Love is the most powerful force on Earth, yet so many people find difficulty in actually falling in love, or at least in maintaining a stable relationship for longer than three months. There are also those who are simply unable to find someone they'd fit well with, for whatever reason. XX
It is for these specific people that the Matchmaker's Association exists. XX
The Matchmaker's Association - a worldwide organization that spread far too quickly - was created to help people find someone they would be able to maintain a fitting and full relationship with. Through a long set of complicated tests and evaluations, each member of the association is paired up with a match deemed suitable. And they are never wrong. XXX
Hitoshi and Mikaze are two childhood friends who have been hiding their feelings for each other much longer than they should. And, in an attempt to get over their hidden feelings, they both join the Matchmaker's Program in hopes of finding someone else to fill the hole. XX
But the Matchmaker's Association cannot be fooled, and the two are paired together, sent off to a quaint coastal village for a month to sort out their feelings and - hopefully - come home the perfect couple as well. XXX

Story Start

The Matchmaker's Association's Tokyo headquarters was a small, brick business building located in downtown Tokyo. The staff consists of about thirty romance-obsessed men and women who seem to have nothing better to do with their time than make couples out of random people. They did volunteer, of course, but that's beside the point.

The M.A. is famous for their ability to pair successful couples together based on the results of very detailed personality quizzes. According to the media, they've never been wrong, and even though that's lost certainly a false accusation, nearly anyone whose ever heard of the place believes they'll find their true love if they join.

Recently, the M.A. has had a large boost in business from the youths of Japan. However, this story does not speak of everyone involved, instead this story is to focus on four individuals who have enrolled in the Matchmaker Program. Soon enough, they'll be off to live with each other, stuck in a beachside condo for a month.

Maybe it won't be all bad...

Hitoshi didn't say anything as the other violinist and pianist passed them, exiting the stage and signaling that it was his and Mikaze's turn. He couldn't care less. At the moment, they were about to perform Beethoevn's Violin Sonata No. 9, Kreutzer. It was a complicated piece on its own, and it made it all the more complicated when they'd decided to do the version from an anime show instead of the original.

Hitoshi followed Mikaze to the middle of the stage and the two bowed to the audience, Hitoshi taking his seat at the piano and Mikaze beginning the song. The judges seemed to be extremely satisfied with the start of the song. Hitoshi couldn't help but smirk as the song took a drastic turn to be exactly how Kaori Miyazono had played it in the show. And it was a choice selection competition too, so the judges couldn't fail them for not following the original sheet music either!

After the 12-minute-long song ended, Mikaze received his applause, and the two boys bowed again before exiting the stage. Now they had to change and head off to the M.A. building where their bus would be waiting to take them to the beach.

"Is it just me, or does this whole 'matchmaker' thing sound really stupid?"

Hitoshi walked slightly behind Mikaze, digging his beanie out from his pocket and putting it on over his unnaturally straightened hair. He hated having to straighten it for concerts, but it definitely made him less recognizable, should anyone from their school attend any of the shows to see Mikaze's amazing violin playing.

"I just think its kinda creepy that they make couples out of random teenagers..."

Silence...

Zico stared up at his white ceiling, eyes hollow and without even the slightest hint of comprehension, though his mind was practically buzzing with activity. Thoughts raced around his mind like tiny little men trying to beat the traffic to get to work on time. Each one was fighting for space, but Zico could only bring himself to focus on what he had planned for the day, after school. He'd taken a long nap, mainly because he knew he was going to the beach, presumably with a group of other youths much like himself. All of them had signed up for the Matchmaker's Association, one way or another, and Zico knew he had to make a good impression on them. He didn't know who he'd be paired with, or how he'd even function after being put in that situation. So unbelievably awkward was this young gentleman that he'd probably just stammer awkwardly, and refuse to speak or communicate in any way. The thought alone was enough to bring a light shudder to his petite form.

I need to keep busy, he thought, as he had to practically heave his legs out from underneath his blanket. Sitting up on the side of the bed for a moment or two, he blinked away tears which were as a result from the sudden sunlight weighing down on him after spending a few hours in darkness, and then rubbed the sleep from between his eyelids and let out a half-yawn, half-squeak. He stood up shortly afterward, his baggy pyjamas - which he wore only because he wasn't permitted to wear regular clothes in his bed, or sleep naked - hung off of his slim body, almost giving the impression that he was completely shapeless - not far from the truth.

That morning, before school, Zico had taken extra care with his appearance. He'd showered for 10 minutes longer than what was considered normal - for him, of course - and scrubbed every inch of his body almost raw, until his skin was left pink and tender to the touch. Zico didn't mind this, however, as he'd much sooner have been clean and fresh than comfortable in any way. He knew he would have been uncomfortable either way, but it didn't hurt to make the attempt... Looking at his form in the mirror located on the inside of the door to his wardrobe, Zico let out a slow huff, almost as if the sight of himself had merely caused him to deflate; very, very slowly. He moved his hand with increasing hesitance to remove his pyjamas, before letting them drop to the floor, upon which point stepped forward a bit and skimmed the choice of clothing with the tips of his fingers, allowing them to ghost over the fabric as his mouth twitched; speaking the names of each item as he passed by them.

It wasn't until moments after he had finished getting ready - having put on his chosen outfit for the rest of the day - that he was called down for dinner. The voice belonged to his father, and Zico knew better than to dilly-dally when his father had anything to do with it. Moving immediately to the door, Zico was careful not to pound too hard on the floor as he walked; he wasn't supposed to be wearing his shoes in the house, but he was grateful for the fact that his father had not noticed as he lowered himself to the ground where his bowl was sat on the edge of the table. He didn't quite know what had been piled into his bowl, but he knew better than to question it.

More silence...

No one had uttered a word since he sat down, but he had heard low murmurs before he entered the room. It was clear that they were more nervous than he was. He could tell by the way they exchanged glances over the table. It soon became too much for Zico to tolerate. He ate quickly, said his goodbyes, and left shortly afterwards, taking his coat and scarf only for good measure. He slung both of them over his hooked arm, before starting off. No one had offered to drive him, and he didn't have spare change, so he'd have to walk.

Mikaze couldn't really know what else to do at the moment, rather than just keep silent and wishing that the best will come for both him and his best friend. This isn't the first time they've ever attended a competition, but it's just human nature to feel a little bit nervous before showing times, isn't it? In fact, Mikaze didn't really feel that nervous, since he has been practicing this piece of music with Hitoshi for as long as he can remember and he couldn't afford to mess up now. Waiting for their turn to going up the stage, he just took a deep breath and fix his formal suit that he was wearing a bit.

And then, the moments come as the other signaling that it was their turn. Mikaze held his violin and the bow firmly into his hands as both him and Hitoshi made their ways to the stage. It's time... He thought as both him and Hitoshi stood right in the middle of the stage and then bowed to the audience. After an applause, Mikaze held the bottom of the violin under his chin on his shoulder and closed his eyes as he placed the bow onto the strings and began the song. He's been practicing like crazy before, so even a complicated piece of music such as this is not a problem to him. Even though this version is not completely original, Mikaze has strong confidence that they will make it. And, it is good to try something new at times, isn't it? If they were to succeed in winning the audience's hearts, they have to believe in their strengths.

Both Mikaze and Hitoshi combined well with each other. Every note came from Hitoshi's piano blended well with the tune of Mikaze's piano. He's putting his best into it and he doesn't care if anyone was watching him closely. He only paid attention to play as passionately as he could. Twelve minutes passed in a blink of eye as he finished the piece in a graceful way. People applauded for him as Hitoshi then stood up and went besides him as they bowed to the audience once more. Now, all they have to do is to wait for their results afterward.

Getting to the backstage, Mikaze and Hitoshi had to changed into better attires before heading off to the Matchmaker Association's building, where they will receive their perspective match and being taken to the condo on the coast and spend a whole month there. Though he didn't talk anything about it yet, he's secretly quite looking forward to it. The fact that Hitoshi has also enrolled the program with him makes it a lot easier for Mikaze. They've never been separated before and even if they'd found their own matches, they will always be together for years to come in the future.

Hitoshi then spoke up and remarked on how stupid the Matchmaker thing sounds as he walked slightly behind him. Mikaze smiled as he replied, "Well, it might sound a bit absurd, if I had to admit. But on the bright side, I think it's more like a trip and it's going to be quite exciting, don't you think? Our parents really did put a lot of trust into it to so what else can we do rather than give it a try?"

Both of them then made their ways into the dressing rooms, where they get changed into their casual attires and gathered their belongings before exiting the Corporation. Standing before the entrance, Mikaze turned to Hitoshi, "So, which direction should we head to?"

β•šβ•

The very last bell of the day rang throughout the school, signalling that clubs were now over and the remaining students were supposed to go home. Umi was slumped over her desk, fast asleep, ignoring the world around her until a classmate's yelling brought her to reality. Umi hated yelling, to say the least, and wasn't too happy about waking up to the loud argument happening on the other side of the room.

Umi sat up and rubbed her eyes, looking at the clock to find that it was already five in the evening. She still had two hours before she had to be at the Matchmaker's Association, at seven, in order to be paired with another person and sent off to live with that person at a beach for a whole month. It was the beach she was most excited about. The sea was her favorite place, and her favorite thing about the trip.

Umi made her way home and finished the last of her packing, changing from her uniform into a light pink and blue sweater dress. Her parents had insisted on driving her there, and after a small dinner they hopped into the car and started on the way to the M.A. Headquarters. Umi's brother had even come from school to see her off.

As they parked in front of the building, Umi suddenly felt a twinge of nervousness swimming around in her stomach. What if there isn't someone out there for me? An encouraging thumbs up from her brother made the feeling fade away, and a determined Umi walked into the building and up to the reception desk.

"Um, I'm here for the Macthmaker's Program?"

The woman behind the desk asked for her name, and typed away on her computer when Umi gave it, then led her into another room, only one other person there.

"So, which direction should we head to?"

"Uh...downtown, apparently. Google Maps said the building is near that one playground kids always flock to." Hitoshi frowned at the card in his hand. It didn't even have their actual address on it, just the company name and a bunch of hearts. He wondered how anyone even found the place without getting completely lost.

At least he was out of the suit and tie, which was one of the few good things about this particular moment in time. And Mikaze would be going with him as well, so it wouldn't be all bad, right? Hitoshi still wasn't too excited about the ordeal.

Stepping out of the locker room, Hitoshi noticed that they were the only ones out there, probably because everyone else was still in the auditorium watching the rest of the show. He never really liked sticking around to watch the other competitors when he could be doing more important stuff with his time, like sleeping.

---

The building was tiny. So much tinier than he'd expected, it was small and made of the same, boring material as every other building in Tokyo. "This is so not what I was expecting..." Hitoshi groaned and looked up at his friend, smirking. "Maybe they'll be so bad we have to come right home or something~"

Inside, the woman at the reception desk practically dragged them into another room, where the other two participants had apparently been waiting for them.

Mikaze nodded to his best friend as he heard him said that the building where they're supposed to go is somewhere near a playground where they often came across to. Right now Mikaze has started to wonder if all of these things are really trustworthy after all. They all said that this association is popular worldwide, not just in Japan, but just looking at the postcard they gave them does gave off a rather... unprofessional feelings to it.

But after all, Mikaze has always learnt to retain his image so he couldn't bring himself to complain about anything. It's better to believe it what they're going to experience ahead of them since they both know that there's no turning back now. They mostly do this since their parents were so enthusiastic about all of it. From what he heard of his best friend, he doesn't know if Hitoshi really did have any interests in it after all. But for Mikaze, he was quite looking forward to see what's waiting for him. This time he just hope that it won't turn out like what has happened to him and his first date.

Shaking all of his thoughts off for now, Mikaze followed Hitoshi to the building. And at the first sight, Hitoshi has quickly gave a comment about how plain it is compare to his expectation. Mikaze just shrugged, "Well, who knows? Maybe they couldn't found better accommodation. For some reasons I had a feeling that the building where we're going to stay for the next month will be like that of those hot springs. If that's the case then I don't really have any problems."

As they walked in, they were soon be dragged into a room of sort where there are two others participants who were also waiting until they begin their journey. Sitting down at the chairs on the opposite of them, both of them waited patiently until there are any other news. Perhaps this is the time when they'll get to know who will be their match. While still focusing on Hitoshi, Mikaze couldn't help but take a quick glance at the black-haired boy who was sitting on the opposite of him. Maybe that will be his partner?

Moments later, the exact same woman who pulled them into the room walked in and was about to announce the couple that they've matched. Mikaze took a deep breath and waiting for the results.

But little did he know that his match will be someone who he has never expected...

Z I C O

As Zico stood in the doorway to the Matchmaker's Association building, the first thing he became aware of was that there was practically no one around, leading him to initially believe that he was the only one to have turned up; he hoped that the others would turn up soon, if they were even going to bother at all. He didn't think he could face the awkwardness of having no one to pair up with, and being refused the Matchmaker's services altogether due to lack of interest. The thought alone caused his fingers to responsively curl around the fabric of his coat, before he shook his head slowly, taking a breath. I'm overthinking this, he repeated in his mind, as if to mentally scold himself.

Willing his feet to move, he pressed forward into the building, his sweaty palms leaving a mark on the cold glass of the door as he pushed it open, and he looked around for something to wipe his feet on for a second; when he found a mat, he scraped each foot against it twice, before his eyes found the reception desk, and he pushed forward once more, still clutching onto his coat in a way that he found almost comforting in such times of worry, anticipation and - oddly enough - excitement. All was quiet inside the building, which he did not find surprising in the slightest, and he soon found himself caught under the gaze of the receptionist, who seemed to be waiting patiently for him to speak. Clearing his throat slightly, he raised his chin. "Excuse me," he started, his voice only audible due to the silence that surrounded him. "I'm here for the, uh, Matchmaker thing..." Despite his awkwardness, the receptionist seemed to understand, and she simply lead him to an empty room, where he was allowed to take a seat and wait.

It was a long while, it seemed, before Zico became aware of any real movement outside of the door. His eyes had previously been drawn to the clock, watching the slow passage of time. The long silence and lack of lip movement had caused a thin seal of whatever it was to form over his mouth, only broken when he released a slow, steady huff of breath. His eyes snapped away from the clock when the door handle turned, and soon afterwards a girl was brought in. She looked very young, but she must have been of sufficient age to be involved in such an organisation as this. Once again, Zico mentally scolded himself for making a snap judgement, and forced himself to his feet, though he dared not take a step too close to her. "Hello," he said simply, offering a subtle bow, before he returned to his seat without another word.

Only two other people turned up after that, seemingly haven arrived at the exact same time. As they walked into the room, Zico pushed himself up from his seat, and offered another bow with a murmured greeting, but he quickly shied away from all other forms of communication, lowering himself back into his chair without meeting anyone else's gaze. However, whilst he may not have been staring at them, he did take notice of their genders. Three males, and only one girl. This sparked an instant sense of dread, mainly because there was the very sudden chance that he'd be paired with another male; this, of course, would have been terribly awkward and impossible because he didn't feel that way about other boys. At least, not that he knew. But there could also have been the chance that Zico had been paired with the girl, and that those two boys who had only recently entered were instead a pair. As he turned the possibilities over in his mind, Zico had barely noticed that he'd chewed the inside of his cheek raw, noticeable not just by the pinch of lost skin but the blood he could taste. His nose crinkled.

