Not caring for a physical appearance, he leaves his hair as it it when he wakes up. With minor raking through it, and he simply throws on whatever aesthetically pleases him. Which, might involve something he has monikered "floor fashion chic". Often throwing on flannels with blue coloring, and ripped jeans. He dresses to defy his parents in the only way he is sure he can without too-much trouble. He seems to always carrie a pair of headphones, due to his love of music.

A smile is often his accessory, to hide the feelings he has within. His hair is dark brown colored, that ge keeps brushed back (when it is brushed) to avoid the curly mop he calls hair covering his eyes. Whiskey colored eyes, that showcase all of his emotions. Changing the shade and tones within each emotion's range. A childish face, that often is the blunt of his own jokes. His skin is a fairly light peach, capable of showing blushes of the faintest color. His face and shoulders sparsely covered in freckles, that resemble constellations.

Within obvious reason, Cass is a big fan of comedy, reflected in his personality and daily life. He is always making jokes or sarcastic comments. He has a seemingly fond interest in making music, aspiring to be like great comedic singers such as Bo Burnham. White flowers have always been a favorite of his, since his older brother brought him some, when he did his first comedic performance. Singing even if offkey, has always been a favorite of Cass's, he loves feeling his emotions rise through his voice with every inflection. Castiel feels a person's eyes can tell so much about them, without words. Among other things Cass likes, dancing, playing piano, people who are confident about themselves, and the color green.

D I S L I K E S
Hyprocrites, like his mother seem to spark rage within the child. He doesn't seem to like cherry-flavored anything, refusing to consume it. Religion has never been his thing, since he saw through most people being hypocritical liars. Being restrained by his parents creates an eternal discomfort inside of Cass, which he uses as his comedic nature. His parents in general, Cass has never seemed to get along with. They are always judging with the holier than thou vibe that the often give off. He simply hates himself, in terms of he's insecure and feels like he's not living up to his potential. Others things that fall under Cass's dislikes are, whole milk, spicy foods, bullies, and heights.

Humorous | Insecure | Kind | Passionate | Protective

Rarely seen without a smile upon his face, Cass is a kind and humorous soul. Cracking jokes or sarcastic comments towards, well anyone really, he enjoys being the focus of attention. Becaus if he has an audience, it's harder for him to focus on himself....right? He seems to find solace in being the "class clown" because it gives him a more healthier way to vent. Although, such as anyone with insecurities, when he is with close friends he makes self deprecating jokes about himself.

A child who hates his own skin, from the constant influence of a religious upbringing, Cass feels so uncomfortable with who he is. While not being a religious person, he feels like, he's lying to himself. He's harming himself for not being open, and saying "hey I fucking like guys". He's not as confident with his sexuality, because he feels like "it's a mistake" not him, he couldn't be.

However, throughout the insecurities, is a kind person. He's always willing to help others, even if they are complete and utter jerks, he feels everyone deserves that chance to show their true person. Never tell Cass he can't do something. He will use his passion to prove you wrong. He hates it when people tell him what he can't do, or won't succeed at. He's a protective person, over his friends, over his brothers. In fact, most of the fights he and his parents get into are about his older brother. He doesn't think they should treat him in such a manner.

Judas Whitman | Father | 44 | Pastor/Writer
xx In general, Cass has a very tumultous relationship with his parents. His father, is much less infuriating than his mother, but he does constantly spark Cass's nerves. Never calling him by his preferred name, and calling him James, the two seem to have a misunderstanding. While. Judas wants the best for his son, he wants him to follow the path of Christ, and be pure. He doesn't want yet another, sinner as a son.

Mary Whitman (nee. Green) | Mother | 42 | Worship Singer/Real-Estate Agent
xx Ahh, have you heard the saying Mother knows best? Well, Cass has, and he greatly disagrees with such a statement. He views his mother as a selfish, and drama obsessed hyprocrite. His mother finds anyway to make herself seem like the victim, and nobody seems to notice it except her sons. Her husband is so blindly obssessed with it, he doesn't see that his own wife is having an affair on him. He feels like his mother is the worst type of person. She lies, and cheats, and pretends she's all holy in the eyes of the lord. For this is the reason, Cass isn't fond of religion.

