Personality:
Unlike her sister, Adeline never felt the need to break out of that trust fund baby mold. She comes from wealth and realized that at an early age, and isn't afraid to embrace, and sometimes even flaunt it. She's that girl who you can tell, only by one minimal conversation with her, that she's never had to work a day in her life, is oblivious to many "real world" problems, and probably will never work half as hard as other people work in a year, in her entire lifetime. She has daddy funding her credit card with a seemingly unlimited pile of money at the other end, and never hesitates to splurge on a new pair of Chanel boots that she just has to have. If her siblings weren't ambitious or at least grounded in their own right, maybe it would be harder to blame her for that, because it could just be blamed on her upbringing. You could brush off her selfish, materialistic ways with her just being raised poorly, and her parents allowing her to believe that money and "things" were the most important things in the world. Charlotte isn't like that though, which definitely alienates Adeline as the "brat" of the family. Luckily for her, her innocent brattiness is often preferred to Charlotte's actual rebellious ways, so it's just easier for her to get away with it, despite being seventeen, and at an age where a lot of the shit she pulls normally shouldn't fly. Although she is obsessed with having the newest and nicest everything, shopping has become more than just getting new things for Adeline. It's therapeutic for her, a way to distract herself from any problems or stress going on in her life. Though it's helping in the short term, it's apparent that her reckless spending habits keep her distanced from the real world. It might not be something that is apparent to those in her inner circle who are very similar to her financially, but to an average Joe, it would be very clear that Adeline is fairly delusional. Maybe everyone who lives a life of such privilege is, to some extent, but when she has a fit over not being able to take some international vacation or buy a ridiculously expensive new dress, she actually thinks it's as much of an injustice as someone being deprived of their basic human rights.

She can be shallow, often judging people based on their appearance and the little information that she's heard about them through gossip. While she probably would talk about them behind their back, she wouldn't normally bully or taunt anyone to their face. She claims that it's okay to be a bitch, but not to be mean, and when it comes to gossip, she's more of a follower than the mastermind behind it. Although she doesn't mind contributing to the rumors circulating about other people, she does become very emotional when ones start spreading about her. She's sensitive to criticism and is usually the girl who ends up hysterically crying about a problems from months ago after a night of drinking. Her biggest insecurity is her weight. She has been diagnosed with an eating disorder when she was thirteen, and although she recognizes that she's statistically underweight, it doesn't change the way that she feels about her body. This is one more reason for why she tends to get away with her behavior in her family. She was always seen as the weak one, in a sense... the one who needed that extra attention, who needed to be "handled with care" and looked after just a bit more than the others. Claiming that her parents developed a soft spot for her that they didn't give to the other children probably isn't accurate, but it's worth noting that both of her parents realized early on that Adeline was sensitive, and therefore, they did their best to offer her a little bit more wiggle room than the others.

Despite the flaws, Adeline is loyal to her friends. She's affectionate, reliable and warm, but her impulsive and absentmindedness can sometimes get the best of her. When she's in a moment of gossiping and isn't thinking thoroughly, she's known to accidentally air her friend's secrets to other people, without even realizing that there's anything wrong with that. In almost every area of her life, it's clear that Adeline is impulsive. Whether it's buying thousands of dollars worth of clothes that she has no intention of ever wearing, or drinking herself into a blackout state, it's hard for her to control herself when she's in the mood to indulge in something. She can be reckless and make stupid choices, but her friends can all agree that she's always a fun person to have around. She's spontaneous, bold and energetic, always being up for a night out or an adventure.

Likes:
Autumn → Fall in New York offers the perfect weather, and it's one of the biggest thing she misses about being in California for most of the year. They get some season change, but not as much as the north east offered.
Travelling → She isn't the biggest fan of flying but loves being in new and different places, especially if it's tropical or makes for a good Instagram picture.
Anything new → This is relevant to material things, because she isn't a fan of new and change in any other sense. She loves getting gifts, buying things for herself, and just generally relishing in something new and fresh.
Alcohol → Being underage isn't much of a hassle when you have connections, a family name, and lots of money.

Dislikes:
Driving → She tried taking her road test two times over the summer, and failed both times. She'll readily admit that she's a horrible driver and at this point, has no plans on taking the test again.
Needles → She's that person who's still going to cry when they're getting their flu shot at forty years old.
Soda → She'll drink it in a mixed drink, but never on its own.
Fish → She's a very picky eater in general, but there are certain things like fish, that she has always just refused to try. She doesn't even know if she likes it or not, she's just too scared to try it.

History:
The head of the Arnault clan is Bernard Arnault, age 67, who is a French business magnate, investor and art collector. He has been the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH since 1989. From 1973 to 1990, Bernard was in a marriage that produced four children. Following his divorce from this wife, he spent some years dating and returning his focus to his business. In 1997, he met Jacqueline McEnroe, a young artist who was living in New York City at the time. The two began dating, and wed a year later, and a few years after that, they conceived twin girls. Charlotte was the first born, being two minutes older than her fraternal twin sister, Adeline. A year later, the couple the couple divorced. Bernard's work often left him traveling out of the country, and Jacqueline was young, with a career in music that was just taking off. She didn't want to be at home raising two babies any more than he did. When she was offered a seat in the Chicago Symphony, a position that would require her to spend a few months a year in Europe, she couldn't say no. Bernard was given primary custody of the girls, and though their mother spent most of her time when not overseas in New York, while the girls were young, they were primarily raised by nannies. Bernard was living in the same house as them for most of their youth (though he was frequently making business trips back to Paris), but it wasn't until the girls were teenagers that he ever really settled down and tried to be a dad. In recent years, he's been relinquishing some of the control of his business to the children of his first marriage, who are all adults by now, and in turn, he's been able to spend more time trying to parent. That's what he claims, at least. Adeline is convinced that it's only because his manipulative new wife needs him around, and not because he really cares about his kids.

Adeline's childhood was something that people dream about, even if she complained throughout much of it. Her family was as financially secure as they came, and no wishes were too big to be granted. She has attended Constance Billard since she was a child, and she thrives there, at least socially speaking. She doesn't do quite as well academically, but as a child, it genuinely had to do with her struggling to learn at the rate of her peers, and just not being intelligent enough to keep up with her classmates. As she grew older, her own tendency to neglect school work played a role in it too, but it's important to note that even as a child, she struggled with school. Her biggest (and possibly only) life issue came in the form of developing an eating disorder when she hit her teenage years. It wasn't something that came on suddenly and strongly, but something that she developed slowly over time. It hit its most dramatic peak this past spring, when she was eating only a couple hundred calories a day, and had fainted twice in school, before her father truly acknowledged that something was wrong. Without warning her, she was forced into a residential treatment facility over the summer, and only recently returned to New York before the start of her junior year. Coming home after being in a treatment center for months is a change in itself, but Adeline now also has to adjust to living with a stepmother and stepsister.

Unlike the rest of us, sex, lies and scandal never take a vacation. Instead, they take the Long Island Expressway and head east, to the Hamptons. Some would say summer is their busiest season. Think Park Avenue, but with tennis whites and ban de soleil. The players change, but the game remains the same. Though school may have started last week for our favorites of the Upper East Side, we all know that summer doesn't truly end until after the annual white party hosted by Bernard Arnault. It's the Met Gala of the summer, and the most exclusive Labor Day party on the island. Didn't get invited? Don't worry, I'm sure you're not the only one. Besides, you know that I'll be there, ready to catch you up on all of the colorful drama that's sure to unfold in this sea of white.

