◙◙◙◙ The existence of vampires seems like a romantic idea—that is until one truly understands what it means to be one. No one knows what causes vampirism, though, or what changes the DNA structure to something more. All that is known is that vampirism is a disease—and like any disease, it can spread. The Change is different than what has been romanticized, though. It is likely to kill a person rather than to turn them, however; those that survive the change, are not always well.

Ghouls are vampires who failed to turn completely. The Change causes physical alterations, causing them to no longer resemble the person they once were. These creatures prey on anything they can get—human and vampire alike, it does not matter to them. Vampires, however, created a system to keep them contained. It was imperative, after all, that the existence of vampires be kept a secret.

But there is something far more sinister happening within the vampiric community.

The infection has proven fatal to beings once thought to have the perfect immune system. With numbers already small to begin with, fear has gripped those who believe the disease will wipe them out.

And like any animal facing extinction, they are fighting to preserve their lives.

The best scientists in the world have been gathered by the vampire Council to manufacture a cure, however; they need a base to work with. They need the First. The only problem is, no one has seen the Ancestor in quite some time, and most believe him to be a myth.

There are whispers, though, that he has been spotted in a small town known as Sanctuary—a fitting name, perhaps, given the circumstances. The Council has sent a group of their best to investigate these whispers, but with the town's sheriff watching their every move, they'll have to be creative with their tactics. After all, it is only natural that the people of Sanctuary would be suspicious if murders started to happen with the appearance of these newcomers.

And what link does the local floral shop owner have to them?

Vicentius made his way to the clinic which will be both his front and a temporary site where he can dabble on the veracity of samples if he should acquire any. That is only possible if the lead in this area is true. It would certainly make this trip worthwhile until then, he would be checking if all the things he had ordered are present and functioning. That reminded him about the scent of blood he briefly picked up during his first day in this town. He had tried to find out the cause of it by walking around and doing the shopping which he reasoned out to be him just getting familiar with Sanctuary. There were some curious spots but it did not yield much. He could still be missing something but that is but a sidenote. His mission is to confirm the appearance of the Ancestor. That is his priority especially with the hounding of the Council. They require him to check-in every five days.

Ancestor... His eyes narrowed ever so slightly. The purest strain... That thought made him instinctively sneer. It is a concept that he had been hearing since he was born to this world. His clan the Caelum had prided themselves of being a lineage of nothing else but purebloods. He actually found it odd as well that throughout the generations they never been given a human descendant when that is more prevalent. That is why... He didn't continue that train of thought. It was not worth it at the moment. It would be interesting though to meet that Ancestor who everyone wants to be connected to. Ridiculous really... He released a sigh at that. He did not share the same admiration towards the guy though. He set such thoughts aside for now and continued checking the equipment. He eventually finished it up and then left the clinic after securing it.

Image The next destination would be the police station. He did say he would be checking up on Ezekiel and used that as an opportunity for him to widen his net. There was also something he wanted to make sure of. This time he was well-acquainted with the town's layout. There was no need for him to ask anyone for directions this time around where the police station is. He is a bit concerned about Selene being out. She has been extremely bored and she was not hiding that in the past days. He was certain that she would do her best to entertain herself especially when she is up and about without him being there. He trusts though that Athanasios should be able to handle her.

The Council won't put him as a guard if he can't handle it. That reminds him of the day that he was told about having the watchdog under his guidance. He was also soon assigned to supervise over the known traitor, Endless Witch. It was then his Coven was established. There was really no reason for him to refuse the orders of the Council. It has been a whirlwind since then... He soon arrived at the police station. It was time for him to put his act together once more. "Good day, I am Vincent Calloway. I would like to see Sheriff Jones if possible." He greeted the person at the reception.