Michael Whitman | Elder Brother | 20 | Actor/Dancer
xx Cass's closest bond lies within his elder brother, only three years older than him, the male has been there for him when most haven't. His brother came out three years ago, when he himself was a sophomore in high-school, and his parents kicked him out. The completely disowned them, and wouldn't allow Cass to really see him. But Cass never stopped talking to his brother, he's the one person he knows he can go to. After seeing his brother beaten by his father in a drunken rage, because he was gay, and his brother still tried to form a bond? Cass views his brother as a hero. His one person to look up to.

Gabriel Whitman | Younger Brother | 13 | Student
xx Adam and Cass, until recently were more acquaintances than they were brothers. In a sense, Cass tried to help his brother and watch over him, but his brother was never really accepting of it. But when Adam came to him about his own admission to kissing another boy, Cass immediately stepped into the role of the older brother. He told his brother not to worry, he wouldn't tell. He told his brother, that he had kissed another boy before (not fully admitting his attraction ) and they have been close ever since.

H I S T O R Y
In the beginning, Mary and Judas loved each other very much. Being high-school sweethearts, who both followed under the the path of god, were very much in love. They both vehemently believed in the bible, and waited until they were out of high-school and got married. Shockingly a few years after their marriage, they were blessed with a baby boy. Michael Zachariah Whitman, they're pride and joy under all that "god owned". Three years after they gave birth to another boy, who is the focal point of our story.

Growing up, Cass was the middle child. He was the exact definition of a middle child, his parents rarely paid attention to him. Though, his older brother did, and they formed a tight bond. Cass as a child, was incapable of staying still. His focus was all over the place, his parents firmly believed he had some mental issuses, that the Lord challenged them with. Evenetually, he was diagnosed with ADHD and was put on medication. His mother put him in piano and singing lessons, because though it was a "girlish" thing in his father's words, all men should be able to sing the Lord's hymns. Unknowingly to their three children, Mary and Judas's marriage slowly fell apart. At least in a one-sided manner, it did.

As children of a pastor, Cass and his brothers were always perfect examples. Though, his older brother acted out in some ways. Cass channeled his feeling into comedy, becoming a talented little comedian. In youth group, he'd tell jokes (non-offensive ones) related to the religion or current topic. Making him well-liked among his church peers. He loved the center of attention, and Zachariah loved to encourage him. He loved seeing his brother do the things he loved, his bravery. So when Cass turned thirteen, Zachariah came out to him. Now, Castiel didn't understand it. He assumed that people were supposed to love everyone, so he brought up the subject with his parents and it turned into a warzone. His parents went off on tangents, and Castiel soon became afraid of even thinking. At this time, he had noticed that he liked other boys a bit more. But by his parent's rules, he forced himself to date girls.

When he started high school, his brother had gained the courage to come out of the closet to his family. The backlash was hurtful, and Zachariah was sent to live on the streets for all his parents could care. This seemed to even further the fact that Castiel could not be gay. He couldn't even look at boys the same way as he did girls. When he became a sophomore, he went to his mother's office and saw her and some man getting together intimately. Recognizing the man, as one of his classmate's father, he kept shut. But since then, he tried progressing his inner pain and his insecurities through comedy. Eventually being called the "class clown" he sort of assumes, everyone exepcts him to be funny. He can't focus on himself. He wont.

T A L E N T S
Singing, though he sometimes refuses to acknowledge it, Cass is a very talented singer. Having been professionally trained, he's also talented at playing piano, guitar, and drums. Comedy has always been a talent for Cass, he can lighten the mood from the dark mysteries of life, and he loves to do it. He's a good listener, even though unable to handle his own issues. Cass seems to be very good at handling his friends' problems. He doesn't really see issues with such a thing because it distracts him from himself. Cass is a somewhat theater nerd, and often takes part in the school plays every spring. Something about it just makes him happy, and feel more connected to his brother.

W E A K N E S S E S
Even a mortal has weaknesses, and a jester like Cass is no exception. His own problems, Cass refuses to talk about them. He keeps his entire emotional state bottled up, and leaks out in small self-deprecating jokes. While comedy is a talent. Sarcasmis not, it's always been his quickest defense mechanism leaving him with black-eyes from time to time. While Cass may wish he's a rebellious child, he simply isn't,his parent's orders are final. He has trouble defending himself, either in ways of being bullied or just in general. Cass doesn't see the use. However, his biggest weakness of all are his insecurities, one day they may change his entire life. The may throw him down a path, he doesn't wish to live.

