When the King of Darkness defeats the Father of Greatness and casts Him from the World of Light, the Kingdom of Darkness is born...

Introduction

The angel still had its faith, but without the Father of Greatness residing over the World of Light, permeating and imbuing that faith with His divine presence, faith was little more than a symbol; remembrance of all that had been lost. So the angel ran from the hoard of imps that chased it; ran from beings that it once would have smote with the barest registering of conscious thought. Down an alley ghost-hued in moonlight the angel ran, vaulting up a low stone half-wall to leap over a fence of iron bars, landing atop and falling from a pile of loose barrel staves, not stopping even at the unexpected sensation of pain that lanced upward from its rolled ankle. Hobbling on, the angel spared a glance back as the imps reached the iron fence. Calling the Fifth Son - Fire - the angel set the staves ablaze, marveling that such a simple invocation nearly proved too much for its exhausted soul. That the Fifth Son still existed, could still answer the call, was enough to make the angel want to weep in gratitude, but it buried the emotion much as it did the sensation of pain from its ankle.

The blazing staves temporarily forced the hoard of imps to pause in their pursuit, and the angel limped onward, turning a corner and finding itself in the open courtyard of a joined workshop and smithy. The angel retreated into the workshop, latching the door closed behind it silently. A gap between leather window shade and wall allowed enough moonlight in to make out the rough dimensions of the room, but little more. Careful to make as little noise as possible, the angel limped farther into the workshop, hands feeling its way along a wall that opened into a staircase that no doubt led to the smith's living quarters. Finding a stairwell down to a storage room, the angel made its way below to hide among the shelving, sliding to the hard dirt floor with its back against the wall.

Struggling to catch its breath, the angel hurriedly loosened the fastenings of its constrictive hard leather cuirass, worn as both disguise and protection, before taking several deep, calming gulps of air. Banished from the Heavenly Gardens to run for its life on the mortal plane, the angel was experiencing for the first time human limitations such as fear, pain and exhaustion. Once one of the proudest warriors of the Father's Host, the angel now wrestled with the heretofore unknown indecision between fight and flight.

The option was decided for the angel some moments later, when heavy footfalls overhead announced the its pursuers. The stairwell threw strange dancing shadows against the far wall as torch-bearing imps scrambled down the steps. Their pale, monstrous faces, dotted with pitch black spines that protruded from dozens of points along their bald skulls, contorted with animal glee as they saw their prey. The angel called of the Fifth Son again as it leaped to its feet, its invocation creating a white-light flare that burst above the imps' heads, blinding all within a few paces. The angel tore past the first imps in the confusion, but had only scaled half the stairs before it was overwhelmed by shear numbers as spine-tipped limbs grasped at it from all sides, bearing the angel to the ground where it struggled in vain as its cuirass was torn from its body. Pinned supine, the angel watched as those imps not holding it captive cleared out of the way, as another figure descended the steps.

Whereas the imps were monstrously ugly, the nephila bore no outward sign of its damnation and was in fact a being of unearthly beauty and grace, as befitted a fallen angel. Wearing a fitted silk robe trimmed in gold wiring that matched its lustrous blonde hair, the female-formed nephila stood over the bound angel with a cold sneer that could not mar its strange beauty.

"Mercy," the angel begged. "Have mercy, for the Father's-" the angel cut off as it realized that there would be no mercy for the Father's sake, from the very beings that had killed Him. With nothing else to say, the angel closed its eyes and waited for the end, which was delivered by the nephila as it crouched at the Angel's side to plunge the dagger into its exposed chest. The nephila waited for the blankness to come over the angel's visage as it expired, before turning and leaving the body behind for the imps to devour.

Upstairs from the storage room, the nephila encountered the smith and his wife and son, who'd come to investigate the commotion and were now cowering from the imps that stood watch over them. "Welcome to the Kingdom of Darkness," the nephila purred as it left the family to the imps' gruesome ends.

It is the 546th Year of the Faith, and the evil entity known as the King of Darkness has overthrown its eternal enemy, the Father of Greatness, and has recast the World of Light in its corrupt image. Where once towns, cities and nations of various races lived and worked in relative peace and harmony, the Kingdom of Darkness is now spreading across the land. Whether army or individual, those heroes that stood up to the King of Darkness and its Dark Hoard were met with assured death to be followed by eternal punishment, while those that have accepted the Dark King as their new god have at least found some manner of peace in their abject slavery. Will you make the best of this living damnation, or will you struggle to free yourselves - and all others - from the Kingdom of Darkness?