One more person, but this time it was not another youth like himself but an adult, most likely come to explain their situation and/or to announce the future couples. And, despite that he'd wanted to find out, there was an obvious sense of fear pooling deep in his stomach, and he felt himself shuddering under the pressure of not knowing. Looking up, he murmured yet another hello, but this time he could not find the strength within his legs to be able to stand. I must look so impolite...

"Hello."

The boy in front of Umiko bowed politely, and she returned his bow, not sure what else to do. "H-Hello." After that, it was quite a while before anyone else showed up. When someone else did show up, it was two boys, which made Umi wonder how things would transpire if she was the only girl. It made her nervous and she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. This whole Matchmaker ordeal was making her uneasy.

Hitoshi didn't say anything to the boy and girl who were in the room. He didn't really want to, at least not until he had to. Both of them looked uncomfortable, and they obviously didn't feel like talking, so he figured he might as well leave them be for the time being. Hardly a minute passed before the creepy receptionist returned.

"It looks like you four were the only ones to actually show up, so the trip with be just this group, and as such your pairs have been determined. For now, the couples are as follows: Takayashi Zico with Aoi Umiko, and Koizumi Hitoshi with Shirahoshi Mikaze. You'll be given about five minutes before the bus leaves, so I suggest you hurry up, or you'll be left behind."

And with that, she left, leaving them to their business.

The first thing Hitoshi did was blush, bright red in fact, which was a new thing for him considering his delinquent status. "Eh...??? That's all you're going to tell us??!" He was pissed, embarrassed, and terribly uncomfortable all at the same time. Umiko stood, fiddling with her fingers, and bowed slowly to Zico. "Please treat me well!"

Umi picked up her suitcase and smiled to him brightly, walking out towards where the bus was waiting, a small skip in her step. She didn't feel upset anymore, for some reason. Hitoshi, on the other hand, was about to flip his shit. Before he could blow up on anyone, he grabbed his stuff and stormed out to the bus with Umiko, not wanting to deal with anything and shooting the receptionist a glare as he passed. The bus was nice and he took a seat in the back, waiting for Mikaze.

Mikaze took a deep breath and secretly crossed his fingers to wait for the results. He doesn't know why, but somehow this feel just as nervous as when he was about to perform on the stage. Everything will turned out alright... He said to himself before turning his gaze back to his best friend. At least he can rest assure that no matter what the results will turn out, there's someone who'll always be there with him and they can went this through together.

And there's the results, which caused everybody to startled to no end...

Mikaze, although has already prepared himself mentally, couldn't helped but blinked in surprise. "E... Eh?!" He blushed like crazy upon hearing the fact that he was paired with his best friend. But although as surprised as he was, he still retained a certain amount of calmness as he heard Hitoshi yelled at the secretary before gathering his stuffs and stormed out of the room and headed for the bus that was waiting to take them to the condo near the beach where they will be staying for the next month.

"Hitoshi-kun..." Mikaze called for his best friend but he's quickly stormed out of the room before he could even say anything. The girl named Umiko has also seemingly followed his steps and both of them probably was walking out to the bus now, which left only Mikaze and Zico in the room. Sighing, Mikaze took a deep breath while sat back and gathered his thought for a short moment. This was a bit too much to take in at once.

It is true that Mikaze couldn't deny the fact that his feelings for Hitoshi were always there. They were the reasons why his first boyfriend broke up with him in the first place. But he's never really fantasized on how would it turn out if he and Hitoshi were to going out with each other, after all the things they've gone through together as kids and up to now. How will they suppose to react when being near with each other from now on? But it is not his feelings that Mikaze was worried about. All those happy memories alongside him, he doesn't want them all to just shatter into pieces. Although a part of him secretly did wish that they'll become something more, Mikaze doesn't want to lose what he was having now.

Sighing again, Mikaze gathered his stuffs and put on his backpack than standing up. "Nice to meet you, Zico-san. I hope we're going to get along in the next month." He said to the other boy respectfully before headed off to the bus. Going into the bus, he took a seat on the bench next to Hitoshi's. He couldn't bring himself to say anything, but what can he possibly said to his best friend now? He secretly glanced at Hitoshi for a couple of times but quickly fixed his gaze away the moment his eyes met with Hitoshi's. Mikaze stared out of the the window without even notice that he was still blushing all the time. He hoped that they'd get going soon.

The first thing that Zico felt as the pairings were announced was relief; almost like being washed in cold water after a long, hot day. However, his almost wary expression had not even twitched into one which mirrored his true feelings. Instead, he continued to stare, unmoving, until his eyes finally scanned over the hat-wearing lad of a similar age to himself. Zico took notice of how flustered he had become, and it was his assumption that the boy had not been expecting that, but the reason was to remain unknown. Zico had always found himself being uncomfortable around agitated or angered people, and so he quickly turned his head, as if the mere fact that he was looking would make the unfamiliar boy lunge across the room.

As the girl beside him, who he now knew as Umiko, stood from her seated position, so did he. He turned his entire body to her, and gave a small nod at her words. "Of course," he replied, watching her in silence as she continued out of the door, followed by the other boy. He was alone then, with only one other of his own age stood in the room with him. Zico said nothing, and was half tempted to follow the other two to the bus, when he heard a voice, and his head turned slowly in the other lad's direction. Once more, Zico offered a smile, and returned the bow. "I'm sure we will!" he said, trying at enthusiasm; he had an odd feeling that it might not have come across as well as he'd intended, but he stuck with it as his smile widened. This one seemed calmer, and easier to get along with. A stark contrast to the hat-wearing one who, if he remembered correctly, was Hitoshi. That meant that the one exiting the room was Mikaze. Nodding - almost proudly - to himself, he too left the room and found his way to the bus, where there were obviously quite a few seats empty. This, he put it down to, was most likely because they'd overestimated how many people would actually turn up.

At the time, he thought it was only appropriate for him to take a seat next to his assigned partner, so he sat down almost sheepishly beside her. He could feel his cheeks warming upon the realisation that he had not asked beforehand, and so he turned his head to her, a subtle frown pulling his brows together to form a crease between them, and brought a finger to brush his chin. "I hope it's okay that I'm sitting next to you," he started, but didn't really know where to head after that. "I can move..."

Hitoshi stared out the window next to him, barely moving an inch when he felt Mikaze sit beside him. What the hell was with this shit? Why was his face all hot? Why did he feel so comfortably uncomfortable? All of it was annoying him.

After a couple of minutes he decided that he wasn't going to ignore his best friend. Looking up, he frowned and pretended the blush wasn't there. "Question: what do we do now that we're paired together romantically?" He asked, hoping the sarcasm wasn't obvious. "Because I have no idea how this is supposed to work out."

He wasn't lying, he didn't know anything about romance. He hadn't even expected someone to be paired with him, he'd assumed his test would be faulty and he'd get kicked out. He didn't know anything at all about romance or even liking someone.

So, right now, Hitoshi was completely clueless to his own feelings and the feelings of everyone around him. "So...what are we supposed to do at the beach for a month? They didn't really tell us anything except where the damn house is..."

"...I think signing up for this Matchmaker program was a bad idea from the start..."

Hitoshi sighed loudly and leaned back in his seat, staring at the ceiling of the bus for a moment before smirking slightly. "Well, at least I got put with someone I know. I don't think I'd be able to put up with this shit for a month if I didn't have you here."

He could feel his face get hot again and he ignored it. It wasn't a lie, he wouldn't have even signed up in the first place if Mikaze hadn't volunteered to join him.

'I hope it's okay that I'm sitting next to you, I can move."

Umiko registered that Zico had sat beside her and she moved her suitcase under the seat, so as to make more room, before looking back up at him and smiling wide. "No, please! I don't mind~" She actually felt better with someone next to her, spending the entire trip by herself would have been boring in the extremes.

Reaching over to her side bag, Umi pulled out a box of green tea-flavored Pocky and started to gnaw on one. "Would you like any? Its an odd flavor, but its not bad or anything." She turned the box in his direction and continued slowly gnawing on the one she had in her mouth. "It'd be a longer long trip without any snacks~"

Looking back behind her, she could tell that the two other boys - Hitoshi and Mikaze, if her memory wasn't broken - weren't talking, or even looking at each other for that matter. She hoped that their obvious friendship hadn't been ruined.

Umi turned back to Zico and sighed lightly. She wasn't uncomfortable, nor was she embarrassed, and she wondered why. Why was he the one blushing and not her? After all, wasn't it always the girl who got pink blushies in TV shows? Her thoughts were scrambled around and she just about forgot Zico was beside her.

"Well, I guess if we're going to be partners for a month, maybe we should learn a bit about each other. After all, we have about an hour before we get to the beach."

Umi smiled again, this time more enthusiastic. She was excited to learn about this boy who sat beside her, and she was excited to learn more about herself as well.

Mikaze still stayed silent while averting his gaze away, even though it was clearly that his best friend was sitting right next to him. He still didn't know what to say or how to strike a conversation. Everything happens just like that and he wasn't really prepared himself both physically and mentally for this situation. Who could have thought that the results could turned out that way? All Mikaze did was the entrance quiz that the Association gave him when he signed up for the program. He didn't know how would they match couples base on such a trivial quiz.

He did try to muster his courage to speak up with his best friend, but anytime he tried to open his mouth to talk anything, he just quickly shut it right away. He is blushing as much as Hitoshi does. Perhaps he just doesn't know if anything he said right then would affect whatever has been building up between the two of them. Mikaze is the calmer one between the two of them after all, so it is his habits to always think twice before commenting on anything.

They fell into the awkward silence for a bit more, until Hitoshi finally decided to speak up, which startled Mikaze a bit as he turned his attention to his best friend. The shorter boy asked what should they do for now that they were paired romantically together. "W-Well, I was asking the same question myself, heh..." Mikaze scratches his face as he tried to put up a rather unconvincing smile. "Things happened so fast that I couldn't really think straight so I think I'm as clueless as you are."

Then, Hitoshi proceeded to ask what will they do at the beach for the next month and that the idea of signing up for the program was a bad idea after all. And that he was grateful that he still got Mikaze besides him, which is also the reason why he accepted this offer. Mikaze smiled lightly. His best friend can be brash and violent at times, but they've been together for as long as they remember, so it is not surprising that they would understand each other even with just the smallest acts. While it is true that at first, he joined because his mother has encouraged him to, and that he might be able to move on after his first love shattered, it wouldn't be any comfortable if his best friend wasn't there either, so he was glad that they still have each other to rely on no matter what the results had turned out to be.

"I think they're going to have us dating with each other and doing things that normal couples usually do, if I was thinking right..." Mikaze said while trying to recount what he's done with his first boyfriend during their dating time. Let's see, holding hand, eating together, hanging out somewhere both can feel comfortable, watching movies together, hugging, kissing and-

A very impure thought has just crossed Mikaze's mind...

His face is already red, now has become even more reddened at the thought of both of them doing the thing-everybody-knows. Quickly slapped his face with both of his hands, Mikaze shook that thought off his head immediately. He's been reading too much yaoi. There's absolutely no chance that it would come true, or at least, not now. He shouldn't get carried away.

"A-Anyway, I think we probably should just be normal as ever, eh? It's not like that they can force us to act like an official couple if we didn't feel comfortable doing so... Everything's going to be fine, I hope. We've been through a lot already, right?" Mikaze said while smiling assuredly.

He quietly sighed before gazing at the other couple for a second. It seems they did get along well with each other already, though it is obvious that awkwardness is still staining the air. Things would be easier if it was to be with someone whom you've never met before, isn't it?

In the meantime, the bus is still on the run as they should be able to get closer to their destination within hours. For now, all that everyone can do is to wait and anticipate what is going to come.

"Ah, I just remember something." Mikaze said while taking out his MP3 player and the earbuds, plugging the buds into the device. Putting one of the bud for himself and the other for Hitoshi, he switched to a song. This is something they normally do whenever they taking up new pieces of music so there's no reason to be awkward about it - or at least, that is what Mikaze thought, "I've just managed to find this song the other day and I think that it's nice. Should we... try to practice and play it sometimes?"

Zico watched the smile spreading across Umiko's face as she looked at him, and it brought a flush to his cheeks that he had only just managed to cool down. She had such a charming smile, he thought, and it was in that moment that he reflected upon how lucky he was to have been paired with someone so likeable. He could only hope she would hold high opinions of him; this entire deal was of great importance, both to Zico and his family. Mostly the latter, truth be told. "Thank you!" he replied, as he finally felt comfortable enough to lean his back against the seat, but he was still somewhat tense.

As Umiko began to rummage around in her bag, Zico turned his head away from her and to the view out of the window on the opposite side of the bus. Watching the scenery pass by was something he often did whilst travelling in vehicles. It helped to take his mind off the things going on around him, but he tried his best to listen out for any voices or abrupt movement; he didn't want to seem like he wasn't interested in Umiko. And so, when she spoke up once more, he turned back to her with a subtle smile on his features, his eyes setting on the box. He was hesitant to take one, after seeing the flavour, but when she commented on how long the trip was going to be, he found himself reaching for the box. With nimble fingers, he managed to slide one out with ease and lifted it to his mouth, murmuring a 'thank you' in her direction before nibbling on the end. She was right with regards to it not being terrible, but it still wasn't much to his liking. Still, he finished it out of courtesy.

Zico, of course, was very much interested in getting to know Umiko. When she suggested it, he nodded along, his hands falling into his lap as he cleared his throat lightly. He felt slightly off about talking for an entire hour. How could he possibly find that many things to say? It was almost suddenly that he start feeling pressured, and a little bit too hot to be any kind of comfortable. "Yes, of course. I agree," he continued. In his own body, it felt as if his smiles were now strained, but he didn't know whether Umiko had picked up on it, so he continued to talk. "If this pairing is to be successful, it would be better for us to establish the basic information as soon as possible."

He took a long pause. "I could try to tell you about myself... but there isn't much to say, really." Lifting a hand, he began to twirl some locks of around his finger, his eyes shifting to the ground. Another habit, but one which only really came about when he found himself feeling rather nervous, or when he had the sudden urge to get up and leave but was trying his hardest to suppress it. Besides, he was on a bus, what could he do? Throw himself out of it? "I'm afraid I'm not very interesting," he stammered, "sorry."

"Wrong!"

Umi didn't care how loud she was being, and she made a pouty face at Zico the minute she heard him speak. "Never ever say you're not interesting or cool or anything else! Its bad for your self-esteem!" With a smile, Umi laughed lightly. "Besides, I already like you, so there's no point in pushing me away~"

She sat back in her seat and started gnawing on another piece of Pocky. "Since you don't seem too comfortable with talking, I won't make you go first. Lets see...well, I live with my parents and my older brother Haruka. We don't have any pets because Haru-nii is allergic, and I go to Sakagawa Senior High which is a very fancy school."

It wasn't very important stuff, but she figured it'd be best to start simple and not overwhelm the poor guy right from the get-go. She liked him, this quiet boy named Zico, and didn't want to scare him off or make him close up. A lot of people would stop opening up when she tried to talk to them about the things she loved.

