Introduction
It is 20119, ninety years after the Halsey Comet slammed into the earth, turning the once diverse landscape of the United States into one massive scorched plane. The dust from the crash filled the air for a couple of decades, and has since then clouded the sky, blocking out the sun and creating a permanent storm-filled night.
The wealthy few of the USA had been hit hard, but through financial means, the capitals of most of the States were rebuilt into neon-lit cities. These wealthy neon cities are filled with America's elite, and those who aren't wealthy enough to pay for a place inside them either died off or live in poverty-stricken shantytowns on the outskirts of the Cities.
All was well for those inside the Cities, until 20117, when a vast wave of frantic electronic calls for help erupted from the City nearest to the Halsey Crater, New Helena. The surrounding Cities were disturbed and terrified by rushed reports of pale, transparent 'monsters' raiding the City and massacring its inhabitants. Surveillance and personal device footage depicted horrifying scenes of lean, white scaly humanoid figures with long curling red tongues, ripping apart fleeing humans, and large terrifying large skeletal spiders, with transparent skin and the torsos of human females, silently dropping down from roofs to land noiselessly behind anyone unlucky enough to be in its line of sight. Limited experimentation on the few dead or captured creatures revealed that they are of the same species, with the tongued creature being the 'male', and the arachnid-esque creature resembling the 'female' of the species. They were named, respectively, Wytes and Exos.
Wytes:
Exos:
In a development that shocked the world, it was revealed that these monsters were none other than the unfortunate humans who were infected by the unstable radiation of Comet Halsey. These beings, known to all as "The Muted" (because of their noiselessness and apparent inability to communicate in anything other than unsettling clicking noises), now live in the wreckage of what used to be their human towns and cities, and inside the colossal, hollowed-out remains of the Halsey Comet itself. The name "Mute" is also a play on words, as it also refers to how they are mutated.
Reports of these pale white monsters invading New Helena and killing its inhabitants filled the remaining Cities with fear, and thus the Lonewatch Program was installed as a response.
Massive towers were constructed with the sole purpose of monitoring the desolate landscape that surrounds each of the 50 Cities. Each City has six Towers on all sides of it in a hexagonal formation, and each Tower is manned with a single long-ranged sleek cannon pointed outwards at the surrounding wasteland. These cannons are loaded with explosive charges powerful enough to level anything living within a two-mile radius of the center of impact. Because no one dares to live out in the Desolation, these cannons are of no risk to anyone living in or nearby the Cities. These snipers cannons are the sole line of defense against the Muted, and have worked perfectly thus far, as any approaching raids of Muted are quickly eliminated with a single well-aimed shot fired into their midst. Rarely is a second shot needed, and the threat is destroyed several miles before it can ever reach the City.
Each Tower itself is run by only two people, which used to be a source of complaint from the general public living inside the Cities. The public was worried that only two people in each Tower was not enough to ensure the safety of the Cities, but so far, all their worries have been unfounded. The Lonewatchers have a spotless history of handling Muted problems with diligence and ease, and have not let lack of sleep, boredom, or personal interests get in the way of serving their respective City.

Dearest NW T-SE Lonewatcher [Akio Tokiro],
The Governor of the sparkling City of New [Washington] applauds and salutes you for your vigilant service in maintaining [NW T-SE] diligently and effectively. You are the savior of our country, and every citizen in the undefeatable United Cities of America owes you an unfillable debt of gratitude.
A message from New [Washington].

Akio Tokiro, it has come to the attention of the Home Recruitment Office of New Washington that your previous partner, Allen Jackson, is no longer able to perform his duties as a Lonewatcher due to an unfortunate cooking incident. As he has now been retired in the Providence St. Peters Hospital for over a week, and conditions do not appear to be stabilizing, we have taken the opportunity of selecting one of our highest ranking Lonewatch initiates to take his place as your fellow Lonewatcher.
Please be present at T-SEβs Base level to meet your new partner at 1800 hours. Complimentary doughnuts will be provided in celebration.
Happy Watching,
Governor Gregory Henderson
Communications Office of New Washington

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 1 authors
Setting
0.00 INK
Akio Tokiro hastily shrugged into his LW jacket, feeling the familiar hug of the sleeves as he ran a comb through his red hair. Staring at himself in the mirror, he wondered why it was even necessary to have two partners sharing the same Tower at all. One Lonewatcher could easily manage the cannon, and a heat signature alert was easy to rig up. He suspected that it had more to do with the psychology of the employee than the actual job itself.
He checked his watch again. Five minutes until he met his new co-worker. Akio hoped that he, whoever he was, was laid-back and chill. Maybe heβll be a transfer from New Sacramento?
Californians hadnβt lost their βdude-broβ mentality even after the global catastrophe. He blinked seven times, activating his digital contact lenses, which immediately colored, giving his blue irises a sexy red hue. Red eyes were all the rage these days. Made you look wild.
He stepped out of his room and strolled towards the elevator.
The setting changes from Living Quarters 01 (Akio's Room) to Base Level Conference Room
Akio stepped out of the elevator doors, slipping into the conference room even before the doors had completely finished sliding open. He quickly took up a more-or-less formal position by the elevator. He checked his watch. Two minutes. Straightening, he pulled a large yellow lever that . A loud warbling sounded across the hangar as the massive hangar bay doors began to slide open, letting in the cold dry Desolation air, and providing Akio with a view of the rugged cracked black plane that had become the outside world to him. Crossing his arms behind his back and staring out at the lifeless stark beauty of the countryside, Akio waited for the low heavy electronic hum that would announce the arrival of the bulky white shuttle, and his new partner.
