"I will become stronger. I’m The Dragon Swordsman!"

Image
Name: Cain Azura

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Theme Songs:

Physical Description: Standing at 5"9 inches tall, he tries to look as strong and intimidating as possible. Cain's long red hair falls past his shoulders and down to the base of his spine. He likes to boast and brag about his manly physique. His amber eyes hold a spark of fiery eagerness that hungers to prove himself to the world that he can be just as strong as any warrior Mercenary, or become the hero he feels he was born to be.

Equipment: Draconil: A broadsword measuring five feet in blade length. It has magic runes that enables him to summon armor if he needs it, as well as have enhanced strength and agility for a time. It’s enchantments bind the sword to its Wielder via its soul. Such conditions can be changed by a spell user if they’re powerful enough.

Strengths: Silver Tongue- When outnumbered, he usually tries to talk his way out of a messy situation, but it usually costs him either some of his rations or hard earned coins.

Warrior's Temacity- He does not give up so easily. Knock him back down he gets right back up again for another round or two.

Swordsmanship- he learned how to wield a sword with great fervor and tenacity, making him a known man for his skill.

Weaknesses: Arrogance- He has a bit of a bad habit of oftentimes bragging a bit too much in the middle of a fight. Which usually makes him open to a swift punch to the face.

Berserker- If hard pressed in a fight he lets himself go and fights even more fiercely to win, this does endanger himself and any allies nearby.

Anxieties- He has a slight issue with his anxiety that flares up when he's either very uncomfortable or frustrated, it especially comes when something from his past comes to mind.

Image
Personality: When one meets Cain, expect a warm smile, a welcome handshake, and a loyal friend almost instantly. He's caring, charismatic, if somewhat slightly silly at random times. His friendly tones are often seen when he's fighting, because he'd become a totally different person entirely. He loves to joke around and make someone laugh when he isn't fighting, or arguing with anyone nearby.

He fights like he's running out of time, as if he's trying to go the extra mile to save a friend, and if a friend is in trouble, he'd do it in a heartbeat. He loves to help people, and is willing to always. But this eagerness makes him jump into the fray without thinking. And put him near a woman and you'll get a very shy and crazy mess.

Likes: Blacksmithing- It's a useful skill, and it also helps him repair and maintain his weaponry.

Traveling- After eleven years of being a mercenary, Cain has grown to like traveling it requires.

Women- Put someone very pretty in the room and he melts almost immediately and is unable to focus for a little while.

Dislikes: Hypocrites- People who don't practice what they preach receives his left hook if he catches them.

Racists- Anyone mistreating the other for being different makes him bitter to his stomach.

Witches- Due to his past and how he feels about them, he immediately puts them under suspicion.

History: Cain Azura was born to a well known Village of craftsmen and forgers in a kingdom north of Korina, but despite this slight prestige, his origins are nevertheless humble. He was an only child, and the Village Elder, a grandfather to all the children, affectionately called him Na’ari, or "Blessed by a Dragon" in his old tongue which was custom when one was born with red hair and Amber eyes. It was a sign a great future awaited him.

As a youth he found it hard to make friends because he couldn't understand certain things and was distinctly quiet. That distanced him from other children, but he gained one friend which he regarded as his first, if not his only friend. She literally had the ears of a cat and was regarded as different too, and that brought the two together.

They would play all sorts of games. Especially when it was pretend that made him look dashing and heroic. Some of the village believed the two would marry when they grew up, and would be very happy. Even the village elder believed in that good fortune. But fortune took a turn for the Worst as all of a sudden, The Witch Came. He forgot her name along with the village he dwelled that night, as she came to snatch whatever children she could for her own ends. The two friends were especially for that regard. Both friends ran, but in the end, Cain escaped not knowing his only friend tripped, separating from her.

By the time he realized it though, it was too late. Desperate to try and locate her, he ran wildly through the woods, tear stricken. That was when he found a Mercenary, who took him under his wing and became a teacher to him.

Five years roll by, and Cain and the Mercenary, along with his company, discovered and defeated several trolls, and found their treasure hoard. It was there Cain found a sword made by a powerful blacksmith. But it was also enchanted by the Witch he grew to hate. It bound to his soul and granted him abilities beyond his imagination.