"I don't want to be pushy, so you don't have to say too much if it makes you uncomfortable. Most people don't really like talking to me because I'm so loud and blunt, so I can understand if you don't want to either." Umi's bright smile didn't show how much it hurt her that the words she'd said were completely true.

Umi closed up the box of Pocky and shoved it back into her bag. She didn't offer any more to Zico, she could already tell he hadn't liked them, which she didn't mind. She had odd preferences when it came to food and she wasn't about to go around guilting people into eating things if they didn't want to. That was considered rude.

"I think they're going to have us dating with each other and doing things that normal couples usually do, if I'm thinking right..."

Hitoshi stopped his rambling for a moment, trying to imagine what people did on dates. He'd never once had a romantic encounter and could only think of the obvious: kissing and sex. The latter of which he seriously doubted would ever happen, nor did he really want to happen. Or think about, for that matter.

From the corner of his eye, he could see that Mikaze was blushing again, and in the back of his mind wondered why. It didn't really matter, everything about this predicament could make a person blush like crazy. Examples being just about everyone on the bus, except probably the driver. But who knows?

His attention popping back to Mikaze's words, Hitoshi agreed that the two should remain acting the way they always did, and smiled at the thought of everything they'd been through. Mikaze was right - there were a lot of memories.

"I've just managed to find this song the other day and I think that it's nice. Should we... try to practice and play it sometimes?"

The song was pretty, and it sounded familiar, though Hitoshi couldn't put his finger on it. He'd probably heard someone else play it before. "Yeah, sure! I think the pamphlet mentioned that the beach house would have a piano, and I already know you brought your violin, so we should be able to practice at some point while we're here." Hitoshi wondered if the others would mind them playing music.

Both Mikaze and Hitoshi listened to the piece of music through Mikaze's earbuds for a few moments. As the melody went on, Mikaze kept thinking about the whole ordeal ahead of both him and his best friend. He keeps asking himself whether if everything's going to be alright. He already said that they can always acted normally like they always did and pretend like this whole trip is just a normal school trip where they can have fun together as friends. He had a feeling that he has been asking himself the same questions over and over again, only to be even more confusing of what will come when the day is over. But perhaps, it's time to just let things go on naturally like the way it was. Everything he cares of is still within his reach, so Mikaze didn't think that he had to worried about anything for now.

And then, Hitoshi commented on the piece of music and that there should be a piano somewhere in the condo where they will be staying so they would be able to practice. Mikaze nodded, "Yeah, I've brought my violin with me. And since there were only four of us, I don't think the others would mind, really. We should just practice like we normally did. I also searched for the sheets and have printed them already. I'll give you yours later when we arrive."

With that said, Mikaze fixed his gaze outside of the window as the scenery kept passing them, but since it's already dark so they couldn't see much rather than the streetlights on their way. Both of them didn't say much with each other for the rest of the trip as they just listened to whatever songs that were played on Mikaze's player. He also shared some snacks that he brought along for the trip with Hitoshi. Other than that, things seemingly were quite calm although awkwardness is still staining in the air.

After a couple of another hours, they finally have reached the beach house.

Mikaze could already hear the sound of waves and the mild salty atmosphere people can always feel at the beach. As the vehicle slowly stopped at the entrance of the house, Mikaze grabbed his belongings and headed down first. Standing in front of the house, he took an examining glance over the house. It was pretty much like those houses at the springs where he used to visit with Hitoshi before. It was quite a nice place if looking from the outside and he'll probably have quite a good time here. Mikaze stood still and waited for the others to get off the coach.

Well, I think it'd be alright to assume that Quierdo's gotten a bit too busy. I don't want to overwhelm them with having to keep up with this storyline so perhaps it would work out as a One X One between the last two of us?

"Sounds good."

Hitoshi was relieved when they finally made it to their destination. From the outside, the beach house looked like a giant hot spring as apposed to someone's home. He grabbed his stuff as the bus slowed to a stop and followed Mikaze to the gates, the bus simply driving away as soon as they got off. "Well, looks like they're not going to give us any instructions, considering they just abandoned us. Did they even give you a map of the area?" Hitoshi opened the gate and started toward the house.

"This place is in pretty good shape. They probably have someone come here every day to care for the garden or something." The entire front yard of the place was green as yards could get, with flowers and shrubs and trees in perfect condition.

Hitoshi slipped off his shoes at the steps and made his way into the house, finding little signs with arrows attached to the wall. "I guess that means no one else is gonna be here to show us around or anything." Smirking slightly, he looked back to Mikaze. "If no one else is around, we get the place all to ourselves, right?"

Following the signs on the wall, Hitoshi ventured down the surprisingly long hallway and found two identical bedrooms right next to each other. He dragged his suitcase into one of the rooms and sat down on top of it. "Mikaze, do you wanna have separate rooms or share one? The rules said it didn't matter, so..."

Hitoshi blushed lightly and figured Mikaze probably was as well. Why? It wasn't like they hadn't shared a room before, so why did the thought make them so flustered?

Standing in front of the house, Mikaze took a more carefully look around its exterior. Though he wouldn't say that this place was the top-class luxurious like all the 5-stars resorts and hot springs he used to visit before both him and his mother moved out of their former house and leaded a more average life in the middle of the city, it's the first time he got to stay at such a nice place like this for quite a long time already. Moreover than that, they got this whole place for themselves for the next month to come with no presences of their parents. How freer Mikaze could ever wished for?

Moments later, Hitoshi stepped off the bus. As soon as he got off it, it went away. The shorter boy then walked up to Mikaze before stating that the ones at the Association just going to abandoned them without giving them any real instructions on what to do and asked if Mikaze got a map of the whole place or something. Mikaze just smiled unconvincingly while replying to Hitoshi as his best friend proceeded to open the gate into the house, "I think there are going to be at least some signs or anything like that around to show us where and where. It's not like that this house is that big anyway so I don't think we'll get lost."

Entering the house, Mikaze looked around with a bit of an amusing expression on his face, considering the fact that the plants and trees around here were in perfect condition, showing that they really were taken care of by someone with a green thumb. "Yeah, it doesn't look like a scrumpy place like I originally thought it was. It's pretty cool, if I must say myself."

Mikaze also slipped his shoes off as both of them made their ways into the house. And indeed, like what Mikaze has presumed, there were some signs to show them places around the house. Then, Hitoshi commented on the fact that there were no one there to show them around and that they got the whole place for themselves, "It's better than having our parents or some of the so called 'grown-ups' here nagging us, isn't it?" Mikaze chuckled.

With that said, both of them made their ways towards some empty rooms at the end of a long hall. Putting his suitcase down, Hitoshi proceeded to sit down on it before asking if he wanted to sleep in separate rooms or share one. His face then reddened again at his best friend's question. "W-Well..." Mikaze tried to put up a grin while scratching his face. It's true that they've agreed to act normal like they always did and it's not like they've never slept over at each other's houses before. They both are aware that the only reason why they said that the participants couldn't share their rooms with each other without permissions is to prevent a-certain-of-stuffs to happen. No one wanted to increase population unintendedly, after all.

But both of them are guys so something like that obviously won't happen. Besides, even if there would be some developments between them, Mikaze didn't think that anything pervy is going to be on their to-do-lists for the time being. So there aren't any reasons not to share a room together. The two of them are probably the only ones at the house currently anyway. "Sure, I don't think why I we shouldn't share a room. What could possibly happen, anyway?" Mikaze shrugged as he went inside and put his backpack in the corner. He went to the other room and brought the futon into the room where they were saying.

When everything's finished, Mikaze turned to Hitoshi, "Hitoshi-kun, if I remember correctly then they did have a hot spring somewhere in the other side of the house so I'm going there to take a bath. You should come along too. I'll find something to make us some dinner after that. What do you say?"

Though he would never say it out loud, Hitoshi felt a bit more comfortable since Mikaze had agreed to the idea of sharing a room. The only other place besides his home he'd ever stayed at was Mikaze's house, and contrary to what would be expected, he wasn't feeling too excited about sleeping away from home.

However, that problem was solved and so Hitoshi brought his attention to Mikaze's suggestion. "Sure, a hot spring sounds good. And yeah, you should probably cook, since I can't worth shit..." Hitoshi wasn't keen on burning the place down.

Sinking to the floor he opened up his suitcase and dug around for his swim trunks, ignoring the whole naked-men-hot-spring idea. He figured there would probably be towels there and so he stood, following Mikaze out of the room and searching the walls for a sign to point them in the right direction. He quickly found one.

"The sign says the hot springs are that way." He pointed down the hall and frowned slightly, still stuck in the memory of almost blowing up his kitchen a few years back. Meanwhile, his best friend Mikaze was an absolutely amazing cook...

Hitoshi's thoughts suddenly veered from his cooking fails to the fact they were going to a hot spring, which made a multitude of anime scenes pop into his head. He felt his face growing red and he instantly regretted ever having watched any and all of them. Every single hot spring or bath scene he could think of included some sort of romantic or sexual encounter and now they were all swimming around his thoughts, along with the extreme embarrassment he was suddenly feeling.

Mikaze smiled while scratching the back of his head. This situation was pretty much like the old days when they're still just kids. Though back then, they were still oh-so-innocent. But now, Mikaze hasn't really figure out how to feel, or how should he reacted yet. Should he desperately tried to keep them the way they are, or just accepted it and just let it flows? Either way, he just wanted to be next to Hitoshi. He doesn't want to lose anyone who is important to him anymore. At least for now, he probably should just enjoy what they were offered.

He chuckled a bit at the sight of Hitoshi finding his swimming trunk. Though Mikaze understands the reasons why, he couldn't help but find it a little funny for a second. "Let's go then." He remarked as both of them left the room while trying to find the direction of the hot spring. It's been a while since he last gone to one though so he could only imagine how relaxing and comfortable it is being able to immerse himself in the stream of hot water after a long trip. This is just the beginning and who knows what surprises will they got to see tomorrow?

While they were walking, Mikaze thought about the remark of his best friend that he couldn't really cook and almost blow up the kitchen once, in which made him giggling again. It's true that Hitoshi should refrain making any steps into the kitchen though. Though he didn't want to tease his best friend, the results might be real catastrophic though. "I'm pretty sure you must have improved even just a little since then. It's not like you're going to ever serve any burn cupcakes, right?"

For a second, Mikaze felt as if he's totally forget about all of this ordeal and just get on with it. He's well-aware that he must have read about the scene where two boys taking a bath together at first and then it slowly becoming something more indecent somewhere in one of gus yaoi mangas collection. As being stated for a hundred time already, it's not like that both of them are willing to do anything 'over-intimate' with each other. Perhaps it just because that both of their over-imaginative minds are just typical as those who are teenagers. But, should anything really happen, maybe Mikaze wouldn't feel entirely embarrassing. Unlike Hitoshi, he dated someone before so let's just say that he is somewhat 'experienced'.

As they reached the entrance to the hot spring, there were a couple of dressing room. In front of each room, there was a round, wooden barrel. "We can just leave our clothes in these barrels, I think someone will do the laundry for us." Mikaze said before walking into a dressing room. He stripped and wrapped a medium-sized towel around his waist. When he's finished, he took another towel and hung it on his shoulder before carrying his clothes and walked out of the room.

Putting his clothes into the barrel, Mikaze then waited until Hitoshi finished. When his best friend stepped out, both of them made their ways into the spring.

Stretching his arms, Mikaze pleasantly commented, "Man, it was even better than I thought." He stepped down of the steps and approached the pool while turning his back to face Hitoshi with a grin, "You know, this actually reminds me of-"

The ground was slippery, and before he even noticed it, he tripped with his back about to land into the pool. Shutting his eyes, Mikaze could only waited for what will happen next.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion. Mikaze slipped, falling backwards. On instinct Hitoshi reached out to grab his friend's wrist, but the weight simply dragged him along, and both boys crashed into the bath. Popping out of the water, Hitoshi coughed and watched Mikaze resurface. "Oi, are you hurt anywhere?"

After it was confirmed that neither of them were injured, he leaned back on the wall of the bath and sighed loudly, embarrassed slightly at his concerns. "You should be more careful when walking in slippery places, you could've seriously hurt yourself."

Hitoshi tried to ignore all the images going through his head that showed other outcomes to the incident, none of which were at all something he would ever wish for. His entire life would be ruined if something ever happened to Mikaze, he was the only person he had left, considering his family completely ignored him.

"Hey...this is kinda random, but what do you think would happen if I simply never went back home? If I moved in with you or something and just left home?"

It was a serious question, but suddenly Hitoshi found himself regretting saying it out loud, since it probably wasn't the most cheerful thing to have his best friend worrying about. "I mean, my dad probably wouldn't even notice me disappear, and my brothers all ignore me anyways. Is that normal for a family?"

Hitoshi turned around so his arms were on the floor of the room, his head resting on top of them. He couldn't really figure out why these thoughts had suddenly sprung up in his mind, but they had, and at a rather bad time too.

As Mikaze almost fell into the bath, Hitoshi has managed to grab him by his wrist but unfortunately he pulled both of them to crash into it instead. Having his back hit the boiling water is definitely not pleasant at all. Hitoshi has seemingly popped his head up first though Mikaze stayed underwater for a few seconds before resurfacing himself.

"Ow..." Mikaze rubbed his back a little while frowning a bit. He then smiled unconvincingly at his best friend question before scratching his now soaked head, "I...I'm good. Don't worry. I'm just being a little air-headed so..."

He said but couldn't hide that his whole face his as red as a tomato again for the uncountable time of the day already. Whether if it is because of the heat in the bath or for some other reasons is unclear. But of course, the fact that this scene has turned out to be like some sort of romance manga hadn't failed to cross his mind either. And it could only worsen his embarrassment.

He sunk his face deep to his nose and breathed out bubbles to gather his thoughts for a bit, before leaning next to Hitoshi, "Yeah, I'm always careful, am I not? It's just that... I was a bit distracted by... a certain of things that are happening right now, you know, hehe..." He said while grinning in a really uncool way.

Both of them stayed silent for a couple of minutes later. Mikaze has to admitted that because of this all happens so suddenly that he's just become a lot more sensitive over small details like this. But... it wasn't entirely as bad. He's feeling almost like when he just started going out with his first date. And then, he was a little taken aback by Hitoshi's sudden question on what would happen should he never comes back and moving in to stay with him instead. While he's still figure out what to reply, his best friend then went on explaining the reason why he said that.

Letting out a sigh, Mikaze punched Hitoshi lightly before chuckling, "It'd be nice if we can stay together, I have to admit. Though I won't be completely certain that my mom is going to approve, heh. You did know that like as long as the time you have to live without the presence of your mom, I haven't had a 'dad' for more than a decade now. I'm also the only son anyway."

Squeezing the other towel in the water, Mikaze then hung it over his head, "Look, I didn't tell you to just throw all the conflicts between you and your folks at home out of the window. Whether if I'm daydreaming or not, I still think that surely at least one of them really is looking out for you, although secretly." He then paused a bit before continuing, "Actually, I came across with Akio-san once and he told me some stuffs like 'thank you for looking after our little bro' and things like that. So, it doesn't really hurt to just make a believer, does it? But just rest assure that I'm here for you and I won't be going anywhere." Mikaze smiled brightly but his face is of course visibly red.

They stayed in the hot spring bath for a while. When they're completely refreshed and cleaned, Mikaze stood up, "Let's get ourselves dried up before we become boiled chicken. I'm a little starving already."