ImageAthanasios looked at Adrien. He wasn't bothered by how the man speaks. It was rather something he was familiar with. That's why there was no need for Amaryllis' explanation but he didn't say anything about it in the end. After all, it is not a concern even the fact that he knows Adrien from a past that he has decided not to inform Vicentius about unless it interferes with their mission. "All right." He answered in his usual and lazy demeanor. It has become evident that he is not someone who expresses himself readily. "Lead the way."

There is a concern about Selene behaving badly but Athanasios decided not to worry about that. It is already a given when it comes to her. He assumed the reason why the Council placed him as her guard was due to the fact he does not show many reactions about anything. He was always apathetic or more specifically too lazy to care. She was the type that tends to enjoy herself the more she disturbs other people so he was the perfect shield in a sense. He would not be distracted from his work.

That is why it should not be a problem if Athanasios let Selene wander around town with him. Vicentius had already left it to him to take point on this matter.

ImageSelene watched the interaction between Athanasios and Adrien. There was nothing odd at first sight but she feels there is more. It seems that the boys of the coven are rather influenced by this town in one form or another. It was interesting but it was too slow-paced for her. Anyway, it seemed that they would be accompanied by Adrien and that Amaryllis would be leaving for work now. It was at that point that Aila asked when dinner would be.

"7:00 PM." Selene answered still in a shy voice as she cowered behind Athanasios. "We... always... have dinner at that time..." She then looked at her fiancé as if asking that she was right on the time. "That's right." She smiled at him which he responded by patting her head. She then holds onto his arm. "Let's go, we have to buy!" He nodded at that and looked back at the spider lilies. "I will be taking these now." He took out the money left to him by Vicentius to pay for expenses. "Here is the payment." While the whole paying process is being done, he had to ask. "That is right. Do you have any favorite food or allergies?"

The woman at the desk glanced up at Vicentius and blinked slowly. “Just one second, Mr. Calloway," she stated as she glanced at the computer screen. She typed something into it, but Ezekiel knew she was just passing time until he came around the corner. He sighed to himself, though. He didn't need the doctor poking around too much. Oh, he could smell the good doctor's intentions. It wasn't every day that vampires arrived in Sanctuary, after all. He knew what the good doctor and his family were, but he didn't know why they were here.

He thought the last of the vampire vermin had been exterminated, but he supposed he'd find out what they were doing in Sanctuary. First thing was first, though—he needed to get the doctor away from the station. He knew exactly why the man was here—Aila had always been easy to read. Her emotions were as clear as day. The doctor was here to check up on Ezekiel, but he couldn't have that. Instead, he cleared his throat, and walked into the doctor's view. He purposefully stayed behind the counter, though. Doctor or not, he wasn't allowed to go behind the counter.

“Doctor Calloway," he stated, offering the doctor a feigned smile. “What can I do for you?" he asked, keeping the smile in place. The phone nearest to him began to ring, and Adelaide, the woman at the desk, answered. It was strange, though, considering that the phone that rang was the one used for emergencies.

“Ma'am, please calm down. Where are you?" she spoke in a calm, trained voice. Ezekiel raised a brow as Adelaide scribbled something down on a piece of paper. “Alright, the Sheriff is on his way," she spoke, hanging up the phone and glancing up towards Ezekiel. “An animal attack," she stated, handing Ezekiel the piece of paper with the address on it. “She claims it wasn't a dog, though. It was a creature with no hair, elongated arms and legs, and sharp fangs," she continued. Ezekiel would have rolled his eyes, but he had a certain air to display.

“Sorry Calloway," he stated, leaning back to grab his jacket, “perhaps another time?" He didn't leave much room for a response before leaving out the front door.

Aila smiled at the response and nodded her head. “We will be there," she replied, watching as Adrien nodded his head as well. She was excited about getting to know this family. She wanted to know where they were from, what they liked. Learning about new people was always interesting to her, and she supposed it had to do with the fact that she hadn't really left Sanctuary. Something kept her here, some invisible line that pulled on her mind if the thought even crossed her.

