Introduction

INTRODUCTION:
The world has perished, and from it’s death a new one has dawned. Hundreds of years have passed, and though the old world has been lost to mystery one aspect is remembered well: It was liveable in a way this new world is not.

But there is still hope. Myths and legends speak of a long lost dream - the Change needed to bring life back to the world, hidden somewhere in the Qafar desert. The kin of the old have risen and formed clans across the sand, mostly isolated, divided, and surviving wherever they can. Civilization has rebuilt itself in some corners and certain clan's have made great cities while others remain as scavengers in huts - separate but united in the universal belief in the Change.

It is now the Year 393 and for the clans of the Qafar a new age of trade and exploration have dawned. The world is still as deathly and cruel as it has always been, but the mystery has begun to fade as charts and maps and tales of places beyond the desert become more common. The legend of the Change has become just that: a legend, with only the travelling Nomads still searching the desert and believing in it's dream.

But exploration also reveals new threats. In the west the newly contacted Wetlanders have united in a single Empire and have engulfed the edge of the desert in red. Though their warfare has never fully breached the Qafar one of their military Leviathan Airships now enters the Sea of Sand, chasing one man. The Wetland Traitor flees their blaster fire and heads toward the outpost of Dol-Duna, looking for the legendary Naima Nomad clan. According to myth the Naima were the closest to ever finding the Change, which is good, because the Wetland Traitor has just stolen the most valuable thing in the world - proof that the Change is real. The wanderers and nomads of the desert are about to be pulled into the journey of a lifetime, an adventure to save their world.

NOMAD CLAN:
Nomad Clan is a fantasy rp with sci-fi elements set in a post-post apocalyptic world, loosely inspired by middle-eastern and North African culture. There’s not necessarily magic in the world but there are elements of mysticism, and the sci-fi element is less scientific and much more a general used future aesthetic. It’s made by the same rp’ers who did the Great Guild Fortune and the Ultimate Organization, and similarly the premise of the rp is having an adventure in this large, unknown, dangerous but beautiful desert world that we sort of explore and develop together. And, also like those rp’s, the interweaving plots and characters will eventually get pretty complex, so we encourage communication with other members of the Nomad Clan to plan cool things out as much as possible to make as awesome a story as can be.

THE STORY SO FAR:
Day 1 – 10th of June, 393:
Dol-Duna is the most westerly outpost of the Qafar desert, home to the Dol Clan. Though it is a small, trade based community it receives a great many visitors, it's situated among the fastest western route through the Sea of Sand from the north of the Qafar to the south. Today it’s number of visitors are tripled, hundreds of travellers filling Dol-Duna on the first day of the Summer Bazaar – a yearly festival event where surrounding clans travel to Dol-Duna to sell their wears all at once, taking advantage of it’s prime location.

However, the influx of visitors also means higher chances of chaos. Vicious Salamand creatures are let loose, destroying several stands and attacking citizens. Among their victims are Tetra Malgore, a milk and cheese vendor, whose goats are let loose, Ka’Wa Jekund, whose fruit stand is attacked, and Xaverius Rusten, a clanless traveller who gets injured by the beasts. Thessir, an isolated traveller, Elise Seaver, an adventure-seeker stuck in Dol-Duna, Aisha Abdul’la, an acolyte of the Samariam Creed, and Dustin vel Iz’Raphel, an adventurer, all get roped into the chaos, as do the clanless Bohdana Yātrī and her Uncle Andle.

The situation is soon resolved, though Ka’Wa’s boss Davikal seems to hold some sort of grudge against the group for the chaos that’s been caused. Meanwhile, outside the town, a man known as the Wetland Traitor Skullian sprints toward Dol-Duna. He’s stolen something of great value from his Wetlander kin – a small golden Idol with strange letters carved across it. Skullivan reaches Dol-Duna but upon entering the main-market is attacked on by guards, they recognizing his tattered uniform as being Wetlander. He’s soon arrested and placed in a cage, his Idol dropped in the process.

