ImageImageA vampire is a mythical being who subsists by feeding on the life essence of living creatures.

Image

In folkloric tales, undead vampires often visited loved ones and caused mischief or multiple deaths in the neighborhoods they inhabited when they were alive. They wore shrouds and were often described as bloated and of ruddy or dark countenance, a stark difference from today's gaunt, pale vampires which dates from the early 1800s. Although vampiric entities have been recorded in most cultures, the term vampire was not popularized until the early 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition in Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe.

Enamored by these supposedly flawless creatures, authors around the world began to collect tales, building a reputation around the creatures of the night. Some of the earliest works of supposed fiction concerning vampires includes titles such as The Vampyre, Varney the Vampire, Carmilla, and perhaps the most famous of them all, Dracula. What was it about these beings that captivated humans so? Was it their supposed immortality? Or maybe it was rumored tragedies of love that could last centuries, even after a partner has passed?

One at a time rumors were unmasked, vampires stepping into the metaphorical light expecting to be celebrated and worshiped. Instead they were met with horror and chased from civilization. Neighbors turned on one another, families suspecting their loved ones in a terrible twist of fate. Whole communities were torn apart in the search for these creatures. Meanwhile they continued to blend, living in plain in sight among the people that hated them. They tolerated the slander and racism until finally the excitement died down and vampires were nearly forgotten about.

It was a thing of the past, once more immortals were nothing more than a work of fiction. Vampires could once again live in relative peace, no longer fearing to be ousted by their neighbors. The days passed slowly; during a lazy autumn they found the first body, a wooden stake driven through the body's chest. More bodies were found, the cause of death nearly always the same. It was the work of hunters, mutilating whatever vampires they could get their hands on. Families of vampires began migrating towards the mountains, fleeing society altogether in hopes of a safer life in the country.

Nestled in the mountains to the north is a hotel, it is extravagant in every sense of the word. Once a castle owned by the Vampire Princess, it was taken by a woman who worked as her care taker, turned into a safe heaven for their kind. Their primary clientele happen to be vampire, occasionally however, a few humans will stumble along the place looking for a bed to retire to for the night. A place where no hunter can reach and is for those on the run as well as a place where they can drop their guard. The hotel is nearly impossible to get to, unless of course you can fly and yet, twice a year some confused human finds themselves at their doorstep.

The employees are known to serve with a smile and are incredibly trustworthy. Unless of course you're human, then you may find yourself becoming a midnight snack. It is not uncommon to awake to a vampire or two standing at the foot of your bed. They have been more cautious lately though due to the amount of hunters that seem to be passing through the mountains. Now more than ever it is imperative to lay low. The hunters have been on the look out, tracking bodies and attempting to exterminate the vampires completely.
Image

Hunters || Primarily human although occasionally you can find a vampire or two among their ranks.

Sarkomenos || Vampires that have a bit of a Ghoulish appearance, they come from Crete and Rhodes.

Danag || A vampire that is not dangerous nor immortal until it tastes its first blood. Before that point they can live as humans, their primary distinction is their red eyes and pale skin.

Gothic ||They are resistant to the more traditional vampire killing methods. The only way to slay a Gothic is to crush its heart completely and scatter the remains. They inherit their power through their sires, therefore if the one that turned them was a shapeshifter then they too become a shapeshifter.

Lahmians || Lahmians are primarily female, they all descend from Queen Neferata. They have powers of enchantment which they use to influence their prey. They can be defined by the markings on their bodies that shimmer in the light.

Necrarchs || They are the rarest and most hideous of species, bearing scares whereas their kin can heal any blemish on their body.

So what's going to happen? Well obviously a war is brewing, the vampire's are killing humans, humans are killing vampires, it's not pretty and neither side is very happy. So what's going to happen is that it starts with a ball, all the major Ladies and Lords have been invited and the staff are working double time to ensure the happiness of their guests (this is at the hotel).

Riven knows what's going on, she hasn't been invited but she hasn't said anything because she doesn't want her kin to perish. Unfortunately though, someone has tipped the hunters off as to the place and time when some VIV's (Very Important Vampire's) will have their guard down.

After that it is basically a snowball effect of things falling into place and an official war being declared.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Abilities are also something you need to know. Humans do not have any because they're, well, human. The only exception to this are dhampires who are half human, half vampire and they only have very minor powers.
All vampire's share distinct abilities; shape shifting into a bat (and in some rare cases a black cat), enhanced senses, razor sharp teeth and nails, and sometimes enhanced strength. Along with this they have one main ability that is a distinct trait passed down from either their family, or one they developed when becoming a vampire.
~~~~~~~~~~

The Kings || The Seven Vampire Kings used to be key players, however most of them have died or have been succeeded by younger (somewhat better disguised) heirs. The seven king's in this country were defined by their regions and each known by a very brutal measure they took to protect their land(King of the South East, AKA the Bloodied Sword). The territories are formed to ensure good hunting grounds and that there are enough humans for the vampire's to prey on. Obviously they lived in secret, but they were very wealthy and had lavish homes despite the fact that on the outside they had to appear as commoners.

The King's are the most powerful, well known, and respected vampire's to have ever walked the earth. Some were born into this power, other's obtained it by joining a King's ranks and being named heir. All have earned the title one way or another.