Six years roll by and he was now well known by anyone. He was called “The Dragon Swordsman” for his Might and dedication to help those in need. But he kept the memory of his one failure close to his heart. Even when he now heads for Korina, to face again, fate and it’s rolling dice.

The Dragon Swordsman was imprisoned. He was in a cell in the dungeon of Korina castle. He was going to investigate the Dark Tyrant who rules here, but it seems bad luck has waylaid this plan, and resulted in his current predicament. His sword is possibly being researched by court magicians or witches.

Witches. That could possibly be his poor luck. A Witch took his best friend away from him. A Witch ruined his life. A Witch-

“Hello little boy. I thought I recognized you. It took me a minute or so to figure you out.” Came an old voice. He looked at the cell across from him and saw an old woman.

“I... don’t think we met.” He said in response to her.

“Why sweetie, how could you forget me? Is it because I lost my beauty and powers? I nearly had you dear boy, but I had to settle for your friend.” Now his eyes widened. He knew who she was, and it angered him. He roared out in anger, trying to reach her. She cackled a bit as guards suddenly appeared, opening his cell and hitting the bars to quiet the now powerless Witch.

“Good luck facing my apprentice. She’s more powerful then me!” She yelled as they escorted Cain Azura to the hall of the Monarch of Korina.

———

It felt like minutes when they finally arrived at the meeting place of the Tyrant. “Here is the Dragon Swordsman, my lady.” Said a Guard. “He struggled a bit because the hag distracted him.”

“So you’re the Dark Tyrant,” Cain muttered. “It’s bad enough I received a reminder of my Failure, but it’s another to face the apprentice of the woman who made me this way!” He glared towards the woman but his anger changed to shock as his eyes widened. He saw her white hair, her now grown body, and the most striking feature, the cat ears on top of her head.

His head began to spin, his mind hurt. “Ame....Amethyst?” He muttered before fainting.

Amethyst was in the castle’s library flipping through her spell book. It was a huge book as thick as a bull’s head. She was lounging on a red couch as she reread some spells and the like. At the sound of the knock on the door, she closed the book and stood up. She walked over to the doors and pulled them open. She looked at the guard blankly and only glanced at the sword in his hand. Her ears flatten against her head in annoyance and her tail moved side to side in agitation.

You better have a good reason for disturbing me…I haven’t done a sacrifice in a while,” she said, her lips twisting into a cruel smile. Her eyes wandered to the knight’s throat as he swallowed nervously.

Yes, I do have a good reason,” he said, fear in his voice. Amethyst hissed in annoyance.

Well, tell me why you have disturbed me,” she yelled, her eyes filling with anger. The knight nervously swallowed again.

We have caught The Dragon Swordsman, and here is his sword,” he said, quickly holding the sword out. A sigh escaped her lips as she took the sword.

Meet me with him in the throne room, but give me enough time to look at this sword. Go now,” she hissed and watched as the knight scurried off. She looked over the sword. Amethyst took the witch’s powers long ago so could send her magic.

The book has something about swords...let’s see what the hag did to this sword,” she murmured to herself as she walked over to the spell book again.

Amethyst heard the footsteps coming towards her, but she ignored them. She listened to the guard speak, but still didn’t acknowledge him. Her face was hidden as she had her face buried in the book. The sword was laid across her lap. She only looked up when The Dragon Swordsman began to speak. She sat up straight and laid the book open on her lap over the sword.

If looks could kill, the glare she gave would have killed Cain twice. Instinctively, her ears pressed back again her hair and her lips curled, but stopped as she saw his anger turn to shock. She had to keep her expression blank as the main muttered her name. Her ears perked up as he fainted. Amethyst closed the book and placed it on the arm of the throne. She tucked the sword under her left arm.

She walked over and looked at the man on the ground. The red hair nagged at her mind. Amethyst studied his features. They looked familiar, but were different. Her lips pressed together in annoyance. Why did this man look so familiar? Amethyst looked at the guards who were attentively looking at her.

Bring him to the library and just lay him on the large long table. I’ll get something to wake him up,” she said before walking off to her room. As she went to open her bedroom door, it hit her like a boulder. The man was Cain. Her blood boiled at the thought and she quickly entered her room. Amethyst slammed the door closed so the sound echoed through the halls. She pushed down the emotional pain she felt from remembering how Cain betrayed her.