Terms:

The World of Light - the realm created and watched over by the Father of Greatness, the World of Light comprises the ethereal plane known as the Heavenly Gardens, and the mortal plane, which is known as Verold. There have been many nations and peoples throughout the history of Verold, oftentimes at conflict with one another.

The Kingdom of Darkness - a realm that is the very antithesis of the World of Light - ruled by the King of Darkness, a wholly evil entity that seeks nothing but the corruption of the World of Light. The Kingdom of Darkness refers to this other realm, but also refers to the King's presence in the Heavenly Gardens and on the material plane as it rapidly conquers the nations of Verold.

Races of Verold:

Human - The most populous race on Verold, humans are beings of great versatility and ingenuity. There are so many different cities of humans on Verold that they can have quite distinguished physical and cultural differences between them, which has caused a great deal of conflict throughout their history. Despite their sprawling civilization the humans are a rather tribal and insular race, motivated to protect first family, then clan, then city, then nation - as shown by their famous aphorism: "My brother and I against my cousin; my cousin and I against the stranger."
[Racial Attribute: Alliance: Gain strength and defense per human ally in vicinity]
[Racial Skill: Critical Strike: Deal more damage and potentially stagger the foe]

Bogle - Also known as earthmen, bogles are a race of diminutive, humanoid creatures with skin tones ranging from pale green to dark brown, long pointed ears and oversized eyes. Bogles have a considerable affinity with the earth, especially prizing the acquisition of gold and rare gems. While they have quite an industrious nature and are skilled tradesman, the stereotype is of a greedy and crafty rogue. Bogles live in an underground city called Demaarkt, which is a complicated blend of a political plutocracy and social meritocracy, regulated almost exclusively by contract law.
[Racial Attribute: Night sight: See clearly in up to total darkness]
[Racial Skill: Convoke: Summon another bogle to your side for a short time]

Elfe - Elfes, or wood-folk, are a race in strong affinity with the World of Light, both in the natural world and with the heavenly beings. They can sometimes be as tall as humans but are very slender, with amazing grace and dexterity. Preferring the solitude of the forest or other tranquil natural settings, the long-lived elfes don't often meddle in human affairs except when their way of life is threatened, in which case diplomatic emissaries can be seen throughout the human kingdoms. Although capable warriors in their own right, it is the elfes' innate magical strength that truly makes them a force to be reckoned with.
[Racial Attribute: Heightened awareness: Natural intuition and keen senses raise perception]
[Racial Skill: Imbue Element: Objects can be imbued with one of the four elements for a short time]

Gygr - Also known as giants, the gygr are a powerful warrior race that have historically clashed with both human and elfe civilizations, although the last few centuries have seen a relative peace from these proud, savage people. Gygr range from 6 to 8 feet tall and can weigh several hundreds of pounds, with heavy muscles and a thick, armor-like hide. Nomadic and strongly individualistic, gygr do not socialize among themselves any more than they would with other races; in fact sometimes less, considering how often such meetings end with bloodshed. The gygr venerate glory and honor primarily with battle, with much of their culture and religion formed by ancestor worship.
[Racial Attribute: Bloodlust: Strength and defense are raised as you lose health.]
[Racial Skill: Frenzied Strike: Attack twice in one turn]

Other races: Please PM me with a short paragraph describing a race that you would like to see incorporated into the rp. No minions of darkness will be accepted as playable characters at this time, i.e. do not ask to create or play as an inherently evil race that would make most sense as an antagonist.

MISSION ONE: REFUGE FROM THE STORM

Along the Westwegh, a highway between kingdoms, rests the small village of Sorrell. Unless you are one of the few hundred men and women who call this village home you likely have no business in Sorrell beyond passing through, and might not even have stopped for the night were it not for the thunderstorm that began to rage earlier today. You have sought the refuge of the village's inn, a squat two-story building of stone and oak built to withstand the centuries and the elements. Your rooms are upstairs but tonight your beds call to you naught - these are no times for sleep. It has been six months since the death of the Father of Greatness, and the Kingdom of Darkness has spread across Verold to conquer city after city, enslaving all people. To the east of Sorrell the great kingdom of Armandy has recently fallen - perhaps you are one of the lucky few to have fled its capital city during its corruption. There have been seen imps and other lesser minions of darkness throughout the village and surrounding countryside, but luckily Sorrell is of too little importance to warrant a full invasion, although the fact that this could change at any time has kept these villagers utterly cowed.