~~~~~~~~~
Other Information || Children : When two vampire's love each other very much, they get busy and have a baby. Normally the child takes after the more dominant species, so if a Danag and a Gothic make love, the child will almost always be a Gothic.
When a human and a vampire get busy, the child almost always dies. Once in a blue moon though, it will stick and the female will become pregnant. When this happens, the child becomes a dhampire. Sometimes they can surpass the abilities of both parents when in fight or flight mode, but most of the time they appear to be weaker versions of vampire's that can tolerate limited amounts of human food.
Being Turned || So obviously the vampire drinking has the decision as to whether or not they would like to turn someone. There are two ways to do this: the first is to make them drink your blood. This is normally the most convenient method because it is very easy to force someone's mouth open and to make them swallow.
The second option, the harder of the two, is normally used on lover's in dire circumstances. The vampire would have to bite the human (does not matter where, can be on hand, neck, shoulder, etc) and focus all of their energy into the human's body. This method is reserved for extreme circumstances where one is no longer able to swallow and almost past the point of saving.
~~~~~~~~
Turning Process || Obviously changing all at once would be a bit overwhelming, that's why the body start to slowly adjust. The first twenty four hours are normally full of excruciating pain due to the fact that you are technically dead and yet still walking around as though you are living. Vampires don't have to breathe, but most do out of instinct; young vampire's are taught to inhale and exhale in order to blend in, in the human world.

Normally the first change they will notice is their complexion. Unless they are a day walker they will turn deathly pale, almost sickly looking. After this the fangs come in and depending on the type of vampire any other attributes starting from the top of the body to the bottom will be noticed.

|| Until I throw away my dreams and become an adult || rachie ||

A carrier is someone who's immune to the infection but carries it within their system nonetheless. If Jacob was a carrier, then he could be the biggest danger to humanity. There was no time to be happy that he was a normal human again, Viola was anxious but she didn't know how to save him. What could even be done about this? Riven was the only one to speak up to try to save him. "Nifa, come here." Iflet ordered. The bow legged - wait, when was she bow-legged? Did Iflet punish her for something recently? - came, the maid bowed and stood at Iflet's attention. Iflet grabbed Jacob, sliced into his arm and forced Nifa to drink from the knife. For a moment, nothing happened. And then nothing continued to happen. "I'm still human." Nifa said in dull surprise. She returned to Ronoue where the two would wait until they were needed.

"So I guess that means he isn't a carrier then." Iflet's voice was quiet as Gavyn watched the proceedings. Iflet drew her dagger, ready to go straight for the neck. "Don't-" Dominic was about to lunge and attack but Oliver and Elise pulled him back, not allowing him to get dragged down too. Jacob was shaking not out of fear, but his body must have taken so much damage these past few weeks. And he hasn't had anyone to come and help him. "Killing him right now would be in bad taste." The demon queen's entrance into the scene was very welcome. Next to her was her little sister, wagging her tail. "There's a ball coming up soon. Shouldn't we postpone his death until after the ball?

They had come back, they were ready for their part of the assassination plot. Baron Messiah and his group were being strategically quiet and Viola noticed that too. She nudged Riven, hoping Riven noticed. Messiah no doubt knew about their plan and chose to not get involved and let whatever side wins, win. Their only opponent would be Iflet and Gavyn Seylum. "And not in front of Riven. Traitor or not, she and him are still friends." Gavyn finally made his decision after weighing both sides of the problem. "It would be cruel to force her to watch her friend's death." Kitra walked up to Iflet then, with a little grin. "Let me keep him in Hell for now. You have a ball to get ready for."

The next morning had come. The day of the ball had finally come. Elise was back in her own room so it was just Viola and Riven waking up in Riven's room. Vi's room went unused in the end. "Kitra came back. She'll be free to help Doll and Christopher if need be." She was relieved that in the end, Jacob didn't die. "Today's the day, Riven. Then it'll all be over." One last fight. Gavyn wouldn't be a problem without Iflet as his protector. "Messiah won't get involved and neither will the demons under him. Since Echo vanished, Lipidus stopped following Iflet's orders too." The demons were out of the picture. No doubt Kitra had spoken to them. "I'm so tired, Riven. I don't want to be in stress anymore." To have to live with eyes constantly watching for any mistake, it was incredibly hard for someone like her.

For the time being, Jacob was being kept in hell. It was fine with Riven, she knew that Kitra would take care of him and she felt better knowing that he was in the care of an ally rather than still being tortured in the basement. It hurt Riven, knowing that she had largely been unable to do anything for her friend, but hopefully now, he would be able to heal. Riven was glad the disaster was over, she was glad that they were nearly done with this tiresome mission. She went to bed that evening, exhausted with the weight of all the secrets she kept, knowing that if tomorrow's plan went wrong, it very well may be her last waking day on earth. No, iflet wouldn't kill her, Riven was smart enough to know that.

She would make her watch all of her friends die slow, painful deaths. With this in mind, Riven had trouble falling to sleep. She had a burdensome and heavy conscious and even with Viola by her side, it was difficult to not toss and turn. No one said anything as to the two girls sharing a bed. It wasn't unusual for vampire royalty to take in a concubine, but no one suspected or at least outwardly accused Riven of taking one. In truth, their relationship was noting of the sort. It was one of mutual need an reliance. When morning came at last, Riven stirred to the sound of Slaine setting up breakfast, just as he did every morning. The vampire yawned and stretched, finding that Viola was already awake. She too, it seemed, had gotten little rest. Riven swiped at her eyes and stumbled out of bed, figuring that she may as well start the bath.

Now that Viola's wrists had been healed, their bath time ritual had resumed. "Good morning," Riven said as she began to wriggle out of her clothing. "Yes, she came back as promised. She'll be releasing them once all hell breaks loose tonight." Riven nodded in agreement, glad that the demons were no longer an obstacle. Riven smiled, "I'm glad, at least, that we were able to save Echo." Even if they had nothing to do with the actual rescue, the vampires had been distracted long enough that Echo had somehow escaped and the vampire was happy for it. The demon did not deserve to suffer and it was clear that Baron Lipidus and Baroness Explozia had been making the little one miserable. "I'm tired of it too, Vi. Today, it will all be over." Once Iflet fell, taking care of Gavyn would be a piece of cake.