Bohdana spots the Idol in the market and takes it, despite her Uncle’s warning not to involve herself. Ka’Wa, Uluru, Sören, Thessir, Aisha, and Elise all visit Skullivan’s cage, where he reveals he’s looking for the Legendary Naima Nomad Clan and that if they don’t help him their town would be destroyed. A giant Wetlander Airship is coming after him, he reveals. A Wetlander Leviathan. Skullivan says that the Wetlanders are searching for the Change – that they have proof it’s real, proof in the Golden Idol he stole. Sören, choosing to believe him, helps weaken the bars of Skullivan’s cage before heading toward the local bar, where knowledge seeker Whisper, Xaverius, and Dustin have all migrated to. Outside Musa spots another member of her clan: Avari, who is dancing in the market. Though of the same clan, the two do not always see eye to eye. Suddenly the festivities are interrupted as a giant, metal air-ship blocks out the sun over the skies of Dol-Duna. Wetland soldiers descend on the town, led by the sinister Wetland Commander, who explains that no one is allowed to leave until they capture Skullivan. With the help of Sören's weakened bars Skullivan manages to escape his cage, and the Wetlanders begin to search the town as well as offering a reward of gold to anyone who turns Skullivan in.

Aisha and Elise, both having found out that they are of the same clan, decide to hunt for Skullivan themselves – though soon find themselves lost, meeting Bohdana along the way. The three enter a mysterious tent down the street, and find that it Is run by Mirova, the Mir of the Naima Nomad Clan – the same clan Skullivan was searching for. Bohdana gives her the artefact she took off the street, not wanting anything to do with it, but before the four women can speak more Wetlander guards come. Mirova wraps up her tent and runs off, the Idol in hand, as the other three women flee. Bohdana runs into the marketplace while Elise and Aisha go another path.

In the Iron bar hostile Wetlander soldiers threaten patrons and a fight breaks out, ending with Sören, Whisper, Dustin and Xaverius victorious. Whisper, however, isn’t satisfied, and to cover up the scene she murders the bartender and sets the establishment on fire. The foursome escape into a wagon and make their way toward the edge of town. They don’t make it far, however, as Wetland soldiers stop them on the road.

Meanwhile, intrigued by the situation Musa, Thessir, and Uluru all go after Skullivan separately, though none of them trust the Wetlanders or straight up intend to turn him in. The Cowboy Ninja Jake intends to find Skullivan for the reward, and also begins his hunt. Thessir and Uluru find Skullivan running away at the town entrance, and soon convince him that they have to go back to get the Idol – who the Wetlanders most likely have. Skullivan agrees and the three make their way back into town, narrowly escaping confrontation with Jake and running into Elise and Aisha as they go. The group is soon confronted by Musa, who quickly takes control of things and has the group follow her.

THE CLANS: A growing list of Clans encountered across the Qafar.

Naima Nomad ClanImage
Population: 1
Settlements: None
Location: Landless
Description: The Naima Nomad Clan has a grander history than almost every other Nomad clan in the desert. While the other’s were considered reclusive pilgrims and fools by most of the desert the Naima purportedly pieced together the legend of the Change, and got the closest to ever finding it. Members of the clan once served as court advisors to the Sultan’s of Grand Yusil, and the Naima clan helped inform some of the most well funded military expeditions for the Change. But their last days of grander were over one-hundred years ago, since then they not only falling to the level of the other Nomad tribes but further. They were expelled from the city of Grand Yusil, the closest thing they had to a centre base of operations, and forced to migrate to the Western Sea of Sand. During the migration most of their remaining members died, until now over thirty years later only one remains, travelling through the towns of the Western Sea of Sand, still supposedly searching for the Change, as all Nomads do.