Pull yourself together. I should kill him…or better yet…” she stopped speaking as she picked up the sentence in her mind. She scurried about in her room as she collected a few items. It only took her seconds and she rushed off to the library. Amethyst was glad Cain was laid out on the table. She just couldn’t look at his face as the memories threaten to rush back. Her heart felt as if it was breaking all over again. It was experiencing the pain of Cain’s abandonment all over again.

She placed the sword at his side before setting her other stuff up. She placed one bowl of burning sage at each table leg. After she simply placed a rune above Cain’s head on the table. She purred in delight. A minute later she began to chant. Amethyst ignored the black tendrils that crawled towards her. Her eyes watched with anticipation as the sword began to glow. She opened her left hand and didn’t even flinch when a tendril cut her hand. It fed off the blood.

Simply put, she was binding the part of Cain’s soul in the sword to her. She had a trip to take and needed someone to go with her. None of her current guards were good enough to go with her. Though, she heard of The Dragon Swordsman, and he would do. She doubted he’d want to run away if he knew his soul was now bond to her soul. His sword would still work and he’d still have his abilities.

The spell didn’t take long. She picked the sword off the table and sat on the couch. Amethyst fingers traced the blade of the sword. She couldn’t wait for Cain to wake up, so she could tell him the wonderful news. She grew impatient quickly, but Amethyst wanted him to wake up naturally. She looked at her left hand and was glad to see the cut had healed. Her eyes wandered down to the floor in front of the couch. The black tendrils move around the floor, plump and happy they were fed.

Thank you, my darlings, for helping me with this spell,” she purred. Her eyes went to the window as she took in her kingdom. It was a beautiful place even though it seemed like the joy was sucked out of it.

All the while she was binding his soul, he was remembering the past. Of how he ran with her. He assumed Amethyst was right behind him, but it wasn’t until he ended up in an empty Vale did he realize his mistake.

“I’m sorry Ame.... I should have grabbed your hand...” He muttered as he began stirring. “It’s all my fault. No, no, Amethyst!” He opened his eyes and clutched his head, several tears threatening to spill. “It’s all my fault. All my fault.” He looked at her and saw that she had Draconil on her lap. Once more he eyed her features as he heaved a sigh.

“This is either an incredibly good dream, a nightmare I can’t wake up from, or you really are Amethyst. If it’s the last choice, I know you probably can’t forgive me. I was young, stupid, and assumed you were still with me when you weren’t. Punish me as you see fit.” He moved to get off the table and realized what he was on and checked his body for any odd changes.

“You didn’t prank me by making me taller or anything have you? Also nice bow, it makes your ears stand out more.” He said. Even though he knew he was going to possibly die, at least he’d talk to Amethyst like an old friend. “Picked that sword up in a troll cave. Did a funny thing with my soul that was really odd, but it gave me cool armor and such!”

Her gaze went to Cain when he spoke. She was confused. The confusion left when she realized he was sleep talking. She felt sadness dig into her heart at the words, but her mind brushed it off. Amethyst cleared all emotion from her features when his eyes opened. She didn’t meet his gaze when he looked at her. Amethyst couldn’t bring herself to look in his eyes yet. Her gaze returned to the window. She watched as her people roamed the streets. Amethyst may have as well been deaf when he said it was his fault. Her ears did perk up to listen better as he continued to speak.

He’s lying. He didn’t think I was still with him. I fell, and he just kept running. He only wanted to save his own skin. He was only my friend because no one else wanted to be his friend. She pushed her thoughts away. The thoughts were pretty much ingrained in her mind thanks to the witch. The witch had tainted her mind to think Cain was bad and abandoned her. Amethyst was too stubborn to think otherwise after all these year. Finally, Amethyst looked at him. She glared at him with hate. Amethyst wanted to kill him. Though, deep down, she wanted to hug him as well. Deep down she had missed her one and only friend.

Amethyst stood up. She placed the sword on the couch. “The sword will work as it has before. I bond your soul to mine as I have a trip I need to take. You are coming with me. If you don’t come and something tragic happens to me…well, let’s say your soul will suffer,” she added. She walked passed him to grab a leather-bound book off a chair. It was like her journal. It had her goals and the like in it.

We can leave tomorrow morning. There is going to be a festival in a few hours to celebrate my coming to power. You may go if you wish,” she said before sitting in the chair. Amethyst opened her journal with a short chant and flipped through the pages. I can’t believe I am finally taking this trip, will finally get the army I need to rule the world.