Olivia Ingram - location: bedroom - outfit

The bedroom was dim and quiet, save for the sound of consistent typing. Olivia sat in her desk chair, one leg tucked under her while the other one dangled and swayed rhythmically. She was looking at her computer screen, as she had been for the past three hours, doing various odd jobs and surveying the analytics of her and Naya's new video. This particular video had been one of her favorites, although she seemed to think that about every new video. Their content seemed to just keep getting better and better, and their fans were taking notice of that.
Olivia was thankful that she had this new venture to spend time on. She put so much time and thought into the videos, and she could tell that Naya felt the same way. It was comforting, having something that she would get to actually reap the profits of. Most of her work was sent away and she never really saw how it turned out. With this YouTube channel, she was able to see the daily growth of their channel, see how many people they made happy, and actually have fun while making the videos.
buzz buzz
Liv peeked down at her phone, slightly grinning at the two unanswered messages. This past year, Olivia had truly been working on her personal life, especially the balance between her 'real' and 'fake' lives. Although now she couldn't really tell which was real and which was fake. She replied to the two messages.

To: Cass/Honey Bunches of Oats
yes of course my darling. i'll see you there?

Olivia chuckled at her nickname for Cass. She called him by ridiculous couples pet names often, but some of the most common were darling, honey bunches of oats, or babydoll. They were always a joke, but to those who weren't aware of the situation they just looked like a gross lovey-dovey couple.

To: Naya/Chef Nay Nay
i think so too! i like the music, very catchy :P will you be at the arnault's party?

Olivia stood, realizing now was probably the time to be getting ready. She exited her room and headed to the bathroom that she shared with her parents. She curled her short hair and pinned a few pieces back, and threw on some shimmery shadow and red lips. The look gave her a very vintage, 50's vibe. It suited her style, so she walked back to her room and chose a dress that matched the look she was going for. Looking over herself in a mirror, she did a twirl and decided that she was happy with the look. The outfit as a whole gave her a youthful but classic look, something that she was proud of. It seemed to fit her personality. Olivia dressed modestly compared to those she went to school with. Knowing she wouldn't be able to explaini the outfit to her parents, she undressed and stuck the outfit in a dress bag, deciding that she would just pull over and change before she arrived.
Liv headed down the stairs with her dress bag and purse in tow, the smell of freshly ground coffee hitting her before she even reached the bottom step. "Mom, dad I'm heading over to Syd's for the evening! I might spend the niiight!" She threw out a random name as her coverup, and made eye contact with her mother before she left. Her mother only gave her a small nod, because Olivia knew all of the rules. Keep them updated. Make good choices. Remember who you are.
That last one always got to her. She never seemed to be able to keep it. Oh well, 2 out of 3 is better than none. Olivia hopped in her jeep, something she was immensley proud of. She didn't splurge often, but Liv had saved for years to be able to afford her own vehicle, and the fact that she was able to buy her own pretty white jeep was mind-blowing to her every single time she hopped into it. She kept it down the street from her parent's coffee shop, though, because she would never be able to explain to them how she was able to pay for it.

CHARLOTTE â–ŋ ARNAULT

After secretly spending her entire summer at an eating disorder treatment center in Illinois, being back home was a transition. She had only gotten home on Monday, and although school had begun on Wednesday, she hadn't returned to school yet. She had been sick earlier in the week, and though it was pretty clear at this point that it had only been her anxiety making her sick, and not an actual virus, it was impossible for her father to force her to school when she was working herself up into getting physically sick because of the nerves. While it probably seemed extreme, Adeline wasn't good with change. It was one of the reasons for why transitioning into living at the treatment center had been so difficult for her, and coming back home after such a long stretch was no different. Coming back home to a new living situation, with her father having gotten married while she was gone, only made the transition seem more extreme. Additionally though, Adeline had the added element of having to stress over being gone for so long, simply because such an unexplained disappearance wasn't acceptable in the social scene that she was involved in. Had she had any forewarning about her father planning on sending her away, she would have made up some excuse for the disappearance that would be to come. She didn't have that luxury though, so now, she could only trust that her family had really kept up the lie that she was away in California for most of the summer visiting her mother, and in France for the rest of it, visiting her father's extended family. They had claimed that she was taking a break from social media, purging herself, if you will, though anyone who knew Adeline knew that she would never willingly do something like that. She knew that her close friends had to know that the story her family was selling was a false one, but now that she was back, she didn't know how to explain the truth to them. Sydney, in particular, was who she was worried about. She was her closest friend, and one of the most trusted people in her life, and yet her struggle with her weight had always felt like too big of a secret to share. Adeline had never wanted to admit that she had a problem, so that too, had allowed her to remain mum about the problem. Even now, when telling the truth was probably the only option that she had to explain such an inexplicable disappearance, she felt sick over having to admit to where she really was. When something made her anxious, Adeline's go-to response was to ignore it instead of facing the responsibility, and that was why she had refused to even touch her phone upon returning to New York, until today.

She sat on one of the high-top chairs at the island in the kitchen of her summer house silently, although the house itself wasn't silent. Thankfully, the kitchen itself was empty for the time being, aside from Simone, the family's chef. Down the hall there was another kitchen, and that was the one that was typically used to prepare big meals for parties like the one her family was currently preparing for. Because the party was being hosted outdoors, most of the event planners and staff involved with setting everything up were out there, and luckily for Adeline, she was pretty sure that her father and stepmother were somewhere out there as well. She was only just beginning to get over the bad mood that her father had put her in earlier in the day, after someone had informed him of how she had thrown out the meal that was supposed to be her lunch (and despite having zero evidence, Adeline was convinced that that someone was Grace). That was the only reason for why she was currently sitting in the kitchen. She had been forced to sit down for lunch #2, and this time, Simone wasn't going to let her cheat like she had with the salad that she had originally been given, despite it not fulfilling all of the requirements of her post-residential meal plan guidelines. Now, she was waiting for Simone to finish the grilled cheese sandwich, that would also have turkey and a sliced tomato inside of it. She was sure that it would taste good, but eating a 345 calorie sandwich, especially when bread was one of the foods that she dreaded the most, made her feel very uneasy. She had just finished sending out a text to Sydney, Esme, and Olivia, knowing that it was a pathetic and lackluster message to send after literally not being heard from for months, but not knowing what else to say, when her sister, Naya and Alaina entered the kitchen.

Soon after Naya had joined them, the girls headed downstairs. Charlotte was feeling her high enough that she didn't really want to start drinking... until she remembered that she had to spend the entire afternoon and evening socializing. It would have been bad enough if this party was at someone else's house, but because it was her father's name on the invitation, she had to be extra careful about seeming all prim and proper to represent the family properly, and that just wasn't something she was comfortable doing. It wasn't in her nature to be that person. Adeline seemed to handle it fine, and she definitely was the one who had the friends that her father probably appreciated more, but Charlotte had never caught on to the allure of putting up a fake image just to impress other people. It wasn't fun, and it felt like a waste of time. Thinking about that made alcohol sound all the more enticing. "You're drinking, right?" she said, cocking her head to the side to look at Naya. It still felt necessary to ask those kinds of questions, though it probably wasn't fair to Naya that she had such an ingrained reputation of being sweet and innocent. Charlotte asked because of that, but also because she knew that if she was drinking alone, her father would have something to say, but that if Naya was doing so too, he wouldn't be so quick to criticize. She was his new stepdaughter, and although Charlotte wasn't like Adeline, calling out any "injustice" the second it was noticed, she wasn't blind to how her father was putting in an extra effort to make Naya comfortable and happy in her new home. It was surprising, but it was a sign that he liked Grace for more than just her youth. "I'm sure Simone will make us food and drinks," she said reassuringly, as they headed towards the kitchen.

