had called back to the college and finding out that Abegail had embarked on a trip to New York decided to follow. Gabriela had hoped that Abegail was tracking down the information that she had asked her for. If the scholar happened upon something of importance Gabriela wanted to be near by.

She had followed the trio to the asylum, had been watching from the woods as they entered the doctor's cottage, had seen Walter with the box and had been extremely glad she had followed Dr McHugh. Gabriela had remained carefully hidden as she watched the trio attempt to steal the helmet from the doctor's office and when Andrea fell to her death. It was of no matter to her of course, sometimes people died in the name of science.

She followed as the inmates had lead the professor's into the basement. Gabriela stepped out of the shadows as the two appeared on the main floor. She had her gun in her hand, levelled at Abegail. She figured Walter might be more willing to cooperate if she threatened Abegail. Men liked to play the hero after all.

"Dr McHugh, I thank you for leading me to what I needed." Her voice was heavy with her accent and echoed off the walls. "I do believe we are after the same thing Dr Miller. Perhaps we can come to and understanding." Gabriela smiled at Walter. She was used to men giving in to her. If she could get him to help her she could get rid of him later. "Now, I think we shall go back down, turn off the machine and see about taking it with us." Gabriela gestured with the gun, pointing back the way the pair had just come from.

Abegail stopped dead as the woman stepped out. It took her a moment to process who this might be, she seemed to know Abegail. The voice, the accent....of course. Abegail frowned. She looked from Walter to Gabriela. "Same thing? I was under the impression that you wanted information on the sisters. Not some crazy device a docotr built to speak to ghosts."

Gabriela smiled, "Well Dr McHugh, I did want the information, in the hopes of locating this device but you led me right to it so much the better for me."

Walter and Abigail had escaped from the dark underbelly of the Danver's Insane Asylum only to find themselves trapped by a card carrying female Nazi spiritualist and one time love interest of Dr. Josef Mengele. Walter had known of this woman by reputation and of her involvement in the Nazi party. She had forsaken esoteric science in favor of great wealth and had devoted her life to the questionable spiritualist explorations of the SS.

As Walter and Abigail stood listening to the ultimatums being set by Gabriella the three scholars had no inkling of the horrors that were revealing themselves beneath the cold granite foundation of the asylum. The man whom Walter and the others had mistaken for Doctor Aldo Curry was indeed dead, but the spirits that utilized his body had been loosed and were now seeping from the dank pit and into the open spaces of the immense complex above. The source of the inmates control had been thwarted and the spirits which had been placed within their crazed minds were now free from their material bondage.

This 'second death' of sorts would be their last migration as they had finally been released from the limitations of the mortal shell, but while these spirits had immediately returned to their hauntings, the spirits contained within George Luster's lifeless corpse chose to seek revenge for the way they were treated and misused by the humans inhabiting the hospital. Their first choice for possible victims were the three scholars standing on the main floor, it made difference to them that these particular humans had no connection to the Asylum.

Walter, who was at his wits end as to how he was going to get Abigail and himself out of this latest life threatening situation, was almost relieved when he heard the moans and groans coming from the elevator shaft.

Abegail heard the noises behind her. She looked from the gun toting woman to the elevator. "Walter...Walter....what is that noise?" She grabbed his arm. The noises were loud, moaning and moving closer. Abegail frowned. This was not good, not good at all. She really just wanted to leave.

"Look, I donna know what you want and I donna right care....so ye can shove off and do what ye like. We are leavin'." Abegail moved to walk towards the door.

"Ah, I am afraid not Dr. McHugh. You see, I cannot take the device on my own and I will not be able to deal with whatever unfortunate is down there now alone. Gun or not, I am still a simple woman." At this Gabriela smiled at Walter. Gesturing with the gun towards the elevator, "Shall we all head down then?"

Abegail looked confused, her eyes moved between Walter and Gabriela.

Gabriela smiled, "You do not understand fully what you walked into Dr. McHugh do you? Did you not tell her about the spirits? Oh, the poor woman." She smiled at Walter again and shook her head.

Abegail looked to Walter, the noise of the groaning thing distracting her momentarily. "What is she talking about?"

Gabriela chuckled softly, "You shall see my dear doctor. You shall see what the device can really do." She gestured again to the elevator, "Down. Let us move. I want that device."