Unlike the rest of us, sex, lies and scandal never take a vacation. Instead, they take the Long Island Expressway and head east, to the Hamptons. Some would say summer is their busiest season. Think Park Avenue, but with tennis whites and ban de soleil. The players change, but the game remains the same. Though school may have started last week for our favorites of the Upper East Side, we all know that summer doesn't truly end until after the annual white party hosted by Bernard Arnault. It's the Met Gala of the summer, and the most exclusive Labor Day party on the island. Didn't get invited? Don't worry, I'm sure you're not the only one. Besides, you know that I'll be there, ready to catch you up on all of the colorful drama that's sure to unfold in this sea of white.

There were a host of variables that played a part in Naya contending with the idea of attending the Arnault party this year. The main one being Gigi. Her aunt had been antsy since her return from her honeymoon and while she was relatively the same over-the-top, lovable aunt that Naya knew best, seeing her so frazzled - particularly over an event that Naya didn't see as that important in comparison to the woman's wedding, which had happened months ago - made Naya amenable. It didn't help that despite the warm reception their family had given, none of her siblings nor her parents were willing to attend such a lavish affair, which meant that Naya had to be the representative for the rest of the family and a sign that there was nothing wrong with Gigi for her family not being involved. Obviously, there was at least one other person in her life, outside of this family she was married into, who supported her. Her grandmother's voice had sounded weak and thready over the phone, which explained their reluctance, but that was something Naya was willing to dissect at a later date.

The most important variable was, well, Naya's own secret desire to attend. The normal Naya would avoid huge events such as these, stray away from situations where she would have to network and socialize and put on a show.It wasn't to say that Naya was a lone wolf or anything like that, but she wasn't cheery and bubbly, and her vivacity only truly emerged in the face of good friends and low-key settings. However, she had Olivia - no, her and Olivia's vlog - to thank for this new insurgence of...want. That was a good word for it. Naya wanted to be better; braver, more confident. Their vlog and fanbase were still growing - and neither had ever even considered a growing fanbase, they had just wanted to make one - but their current followers, and the interactions that emerged with them made Naya read comments she ignored in real life. She was pretty. Personable. A bit of a smart ass on the low. Funny. Things Naya wouldn't normally give herself credit for and she still had a ways to go. Naya was very much still the same girl from before whose nerves presented themselves in self-deprecating thoughts and retreats back to her room or the library instead of putting herself out there, and letting go in the ways a lot of her peers did. But she wanted more than that. And that meant sucking it up and attending a huge party with her step-family at a huge ass house she was never going to get used to, not when she wasn't even used to the townhouse just yet.

Naya had just finished watching the last video that Olivia had uploaded yesterday. There were some edits the more popular girl had done, necessary cuts that she made if it seemed to take up too much time, but their cooking session slash goof-off made Naya smile in remembrance. And it had gotten more likes in the last twenty-four hours than she would have thought. Grinning at the her on the screen who kept poking her finger in the cookie batter bowl, Naya picked up her phone to text Olivia, but also Derek and Cas just in case either of them considered not showing up for the party.

To: Liv
Def luv da vid. N u were right. dis intro is better.

To: D, Cas
No excuses. u both better show up 2day

Just as she was about to put her phone back on its charger and probably find a movie on Netflix, Naya's text tone went off and she flipped through to see it was a message from Charlotte. The best thing that had come out of the marriage - other than Gigi's happiness, of course - was that it meant that Naya was living with one of her good girlfriends. It meant dealing with Adeline too, but having someone in the house who already liked you and with whom you got along was a welcome reprieve from one of the less tolerable interactions Naya had had with the other twin. Naya didn't even bother texting the girl back; she simply slid off of her bed while clutching her phone, slipped into the first pair of flip flops she saw, and headed out of her bedroom and two doors down the hall. Naya knocked twice before opening the door, a raised eyebrow and a small smirk her initial greeting to the two girls occupying the bedroom. "Smells like you two been having a mighty fun time in here," she remarked with a subtle wrinkle of her nose. The smell of marijuana wasn't strong, just lying beneath the subtle layer of vanilla from Charlotte's candle, but after unwittingly receiving contact highs from these two and her own family, Naya recognized the scent very easily.