Hitoshi was surprised that his brother has confronted Mikaze and thanked him for that. His brothers were almost never around, and even when they were they never had enough time to even say hello. If it had been anyone else he wouldn't have believed it, but he knew Mikaze wouldn't lie to him about something so important.

"Let's get ourselves dried up before we become boiled chicken. I'm a little starving already."

Mikaze started getting out of the bath and Hitoshi followed, secretly excited to watch his friend cook. Somehow he found it interesting despite his own lack of ability. "Do you think they stock the fridge? Or are we gonna have to go get groceries or something?" He wondered aloud, slowly drying himself off.

Hitoshi changed quickly and followed Mikaze back to the kitchen. He didn't say much as his mind was preoccupied with a multitude of questions. The Matchmaker's Association had given them less than two sentences to explain everything about their trip, and almost no directions on how they were meant to survive there for a month. It was frustrating, to say the very least.

But he knew they would figure it out somehow. Hitoshi sat on the floor of the kitchen doorway and silently went over his thoughts in his head. He was still wondering about the whole 'dating' thing, how was that going to happen? Neither of them knew any of the places in this town, and with no instructions whatsoever, Hitoshi couldn't think of what they were really supposed to do.

Mikaze made his way into the dressing room after walking out of the bath. Standing inside, he couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. He doesn't understand why the atmosphere has just turned all awkward all of a sudden. His face hasn't stopped reddened yet and the temperature is still seemingly to be quite high around here, despite the weather was quite cool outside. Just for a day and suddenly he has to flustered up like he has never before. He knows he should be the one to keep calm but how could anybody in a situation like this?

Slapping his face with both of his hands, Mikaze told himself to keep it together, because what is supposed to happen will happen, no matter how much they tried to deny it. He quickly dried himself up before dressing up in a yukata that was hang inside the room. When he's finished, he got out and waited for Hitoshi, until the latter finished cleaning himself up. His best friend then asked him whether if the fridge in the kitchen is stocked, or they have to go out and buy some groceries for dinner.

"Well, I've taken a look at the kitchen earlier. Looks like it really was the only modernize place around here and there are seemingly enough ingredients for me to make us something already so no worries." Mikaze replied with a chuckle as both of them headed for the kitchen. Though it was seemingly that there were a lot of questions going on in their minds, as both of them probably still confused of what to do in the meantime, without anyone to show them which directions to go.

Shaking his head, Mikaze knows that he should just let things be the way it was. Perhaps the Association wanted their couples to work things out by themselves, without having any instructions at all. That maybe why they were allowed to have this house all for themselves in the first place. So whether if they're dating or not, they should be able to find something to do soon, probably.

While Hitoshi was sitting on the doorway to wait for dinner, Mikaze rolled up his sleeves and took a look around the kitchen to see what the house got to offered. There was enough ingredients to make some onigiris and tonkatsu. He took out all the things he needed and started to work on their dinner. About half an hour later, he put the onigiris onto a wooden plate and the tonkatsu into another one while spraying some home-made sauce on it. And voila, their dinner is finished.

"I'm done, Hitoshi-kun. Let's dig in." Mikaze told his best friend as he set the dishes out on the table, "I think we probably should plan what to do tomorrow, hmm?"

Nice smells and warmth filled the kitchen as Mikaze cooked, giving the room a homey feeling that really only Hitoshi and maybe Mikaze's mother had ever experienced. Soon enough, the food was done. "Yes! Food!" Hitoshi eagerly followed his friend to the table and sat down across from him.

"Itadakimasu!"

Hitoshi listened to Mikaze speak, eating at the same time, and replying as soon as he'd swallowed. "I agree. Only problem is, we don't know any of the places in this town, so we can't really plan anything unless its in the house. Anything else would just have to be spontaneous, I guess." The food was amazing, as was expected.

"We do have a lot of options. Exploring the town, swimming at the beach, practicing for the upcoming concert, etc. etc. Plus, I saw some sort of park while we were on the bus, maybe there's something to do there. Or its just pretty."

With a smile, Hitoshi finished his food rather quickly, and stood to wash his dishes. He continued to conversation from the kitchen. "You know, we could just sleep all day and save ourselves the trouble of trying to find something to do." He laughed lightly and put away his now very clean dishes before returning to his seat.

"I was kidding about the sleeping thing, I know that's probably counterproductive to the point of us being sent here." The thought brought a light blush back to his face. "I mean, its not like you can get anything done in your sleep..."

Mikaze chuckled as his best friend squeaked in excitement just right after he finished making their dinner. He knows how bad Hitoshi is when it comes to food and cooking so you can say that one of the best way to win his best friend's heart is through the stomach, like they always say. Mikaze was quite happy that there's something that he could do to make someone important to him happy, to proves that he wasn't just some weaklings who can only sit in a corner while waiting to be protected. A shoulder for someone to lean on, perhaps?

As Hitoshi sat down and began to dig in, Mikaze also took an onigiri and slowly gobbled it away while keeping the conversation going between them, "This is a town near the sea after all so we can go for a swim, hmm? Though my last experience with the sea isn't really pleasant, heh. I don't really fancy being burned again. Though if you really wanted to then I guess we should be able to find something to do."

Listening to Hitoshi suggested ideas of what they can do for the time being, Mikaze nodded, "That sounds good. We have a whole month ahead of us so we don't have to rush things. Let's make a to-do-list and we'll figure out things that we can do to at least make this trip a memorable one. Doesn't it sound good?" He grinned, "I think there's going to be a festival of sort here next week too. It's going to be fun."

Then, they went on to finish their meal with Hitoshi then proceeded with the washing-up. Mikaze couldn't help but secretly gazing at his best friend for some short moments, with his face reddened a bit. Somehow, those carefree moments of Hitoshi made his heart went all 'doki doki' for reasons that he couldn't even understand. Slapping his face again, Mikaze kept reminded himself not to let his over-imaginative mind going too wild. This is his best friend he's talking about, not those normal models he usually fantasize himself with.

Hitoshi laughed lightly as he jokingly suggested that they should just sleep all day without really doing anything, which Mikaze just chuckled, "Sure, that is also an option, if you're too lazy to do anything at all." Then he sat down while reassured that it was only a joke, "I know already. Though it was nice that we didn't have to wake up early in the morning for now, don't you think?"

"Well, I guess we can figure out what to do tomorrow." Mikaze stood up and stretched his arms, "Do you want to just go and sleep now or have any better things to do?"

It's okay :D Have fun with your camping then, I'll be waiting patiently :)

Hitoshi laughed at Mikaze's question. "No, I don't have anything better to do. Lets go." Standing, he made his way back to the bedroom and flopped dramatically onto his futon, shoving his face into the fabric and sighing. "Its been only a couple hours and I'm already starting to like this whole fall-in-love-vacation thing. I mean, we get an entire month to do literally anything we want to, no rules whatsoever."

Sitting back up, Hitoshi grinned and looked back at Mikaze. "We should do every single thing that we wouldn't be allowed to do back at home!"

For him, it was a lot more than expected, and though he'd broken many rules in the past, his father was a rather intimidating man and after a while he found that breaking the rules wasn't worth the punishments that came after. His father wasn't abusive, no, but most definitely strict. "It doesn't matter as long as we don't do anything too dangerous or illegal, especially since my dad doesn't pay attention."

Hitoshi pulled off his hat and crawled under the covers. For some reason, he felt more at home than when he was in his own home. He figured it was probably the building, since it had so much more character than the large house he lived in.

"I'm going to sleep. Good night."

Silently, he waited for the traffic jam of thoughts swimming in his head to sort itself out and go away. It wasn't too long before he was out cold, somehow he'd ended up exhausted (it was probably the hot spring) without doing hardly anything.

Mikaze chuckled at Hitoshi's statement. Well it's true after all. Since things probably didn't go so well like how the Association has planned to be, now they're going to have all of this place for themselves. Which means, they have more freedom than they've ever had before for the next month to come. It's not like they've never been to trips like this before, but most of them are school trips and all so there of course are still a lot of restrictions and regulations. Mikaze wasn't too much of a rebellious person, but who could possibly deny that they didn't enjoy their freedom to the fullest without laws to chain them down?

"Well, that's true. It'd be boring if we have to go through a whole month by ourselves though." Mikaze said before stretching his arms, "If you said so then let's settle down for now. We can come up with whatever we can do tomorrow." With that said, both of them made their way back to their room.

He admitted that he was also a little tired too. Taking that hot spring was a good idea. He hasn't got a chance to tense his muscles for quite some while due to the fact that both of their schedules are kinda... thick. But he can get all the relaxation to his heart's content now.

As soon as they've reached the room, Hitoshi flopped himself down onto the futon before commenting on how this trip has turned out to be better than what he has thought it to be. In which Mikaze just grinned in return, "I know, right? Though this town probably didn't really have all sorts of place we usually hang out, I think we can figure out somewhere to keep us busy. At least we got to keep our minds away from all the school works and performances for now."

He then stripped himself off his yukata as he changed into a more casual attire. While he was putting on his shirt, he heard Hitoshi grinned to him and said that they should try and do all sorts of thing they were forbid to do back at home. "That doesn't sound bad. Though I'd prefer that you didn't do anything too rash. We've made all the way here and I couldn't afford to patch you up like when we're back home, eh?"

Unlike Hitoshi's father, Mikaze's mom isn't very strict with all the rules and things since he has always been a well-behaved child. But he knows his best friend wasn't so lucky so of course he knows that Hitoshi would be more thrilled than anyone now that they've got a chance to do whatever they like. He wasn't really sure what is his best friend is up to, but if it doesn't really dangerous then why couldn't he just follow him?

When he's finished changing, Hitoshi said that he's going to sleep in crawled into his sheet before saying good night. Mikaze giggled before replying, "Good night." He said before turning off the light and laid himself down on his own futon. Many things are still swimming around his head, but pretty much like Hitoshi, he doesn't have a drop of strength left to think all about them so soon enough, he fell into his slumber. And that ended a long day which was only the beginning of their trip.

By the time Hitoshi woke up, the sun was already blaring in through the open doorway and the birds were so loud he wondered how he hadn't woken up earlier. He sat up and realized he'd ended up laying completely sideways on his futon with the covers flung to the other side of the room. Typical sleep pattern for him.

From what he could tell, Mikaze hadn't woken up yet, so Hitoshi stood and dressed quickly before slipping out of the room. Normally he would've woken his friend up in some odd way but this time he felt it would be better to let the guy sleep.

"There's not really a whole lot to do in here..."

Hitoshi wandered around the house a bit and discovered that there were hardly any activities you could do by yourself. There was chess, go, tennis, and other games, but all of them were made for two or more people. In the end, he found his way back to the bedroom and pulled out his phone, googling the song Mikaze had shown him on the bus ride and putting in his headphones to listen to it while he waited.

He was almost halfway through the song when he remembered the piano he'd noticed earlier. Standing again, he quietly exited the room and once again found the room with the piano, sitting down in front of it and replaying the song.

The sound of the music would probably wake Mikaze up, but it was definitely a better way to be woken up than the times he'd had water dumped on him or pebbles stacked around his bed. Hitoshi had always been one for odd pranks.

Mikaze didn't know whether if it was due to his exhaustion last night or not but it seems the night has quickly passed and dawn had approached. It almost felt like the sun is already at its peak for now as the sunlight blared through the traditional-styled window and beamed on his face, making him flinched a little. A habit of Mikaze is that if he didn't have to go to school then he'll sleep in for about an hour or two later than the time he was supposed to up to prepare for school, so he crawled deeper into the futon and covered his head with the blanket, plugging his ears off the chirping of the birds outside. But soon enough, he was woken up by something else.

The sound of a piano echoes through the hall and made its way into their room. This confirmed that his best friend has risen up and already started to play the first piece of music of the day. Sitting up on his futon, Mikaze stretched his arms while rubbing his eyes a little. He's secretly a little relieved that he wasn't be woken up by some sort of pranks by Hitoshi. While he didn't really nag his best friend about it, sometimes it does get a bit irritating. He still remembered the time when he opened his eyes after his sleep and almost passed out because of a fake mouse Hitoshi put under his blanket.

Looking by the side, Mikaze could see that the other blanket somehow has flown to the other side of the room, while the futon was a bit messy. He shrugged. It was typical of Hitoshi after all. He stood up and folded both his and Hitoshi's blankets and futons neatly before stepping out of the room and headed towards the source of the melody. Just as he's found Hitoshi is when the tune ended.

"Already awake? That's new." He chuckled and gave the other a comment. "So I guess you've already caught the tune by ear, huh? I'll get some practice on my part sometimes later too."

Scratching the back of his head, Mikaze turned his back and was about to head towards the bathroom, "I'll go and wash my face and make ourselves some breakfast. Tag along if you want."

With that said, he made his way into the bathroom. On his way, he could see that his and Hitoshi's clothes from yesterday were washed and hung outside of the ground outside. Apparently someone has taken care of the chores while they're still sleeping. Well, it was nice that they didn't have to do any cleaning around the house though since that would take forever. Mikaze did some personal hygiene and went to the kitchen.

There's still some white rice left over from last night so Mikaze heated it up by the microwave. He then proceeded to make some miso soup and fried some beef and placed them on the table, waiting until Hitoshi come. He was wondering what should they do for today.

By the time Mikaze wandered into the room, Hitoshi had almost completely memorized the song, and was enjoying it quite a lot. "Maybe I should wake up first all the time!" He said, laughing and turning off the music. Mikaze headed off to the bathroom and Hitoshi stood, making his way back to the bedroom and putting his phone back into his suitcase before returning to the dining room to wait.

In a way, he felt bad about his complete inability to cook, since it meant other people always had to do it for him. But he also knew that if he attempted to cook something he'd either destroy the kitchen or create a simply inedible substance.

Soon enough he could hear Mikaze moving around in the kitchen, and not long after the room smelled like beef and miso. "Hey Mikaze, do you think maybe I should take a cooking class or something? It seems kind of sad that I'll never be able to cook my own food..." Hitoshi asked, leaning his head on the table.

"I mean, someday I'm gonna be living by myself without anyone to cook for me, and then what am I supposed to do?"

Laughing lightly, Hitoshi watched Mikaze move the food from the kitchen to the table. "Itadakimasu!"

Hitoshi started eating and it didn't take very long for him to finish, idle chatter ensuing. As soon as he was done he washed his dishes and returned to the dining room, dramatically flopping on the floor and sighing loudly.

As Mikaze sat back and waited for Hitoshi, he tapped his index finger on the table while leaning his chin against his palm. In his mind, lines of thought had begun to fill it up again. He was wondering on what should both of them do today since it was such a nice day. They couldn't possibly stay in the house for the whole day and laze around like that, could they? There's plenty of things to do so Mikaze couldn't really figure out what to do first. Perhaps his best friend would come up with something since he's always been the soul of the party.

Soon enough, Hitoshi emerged from the entrance and sat down and suddenly asked Mikaze whether if he should take up a cooking class or something. And that one day when he had to live all by himself, then how could he get on. Mikaze blinked for a second before bursting out chuckling, "Feel free to do so. But have you forgotten the last time when you told me to teach you how to bake cupcakes? And no worries, it's not like that I can leave you alone for a minute so you don't have to worry that you'll be starved."

