Fears
Poverty || Daniel has grown up in abundance, and has become accustomed to a certain standard of living. Should he ever be cast down into a much lower financial bracket, the young man's irreverence would probably find him not in the good graces of any employer. Thus, he fears anything that may lose him his bank account.
Deep Water || Daniel can't swim, simply put. He had a near drowning incident as a child and now cringes at the thought of water deeper than four feet.
Isolation || Daniel is a snob, but a snob who hates to be alone. He tends to latch onto two or three people to whom he becomes fiercely loyal, and doesn't care at all about the rest of the world.
Secrets
Emotional Wreck || Two years ago Daniel's closest friend at the Academy, closest friend in general, died while driving under the influence. Given how attached he gets to people, it is no wonder that this destroyed Daniel. He would never tell anyone, but the reason that was the only summer he didn't stay for was because he refused to leave his room for two months after it happened.
Home || Given he's a bit of a mama's boy, it's strange that Daniel is a Yearly. This is because his father does not like him very much, as Daniel so strongly resembles his own father, appearance and attitude wise, and Daniel's grandfather kicked his father out when he was fifteen.

{ Charismatic, Shallow, Loyal, Sarcastic, Irreverent }
Whether or not his father liked him, Daniel's father at least taught the boy how to survive in the corporate world. For one thing, the young man is such that he can speak his way through nearly anything. He is clever enough to think well on his feet, and seems to have a sort of insight into the desires of others based upon their facial expression. Once you know what a person wants, you can control them, and Daniel knows this. When he wants to be, he is incredibly charming, all confidence and grace, and more than one person has been fooled by this aspect of him. Many people at this school don't like him very much, but were they to meet him for the first time today, he could easily change their tune at will. Even those who dislike him must occasionally concede to his velvet-coated logic.
Of course, there is a reason many people here do not like Daniel: he's a bit of an asshole. The young man has high standards, and if someone does not meet them he hardly deigns to recognize their existence, instead playing the role of a lofty prince. Needless to say, this has irritated more than a few people, and rightly so. Uncaring about the feelings of most unless it benefits him, he will often make little snide remarks about other people, and then give them this blank look, almost challenging them to shoot back, when they get angry. His tendency to remain stoic only makes it worse, feeding his ego of others being too volatile and uncivilized. He doesn't go out of his way to make others feel like shit, simply doing it in his day to day routine with his judgmental glances and little dismissals. If one fits his standards, however, he is far more polite and willing to engage in conversation. He does have some friends, after all, and to those few close friends he is loyal to a fault. He can allow himself to be torn apart inside if he has already become attached to a person, and do nothing to defend himself. It's rather tragic, the way that such a proud young man would easily submit to torture if he'd already given his loyalty. When he becomes close to someone, it is a heart and soul loyalty- Daniel doesn't do things halfway. He is a valuable friend to have, and once a friend warms up significantly.
His sarcasm will usually remain regardless of relationship to him, though it might shift towards others in a mutual sort of joke. Daniel is, as may have been gathered by now, an excellent speaker, but also often a very sharp one. He is critical of those around him, and doesn't hide it with his various remarks about other people. He does not try to hide this aspect of him by muttering it under his breath, but is quite happy to be open about his opinions, so long as doing so doesn't ruin any plans he may have. He's a rather irreverent person, doing as he wishes without regards to how it may affect others, unless they are his friends. His life is weighed in how it benefits and harms him, with little else influencing the scales.

Daniel's grandfather may have struggled to start a small business, and his mother to grow the business into the expansive corporation it is today, but all Daniel has ever had to do is sit back and enjoy the spoils of the work of those who came before him. He may not be old money, but Daniel is raised and wealth and this shows in his childhood. Rather than attending a normal elementary school, Daniel was privately tutored for the first many years of his life. Beloved by his mother, who controlled the company and the family, he received anything he wished for, so long as he was her "sweet boy." This means that Daniel learned very early on how to act charming and sweet, even when he was feeling very angry, in order to turn a situation his way. His emotions rarely escape him, and this has benefited the young man. Raised being told how special he was, and kept away from less affluent families because his mom wanted him to be just like the little princes and princesses of other, older families, he developed a bit of a shallow world view. His father only praised him if he was very very good, and so he learned to do the same to others, accepting his mother's doting as a mother thing by the time he was in third grade. At this point, Daniel was sent to Laurel Academy in America, having been raised with an English-Speaking tutor to prepare him. Here, he made friends with like-minded people, but definitely drove away others with the childish mimicking of what he had heard his parents say. He made one very good friend in particular, Samuel Kim, with whom he could speak his native korean, and who, while far more relaxed and caring than Daniel, met his standards.
Towards the end of their freshman year, Sam went home early for his grandfather's funeral, and while at home went out for a drive while heavily intoxicated. His death reached Daniel and destroyed him. Daniel had spent every summer at Laurel starting in fifth grade, but that one was sent home and refused to leave his room for two months, the emotional toll was so great. After that, he became even more sarcastic than he already had been, more critical of people. And now he is a rising senior, nearing the time where he will leave the place that has been almost his entire world for years now. If the boy does not change soon, he will likely be in for a very large shock when he goes to university, likely a different one than his friends. He will be alone, if only for a few weeks before making friends, and even that little of a time might be a problem for the boy.
