"Mother? Do you mean... Mystique?" Wynne asked.

Tobias’ brows raised as he looked at her in curiosity before it had sunken in. Of course, Wynne, might not have known about his connection to Raven like some of the other people at the academy. It wasn’t something that he openly broadcasted or anything, but like any building with a lot of busy bodies, information spreads fast.

He adjust in his wheelchair, holding his bandaged wound with his right hand as he did. Tobias sighed at his own incapacitation before looking over at Wynne and nodding his head. "Yes. She’s not actually my mother. I never knew my mother. But where my father didn’t raise me… Raven did."

Tobias never liked the negative outlook people had on his mother. He knew her true nature that no one else got to see and he was always willing to speak about her in a new light. Sadly, most people didn’t believe him that his mother was a good person beneath everything else. But when Magneto wants you to do something you do it… Or you die.

"She's a good person..." He wanted to carry on, mention how she was a good woman trapped deeper and deeper into a horrible situation. That she wants good in the world, but by tainted means placed in her mind by his father. But it wasn't his place to speak of her to someone who could vary well take this back to those wishing to kill her.

"She's a good person..." At that, Wynne fell silent. Of course the concept of good and bad wasn't fixed - a woman could be a monster to the world and a perfect mother to her son - but any of the Brotherhood was different. The Brotherhood was a threat to both mutants and humans alike, and any association with them was bad. Tobias was no exception, as much as Wynne hated to admit it.

If her father saw her up here, her stance on a Lehnsherr weakening, he'd slap her.

"I'm sure she was," Wynne began, then cut herself off with a sigh. "I'm sorry. I just - it's been a lot to deal with, and I've only been here a day. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about things now that my dad's not here to tell me what's good and what's bad." She laughed, a shaky, high sound. Oh, the irony. Maybe she was always as weak as Warren had thought her to be.

"It's not that I don't want to talk to you," she reassured Tobias, realising how it sounded, like she was a puppet that couldn't stand without her strings. "Maybe let's just... talk about something else. I'm sorry I brought up bad memories."