Mikaze held the chopstick and then clasped his hands, "Itadakimasu." He said before started to dig in. Not only did whoever was in charge of the house did take care of the chores, they also filled the cupboards and the refrigerator with all sorts of ingredients and food that is enough for them to last for a whole week. I could really get used to this.. Mikaze secretly thought.

Both of them finished their meal quite fast and exchange a few chats. Well, this is basically everyday of them, they've already known almost all about each other, so what's there to talk about? It's not like they can stay up all night and have some girly-confiding time. After everything that has happened yesterday, Mikaze still felt somewhat a little bit... sudden. He couldn't really figure out what is it that his heart really want right now.

Shaking his head all of those thoughts, Mikaze turned to his best friend, who's just flopped down on the floor and sighed rather heavily, "Well, we certainly aren't going to stay around this house for the rest of such a beautiful day like this, are we? What do you wanna do?"

"Well, we certainly aren't going to stay around this house for the rest of such a beautiful day like this, are we? What do you wanna do?"

Hitoshi sat up when Mikaze spoke, scratching the side of his head in thought. "Y'know, I probably should've thought about that more. I didn't go over a single option before we got here on what to do, so I have absolutely no idea. To be honest though, if we're together, we could do just about anything and it'd still be fun..."

He didn't realize how romantic his words sounded until after he said them, and a light blush crossed his face, eyes staring down at his hands.

"Well, since I can't think of anything, what do you wanna do?"

In his head he prayed Mikaze wouldn't notice the nature of what he'd previously said, even though Hitoshi knew he probably would. Fidgeting restlessly in his seat, Hitoshi leaned his head on his arms and tried to think about something they could do together that wouldn't be considered date material.

It wasn't that he wouldn't be up for a date, but he knew that they would both be too awkward to say anything if that type of situation occurred.

Shopping is a date thing, eating out is a date thing...but its all stuff we do together on a regular basis anyway, so why would it be awkward? Maybe I'm overreacting...

Mikaze chuckled at the statement of his best friend. Well, a lot of things certainly had happened when they come here and they're clueless of what are they going to do since no one is going to give them any instructions, perhaps they were thinking that since they both are going to become couple or something, they gotta figure out what are they going to do with each other by themselves. Mikaze was thinking back to what he was doing with his first boyfriend, but quickly shook them out of his head, knowing that the same couldn't be applied in this situation.

Then, Mikaze replied with a shrug, "I don't really know what I wanted to do right now either. We used to go to karaoke or hanging out at the game center back in town, right? Though I doubt we could find anything like them around here so we should figure something out."

He stretched his arms, "Well, I guess we should go to the beach if you want. I can think up something else later. Maybe going to the market or something like that. Who knows if we could even make a friend or two?"

"I think the beach would be fun, but to be honest it might be better to explore the town now, as opposed to the evening when everyone's out on the street crowding up the place. I mean, its not like I'm not scared or anything, but I don't fancy the idea of getting separated from you in a town I've never been to before."

Hitoshi blushed lightly and stared at a scratch in the tabletop. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that the few times he'd gotten lost were utterly traumatizing - and almost all of those times it had been Mikaze who found him.

Needless to say, Hitoshi didn't want it to happen again.

"I think beaches look cooler at night. Do you think it'd be too cold to go at night though? I didn't really think to pack a warm coat or anything..."

Man, I didn't really think this trip out at all... Hoitoshi thought, mentally scolding himself for coming so unprepared. It was mid-spring, so he didn't think it would get too cold, but the coast always seemed to get colder at night than the city did.

He spent another small bit of time thinking about other things they could do. Mikaze was probably right about the town not having an arcade, the town seemed more like a work town than a tourist attraction, though they might have Karaoke somewhere. It was odd not having anything to do. Back home, it seemed like they were never resting, always on the move with a destination and a goal to meet.

Now they had absolutely no ideas and Hitoshi was already bored out of his mind.

Mikaze listened to his best friend and nodded with a chuckle, "Well, I was thinking that this is a town near the sea after all, so I thought that you're gonna like going to the beach. I saw that you really did enjoy it in our last trip, remember? But if you say so then I have no objections either."

Then he stared off in surprise a bit upon listening to the rest of his sentence then burst out laughing a little, "I didn't mean anything, but you shouldn't freak out anytime you're lost sight of your acquaintances." Mikaze teased a little.

He then leaned against the chair, "So, going around sightseeing and then going to the market, huh? Not too bad for the first day. I'm pretty sure that this town isn't that old-fashioned and all so I suppose we can find something city-like in here too. Like a bookstore or something. I haven't bought the weekly magazine this week so I hope there is." Mikaze began to list out whatever was on his mind about their plans on that day.

Hitoshi then asked if they could go to the beach at night and whether if it was too cold, Mikaze shrugged, "Well, I don't think that it's going to be too cold so a coat wouldn't be that necessary. We could buy some fireworks too."

Mikaze then stretched his arms before yawning, "Staying around here isn't going to help us figure out anything else so just get outta here first. You coming?"

With that said, both of them get out of the kitchen and proceeded to walk into town. Luckily for them, there was a map of the town left behind for them so at least they're not going around in circle or got lost in a middle of nowhere. "Let's go see around a bit, 'kay?" Mikaze grinned as both of them trailed their ways on the street without much haste. "Say, wanna have some barbecue tonight? I can buy some meat."

Hitoshi followed close behind Mikaze as the two exited the house and made their way to the town's main road. Stores and vendors lined the street and there were people scattered here and there, buying things or talking to one another.

"Barbecue sounds great, but if we buy meat we should buy it when we're on our way back so we don't have to worry about it going bad during the day."

Eyeing the different shops, Hitoshi searched for something of interest. Idle chat moved back and forth between the two boys. Hitoshi pointed out a couple of sports to Mikaze - a library/bookstore, a Cat Cafe, and signs pointing in the direction of a park. Hitoshi figured it'd be nicer to let Mikaze decide where to go first.

"Hey...what do you think it'd be like if we dated like they want us to?"

Staring at the ground in front of him, Hitoshi asked the question quietly while trying to pretend he wasn't red in the face. He was curious, after all, they'd come here for a reason. He figured they should at least talk about it before their month was up.

In a way, he was comfortable with the idea of dating Mikaze. Hitoshi had known the boy since they were grade schoolers, and they'd even seen each other naked before, so there wasn't a whole lot that could be considered 'new'.

"Y'know, if you wanted to go out, I wouldn't really mind..."

Hitoshi felt the heat in his cheeks. It wasn't even a lie, yet he couldn't help but blush.

Both of them lazed about the streets of the town while having a nice conversation like they always did with each other. It was nice that they could be free to enjoy moments like these without anyone to look after or nagging about them and tell them what to do. Mikaze is still in the process of thinking what else could they possibly in the upcoming days. And whether if any unforgettable memories are going to be made here too. Just coming up with all of the thoughts really did excite him already. He's been a goody two shoes forever and finally this is the time for him to do whatever he likes.

"Yeah, I agree. I'm going to buy some honey and other stuffs to make the sauce too. It's been a while since we did have a barbecue together." Mikaze chuckled, "Hope that my skills are not getting rusty."

As they continued with their idle chatting, Hitoshi kept on pointing different places of interest which are quite the same as back in the city where they usually hang out. It was nice knowing that this town is not too remote to not having such nice places too. It seems that the more they learned about this town, the more interesting it becomes. Mikaze secretly was glad that he did take this trip here with his best friend.

As both of them are still walking, suddenly Hitoshi stopped and stared death at the ground. "What's wrong, Hitoshi-ku-" Mikaze asked before realized that his best friend's face is reddened, pretty much like yesterday. And before he could finished his sentence, Hitoshi suddenly asked him what'd it be like if they were to go out with each other.

Hitoshi's sudden question took Mikaze aback, he instinctively took a short step back while blushing like crazy again. "W-Well, I..." Mikaze started to stutter while he tried to put all the pieces together. It is true that both of them had done all sorts of things together, some of which are even things that you're not supposed to do when both are just friends. And though not directly, Hitoshi is one of the few reasons why Mikaze broke up with his first date too...

...So it isn't really that bad if they were to try and give it a chance, right?

After averting his gaze for a while, Mikaze turned back to his best friend, still blushing. He then replied in the manner that is almost as if he's whispering, "I-If you don't have any problems with it... then... I don't mind if we give it a try..."

Then right after that, Mikaze put up a rather unconvincing laugh with his face still red as a tomato, "A-Anyway, I want to try the cafΓ© we've just came across. Let's go." He said before turning his back and run towards the direction of the cafΓ© they passed through earlier. He's not used to sudden surprises like this so he needed a few moment to calm himself.

Hitoshi let out the breath he'd been holding and followed after Mikaze. Upon entering the cafe, Hitoshi was immediately hit by the overwhelming smell of cats and coffee. There were a surprising amount of people in the place and he would've noticed it had he not been completely immersed in his thoughts.

He didn't pay much attention to his surroundings until the waitress asked them what they wanted. Hitoshi didn't bother to look at the menu and simply asked for water, not really being hungry since they'd only eaten breakfast a short while prior.

"So what are we gonna do then? I mean, if we're both perfectly fine with dating, shouldn't we do something date-like? What do you even do on a date, anyways?"

Though he wouldn't admit it, Hitoshi was at a total loss in this situation. Mikaze was the only one with dating experience and Hitoshi couldn't think up a romantic gesture to save his life, automatically making him the submissive partner.

"Y'know, I never once even thought about dating someone else. I've never confessed to liking someone, never gone out with someone, never been asked out, nothing. Therefore I'm completely useless when it comes to anything involving love...shouldn't that be weird for someone my age?"

Hitoshi never took his eyes off the table the entire time he spoke, concentrating on the subtle patterns of the wood as he failed to control his wandering thoughts.

Standing in front of the cafΓ©'s entrance, Mikaze stopped for a moment to quickly gather his thoughts. He's known Hitoshi long enough to almost be completely certain that his best friend wouldn't be much of someone who would take the initiative, no matter how bold and fearless he might be. But the fact that he's just asked Mikaze out like that really did surprise him. I'd never have thought... He said to himself. But what's even stranger is that he... actually find this to be quite pleasant.

When Hitoshi has caught up with him, both of them entered the cafΓ©. And of course, the very moment he entered, he was astonished by all the cats around the store. His soft spot for cute things began to rise up once again, but he snapped out of it and went to a table nearby along with Hitoshi. It's not like that he's never been to a cat cafΓ© before, but you know, for someone who always fall for cutie little things like Mikaze, this is the heaven.

While his best friend ordered only a cup of water, Mikaze asked for a cup of cappuccino. It's been a while since he last had some caffeine so it's nice to drink a cup of it. And both of them fell into an awkward silence once again, until Hitoshi spoke up and asked. And it feels like Mikaze could only feel more and more embarrassing every minute. But it's naturally for his best friend to ask so, since as long as he remembered, Hitoshi has never taken a real serious liking towards anyone. And most of the time the one he'd hang out around the most is probably Mikaze himself.

Shaking his head, Mikaze looked up to his best friend, "Well, aren't we dating right now? Like... don't you think that all the stuffs we do when there are only two of us are pretty much like a dating couple already? I mean, back then all I did with my ex are exactly like what we always do..."

Suddenly, a small, white cat jumped up and sat itself down on Mikaze's lap. Smiling a little while petting the little kitten, Mikaze set focused his gaze onto the little fur ball, but he still listened to what Hitoshi got to say, "Yeah, I know. But there's a lot of people out there who are constantly complaining why are they 'forever alone' or something like that so I didn't think you're alone. But... we both can figure something out, right?" Mikaze looked up and tried to smile.

He didn't notice that they're slowly becoming the center of attention in the cafΓ©.

Mikaze was right, it was pretty much like they were already dating, especially when considering what people considered 'dating' to even be. Hitoshi's face continued to get hotter and hotter as he listened intently to his friend's words.

"Yeah...I guess so..."

Looking up, Hitoshi suddenly wanted to disappear into the ground as he noticed that all eyes in the small Cafe were trained on them. Out of sheer embarrassment he shoved his face into the tabletop in an attempt to hide from all the people around them. He could feel their eyes on him and groaned inwardly.

"Why do people always have to be so interested in someone else's business?"

Hitoshi watched as several cats gathered around his chair, staring down at them and trying to distract himself from the conversation. He didn't want to talk any more about it if all these people would be there pretending it was public entertainment.

Several minutes passed by in silence and Hitoshi couldn't find anything decent to say, despite the fact it was his best friend he was talking to and not some stranger he'd just met. He found himself becoming absorbed in his thoughts. Why wasn't anything turning out the way it did in anime? Sure, he felt embarrassed and uncomfortable, but was it from Mikaze or the people staring at them? His face was red and his heart was beating fast, but wasn't it just from stress?

"Mikaze...I don't know what's happening to me anymore..."

Just as Hitoshi has finished his sentence, the realization that they're now the center of attention suddenly hit Mikaze. Rolling his eyes around, he could see all sorts of curious looks on almost everyone were headed towards their direction. Oh god... he said to himself as his face become even more reddened. All the things he was trying to say to his best friend went blank all of the sudden because of all these nosing looks. Upon seeing them like that, some people who are better-mannered set their gazes away or getting on with their business, but some still seemed to be very interested in their conversations.

We need to get outta here... Mikaze took a deep breath as he finished his drink in a gulp. He then proceeded to put some money for his drink and Hitoshi's before standing up. "Let's go, Hitoshi-kun." Mikaze said to his best friend as he took him by his sleeve and pulled them out of the CafΓ© while trying to ignore all other gazes from everyone. He took Hitoshi to the park where did come across earlier.

The park was not very big, but there's a lot of trees and flowers. The atmosphere is also really refreshing and calm. And luckily, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of people here. Mikaze let out a sigh of relief as both of them sat down at a bench near a flower garden. "At least we're not going to be bugged here." Mikaze said with a smile, but seeing Hitoshi's face again, he couldn't help but flustered again.

"A-Anyway, where was I?" He continued on where he left, "I was kinda like that back then when I first going out with my ex too, so I suppose that... it's normal to feel that way?"

Pretty much like his best friend right now, Mikaze didn't really has a clue of how he should feel, or react in this situation.

Hitoshi felt calmer once they were out of the Cafe and away from the staring eyes of all those strangers. Letting out a sigh, he took a seat next to Mikaze, breathing in the familiar scents of pollen and grass. Definitely much calmer here than the Cafe.

Listening to his friend speak, Hitoshi started to notice that he, for some reason, didn't like how many times Mikaze had mentioned his ex-boyfriend during the conversation, though he wouldn't say it out loud. He didn't even know why he didn't like the fact, so he decided to keep it to himself until further notice.

"I guess it would be pretty normal, but its still new for me. At least you have some experience with dating, I hardly even have the guts to admit my feelings..."

Hitoshi focused his gaze on the ground in front of him and wondered if Mikaze would understand the subtle message. Hitoshi was a horrible liar, but he also had trouble being upfront, which wasn't much help in this situation.

So if I say I'm in love with him...does that mean I'm mistaking close friendship for love, or am I mistaking love for close friendship...? Maybe both? Or neither...

Hitoshi quickly became absorbed in his thoughts, trying to decide what everything meant while also not wanting to ask Mikaze about it, since it would mean admitting something. Not that it really mattered, he'd pretty much asked the guy out already.