Elise arrived with Sweet Pea while the two vampires were eating breakfast. They were here to prepare for the ball of course, since Riven had charged them with preparing the gowns. "Stop moving so much!" Elise hit Riven lightly on the head as the vampire princess squirmed beneath the heat of the curling iron. "It's smothering," Riven groaned in response. "For someone who is always cold, you sure can't take the heat!" Elise replied teasingly. Riven scowled in response, which lifted as soon as she saw Sweet Pea unzip the bag containing her dress. "What's wrong?" Sweet Pea inquired, slightly panicked. Riven shook her head, "Nothing, it's... it's perfect."

|| Until I throw away my dreams and become an adult || rachie ||

It was morning and Viola and Riven enjoyed their old ritual from the good old days where they shared a bath together and dried off together. "Should we pretend to be Vampire and Concubine?" Viola asked with a silly grin, glad to be able to regulate her emotions now. Thanks to Julia she learned how to feel close to normal again. "If we can make it through today... then everything..." They still had to save the Orgia to allow future vampire bloodlines to exist, they still needed to follow through on Kitra's order to help her save Celeste. "A union of vampire and angel..." It was weird to think about. "Not really our problem, but it would be good to honor the deal."

Two welcome faces came. Honestly, it was odd but Iflet's officers had become almost like friends. Not exactly, but almost. Julia and Viola were talking more now - now that Vi was a vampire there was no need for Julia to kill her and save her from the humans anymore. Now that Elise was a vampire, she couldn't gain weight and could properly feed her gluttonous tongue as she pleased, getting along well with Sweet Pea. Dominic and Gregore were together often, sharing drinks and swapping stories. Even Alty, while claiming it was only due to having once been Jacob's doctor, has shown interest in his wellbeing. He kept Jacob healthy when Iflet kept trying to turn him into a vampire. Riven's dress was elegant and pretty, fitting for the future Vampire Queen. Viola's dress was a lot more girly, peppy and fun, just like her.

Make up done, hair finished, there wasn't much time left until the Ball was to begin. Viola and Riven spent quite a few hours practicing dancing and getting ready. She needed to get as much perfect as she could after all! It was risky to talk about the plan though. With Nifa and Ronoue prowling the halls - poor Slaine tried his best to talk to them but they refused to listen - if they were to find out, then this whole strategy would fall apart. "I love you, Riven!" Vi clung to Riven's arm, happy to pretend to be some swooning concubine that was attached to her Master at the hip. "You're so good in bed!" She grew a bit of a blush as she said that, wiggling her hips.

There were a lot of people at the ball. A lot of vampires Viola recognized, even more that she didn't. Would they be able to pull this off? Even more, without being caught? As she and Riven entered the ballroom, Julia found them, looking stunning in her dress. With a smile she spoke. "The Duke of Sussex isn't here. I wonder where he could be, it would have been nice to see him again." She said loftily, as if she knew what their plan was.

Riven's cheeks flushed pink when Viola made a declaration of love. "Vi-Viola don't make such declarations in front of others!" The two were sharing a bed and that was all there was to it. It wasn't as though Riven loved Viola, after all, love between two women was highly illegal. Riven shook her head, attempting to shake the impromptu assault off. Their presence was announced at the ball of course and Riven made her way down the steps and into the ballroom. On instinct, Riven almost moved to shield Viola, then recalled that she was a vampire and had no need for shielding. No one here would hurt her, since there was no longer a danger of her being human. Dominic was the one they needed to worry about and he had holed himself up in his room, declaring that there was no need for his presence.

Julia sought them out, grinning triumphantly. "I'm certain he'll be here soon," Riven nodded. "He was never one to miss a party," as though on cue, the Duke of Sussex had arrived, his presence announced as he entered the ballroom. Riven rose a brow, as though to tell Julia that she had said as such. Gavyn appeared beside her, "Please excuse us ladies, I'm going to cut in for a dance." He took Riven's elbow, guiding her to the middle of the dance floor. Riven glanced back at Viola, glad that if she was left with anyone, it was with Julia. At the end of the day, Julia was the one that would be able to protect Viola and with Gavyn distracted and the Duke of Sussex now here, their plan could be rolled into action.

"You look lovely," his hands fell to her waist. "Thank you my King, you look fetching yourself." He smiled a small smile, the crown on his head over abundant with jewels. It was King Seylum's crown; this filth did not deserve to wear it. Two thrones had been set up at the opposite end of the ballroom, this was their engagement party after all. They had to appear like a happily nearly wed couple. Out of the corner of her eye, Riven spotted Athena, greeting the Duke. The others had been largely meeting without her, since Riven was busy occupying Gavyn and with her near her brother, Iflet was never far. Even now, she was watching them, as though jealous that Riven was holding his hand. She had no idea why Iflet hated her so much, perhaps it was because of their first fateful meeting, where Riven had forced Iflet to drink blood off of the floor.

The song ended and Riven curtsied. "Excuse me, can I cut in for a dance?" It was Baron Lipidus, of all people. "Of course," Gavyn nodded, finding a server to grab a glass of blood. Kaito too, was hidden upstairs, safe from the prying eyes of vampire lords. Lipidus grasped Riven's wrist, almost dragging her back to the dance floor. The music started up again, filtering through speakers overhead rather than a live orchestra. "Where is she?" Lipidus asked, his grip on her tight. "Where is who?" Riven inquired calmly, glowering up at the Baron. "Don't play dumb, I know you took Echo. Where are you hiding her?" Riven laughed, "I do my best to stay out of the affairs of demons, Baron. I would never dream of touching your wife." His grip tightened, his claws digging into her side.

"If I find out you've hurt her-"

"You mean the way you were hurting her?"

"I would never!"

Riven stood on tip toe, leaning over to whisper into his ear. She could feel Gavyn's eyes watching her as she did so. "Scum like you don't deserve love." He released her, pushing her away and stomping off angrily. "I apologize Princess," Baroness Kitra shook her head, sliding in where Baron Lipidus had left. It was not custom for two women to dance, but who was Riven to deny this strange opportunity? She had been practicing both parts with Viola, but Baroness Kitra took the lead as the male. "Lipidus is not exactly the most discreet." Riven shook her head, she could feel the eyes glued to the two. "It's no trouble at all, besides, a demon like could never intimidate me." Kitra threw her head back to laugh, the sound oddly pleasant. "I've already begun the search for your Celeste," Riven said softly. Kitra nodded, "Thank you Riven."

