Introduction
"It was our own foolish stubbornness that got our city in the air."
A steampunk setting & RP by Moonscar, Gasmask and The Keywork
New London's world differs from ours in many ways. Where our world is complete and only separated by the seven seas. Shatter is punctuated by the seven skies instead where the world was torn asunder from the inside, where chunks of their Earth float in defiance of sense and gravity.
When the Earth imploded most people fled to the skies, naturally, seeking a safe haven from the crumbling ground beneath them. But others chose to flee downwards instead, casting themselves deeper into the world's crust and embedding themselves there for years to come.
These inhabitants would, much later on, mind you, come to be called Lynchers by the denizens of New London. Earning the name because of their habit to suspend themselves via rope from several rock formations and cliffaces. Which, to the kind denizens of New London, was pretty much a plead for death.
What is New London you ask? When the world fell into calamity, only one city was left standing amongst the ruins of the world. The city of London was hanging by the edge, threatening to fall into the endless abyss.
It eventually did, but not without the inhabitants taking a large chunk of the city with them into the sky. The last chunk of London was christened New London by the survivors and ushered in the first but not last hope of humanity reclaiming a spot for themselves. The irony was... This was as close as humanities dream of the sky ever was.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 3 authors
Currently, the band of ruffians found themselves at the so-called docks, an area where air-ships would settle themselves to refuel and then be off on their way once more. The city itself was suspended several miles in the air, and the 'shore' of the docks, as it were, was a sheer drop off into a sea of clouds and blue. The mechanisms which kept the city afloat could be seen under them, if one were to lean over the edge, and they would appear to be ran by a mysterious force of magic and the whirling gears of what was dubbed the 'Sky Engine'.
At these docks, there lay stationed several cranes, used for transferring cargo from ships to the land and vice versa. Among these cranes stood a particular one, one that towered over the rest. It was at the base of this towering crane that the ruffians spent their time, hidden from the workers and guards alike. There lay a small boxed mechanism at the feet of two particular members of this group, a mechanism of one of the two's own design.
He called it a 'clay pigeon' shooter, when in reality it didn't shoot clay pigeons at all, but clay disc like objects that soared through the air in a mix of horizontal and vertical arcs. In the hands of the one who had invented it also lay a rifle, which was used to shoot the 'clay pigeons' out of the air. The boy, named Leo and henceforth will be referenced as such, quickly climbed the tower and leaned to the side of it to check for any guards on the other side of the giant fence that separated them from the rest of the town. He gave a signal to the one who had originally been standing with him, Christian, a life-long friend, and then began his descent back down.
Christian, at this point, gave an affirmative nod and waited for his friend Leo to be grounded again before turning his attention to the mechanism at their feet and giving it a solid kick. The machine placated to its received abuse and made a whirring noise before shooting out one of the clay pigeons, which Leo promptly took aim at and shot out of the sky. The smug smile on his face only humored Christian, who returned the enthusiasm with a grin of his own.
Leo always had been the one for theatrics, seemingly to do everything he did with flourish. Not that it didn't impress Christian, but it had deterred to the point where he was used to it by now. After his grin faded, he shook his head slightly before reaching out for the rifle. "You always were quite the show off. Mind if I try before we get ourselves caught?"
A distinctive clack of a thick heel followed the voice. Walking up behind the boys was a broad-shouldered woman with threatening eyes that were grey as smoke from a raging fire. She was clad in a dull frock coat that was more popular among New London's men than it was among ladies, and beneath it she even dared trousers and a plain white shirt. Atop her tightly pulled back, mousy head of hair was a bowl hat, and in one of her hands, a black cane with a silver eagle topping it off.
She looked the part. And the white and blue badge on the left of her coat? It only solidified any suspicions the boys might have had before resting their eyes on it.
"Shooting is prohibited in the city. Now, if you'd surrender your guns and make this easy on us both, I'd be incredibly appreciative." Her voice was as authoritative as the badge. She was not playing around with the boys. "Come on. Now."
"Yeah su- Aw. London Authority? Come on lady!" Leo thumbed out towards the docks and into the shattered areas of the outskirts. With that gesture in mind, Leo would oh-so-subtly incline his head to the west docks, inquiring if they were going to make a run for it.
His foster father woudn't take too dearly to the fact that Leo had been dragged in to the London Authority offices once again. Dear old daddy would give him a spankin' for that, but he had to admit, it kept him out of trouble till now.
Leo held out the gun towards the woman.
It was only after deciding not to run that Christian realized he had his hands up in the air, as if she had asked them to surrender. He dropped the left one, clearing his throat nervously as he used his right hand to rub at his face. "Uh, listen, lady. We didn't mean to cause any trouble. We're essentially on the outskirts of the city and it's not like we're making any messes. All of the debris plummets to the ruin below. And it's not like it was that pretty to begin with." The other hand dropped to his side as well now.
"Dunno where you're getting the concept of 'guns', though. We only have the one, which as you can see, is being handed over to you now." He nodded towards the rifle Leo was now holding out to her. He took this time to drink her in with his eyes, her hat, the cane, the tone of her voice seeming to personify what the badge pinned to her bosom stood for. It was a bit unnerving, and Christian had a feeling that she was higher on the authoritative chain than Leo and himself had at first believe.
"Now, we're willing to come along peacefully. On one condition, though. Let the rest of these guys go, they didn't do anything but cheer us on. Leo and I were the only two that fire. Well, Leo was the only one technically, but I was going to fire next. I think booking just the two of us, if it's to come to that, would be simpler anyway." He held out his hand to shake her own, that is, if she took it. His eyes looked into her own full of earnest, with a subtle touch of pleading.
"Deal?"