"So if we're dating...does that mean we're gonna hold hands wherever we go and stuff? I mean, holding your hand everywhere means I won't get lost, so..."

"I-Is that so..." Mikaze said with a flustered smiled while scratching the side of his face, his gaze still dead on the ground. If it was something as simple as sending love letters or something, perhaps he'd come up with anything. But it's only been two days and a lot of things have happened. Even the smallest of things now could even make both of them as awkward as hell. But, it's natural, after all, right?

Mikaze shakes his head. He should be careful more with his words from now on. He knows that even the closest of friends could have misunderstood something in a situation like this, and of course, that's the last thing he wants. He listened to what his best friend got to say next and shook his head, "I don't think that holding hands all the time might be a good idea. We certainly didn't want to become the center of attention again, right? Just the thought of two guys holding hand wherever they go are strange enough for everyone already, don't you think...?"

He exhaled a deep breath and continued, "If all the stuffs from novels and romantic movies are true, then I figure that normal couples should've been awkward as hell, so much that they couldn't even hold hands or hugging, or something like that, but... I suppose we're... different, right?"

Shaking his head again, Mikaze tried to turn into another topic, "A-Anyway, why don't we just head for the market? What do you want to have for lunch?"

"Yeah, I guess that's true. Having everyone stare at you isn't much fun..."

Hitoshi listened half-heartedly to what Mikaze was saying, suddenly feeling rather overwhelmed by surprisingly complicated everything was. Originally, he'd thought it would be simple, that you would just know who you were in love with and just know how to deal with it. Apparently that wasn't the case when it came to real life.

"A-Anyway, why don't we just head for the market? What do you want to have for lunch?"

"Oh, yeah. I don't really have anything in particular that I wanna eat, so I guess its your choice. I trust your judgement when it comes to food~"

With a smile, Hitoshi stood and walked beside Mikaze as they made their way toward the town's market. Along the way, Hitoshi noticed a poster on a telephone pole that talked about a festival and fireworks, grabbing his interest.

"Hey, Mikaze! There's supposed to be a festival tonight. Wanna go?"

They hadn't been to a whole lot of real festivals, since they lived in the busy city of Tokyo, and there weren't a lot of places to hold a festival there. However, they'd made a lot of nice memories at the few they'd been to before.

"It says here that there's going to watermelon splitting and fireworks. Sounds pretty cool, considering they don't usually do firework displays in Tokyo."

Mikaze chuckled at the statement of his best friend as they both stood up from the bench where they sat. Well, certainly a lot of things have happened but it's not like that anything is going to stop them from having fun with the time they had here, isn't it? So all they could possibly do now is just to enjoy this moment and let things be the ways they supposed to be. It's for the best. Mikaze thought.

"Well, let's go then. I'll make some nikumiso and okonomiyaki. I'll also get some chicken filet to make yakitori tonight. We can get some takoyaki on the way there too, and I think korokke is also good too..." Mikaze began to list out all sorts of dishes as they strolled their way along the streets. There are hundreds of things he wanted to do and cooking all sort of food he's been dying to make but couldn't back at home was one of them, so of course, he's rather thrilled. And part of it was because he was kind of... happy whenever he saw Hitoshi eating his food contently?

As they was about to reached the market, Hitoshi then saw a poster on a telephone pole which promoted a festival that was going to be held. "Of course, it sounds fun. No wonder I saw some trucks carrying festival's goods earlier." It's not very often that Mikaze got to go to a festival, but he knows that they're going to be fun. Hitoshi then went on listing out what activities they could do at the festival, in which Mikaze nodded in agreement.

"I see. But we gotta find some yukatas first if we're going to the festival, eh? It's been a while since I last saw you wearing one, actually." Mikaze chuckled as both of them entered the market.

There were a lot of stores and stalls that sell all sorts of souvenirs, food, ingredients, etc around here and it was pretty crowded with people travel forth and backward. It's quite interesting, really. You can't find a scene like this in a supermarket in a city and there are hardly any traditional markets around the suburban area so this definitely is something refreshing, for both of them.

After a while of picking things and bargaining, both of the boys headed back to the house, packed with plastic bags with all sort of vegetable, meats, spices, etc. They both also got themselves some takiyoki as they made their ways home. While munching the octopus balls, Mikaze couldn't help but secretly glad that he could spend moments like this with his best buddy. No matter how they'd turn out from now on, at least they can enjoy these moments for now, right?

HITOSHI

LOCATION
Beach Town - Market

TIME
Late Morning

"That's because Yukatas make me look like a girl sometimes."

Everything seemed to go right back to normal as Hitoshi and Mikaze walked through the market, purchasing groceries and different things. Hitoshi ended up finding tiny violin and piano charms, buying them when Mikaze wasn't looking.

He figured it would be a funny little gift to show off their profession. After all, they'd been playing music together since they were children, having something besides the music to symbolize that 'partnership' would be cool.

Even if it was totally cheesy.

"That takoyaki was really good, it sucks that they don't sell it as good in Tokyo. There they just have those vendors at the train station selling octopus buns."

Once they returned to the beach house, Hitoshi helped Mikaze put away the food items they'd bought, making jokes about how the situation was so much like what it would be if they were living in their own apartment together.

Hitoshi sunk down onto the floor in the living room with a heavy sigh, the overwhelming feeling he'd had earlier that day now long gone.

"Hey, Mikaze, do you have any idea what you're gonna do after we graduate? My dad wants me to go to this really fancy boarding school for college, but...to be honest, I don't think school would be very much fun if you weren't around..."

Nah, it's fine! I couldn't tell if the notification system was just not working, so I posted just to check. And we are in three different roleplay with three different characters right now, so it's okay to take your time. I'be been busy with school as well so I know the feel, though I'm home schooled and have no social life so I have more time to spend on this site. Anyways, I'll try and get my post for City of Light done soon. Good luck on your tests!

Mikaze chuckled at his best friend's statement that he looks like a girl in a yukata. "Well, surely you aren't that girly as they said. I guess you could leave your hat on when we go to that festival. Or actually you can consider tying your hair up sometimes. Or getting a hairclap like mine. There's actually quite a few ways to keep that hair of yours from standing out too much, you know."

They stopped by a couple of more shops and get some souvenirs on the way and went into a bookshop. Mikaze bought the new published Weekly Magazine of this week and a some manga books before heading back to the beach house. Hitoshi then went on commenting about the fact that they didn't sell these back in Tokyo. "Well yeah, it's pretty different from the city, obviously. There isn't a whole lot of places where we can go and have fun, but at least the town isn't nearly as crowded as Tokyo. That's a good thing, right?"

As they set out the food onto the counter, Mikaze began to roll up his sleeve and wash the ingredients in the faucet first. As he was chopping some vegetable, Hitoshi asked what he wanted to do after their graduation and said that his family wanted him to go to a rather fancy boarding school for college, Mikaze shrugged, "My mom didn't really emphasize it and said that I could follow whatever paths I want to. I didn't really have a clue right now though. But I'll probably enroll Tokyo University of Arts or something. My passion with music is still the greatest, heh."

After a while preparing with the beef and vegetable, Mikaze made some nikumiso. When about 15 minutes had passed, he set out the dishes onto the table. "I'm done. Let's dig in." He said with a smile as he sat down. "Well, I think that your father and your brothers couldn't force you to do anything all the time, right? At least til now there isn't a time you actually ever listening to their words in the record."

Hitoshi gave a few grumbled responses to Mikaze's suggestions, knowing that he was most likely going to end up in a Yukata by the end of the day, whether it was his choice or not. He figured it couldn't be bad so long as no one tried hitting on him.

"Okay, but if I wear a Yukata tonight, you have to wear one too! And there better not be any creepy old guys hitting on me, 'cause I'm still gonna beat them up."

The topic of Hitoshi's father and brothers came up again, and he laughed quietly at Mikaze's mention of how he'd never listened to them before. "Yeah, I guess that's true. But it's never been about something as important as college. My dad and I already got into a huge fight about it and he even blamed you for the fact I wanna go to a regular college instead of some fancy rich person school. I haven't spoken to him since then, since it was the day before we left to come here. It's all so stupid."

While he couldn't say much for his always-busy older brothers, Hitoshi and his father had the worst relationship, and it was true that the man had blamed Mikaze for his son's 'neglecting his place in society'. Apparently he saw Mikaze as less than him.

"Anyways, Tokyo University sounds perfect for you. It makes sense too, since they have a really good music program. I'd rather go there than to a private school."

Hitoshi continued eating and silently marveled at how good the food was, as always. He almost shot rice out his nose when the thought of Mikaze being a housewife popped into his head and chuckled to himself, enjoying the idea a lot. "If you ever get married, your spouse better be appreciative of your perfect housewife traits~"

Mikaze burst into a laugh again after hearing Hitoshi's comment that there better not any old guys hitting on him anymore or he'll beat them up. "Well, you wouldn't have to worry about that. This town is different from Tokyo, right? Sure, shady guys are everywhere, but certainly not many around here, don't you think? And yeah, I was the one who came up with the idea, how could I not wearing one? I'm just dying to put on a yukata my mom bought for me on my last birthday, but I didn't get a chance to try it."

Then the topic averted back to Hitoshi's intention for his future again. Mikaze couldn't help but sigh a little upon hearing that he was the source for all the blames that he was hindering his best friend's future in Hitoshi's dad opinion. "Yeah, I could see the reason why. If me and my mom are still staying in my former residence right now, and my mom still taking charge of my dad's company then I'll probably would have to cast aside all of my dreams to inherited the company or something like that. And that'd be a real pain."

Mikaze said with a shrug, he wanted to add more, but he knows that it's best not to dwell into the topic of Hitoshi and his family, knowing how they're always at each other throats like that.

Although having to leave the comfortable and luxurious life he once had before, Mikaze was really happy that both him and his mother are now moving out of the house and live an ordinary life. Though apparently he was looked down by the richer people since not many know of his mother's former status.

She was a strong and capable businesswoman, after all. And she once hope that her son would follow her late husband's path, but she knows that she couldn't force Mikaze to do as her liking, so she decided to let him decide what is best for his life.

But his best friend wasn't so lucky, and he greatly sympathized him for that. If there's anything he could possibly do, he'd have done it, but they aren't even graduated yet, so that probably have to wait, for sure.

"Yeah, I'm glad you think so." Mikaze chuckled before blinking at the latter statement of how much he looked like a housewife. He flustered while snapping, "D-Don't tease me, baka. It's not like that I can't be strong..." He snorted and eating away his proportion.

"Anyway, there's still quite sometime before the festival, what do you want to do until then?" Mikaze perked up and asked.

Hitoshi laughed at Mikaze's reaction and finished eating, taking a moment to think about what they could to kill time. "Hm...well, there isn't much to do here, unless you wanna practice that song you showed me. Maybe we could play it for that contest next month?" They'd seen some posters at the Music Association building that talked about the winter 'Companionship Conest' that was apparently supposed to be judging how well each violinist worked with their pianist. They'd win easily.

"We could also go to the beach if you want, since we haven't gone yet. And I'm pretty sure we have some homework we're supposed to be doing over the break..."

Hitoshi grimaced at the thought of doing homework. He hated school, for the most part, and didn't want to have anything to do with it while they were here, but he also knew that he'd have to get the few assignments done whether he wanted to or not.

Standing, he picked up his dishes and went into the kitchen to wash them, returning a couple minutes later. "There isn't really a whole lot to do in this town that has to do with entertainment, but I'm pretty sure that any place you pick will be intresting."

Sighing lightly, Hitoshi leaned on the table and scratched idly at the small marks in the wood. "It seems funny to me that the Matchmaker's Association would send us to a town with no entertainment. I mean, what do they expect us to do for a whole month, exactly?" Thinking about it for a moment, Hitoshi felt his face grow red and he groaned inwardly at the realization. "Ah, now I get what they expect us to do..."

Hitoshi couldn't help but laugh quietly at the thought, and his blush slowly subsided.

Mikaze pouted at his best friend's chuckle. Well, even though he was physically weak but there are times he certainly can still put up quite a fight if he wanted to. It's not like that he ever wanted to get in trouble as frequently as Hitoshi, but he knows that he isn't so weak and unable to do anything like back when he was a kid. One thing for sure that he never gives up when he fail. But that being said, he'll be in pretty much trouble himself if Hitoshi wasn't around.

He listened to his best friend suggestion to practice the song which they listened to yesterday so that they can enter a competition next month when they're back. Speaking of next month, Mikaze couldn't help but wondering whether anything will change when they return. But that wasn't a bad idea either, "Sure. If you're interested in practicing right now then I'm fine with it too. And speaking of contest, I think the result of the contest we took part in before we came here should be up a couple of days later, I guess."

It's not like this is their first time taking part in a competition so they aren't as excited and nervous to wait for the results like the newbies, though. If they're going to take part in this competition, they wouldn't have too much of a problem against other contestants, since they have both talents and cooperation that not anyone could easily achieve.

Mikaze blinked at the statement of his best friend that they're still having homework to do with a little surprise, "Wow, you actually remember about doing homework. That's unusual." Mikaze chuckled right after, "And here I thought you didn't even bring along any notebooks or text books with you."

As Hitoshi went on comment on how there isn't a whole lot of stuff for entertainment do do around this town. "Well, we're city boys after all, so finding recreations in a town like this is is like finding gold dust in a pinch of sand." Mikaze shrugged, "Still, if you trust my judgement then I'll look for something for us to do."

And then, the next statement about what the Association expected them to do in a rather secluded town like this and the sudden realization that hit both of them made Mikaze blushed a bit too as he avert his face to a different direction, "Yeah, I see what you mean there..."

Mikaze cleared his throat before speaking up again, "Let's just get on with the practice, shall we? I'll give you the music sheet." He then stood up from the chair he was sitting before heading to the kitchen's entrance.

"Sounds good to me!" Hitoshi stood and stretched his arms before heading down the hall to where the piano was, sitting down on the bench and pressing down the loudest key, something that would annoy everyone if he did it near other pianists.

While he waited for Mikaze, Hitoshi played a couple of simple tunes that he knew by heart, his favorite being GymnopΓ©die No. 1 by Erik Satie. It was one of the first songs his mother had taught him and he often played it when he was bored, as it tended to remind him of when his mother was still alive and playing alongside him.

He stopped about twenty seconds into the song and leaned his head on the keys, a variety of pitches and sounds filling the room in uncoordinated fashion. "Mikaze, what do you think our results will be for the Kreutzer from yesterday? I feel like the judges were pissed that we used an anime song, even if it was a free choice concert."

It wasn't an exaggeration to say that the judges weren't usually all that happy when it came to playing songs that weren't from the classical music genre. Hitoshi enjoyed pissing them off, for the most part, but not when it could affect their overall score.

He sat back up once Mikaze entered the room, taking his copy of the sheet music with a grin on his face. "I like this song, you always pick good ones~" Hitoshi had gotten used to playing only the prettiest and most interesting songs, compared to other pairs who only played cliche classical songs by Mozart, Chopin or Beethoven.

The song started slow between them, as per usual. Mistakes happened every once in a while and the two boys gave each other tips, the song slowly becoming more fluid.