Despite the party not starting for another couple of hours, and it being apparent in her own attire, and Charlotte and Alaina's too, that no one was dressed for the occasion yet, Adeline couldn't resist commenting on Naya's very showy outfit. It was something that was probably understandable to be worn lounging around the house, but it wasn't something that Adeline would ever wear, and as most people knew, she couldn't comprehend that other people would think differently than her. "Are you and Grace heading back to the brothel you guys came from, or did you finally find out that my dad signed a prenup, and that if you want anything close to this kind of life after he dumps her in a year or two, that you better use these parties to 'network' and find yourself a sugar daddy of your own?" It was an unnecessary dig, especially considering that Naya literally had not said a word to her, and that in the past five days that Adeline had been home, Naya and Grace had been nothing but nice to her. Adeline's mood seemed like a wild card lately. There were moments when she was cordial towards her new stepmother and stepsister, and others when she was venomous. The latter usually came about for no clear reason, though it was typically Adeline projecting her frustrations about other things onto them. They were an easy scapegoat to release her anger when she was feeling anxious about her weight, or the thought of returning to school, or still feeling frustrated over her entire summer being absolutely destroyed. In reality, there was a logical part of Adeline that did exist, that wasn't bogged down by her drama-queen antics. That piece of her knew good and well that there was no reason for her to lash out at Grace and Naya, especially considering that the rest of her family, including her mother (who Adeline was very close with), had taken to them quickly. Being irrational was part of who Adeline was, and specifically because they had been introduced into her life during what was probably her lowest point in terms of her struggle with her eating disorder, she was just more inclined, now, to associate negative feelings with them.

Charlotte hadn't been expecting to see Adeline in the kitchen of all places, but she was less surprised by the words that came out of her mouth, than her physical being as a whole. The comment towards Naya warranted an eye roll from her as she passed the island, ignoring her twin but glancing back at Naya, "Are you as shocked as I am that she managed to add a few new words to her vocabulary this summer?" she asked. Had Alaina not been standing there, then Charlotte surely would have made an insensitive added comment about how she thought she had only added some weight, not vocab words too, but she was decent enough not to go that low in front of someone who Charlotte assumed had no knowledge of Adeline's situation. She was just about to round the corner to approach their chef, who, by all means was a nice...though sometimes cold seeming, when she decided that Naya probably had a better chance of getting them a meal. "You ask," she mouthed to Naya, smirking and waving to the woman whose back was towards them. Simone was probably busy right now with a bunch of tasks lined up by her father, and because Bernard seemed against saying no to Naya right now, she was sure that that message had been passed along to the staff as well.

Naya practically snorted at Alaina's response, remarking, "Yeah right." She might have been a lot more for trying to find enjoyment in larger settings, particularly now that Grace has her occasionally needing to attend scenes such as the one that will be taking place later for the sake of family, but it didn't mean that Naya didn't have her reservations. Or that she was ecstatic about it. It was one of the reasons why she was eager to go get food with Charlotte and Alaina. Having something in her stomach would quell the fluttering in her belly and the antsy jitters rattling just below the surface. Naya followed her two friends out and away from Charlotte's room, and in the time it took them to reach the main kitchen Naya learned that they mostly used for the family, Naya was able to at least respond to Olivia. Her face might have remained somewhat chipper, though rather blank, when Charlotte asked if she was drinking, but Naya found herself rolling her eyes as she both text the A-Lister and made the conscious effort to not fall flat on her face while bounding down the steps. The annoyance Naya felt when friends only acted or spoke in correlation to the person she presented to them was probably unfair, but to a degree, it was also unfair for it to be insinuated as her only trait. Being good was not one-dimensional or all that she was, and she knew that to some degree, Charlotte understood that. It didn't make Naya's distaste for the insinuation go away either.

kinda dont have a choice. family obligations n allat lol

Naya would have replied to Castiel's message as well, but Adeline's greeting was startling distraction, so much so that Naya had to glance down at her attire before immediately glancing at Charlotte and Alaina, self-conscious. Naya had not seen an issue with what she had been wearing. She had showered earlier and thrown on the first things she found that weren't the clothes she was considering for later. They had no plans of really seeing anyone important until then and it didn't feel like she was wearing anything particularly revealing...right? Adeline's vitriol should not have been surprising considering her mood since her return from the program, but the awareness of Adeline's ever-present attitude didn't make the words offend any less than they already did. Naya couldn't even offer a rebuttal, just a tight smile at Charlotte's slight dig. It probably would have done her no good to say anything in the first place. While Grace vowed that Naya's patience would wane and she'd go off on Adeline as she already had once before, Naya just didn't see a point. Answering to Adeline's bait would give her a reason to think they were just all out to get her and Naya just didn't have it in her to entertain in a show she never asked for to begin with. Instead, ignoring Adeline completely, Naya approached Simone, putting on a small smile. Naya actually liked Simone and had frequently sat and watched the older woman cook since coming to the Hampton residence, so she didn't feel as much of the coldness emanating from her as someone else might. "I know everyone's got a lot to do," she said. "but do you think you could make us something to eat and cocktails? Pre party jitters and all that?"

While Simone didn't look up from the grilled cheese that she was sliding out of the pan and plating for Adeline, Charlotte watched as her expression softened. She knew that making Naya ask was their best bet. While she knew that Simone wouldn't have outright rejected her request, at least not if she said that their guest, Alaina, was the one who was hungry, she knew that she wouldn't have been as willing to do it, compared to Naya asking. Simone was actually quite a nice woman, despite Charlotte claiming her eastern European roots making her come across as being cold and bitchy. In reality, Charlotte's tendency to get high and request random large meals at all times of the day didn't make Simone's job the easiest, and after working for the family for years, she was close enough with them where she was family-like. That meant that she could get away with rolling her eyes and expressing her annoyance with Charlotte in French sometimes, and normally even getting a chuckle out of her dad for that. In Charlotte's defense, though, she was sure that she would have been the favorite of the twins, if Adeline ever entered the kitchen.

"Pre-party jitters that have us specifically craving tacos and margaritas," Charlotte chimed in, taking a seat at the island closest to Adeline, but with one empty chair in between. Alaina had been the one to bring up tacos, and though Charlotte easily could have had a grilled cheese or two and been satisfied, the idea of tacos sounded even better. Likewise, she wasn't very picky when it came to alcohol, but if they were having tacos, something with tequila seemed like the best pairing option. With no resistance, which Charlotte again only attributed to Naya asking, Simone agreed, only after sliding Adeline her sandwich and sending her a subtle "I'm watching you" look. Smiling in triumph, she then glanced to Naya, and nodded towards Alaina. "Unfortunately, this one's gonna be joining you on the 'good behavior' list tonight. Baby Izzy is coming, and I know she's gonna end up playing the 'gotta be a good sister' card," Charlotte complained, adding in a dramatic sigh for the effect, as she referenced Alaina's responsibility to be a good older sister, though she didn't know if that was actually how Alaina was going to act. "Which actually only means that you'll be appointed to my second-in-command drunk. You know Grace doesn't give a fuck if you drink. I don't think I could do anything to make my dad hate me more than when I took four shots of tequila back to back and threw up in front of Emmanuel Macron's wife this summer in Cannes, so I'm good to go too," she said with a playful smirk. "I'm craving trouble tonight. And tequila," she continued, looking towards Simone, who was surely still in earshot range, though her back was turned to them as she cooked the meat they had just requested for the tacos. "Simooooooone!" Charlotte called out, in a way that was probably obnoxious enough to be Adeline-like, though Charlotte's annoying behavior towards their staff was only playful and meant to mimic in jest the way that Adeline seriously treated some of them, "I told Naya that she needs to learn what patience is, but she was wondering if you'd make those margaritas now!" Although she received a few choice words muttered in French and an eye roll, three margaritas were soon placed in front of them, and Charlotte couldn't resist blowing an obnoxious kiss as a thank you. "Drink up, you ugly bitches."