Clan Dol
Population: 100
Settlements: Dol-Duna Outpost
Location: Sea of Sand, Qafar Desert
Description: The clan living in the outpost of Dol-Duna. A small, mercantile community, Clan Dol has thrived from their prime location along the fastest westerly route from Margesh to Bola Brisk, a route that avoids the majority of the Sea of Sand. As one of the only settlements along the route and Dol-Duna being one of the only settlements at the edge of the desert period Clan Dol sees it's outside regularly outnumbered in their own town by travellers and drifters. The Clan is ruled by a Chief and advisor council, the citizenry equal beneath them, and a servant-slave class beneath them. Citizens can join Clan Dol if they’ve been living and contributing to the town for over five years.

Clan Yusil
Population: 5,000
Settlements: Grand Yusil, Several other settlements
Location: Sea of Sand, Qafar Desert
Description: Clan Yusil are the ruling class of Grand Yusil and the lesser Kingdoms, a conglomerate of alliances, protectorates and subjugated city-states that exist along the central stretch of the Black River. Grand Yusil is the crown jewel of the loose empire, a beacon of wealth, military might, and man-made oasis for the best of Clan Yusil and for the worse off and hundreds of other clans seeking refuge in Grand Yusil it is over-crowded streets, poverty, and taxation in exchange for safety and water inside the walls. Clan Yusil is ruled by a Sultan along with a class of royalty and nobility, beneath them the normal citizens of Clan Yusil. Second down on the social ladder are the other clan’s living inside their cities and protectorates, and at the bottom the slaves. Only members of Clan Yusil can be part of the ruling class, and Clan Yusil is only joinable by birth.

Clan Samariamus
Population: 3,800
Settlements: Currently control Samaria, Castlie and Don Valluer. Sameria being the keystone of their control.
Location: Ariket, Qafar Desert
Description: Samariamus is a monarchy, ruled by the Samariam family for generations. A peaceful clan, they seek to understand more about the White Ruin and the world around them. Harvesting many machines from the Old World. None wish to bring about the Change, instead, they focus on making life as comfortable as possible using whatever technology they can find and restore.

The University
Population: 7,300
Settlements: The Solemn Shores, which itself is a sizeable chunk of the Toxic Sea's shoreline.
Location: The coast of the Toxic Sea, Qafar Desert
Description: From it's inception just around eighty years ago, the University has been a bastion of learning in the Sea of Sand. Though knowledge of the old world had long been lost and forgotten, a gathering a of studious minds determined that thorough knowledge of the world and it's secrets would be the key to bringing a sense of education and wonder and in a world where such virtues were often forgotten. These studious minds labored for two decades, fortifying and securing an area many had claimed inhospitable and shaping it for their own use. Now where was once an ominous dunes of sand lies a massive building in the center of a impressive array of settlements and houses, guarded by a massive stone wall that encompasses the settlement.

Hellseher Clan
Population: 500 People
Settlements: Hellseherin Proper, a small nameless settlement in Alhara.
Location: Bola Brisk Mountains, Qafar Desert
Description: A brief description of the clan, including how they are ruled.
The Hellseherin Clan is said to be ruled by the Gods themselves. On a day to day basis, however, it is ultimately ruled by a clan leader, though his family is also treated as royalty. The Clan Leader act as the Mouthpiece of the Gods to share their will with the people. The person to succeed the Clan Leader is also chosen by the Gods. It's probably a coincidence that the Gods have favored the Hellseherin family since the creation of the clan. Anyone could tell you Bola Brisk is impossible to farm and everyone seems to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the power crystals work. Thus, the people of Hellseherin Proper found another way to survive. Such is human ingenuity. By Divine Intervention, as interpreted by the Clan Leader, clan members are chosen at birth to fulfill occupations in society. There are three main branches of Birthrights:

Most are trained as mercenaries and sold like livestock to the highest bidder. After the contract has been fulfilled, they return home only to be sold again. It isn't a bad life, you get to return home; even in death. The second most common birthright is akin to clerical duties. Sure, some of these people will become doctors or fill some other important necessity. Most end up as drones carrying out manual labor. Holding the purse strings makes them very popular people. It's a safe, if boring, job that fills a necessary hole in society. A select few 'lucky' infants are chosen to become Secret Keepers. This is a bit of a misnomer as they collect secrets to sell. Secret Keepers are meant to travel beyond the walls of Hellseherin Proper to collect secrets. During training, there are many tales of heroic Keepers attempting to go beyond the White Ruins to secure the biggest secret of all. Of course, they are called heroic as they died for the cause. A secret could mean any manner of information: stories, rumors, testimonies, anything. Once a Keeper has information, they broker deals to sell. Secret Keepers bring more money to their clan than any other position, but they also have the highest mortality rate. The kind of people that purchase information from a Keeper are usually also the kind to hire an assassin. It is a sign of disrespect for a Secret Keeper to return home before they reach old age and are cast out of the tribe. Even returning as an Elder has its drawbacks, it is said anyone who survives as a Keeper didn't do enough for the clan. It is better to die chasing nothing than living a long life. While Hellseherin is a thriving city now, the current and past Clan Leaders have yet to see the merit in find other sources of income.

Clan Rotgevir
Population: 800
Settlements: Kalterle, Friggal, Ostnel
Location: The Dead Forest, Qafar Desert
Description: The Rotgevir clan once called Alhara home several generations ago, and they were just one small part of a larger, more powerful clan. However, the head of the Rotgevir clan fought with the head of the larger clan, and when he lost he and his people were exiled. So they made their way closer to the Qafar Dessert proper and made a new home for themselves in the Dead Forest. Since then the clan has governed themselves in two parts; the clan leader and the elder council. The leader of the clan is always the head of the strongest, wisest family within the clan. The last three leaders have been from the Ahlgren family. The elder council is made up of the oldest members of the clan, who have seen all the years of triumph and hardship the clan has gone through. Together they make up two sides of the same coin. They may bicker over issues on occasion, but normally they end up agreeing on a solution, and if not the issue is simply dropped for the time being.

Konohana Clan
Population: 500
Settlements: Pissarro
Location: Bola Brisk, Qafar Desert
Description: The Konohana clan is a matriarchal society. They are very secluded from the outside world and hardly, if ever, interact with outsiders. Everyone herds animals of some sort, with the majority being goats and sheep. All extended members of the family live together in one place. Most families have large plots of land that they build all their houses and barns and anything else on. Each family rules themselves and doesn’t interfere with anyone else. If something big that affects everyone ever does come up, the head matriarchs from each family gather and make a unanimous decision. It doesn’t matter how long that will take, the matriarchs will stay together until they have decided. The Konohana clan gave up on the idea of the Change generations ago and don’t even teach it anymore. The only way to join this clan is through birth or marriage.

The Lakuli Clan
Population: 175
Settlements: Trenn
Location: Margesh, Qafar Desert
Description: The Lakuli people of Trenn are rough but intellgent group. Although living may be a bit primal, they have their advances here and there that changes this idea quite a bit. Said to have descendants from the Ruma Jungle, the clan was started, developed and is ruled by 5 people. Because of living conditions the people have a hard time breaking 200 population wise, but every year there is some discovery that can make living a bit easier and allows the group to grow. Trenn is a town of clay and stone aranged in various heights and lengths. The city recieves very few visitors during the year but a few scholars will endure the long trip in order to learn how such a large amount of people manage to survive near an active volcano. The five people who govern Trenn have a head who is the oldest therefore the wisest and then the ages vary in number. Varying ages allow for every age group in the Clan to be represented fairly. All in all, the clan gets along well and is rarely sought to be dominated by a larger and more powerful clan as they have very little standing rank wise.