Mikaze nodded to his best friend with a smile, "Alright then, I'll go and get my violin." He said as he made his way to the room where they slept and left their stuffs there to retrieve his violin. Well, it certainly feels nice practicing in somewhere else other than a studio or Mikaze's house. Unlike when they're still in the city, they didn't have to worry much about bothering the neighbors with their practicing. They can take their time since there's still a month to go.

As he made his way to where his best friend was along with his piano, he heard that Hitoshi was playing some warming-up songs that he learned to play from his mother. Mikaze knows that his best friend's mom was the greatest inspiration that made him taking up the path of a pianist. It's not that easy to get over the death of a loved on, especially since that person had been the encouragement that helped them to move on with their paths. But at least, they haven't lost everything.

Hitoshi leaned on the boards and asked him what does he think the judge will react to the fact that they didn't choose a classical piece like the other contestants, but instead choosing an anime soundtrack. Mikaze shrugged, "Well, we played the piece beautifully, right? The rules didn't say that the competing song must be a classical or famous piece so I don't think they're going to follow their liking when judging. If they do, we can totally sue them."

Mikaze chuckled at his best friend's flatter that he always picks the good songs for them to play, "Why, thank you. Just because classical ones are considered immortal doesn't mean that pieces composed by the modern people aren't good." If he had to choose, Mikaze would prefer to play songs of many modern composer more than the classical ones. They brought a new breath of the era more and definitely not overly sentimental.

Mikaze took a careful look at the sheet to memorize the notes, as this is something he would usually does. As they began to practice, of course there are still mistakes here and there, but they managed to pull off the song pretty well overall. "Okay, I guess we can call it a day." Mikaze said as he lowered his violin from his chin, "We're always a great team, aren't we?" He grinned.

Hitoshi enjoyed the practice, and the music as well. When they decided to end for the day Hitoshi pushed down hard on the loudest key, making himself laugh, and then closed the piano gently. "We're the best team! I mean, c'mon, how many other pairs are out there who've been playing together since they were eight years old?"

Hitoshi stood and stretched his arms, looking toward the fancy-looking clock that sat on a table in the corner. "Hey, do you remember what time that poster said the festival was starting? I kind of forgot..." Thinking about the festival excited him, however, thinking about wearing a Yukata didn't. At least not the practical aspect.

Running in a Yukata is almost impossible, despite the fact that it's shorter than a Kimono, and he also disliked the fact that his hair was rather feminine when seen from behind. Though it wouldn't be too hard to cover it up with his hat if needed.

"Do you think I'd look more feminine from behind if I tried putting my hair into a ponytail or something? I've never really tried tying it up before, so I wouldn't know."

Hitoshi leaned against the door frame and brought his hand to his chin, mimicking a thoughtful pose. "By the way, where am I supposed to even get a Yukata? I know you brought one, but I didn't even think about bringing one with me." Back when Hitoshi packed, he'd barely remembered to bring his toothbrush, let alone a Yukata.

For a moment he found a sliver of hope that he wouldn't have to wear a Yukata. But, knowing Mikaze, the guy had probably packed an extra one just for this type of situation. Sometimes, Hitoshi almost dreaded having such a thoughtful best friend.

Sorry if I made any wrong assumptions about Mikaze, but he really does seem like the kind of person to pack an extra Yukata~

Mikaze chuckled at the sight of his best friend leaning against the board, creating a rather messy sound. "I suppose that it was one of our big advantages, don't you think?" Now thinking back of all those times and all the stuffs they've been through together, it was hard to imagine that there was anything that is capable of separating them anymore. Whether things will be the same after this supposed 'dating' trip or not, Mikaze wouldn't think of the moment when they aren't together.

Hitoshi then raised the question of when the festival start, "I think it was around 6:00 PM or something. We still have plenty of times before that." He replied as he remembered the poster which he saw when they're still on the streets strolling. Actually, the thought of Hitoshi wearing a yukata did sound a bit hilarious to a certain extent, but still, it's still never gets old. There were all sorts of clothes that Mikaze would love if they both can try on together sometimes. Yes, he knows that he was a fashionista at heart.

Mikaze shrugged, "Well, I wouldn't think that. I've imagined you tying your hair up for quite sometimes now. So let's see if you're the same as my imagination or not."

Hitoshi then went on saying that he didn't bring along a yukata, but presumed that Mikaze would probably has something to spare, in which he chuckled. "You know me all too well, are you?" He winked in a rather mischievous fashion. Of course, he's always prepare in situation like this, "Relax, it's not like I'm giving you a flowery decorated yukata or something so you don't have to be that cautious."

Nah, it's fine, girl. That's pretty much Mikaze-liked, LOL.

He knew that Mikaze would definitely enjoy seeing him in a flower-print Yukata, not that it really mattered, since Hitoshi had long since made it clear that was never going to happen.

"Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I brought some elastic bands that I was supposed to use for the concert yesterday. Never ended up using them, but I guess now's as good a time as any!" Hitoshi chuckled to himself and headed off to their bedroom, fishing an elastic from his suitcase and tying his hair into a small ponytail.

Looking in the bathroom mirror, Hitoshi found that it didn't look quite as feminine as he'd expected. His hair still stood up in places, and his bangs were all over the place, making his hair look more ragged than most females would usually appear as.

"It's not as bad as I thought it'd be." Tucking his hat into his suitcase, Hitoshi smiled and crossed his arms over his chest, leaning on the door. "I wonder if you even have enough hair to put in a ponytail..." On instinct, he grabbed another elastic and pulled Mikaze's bangs up into a messy ponytail, his face scrunching in concentration. He couldn't help but burst out laughing at the end result. "You should wear it like that!"

Once he was finished basking in the glory of his horrible styling skills, Hitoshi sat back down at the piano and leaned back on it, the cover preventing his elbows from causing any more dramatic key-smashing. "Y'know, I kind of like it here, with just the two of us by ourselves without anyone telling us what to do. It's peaceful too, without the city cars and stuff like that, it makes the whole dating idea more serene."

Mikaze listened to his best friend as he said that he brought along some plastic bands that he was going to use yesterday when they were performing, but didn't get a chance to do so. They both went back to the bedroom to get them as Hitoshi tried to pull his hair up and get them tied. "See? I told you that it isn't that bad." Mikaze chuckled as Hitoshi walked out from the bathroom with his hair tied into a small ponytail.

Hitoshi then proceeded to ask how would Mikaze would look if he were to tie up hair too, while trying to pull his bangs up. "Hey, I didn't keep my hair as long as you. It was long enough for hairclips though, but I don't think you can tie it up like you did with your own." He said, but Hitoshi still concentrated in tying his hair up into a rather messy ponytail, before joking that he should wear it like that.

Sighing, Mikaze pulled the elastic band out along with the hairclips. The bang that was hung up by the hairclips fell and covered his left eye. He didn't want to put up an impression as someone who couldn't get over his past, but these hairclips had been with him for years now and he almost never put them off except when taking a bath, so it was kind of his trademark. "My mom never allow me to let my hair grows too long, you know." Mikaze said while combing his hair with his fingers and lifted his hair while clipping them back.

As Hitoshi sat down at the piano again, he commented on how different this trip actually turn out compared with their expectation, in which Mikaze replied with a giggle, "I know, right? At first all of these dating stuffs aren't that funny, but everything turned out well in the end. And it was nice that our parents really did trust in the Association enough too, as they haven't give us any calls since yesterday." He shrugged, "Well, let's just find something interesting to do before 6:00 PM, 'kay?"

"Well, it's almost three, so we have almost three hours 'till then. We could go to the beach, I guess, or back to the Hot Spring. We could do homework...nah, that's a bad pastime. I don't really know of anything else. Anything you wanna do is fine by me."

Hitoshi sat back and wracked his brain for ideas, fully aware that he wouldn't always be able to rely on Mikaze for suggestions, especially since he was usually the only one who did come up with ideas. "I brought my skateboard with me, but its more of a solo thing than something we can do together. And I have a pack of cards too if you wanted to play card games. What else..." After those, Hitoshi was out of ideas.

The different thoughts that swam around in his mind covered several topics, which included the festival, his hair, Mikaze's hair for one reason or another, cats, and the odd feeling that he was going to regret ever returning home after the month ended.

He couldn't help but wonder how a single month alone in a beach house was going to change the two of them, and he silently hoped that if they did end up having a 'change of heart' or whatnot, that it would be for the better and not for the worse.

Odd thoughts, for sure. "Hey, how would you expect someone would be changed personality-wise from a trip like this one? I mean, what person is gonna go on a month-long vacation and come home completely different? It just seems irrational."

What Hitoshi really didn't understand was how they were supposed to spend the rest of the month in this tiny town with virtually nothing to do. They had only arrived at the beach house the day before, and they were already bored out of their minds...

Ah, Hitoshi, better watch what you say. You just might contradict yourself later on.

I had to go back and edit my words twice because I accidentally wrote Satoshi instead of Hitoshi...why did I make their names so similar???

Mikaze listened to what his best friend suggested. Well, that's probably all of what they could possibly do when they're in this town already. Though it's nice to change the atmosphere sometimes, it's not easy for two city boys to get used to the life of a remote town in just within a couple of days as it sounds. Perhaps the real intention of the Association would be something like 'couples dating in a scenery that is totally different from the stuffy cities' or things like that. Perhaps no one's gonna clarify that to him.

"You're right, there's not much for us to hanging around the town, but we'll gotta find something interesting if we're going to be here for the next month." Mikaze said while tapping his cheek to think what should they probably do, while Hitoshi listed out some other things they could do. "Playing cards is fine, but I think we should leave that until nights we don't want to sleep our something, since that would be more like it." He said with a grin.

Things are definitely going to be interesting, it just that you couldn't expect to feel anything at all after just two days, right? Or at least, that what Mikaze thinks that the Association is aiming for them to experience.

Mikaze then turned to his best friend as Hitoshi said something about whether they'll change from just a single trip. He blinked before chuckling, "Who knows. The results might turned out to be rather surprising if I must say. Let's just enjoy our freedom first and we'll see whether things will be the same or not."

It's indeed hardly likely that a month-long trip is going to change anything much, but if it would, Mikaze hopes that they'll still be together no matter how things turned out. "Hey, I think I know where should we go." Mikaze said as something come into his mind, "If I remember correctly then there's a really famous shinto shrine around here. They said to have cherry blossoms that are still blooming even in summer. I think I want to see that."

LOL I did mistake them a couple of times too.

"A Shinto Shrine? Sounds good to me!" With a bright, cheesy smile, Hitoshi stood up and followed Mikaze out of the house, leaving behind his signature hat in favor of keeping the tiny ponytail. He couldn't help but speak to his best friend about the thoughts he had stuck in his brain, chattering in usual chipper tone the whole way.

When they finally made it up the tedious steps to the shrine, the first thing that he noticed was the overwhelming smell of flower and the sot pink that dominated the entire area. Sakura blossoms were flying every which way in the breeze and the ground was covered in tiny pink petals. It made Hitoshi laugh. "This reminds me of all those scenes in anime where the main character confesses to their crush under the trees. Ironic, eh?" The scene was indeed convenient, considering their position.

"I can sort of understand the appeal of confessing under sakura trees, now that I've actually stood in the middle of a pink petal tornado, at least one where the petals weren't all wet and gross. It's a pretty beautiful place to admit something like that."

Hitoshi didn't think much before he spoke and simply blurted out what was on his mind, not realizing the true irony of his words until after he'd said them. Somewhere deep within his brain there was a voice telling him to be like the anime protagonist and confess his feelings to Mikaze, even though he didn't understand why. As his face reddened, he found himself growing too confused with his own subconscious.

An elderly couple passed the two, and for some unknown reason, caught Hitoshi's attention, somehow shifting his thoughts to what it'd be like to grow old with someone. Great, now I'm just starting to be weird...this romance stuff really, really, really sucks.

For some reason its really cold in my house and I keep shivering. I mean, its definitely winter, but why is the house cold? So frustrating!

I literally just realized that I had Hitoshi refer to falling sakura blossoms as a 'pink petal tornado'...what am I even doing

"Well, then what are we waiting for?" Mikaze grinned as both of them decided to head to the Shinto shrine situated somewhere on the hill to the northern part of the town which was not very far from the house itself. On the street, Mikaze could see that there were more people crowing on the streets in comparison with this morning. Apparently the spirit of the festival has already spread and looks like it'll be an event to looked forward to.

As they reached the hill where the shrine situated and climbed through the tedious long stairs, a rather large site was the first thing they saw. There quite many people around here too and a couple of mikos were seen wiping the leaves on the ground. Since this place is pretty high up, the air was fresh and you could smell the gentle, soft smell of flowers and trees. Truly a place where people and nature come together as one, as one could say.

And standing in the middle of the ground was a big, tall cherry blossom tree that was blooming with flowers and petals even though it's already summer. It was indeed a miraculous thing. Standing in front of the tree with his best friend while gazing up and watched as thousands of petals falling down and fly with the wind brought peace to his heart. Hitoshi then went on commenting as Mikaze nodded and chuckled, "Yeah, now that you reminded me, this is really something you would normally find in a shoujo manga."

However, Mikaze blinked in surprise at what Hitoshi just said before burst out laughing, "Oh god, Hitoshi-kun, did Fujiwara no Teika just possessed you or something? I'm sure if you write that in your essay, sensei will give you full marks." He couldn't helped but teased his best friend after hearing it, "You really know that it sounds weird for you to be all poetic alike?"

He sniffed and wiped his tears after laughing, "But, yeah, something like that did sound romantic and all. It's not like reality couldn't be like fairytales sometimes?" Mikaze said before both of them headed to the temple. Throwing 5 yen, Mikaze clapped his hands twice and rang the bell. It's easy to tell what he's just wished, and he pretty much hopes that it'll happen.

Well, weather is unpredictable. Sometimes it gets real cold and then real hot all of a sudden LOL

Hitoshi pouted at Mikaze's comment, as was to be expected. "I don't even get how that sounded poetic...and by the way, I'm pretty sensei just hates me, rather than me being horrible in literature class." The thought of his teacher reminded him of the homework he would eventually - and begrudgingly - have to complete, like it or not.

As they made their way to the Shrine itself, Hitoshi wondered what wish to make, and also wondered what Mikaze would wish for. He tossed his five yen coin through the grate and clapped with his his friend, ringing the bell and making his wish: that whatever changes needed to happen during the month to come, would all happen.

"This might be offensive, but doesn't it seem like making wishes is kind of naive?"

Hitoshi didn't bother to be subtle, and almost felt as if he shouldn't be thinking such thoughts. However, he didn't fully believe that his wishes would ever come true, the ideal stemming from the fact only one of his wishes had actually come true so far.

Said wish had technically been two wishes combined into one: his dream to become an accompanist, and the childhood need for a friend. This wish had come true in the form of Mikaze Shirahoshi, and Hitoshi couldn't help but turn slightly pink at the realization that most of his daily happiness was due to the boy standing beside him.

"I don't wanna sound cheesy or anything, but...you know I appreciate you, right?"

Hitoshi stared at the ground as they walked, and although he hadn't wanted to sound like someone from a saucy romance comedy, he still achieved that outcome.