The Class Clown

Great! The annual Labour Day party that the Arnault's hosted. Normally, Castiel didn't go, but because Naya was now intertwined with the Arnaults, he was required. He had to be there for his best friend. Sighing, he would look towards the mirror in his room, and look at himself. He looked like a thirteen-year old, and that's sad because his ACTUAL thirteen year old brother was nearly taller than him. Freak of nature. Hearing his phone go off, he would pick it up to see a text from Naya. Laughing a bit, he'd send a quick reply.

To: Princess Leia | Naya
why do u hate me, what did i ever do 2 u? i'm kidding tho, be omw in a few gotta make sure mom knows im gone

Moving towards his closet, the male would search for an acceptable outfit. Eventually finding one, the male would simply sigh as he made his way downstairs. As he did, he'd overhear his mother in her office talking to someone, who obviously wasn't his father. Gritting his teeth, he'd deliver a knock on the door, which ended the conversation quick. "Yes?", his mother questioned. "Just letting you know, Adam's at his friends, and Dad's at the church. I'm heading over to the Arnault's for their party, just letting you know I'm gone,
he spoke before exiting the house, not giving his mother a chance to reply. He had a strained relationship with her, especially after he caught her cheating. But that's a different story for today. His dark amber eyes remained focused, as he entered his baby, and would start it. Blaring music played over the stereo as he turned it down to send a quick text to Olivia.

To: The GF | Olivia
pls tell me ur going 2 this party.

Then the idea hit him. He'd be going to be seeing the same person who knew his secret, the only person who he'd ever experimented with sexually (in terms of the female gender). Eyes widening the boy, would begin to drive, gulping down a breath.

Olivia Ingram - location: bedroom - outfit

The bedroom was dim and quiet, save for the sound of consistent typing. Olivia sat in her desk chair, one leg tucked under her while the other one dangled and swayed rhythmically. She was looking at her computer screen, as she had been for the past three hours, doing various odd jobs and surveying the analytics of her and Naya's new video. This particular video had been one of her favorites, although she seemed to think that about every new video. Their content seemed to just keep getting better and better, and their fans were taking notice of that.
Olivia was thankful that she had this new venture to spend time on. She put so much time and thought into the videos, and she could tell that Naya felt the same way. It was comforting, having something that she would get to actually reap the profits of. Most of her work was sent away and she never really saw how it turned out. With this YouTube channel, she was able to see the daily growth of their channel, see how many people they made happy, and actually have fun while making the videos.
buzz buzz
Liv peeked down at her phone, slightly grinning at the two unanswered messages. This past year, Olivia had truly been working on her personal life, especially the balance between her 'real' and 'fake' lives. Although now she couldn't really tell which was real and which was fake. She replied to the two messages.

To: Cass/Honey Bunches of Oats
yes of course my darling. i'll see you there?

Olivia chuckled at her nickname for Cass. She called him by ridiculous couples pet names often, but some of the most common were darling, honey bunches of oats, or babydoll. They were always a joke, but to those who weren't aware of the situation they just looked like a gross lovey-dovey couple.

To: Naya/Chef Nay Nay
i think so too! i like the music, very catchy :P will you be at the arnault's party?

Olivia stood, realizing now was probably the time to be getting ready. She exited her room and headed to the bathroom that she shared with her parents. She curled her short hair and pinned a few pieces back, and threw on some shimmery shadow and red lips. The look gave her a very vintage, 50's vibe. It suited her style, so she walked back to her room and chose a dress that matched the look she was going for. Looking over herself in a mirror, she did a twirl and decided that she was happy with the look. The outfit as a whole gave her a youthful but classic look, something that she was proud of. It seemed to fit her personality. Olivia dressed modestly compared to those she went to school with. Knowing she wouldn't be able to explaini the outfit to her parents, she undressed and stuck the outfit in a dress bag, deciding that she would just pull over and change before she arrived.
Liv headed down the stairs with her dress bag and purse in tow, the smell of freshly ground coffee hitting her before she even reached the bottom step. "Mom, dad I'm heading over to Syd's for the evening! I might spend the niiight!" She threw out a random name as her coverup, and made eye contact with her mother before she left. Her mother only gave her a small nod, because Olivia knew all of the rules. Keep them updated. Make good choices. Remember who you are.
That last one always got to her. She never seemed to be able to keep it. Oh well, 2 out of 3 is better than none. Olivia hopped in her jeep, something she was immensley proud of. She didn't splurge often, but Liv had saved for years to be able to afford her own vehicle, and the fact that she was able to buy her own pretty white jeep was mind-blowing to her every single time she hopped into it. She kept it down the street from her parent's coffee shop, though, because she would never be able to explain to them how she was able to pay for it.