Charlotte chiming in with specifics was needed because in all honesty, Naya had no idea what she wanted, she just wanted food. And, yes, surprisingly, a margarita as well. A small part of her brain immediately longed for chicken tenders and french fries, but that was easily stamped down by the proposal of tacos. Seeing as Charlotte handled making sure Adeline got her sandwich, Naya immediately felt that her job was done and headed to one of the chairs at the island, the one farthest away from Adeline. Out of all of Sydney Persson's friends, Adeline was the least intimidating and Naya has never been afraid of her. However, she wasn't going to test their already fragile standing with closer proximity and she eagerly let the girl's twin take the seat closest to her, while she herself took the farthest. It didn't take much for Naya to become a target, she realized, but she could at least somewhat distance herself from the line of fire. Besides, she finally looked at the text from Cas and smirked. She could almost see the betrayed expression on his face at her demands.

To: Cas
of course babe

Naya looked up just in time for Charlotte to turn to her, and Naya raised an unimpressed eyebrow at Charlotte's story about the summer. Naya had not exactly gone everywhere with the Arnaults during the summer. She had desperately wanted to spend her time with her grandparents and the rest of her family. Anyone else would have taken advantage of such a prestigious opportunity, possibly being able to travel out of the country and she definitely was going to want it, perhaps next summer of it was alright with Bernard. She also didn't want to be away from her family now that she was definitely not going to be seeing them much and then she wasn't trying to look like she was mooching off of the Arnault family wealth so early. In her head, it seemed realistic that people would automatically believe that Gigi was marrying into the family for money and that the monetary benefits of the marriage would go to Naya's head, but it turned her off to some degree. She didn't want this family for what they could give her; all of it was for Gigi and how ridiculously (and yes, Naya was a touch jealous) smitten she looked every time her eyes landed on her husband. The rumors and assumptions probably won't go away just because Naya chooses to distance herself, but for the first few months, Naya had decided to distance herself in the best way that she could for her own conscience. Her vlog was helped.

"Ummm...correction, you're usually craving trouble," Naya couldn't help but chime in, in jest, grinning at the brunette. "Besides, we both know I'm never going to be able to keep up with you, ever." While Naya frequently lamented that she had a low tolerance for alcohol, the truth was that she never challenged it or let it become better. She always knew her grandmother hated when she drank and even though her dad thought it amusing to let the kids take sips here and there to see who would pass out first (and yes, despite how normal they generally were, Naya came from a family of occasionally immature assholes), she had never really tried seeing if she could get herself to make it past a few drinks. She stayed away from hard liquor on most days and while the margarita wouldn't do her in, she had no doubt that following Charlotte's lead tonight would result in her probably getting plastered. And while a bigger part of her brain feared the idea of what she would do without her inhibitions - without self-control and discipline, which everyone knew her for - a smaller, louder part was anticipating it.

She should have known that Charlotte couldn't help being Charlotte and the warning came when Charlotte dragged out Simone's name. Naya watched as the older woman stiffened slightly and then she herself had to squawk at Charlotte pinning her own impatience on Naya. "Asshole," she hissed at the girl, though the fact that her mouth couldn't really frown around the amused smile bespoke her actual enjoyment of the overall situation. It was easy, in those moments, to pretend as if Adeline wasn't even there. Welcome, even. Naya didn't need a bad mood just before an event she was half anticipating, half dreading. Soon enough, drinks were placed in front of them and Naya rolled her eyes at Charlotte, but picked hers up anyway. Before bringing the glass to her lips, she made sure to thank Simone and then took a drink, setting the glass back down after she swallowed.

In a way, Charlotte was right. A lot of the times, Alaina felt like the least liked child out of the family, especially next to her brother. Feeling like your parents had a favorite from time to time wasn't actually that weird as far as having siblings went, and objectively, Alaina could reason that her feelings were false and it wasn't like her parents were trying to get rid of her. Still, and especially with starting her treatment, she felt like the biggest burden in the family. She wasn't a complete victim, as she had been the instigator many times before and would continue to be one in the future, but that didn't mean that she wanted to always be on her parents bad side. Alaina still had no desire to be around her family at this second, but her current little rebellion was sufficient for _ reasons. One, it was basically harmless. Sure, it was a bit rude, but like with most parents, they knew when to take their losses, and Alaina did too. She knew she would catch flack for it when she got home, but her removing herself from their presence wasn't a big enough deal for her parents to flip out over. The second being that Alaina could only step out of line, especially in public, but so much. She might have still been mad at her mother, or maybe not even mad but just not ready to be over what happened this morning, but she couldn't totally lash out. She couldn't just down a bunch of alcohol (especially in front of dad) so casually, so to be visibly drunk would definitely be pushing things too far, and even Alaina knew when to push the limits and for what reasons. While she didn't think her feelings and frustration were totally unwarranted, she didn't think it was that big of a deal that she needed to embarrass her family and face huge repercussions for it. So yes, she probably would be a bit tamer today, and maybe even a smidge more simply because her removal from family affairs already had her in the orange zone.

Plus, like Charlotte mentioned, her sister would be in attendance. Besides not wanting Izzy to think anything was wrong, Alaina wasn't so selfish that she would actually do something seriously stupid in front of her younger sister. Still, though, that didn't mean that Alaina was going to just reject the margarita in front of her. It was the principle behind it, she told herself as she raised her glass. "I can't play the card until my family actually shows up so." She pressed the rim to her lips, downing some of the liquid in place of finishing her sentence. Family issues aside, Alaina wasn't trying to get crossed. If it was just going to be her tonight, and her family was elsewhere, she of course wouldn't mind getting tipsy on top of being high, but her buzz was good enough to suffice for the time being. In fact, between the two, Alaina should just stick to being high because that way she could still get her rebellion out, but without having to worry about the consequences that drinking alcohol could bring, like inevitably acting like a dumbass if she got too drunk. Right now, she just wanted those tacos and to lie down. The smell of the meat cooking only intensified her appetite, but being in front of Adeline did have her feeling a bit self-conscious. During the first meeting, Adeline had made a comment about Alaina being bulimic because Alaina wasn't skin and bones like a lot of the other girls there. It was a comment that needed to marinate with time to really feel the full weight of its impact. It wasn't something that was keeping her up at night, and Adeline wasn't even entirely incorrect because Alaina did have bulimic tendencies, but for some reason, she just couldn't shake the words, and the fact that she couldn't only bothered her more. Because it only seemed to actualize that she did have an unhealthy relationship with and concept of food and her body.