“I do not," Adrien replied to Arthur's question. For as long as she'd known him, Adrien ate almost everything she put in front of him. If he had allergies, she would have known about them one way or another. She shook her head in way of response, as well.

“Not that I am aware of," and she hoped she didn't. Food was delicious, and she loved to eat. It would be devastating to her if she couldn't eat certain foods, but she knew some people did have allergies. She felt bad for them, but at least there were alternatives to it. Before Adrien could lead the way to the grocery, the phone went off, however; Aila pursed her lips together. It wasn't the shop phone, nor her cellphone. From the look on Adrien's face, it wasn't his, either. Both of them turned towards Arthur and Celeste. Perhaps it was one of theirs?

"Thank you." Vicentius' expression did not change even though he is aware of what the woman was doing. He remained patient. There was no need for him to make much of a fuss since his purpose was already present. It was amusing really since he is reminded that he is playing a game. The demeanor of the Sheriff intrigued him. The first time they met at the flower shop made his senses pick up on something. The establishment of rapport with local enforcement and Aila's request were not the only reasons he came to the police station in a rather abrupt manner. He did take advantage of the white-haired girl's concern but he was not really the kind of person that cares about people's health in any way or form. There is always another meaning behind the actions he does no matter how innocent it looks like. He has never been the kind who shows his cards in any given situation.

"Sheriff Jones. My apologies. It might seem abrupt my visit here." He started but was not able to continue when the phone nearest to them rang. It was rather annoying that he was tempted to crush it but nothing negative came through his mask. His annoyance ended quite quickly though when he heard the women speak about an animal attack. It should not be something that he should care about. Those types of scenarios are possible in this small mountainous town. The description of the animal, however, was something he is very familiar with. His expression did not show his interest though but only that of concern. He is the resident doctor of this town and such attacks would be under his jurisdiction in regards to injuries or dead bodies.

That is why he was about to say that he would be coming along. It is imperative to treat the victim especially if they are on the verge of death and all. The sheriff though did not wait for any input from him as he left in a hurry. That was normal but he has a feeling that there was something else in that action. "Excuse me." He looked at the receptionist again. "I did not mean to eavesdrop on the conversation but I am the replacement for Dr. Brixton. I would like to know where the incident happened. It is best that I go there to asses the situation of the victim. Animal attacks, after all, can cause gruesome injuries." His eyes of gold reflected seriousness to fulfill his duty as a doctor and also a concern befitting of his profession. "I would like to prevent the situation from getting worse." There is a semblance of truth behind that and whether the receptionist gave it or not, he left the police station.

ImageHe then made a call. "Cancel the dinner plans." That interaction can be rescheduled. "We have termites. I'll call for exterminators." A scent familiar filled the air before he ended the call. His voice was calm and his expression pristine. No one could tell that something out of ordinary occurred. He then made another call as he continues to walk with an unhurried pace. "Yes, I am calling because I found a termite in my house." The person on the other line spoke. "I don't know if there is a colony." He nodded his head. "All right. I will do that. Thank you for the assistance." The line went dead then after he looked at his cellphone thoughtfully. It seems my suspicion was right.

The blood he smelled before now has a good cause. It's quite the coincidence to find that animal here while looking for the Ancestor. It solidifies the fact that Sanctuary has a secret that is worthy of unearthing. He kept his phone and decided to go where that attack happened. The scent tells him where it is and without rain, it's better. It would be interesting to see that Sheriff's reaction about this. He is curious about the scene he would be seeing once he arrives there but of course as a very nice doctor.

ImageAthanasios simply nodded his head as he picked up the pots of spider lilies which Selene happily looked at. It was not an understatement to say that she looks rather adorable. But, he knew better that it was nothing more but an act that she uses for her selfish desires. It was at that point that the phone rang. He stood there with his usual uninterested expression. He only noticed that it was his when Adrien and Aila looked at him. Selene, on the other hand, completely ignored it and kept looking at the spider lilies.