~~~~~
Melody spent every waking moment with Echo, but even that wasn't enough. When she came in that morning, Shiro was holding her down as Wei forced a tube into her nose. "If you won't eat, then we're going to use this. I already warned you," it hurt Melody to watch, but she knew it had to be done. Echo was emaciated, her ribs were so prominent that you could see every shuddering breath, but still Echo wouldn't eat. She used to love food, if you allowed her, she would have inhaled an entire table of cake. "There, it's in," Wei stepped back and Shiro released Echo as she retched, gagging on the sensation. He placed a piece of tape down, snaking it behind Echo so that she wouldn't pull it out. "Let's start getting some food in you," they turned a tiny machine on, full of what almost looked like milk. "It's demon formula," Wei admitted, "it's easiest on the stomach."
Melody sat down beside Echo and pulled her sister into her arms. Echo flinched away at the touch, but Melody held steady. "It's okay, it's going to help you get better," Melody's smile was gentle. Flame was waiting outside the door, listening. There were only three people allowed in that room and all three were currently in there. "I'm gonna change your bandages Echo," the puppy nurse said, taking out a long roll. Echo whimpered, but did not resist. "Look, your tail is growing back!" Indeed, the small stump was a bit longer today. Shiro wrapped it carefully, as tails were sensitive and bled easily.
"With a little nutrition, their growth will be sped up," Wei informed them. Echo started retching again and Wei turned down the flow rate. "Shiro, once this is done, we'll run some electrolyte water." Shiro nodded, they couldn't use an IV, Wei would not subject Echo to being repeatedly poked with needles, given to how fragile she was. "Melody, I found a great rehabilitation facility for Echo," Wei informed her. He handed her a pamphlet and left to attend to his other wards. Shiro pat Echo's head once she was done and took her leave as well, allowing the sisters time together alone. Melody looked at the pamphlet, her hands shaking as she opened it up to read about the facility. It was located in Norway, hidden deep in the mountains.
"Look Echo, it says it specializes in demon rehabilitation." Melody tried to show her the pamphlet, but her sister was busy hiding her face in Melody's lap, her body trembling. Melody placed a hand on Echo's head, singing softly to get her to sleep. She flipped through the pages, wondering if it would truly be better to send Echo to a place like this. Isolated in the mountains, where she could recuperate at her own pace. Melody would not make this decision without Doll, she decided. Wei was leaving it up to them, but it was clear Echo could not continue like this, confined to the one room in the VH. It would be safer for her there, where Lipidus would not be able to find her.
Sometimes, when demons could not recuperate from their injuries but did not qualify for birthing, they were sent to places like these. Melody had heard of them before, but had never seen one for herself. It was essentially a place demons were sent to and did not come back from, a place where they could be free to recover as best as they could under the watchful eye of humans. Sometimes, they did come back, but it was rare. "Hawk will come visit you," Melody offered, since the two were still contracted to one another. She felt saddened, seeing the little demon like this. Echo had been so spunky and sassy, so full of life. Now she could barely stutter a sentence without crying. Melody glanced at the cover of the pamphlet once more, a picture of a human nurse wheeling a smiling demon down the hall of their facility. This was the best decision she could make for Echo, as her sister and someone who cared for her.
"M-Mel," Echo suddenly squeaked, Melody sitting upright at attention. "What is it? What's wrong?" Echo looked up, tears in her eyes. "D-do-don't lea-leave m-me." Melody nodded, pulling Echo onto her lap. "Don't worry, I won't. I promise, no one will take you from us again."
To the side, Viola could see Oliver and Elise dancing together. He held her tenderly and the two were locking eyes with one another. It was clear that they had mutual interest. They had been attached at the hip ever since the first day at Luis Reamus's lab, so it was no surprise that it was going to be like this now. The hybrids had learned not to fall in love, but now neither of them were constrained by a short lifespan. They were free to love as they wished now. "Confess already." Vi whispered to herself, too low for them to here. Riven went off to dance with other, important people, and Julia found Vi, keeping her close. "Don't do anything risky."
"Let's dance. I don't care if it's risky, we're sisters!" Viola masked the topic of conversation to something else instead, pretending Julia was referring to the fact that two women usually weren't supposed to dance with each other. It was already seen as a bit odd that Viola and Riven were so intimately close. Julia rolled her eyes in the exact same way Viola did, and took her by the hand. "Of course, I'm leading." She said with a half smile, taking the man's role in the dance. Sweet Pea was at the reception table, helping herself to food. Gregore was at the bar, serving drinks to all those who wanted to let go a little. Alty looked bored even as fancy looking vampires in dresses kept asking him for dances.
Here was the crucial moment. The Duke of Sussex got a drink from Gregore, one for himself, another for Queen Iflet. He had spiked it with laxatives in order to humiliate her, but naturally before the ball began, Viola had swapped the pills in his bottle for silver-laced arsenic pills instead, fatal to all vampires who ingested it. It would kill Iflet easily and frame the Duke of Sussex for the murder. It would be a very clean assassination. Iflet took the drink, giving him a weird look. "I'm thirsty, so I'll drink too." Viola said with a grin, wanting to get closer to see this go down. Julia gave her a stare but Vi slipped into the crowd of dancing bodies before her sister could pull her back.
With a prancing lady (a special drink Gregore invented) in hand, Viola took a drink. It tasted weird but she decided to ignore it. Alcohol always did taste weird to her. Iflet took a sip as well, but nothing seemed to be happening to her. Did the poison not work? Did she see it coming and plan against it? The Duke of Sussex was watching her carefully, waiting but then suddenly Viola felt her throat and chest burning. She fell to her knees, trying to vomit but it wouldn't work, it was leaking out her throat instead. Iflet had stopped time and swapped the drinks, but no one knew this but her. "The Duke of Sussex." Iflet said with a sly little smile. "I believe this is an assassination attempt. You murdered an honored guest. Lord Brother, how will we deal with the traitor?
It really was two birds with one stone. A political enemy and Riven's most vocal supporter taken out in one fell swoop.
Riven and Kitra had finished dancing when Iflet's cries reached their ear. Riven turned, her stomach dropping. "No," she abandoned the Baroness and went to Viola's side, her heart pounding in her ears. "No, no," she fell to her knees, but Viola had blood dripping out of every orifice in her body. "Viola, stay with me." Riven begged, holding the newly turned vampire close. An unexpected cry came from across the ballroom, Iflet's clever smile slowly falling. She had been skewered through the throat, the large chandelier crashing to the ground. Riven shielded Viola with her body, pieces of crystal hitting her back and cutting through her dress. She would be fine, but Vi, Vi was dying. "Lilim!" Kitra yelled as the Duke of Sussex was apprehended.
His eyes were wide with panic. Lilim ran to Viola's sides, her hands glowing. Gavyn was screaming as he ran to hold Iflet, but a vampire whose head was detached from their neck could not heal. Had the chandelier falling been a freak accident? Riven didn't know. Lilim placed her hand against Viola's chest, attempting to heal her. "Please work," she begged. The other vampires were fleeing for their lives, fearing that the other chandeliers may fall. Riven turned, noticing Baron Lipidus on the side, his hand clenched. Had he done it? Had he killed Iflet? Someone could have compelled him, but he seemed to have done it of his own accord. Revenge for Echo? Fury for having been manipulated by the vampire?
"Can you heal her?" Riven asked, but Lilim shook her head. "I can only slow its progress," she revealed, biting down on her lip. Julia appeared at Viola's other side, ripping her out of Riven's grip. "No, Vi, no not you. Please, don't leave me!" Julia begged. Riven rose, feeling as though she had swallowed a bag of rocks. She was dizzy as she stood at her full height, which wasn't much. "I know one person who might be able to fix her," Alty said quietly. "But you might not agree to it, considering Iflet is dead." Who was he referring to? Riven wondered, this was no time for cliff hangers. "Take me to them," Alty pointed over his shoulder, to where Baron Messiah stood, faceless, observing. Riven marched up to him, pushing aside her fear. "Can you fix Viola?" She inquired, her voice soft, hopeful. "Please?"