Clan Downders
Population: 162
Settlements: Downder
Location: Bola Brisk, The Qafar Desert
Description: They are a detached few, those who dwell within the mountain. These people have lived inside the deep caverns for longer than their history texts reach. They have positively no contact with the outside world due to the dangers the creatures who also call the cave home. While some outsiders have tried in the past to brave the tunnels in hopes of seeking passage through the mountains to see the lands beyond none of them have lived to speak of what lay within.

The most notable of beasts that live within the mountain is the dreaded wirm Scarmouth. This beast is a massive worm-like creature which tunnels through the earth by secreting a powerful acid which breaks down the stone ahead of it. As it's large enough to swallow entire villages in one bite, is several miles long and covered in enormous plates of chitin which form in flat rings around it's body, each one snugly overlapping the next so as to not let anything in between them, the idea of slaying it is rarely proposed and even more rarely ever taken seriously. Adding to it's lethality is also the fact that a wirm can expel from it's mouth almost it's entire weight in acid like a geyser of destruction. They have a way of protecting themselves from the great wirm however. Their alchemists have passed along the recipe to this special concoction for countless generations, a concoction for a special glowing yellow paint which wards it away. Little is understood as to why this paint keeps wirms away but they use it nonetheless as it is what keeps their humble clan from complete destruction. Every ten months they hold a ritual for their reapplication of the paint.

As far as leadership is concerned theirs is none too complicated. They have what they call the High Decider, a person who passes judgement and makes choices regarding most issues within the clan. As their clan is fairly small this task is not too difficult though often the choices require wise consideration and stern resolve. Each other division of labor is overseen by the Overseers, those elected by the High Decider to Oversee any given group's task based on their specialty. When the High Decider dies and another one hasn't already been chosen then the last person to apply the sacred paint is made the new High Decider.

Downders, named of course after the Downder cavern in which they reside, are quite unlike most peoples in that having lived without any form of sunlight whilst subsisting mostly off moss and bat meat has changed them. Practically all Downders are able to climb with veritable ease as going anywhere pretty much requires climbing. Their eyes are strange and wide in order to pick up on faint sources of light. This allows them to see in nearly complete darkness. Their skin is completely white as there is no need for melanin when there is no sunlight. The caverns which they live within are truly marvelous, unfathomably rich in all sorts of minerals. The underground river upon which their village resides upon is partly responsible for shaping most of these networks of caverns, making massive and spectacular caverns out of truly gargantuan veins of gemstones. This has led this clan to develop a superior knowledge of the uses one can make of gems. While in some fields their technology is woefully undernourished as a result of their isolation from the world in general when it comes to things taken from the earth they are well ahead of other clans in such branches of knowledge.

Atzerii Clan
Population: 2,000
Settlements: Kasselland, Zer Shurai, Sol-Thunai, various other smaller settlements.
Location: Ariket, Qafar Desert
Description: The Atzerii clan is a decently sized clan population-wise with the territory to accommodate for it. Spread out along the Kassen Mountains stretching from northern Ariket to southeastern edge, the Atzerii make up the last stretch of eastern civilization before the White Ruin begins on the other side of the mountain range. With a population estimated to be around 2,000 the biggest population centers of the Atzerii contain at most several hundreds of men, women, and children. Zer Shurai, the capital of Atzerii civilization, lies within the center of their territory and is the most populated. Kasselland, the second most populated prefecture, is the northernmost outpost of Atzerii territory nearing the edge where Ariket meets the Dead Forest, the lingual influence of the tribes up north evident in the name of the settlement. Sol-Thunai is the southernmost and third most populated with the Toxic Sea region just south of it. The remaining population take up in small villages and hamlets scattered about between the three aforementioned locations.

The Atzerii Clan is ruled by a council made up of elected council members who congregate to speak on matters within Zer Shurai, their capital. Each "city" has its own local government made up of a smaller council containing an elected head and body of tribunals. It wasn't long until families began to have monopolies on council positions, thus leading to the development of an extensive aristocracy within major Atzerii population centers. Each city has a patron god of the Atzerii pantheon to which they pray. Known colloquially by their titles, their names are hardly spoken aloud, an exception given only to religious leaders within the deep inner sanctums of temple throne rooms. Kasselland's patron is The Shorn King, Zer Shurai's known as The Omniking, and Sol-Thunai's patron god being Her Highblood.