"You must be out of your skull lady." Walter spoke defiantly. "There is no way I'm going down to face whatever is lurking down there in the dark." Walter wasn't concerned for his own safety, his refusal to journey into a sure and horrifying death with the Nazi collaborator was more of an attempt to spare Abigail from what would assuredly be a harsh death. Walter's stubbornness was soon replaced with compliance when Gabriela cocked the hammer back and pointed the pistol directly at him. "Well I guess that puts a new slant on things." Walter said with a hint of sarcastic slyness in his speech.

Walter cast a look at Abigail as to say that they had no choice but to follow Gabriela down into the infernal pit. Walter and Abigail had agreed to leave the floor level of the asylum, allowing their enemy to escort them into that damned open-face elevator. As the rusted contraption traveled downward Walter had begone to formulate an escape plan in his head, the dark did much to secure a clean and successful escape, the instant the elevator made contact with the basement level of the asylum Walter went into action.

Gabriela had been standing behind Walter and Abigail as they traveled into the guts of the building, with the two scholars standing at the very front of the steel chamber. Gabriela had stepped forward as the elevator descended the last few feet, this enabled Walter to take a forceful step backward against the unsuspecting Nazi, which succeeded in knocking the weapon from Gabrila's hand. Walter took Abigail by the hand and lead her out of the cage and into darkness and uncertainty.

Abegail sighed slightly and moved to the elevator with Walter. It was clear he didn't want to go down there and the cocking of the gun made it apparent that they had no choice. "Crazy bitch..." Abegail muttered out quietly as they stepped into the metal contraption.

Abegail couldn't help feeling like she was a piece of meat being lowered into the lion's den. Her stomach knotted as the noises she had heard earlier became louder. She gripped Walter's arm, the reality of her fear causing her to shake slightly. "Walter, what is down there?" Her voice was shaky as the metal clanked and the elevator stopped in the dark basement.

No sooner had the elevator landed than Walter stepped back into Gabriela, her gun rattling as it fell into the darkness and then Abegail felt him grab her hand. She was stunned but moved with him. Abegail said nothing, the noise of the moaning and groaning around her was too loud, too close. Her eyes couldn't adjust so quickly to the darkness and she felt nervous as the pair moved. Her grip on Walter's hand tightened, she didn't want to be seperated, not down here, not now and not with whatever was with them.

Gabriela was smug as the two scholars moved into the elevator. Oh, she heard the noises from below her but as long as she gave whatever it was Dr McHugh, shot it and Dr Rivers could help her with the device. Yes a neat little plan and with these two afraid of her and the basement she had the upper hand.

Gabriela heard Abegail's comment and watched as the red headed woman gripped her companion's arm in fear. Breathing deeply she could almost smell the woman's fear and it was wonderful. Gabriela was going to get everything she wanted and this scared thing had brought her to it.

The woman was entirely unprepared when Walter stepped back into her with enough force to knock the gun into the darkness. Swearing in German, she looked around for it as the two scholars fled into the shadows.

"Oh, what a choice." Walter said to himself as he pulled Abigail along with him into the dark and dank underbelly of the Danver's asylum. It seemed that the deeper they traveled into this hellish environment the more unwise the decision to rush off seemed. Thinking that they had traveled far enough into the catacombs beneath the asylum Walter and Abigail slowed their pace from running at full tilt to rushed footsteps.

The sounds which had filled the atmosphere only minutes before gave way to utter stillness and Walter was left to question which was worse, the haunting sounds of ghosts or the eeriness of absolute silence. Walter and Abigail's brisk walk was halted by a thunderous clash and violent flashes of white, as Gabriela fired round after round into the darkness of the tunnels.

Her intention was to unsettle the two scholars and boy was it successful. With each shot from Gabriela's weapon Walter and Abigail reflexively turned their heads to cast a quick gaze into the darkness of the elaborate tunnel system behind them. "There must be a way out of here." Walter said to Abigial.

Abegail wasn't sure if Walter knew where he was leading them but right now, being together was better than alone in the dark. The place was damp and the further they went the more Abegail could feel it seeping into her. She wasn't sure though what was more unsettling the groans as they were in the elevator or the now deathly silence that filled the air as the two went deeper into the basement of the asylum.

"Walter, do you kno...." Her question was cut off as the first shot ripped through the air, breaking the eery silence. Abegail jumped. More shots buzzed and hummed in air, some striking walls and stone with pings of metal. Abegail couldn't help but wonder where they ricocheted to. She waited for the sting of bullet piercing flesh or a yell from Walter to indicate he had been hit. None came as they two kept moving into the maze of tunnels.

