Introduction

In the beginning, there was fire and ice. A great void Ginnungagap was between the frosty Niflheim and the firey Muspell, and as the flames melted the ice, soon the frost giant Ymir emerged. As he slept, sweat dripped from his forehead, and from the cold sweat drops, a whole race of frost giants emerged. As more ice thawed, it formed a great cow called Audhumla, with four rivers of milk which flowed from her teats to feed Ymir and the frost giants. The cow licked salty ice blocks. After one day of licking, she freed a man's hair from the ice. After two days, his head appeared. On the third day the whole man was there. His name was Buri, and he was tall, strong, and handsome. Buri begot a son named Bor, and Bor married Bestla, the daughter of a giant. Bor and Bestla had three sons: Odin was the first, Vili the second, and Vé the third. Together, they became the first gods and rulers of heaven and earth. Soon, a fire giant named Surt appeared in Muspelheim, from whom the fire giants were forged. Then a war broke out between the gods and the frost giants. Odin killed Ymir during the battle and emerged as king of the gods. The sons of Bor then carried Ymir to the middle of Ginnungagap and made the world from him. From his blood they made the sea and the lakes; from his flesh the earth; from his hair the trees; and from his bones the mountains.

Ymir bled so much that his blood flooded the world, and drowned most of the frost giants. They made rocks and pebbles from his teeth and jaws and those bones that were broken. Maggots appeared in Ymir's flesh, and by decree of the gods, they took a human appearance but remained small. From these small beings, the dwarves emerged, living in rocks and caves deep underground. Bor's three sons formed a bowl from Ymir's skull and used it to make the sky. They flung Ymir's brains into the sky which formed the clouds. Then they took the sparks and burning embers that were flying about after they had been blown out of Muspell, and placed them in the midst of Ginnungagap to give light to heaven above and earth beneath. To the stars they gave appointed places and paths. The earth was surrounded by a deep sea. The sons of Bor gave the mountains near the sea to the newly created rock giants for their settlements. The gods then formed Midgard from Ymir's eyebrows. Two trees grew out of Midgard, an ash tree and an elm tree. From these trees, the gods carved a man and a woman, Ask and Embla, the father and mother of all human beings. The gods then set the heavens, the sky and earth with the sun and all the stars, and placed them in a giant ash tree to decorate it. The tree grew so tall that it took up the whole cosmos, so the gods created a rainbow bridge to get from earth to heaven. They then created Vanaheim, the home of the nature gods who tended to the forest and protected the trees. The nature gods used leaves to create faeries, and from some of the faeries, a magical race of light elves emerged. The light elves went to war with the dwarves. After the war, some of the elves stayed in Svartalfheim while some of the dwarves stayed in Alfheim, and this exchange saw the evolution of hobbits, gnomes, wood elves and dark elves. Then a war broke out between the Aesir gods and Vanir gods. After the war, Njord, Freyr and Freyja went to stay in Asgard while Hoenir and Mimir stayed in Vanaheim, in order to ensure peace among the gods. But the god Loki was a trickster and malicious god who prefered the company of giants. Loki married the giantess Angrboda, and together they parented a race of demons and had three children: the first was Hel, the mother of dragons and goddess of the underworld. The second was Jormungand, a giant sea serpent which encircled the entire world. The third was Fenrir, a ravenous wolf. Loki also became the father of many other malicious creatures that would become the sworn enemy of gods and men. Thus the realms were formed and all the races borne. Be weary when travelling the Nine Worlds, for whispers of war and danger exists everywhere in these lands. Some places are unsuitable and uninhabitable by your race, even if you are a lesser deity. If only you were King Odin himself, but perhaps he favors you. We'll see what the gods have planned and if they have given you their blessings. Until then, farewell and safe journeys, traveller. May you ride in good haste with your back to the wind. Just be sure to watch behind you when you ride.

Niu Heimar: The Viking Saga is a turn-based novella type of RPG which involves a multiplayer story that constantly unfolds with collaboration. There is no end to this story, as the pages are constantly being written by the players involved. Niu Heimar: The Viking Saga is unrated and may contain some graphic scenes or explicit content that is unsuitable for some audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.

NH:TVS aims for medieval realism with a hint of surrealism and is designed to be semi-historically accurate. NH:TVS uses its own combat system which restricts the use of magic in favor of TB melee. Some restricted forms of magic are allowed, as are ranged weapons such as arrows or catapults, but TB melee is strongly encouraged. No modern or futuristic sci-fi weapons or characters are allowed. Early medieval fantasy characters only. The idea for this RPG is to be semi-legendary, mythological and semi-historical in regards to the Viking Age, so magic does exist but is limited in power. There are no playable deities, divine beings or over-powerful characters allowed in this universe. Mortal human characters only. Violators could be banned without warning.

Editing in progress. Submit a character at your own risk. Players may submit multiple characters, or play an entire clan if they so choose. More information will be added soon. So check back frequently. In the meantime, feel free to look around. PM the GM for further details. Thank you for your patience. I hope you enjoy your visit to my realms. :-)