Being high, it was only natural that she would get the munchies, and she actually was quite hungry considering she hadn't touched food since this morning, but her eagerness did cause her the slightest bit of shame. Not enough for her to second guess eating, because she definitely wasn't going anywhere without eating at least one taco. Because she was buzzed, she could acknowledge these feelings but without actually caring enough to do anything about them. So in the back of her mind, she knew that she would instantly regret binging right now, and she knew she wasn't just doing it because she was hungry or high. Alaina knew just how shitty she would feel afterwards, and that was part of the reason why she was doing it, but also to prove to herself that it was all in her head, and that she could binge without feeling any repercussions, even if that was just wishful thinking to rationalize her actions, knowing how the end result would actually be. "If I do get too fucked up, I can't promise you that I won't dip into your bedroom and take a nap. So Naya, if you're gonna sub in for me, let me know because I might just eat these tacos and see y'all tomorrow," Alaina said, obviously joking, but anyone who knew Alaina knew she was shameless enough in that regard to not be totally kidding.

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Sydney didn't mind Camilo coming inside with her, but that was mostly because she didn't plan on actually spending much time inside with him. She would leave him in a common area space, and talk to Adeline in private. That was the plan, at least, but as a familiar looking member of the Arnault house staff, whose name Sydney couldn't place, let them in and informed her that Adeline was in the kitchen, the plans changed a bit. Or they would, even if Sydney didn't realize it yet. "I need to speak to Adeline. Someone left her manners, and apparently, her brain, in California, and being the good friend that I am, I'm going to make sure we fix that right now," she explained curtly, prolonging the lie that Adeline had spent the summer in California with her mother, despite now knowing that it wasn't true. Even if she had every intention of blasting Adeline for not being truthful with her, she didn't think that Camilo had any reason to know the truth. Despite feeling selfishly entitled and offended by all of this, Sydney was still capable of recognizing that an eating disorder was a sensitive topic, and something that Adeline clearly and understandably didn't want the world knowing about. Milo was probably the sweetest guy that Sydney knew, but it wasn't about him. It was about Adeline... or at least it was supposed to be about Adeline, since it was hard for Sydney to feel like this wasn't also about herself, now that Adeline apparently thought that she was only as important as Esme and Olivia, and that such a bland and generic text was an acceptable first form of communication after dropping off the face of the planet for months.

Despite knowing that Adeline had a twin sister and a stepsister, she expected the girl to be alone in the kitchen. Not seated at the same island as Charlotte, Naya, and Alaina. Given the circumstances of all of this, it was even more surprising to see her with a plate of food in front of her, and call it cold, but Sydney made sure that her eyes were trained on that food for longer than necessary as soon as she was close enough to the four girls and the cook standing a few feet away. She hadn't even noticed that the member of the house staff that had let her in had followed closely behind her and Camilo, struggling to keep up with Sydney's purposely fast pace, until the woman caught up with them in the kitchen and spoke. "Miss Arnault, guests are here for you." It was probably the greeting that was needed for Sydney and Camilo's presence to be noticed, and although she glanced back at the woman with an annoyed expression, as if she didn't need anyone other than herself to announce her presence, she was secretly grateful for it, because she didn't know what to say in that immediate moment.

While part of her was overjoyed to finally see her best friend after months of wondering if she was okay, she didn't show that. Her face remained fairly emotionless, her lips turning up only slightly into a cold smile that was only present because Adeline wasn't alone. Yes, it was great that Adeline looked fairly healthy, and that she was even alive, and mostly, that she was apparently eating, but again, it was important to remember that despite being a good friend at heart, Sydney was a conceited person in the sense that she was the most important person in her world. Adeline had been through hell and back this summer, but Sydney couldn't focus on that when she felt like she had been disrespected. "Since we have so much catching up to do, it only seemed appropriate to stop by early," she stated, addressing Adeline in a manner that definitely seemed cold considering that they were best friends who hadn't seen each other for so long. "I can only imagine that you have some exciting stories to share about the witness protection program that your sister told me you were placed in. Are we going to walk and talk, or should I take a seat?" she said, walking towards the empty chair that separated Charlotte and Adeline, and raising her eyebrows in a nearly challenging motion as she studied Adeline's expression. She purposely ignored the three girls beside her, though it was clear that she was willing to use their presences as a leverage tool, because she was sure that Adeline wasn't going to want to do this "catching up" in front of them, and Sydney didn't want to either.

Carbs were a struggle for Adeline, even after months of intensive therapy. There were certain foods that she had grown more comfortable with while in treatment. Before going, she had a very limited set of food that she felt comfortable eating when she did allow herself to eat. Her safe foods included most raw vegetables, most fruits, rice cakes, and plain baked chicken. She would eat other things from time to time, but not without feeling anxious and guilty afterwards. Treatment had helped her quite a bit, though she still had ways to go. She had learned that dipping her celery sticks in peanut butter wasn't going to kill her, and made it taste a lot better, and that getting her calories through a real meal, like salmon and vegetables, was much more enjoyable than being forced to get them through drinking Ensure every day, like she had to do in the beginning of her treatment when she was still set on refusing some meals. She was doing better now, and even she recognized her own progress, but despite knowing that Simone hadn't doused this sandwich in oils and fats, it still made Adeline feel uncomfortable when it was set in front of her. Eating around other people, especially Naya and Alaina, who she didn't know well enough, made it even worse.

At the very least though, everyone in this room knew that Adeline had a problem with food. Naya and Charlotte didn't know that Alaina knew, but Adeline did. Alaina was seated three seats away with her, with an empty seat and Charlotte in between, and the girl wasn't paying her any mind, but it didn't stop Adeline from feeling like she was somehow watching her. Knowing that Alaina knew, though, made Adeline feel somewhat better, because at least now if she was called out on something by Simone, like how she was pulling the sandwich apart and first only eating the tomato, it wasn't like her secret was being spread to anyone who didn't already know it. "ArrÃĒte ça," {Stop that} Simone said to her, flashing her a predictably stern look, when she had moved away from the stove for a few seconds to get plates, and had witnessed Adeline dissecting the food on her plate. She was well aware that she wasn't going to get away with tearing the sandwich to pieces and somehow making it look like she had eaten most of it, but she still felt better tearing off small pieces at a time to eat, rather than just being a normal person and taking a bite out of it.

Charlotte smirked at the girls, mostly because she didn't doubt what either of them said. Naya was definitely too much of a good-two-shoes in Charlotte's opinion, to ever be able to keep up with her, even with Charlotte trying to push her towards the dark side more strongly, and Alaina was just as unenthused by parties like these, that it didn't seem improbable for her to find eating tacos and going to bed to be a better plan. Especially with their high setting in, it didn't sound like a bad deal to Charlotte anyway. "My bed is big enough for the two of us," Charlotte pondered, "And this is Naya's first year as an honorary Arnault.." she continued, leaning forward to look past Alaina and at Naya more directly, "So, you must end up on your own today." Even if socializing with the type of people who would be coming to today's party wasn't Charlotte's cup of tea, it wasn't going to be as bad as she was chalking it up to be. Her father would probably bother her in the beginning about being polite and mingling with his guests, but after the first hour or so, she would be able to disappear with her own friends, and her father would be too consumed with his (and hopefully, a lot of wine too), to bother her.