He heard her explanation about his sword and halfway remembered what the Witch said. However, it seems even if he wanted to harm her (which he didn’t) he’d risk his own soul. She changed the conditions of Draconil’s magic it seemed. He picked up his sword and slung it over his back. “Least the sheathe was still on me.” He said to himself. “I’ll be at an inn in the city then.”

——

Whilst the festival was festive and celebrated Amethyst’s rise of power, it made Cain wonder exactly how she accomplished it. Even a witch’s apprentice shouldn’t be able to claim a throne. She had to have some legitimate claim.

He brushed it aside as he waited at the castle gates for her. Morning had come and he was obediently waiting for her arrival. He brushed his long hair with his fingers, yawning as he did so. “Yesterday didn’t go as planned, let’s see what new adventures I’ve gotten myself dragged into this time.” He thought. ”She’s really sore at me. I have a feeling if looks could kill that glance she gave me yesterday would drill holes in my head.”

He hummed as the waiting continued. “What’s taking her?” He mumbled.

Amethyst was glad when he left and just took note he was at the inn. She didn’t go to the festival that night. Amethyst didn’t want to see Cain. Also, her people wouldn’t have as much fun if she was there. She decided it wouldn’t hurt to give them a night of fun and relaxation. If anyone asked why she didn’t attend, she’d just mention she was packing for her trip. It was the truth for the most part. When she finished packing, keeping it luckily to one large knapsack, she went to bed.

As sunlight shone into Amethyst’s room, she turned her back to it. The warmth from the sunlight was nice. It slowly woke her up, but she wanted to sleep. She wasn’t really a morning person and preferred the nightlife. She rested as her mind wandered. As her mind wandered, her thoughts went to Cain and their trip. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she got out of bed. Her eyes took in her surroundings before she got ready.

It didn’t take her long to get ready. She always hated baths and made them quick. Her maid, Ivy, brushed her hair out. It was wet and needed to dry. Amethyst nibbled on a piece of cheese as she waited for the woman to finished. Once she finished, she slid her black cloak and bag on. Amethyst had decided to not wear the bow anymore thanks to Cain’s comment yesterday. When she looked out the window, she saw Cain waiting. She decided to make him wait a bit for her amusement. A while later, Amethyst walked outside and towards Cain. She didn't even look at the man. Amethyst just walked passed him and into the woods.

Hurry, we have to get to the docks before Deadly Hollows leave. They likely haven’t left yet as it is a ship full of pirates, and they get drunk every night,” she said as she walked right by him. The docks were close by, but they had to walk quickly to catch their ship. Amethyst pulled her hood on as she looked around the woods. She hadn’t really gone into them often unless traveling or looking for some herbs or animal. She hummed softly to herself as she listened to the birds sing.

"The pirates don't exactly know who I am. They just come here to restock their ship throughout the year. I've paid them to take us with them though. They think we want to make a new life elsewhere. We may have to help out on the ship," she said, a few minutes into the walk.

He followed her, but didn’t like the silent treatment, or the avoidance of eye contact. But he pulled that aside for the moment when she mentioned Pirates. “Uhh, Pirates?” He asked “Not that I think it’s a bad idea or anything, but I may have a reputation as the Dragon Swordsman.”

They continued walking. “Not only that but my appearance could give me away very easily. I mean, you remember what the Elder said. ‘One Blessed by Dragons is hard to miss’. Those pirates might try to make me pay extra!”

Nothing more was said as the pair walked to the docks and onto the Deadly Hollows. As she predicted, the sailors all had pretty bad hangovers. Those up were getting things ready to sail, yet the captain still had yet to wake and give the order to set sail, so the pair had plenty of time to settle in.

Well, Cain had plenty of time to let everything that happened to him sink in. His best friend was now Evil, probably. He was now her servant, with a piece of his soul at her disposal. Now he was going on a journey with her. Would other would be heroes have to be fought off by him? What an irony that would be!

Amethyst just listened as Cain spoke. His reputation may cause a few issues along the way, but she’d deal with it. She took a slow deep breath at the mention of the Elder. It hurt to think of the old man. She missed him. He did take her in and took care of her. Amethyst knew he must have been devastated when she disappeared. She rolled her shoulders back as he continued to speak. Amethyst would just pay extra if needed. Money wouldn’t be an issue and if needed, she would use force.