Stopping at a red light to send the quick text, he would sigh. It felt so odd to be talking to a female in such a manner. He felt like he was lying to himself. But his parents often checked his phone, to make sure he wasn't breaking any rules. So he kept it up like this. He didn't like the entire setup, but he had to make do. Noticing he had time, the male would pull his car up to a small Starbucks near the house, and park. Walking into the coffee shop, the ambiance was low-energy. People weren't really there. There was a skeleton crew of sorts, but he would shrug. He liked his coffee. "I'd like a venti mocha frappucino, with three shots of espresso,"
Cass requested.

The barista nodded and would give him his total, he handed her his card. His amber eyes looking around for a seat to sit down for a bit. He'd probably hang around here for the remaining amount of time he had to wait till the party. Absently thinking about the participants in tonight's events, Naya should be lucky Cass loved her enough to show him. For anyone else, he'd put it off with a lame excuse. But....his mother had been stressing him recently. All the small snippets of phone calls he heard, it placed him in an awkward place.

"Cass."

His name entered his ears, as he relinquished himself from his thoughts, he'd get up and get his drink. Taking a sip of the energy rushing goodness, before he took out his phone and sent a quick text to Naya.

Charlotte chiming in with specifics was needed because in all honesty, Naya had no idea what she wanted, she just wanted food. And, yes, surprisingly, a margarita as well. A small part of her brain immediately longed for chicken tenders and french fries, but that was easily stamped down by the proposal of tacos. Seeing as Charlotte handled making sure Adeline got her sandwich, Naya immediately felt that her job was done and headed to one of the chairs at the island, the one farthest away from Adeline. Out of all of Sydney Persson's friends, Adeline was the least intimidating and Naya has never been afraid of her. However, she wasn't going to test their already fragile standing with closer proximity and she eagerly let the girl's twin take the seat closest to her, while she herself took the farthest. It didn't take much for Naya to become a target, she realized, but she could at least somewhat distance herself from the line of fire. Besides, she finally looked at the text from Cas and smirked. She could almost see the betrayed expression on his face at her demands.

To: Cas
of course babe

Naya looked up just in time for Charlotte to turn to her, and Naya raised an unimpressed eyebrow at Charlotte's story about the summer. Naya had not exactly gone everywhere with the Arnaults during the summer. She had desperately wanted to spend her time with her grandparents and the rest of her family. Anyone else would have taken advantage of such a prestigious opportunity, possibly being able to travel out of the country and she definitely was going to want it, perhaps next summer of it was alright with Bernard. She also didn't want to be away from her family now that she was definitely not going to be seeing them much and then she wasn't trying to look like she was mooching off of the Arnault family wealth so early. In her head, it seemed realistic that people would automatically believe that Gigi was marrying into the family for money and that the monetary benefits of the marriage would go to Naya's head, but it turned her off to some degree. She didn't want this family for what they could give her; all of it was for Gigi and how ridiculously (and yes, Naya was a touch jealous) smitten she looked every time her eyes landed on her husband. The rumors and assumptions probably won't go away just because Naya chooses to distance herself, but for the first few months, Naya had decided to distance herself in the best way that she could for her own conscience. Her vlog was helped.

