appearance:
at 5'8", lyn is taller than most of her female peers. she's thin, but she's considerably stronger than she looks. every bit of bulk on her frame is muscle. her stomach is toned, her legs defined and strong. her frame is boyish, but that's never worried her. with a thin, elf-like face and big blue eyes, her face draws what attention her body doesn't. at times, her face doesn't quite match the rest of her, soft and feminine against her rock hard exterior. in its lifetime, her hair has undergone a number of changes. she cut it short when she was sixteen, and dyed it black when she was seventeen. she's kept it that way since.
personality:
lyn has been described as an... acquired taste. she's sharp tongued, sarcastic, temperamental... everything that her mother told her not to be. she's much quicker to throw a punch than try and resolve something diplomatically. she's a tad reckless at times, facing into things that should terrify her without an inch of fear. she's got a little bit of a reputation as the "bad girl", the girl who talks back to teachers, occasionally gets involved in fights, and is generally pretty intimidating. when people discover that she's been involved in kickboxing since she was five, the fear only increases. lyn has a lot of simmering anger. mostly directed towards her mother, but also to the world in general. she's gotten better at dealing with it, but every so often it surges to the top and destroys everything in it's path.
lyn likes this persona. because at the end of the day, that's what it really is. sure, lyn is temperamental and does have violent tendencies. but beneath the surface, lyn is terrified. about so many things. she's incredibly close to her father, and the thought of losing him as well breaks her heart. the drugs provided a welcome quiet to the constant fear, and in hindsight, might be part of the reason why she became addicted to them. her mother never objected to her taking part in kickboxing, even if she didn't see it as a terribly ladylike thing. lyn was an incredibly anxious child, and the activity was the only thing that helped. lyn is an incredibly loyal friend. she'd do anything to protect them, whether that was kicking the ass of an abusive boyfriend or just bringing over ice cream and the cheesiest movie she could find. she gets what it's like to be afraid, and she hates the thought of anyone else feeling that. she's been known to put her entire persona at risk by standing up for a kid that's being bullied, and she teaches younger kids kickboxing to help them defend themselves. lyn has a terribly soft core, but hates showing it.
emmalyn cecile montgomery was born to her loving parents in the depths of winter. and from that moments, her parents did everything they could to protect their one precious daughter. her childhood was strict, but loving. it was only when she started school that the problems started emerging. her anxiety reared its ugly head and made her life hell. a doctor recommended getting her involved in some activities to try and reduce her social anxiety. there was many she tried, and only one that she stuck with. kickboxing. her mother didn't totally approve, but the improvement in lyn's health started to become visible, and her daughter did love it so. so she allowed it.
but the anxiety never went away. and the older she got, the more she resented her parents. they swaddled her, protected her from everything, and never let her do anything for herself. she was being treated like a baby, and she hated it. she got angrier and angrier, and started acting out by the time she reached her teens. it was small and innocent at first, just hanging out with the wrong people. she tried smoking but didn't like it. by the time she was fifteen, though, things were changing. some older kids had weed, and lyn tried it. and she found she liked it as well. she was hanging out with increasingly worse people and older kids who dragged her into things she was too young for. they made her try heroin when she was sixteen. and lyn felt like it was the perfect act of rebellion.
the addiction wasn't a fast, intense one. she used it at parties, mostly, and functioned perfectly day to day. she was still only using a couple of times a week when her mother died in a sudden and tragic car accident. It was a freak accident, caused by nobody. but it left lyn and her father by themselves. she suddenly came to her sense, and cut off the people that had gotten her started on drugs, going back to her friends who had warned her about them. and yet she found herself craving the drugs like never before. She tried to stay away- but a few nights before the party, she relapsed and became more dependent on the drugs than before. She's terrified she'll never get off of them.