Goosebumps formed on her skin as she stepped onto the ship. She really hated ships and only been on one before. It was the ship that took her to this land. The thought of falling into the water is what freaked her out. She slowly looked around for the captain, but he was nowhere in sight. Her ears perked up from under the hood and her tail swayed side to side. Amethyst turned and looked at Cain, well, she just looked at his chin.

Your reputation shouldn’t cause an issue on the ship. I do believe the captain is playing dumb when it comes to knowing who I am. If he doesn’t know you personally, we should be fine. Unless you betrayed him or left him abandoned somewhere,” she paused as she turned around, “Also, I can use my magic to take care of anyone who is an issue.

When she finished speaking, the ship began to move. Her eyes quickly scanned her surroundings. She saw the captain at the wheel. He simply nodded to her. Amethyst walked to the side of the ship, so she could grab it. Her claws extended as they dug into the wood. A strong wind filled the sails, and she tensed as she kept her balance. She took a deep breath of the salty sea air.

Just need to be on the ship until we encounter some sirens,” she murmured to herself. Amethyst needed a voice of a siren, but she knew it'd be a while before they passed any. She knew the captain had a few stops to make along the way for his main destination. Amethyst still had to speak to him to find out what the stops were.

The ship eventually went underway, as Cain sighed and went to claim a spot to sleep below deck then came back up to check on Amethyst, watching her tense as she kept balance on the boat.

“Still don’t like water eh?” He asked with a grin. “You always hated swimming. Remember the time it rained? Like years ago, when there was all those puddles?”

He remembered some of it, if not barely. He recalled he wanted to splash in every puddle he could set his eyes on. He probably accidentally splashed Amethyst once or twice and she didn’t forgive him for that.

“You made me climb up a tree to get a very nice looking flower for an apology. I nearly broke my arm.” He chuckled as a crewman asked for help with scrubbing the deck.

“Hold On I got it!” He shouted as he hurried to help however he can. “We’ll talk later.” He said, hoping to at least peak her interest and try to find some of his old friend in the Now semi-soul bound employer.

The Captain was keeping a course, trying to avoid Siren infested waters as best he could. He didn’t want to go into them for fear of wrecking the ship.

Amethyst jut glanced at Cain when he spoke. Why was he speaking to her? A soft laugh did escape her lips when he mentioned the flower she made him get. He should have broken his arm. He wasn’t a true friend, he just abandoned me. She watched him run off to help someone. Amethyst rolled her eyes when he mentioned talking later. This trip is worth it. You can deal with him. You can deal with him. He betrayed you, but I got a part of my revenge.

She stretched out slowly and walked over to the captain. Amethyst quickly chatted with him. It took everything in her to not argue about the stops he wanted to make. The first stop was some pirate island. Captain mentioned something about how he liked to relax his men before a long journey. Amethyst knew the relaxing for the men meant brothels. The only reasons she picked this ship was because it was the first one leaving. Also, pirates usually ended up coming across sirens. If anything, she could attract some.

She didn’t stay above deck for long. Amethyst was starting to feel seasick. Amethyst sat down and leaned against the wall. When it was suppertime, she headed to the small dining area below deck. She wasn’t happy with the slop put in the bowl, but she just took a seat. She slowly ate the soup and decided it was okay. It just was salty. Her eyes wandered around as she watched the men talk. Amethyst wondered where Cain went off to. She quickly brushed the thought off though. Though, she couldn’t help the curiosity she had about his adventures.

“Did you get a good look at the man we picked up?” Asked a crewman. “He looked like the Dragon Swordsman.”

“You mean that Mercenary warrior that defeated the Dark Wizard Xavier?” Said another crewman.

“Aye, that’s him. It was a hell of a fight according to the stories.” The crewman said. “They said he went after the dark wizard because he enslaved people of all manner.”

“I heard his sword has a dragon living inside it.” Said a third.

“That’s hogwash, magic swords ain’t that good.” The crewman continued their conversation, swapping stories and rumors.

They stopped talking when Cain walked into the dining area and took a bowl of the food provided. He took a taste of the slop and coughed a bit at the salty flavor. It was as if one of the ingredients was salt. He ate in silence but looked at Amethyst now and again. It bothered him a bit that throughout the day, they never once looked at each other in the face. Was it fear of memories being brought up? Or that they’ve changed so far and one believed one thing over the other?