Behind them they could hear Gabriela swearing and talking in German. She was clearly angry, that much came through even though Abegail had no idea what the woman was saying. "Where is whatever was moaning?" Abegail wondered and a small part of her hoped, whatever it was ran into Gabriela before it found them.

Her eyes had adjusted now to the dark corridors. There was a bit of light to her left. "Look, there..." Abegail pointed and pulled Walter towards it. She wasn't sure what was there but it was better than stumbling in the dark while being shot at.

Gabriela had managed to find her gun and she followed the scholars into the dark. She was angry and while she couldn't see them fully, she could make out their shapes. Gabriela began shooting at the shadows. At some point she paused in pursuit. Daintily, almost as if she was doing the most mundane task she reloaded her gun with bullets from her purse. With a click she set off after them again. She didn't care if she killed the woman but she needed Walter's help to get the device out, besides he would know things about it and she could use it to her advantage.

The chase had developed into a question of which would occur first, Gabriela catching up to Walter and Abigail, or the spirits catching up to all of the humans. The tunnel system beneath the hospital was clearly far reaching, in fact the three humans had gone past the area which encompassed the hospital grounds by nearly a mile. The twists and turns which confused the way would ultimately lead them in full circle back under the small cottage which stood to the left of the asylum.

Walter and Abigail now sat exhausted at the end of the last tunnel, with no further passages to follow they assumed they would be caught by the screaming mad Nazi that had chased them all this time. Walter and Abigail were sitting on opposites sides of the small tunnel, when suddenly they realized in one simultaneous instant the door to their left. After casting a reactionary glance at each other they turned their attentions back to the door as they proceeded to pry it loose from the years of rusted inertia which had claimed it.

Opening it they were faced with a shallow chasm, but then they noticed the faint light which shone within the enclave and above their heads. Sticking his head into the crevice Walter looked up to find a series of bars protruding from the earth rising upward, it was a makeshift ladder. Climbing up the ladder they would eventually come up from the dirt floor of the cottage's small and confining basement.

Abegail thought it would never end, even the glimmer of light she had seen kept just out of their reached. If she wasn't so angry, Abegail might have cried. As it was the Irish woman was stubborn and once pissed off, was hard for her to be anything but pissed off.

The pair moved and finally it just stopped, the tunnels simply seemed to end. A string of Gaelic curses burst forth as Abegail sunk against the wall, breathing heavily. Abegail was about to say something to Walter when her eyes adjusted to the new area and a door almost seemed to appear beside them. She looked at Walter, confused and doubting her own eyes for a moment. The look on his face made it clear that he too saw the door.

Scrambling to their feet, the scholars worked on the door. Rust gave way and slowly the door opened for them. Abegail wiped both hands on her face, she was sweating with the exertion. The action left streaks of rust down her cheeks, giving her the appearance of having shed red tears. Walter looked ahead of them and began climbing a ladder. Not wasting any time, Abegail followed him.

She grunted as she pulled herself into the small and cramped basement. "Where are we?" Abegail hadn't come down with Walter the first time they were in the cottage, she had no idea that the cottage was just above them.

Gabriela was aware that something was pursuing her, just as she pursued the scholars. Why couldn't they just stop? Didn't they realize that this would be so much easier on them if they just did as she ordered. The woman's lip was curled into a sneer as she fired into the darkness again. There, just ahead she heard the squeal of metal. Gabriela smiled. She had them now.

Behind her, something was edging ever closer. Moans followed her and she did her best to ignore them. Gabriela had studied spirits most of her life, she wasn't about to be afraid of them now. It was only a matter of time before she had the device and she was controlling them anyway.

"Perhaps I will have them rip apart the girl....be interesting to study their behaviour on struggling victim." This thought, as if she was pondering which book to read next crossed through her head as she entered the end of the tunnel and approached the door.

"Tsk, tsk...sloppy Amercian." Gabriela chuckled as she passed through the open door. She turned and pulled it closed behind her. At least the reanimated body, full of spirits wouldn't be able to follow her now. She'd take the elevator back down eventually but right now the two escaping scholars were her goal.