Each major settlement also has a warlord position who acts as a chief of combat forces dealing in hunting, defense, and warring in general. This title is called First Sword and only one individual in each city holds this title. This title holds political responsibility as well and military authority, acting as a general rank and honorary council position at once. Though there are three at one time, none are called Second or Third Swords. All three are referred to in plural as the Swords of At'iiz, or more simply as the Swords.

Saule Clan
Population: 986
Settlements: There are two settlements, though small, that the Shams clan does claim. One is known as the Baclas and the other, Sterakl. They are small, about 150 people in each.
Location: Sea of Sand
Description: Made of proud people, the Saule clan was once known as a clan of great respect and wealth. They were warriors who made many advancements on their own until they were invaded by the Somolon clan and reduced greatly. Few people remain and are scattered, often moving to find better opportunities for their children. The hope of the clan is to once again, be known as a great warrior clan. They are strong believes in a deity known as the Sun's Warrior (pictured below) who is said to bless warriors who constantly work under the sun towards a brighter future. They believe that even if the sun burns their skin and makes them weak, it is for their own good to become stronger for the sun is light and warmth. To show weakness, to show frailty, is to rouse anger and disappointment. The Saule clan believes that those who do should lie in the hot sands to become that which stronger warriors can walk on.
Because of their size, they have leaders in the two settlements but otherwise, dictate themselves because of the scattered numbers. If there is a handful in a near proximity, they will ultimately choose a leader to confer with and monitor the progress of future generations.

OTHER NATIONS: Countries and states that do not fit inside the clan system.

Empire of the Wetlands
Population: 37,000
Settlements: Several unknown settlements
Location: The Wetlands
Description: A relatively recently contacted, militaristic empire despised by the people of the Qafar. Though details are scare the Empire has unified much of the Wetlands through conquest and the power of their war-machines. Unlike the clans the Wetlands do not seem to use Taqa crystals to fuel their machinery, and instead harness some sort electro-magnetic power. The Empire of the Wetlands are ruled by an Empress, but society beneath her remains a mystery.

SOCIETY:
The clans of the Qafar are close-knit people under a common culture. A clan is the most important thing in the societies of the Qafar desert; the clan's almost being a unique form of government onto themselves. Even if a clan has multiple settlements under their control, the rulers of these settlement's are not considered supreme leaders, but the leader's of the clan are, with mayors and rulers answering to them, making the clan's themselves the highest form of government in the desert. Clan to clan society's vary drastically, from simple hunter-gatherer communities to more advanced monarchies and democratic systems. There are as many unique communities in the Qafar as there are clans, making it both a vastly diverse if not very fractured land. What determines who can be part of a clan also varies, with some clan's accepting outsiders into their kin with no hesitation while other's keep the clan's separate and forbid clan integration.

TECHNOLOGY:
A unique feature of the Qafar desert is the growth of Taqa Crystals, amber coloured crystals found in rock that contain energy. Raw Taqa Crystals can be altered to conduct different types of energy, and are used to fuel almost all power across Qafar, from combustion engines to electric batteries. Engineering in the desert is mainly the product of salvaging metals and materials from the Old World to create practical work vehicles such as hover transports, water purifiers, and primitive labour robotics.

THE WORLD: There are six known lands, generally defined and separated by a major biome each, listed below.

The Qafar Desert:
The Qafar Desert has six regions - The Sea of Sand, Margesh, Ariket, the Toxic Sea, Bola Brisk, and the Dead Forest.