Meanwhile, Dominic had been working on releasing everyone in the basement while the chaos upstairs ensued. He cut through the cuffs binding Doll and Christopher to the wall. Doll was injured, having taken the brunt of Iflet's questioning in order to spare her human. "Thanks," Christopher stood, rubbing his wrists. He helped Doll up, lifting her into his arms. "The exit is that way, run and don't look back," the next person he freed was Hawk, who ran without so much as a thank you, following Doll, knowing she would take her to Echo. There was one thing that Dominic most definitely had not been expecting to see and that was a baby.
It was probably an obvious fact but really, it did not feel good to have your insides melted apart. It did not feel good to be disintegrated from the inside out. It did not feel good to have the acid drink burning you up, melting and tearing apart your body and flesh. Her fate was sealed, she was going to die and she was gurgling on so much blood she wasn't even able to speak or say any last words. It wasn't how she thought she would die. Vi wasn't really afraid as she had always been prepared for the possibility. "Julia, don't cry, I'm okay with it, really." She tried to say but the gurgling was all she could muster. Julia was wailing, clinging to her like one would a life buoy at sea.
Elise looked pale and frozen as she stared at her. Oliver pulled her into his chest, not letting her see. Good, Viola thought, Elise was so beautiful she didn't deserve to have her eyes stained by a wretch like her. Riven was there, pleading, desperate, like she always would but she would be fine. "Be a strong Queen! Make people swoon!" Viola would have said to Riven had she not been choking on her own blood and vomit. Iflet was dead too, her Officers and Gavyn all crying for her. Vampires could survive a little as a head but Iflet without lungs was in the same problem Vi had. Unable to speak or impart any last words for anyone. Gavyn and Iflet stared into each other's eyes, siblings who would have to be parted forever.
"No." Baron Messiah said at last, after some ruminating. "I won't pick sides until the victor is confirmed." The faceless Baron gestured to two vampires. Riven and Gavyn Seylum would now finally have their fight. "You two are to fight to the death Whoever lives, I will save their loved one." A pink shard shattered in his grip, seemingly freezing both Iflet's head and Viola's body in time to allow Riven and Gavyn to have their fight. "This succession war has gone on long enough. I give my best wishes to the both of you." All eyes now were on Gavyn and Riven. Now was the time to fight for the one they loved. Who held their family dearest to their heart? Who had the conviction to save their family?
Amethyst eyes, dull and confused, stared out at nothing. The baby coughed, her breathing faint as she struggled to keep alive. Dominic had a feeling he knew who this was. "You have to be Fluorspar. Echo's old partner. We heard all about you... and what they were doing." Echo was Baron Lipidus's bride, and Flo was used to provide time crystals for the vampires to use in their war, allowing them to stop time and evade death to try and fight again another day. She squeezed herself into a tiny ball as Dominic approached. "Hey. It's okay. I'm not going to-" Pink wings slashed at his hands, cutting into his palm. She was shaking, she must have been terrified. Dom peeled his shirt back, revealing all of his scars accumulated through the years. He calmly told the stories of each incision Luis Reamus gave him, each step of the experiment. "I'm similar to you." He said gently. "Let's go home. Echo needs you."
He would fix one of them, he would fix one of their friends. Riven whirled around, knowing what she had to do. Gavyn too, turned, his eyes steady. "Riven-" but he stopped before he could utter another word, the world around her spinning, her vision narrowing to focus only on him. She slashed his chest open with her nails, her eyes red and feral. She could order him to stand down, but Riven would do no such thing. He grinned, stepping back. "I guess I have to take this seriously," he threw off his jacket, Riven tearing off the train on her gown. She could hear Elise shudder at the sound of ripping fabric, but there were more important things at hand then dresses and jackets. "Save it for someone who cares," she hissed, ripping off a piece of the chandelier.
The end had a fragment of crystal on it. Gavyn pulled out a sword, the two clashing, far too swift for any human eyes to be able to follow their battle. There were cuts on both of them, Gavyn threw his sword aside and lunged, grabbing her throat. "Let go!" Riven ordered, turning her hand into a rail gun. She placed it against his chest, the light blinding. Gavn's middle was disintegrated, but he regenerated quickly, lunging once more. This time she turned both of her arms into swords, meeting his parry. His sword sliced into her leg, but not deep enough to detach it. She leaped, coming at him from the air. "I won't lose!" She screamed as she hit him in the face, sending him flying into the wall.
Gavyn burst forward, "Neither will I!" Both were desperate to save their most loyal and trusted companion. Perhaps Messiah's plan was to have them kill one another. Their swords clashed again, Gavyn's sticking into Riven's side. "I knew you would kill me eventually," he grinned, "I was always ready!" Riven shook her head, "You don't deserve that crown you fraud!" She screamed, her sword slicing through his neck the same moment his pierced her chest. She fell, coughing, blood trickling from her mouth. Gavyn's head rolled, the rest of his body collapsing before her, his blood squirting across her gown. It was a scene from a horror movie, somewhere behind them, Slaine was retching into a bucket. Riven pulled Gavyn's sword out, her hands shaking.
"I won," she rose on trembling legs. "I won, so you have to heal Viola!" She had taken her crown back in front of all vampire royalty, declaring her strength and dominance. Athena picked up the fallen crown, placing it on Riven's head. "All hail your new Queen!" No longer Princess Riven, but Queen Riven. "May she live a thousand tireless years!" Their guests echoed, their voices a mix of frightened and impressed. Riven was exhausted, her breath heaving as her wounds healed. She stumbled to the throne, sitting down in it. She looked across the ruined ballroom, at the frightened and begrudging faces of her followers. She had dreamed of this day for a long time and yet, her heart felt heavy. Would Baron Messiah make good on his promise and heal Viola?
Riven and Gavyn had a glorious fight, a fight that would go down in legend, in history, something unparalleled even in the eyes of many of the vampires who were watching. This was about the future of vampires altogether, but for the two involved in the fight, it wasn't about that at all but rather about their love for those who were about to die. Baron Messiah was only going to save one, so they had to fight to the death to decide who would be rescued from the brink of death. The crowd ooohd and aaaahd as Riven and Gavyn crossed blades. He knew abotut the betrayal the whole time, but a part of Gavyn was hoping that Riven and the others would choose not to do it, would choose to accept his welcome into the family. They could have all worked together as one, but instead from the beginning the people Gavyn wanted to befriend had been enemies the whole time. Because of his naive faith, he lost his sister, the girl who dirtied her hands and sold her soul for the sake of protecting him.
And as his body lost all strength, as his blood flooded the floor, Gavyn realized that in the end, Iflet had done everything for him and he never onece was able to pay her back for all of her sacrifices. She kept his hands clean, she kept him ruling with a kind heart. She never gave up on him. And now because he wanted to bring back the Seylum's family glory, the very person he searched for was the one responsible for killing him and Iflet off like bugs in the sand. Riven was crowned winner, she sat in the throne. Baron Messiah was never one to break his word. If he was going to fix someone, that was precisely what he would do. He opened his hand and a light spread, intending to fix Viola's broken body. He could even turn her back full human but chose to allow her to live as a vampire.
A black spike burst out of the ground, tearing Viola out of Messiah's hands. Iflet was still alive, using the last of her power to fight. Her eyes were fixed on Riven's and she smiled. "You killed my brother." She would have set as she closed her eyes. "So I'll take away from you too." Baron Messiah sighed, picking her up again to begin the light reversion and bring Viola back to how she should be. "You vampires never change." Baron Messiah sighed, putting Viola back down. She wasn't breathing. She wasn't moving at all. "I should take responsibility for this. I should have known Iflet would get revenge for Gavyn." Because Iflet knocked Viola out of his hands, she was ripped out of the time stop and thus she perished naturally as the acid destroyed her.
A scream. It was Julia's as she reached for her flesh and blood sister's body, as if by squeezing it it could come back to life. A broken sob. It was Elise as she clung to Oliver's shirt in desperation. A frown of empathy. Ktira knew what it was like to lose someone. Tears splashing onto the ground. Lilim hated death, even now she didn't like it. "My apologies, Queen Riven." Baron Messiah seemed to mean it as he bowed deeply in front of her. "I intended to keep my word." But in the end, Iflet had the last laugh. With a face of cruel triumph she closed her eyes and passed on to whatever was next.