"Ummm...correction, you're usually craving trouble," Naya couldn't help but chime in, in jest, grinning at the brunette. "Besides, we both know I'm never going to be able to keep up with you, ever." While Naya frequently lamented that she had a low tolerance for alcohol, the truth was that she never challenged it or let it become better. She always knew her grandmother hated when she drank and even though her dad thought it amusing to let the kids take sips here and there to see who would pass out first (and yes, despite how normal they generally were, Naya came from a family of occasionally immature assholes), she had never really tried seeing if she could get herself to make it past a few drinks. She stayed away from hard liquor on most days and while the margarita wouldn't do her in, she had no doubt that following Charlotte's lead tonight would result in her probably getting plastered. And while a bigger part of her brain feared the idea of what she would do without her inhibitions - without self-control and discipline, which everyone knew her for - a smaller, louder part was anticipating it.

She should have known that Charlotte couldn't help being Charlotte and the warning came when Charlotte dragged out Simone's name. Naya watched as the older woman stiffened slightly and then she herself had to squawk at Charlotte pinning her own impatience on Naya. "Asshole," she hissed at the girl, though the fact that her mouth couldn't really frown around the amused smile bespoke her actual enjoyment of the overall situation. It was easy, in those moments, to pretend as if Adeline wasn't even there. Welcome, even. Naya didn't need a bad mood just before an event she was half anticipating, half dreading. Soon enough, drinks were placed in front of them and Naya rolled her eyes at Charlotte, but picked hers up anyway. Before bringing the glass to her lips, she made sure to thank Simone and then took a drink, setting the glass back down after she swallowed.

BRODY CALSON

Hex Code: #2D31DD
Outfit: Here, without the hat
The few experiences that Brody had taken the Long Island Railroad told him that it was even less reliable than the subways, and far more expensive. With that being said, he wasn't excited to take a two hour ride on it, but it was the cheapest way to get to Southampton from the city. Living in Manhattan meant that owning a car was impractical and expensive, so he didn't have a car of his own to drive there. Even if he did have one though, at sixteen years old, he only would have had a learning permit, and the rules that came with that made the commute from New York City to Southampton impossible with the bridges and tunnels you needed to pass through. Driving on his own wasn't an option, his family didn't have frivolous amounts of money to blow on airfare for such a short distance, and he wasn't willing to shell out hundreds of dollars in Uber fares, so the train was his best bet. With earphones in and good music playing, it went faster than he imagined it was going to, thankfully, and surprisingly, there were no delays and he ended up on the island sooner than he expected. Since he had planned ahead for issues, he ended up in Southampton with an hour or so to spare before the start of the party.

This wasn't Brody's first time on Long Island, or in the Hamptons. He typically made it out to the area a few times each summer, because he had friends whose families had enough money to own houses out there, and he appreciated the nice access that they gave him to the beach on good surfing days. While he was vaguely familiar with the area, he wasn't necessarily comfortable with it. He didn't stand out like a sore thumb because while his reputation wasn't clean, he didn't necessarily look like a dirtbag. He wasn't the type of person who sought attention or to stand out, and with an appearance like his, he actually fit in to the beach-like vibe that certain areas of the town possessed. However, he definitely didn't mesh well with the wealthy rich people vibe that the area infamously gave off. That was why he actually chose to duck into a Starbucks, rather than one of the small independent cafes that lined the streets, when he figured that an iced coffee with some caffeine would do him good. It seemed less pretentious than one of the independent shops that he was sure specialized in making artistic designs in the foam of their drinks, just so people could Instagram it.

He was surprised when he saw Castiel inside, picking up his order from the counter just as Brody walked in. Though he wasn't close to Castiel, and actually suspected that the guy held reservations about him, Brody didn't necessarily dislike him. He didn't think that they were any closer than they were, but he also didn't hold any bad blood towards the guy, like Castiel was beginning to towards him. Speaking of that, it was coincidental that just as Brody approached the guy, he was in the midst of texting Naya, the friend that was causing Cass to feel wary of him.

To: Naya
Touched down in ur neck of the woods. I get credit for not running late for once.

"What's good, bro? Glad to see I'm not the only one in need of a pick-me-up before this thing," Brody said, smiling and nodding to Castiel in a friendly manner as he passed him, just a short distance, to order his own drink. With his order placed, he headed back towards Castiel, "How the hell are you not sweating your balls off in an outfit like that?" he asked, eyeing the outfit Castiel was wearing. Inside of an air-conditioned place like this, it was actually appropriate temperature wise, but outside, Brody felt like he would melt in something like that. Then again, he was the type of person who was always hot. "You changing into white before you get there, or are you planning on making some sort of fashion statement in that?" he added with a smirk. He wasn't trying to be an ass, but more-so was curious and playful about it. He wasn't sure if Castiel would take it that way, though.

