Introduction
An explosion rattled the Earth. Within an instant, every happy family, every green lawn, every carefully painted house, was blown to ashes. Within an instant, this happy little town, and every town surrounding it for miles on end, suddenly vanished from the face of the Earth. The cause of which, was a small missile, launched without reason from an unknown source. The incident was thought of as an attack, and a nuclear was was waged. Hundreds of thousands of miles of American land was destroyed before the war came to an end. Many citizens hid in underground bunkers, safe from the blast radius, but not the contamination.
The large dose of nuclear radiation would force humans to stay in havens for years to come, so to stop the radiation, a counteractive gas was created by the Russian military. With nothing left to lose, they shipped the solution to their former enemies. The gas was enclosed in a large vase-like compartment. A tower was built in the center of each ghost zone, or the center of missile impact. With three large gas-chambers in each nation, treatment began. Soon after, the radiated levels dropped, until the area was deemed livable once more.
For only a month, humans began re-building. Their process, however, was drawn short. People began collapsing, seeming to be in a good physical shape just moments before. When they awoke, they were hostile, thrashing and biting. Not dead, but not in a normal state of mind. The gas had been tested on humans before released, but the symptoms had not shown until weeks after. People who were once caring, and kind, became cannibalistic murderers. They were deemed by the French La Mort. Over time, the name was spoken through broadcasting, and became well known. In a few short months, the ravaging beasts claimed the nick-name, Morties.
Morties could think for themselves, making them dangerous creatures. They weren't zombies, or ghouls. They were humans. Humans filled with hate, rage, and destruction. They aimed their affliction on non-contaminated humans, and only turned on their own if betrayed, or antagonized.
The rage inside of them, came out in appearance. Their eyes held a narrow shape, their teeth sharpened to allow the consumption of bone. They enjoyed usual perks. Cigarettes, food, sex. Nothing, however, was as satisfying as pure human flesh, which meant that they were slowly making their way to the rest of the world that had not been contaminated from the blast, to seek fresh meat.
Fighters, soldiers of types, were chosen to fight the infection. Each talented in their own criteria. Gasmasks as their battle armor, they were to be sent to fight off the horde, and reach the gas towers. Their mission was to replace the canister with the new antidote, and reverse the Morties back to human beings. However, as the population of Morties increased, the government insisted on sending in a "super natural aid". Someone on the inside who could give the secrets of the enemies social kingdom.
Scientists worked for days on end, flying in to L.A. from around the world. They were trying at the impossible, the ability to play god. To turn the demon-like beings back into a neutral state. To make what was once man, human again. The first sign of success was a serum invented by a college professor in his early years. He told everyone of his experience with the vial of red liquid. From there, it was modified, toyed with until perfection.
Tested on it's first subject, a child, recently captured as a Mortie. The child was injected with the red liquid for 38 days. In an instant, the liquid stopped her heart, freezing her mind in time while he body had to be preserved in liquid. On the very last day, she had awakened, no longer a Mortie. Though, she was neither alive, or dead. More like an inanimate object. She didn't eat. She didn't drink. She didn't sleep. But she did have emotions, and she felt pain as an human would. However, her life-span was short lived. Once they had stopped injecting her with the godly serum, her lifespan shortened further, until she fell dead just months after her re-birth.
From this, they inquired that one dose per month could create a working, fighting, tame Mortie. They selected two prisoners, former military men who had fallen under the plague.
From around the world, humans were chosen as well. The best gunsman, martial artist. The smartest, the most athletic. They were all brought to L.A., The last living city in the United States. The Morties became aware of the plan to release the antidote, and placed the strongest of their fighters to stand guard at the Ghost Zones. As for the humans, they would train until the day that the selected Morties were reborn. The day that they became warriors.