"Hello." It was Vicentius which Athanasios already knew since it was the only guy who knew his number. He was not fond of technology really. So, he usually likes doing things manually. He would admit that it made physical labor easier but he never liked doing such things in the first place. That is why it has not much of an effect on him. "Okay." The call ended and one cannot guess if the call was a good one or not. He has never been expressive after all.

"The dinner is cancelled." Athanasios said like it was just another boring weather report.

ImageThat is when Selene finally shifted her attention from the spider lilies to what Athanasios just said. She has an idea that it was Vicentius who called but for him to cancel what he had already planned about before. That meant something awfully messy happened. After all, that blue-haired vampire was never the type to deviate from his detailed plan. "Cancelled? Did something happened with Vic?"

Athanasios looked at Selene. "He is fine." He answered then looked back at Aila and Adrien. "We will reschedule." He took Selene's hand. "We will be going now." She looked back at Adrien and Aila and waved her hand to bid them goodbye as Athanasios lead her out of the shop. Once, they were far, she asked her watchdog about the details. "What happened?" He didn't have to answer that but they are sent here as a coven. He has a guess that they would be ordered by the Council since they are here now. "Termites." That should be enough. "Good. I am hungry." She said with a very sweet smile on her face.

Aila looked confused when Arthur spoke. She looked like she was about to ask why, however; Arthur left with his fiancée in tow. She glanced in Adrien's direction with her lips pursed together. “Do you think everything is alright?" she asked him, moving around the corner so that she could go to the front door. She glanced in the direction they had left, before her attention returned to Adrien.

“I'm sure everything is fine, Aila. Perhaps something came up, and they had to cancel? I'm sure you can ask them about it at a later time, but you have a store that needs your attention," he spoke to her, smiling in her direction to reassure her that everything would be fine. From what he caught on the other side, they had termites. It would be a poor host to have a dinner with an infested house, however; they seemed to be getting an exterminator to deal with it.

“If you say so," she responded, smiling slightly as she turned her attention back to the list she had been working on. She picked up the pen she'd been using, and tapped it lightly against her bottom lip. “What do you think we should use this year? We have a few aster and lilies," she stated. He knew she was referring to the booth setup for the Camilia festival.

“Anemone, Daisy, and Geranium," he listed off a few flowers that would be easier to maintain, and looked aesthetically pleasing when put together. “Oh, and Gardenia," he added. Aila shook her head, but smiled, writing down the flowers he'd listed. At least that was what he assumed she was doing.

“You're fine, Miss Vitali--it's just a scratch," Ezekiel spoke as he placed a hand on Sienna's shoulder. The woman was pale, as if she'd seen a ghost, however; Zeke stated that it was due to shock. Sienna had never been attacked before, and she was clearly in some state of panic. Amaryllis didn't know much about that, but she was still learning how to read certain conditions. She had arrived just after Zeke had, having been told over the radio about the situation. She knew he could handle it alone, but Sienna was the bakery owner, and a dear friend of Aila's and Amaryllis'. She wanted to make sure she was okay.

“Can you describe what the animal looked like, Sienna?" she asked, pulling out a notepad to jot down whatever she could. Sienna rubbed her forearm, just above the wound, and nodded slowly.

“It was like a hairless dog, but... it wasn't a dog. It was far too big to be one. The legs... they were... long-limbed, and the snout...," she paused to take a breath, and Amaryllis waited for her to continue. “The snout was long, and its canines... they shouldn't have been that long, and those eyes," it was at this point that Amaryllis motioned for Sienna to stop. It was obvious that whatever the animal was, it had scared Sienna.

“Perhaps we should take you to the clinic, Sienna? Have the doc look at your arm to make sure it's not infected," she spoke softly. Sienna didn't immediately answer, though, and Amaryllis glanced at Zeke, who just shook his head.