Objective: Introduce your characters, gather information and survive the night.

Gwenonwyn Bheara

Along with her naturally heightened perception and awareness as an elfe, Gwenonwyn Bheara had spent her entire life learning to better understand peoples' motives and reasoning as she trained to become a diplomat, which meant that when she was eager for information - as she was tonight - it was often a simple matter of observing others in conversation and in action. Still, she was exhausted from her flight west after the fall of Armandy, and she was probably not on her best form. In fact, all she really wanted was sleep - hopefully deep and dreamless - but despite her mental and physical fatigue the elfen woman forced herself to remain at her seat, alone at her small table, and listen to the conversations happening all around her in this small village tavern, hoping for anything that might be useful. For the last six months, since the Dark King's sudden and frightful ascension after slaying the Father of Greatness, all Gwen had been able to do was run, run ahead of the spreading Kingdom of Darkness as its horde took over Verold. Tired of running, Gwen sought desperately for any information that might be of use, however small.

On the small table sat her simple bow, unstrung to protect the string during the raging thunderstorm outside, as well as her short sword in its mismatched, too-loose leather scabbard. Despite not being proficient in the use of either (the casting of elemental spells being her only real combat skill), it comforted the young elfe to know that she had been able to acquire some protection as she and many others fled across the landscape. Too bad that the short sword had fallen into her possession only at the death of a human named Vance, a young soldier who'd helped her and others escape the fall of Armandy at the cost of his own life. She ran a slim finger along the well-worn leather handle and heavy iron pommel, glad of the memory of the brave man despite the heavy sadness that came with that remembrance.

"Another, miss?" came a voice that distracted Gwen from her thoughts. "Oh, please. Thank you," she replied to the server collecting her empty mug, as she reached into her small travel bag for her dwindling coin purse. She gave the man another few coins, as despite earning a meal with her rented room, drinks were extra. When the man returned a moment later with another wooden mug of currant ale, Gwen let the ruby red brew sit untouched on the table as the lacy pink head slowly diminished. Her thoughts turned again to dark matters as she watched the delicate foam slowly but surely give way to the blood red ale beneath it until it was all but gone. Sighing, the elfe tried to banish the dark thoughts that accompanied the image by closing her eyes as she sipped from the mug.

Isa Rune
Isa walked along the road. "Dammit..." She muttered. It was pouring, just as it has been for several minutes now. She saw the lights of some village up ahead, but it was taking longer then expected to get there. "They couldn't have built it more over here, could they?

Isa burst into the tavern, soaking wet. Pissed, she glanced around the room, seeing it full. "Dammit... Course it is." She muttered to herself. She glared at the innkeeper, who pointed at an elfe sitting by herself. Isa grunted in annoyance, but at least it was another girl. Isa approached her. "Hey, do you mind?" Isa said to her, clearly evident that she really didn't want to so much as had to.

Gwenonwyn Bheara

The elfe looked up from her silent reverie at the diminutive human girl's approach. "Oh. No, please," she replied as she sat up straighter in her chair and gestured to the seat across from her. Gwen wasn't outgoing by nature but times like these seemed to make one alternately eager for company and desperate for solitude. Right now she was the former - anything to help banish the dark thoughts welling up in her after the fall of Armandy and her flight therefrom. As the young woman took the seat, Gwen pulled her unstrung bow and sheathed sword to the ground beside her, and pulled her own drink a little closer to herself instead of taking up the entirety of the small table like a flag placed on newfound land.

"I am Gwenonwyn Bheara," she said, raising the wooden mug in a sort of greeting. If the human was familiar with elfe culture she might have heard of the family name - it was a sizeable offshoot of the Bheara'duranan bloodline, a legacy as ancient as any in Verold. The full 'duranan name didn't have a succinct translation into the common tongue, but Bheara essentially meant Moonshine, a name she sometimes went by. "You may call me Gwen if you wish."

After that the elfe let the woman alone for a few minutes, in case she wanted to order food or drink, or maybe just solitude while she dried off from her travels. After a few moments, though, the elfe felt ready to speak. "Where do you travel from?" she asked, hoping it did not seem too inquisitive. Sorrel really only had one high road - the Westwegh - traveling through it, but with its many offshoots it was possible the woman came from virtually any direction. Most of the inn was stuffed with refugees from the recently fallen Armandy to the east, like Gwen herself, but the elfe hoped that this girl was from anywhere else, so that they could trade information. "I come from Armandy. I hope you don't plan on traveling east."