The afternoon breeze was blowing gently and the sun was still shining brilliantly. Around the site of the temple, people seemed to have found their own peacefulness in this tranquil place. The Shinto shrines back in Tokyo although still bring forth a calm feeling, it was not anything that could compare with this shrine. He felt that he started to learn and broaden his view a lot from this trip. A trip around Japan one day sounds not bad. He thought.

Hitoshi then commented that it sound a bit naive to believe in wishing or things like that, in which Mikaze shook his head. "Well, everyone ought to have something to believe in their lives, right? Whether the wishes will come true or not, as long as we tried our best to reach for it, isn't that just enough?"

Yeah, no matter how things will turn out in the future, Mikaze felt grateful that he's met and befriended with Hitoshi. Although they might seemed to be the exact opposite of each other, wasn't it their difference that made them more completed than they would when they're alone? Nonetheless, their presences in each other's lives had changed them into who they were today.

As both of them strolled their way down the stairs, Hitoshi suddenly remarked and asked if Mikaze knows that he appreciated him or not, in which he smiled gently, "Of course. And I you, Hitoshi-kun."

He then took a deep breath while stretching his arms, "Well, looks like the beach is the only place we haven't been to yet. Shall we?"

Hitoshi was, for one reason or another, comforted by the fact that they appreciated each other and weren't too proud to admit it. "Sure, the beach sounds great!" Yet another bout of random conversation followed as the two found their way to the beach. It was significantly less crowded than the Shrine, which was somewhat odd for summertime, but Hitoshi figured tonight's festival had something to do with it.

The breeze wasn't too strong or too cold and it was a rather peaceful scene, quiet since the only other people there were out of earshot. It was nice, to say the least.

"Oh man, I think I'm starting to prefer this place over boring, grey old Tokyo..."

Hitoshi slipped off his shoes and set them next to a bush, stuffing his cell phone and socks into them as well. Unfortunately, he was barely able to make it three steps before he tripped on a branch that was embedded in the sand, falling flat on his face.

Sitting up, he spit sand and couldn't stop himself from groaning in both loathing and embarrassment. "Here's some advice: don't try to eat the sand." He said sarcastically, turning towards Mikaze and standing back up, trying and failing to dust off the sand.

"You'd think that someone who's so active in sports would be more sure-footed, yet here I am falling flat on my face at the beach and inhaling sand in front of a friend."

Hitoshi laughed it off and made his way toward the water. The water itself wasn't too cold, but it definitely wasn't warm, instead giving off the perfect temperature for walking in the ocean without needing to swim in it. Whatever the heck that means...

Mikaze nodded, "Let's go then." With that said, both of them made their ways down hill and walked towards the direction of the beach. The stairs are still terribly long but they were not as tiring as when they have to climbed up. The scenery is still as calm and peaceful as ever, as the summer is about to come. And being able to spend their time at a town like this, what more could they possibly asked now?

As they made their ways towards the beach, Mikaze could see that the strrets were quite crowded and people are certainly bustling around in preparation for the upcoming festival tonight. Somehow it really made Mikaze ferl excited already. He knows that this is foibg to be fun so he's kind of anticipating it for now. And as they reached the beach, before Mikaze was a beautiful scenery: the sand was pure golden, the waves overlap like a rhythm and the sea breeze is somewhat exhilirating. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he was quite awestruck by the brilliant scenery in front of him.

Hitoshi was quick to take off his shoes and started running on the sand. Mikaze, however, just sat down and watching the waves while feeling the breeze against his face. He was not much of an active person like his best friend does, but he could at least enjoy this magnificent view. And it wasn't long until Hitoshi tripped himself and fell, probably just had a mouthful of sand.

As he watched the other boy laughed it off and tried to tell off the embarrasing scene, Mikaze couldn't help but chuckle again. For some reason his best friend is certainly getting into hilarious moments a lot during this trip. It was bad of him to make his best friend a laughstock like that, but who wouldn't find that a bit amusing, anyway? He looked up to Hitoshi as he was walking in the sea, "I don't know what you meant by that but certainly you don't want to be served sand for dinner, hmm?"

And so, both of them play and spend time at the beach for quite some while, until the sky is about to get dark.

β•šβ•

A few hours passed before it finally started to get dark, the town slowly growing louder as the festival preparations were completed. Hitoshi and Mikaze returned to the beach house to change, and by now, Hitoshi had stopped loathing the Yukata.

"You should keep in mind that I have absolutely no idea how to put on a Yukata."

It was true, seeing as he hadn't worn one in nearly nine years. He felt embarrassed in knowing that he was going to need help from Mikaze simply to put the thing on, which was probably something that almost every teenager in Japan knew how to do. Except him, of course. "What are we gonna do for the rest of the night, anyways?"

Hitoshi's first and most dominant thought was fireworks. Tokyo rarely allowed the populous to use fireworks, and even then, it was never much more than sparklers. Therefore, the thought of seeing a full-on fireworks show was extremely appealing.

"The festival is also another cheesy romantic setting from Shojo manga. You know, where the protagonist tries to confess, but can't be heard over the fireworks? Pretty lame, if you ask me." Not matter how much he tried to ignore the thoughts, being a part of the Matchmaker Program made every event seem like that from an anime.

Being constantly reminded of why they were there was both entertaining and rather embarrassing, not that Hitoshi really minded it too much. After all, nothing too odd or embarrassing had happened yet, so there wasn't anything to really worry about.

"I'm actually starting to like this Matchmaker thing. Well, at least the vacation part."

As they strolled their way back, more and more people seemed to be crowded on the streets. Though not as crowded as Tokyo, Mikaze could feel the atmosphere in the air. It was a lot warmer and filled with excitement. I really could get used to this... He thought for himself. He's going to miss moments like this when they return to the city.

When they're back, Hitoshi has stopped loathing about the fact that he has to wear a yukata already, only to be struck with another realization that he didn't know how to put one on. Mikaze chuckled, "Not to worry, I'm always here to lend you a hand. And I suppose we can do all sorts of thing they usually do at a festival. Foods, souvenirs like kitsune mask or some games. It's gonna be real fun, I can tell."

Mikaze went to his luggage and picked out his yukata, and another one that he has in stored. It was then that Hitoshi commented on how everything is turning more and more into a Shoujo manga, with the same types of ending. "Aren't all the we've been through since we arrived here had been like a real manga already?" He smiled lightly as he turned his head and quietly remarked, "But it wasn't bad at all..."

When Hitoshi spoke up his mind on how he really felt about the whole dating stuffs that the Association is making both of them to go through, Mikaze nodded, "Yeah, I couldn't agree more." He held the yukata that he's prepared for his best friend, "What do you think? I picked it specially for you, hehe."

And then, Mikaze proceeded to help Hitoshi to put on the clothes. Though he was struggling a little bit to keep Hitoshi standing still while he was tying the belt. After a while, Mikaze look at his best friend and nodded with satisfaction. "It doesn't look bad at all, if I must say. You should wear it often, Hitoshi-kun."

When Mikaze finished dressing himself up too, he turned to Hitoshi, "Well, shall we get going?"

Hitoshi couldn't stop himself from chatting endlessly whilst Mikaze helped him put on the Yukata, and he fidgeted anxiously from the anticipation of the festival. After all, this would be his first 'real' fireworks show, and he was spending it with Mikaze.

Once the Yukata was finished being adjusted, Hitoshi found the mirror and realized that he actually did look good in it, and he didn't at all look like a girl the way he had anticipated. "Thanks. Maybe I'll wear one when we go to the Shrine for New Years."

Hitoshi's hair was still pulled into a ponytail and after a three-second inner debate, he decided to just leave it be, instead focusing on not tripping in wooden sandals.

"Well, shall we get going?"

Grinning brightly, Hitoshi nodded and hopped over to Mikaze, almost falling over in the process. "By the way, if I fall over in these weird wooden sandals, I'm gonna blame you for it~" He let out a laugh and slipped them on, taking his usual spot by his friend's side as the two made their way into the massive crowd of festival-goers.

The crowd was intimidating to say the least, and Hitoshi could already feel himself growing nervous about getting lost. Hitoshi was painfully aware of how short he was compared to most people, and just by looking at the crowd he knew he wouldn't be able to see over anyone in order to find Mikaze if they somehow became separated.

Hitoshi subconsciously inched closer to his friend and was careful where he stepped, making sure not to step on anyone's toes and praying no one stepped on his own.

To be honest, Mikaze couldn't help but find his best friend to be a little funny today, as it was long since the last time he saw him wearing traditional clothes again. But, yeah, he was also grateful that despite Hitoshi's initial loathing, he still decided to wear it. Stepping by the door, both of them wear the wooden sandals that were prepared for them by the Association before making their way to the town's square, where the festival was taking place.

As Hitoshi hopped towards Mikaze, which almost resulted in him falling down again, he said jokingly that he would blame Mikaze should he fell down wearing the sandals, in which Mikaze replied in the same mischievous manner, "Well, you should blame yourself first for not being careful in the first place."

Both of them then strolled along the street to the to the town square, the wooden sandals tapped against the ground sound clanky. People crowding the streets are also headed to the same direction as them. It was an event once in a while, so of course, the crowd was really intimidating, to say the least. Both of them have to stick together all the time if they didn't want to lose track of each other.

After 10 minutes of walking or so, they finally reached the festival. At first sight, Mikaze was quite awestruck by the scenery in front of his eyes. Lanterns were hung everywhere, lightened up the whole square. Booths selling foods, souvenirs and organizing games are all across the place. Excitement soon took over Mikaze as he unconsciously took Hitoshi hand and blended themselves into the seemingly endless crowd in the festival.

It was fun.

Both of them stopped by almost every booth on their way, eating all kinds of foods, buying some interesting souvenirs and playing games around. For hours, Mikaze has almost forgotten about time. He felt as if there isn't a care in the world and all he knew was that he really enjoy the moment, along with his best friend.

Somehow... he felt that he'd found his answer to his inner feelings.

When he finally saw the bright lantern-filled scenery surrounding him, any feeling of nervousness had disappeared from Hitoshi's mind and was replaced with pure awe. The streets were filled with beautiful tapestries and color was everywhere, a big and much-appreciated contrast from Tokyo's dreary, monotonous grey. He was so stuck in the moment that he hardly noticed when Mikaze was suddenly gripping his hand.

It was a while before he realized they were connected, and Hitoshi didn't mind. It helped to ease his fear of getting lost and he was already aware of the fact he felt safer in close contact with Mikaze, so he stayed silent and focused on the festival.

"Hey, Mikaze, does this kitsune mask make me look intimidating or insanely cute?"

Hitoshi held a mask up to his face, excited about the fact that it was an exact replica of Gin's mask from one of his favorite movies, Hotarubi No Mori-e. With a laugh, he passed a few coins to the vendor and they two continued on, stopping to observe anything and everything that caught their attention - which was literally every stall.

After a while, Hitoshi intertwined his fingers with Mikaze's, hoping the taller boy wouldn't notice, and kept going in his rant about takoyaki with his face showing the faintest pink color. For him, the loud chatter was silent and the crowd disappeared, leaving only him and Mikaze with their lively conversation and silly jokes no oneX else could even try to understand. Nothing else - no one else - mattered, just them.

The whole scene proved itself to be ridiculously clichΓ© when Hitoshi finally took the time to think about it, as they tried to find a firework viewing spot in the crowd.

Brave Shine - Aimer

After like hours playing and hanging around the booths in the festival, Mikaze has almost lost his sense of time as he was too busy to have fun. Luckily, an announcement that the fireworks show which serves as the concluded event of the festival will take place after 30 minutes later. He almost squealed in excitement as he grabbed his best friend's hand again, "Let's go find somewhere to watch it, Hitoshi-kun. It's going to be amazing."

While both of them looking for a place high enough to observe the fireworks clearly, they went on with their almost endless chatter and nonsensical jokes. This really is the happiest moment of Mikaze's life. Being able to enjoy the festival along with his best friend, what more could he possibly ask for? I'm really going to miss this moment when we're back at the city... He thought while secretly wishes that it could have lasted forever.

Hitoshi put up the kitsune mask and jokingly asked whether if it makes him look like a fool or insanely cute. Mikaze couldn't help but chuckling again. "Well, it depends on whether if you think you're cute or not. Normally, you're intimidating enough so you don't have to worry."

After some while looking for a viewing spot around the festival, both of them managed to found a hill which was not very far from the festival. Apparently they're not the only ones, as there were also some couples around, but not enough to make a crowd, so there's not a possibility that they could be disturbed while sitting here. "Come here, Hitoshi-kun, this spot is perfect for a good view." Mikaze pointed and both of them sat down.

Gazing up at the starry sky, both of them stayed silent while waiting patiently for the first fireworks to be fired. As he finally has a quiet moment after all the chatters earlier, many thoughts are now swimming in his mind. But despite how clichΓ© and shoujo manga-ish they're, Mikaze could be certain for one thing: he is happy. Now there's nothing could hold him back from confessing all of his thoughts.

"Hey, Hitoshi-kun." Mikaze said, his face is visibly red, "A lot of things have happened since we arrived here, haven't they? I'm pretty sure that despite how shoujo-ish our situation turned out to be, this trip certainly is something that I will remember for the rest of my life."

A gently smile appeared on his face, "I'm not trying to be all sentimental alike or something, but I just wanted to say that..." He blushes, "I was really happy, being able to spend these moments with you, Hitoshi-kun. But not just from this trip. Ever since we met, I was glad that you've always been there for me. I know how much your father would protested if we keep hanging out like this, but despite that, you've never left me all by myself before."

"There's a person who'd always been there in my heart, and he'd always been the one that I loved. But I've been such a fool for not realizing it. But now, I can say with certainty that that person..." Then, he smiled brightly. Right after that, the first firework was fired and exploded on the sky, blooming radiantly on the dark sky.

"...is you."

Okay, I'm literally embarrassing myself LOL
Let's end it here, shall we? :)

The view from the top of the hill was beautiful, even without the fireworks lighting up the sky. It was calm and peaceful and Hitoshi felt as if the night couldn't have gotten any better. This feeling was proven wrong the minute Mikaze spoke to him.

And in that moment, everything stopped. It was as if the whole world had gone silent, even as the fireworks boomed loud and bright overhead, and Hitoshi could feel his face growing hotter when he realized just what his friend had said. Not in a million years would he have thought it was him who Mikaze had been crushing on.

Hitoshi was the first to know about everything in Mikaze's life, just as Mikaze was the first to know about everything in his, so it was only fair that he'd been the first to notice his friend's awkward blush whenever the topic of dating came up. He'd decided not to pressure Mikaze about it, and never asked who he was in love with.

Now he didn't have to ask, and he couldn't help but realize his own feelings toward the situation. After all, the warmth he found when he was with Mikaze could most definitely be classified as love, couldn't it? There wasn't another way to describe it.

Hitoshi sucked in a deep breath and stood up onto his tiptoes, gripping the front of Mikaze's Yukata for stability, and pressed his lips to Mikaze's own. He hid his face in his hands and tried to control his heartbeat, which was rapidly speeding up.

"I love you too, you big idiot."

Hitoshi couldn't help but laugh at how incredibly Shojo it all was, but by now, he didn't care. Moving his hands away, he turned back to the fireworks with a smile.

*screaming internally* I feel like I'm going to explode, please tell me you know CPR and can revive me after I die from cuteness!( οΌ›Β΄Π”ο½€οΌ‰