It was probably a good thing that Derek had paid for the fare to get to Long Island ahead of time as opposed to the day of. Already having a purchased one using eTix and having Naya text him, the latter of which he had known was going to happen regardless of if he followed through with his plans to come to the Arnault party or not, only solidified that he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. He didn't have money to just be wasting like a handful of his peers since The Long Island Railroad was no cheap ride, Naya would be disappointed even if she would get over it in a few hours, and he obviously didn't want to look like a punk...even if no one else had any clue why he would be looking like one just by showing up to a party.

To even try to convince himself that he wasn't attending the annual party, Derek had even neglected to find an all-white outfit ahead of time like he had done last week, opting out of the shopping trip Naya and his brother had both offered to accompany him on. It probably would've been a welcome distraction for Naya, given the frustrations she had expressed over her new family and the very new environment she was placed in, and it probably would have been fun. But Derek had made an excuse about homework he ended up procrastinating on and that had been that, and now he was here on a bus to where he had told himself he wasn't going to go, already dressed and all that. Derek had about an hour or so before he got to the stop, which was roughly the same amount of time it would take for the event to even take place, and in her last pitch the night before to convince him to come, Naya had declared that she would get Grace to pay for his Uber to the house. Which was why, instead of ignoring her text and pretending like he hadn't seen it, Derek sighed and proceeded to text her back, still in the group message that included Castiel.

To: Cas, Naya
bossy much? omw now

Contrary to what his aversion might seem like to an outsider, it wasn't that Derek didn't want to attend such a lavish event held by such a prestigious man as his family. Having one of his best friends be associated with the family was the biggest excuse to attend any and everything Derek happened to get an invitation to, not to mention the allure of free food, free drinks that he was definitely in the mood for at the moment, and the only price he had to pay was walking around and hoping that someone didn't try to stop him to ask about his background just so that they could see who was one of them and who wasn't. The issue was, and it was still something he had yet to tell his female friend for knowledge - not fear, because it was inevitable what her reaction would be - of that she'd give him one of those I-told-you-so-looks mixed with the right dose of pity, purposefully letting himself see Sydney Persson.

There was a difference between actively not having a choice in seeing a person because your lives were somewhat tangled, and then making the choice to be somewhere they were going to be, knowing that things were uncomfortable. At least on his part because Sydney was good at making people think she didn't care while Derek was pretty sure he'd be transparent as all hell. In truth, he didn't know how to be anything else. At school, it was easier to pretend like seeing Sydney from afar didn't make his stomach flutter with an emotion he didn't want to acknowledge or his heart drum a scant beat against his rib-cage when she just so happened to glance his way. At an event like this, one he could have avoided in order to get himself back under control and back to the reality where girls like Sydney did not get with guys in his social bracket, it felt infinitesimally harder despite knowing Sydney would do what she normally did and not even acknowledge him. It was his own fault for falling into bed repeatedly with a girl he knew wasn't going to let him get any closer than the already fragile friendship they had formed. Which was why, despite his reservations about talking about it, Derek sent another text to Naya, privately, while he tucked in for the rest of his long ride.

To: Naya
also we kinda need 2 talk

To: Liv, Cas
is it wrong dat im craving chicken strips n fries when theres food here??

When it came down to it, their family (not the Arnaults, not yet anyway) knew for a fact that it was Naya who was the more mature one between herself and Grace, despite the notable difference in age. Grace who made the worst remarks under her breath after each and every person they met, prompting Naya to struggle with not bursting into laughter in another billionaire's face. It was mortifying and she's probably chastised her aunt twenty times since the event had started, but Grace has been too busy ignoring her and continuing on with her playfulness (read: childishness). Luckily, Naya had been able to send something to her friends whom she had not seen just yet.

"But come on, was I lying?" Naya tried. She really did. She even gave the older woman a straight face. Grace only grinned, unperturbed and unrepentant. "His breath smelled like that time when we realized Rocky was lactose intolerant and we had to change his diaper after he ate ice cream."