I see... Vicentius had arrived at the site where the said animal attack happened. The scent both familiar and annoying led him to the place. He took his time though to look around without alerting others. He has been told to assess the situation and to see if there is more of these ghouls present at Sanctuary. It would appear that there was only one and has gotten away. This could be troublesome. They are already here and to send another coven just for clean up would not be efficient. It would also impede their investigation since new faces would be arriving in this town for that scenario. It would definitely raise a lot of suspicions. That is why it would be most likely assigned to his coven to eliminate the ghoul and its friends if there are. This would be another chore. The witch would love it though. He would be reporting to the Council after taking a look at the victim. That is when he finally decided to enter the scene.

Image"It is best I look at that." He looked at the victim which appears to be the bakery owner who he had been acquainted with. He did recently bought the pastries Sienna suggested to give to Aila earlier. "All right, Ms. Sienna?" He made his approach and looked at Amaryllis as he gave her a nod to acknowledge her presence and then at the Sheriff. He has a feeling that Ezekiel finds him rather troublesome. He might need to tone it down or maybe not. We shall see...

He kindly smiled at Sienna. "I will look at it now, Ms. Sienna, okay?" He slowly reached out to her as he held the arm that was injured. He inspected it and whether it was serious or not, there was nothing in his expression that gave it away. He was simply calm about it. "It doesn't require any stitching." He took out a small medical kit. "This will sting a bit." He dabbed her wound with antiseptic and made sure to clean the blood off. "You will be fine, Ms. Sienna." He then placed some anti-bacterial cream before wrapping it up with sterile gauze. His movements were precise and gentle. There was nothing to doubt that he knows what he is doing. "There you go. I would still like it if you come by the clinic tomorrow."

He cleaned up his things. "After that, I would like to hear your advice on what type of dessert is best served at dinner." He said with a smile and then looked back at the Sheriff. "I would like to see you at the clinic tomorrow as well Sheriff." He looked back at Sienna. "There is something I wanted to discuss with you and I think, Ms. Sienna would feel safer if you accompany her." He then looked at Amaryllis. "Ah yes, Ms. Amaryllis. I would like to inform you that dinner for tonight is canceled. I had a bit of problem at the Manor. So, I would have to reschedule it. My apologies."

ImageAthanasios had returned to Aegis Manor with Selene. Normally, he would have tracked the ghoul already and eliminated it. That is his primary function before becoming a member of a coven. But, he has a prior mission. The appearance of a ghoul in this town was a surprising event. He was certain there had been no previous reports about such occurrences. For now, he will be waiting for further instructions from Vicentius. He has assumed though that the responsibility of extermination would befall to their coven anyway.

"Still no calls?" Selene's voice flittered through the office that had been assigned to Athanasios. It was evident in her tone that she is getting a bit impatient. He did not answer though because there was no need to answer really in his opinion. He instead looked at the papers that had been piled on his desk. They were about the repairs of the manor and the renovation of the garden. He is mainly assigned to such administrative work. "Why can't we just hunt them now?" She pouted as she released an irritated sigh.

Athanasios continued with his paperwork while Selene grumbled on her own before thinking of something.

Image"Tell me." Selene was actually reading a book of a dead language, Sumerian. She never looked at Athanasios as she spoke earlier until now. "Do you think that person is really here?" That was the only time as well that he stopped paying attention to his documents. His jeweled blue eyes looked at her. "That reminds me. You are not born into this life." A smile displayed on her lips. "You were changed for it."

"I just want to sleep." Athanasios answered in his usual bored tone. Whatever happened in the past. It was not a concern that he cares for really. As for meeting that person, he really didn't care. Ancestor or the Plague designed for Vampires do not concern him at all. After all, it has no effect on him or is he bothered by the possibility of dying. Everyone dies at some point. All he wants is just a nice place to sleep. That is all. "You must be the origin of that story, Sleeping Beauty." She chuckled lightly at that and continued with her reading. He shrugged at that and continued with his paperwork. "You will eat them soon enough." He then pointed at the bottle of pills. "For now, take that." She did not look at the bottle of pills and just groaned.