He didn’t know. But what he did know was that eventually, if they were going to work together and go through this, and possibly other adventures, the elephant in the room needed to be addressed.

  1. Dragon in the sword?

Amethyst listened to the conversations going on. She rolled her shoulders back to relax. I swear, if his reputation messes up this plan, I’ll turn him into a fly. I will need to check if the sword has a dragon…I don’t think it does. I hope not. When the talking stopped, she glanced up from her food. Cain had walked in. After she finished her food, she walked over to Cain. Amethyst sat next to him and pulled out a small bottle. It was filled with a light blue glowing liquid. She held it out to Cain under the table.

Drink this,” she paused as one of the pirates stumbled into the table.

A-Are you that Dragon Swordsman?” he stuttered. Amethyst hissed at the man and ignored his startled gaze.

No, he got cursed by a witch as a joke, so leave,” she added.

Bitch,” the pirate murmured before walking away. She glanced at Cain.

Drink, it will stop you from hearing sirens whenever we run into them,” she said. She placed the bottle on his lap.

He saw her sit next to him and give him something to drink. He looked at it before looking at a Sailor who asked him a question he gets often. Cain smirked and was about to answer when Amethyst answered for him.

“Now that’s rude Ame. No witch with a sense of humor can replicate me.” He whispered as he took the bottle and drank it. “Sirens, haven’t run into those. Fought several monsters just as deadly, but this’ll be a first.”

He then glanced at the sailor who cursed in her face, he had a right mind to punch his head in but he had to calm down, lest his own hubris gets the better of him and he brags in the middle of a fight. Like he did when he got captured in Korina. That wasn't fun.

“You’re still as bossy as you were long ago. Kinda nostalgic actually.” He said, just filling the empty air between them, knowing she might not even talk to him. He could feel from the way she avoided eye contact and any other communication other then order or instruction, she was still debating on if she should just kill him and be done with it or no.

He hoped there was a chance there was still the same Amethyst buried deep within the Queen of Korina. ”Don’t push your luck.” said a voice in his head. Cain sighed and looked down at the sword and patted it. It was going to be a long boat trip.

Amethyst ears perked up when Cain spoke. She watched him drink it and curiosity filled her eyes when he mentioned fighting monsters. She opened her mouth to ask what monsters he fought, but then he glanced at the sailor. It was the sailor who cursed at her none the less. Amethyst normally would have killed him or turn him into a slug. She didn’t do any of that as she had to save her magic. Having the dark tendrils drink from her wasn’t ideal. It made her feel tired and weak. Those were the last things she wanted to feel on the ship. She already felt seasick. She was pulled out of her thoughts when he spoke again.

I could likely duplicate your hair and eyes for someone. Though, I don’t normally perform cosmetic magic,” she said. She turned slightly towards him, but only looked at his forehead. Ame softly cleared her throat.

I am not bossy. I just know what I want people to do,” she said. She felt offended he called her rude and bossy. The young woman was rude and bossy, but she didn’t want Cain saying it. A smirk graced her lips. “I hear you still like to brag. One of my guards told me, thanks to your bragging, they caught you,” she whispered.

Now, try not to brag when we run into a hero or something of that nature during our trip,” she added. Amethyst stood and stretched as she watched the pirates leave the dining room. When they left, she pulled out a small wooden dragon from her dress pocket. She placed it in front of Cain. On the bottom of the little wooden figure was his name.

Elder made us little wooden figures, but I am giving you the one meant for me. I am only keeping yours as it has my name on it. The last thing I want is something with your name on it. I’ve only kept this figure for so long because the Elder asked me to give it to you,” she said. Out of boredom she began to pile up the bowls. The Elder had given her the figures the day she was caught. Ame was going to give Cain the cat with her name on the bottom, but then the witch appeared. She softly hummed as she sorted the dirty dishes out.

Cain choked on his drink a bit as she mentioned his bragging, giving a small sheepish grin. “Yeah well, old habits incredibly die hard.” He said rubbing the back of his neck. “I’ll try not to let it take hold too much.”

Dinner was coming to an end and the Pirates left. Cain started to prepare to get up as well when Amethyst placed the wooden figurine down. Gone was the sheepish grin, gone was his embarrassed look from before as he took the figurine in hand and listened to her talk. What she said made his heart sink even further.