Only a few more minutes passed before Charlotte watched Simone turn the stove off, pour the seasoned meat into a bowl, and place it in front of them, along with a series of other small bowls with various toppings, and hard and soft taco shells, so that they could make their own tacos. Although it was probably Simone's way of saying "do it yourself", since she couldn't verbally say that to them, the make-your-own setup she had produced was preferable in Charlotte's mind, anyway. No one ever put as much cheese on her tacos as she actually wanted, so now, she was able to pile the toppings as high as she wanted, and she wasted no time in doing so. It had served as enough of a distraction that she didn't even look up when one of their staff members entered and said something about guests. Though the "Miss Arnault" line meant that it was just as possible that she was speaking to her as it was Adeline, Charlotte wasn't expecting anyone, so she didn't waste any energy in looking. When she heard Sydney Vale's voice, however, she turned her head to confirm that it was her. "I don't think I know who I was more grateful to not have to deal with this summer, between the two of them," she muttered to the girls beside her. Sydney never really bothered her, likely only because she was Adeline's sister, but that didn't mean that Charlotte liked her. They kept out of each other's way for the most part, but Charlotte wasn't blind to how controlling and domineering the girl was. She had such an esteemed reputation for a reason, and Charlotte could respect that, but it wasn't one that she was envious of like so many other people. Since Sydney was already starting with her, albeit it indirectly with the reference to the witness protection program lie she had used earlier this summer, Charlotte didn't hesitate to return the favor though. "Aren't you forgetting to say hello to your sister-in-law, Sydney? Unlike the Perssons, the Clarkes and the Arnaults don't keep secrets, so take a seat and tell us what's on your mind," she said, patting the empty seat beside her that Sydney was lingering beside. She doubted that Naya or Alaina wanted to deal with Sydney, but Charlotte couldn't help being obnoxious. She could tell that Adeline was startled and uncomfortable, so why not possibly make everyone else as well?!

Startled really was the best way to describe how Adeline felt when Sydney came in unannounced. Before this summer, Adeline had never spent more than a couple of days without speaking to the blonde, who was undeniably the best friend she had had since she could comprehend what friendship meant. So, in addition to having to adjust to every other element of being abruptly uprooted from home and thrust into a treatment center, it was difficult for her to adjust to spending months apart from her best friend. She loved Sydney and had missed her a lot, and so while she had been incredibly anxious to see her again, only because she knew that the blonde would expect an answer for her disappearance, she had also been incredibly excited to see her. In the moment though, that excitement seemed non-existent, and that was mostly because Adeline was caught off guard, and it didn't take much to sense the contempt in Sydney's voice. The presence of Camilo, someone who Adeline was pretty close with as well, and had wanted to first see on terms when she was more prepared, only threw her off more. Suddenly, she felt like eating ten of the sandwiches in front of her would be less anxiety-inducing than dealing with this, and her sister egging Sydney on wasn't helping matters. She purposely kicked Charlotte in the leg as she turned in her seat and stood up. "Hiiiiiii... no, no, we can walk and talk," she said, clearly anxious as she nodded with certainty.

"Pas avant d'avoir fini de manger." {Not until you finish eating}

Simone's voice was serious enough that Adeline didn't ignore it like she typically would have. "Je vais me tuer et vous blÃĸmer si vous me faites rester ici en ce moment," {I will kill myself and blame you if you make me stay here right now.} she snapped back, turning her head back towards Sydney a second after speaking, only because she knew that there was actually a chance that Simone would get angry at her for being disrespectful. Adeline feared few people, because she struggled with the concept of having to listen to authority, but Simone had been a consistent enough presence in her life that she had probably been reprimanded by her more times than she had by her actual father.

Simone didn't respond as Adeline hurried out of the kitchen with Sydney, though her expression spoke to how the girl was definitely screwed once she ended up alone with Simone again. Charlotte was mildly disappointed that a confrontation hadn't occurred, but with an amazing looking taco in front of her, she couldn't be that upset. "For the non-French speaking folks in the room, that was my completely mentally-stable sister using her infamous, 'I'm going to kill myself if I don't get my way and I'll blame you in the suicide note' line," she explained in a sarcastic, yet nonchalant way, because Adeline's dramatics were really too be expected at this point. Looking to Naya though, she smirked and said, "What do you think Grace would do if you ever used that on her?", before turning to Alaina, "And I don't know how you deal with AJ dating her. I mean, I guess it works to your benefit. I've never read about Gossip Girl trashing you in her blog, so Sydney must be using her connections to keep her sis-in-law safe. God only knows that you deserve to be dragged through the mud for making such a weak taco when you work in a fucking taco shop," she teased, as she looked at the taco on Alaina's plate, which was quite possibly only bare looking because she hadn't finished making it. That didn't stop Charlotte from being obnoxious and annoying and literally flinging a spoonful of shredded cheese at Alaina, though. Maybe she needed to take a few more hits, she minutely considered, because this troublesome energy she was suddenly embracing probably wasn't going to do her good once guests started arriving...

James sighed. Today was supposed to be easy and fun, and so far, it had been, but why did Austin have to kill the vibe now? Jameson knew that if this Sydney thing was bothering him enough to bring it up, it was bothering him a lot, and that meant that he was probably going to be a buzzkill all night, especially once they were on the same property as Sydney, and they had to act the part of a couple, even if they were having problems. To James, it was still baffling that Austin could manage to have (or create, in his opinion) problems, when he was dating Sydney Persson. The Sydney Persson. When you get the chance to date Sydney Persson, you don't allow problems to exist, nonetheless create them yourself. His cousin was a fool, the kind of fool who didn't know what he had until he lost it... and then once he had it back, proceeded to forget how lucky he was. "You don't understand girls because you actually want more than sex from them," James said, taking a chug of his beer before setting it back down on the table beside him. With a sigh, he pulled himself up so that he was no longer laying back on the lounge chair, but sitting instead, so that he could look at AJ on the chair beside him. "Look, man. You've got Sydney-fucking-Persson. Sydney Persson! You know how many guys, myself included, have wanted to tap that ass, but haven't been able to because of your ungrateful 'I don't understand her' self? A lot."He returned to a laying position on the chair, but continued a moment later to say, "So. what I'm saying is that if you continue to fuck up what you were blessed to have, I'm gonna kick your ass."

He was kidding (partially, at least). He and Austin were cousins, and close cousins at that, because James didn't have any siblings. That meant that a real rivalry or issue between them was never going to happen or last. However, that didn't mean that Jameson wasn't serious about how he would give him shit if he continued to overthink his relationship with Sydney. Of course, for Jameson girls had always been easy, and that was because he had never associated emotions with his interactions with them, like Austin did. Sometimes he would start to, but then reassure himself that it was stupid, and that sex was the only thing he needed from a girl. He was sixteen years old; it wasn't like he was looking to get married. Even after only a few years of being a play boy, James was beginning to feel like it was tiring. Sex itself wasn't something he thought he would ever get tired of, but constantly using it and toying with other people's emotions did lose its charm after a while. It wasn't a game that he was looking to abandon just yet, but he would have been lying if he claimed that he wasn't jealous, sometimes, of the depth of real relationships that a select few of his friends, AJ included, seemed to have with their real girlfriends.

"I think I'm gonna make my move on Adeline tonight. Word on the street is that she's making her grand reappearance at this party, and it's about time I hit that," he mused aloud, before finishing off the rest of his beer. Shortly after, a member of the housekeeping staff came by to take their two empty bottles, but Jameson refused the offer for new ones. It was getting late, and sooner than later, they were going to have to go inside to shower and get ready for this party. With their parents attending, they were going to be on their schedule, so they couldn't be running too late. "I could go for Olivia, too," he continued. "I'd throw Esme into the mix too, but we all know Milo's heart would break, and I'm not feeling like an asshole today. I don't think so, at least. I guess we'll wait and see. Hell, if you manage to fuck it up with Sydney, I'll throw her into the pool too,"
he said, offering a playful smirk in AJ's direction at the end, before pulling out his phone to send out a couple of texts.