"You mean when I had to change his diaper," Naya corrected her, arm still linked with her aunt's as they strolled along the side of the custom Gunite swimming pool and occupied chaise lounges. "You just stood in the hallway spraying air freshener - like that was even helping. And can you stop!? We're supposed to be serious." Grace snorted gracelessly, which was in direct contrast to the rather put together look she gave off while attached to her niece. It still baffled Naya how easily this woman she admired so much could be this amazing, strong, intelligent and passionate woman and also a crazy goofball at the same time.

"I am serious," Grace insisted and Naya shot her a dubious look. Grace shrugged and added, "I'm just seriously bored. And don't give me that look, Nomi. I do this," she gestured to the surrounding guests, a few of whom she exchanged brief smiles and waves with before returning her gaze to Naya, "on a regular basis at openings and talks. That doesn't mean I want to do it all day, every day." Naya feigned pity.

"You kinda signed up for all day, every day, Gigi."

"I know. Why the hell did I do that?" Grace inquired, pouting. Naya giggled before painting on a thinking face, shrugging a beat later.

"Something about love, maybe."

"Oh yeah."

A beat later and the two were giggling after an exchange of glances, bumping into one another as they walked. It was easy, at that moment, to not be plagued by the constant worries of looking like she didn't belong. Of being undoubtedly out of place and out of her element, and Naya was grateful. It probably helped that she had a flute of champagne after the margarita from earlier, but Naya didn't feel the fuzziness that came from too much alcohol. More like she was just loose enough to relax a little, but still retain her composure. One of them had to be, anyway, since Grace seemed to throw her composure away at will when she hadn't even ingested a glass of anything since the party had started.

"Uh oh," Grace exclaimed with a snicker and Naya followed her gaze. "Looks like you're gonna need to save Twin One." Which seemed like a bit of an accurate statement because the smile on Charlotte's face was beginning to look more and more plastic by the minute, and Naya winced because she knew Charlotte was trying to behave for her father's sake. She genuinely was. There hadn't been any incidents at all today, but she knew there would be if Charlotte wasn't freed from the company of Bernard Arnault and company. Sighing, Naya shot Grace a pleading look.

"Run interference for me?" Grace shot her a dirty grin.

"With pleasure."

After stealing two flutes of champagne from a passing server, Grace led Naya over to the small group. She shoved the two flutes into Naya's hands as they got closer, whispering at Naya's appalled face (because seriously, parental figures do not permit alcohol, people) that "it won't be your last and it definitely isn't your first, before saddling up behind her husband, wrapping slender arms around his trimmed waist and kissing his shoulder with her stain-free lipstick. Bernard flinched at the first contact, but once those hands pressed into his abdomen and he touched them, the straight and imposing line of his posture seemed to relax. Naya smiled softly at the expression on his face, but didn't linger on them for too long when Grace smooched his cheek. She bumped Charlotte with her hip just as Grace said, "I think Nomi's a little lonely. You don't mind if she steals Charlotte for a bit, do you, love?"

Naya didn't even pretend to decipher the look Bernard and Charlotte exchanged, but put on the most innocent smile she could when his gaze turned on her. Which probably was a good thing considering she wasn't planning on doing anything. Maybe holding two champagne flutes didn't help.

He felt bad about ignoring Brody, he really did, but he had a fear he was gonna be late. So he simply said a curt, sorry, and ran out to his car and drove to the Arnault home. Well, he didn't feel that bad. But he still felt bad, he'd hear it from Naya regardless.

Within the sea of white, a male with a blue sweater seemingly stood out. His whiskey-colored eyes scanning the room for someone he could talk too, he would shrug. He didn't hate social events, but he did hate the snooty people giving him disapproving look. So, he decided to be bold and not wear white. Sue him. It wasn't his schtick. He would look around the room, seeing some familiar faces. Some faces he'd rather not see. And some people who barely knew he existed. He would run a hand through his hair, thankfully feeling his phone's vibration receiving a text from Naya, in their group chat with Liv. With a quick motion, he would send a message.

TO: Liv, Naya
nah im wanting some quesadillas lmao, anyway, where ru? i'd like to not feel awkward af with all these people. babe wru @ also?

He would place his phone back into his pocket, and get a drink and begin to walk around the room, waiting for a pleasant interaction of some sorts.