He recalled the adolescent children of the village getting such figurines at their age. They then exchanged them to either a best friend, or more often then not, someone they loved as something to carry with them when they were apart on either long trips away from the village, and so on. That way they would always be reminded of who they were coming home to.

Seeing his in front of him though, confirmed his worst fear that wormed in his heart. Amethyst probably would never forgive him. “Thank you for honoring his wishes like a good daughter, Amethyst. I don’t know if I should be relieved or hurt.” His voice was calm, but his eyes started to form small tears. “I’ll say it’s probably both, because of obvious reasons. Least you can say I know what you think about me now.”

He got up slowly, taking the figurine and putting it in his pocket. But as he walked towards the stairs leading up to the deck, he stopped as he heard the sound of music. “Oh crap, me drinking that stuff jinxed us.”

It seemed that during dinner, the helmsman had accidentally sailed right smack into a Siren’s territory. Time for Cain to prepare for a little fight it seemed.

Amethyst heard the music before Cain. Though, she didn’t rush above deck because of his words. Why would he feel hurt? He probably doesn’t really care that I gave him the figure. I should have just kept it…but I promised. He doesn’t even know what I think of him, hell, do I even know? She followed behind him when he spoke again.

Ame didn’t think the sirens were related to him drinking the potion. It could be, but she wouldn’t think too much into it. She stayed close behind Cain as she watched the Captain sail right to the siren’s rocky shores. Some of the men were diving into the water to go to the sirens. A few of the sirens rose themselves with the water to pull some of the men in.

One of the sirens seemed ready to grab Cain to pull him in. Something in Amethyst woke up thinking Cain may be killed. It may have been the old bond she had formed to him as a child. The gods only knew. Amethyst threw herself at the siren and immediately knew it was a bad idea. The siren was happy with her catch and pulled her into the water.

Now, Amethyst didn’t think about needing to do the spell under the water. The spell would have been easier to do if she was above water. Speaking a spell was always easier than thinking one. Though, she had no time to think about anything besides coming up for air. She fought the siren and scratched at her as the creature seemed ready to drown her.

She finally gave the siren a fatal cut on her neck. Amethyst quickly swam to the surface. She gasped for air and gripped onto a jagged rock nearby. Amethyst just stayed holding onto the rock. She was out of breath. Her eyes wondered as she spoke the spell. Amethyst was happy when her claws glowed blue. “Time to get a siren now,” she said.

Amethyst didn’t need to get a siren though. Her attack on the siren she just killed put a target on her back. She hissed in annoyance. “Well, one way to stop sirens from sinking a ship,” she murmured. She held her breath and just waited for the attack. Amethyst would grab the voice for the siren that came for her first.

He saw the siren about to grab him, easy enough for him as he slowly reached for his sword but then he saw Amethyst jump in the way and get pulled in instead. “Ame!” He shouted as he hurried forward, looking down in the water as he noticed she suddenly popping out of the water. He noticed several sirens clambering up to the rocks a good distance away, looking at Amethyst with scorn and anger.

“You have killed one of our own. Your life is forfeit to the sea, and it’s dangers.” One of them said in anger as Cain noticed a fin sticking out of the water swimming to Amethyst. Mere moments later a large sea serpent threw its head out of the water. Cain pulled out Draconil as its runes began to glow.

“Come on, let’s make sashimi out of this thing!” He told the sword as he jumped towards the creature. The serpent roared in anger as Cain flew towards it and delivered a kick to its nose, causing him to rear back a bit.

“Ha!” He shouted. “All roar and no bite!” The sea serpent glared at Cain as the latter realized he pulled a goof. He taunted a Sea Serpent. “Oh Crap!” He jumped for another rock as the serpent bit at his last position only getting air. It turned to glare at its attacker again.

“This is a predicament.” Cain muttered. He needed to charge up his runes to summon his Armor, with it, he could easily defeat this threat and move to the Sirens next.

Amethyst rolled her eyes when one of the siren’s spoke. Forfeit my life to the sea…ha. Her eyes did widen when a sea serpent’s head came out of the water. She didn’t think much of it since a siren dragged her under the water again. Amethyst was ready this time. Her hand shot out and her nails sunk into the siren’s throat. Though, no damage was done to the siren. Amethyst pulled her hand away and looked at the glowing red ball in her hand. It was the siren’s magical voice. The siren looked at her in shock, her hands going to her throat. She tried to sing, but nothing came out.