I'd offer an A 4 effort, but we're also havin tacos if u wanted 2 chill here til later?

It was probably for the best that Naya had her phone as an element of distraction when Sydney and Milo arrived. Just as she was prepared to set her phone down officially and start making her taco from the materials Simone provided, her text tone for Derek went off and Naya divided up her time between answering him and making her first taco. She did, however, look up in the midst of forming that one level of meat at the bottom of her crunchy shell when she heard Sydney's voice. It just so happened that Naya promptly looked back down and refused to make one commentary, not even a chuckle for Charlotte's benefit when her friend acknowledged the queen bee. And judging by Sydney's already frosty tone, it was probably for the better. Naya wouldn't go so far as to say that she was afraid of Sydney. That would be a dramatic assertion - a valid one, but dramatic nonetheless. Naya likened it to intimidation; it felt less mortifying and less like she was feeding into the ego she had heard Sydney had. Despite being the same age and in the same grade, Naya innately felt their differences whenever she was in the same space as Sydney Persson and while she had yet to actually make a fool of herself in the girl's presence, she was adamant about not giving the girl any type of fuel in the near future. So, other than shaking her head at Charlotte trying to goad the girl, between her conversation with Derek and fixing up a bomb ass taco to chase her margarita, Naya was content to pretend as if Sydney hadn't even entered the room.

"Ummmm, considering the fact that Alaina works with authentic Mexican tacos on a regular, I'm pretty sure yours is the weak one since real tacos don't come with all that cheese," Naya commented smartly, adding a dollop of sour cream to her creation which included lettuce, cheese, and salsa. The salsa already had tomatoes in it and Naya liked tomatoes, but there was only so much she actually enjoyed before it became too much. Naya still preferred the authentic tacos she'd had in the past to the ones most American households made, but she had no issue with eating what was provided. Especially when it smelled as scrumptious as it did. "Knowing Gigi, though, if I ever said that to her, she'd probably just volunteer to help just so she could get the insurance money," she added and bit into her taco, a few pieces of lettuce and cheese falling back onto her plate. Despite still having a little bit in her mouth, Naya was just about to take another bite when her text tone went back off and she hurried to snatch up a napkin, set her taco down, and was wiping at her fingers and chewing what she had left when she peered down to see who had messaged her. Her cheeks were set aflame immediately afterwards.

Naya didn't know how long this James-Airth-knowing-she-existed thing was going to continue, but it never failed to still surprise her when he wound up texting her. It was always foolishness on his part, but texting her nonetheless. And it was confusing. And aggravating - very aggravating. And apparently gross today, judging from the mood she was guessing he was in from the text. Naya drained half of her margarita and was actually very much prepared to text him her very thought process, that he was gross and he honestly needed to leave her out of his thot ways, but liquid courage was a mischievous bitch that had her smirking and producing something else entirely.

To: James

Alaina shrieked when she felt a handful of shredded cheese come her way. She turned to Charlotte with a devilish grin, her arm beginning to extend towards the lettuce before Naya's witty comment allowed her to feel sufficed enough to sit back down and place the lettuce on her taco and not on her friend. Naya was probably right, even if she was joking, but Alaina actually didn't care that much. Simply because she loved tacos just that much. She obviously knew a bad taco when she saw or tasted one, but when it came down to corn versus flour tortilla or hard or soft shell, she wasn't so particular. She wasn't very elitist about much, and tacos were no exception. She was very flexible with this odd liking of hers, though that wasn't to say that even she had her moments where she wanted a real authentic taco. Most other times, it was just a matter of nuance, like now. She had taco materials in front of her (and the margarita was an obvious bonus) so she was elated. So much that the guilt she had been feeling just seconds before was slowly beginning to dissipate, for the time being, as she went ahead and grabbed a hard shell taco and began preparing that one.

Just before she was able to complain about the lack of la salsa verde, to her surprise, Sydney and Milo looked in, the former looking as though someone had already done something to piss her off. It went without saying that Sydney wasn't her favorite person, and even Alaina could admit to being cold to the girl, even when Sydney herself was being cordial (which was always around family). Alaina wasn't going to take that into consideration though, because she felt that being kind to your boyfriend's family was a requirement, not something that deserved recognition, which was part of the reason why Alaina was purposely cooler to the girl in the presence of family. But even Alaina had her limits and she wasn't so pressed about the girl dating her brother after years of them dating. That wasn't to say that she had warmed up to the girl, but rather the sour taste of the girl's presence and involvement in her life (albeit it only being through her brother, and even then contact was minimal) had become tolerable, just not enjoyable. Oddly enough, Alaina typically felt more inclination to be cold towards Sydney when they were around her family. It was really just Alaina playing her cards and using the home turf to her advantage, though she was never so out of line as to really be abnormally crass to the girl. It was just her way of challenging the girl and not for any particular reason. It wasn't a matter of power or revenge, but Alaina didn't respect the girl enough to not use it to her advantage. And more often than not, Alaina was the one who ended up paying for it because there had certainly been more than one occasion where she was scorned for not being the friendliest to Sydney when she was their guest. Now, she was more or less used to the girl and she tended towards just ignoring her presence altogether, save a few slick remarks that Alaina was never known for being able to withhold from no matter who the person on the receiving end was. In the Arnault's house, she knew better on how to act. Sure, Sydney wasn't her favorite person, and after having a few clues that her and her brother's relationship was more on the toxic side (though she didn't even consider AJ's own involvement in it) the girl definitely didn't fare better off in her mind, but with that being said, Alaina didn't despise the girl. She wasn't going to really go out of her way to make it known each time she saw her that she disliked her. The reasoning for this was less congratulatory than it sounded, though, because Alaina could be very non-committal, especially when there was little benefit for her. And jabbing at Sydney every chance she got not only provided her very little benefit, but what little it did give was fleeting. It also sometimes came down to her mood, and Alaina firstly wasn't in the instigating mindset, but most importantly she had food in front of her. Her love for tacos far surpassed her disdain for Sydney Perrson.

That was why Alaina rolled her eyes at Charlotte and not at Sydney, and if the girl had been closer, she would had pinched her side because she didn't want to be acknowledged by Sydney just as much as she didn't want to acknowledge the girl herself. Luckily, her sister and the girl's puppeteer disappeared without much stir and Alaina could only shake her head in anticipation for what the rest of the day would be like because even she couldn't miss Sydney seeming very...Sydney to Adeline. It wasn't any of Alaina's business, and she didn't think it was anything deep, so she decided to mind her own business and focus on the food in front of her. "Dressed to impress Milo," Alaina said, though she turned to the girls with an amused smile that was obviously improperly timed because it probably seemed like there was some inside joke between the three of them that had something to do with Milo's attire. In general, Alaina didn't bother with the 'A-listers', nor did she ever refer to them as such. Of them, though, Milo seemed the least harmful. She actually thought he was really sweet and was sometimes confused on how and why he rolled with the people he rolled with. Her brother was obviously a part of that crew, but again, Alaina didn't see her brother as being as bad as the others in the group which was clearly due to her own bias, but she also felt like she crucified her brother enough about her affiliation choices. "Help yourself to a taco," Alaina said, scooting one of the plates forward just half an inch. "You know A.J. isn't here, right? He's at James'." She leaned forward to look at Charlotte then, her brow raised in slight confusion. "Wait, who all is coming?"