Dread settled in the pit of her stomach. Riven felt numb, she slumped over the throne, her nails digging into the arm rest of the chair. Her chest felt strange, her entire body a mix of hot and cold. "Please leave," she whispered, biting down on her lip to hold back tears. "Everyone out!" Her fist slammed against the chair, reverberating against the ground. The ballroom began to clear, save for the few that Riven trusted most. Julia held the remains of Viola's body, rocking as she cried. Elise too, was sobbing, Oliver holding her close. Viola was the first human that had ever been kind to her. Now, she was gone, for the second time, only permanently. "Riven," Athena spoke softly from beside her. "You should go to bed, I'll clean this mess up."
Elise walked up to the throne, setting over her's. "Come," she said softly, breath hitching in her throat. "Let's go upstairs," Elise led Riven, who could not recall the bath, nor Elise's gentle manor as she scrubbed the blood off of her. She remembered sleep, her only solace from the pain that ate her alive. This was her fault, she recalled between wakefulness. Riven had killed Viola, Riven was the one who had brought her here and sealed her fate. Her sleep was dreamless, save for the soft voices that occasionally whispered by her side. Riven did not care for their words, she clung to the darkness, embracing its soft tremble.
"Awake?" A voice inquired, Riven felt warm as she sat upright, the sunlight filtering into the room. "You've been asleep for nearly a week," Kitra was sitting on a chair, eating an apple. "Did they bury her?" Riven asked softly, "yes." Kitra rose, "I know what it's like to lose the thing you love most in the world. I do not pity you," she sat on the bed, the mattress dipping beneath her weight. "You'll have what I promised, I will help you find your Celeste." Kitra nodded, "I appreciate that, my Queen." She yawned, "We've withdrawn our forces, as you decreed." Riven had yet to make the declaration, but it seemed that Kitra had done so in her stead. "Thank you," Riven said softly. There was a knock on the door, Elise stood on the other side. "Riven?" She asked from behind the wooden wall. "Come in," the door swung open, Elise was not alone.
Athena entered beside her, Slaine wheeling in breakfast. "Awake at last?" Athena inquired, her oldest and most loyal friend. "Yes," Riven took the glass of blood gratefully, the taste sweet on her tongue. When she dressed, she instinctively looked for the contract mark, finding that it was gone. "Christopher Delanore and Doll King escaped the night of the ball," Athena reported. "The basement is ours once more, which will be nice for our influx of guests." Riven nodded, listening, but barely. "The preparations for your coronation are already underway."
They had won. It was all over. Now the vampire's chapter of the Third Impact could come to a close. With the vampires retiring, perhaps this meant the humans could finally retake Berlin and end the Third Impact once and for all. Instead of costing thousands of lives, the price paid in this war was one girl who always liked to dream that maybe something could be better. Viola Rosenkrantz was dead and gone, Iflet wouldn't let her live after they slaughtered her brother like an animal. The new Queen Riven had gone to sleep to grieve for a week, so Viola was buried and she had a small ceremony for her family. Riven missed the ceremony, but everyone present - Dominic, Elise, Oliver, and Jacob who Kitra had brought back out of the safety of her castle in Hell - were all there. They allowed Julia to be there too, as she was flesh and blood.
For now they could enjoy peace but already plans were being made. The humans were not the victims, they had perpetrated their own crimes. Stealing Princess Celeste away from her family and loved ones, stealing the Orgia away from the vampires. The humans would have to pay for both of those crimes and Riven had made her promises to saving them both, one way or another. Queen Kitra sighed, shaking her head. Queen Riven was finally awake. "What a mess, Lilim." She knew what it was like of course. She and Lilim were forced to watch as a large part of their family were killed one after another, to their own faults, to the Angel army. "Yeah. Let's go check on the Coronation before we go back to to Berlin?" The little succubus - well, in truth she was half angel and not truly a succubus - nodded her head to her own question.
The sun was shining, it was a new day but Elise did not feel warm. She was going to tell Oliver how she felt once the battle was over. Now, she wasn't sure if she ever would. It wouldn't feel right to start a new romance after losing someone so dear to her. "No, I can't complain." She sighed, feeling a heavy weight deep in her chest. "No one's suffering more than Riven right now." She walked towards Riven's throne room, as one of her family she was one of the few allowed in since right now no guests were permitted into the Throne Room. "I made your coronation dress. Sweet Pea helped me out." Elise held it up for Riven to enjoy. "I also have the final word from Dominic."
She had talked to Dominic about this throughout the past week but the big brother of the family made his decision. "He says he doesn't want to become a vampire. He would rather remain as is so that one day he can go to where Clara is waiting for him. Viola too, is probably there." Dominic wasn't in a good state for a long time now. Suddenly Jacob stormed in, with a big great smile on his face and a horribly done painting. "I decided!" Jacob announced with a grin, an odd impossible existence, someone who was immune to vampires. "I'm going to learn how to paint and decorate these halls with our memories, if that's okay, Queen?" IT seemed he was going to stay here even if he was just a normal human now. "Your drawing is awful." Elise said with a half smile. Jacob shrugged. "I have plenty of time to improve. If I work really hard, I'll make it." He wanted to make the halls of Castle Seylum a happier place, he was tired of mourning.
"Do you... want to visit Viola?" Elise asked Riven, worry in her eyes. "We can take you to the grave before the Coronation?"
Riven brushed the sleep from her eyes and ran a brush through her hair as Kitra spoke to her. She too, knew of loss. They had all lost someone close to them. Riven was aware of this, so why did her chest constrict so? Could it be... had she been in love with Viola? Now Riven would never know the answer. "I have no right to mourn her," Riven did not know if Viola had ever felt the same. If Viola had even truly liked her, or if she had been using Riven the entire time to achieve her goal of vampire hood. "Because Viola would have never wanted us to cry over her death." She imagined that foolish grin, the half smile and droopy eyes whenever Viola was telling a joke. Oddly enough, Riven smiled at the memory. Even if it hurt, she knew that Viola would not want her to cry.
"The humans will pay for their crimes soon enough, but for the time being, it would be best for all of us to simply disappear." The humans had been using demons to perform their bidding for generations. It would be unfair of Riven to ask Kitra to withdraw her forces. No, Riven had no place in that war. Kitra could take the reigns from here, she knew what she had to do, but Riven's forces would assist from the side. They were still allies after all and she would deliver on her promise in helping find the angel. Riven had never met one before, because vampires did not go to Heaven. They were not allowed admission through the gate, the undead had no place in Heaven. Not that Riven cared, she had an empire to rule after all, she would not die so quickly.
Riven left her bedroom, going to oversee the preparations for her coronation. It was this evening, after all. She had slept the week away and Athena had been busy making preparations. Riven felt a tug on her dress and turned around, finding the boy, Kaito. Her shoulders sunk, her heart clenching painfully. "Hello Kaito," she said softly. His shoulders shook, clearly fearful. "Kaito, would you like to go home?" She asked, the boy vigorously shaking his head. "This is my home!" He cried, "why did you kill Gavyn! He never did anything wrong!" Kaito was taller than her by an inch, but Riven was wearing heels. She placed a hand on his shoulder, not wanting to sully Kaito's image of Gavyn, but knowing it had to be done.
"He was not the person you thought him to be. He killed a lot of innocent people. Your parents may have been victims, for all we know." Kaito shook his head, tears welling up in his eyes. "I knew that, I knew he wasn't good... but he was the only person who was ever nice to me." Riven softened, she held out her hand, offering it for him to take. "Kaito, how do you feel about working at the hotel?" He took her hand, looking up at her with hope in his eyes. "No one will ever bite you again," she promised, his lower lip trembling. This was just a child, the fact that one so young had been made a blood servant sickened her.