Several hundred feet from the small cottage the charcoaled and fuming corpse of George Luster sat in the blackened steel of the execution chair deep beneath the foundation of Danver's asylum. All was silent now within the room, except for the sizzling, crackling sounds of the smoldering corpse.

The body was burnt to a crisp, the skin was cracked and constantly oozing forth what was once the mans very life blood. The fused eye lids of the corpse blinked wide revealing the glassy stare of the re-animated dead, this living corpse tore itself from the chair and then exited the basement.

__________________________________________

Walter and Abigail had attempted to hide themselves within the small cottage, although a difficult task considering the smallness of the structure, they would both find a suitable spot to settle into. Walter had crouched down behind the leather couch as Abigail squeezed herself into the shallow closet in the back room.

Their plan was to surprise Gabriela as she entered the main room and then surround her. Walter had told Abigail to come out of her hiding place and maneuver herself behind Gabriela, and as she did this he would disarm the Nazi.

Abegail did as Walter asked. She pressed herself into the back of the shallow closet and held her breath. It was warm in the small confined space. It didn't take long before Abegail was sweating. She licked her dry lips and wished the woman would just hurry up. Wiping a piece of her hair away from her face, Abegail wondered what she had done to deserve being stuck in a closet after being chased by a mad woman.

Gabriela climbed the ladder and found herself in the small cottage's basement. She ascending into the small living quarters and sighed dramatically. She had realized that the passageway would lead to a cottage and to the outside. Gabriela stomped her foot in annoyance. The duo were likely gone, making off across the yard of the asylum in search of help.

She paused mid-huff to look around. There were dirty footprints, not a lot of them but they didn't seem to leave the cottage. Gabriela moved into the living area and raised her gun. "Now, if you would please come out. There is not many places you can hid here and I am not above shooting every corner until I find you."

Abegail heard the woman's voice and she listened closely to the footsteps. When she was sure the woman had passed her tiny hiding space Abegail leapt into action. Abegail stepped out and seeing the German woman slid up behind her.

Gabriela heard something, it was behind her and she turned, gun raised to aim at whomever or whatever it was. She almost laughed when she saw the red headed woman standing there. "I would have thought you smarter than that Dr McHugh."

Abegail's fists clenched. Gun or no gun she wanted to deck this woman. Her teeth clenched. "I am smarter than you are. I didna just step inta a tiny room where I am out numbered."

Walter heard the conversation between Abigail and Gabriela and had also witnessed the Nazi turn to his colleague by looking under the couch as he lay on the floor. Taking this as his cue Walter slowly rose from behind the couch and then carefully stepped onto the cushions, quietly planting his left foot upon the floor he climbed over the piece of dusty furniture. Slowly creeping up to Gabriela he made his move to disarm her from behind. It was then that the front door of the cottage flung open violently, revealing the charred corpse of George Luster.

Walter and the two woman standing before him turned their heads toward the door in one united motion, they were sufficiently horrified by the site. The walking dead thing had in its clutches the helmet and small wooden case from the spirit communication device. Taking several steps beyond the threshold the corpse dropped the two items at its feet, ultimately falling to the floor itself. The head of the corpse popped open like a burnt coconut when it hit the hardwood floor.

The head cracked open as the spirits inhabiting the reanimated thing burst forth into the living room. In awestruck horror Walter and Abigail took several steps backward, leaving Gabriela to face the dark specters now infesting the small room. The malevolent spirits took Gabriela in their tight cold grip and began to tear at her mind, soul, and body. Even though she tried to kill Walter and his colleague the scholar could not help but feel pity for Gabriela. Walter could barely stand to watch the horrific sight transpiring before him, and after a few seconds he turned away as a single tear fell from his eye.

Abegail kept her eyes on Gabriela and not Walter as he emerged from behind the couch. She didn't want to give away his position or what he intended to do. Abegail kept looking at the woman, keeping her solely focused on her as Walter crept up slowly.

He never got a chance to spring into action as the door burst forth and a blackened thing shambled into the room. The three turned to look as the thing came into the cottage, holding the helmet and case.

Abegail, "What the bloody hell?" She backed away staring in morbid curiousity at this thing that appeared to at one time to have been human. Abegail realized what, no who she was looking at. "He..you fried him....he isn't supposed..." She kept backing up. The thing only took a few steps into the room before the articles in what was left of its hands clattered to the floor. Abegail gagged as the thing itself fell over, its head cracking open with the impact.