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Though Sydney didn't expect anything different, she was pleased when Adeline seemed insistent on leaving the kitchen. Sydney knew a limited amount of Spanish; an amount that was impressive for someone who only knew it from school classes, but not enough to be called fluent, and she was mostly fluent in Swedish, but she didn't know French. She could pick up on a few words, simply from hearing Adeline speak to her father for years and years, and also from her own travels to the country, but not enough to truly understand quick back and forths, as was occurring here with Adeline and her chef. It didn't matter what was said, though, because without needing to make another sweetly-spoken threat, Adeline was leading her out of the kitchen. Sydney appreciated it not only because she wanted to speak in private, but also because she was in no mood to deal with Adeline's sister, who clearly was in the mood to put on a show today. Sydney had no problem with putting her in her place, but there was no denying that it was a more uncomfortable thing to do, given how close she was with Adeline. Unfortunately, the extent of their friendship had forced her to deal with Charlotte and her antics with little more than an eye roll.

She looked Adeline up and down as they walked upstairs to her bedroom. She looked healthy. She had put on a little bit of weight, maybe, but she was still stick thin. Had she been much thinner in the spring? Sydney normally thought of herself as being an observant person, and she was. How had she missed the signs? She had asked herself those kinds of questions countless times this summer, but it was hard not to run through the spiel in her head again, now that Adeline was standing right in front of her. She casually took a seat on one of the white chairs by the window once they reached the girls bedroom, and she smiled. It fell comfortably into place on her face, but it wasn't one that was necessarily there out of pure joy. In a twisted way, Sydney surely did like the feeling of power and control that this conversation came with. She had the upper hand, and Adeline had to answer to her, not the other way around. Typically, that wasn't something that Sydney liked exploiting when it came to her friends, but she felt like it was only fair given the lack of transparency, and in Sydney's opinion, disrespect and disregard that Adeline had shown their friendship this summer. "Did it only take a summer away for you to forget that I hate waiting?" Sydney said, breaking the silence that she felt had existed for a few seconds too long once they reached her bedroom. "One can only hope that you didn't forget how much I hate liars, too." She was going to give Adeline one chance to be honest with her. She owed her that much, at least, she decided.

ADELINE â–ŋ ARNAULT

Outfit
Location: Adeline's Bedroom
Dialogue Color: #7957C2

"I didn't have any choice in being gone all summer. It wasn't my fault." Adeline was very adamant in feeling that way, and in truth, she didn't have a choice. She didn't know that the private plane she was boarding in June was going to take her to a state where she would then be driven to a treatment facility. She thought that she was on her way to California to visit her mother, and she literally believed that until she got into the airport in Illinois and realized that she wasn't at LAX. To claim that it wasn't her fault was definitely aligned with her typical victim mentality. It was her fault that she hadn't accepted any of the preliminary help her father had pushed her towards a couple of months or so before that, and that she had continued to allow her illness to fester into something uncontrollable. She wouldn't accept responsibility for it, even today, but no one else could really be blamed for it.

At this point, Adeline wasn't necessarily opposed to telling Sydney the truth. It felt inevitable, to an extent, but additionally, she wanted Sydney to know. Despite the cold air that was suddenly filling the room, they were best friends. Adeline trusted Sydney. She told her nearly everything. The only reason that she hadn't told her about her illness before this summer, was because she didn't think she had one. She didn't think that she was skinny enough or sick enough to qualify as having an eating disorder, and she didn't want people to worry about her or try to regulate her. The last thing she wanted, really, was anyone judging what she looked like, and she knew that that was what was going to come out of revealing something like this. Now that she had been through what felt like hell and back, admitting to it was less of a burden, but she still didn't know how to actually say it. In the past few days, she actually almost felt like she had PTSD, as dramatic as that sounded, because thinking about how she had spent her summer almost immediately elicited tears and emotions from her. She knew that she didn't want to start crying now, but even if she wasn't actually upset, the anxiety that she was feeling made her feel like her throat was closing up, and that it was only a matter of time before the waterworks began.

She perched herself on the edge of her bed, her posture tight with tension as she looked almost everywhere but at Sydney. "My dad's new wife," she began, because she definitely was not in a place lately where she would consider calling Grace anything that had the word "mom" attached to it, "Convinced him that their summer would be better off without me in it. She basically dramatized an issue and claimed that I had some full blown eating disorder when it's never been that deep, and my dad tricked me into getting onto a plane that brought me to some treatment facility in Illinois." Okay, that wasn't that hard, she thought, but still, she didn't think that she could look directly at Sydney without crying until she had finished saying that. It wasn't a lie, at least not in her mind. At this point, she knew that she did have a bit of a problem last spring, at least by a doctor's standard, and not her own, but that was over and done with, she told herself, so she didn't want to make it seem like that big of a deal still. "And so that was where I was until this past Sunday, and I've basically been in bed since then. I just needed a few days to get myself together, which was why I wasn't in school, and I didn't reach out because..." This was another sentence that had her eyes drifting from the blonde, because part of her was sure that Sydney was more angry about her silence than her actual disappearance. "...I just didn't know how to like... explain myself. I knew you were going to be mad at me, and I obviously didn't want you to be mad at me, but I just didn't know what to say to, like, explain why I just disappeared like that. I just really don't want anyone finding out about where I was. It's stupid and embarrassing and I don't want people to think I'm crazy... I don't know." By that point, tears were streaming down Adeline's cheeks before she even realized it enough to stop them. She was an emotional person by nature, but stress always made it worse.

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Outfit: Here
Location: Adeline's Bedroom
Dialogue Color: #209DC7
As easy as it was to relic into the name "Ice Queen", and her reputation of being so controlled and cold that she seemed emotionless, Sydney had a heart. Especially when it came to Adeline, the closest thing she would ever have to a sister. While Sydney often probably seemed heart on Adeline (partially because she was, and partially because Adeline just tended to be so damn emotional and dramatic), she was also the person that Sydney would protect at all costs. It was sort of like those sibling relationships where it was okay for siblings to be mean to each other, but the second that anyone else did it, they deserved to be punched in the face without a single question asked. And seeing Adeline crying, despite Sydney feeling like it was unwarranted in the situation, automatically melted her ice cold heart. "No one's going to find out," she stated calmly, though notably softer than how she had been speaking earlier. "Esme knows, but only because Charlotte told her," she said. It was a lie, but she wasn't going to reveal how Esme truly knew. She didn't think that it was that deep, and she didn't feel inclined to protect Esme's source, but she didn't want it to seem like Esme had been trying to snoop, and also, Charlotte deserved a little extra drama in her life for testing her a few minutes ago. "Other than that, no one else will find out," she insisted. Despite loving Adeline, being comforting wasn't something that Sydney was very good at. It was hard for her to get all soft and mushy, and that was frustrating during times like these, when she knew that that kind of response was appropriate. "Seriously, please don't be upset and kill my vibe today," was the closest thing that Sydney could verbalize to mean "please don't cry, it upsets me to see you hurt".

"We do have some real catching up to do," she followed with quickly, deciding that a conversation change was necessary at this point. "I'm going to have someone bring my outfit over, so we can catch up while we get ready," she said, feeling comfortable enough with Adeline to not even ask permission. As she texted her driver to return to her house to pick up the pieces of her outfit for the party that had been sent out here a few days before, she noticed the text from AJ as well. She texted him back, before looking back to Adeline with a more genuine smile. "I did miss you. Esme surprisingly stepped up to the plate in many ways, but she didn't fill my Adeline void."

To: AJ
I'll put on a happy face for the party, don't worry. Just try not to be such a selfish and entitled idiot today,
because I'm not in the mood.