He followed her to the throne room, where Slaine was setting up. "Slaine, you now have an apprentice." The dhampire started, nearly tripping over himself. "Treat him well," he nodded, seeming a bit dizzy from the near fall. Riven walked over to the throne, which had been cleaned of blood. She should have asked Viola to dance, she regretted. After all, they had spent that entire time practicing. She sat in the chair, feeling no different than she had one week ago. There was no sudden immense power that coursed through her, no burst of knowledge or insight. "King Seylum, please give me the strength to get through these next few days." The doors to the throne room opened, Elise entering.
She was carrying a garment bag, the dress safely contained until it was time. "Thank you Elise and thank Sweet Pea for me too," she attempted to smile, but it was awkward. Riven had not spent a lot of time smiling, she had always been burdened by something. "If that's what Dominic wants, then we have no right to stop him," she shook her head. "It's fine if he wants to remain here, where he can be free, but I won't stop him if he chooses to leave." If Dominic wanted to go back and rejoin the human world, that would be his prerogative.
The doors burst open once more, Jacob came in, wearing a silly grin. His time in Hell had served him well, he was healed and seemed happier. Riven couldn't help but laugh at their bickering, it was just so... ridiculous. The sound was light hearted and flitted through the room. "Yes Jacob, I give you full permission to paint the walls." She smiled, which fell quickly when Elise asked if she wanted to see the grave. "Yes," Riven rose, "please take me to it."
Doll and Christopher returned to the VH, along with an armada of agents they had rescued. Their injuries were minor, for the most part, Iflet had only inflicted mild torture upon them, she had been busy with Jacob. Melody went to see Doll, of course, while Flame went to check on Christopher. "I'm so glad you're okay!" Melody cried, throwing her arms around her sister. "We did it," Doll smiled, she couldn't wait to see Sonata. "Everything went according to plan, well, except that." Doll gestured to the rocker across from the room. Melody released her sister and rose to glance inside, her eyes widening. Pink hair, pink eyes, it was obvious who the baby was. "H-how?! I thought Flo was dead!" Doll shook her head, "it's a long story, but I gathered most of it from Hawk." Doll went to the drawer, pulling out a pink shard. "Messiah told me to use this to turn her back to her real age, I don't know why. He seemed to bear no grudge against her."
Doll rose, limping towards the cradle. "I'm sorry we couldn't rescue you sooner," she whispered to the sleeping infant and crushed the shard above her, the glittering remains falling across the child. They waited, but nothing happened. "He said it could take a few hours," Doll scratched the back of her head. They carefully moved Flo to the bed, so that she would have room to grow. "How's Echo?" The eldest of the Kings inquired. "Not well," Melody admitted softly. She began to tear up, sobbing as she told Doll the details of what Wei had said to her. Doll's stomach tugged, "I'm going to see her." She rose, Melody putting an arm around her sister to support her, leading her to the secure halls of the holding cells, where Echo was kept. It was for her own protection that she was there, just in case an unwanted Baron made an appearance.
"Echo?" Doll asked softly, the room kept brightly lit, for the most part, since Echo was afraid of the dark. She was laying in the corner of the bed, curled up, the machine thrumming softly as food was automatically pushed into her tummy. "Hey, it's me," Doll sat on the edge of the mattress, lifting up the blanket where Echo was hiding. The reaction was instant, the smaller demon whimpered, attempting to make herself smaller. "It's just me, it's your sister, Doll." She reached out, but Echo flinched away, tears welling up in the smaller demon's eyes. "She always does this," Melody said softly. She and Fox spent a lot of time in this room, trying to get Echo to come out of hiding. "She barely talks, can't look anyone in the eye, and refuses to eat." Melody lifted up the pamphlet Wei had given her, showing it to Doll.
The eldest King's hands shook as she read through it, knowing that this might be the best choice. Echo would be safe there, where she could sleep in and never be bossed around. "It might be time," Doll agreed softly, glancing between Echo and the picture of smiling demons. A knock on the door made Echo sob in fear, cowering beneath the blanket once more. "Is she here?" Hawk asked, voice apprehensive. Doll replied softly, but loud enough that Hawk could hear and moved to make room for the vampire. "Echo, it's me." Miraculously, Echo nudged the blanket enough to poke one eye out. "H-Haw-k-k?" She stuttered, as though she were afraid it were too good to be true. Hawk nodded and drew Echo into her arms, the demon flinching, unable to relax while being held, but it was clear she was making a visible effort.
Melody spoke quietly as she explained to Hawk what had been told to her. Echo would not recover, she would not be able to return to work. She was far too fragile, when Shiro had tested her mental health, she had failed each time.
The vampire left the room without saying anything, seeking out Wei. Hawk silently signed the paperwork, dissolving her's and Echo's contract.
Echo was officially retired.
"We'll visit you as often as we can," Melody promised, her voice soft. Doll nodded, a heavy weight in her chest. She couldn't help but feel that this was somehow her fault. "Once a month, at least," the eldest sibling promised. Echo said nothing, merely trembling in their grip. "You were a great agent," Wei spoke as he administered the sedatives, transporting Echo in this state would be far too stressful on her little body and quite frankly, Wei did not think she could handle much more without risking a heart attack. Echo fell asleep without much fanfare and was strapped to a stretcher for the transfer.
Echo spent the first days in and out of sleep, allowing her senses to slowly acclimate to her surroundings. When she came to at last she was confused and afraid. It was a new room; the window was large, a landscape of snowy covered peaks and steep valleys. They were atop a mountain, in a brand new building that blended into the hillside. She was wearing pink pajamas with white polka dots on them, a tag around her neck to identify her. The room was medium sized, the bed the same one you would find in a hospital. There was a wheelchair tucked in the corner and a table that could easily be pushed around. The walls were a soft yellow and were unadorned. Terror clutched her heart, new surroundings feeling wholly unwelcome. Where was she? Why was she here? Echo didn't understand. She had been thrown away again, hadn't she? Hawk had thrown her away, Melody and Doll had sent her here.
"I-I'm bro-broken... ar-ar-aren't I?" Her voice echoed in the empty room. A knock on the door made her stiffen. "N-no," she whimpered as it opened, revealing a nurse in scrubs patterned with baby animals. "Hello Echo," her voice was soft. She was a demon, judging by the horns that poked out of her hair and her tail. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I saw you were up and came to check on you," her voice was barely above a whisper and yet, Echo trembled, curling up in fear. "No one is going to hurt you here, you're safe." She smiled, picking up a hair brush to run through Echo's hair. When she finished she set the brush down and opened up a suitcase, personal belongings that her sisters had sent along with her. "Melody wanted me to make sure you had this," it was a brown teddy bear, worn with age, its smile hand stitched. Echo's eyes brimmed with tears once more again as she reached for it, hands shaking. "And Doll wanted you to have this," it was a framed picture of the three sisters and their humans, a rare peaceful moment where they smiled for the camera.
She hugged the bear against herself, able to catch a whiff of Melody's favorite cotton candy-scented perfume.
They really had thrown her away, hadn't they?
❝One day we'll look at the sky and think that it was a wonderful day.❞
Covered by a thin blanket of snow already, the most beautiful headstone in the Seylum Graveyard was one engraved with a new name. Viola Rosenkrantz was the name and she was already buried six feet under. Many things lay at the base of the headstone. Her old knives, a coloring book, a new drink on Gregore's drink menu, hair clips, pictures of her performance during the only runway she was ever allowed to walk. Elise stood there and let Riven have her moment of silence. "Viola was always the type to hide her feelings in plain sight." Elise said with a little smile. Was it appropriate to talk about? Would it only make the pain worse? Even so, the budding new stylist wanted Riven to know. "She was great at telling truths, but in a joking manner so no one would take it as true." She offered Riven a squeeze of the hand. "Probably... Viola loved you just as much as she said. She probably never told you, because she always knew she was going to die." All the hybrids knew it, because hybrids were destined to die. Even now Elise wasn't sure if she wanted to become real with Oliver or not.
"However brief it was, thank you for loving her too."