Walter joined her and the pair continued to back up. "What is going on?" Her voice was a whisper as Abegail stared in horror at Gabriela. Abegail could not look any longer. She turned her head and buried against Walter's shoulder trying to block out the images from her mind.

Gabriela stared at the charred corpse. She was horrified and intrigued all at the same time. It was dead but clearly something had take over its body. And the device, it sat in its hands, or at least parts of it did. When it all clattered to the floor, Gabriela made a move for the helmet and box. That is when the spirits came at her. She started to scream but it didn't take long as they took over her mind that the screams were cut off. Her eyes were wide but unseeing as they broke her apart from the inside.

The small cottage looked like a bloody abattoir by the time Walter and Abigail step outside. Neither of them could bare to look at the mess upon the floor, mercifully it was quick, as one could only hope such a thing would be. Averting their eyes they exited the cottage, taking with them the helmet and small wooden case.

"I'm tempted to bury these things in the woods somewhere, so that no one would ever find them. With Andrea's death and all, I feel that we should at least come out of this experience with something meaningful. This thing was her life's obsession, I think she would want it this way. I just don't want her to have died in vein."

These were the things Walter and Abigail discussed as they went back into the asylum and climbed into that hellish open-face elevator for the last time. After they had retrieved the galvanized plate Walter and Abigail made arrangements for Andrea's body to be taken back to town, and from there to her home town, where she would be buried several weeks later.

It was with a heavy heart that Walter and Abigail boarded the plane which would take them back to Connecticut and to their respective teaching jobs. Throughout the entire flight, which thankfully wasn't too long of a journey, Walter didn't speak another word about the events of the past week. In fact Walter would never again mention Andrea, or their adventure together.

Walter could never quite bring himself to showcase his discovery, the thing which was his own obsession for many many years would remain locked away in his basement gathering dust.

Abegail stayed with her face pressed into Walter's shoulder as Gabriela was torn apart by the spirits. Eventually things grew quiet and Abegail looked up. It was not a sight that the average person needed to see. She paled and held her hand to her throat willing the bile to remain in her body.

The pair, after picking up the pieces of the device, headed out of the cottage. Abegail couldn't look back. Walter wanted the pieces of the device and frankly he could have them. She wanted nothing to do with them and they were no good to her. Braving the basement for the last time the scholars found the plate and made the call for officials from the asylum's main office.

interviews were done, statements and pictures as authorities combed the area and attempted to figure out what had happened. It would take time but eventually Walter and Abegail were released, arrangements made for Andrea's body and the pair returned to Marshall College.

No matter how often they passed each other in the hall or sat near each other at faculty events, Abegail and Walter would never discuss the asylum, the spirits or Andrea and her death.

Abegail fell into her position at Marshall, filling her time with classes and delving into her research.

Walter himself had focused much of his attentions on his work in the field of Occult studies, but most of his actions revolved around his associations with various Secret societies and Magical Lodges. His interest in Ceremonial magic had also been peaked, largely as a result of what he had experience on his recent adventure.

Walter also had plans to embark on a personal spiritual journey of sorts, this would take him away from Marshall College for the better part of 1942.

As to what adventures might present themselves between the latter part of 1941-1943, it's anyones guess.

I left the possibility for another prequel open ;)

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Hee hee. Very fun adventuresque post. I am working at the moment but will post later today. :).

Abby isn't going to be overly enthused about being strapped in.

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Pulled all that stuff from my butt ;) Makes sense in a saturday serial kind of way. :)

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Did you leave it open like that for me to decide what is in there or just for me to sneak in a small post before you say what is in there?

Simply curious as to how I should set up my next post.

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Ill get right on it :)

Posting

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Not sure what you had in mind for what was in the wardrobe but Andrea opened it. :) So you can go ahead and fill in what she sees in your post.

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Yeah we can do that, or just kill her off :) Why dont we, in the next few posts each take turns setting up her death. Also feel free to lead the events and what happens in the story ;)

Will post after I post for "hell"

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Thinking that perhaps once we get to a place where it makes sense we can leave Andrea to her own thing rather than drag her along. What do you think? Let Walter be the driving force.

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Cool. Just having coffee and getting ready to post. Will read it again and then post mine.

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

i split the double post into 2 posts :)

Re: [OOC] In Pursuit of The Ouija Device

Sorry for the wait, and for the double post ;/