Edin Vanoke

The town looked miserable, the sky was grey, Edin's mood was unusually low-which actually wasn't saying very much.
He had been walking for quite the while now, the entire time with the thoughts of stealing someone's horse just to make the trip quicker, but the boy really hadn't the slightest clue where exactly he was trying to go.
"Anywhere!" His father had shouted, shoving his son out the door, "Anywhere away from here! Just go!" The words from Evan may have been a warning, or they may have been the final attempt to get the boy out of his house. His parents couldn't hide him forever.
He was an enemy, after all. Just like Diesna, his grandmother who had been killed. But what had Edin done that deserved him death? Nothing in recent years, for he had long since given up on his childish thoughts and actions. Yet when it was found that Edin just so happened to be the younger boy who had protested with the traitor Diesna, well... he too was wanted dead.

Now he was walking in the rain, his tired blue eyes not even registering what was in front of him. He knew that he hadn't been away from home for too long, but the entire journey had been on foot and sleep had been the least of his worries until now, and even then the concern was faint. He was tried, yes, but he knew that a peaceful dream wouldn't come to him. Still, a rest for his aching feet would do him some good.

"An inn..." Edin said to himself, glancing over at the faded sign on the building to his right. His stomach made a growling sound and the soles of his feet seemed to hurt even more, as if in a reminder that he needed food and rest. "One night," The boy decided, sluggishly walking towards the door, "One night and then I'll-" Edin was about to say 'and then I'll leave' but the sudden rise of sound in the formerly faint voices when he opened the door caused his sentence to drop dead.

He walked to the front desk, carefully stepping around people as he went, and asked the innkeeper if there were any rooms available. The keeper nodded, told him to wait a few minutes for him to get the room ready, and suggested sitting at one of the few tables that wasn't already full.
With a quiet thanks, Edin scanned the room for somewhere to sit. There were three places in total, but two of the three occupants of the tables didn't look quite as friendly as the third, which had two women sitting at it. He walked over to the women, pulled out a chair, and slumped down without asking if they minded his sudden appearance. He would only be seated with them for a few minutes, anyway. Once the innkeeper came back and he payed-

Oh. That's right, he had to pay. Edin glanced at the two women, a fiery-red haired girl and an elfe, and gave them his best attempt at a smile,
"Either of you happen to have money that will pay for my room, do you?" The sentence wasn't exactly charming, Edin was aware, but he hoped that luck and kindness was on his side.

Isa Rune
Isa sat down grumpily. "Whatever." She ordered herself some ale. Brott, one of her tutor's, kept insisting before that she should wait until she was older before drinking alcohol, but that was long ago, and she needed some fire in her belly. "I'm Isa Rune." If Isa had known what was so special about the person she was sitting with, she paid it no mind."I came from the north, way up there. The place I'm from is really isolated, so I didn't even know about this whole 'Kingdom Of Darkness' bull until my father's castle got attacked. Glances around and smiles. "I've been moving down the line the Kingdom Of Darkness has been making for a while now, I'm smart enough to stay out of their turf. I've been looking for some permanent work, you wouldn't happen to-" Isa was then suddenly interrupted by a man asking for money. She rounded on him, anger in her eyes. "You think that in this day and age, someone is going to pay for your rent? Bug off." She sat down, trying to calm down and taking a drink of ale.

Gwenonwyn Bheara

The elfe ambassador-in-training watched as Isa Rune dismissed the plaintive human male with a brusque remark, and Gwen felt an odd sense of shock. Of course she knew that she was wealthier than most - or rather, her family was - and that not everyone could afford to help out someone in need even if they were willing to, but, still... with the Father of Greatness having been killed, with His angels being chased out of the heavenly gardens to be hunted down on Verold... with the Kingdom of Darkness taking over the entire World of Light... surely everyone should try to band together as much as possible? The elfe was smart enough to know that this was a naive thought, but it burned within her nonetheless.

"I, I think I have some money," she admitted as she began to look through her travel bag. "This is Isa Rune, a traveler from up north," she introduced. "My name is Gwenonwyn Bheara," she added as she continued to hunt for the increasingly unlikely money. "You may call me Gwen if you wish. Oh, damn-" she muttered as she found the last remnants of her coin would not be enough to pay for the young man's room. Surely she could talk to the innkeeper and ask him to make an exception? No, of course not - the man had already turned someone away earlier tonight for being unable to pay. Gwen pursed her lips in thought. "Nevermind, sorry. I haven't seen my bed yet but I'm sure there's enough space for you. On the floor, I mean. At least it will be warm and dry?"