In the castle's parlor, Alty was drinking a drink. He made a face, and shook his head. "No, it's a little too sweet." He did not seem to enjoy it. Dominic smirked, downing it easily. "I don't know, it's a girly drink but it's pretty good. I can barely taste the alcohol." Gregore let out a hearty laugh. "What alcohol? This new drink is just fruit juices mixed with sparkling water and a hint of ginger." His eyes widened when the doors opened, revealing Elise and Riven doing one last walk of the place. "Oh, my." The three drinkers bowed for Queen Riven when suddenly Gregore grinned, mixing together a glass. "Here. No alcohol, promise. It's a new drink. Dominic helped me come up with the idea." Dominic looked at Riven for a long time, seeing her as a sister, as a friend. "I named it Insane German." He said quietly, trying his best to smile like he always used to. "I hope you like it, Riven. We worked on it together."
"Don't worry about us trying for revenge or anything." Nifa and Ronoue too, did not seem to want to. Alty smiled, looking almost tired of it all. "Seeing Jacob work so hard at painting ugly pieces of crap makes me think, maybe it's okay to be bad at something. He's got no shame about it." The vampire always wanted to be respected, to be considered good at something. "I've got plenty of time... to find something." Gregore nodded, seeming at peace. "Don't worry, Queen. All of us former Iflet Officers talked together and agreed that we'll swear loyalty to you and help serve you." A part of the bartender hoped that one day, they could be like family to Riven and help mend the wound their Queen suffered that horrible day.
The doors opened again. It was someone no one expected. "Wait, Julia!" Sweet Pea tried to pull her back. "Athena only told me to call her! Should you be..." The room was tense as Julia stared Riven down, grimacing. The elder sister had been in pain as well. "If you never involved her, she wouldn't have died. It was your fault." Julia bit her lip, shaking. "You dragged her into this mess." Both Dom and Elise growled, suddenly angry and defensive. "But I'm responsible too. If I never smuggled her out and kept her here as my blood servant, she would still be alive." Julia shut her eyes tight, then released her breath, and with it, her hatred. "We both made out choices and because of it, Viola probably had a wonderful year of happiness she wouldn't have had otherwise. The fact she died so beloved is probably a miracle." Julia's expression softened at last. "Let's get along. If you'll have me... I'll serve you as loyally as anyone... my Queen." Sweet Pea looked very relieved. "I'm not a fighter, but I can make great tea parties!" She offered, the cute little vampire grinning from ear to ear.
Suddenly Oliver arrived, seeming almost annoyed. "What's taking so long? Athena says you're five minutes late." The demon hooked his thumb behind him. "Riven, go get changed! The Coronation ceremony's already starting!"
Riven stood quietly in front of the grave. As a vampire, she had no right to pray. If there was a lord above, though, Riven wished a peaceful slumber for Viola. "Thank you, Elise," Riven spoke softly. "I wish it could have been for much longer," her heart squeezed painfully against her rib cage. She picked a rose from a nearby bush, placing it atop the gravestone. Roses, in the language of flowers, meant eternal love. "I'm sorry Viola," she whispered. "I will do right by you," Riven promised. She turned back towards Elise, "it's getting cold, let's go back inside." It seemed that Viola had plenty of visitors. Even if she was in the ground, she would remain alive in their hearts and memories. In a joke they told, they would see her, in the shadow out of the corner of their eyes, they would swear she was there. Viola was gone in body only, she would love on for eternity in the legacy she helped build.
Perhaps one day, Riven would love again, but she did not think that would be for a very long time.
They headed into the castle, soon the halls would be filled with guests, vampires and demons from both near and far. Kitra was seeing to security, there would be no deaths tonight, in this celebration of life. They headed towards the dining room, where Gregore was mixing drinks. "I am glad you all bear no ill will towards me," she spoke softly. "And I truly am sorry that I had to kill Iflet." No, actually, Riven was not sorry; that was a lie. She would kill Iflet again and again, if she had to. If Iflet stood before her now, Riven would not hesitate to strike her where she stood. Those two had been buried in the Seylum family graveyard, Riven had noticed, even if she was not happy about it. "Thank you for your loyalty." She raised the glass, subtly taking a sniff before she sipped it.
It was fruity on her tongue, delightful, actually. "This is good," Riven said, a bit surprised. The doors burst open, Julia striding towards her, Sweet Pea running behind, attempting to keep up. Riven turned to face her, expecting to be slapped, to be hit, to be yelled at, something. She wanted Julia to hate her because in truth, Riven hated herself as well. "I'm sorry," Riven spoke softly. "I promised her safety, I promised her a long life as a vampire. I could not deliver on either," she looked up at the ceiling, blinking back tears. "I hope, that in the end, she died knowing that we both loved her." She looked back down, surprised to see that Julia was devoting herself to the Queen, that Sweet Pea too, declared her loyalty. "Thank you, both of you."
Oliver burst inside, seeming angry. Riven tensed, realizing the time. "I'm going!" She ran off, Elise chasing after her. They took the servant staircase, escaping to the bedroom, where Elise helped Riven prepare. The dress was spectacular of course. "Elise, I think this is by far, your finest creation." Elise blushed, giggling, she too was dressed for the coronation. A knock on the door drew them both out of it. "Excuse me, Riven?" Athena poked her head inside, "it's time." Riven nodded and rose, gathering the skirt of the dress in her hands. She felt nervous, waiting outside of the hall, her heart thrumming in her chest. "It's going to be okay," Riven turned, but there was no one standing there. Had she imagined it? Or was Viola just outside of her line of sight, smiling down at her?
Riven turned, attempting to compose herself. She took in a deep breath as the doors to the throne room opened. "All rise!" In unison, they rose, turning to face her. Riven stood up straighter, she held her breath as she walked carefully, aware that every single pair of eyes was watching her, scrutinizing her, perhaps even envying her. As Riven reached the alter, she pricked her finger on the ceremonial knife, her blood flowing down into the goblet, where the blood of so many Kings and Queens before her had once flowed. Baron Messiah lifted the crown off of a red velvet pillow, it was smaller, nowhere near as gaudy as King Seylum's had been. It was perfect, she decided as he placed it on her head, a perfect fit. Slowly, the pink haired vampire turned, facing her audience.
"Long live Queen Riven!"
Re: Mirrored
Can i reserve human #2
If this is still active.
Yakumo from Psychic Detective
Re: Mirrored
No problem! For names I used behindthename.com and just clicked "random," until I saw something I liked.
Re: Mirrored
Okay, thank you for answering that for me! Just was trying to get an idea of the region before I started drawing up my character as it helps with naming and such. :)
Re: Mirrored
It's sort of a mix, the culture is medieval but the technology is futuristic. Every region is different though, I will leave it up to you guys to decide what you want Castiva to be like.
Re: Mirrored
I have two quick questions involving the region of Castiva and its people: So would there be any sort of specific culture that the people of the region would fall under and would it be a more of a medieval setting or would it differ?
Re: Mirrored
@ઽ૮૨α, yes thank you for joining!
Re: Mirrored
May I reserve the youngest son role?
His Fc will be Yato from Norigami
Image
Re: Mirrored
Okay thanks for clarifying!
Re: Mirrored
@Angel_Eyes, all humans are from Earth. There is such a thing as a shell, or a person born without magic but they're usually killed by their families because it's shameful.
Re: Mirrored
Question: are all the humans from another world? Did they all fall through into this world at some point in the past? Or do they all originate from this world??
Re: Mirrored
@Seraphim, thank you for joining :D
Re: Mirrored
Hey there!
I'd like to see if I could reserve the Eldest Sister for this roleplay and if you'd allow it I would like my face claim to Kurisu Makise from Steins Gate though if you had something in mind for the character I am willing to change it.
Image
Re: Mirrored
@Mei, yes thank you for joining!
Re: Mirrored
May I reserve The Youngest Daughter?
My FC would be Taiga Aisaka.
Re: Mirrored
@Angel_Eyes, thank you for joining, your spot has been reserved!
Re: Mirrored
I would be interested in reserving human one, the one that serves the youngest two :) I love the idea of falling into a world through a mirror :)
If you'd allow it, I would chose female as my characters gender and her face claim would be "Asako Natsume"
Image
Re: Mirrored
@Byte, yes you may! I will post details when I get the CS up, but for now I have to leave to school.
Re: Mirrored
Ignore Post
Re: Mirrored
May I reserve the Eldest Son?
Image
My face claim will be Shiroe from Log Horizon.
Anyway, a couple of questions. Is there a set age, or age range you'd like me to stick with? Might be important to know. =P
And... What about their primary magic? Can we just go with whatever? Are there any dos and don'ts?