Before the siren came out of shock, Amethyst came back to the surface. She ignored the pain she felt in her lungs. She came to the surface just in time to see Cain. Amethyst rolled her eyes and climbed onto a rock. She couldn’t believe he just taunted the creature. How the hell did he get his reputation? His mouth is going to get him in trouble one day. Guess I am going to need to ask the darkness to help. I can’t exactly have Cain died with his soul bond to mine. This is going to be a long day.

Darkness, come to me,” she stopped and watched as the black tendrils appeared out of thin air. She stopped to wonder if Cain really needed help. Ame didn’t want to get fed off, but she needed Cain alive. “Blind the serpent, don’t let the redhead die,” she commanded. She watched as the tendrils shot out towards the serpent. Though, the serpent was quick and dove under the water.

Great. She didn’t get to curse the darkness as a siren grabbed her cloak. The dark tendrils dove into the water to try again. Ame took her cloak off and jumped rock to rock. It was a bit difficult as being soaked affected her balance. She was quick enough to avoid the sirens coming after her. She was heading back to the ship. Ame had what she wanted, and it was time to get to safety. The captain looked like he was ready to sail off to safety.

The Sea Serpent dove back in the water from Amethyst’s magic, Cain had to concentrate on the sword’s magic. He noticed her getting back on the boat and noticed that the sirens were angrier then before, some comforting one who held her throat and giving out silent sobs. The serpent came out of the water and glared towards the boat.

”Okay, playtime is over, no more taunting.” he thought as he raised his sword.

“Spirit Of Draconil! Grant me your power!” as he shouted this, the runes shot out a teal lightning that enveloped the sword’s Wielder, Before Cain’s clothing changed. He now wore armor, looking at Amethyst briefly before he surged forward at the serpent and struck it several times in its face, giving it several skilled cuts. It reared back in pain from the blows but now simply circled around the Sirens in protection, glaring at Amethyst and the Dragon Swordsman back and forth as the latter flew onto the boat.

“Get this thing moving! The contest is won. He won’t bother us.” He explained as he looked at Amethyst. “Thanks for the save, but I had it under control. Next time, just warn me when something is behind me. I lost you once, or at least, I lost the old you. It’d do me harm if the ‘new you’ got herself killed.”

With that said he sheathed his sword and went back to the dining area to find a spot to get a nice cold drink, and some shuteye, his armor vanishing back to his normal clothing as he walked.

Amethyst was happy when she was back on the ship. She turned around to watch Cain. Her ears perked up with curiosity as she watched him gain armor. She didn’t pay mind to the glare she felt. It was either from the serpent or a siren. Amethyst was too busy watching Cain to make sure he got back on the boat. She was ready to go back to change her clothing, but then Cain spoke. Her ears pressed against her head in annoyance. Her tail twitched side to side in agitation.

The only reason she didn’t follow him was because the captain pulled her to the side. She pressed her lips together to stop herself from hissing. “If we run into another unpleasant event, you and the redhead are off the ship,” he said, his voice laced with anger.

It won’t,” she snapped before heading in the direction Cain went. Amethyst beelined for Cain once she saw him. When he saw close enough, Amethyst went on her tippy toes, so she could whisper in his ear.

Warn you? I decided to help because you may have wasted time taunting the beast. I am not trying to deal with unlinking our souls with you dead. Also, you didn’t lose me, you abandoned me. You left me behind so the witch could do as she wished with me. I yelled for you until I lost my voice. If I died, you’d only regret it because your soul is linked to mine,” she whispered, hissing in his ear.

After she spoke, she stormed off to where she planned on sleeping. She climbed up to the lookout tower. Amethyst grabbed her bag and pulled out black clothing. Amethyst pulled out a tunic, tights, and knee-high leather boots. Quickly, and hoping no one was watching, she changed into the outfit. Amethyst hung the wet clothing over the rail. After, she put the siren's voice away in a bottle and tucked it away in her bag.

Next, she pulled out a brush. Her tail and hair were soaking wet. She would need to brush them dry. As she brushed, she kept her eyes on the sea. Amethyst noticed the pirates heading below deck to rest. The sea was calm for now. Hopefully it is a peaceful night. In between brushing, she ran her fingers throughout her hair.