Those who knew Gwenonwyn, or those who'd met her during her travels on her Votive, would know that the elfe girl was one of those sorts whose eagerness to please was matched only by her general inability to do so. No doubt even if the man wanted to take her up on her offer of a hardwood 'bed,' surely they both knew that the innkeeper wouldn't allow it. If he found out, that was. Gwenonwyn didn't like the idea of lying to the man or helping someone steal his services, but in times like these everyone had to pull together.

"Whence comest thou?" she asked, forgetting that the translation into the common tongue from her elfen language was a particularly archaic one, not actually used across Verold for some centuries now. The problems of an elfen education - it didn't exactly keep up with the times. "I mean where did you come from?" She guessed not Armandy - she and many fortunate others had just gotten out in the nick of time. If this lad was just arriving in Sorrel now it was unlikely that he too had been in the now-fallen city to the east. Maybe he had news. Actually, maybe Isa Rune had news too - she'd forgotten to follow up with the young human woman.

"You say the castle was attacked. Has the north fallen to the Dark King as well?" If so, their options of travel were limited. With the creator and god of this world, the Father of Greatness, slain by his eternal enemy, the King of Darkness, the World of Light was being engulfed by its evil horde without even the slightest possible resistance. They could travel west, or south, hoping to outrun the Dark King's minions as city after city is conquered - but it was obviously just a matter of time until all of Verold was under the reign of the World of Light's new god. Sometimes Gwen wondered what was the point of running at all.

Edin Vanoke

"You think that in this day and age, someone is going to pay for your rent? Bug off." The red haired woman snapped before taking a drink. Edin glanced at her with a small bit of surprise. With looks such as hers, one would think she'd have a better attitude. But no, instead the woman was telling him to bug off. Huh, whatever that meant.
"Actually I think I'll stay here for a little while longer. Might as well get some rest in before I'm kicked out, eh?" He said, a slight smirk on his face as he leaned back in his seat.
The elfe lady then began to offer money, introduced the red haired woman as Isa Rune and herself as Gwenonwyn, then realized the she infact didn't have any money at all.
Edin was about to get up and leave, since there was no use talking to the ladies anymore, when Gwenonwyn offered if he'd like to sleep in her room, on the floor.
"How kind." He said, shooting a glance at Isa, "Beggars can't be choosers, I suppose. And if you really don't mind sharing, then I have a foolproof plan." he assured, his mind thinking of ways he would be allowed to sleep past dawn without being figured out.
Sleeping on the floor didn't concern him in the least, it was Gwen who made Edin a tiny bit conscious. What if news had spread that a Vanoke rebel boy was wanted? He couldn't die now, not after only seventeen pathetic years of life.
At least an entire army wasn't after him. If anything, his case was more of a Oh, there's that one guy who might be a possible threat someday because he showed signs before. We better chop off his head, hm? case.

Gwen said something to Edin that the boy didn't completely understand right away. Not knowing her words, he gave her a dumbfounded look and she corrected herself, "Where did you come from?"
Edin had to think about that for a few seconds. Little sleep led to slow brain. Slow brain meant delayed responses.
The floor really was sounding like a nice spot to sleep.
"A good few days of foot travel North. Not too far, mind you. Horses would have made the treck much faster but I, ah, wasn't given the chance to take one in time." He explained, waving his hand dismissively. Unfortunately Edin wasn't as good as a horse-thief as he was a pickpocket.

Gwen continued to talking to Isa and Edin caught the mention of 'North' and 'Dark King'
"The savages were visiting my little village before I left, if that helps. He offered lazily, resting his head on his hand, "Same direction, different places though."

As the three of you settle into conversation - sharing information about your respective flights from the spreading dark horde - the tavern's common room soon begins to bustle with a sudden commotion as a few new men enter from outside. Water streaming from their travel cloaks, hair plastered along their skulls from the rain, the three men stomp into the room.

"We got him!" one man declares to the common room. Those like you, who are traveling through Sorrel on your way elsewhere, don't have any clue as to the man's meaning, but the rest of the room, villagers and farmers from the outlying area, burst into sudden applause.

"Where is he?"

"What are we waiting for - string him up!"

The newcomers step further into the inn, approaching the tables as the rest of the villagers surround them, asking a dozen questions all together that become unintelligible to your ears in the commotion. Those patrons who, like you, are just here for the night, seem to have their own worries and aren't interested in anyone else's troubles - but the three of you perhaps feel differently. Whether it is the small ember of hope and resistance still burning in Edin despite his attempts to bury it and survive; or Gwenonwyn's natural tendency to comfort all whom she encounters; or even Isa simply looking for entertainment as she travels alone - the three of you might wish to listen in on the conversation, in which case you hear further snippets of the men's words.

"...angel..."

"...execute...?"

"...thunderstorm..."

"...tomorrow..."

It may become obvious to the more perceptive of you that the man they captured is in their minds an angel - and that they plan to execute him tomorrow after the storm, no doubt as a token of submission to the approaching dark horde. Whatever your feelings are about this being right or wrong, it is a delicate situation. Not only are these men fearful for their families, but it is known that the Kingdom of Darkness spawns creatures called
SHADES which may be anywhere, able to report any sign of resistance and have the dark horde descend upon the village to destroy them all.

If you attempt to stop them you may be condemning the entire village to death and eternal punishment, but if you sit complacently you may lose your first chance to help fight this war. Proceed carefully.

Isa Rune
Isa kept drinking her ale quietly, listening to the two speak, before her home was brought up. "Nay, it was attack by a rival clan. I haven't heard of the Dark Kingdom since around a quarter of the way down. Probably don't think there's enough up there to worry about yet." She took another chug of ale and downed the rest before three men rushed in, saying stuff about finding someone. Isa, a mix of intrigued and annoyed at the commotion, listened in. Her grin widened. An angel, huh? That seems interesting, and expensive. She glanced around the table. "Well, that's interesting, now ain't it?" She absently set her hand on her sword handle, hoping someone did something. She was sure that Gwen would pull something, and she seemed nice enough to back up. Besides, much more fun to fight with the smaller side, more targets.

When he rose from his chair Adalwolf stood a foot taller than everyone else, with wide shoulders that made him seem even larger. Along with his size he had tough skin like leather armor, and facial features that were too blunt to be human -marking him as a gygr, or the race of giants. Gygr populations were small in this part of Verold, but were known to be great travelers, preferring solitude except for times of mating when they returned to their homeland. Adalwolf felt in his bones -and in his loins- that the time was approaching, but the Kingdom of Darkness had thrown everything in Verold out of balance. Dishonoring the whole world -that was the Dark King's crime- and to a gygr warrior like Adalwolf, any dishonor had to be met with a duel, and he wanted to be the one to duel the Dark King. "You say you will kill angel?" he grunted, with a voice like a rockfall. "I say you will not." The giant hefted his totem, a two-handed iron rod that in his hands could shatter even gygr bones, let alone human bones.

"Who would duel Adalwolf, son of Adalwin?" he challenged. His bare chest was criss-crossed with many scars, records of his many duels.

Edin Vanoke

Edin had been listening to the two women talk when a couple of men burst into the room.
"We got him," He heard one say.
"Where is he?" Another demanded.
Edin's eyes studied the men as the went around asking questions. One of them walked past the table and glanced over at the small group of three, but his attention was quickly turned away when the other men seemed to have grabbed a hold of somebody. Through the crowd, Edin could barely hear or see anything that was going on. He heard mentions of angels and executions, but...
"Well, that's interesting, now ain't it?" Isa said, not sounding very interested in the commotion.
Edin nodded absently, relaxing in his chair. The men weren't interested in what the boy was doing, obviously, but at the small mention of finding a supposed angel...
Stay seated. A tiny voice in his head advised, Don't direct attention towards yourself, this isn't your business. But angels were good. One being executed, well, that wasn't.

Edin rose from his chair the same time someone else did, which wouldn't have got his attention if the man hadn't been so tall. He was a gygr, the boy noticed. Edin had only seen a few of them in his short lifetime, but he definitely knew one when he saw one.
He also didn't appear very happy.
"You say you will kill angel? I say you will not." The gygr grunted, lifting his totem, "Who would duel Adalwolf, son of Adalwin?" The gygr challenged, looking as if he were ready to burn the inn down as well as beat a few people up.

Edin coughed and sat back down, keeping his eyes fixed on the table.
"I believe mister Adalwolf has this handled." He muttered, all thoughts of doing something to defend the angel vanishing.