The Sea of Sand is a hot, dry stretch of sandy desert coating most of central Qafar, occasional oasis, mountain, or rivers the only salvation from it's deathly dunes. But the Sea of Sand does have one saving grace. In the centre of the Sea is the Black River, the largest River in the Qafar and home to some of it's most advanced and prosperous clans.

ImageMargesh is a volcanic, mountainous region in the south-west and home to Mt. Margesh - a gargantuan, active volcano. Though it's continuous eruptions and fiery terrain make Margesh deadly it's soft soils are the most fertile in Qafar, and it has one of the only fresh-water sources in the entire desert, the Lake of Fire at the base of Mt. Margesh.

Ariket is a semi-arid, rocky region in the east - stone, sands and gravel coating it's earth, broken up by small mountains and canyons. Ariket has rare stretches of vegetation and becomes more and more stark the more east one moves, as it's rocky, lifeless terrain turns into the White Ruin - the unsurvivable land.

The Toxic Sea is a large, chaotic body of water in the south-east, and includes the various islands within and the mountainous and desert coast surrounding it. The Toxic Sea's water is undrinkable, it having a greyish hue and reportedly able to cause organ damage if digested. Still, the communities along the sea have managed to navigate it more successfully than the rest of desert, creating vast trading networks with the islands and coasts clans. Still, the weather can be deadly, and a whirlpool called the Khal Maw rages in the centre of the sea.

Bola Brisk is a mountainous, cold desert region stretching across most of the north and north-west of the Qafar. It is a cold, arid desert boxed in by mountainous peaks of white, and while it has more exposed water than the rest of the Qafar, with frost occasionally touching it's dunes down from the mountains, it makes up for it with extreme temperatures and rocky terrain almost impossible to farm on or sustain life.

The Dead Forest is a cold region in the north-east of the Qafar, covered almost entirely by a vast forest of hardened, dead, black and red trees. The Dead Forest sits at the base of the Red Mountain, so called for it's unusual tint, and though icy rivers and soft soil line the forest earth the lack of sunlight and temperatures that can dip below freezing make it difficult to sustain life.

The Wetlands:
Not much is known about the Wetlands to the west, though to the clans of the Qafar it's considered a paradise for it has the one thing they desperately need: water. Constant rain, lakes and greenery are said to stretch out across the Wetlands, and though to the clans that may seem idyllic in reality the Wetland's are just as deadly as the desert.

Alhara (Sunless Nation):
The icy, mountainous region to the north-west, and considered by many to be just as deadly as the Qafar - stories of frozen bodies and foodless waste widespread. The south of Alhara is perhaps the most hospitable, many lakes and rivers reportedly sprouting out the mountain ranges, though stories of tribal warfare and barbaric slaughters almost always accompany them.

Ruma Jungle (Home of the Trees):
A mysterious green region to the south said to be filled with fertile soil and dense jungles, though plagued by an abundance of deadly creatures at almost every step. Many try to reach the Ruma only to find the voyage across the western desert impossible to cross or the route through the Toxic Sea impossible to successfully navigate. What little contact the Clans have had with the people of the Ruma have been brief, and the society of the jungle people's remain a mystery.

Shattered Earth:
A ruinous land covered in eternal darkness – the shattered Earth is a place where the ground has collapsed in; leaving in it’s wake a massive pit of unstable pillars and darkness. Not much is known about the Shattered Earth, though it is considered by many to be the worst place on Earth – and those who inhabit this dangerous region are considered among the most deadly and frightening in the world.

The White Ruin:
To the east of Ariket, the White Ruin is the point at which the hard desert stretches on with no more life easterly, just the rocks and the burning sun. There is no life past the White Ruin, it considered entirely impossible to cross. What lays beyond the White Ruin is a mystery, one the clans of the Qafar are unable to solve anytime soon.

With one autmaton taken down, Uluru turned his attention towards the remaining three. The two spitting fire from their hands were the most trouble as they had created an intense wall of flame. Uluru set out, raising his gauntlets to blast the exposed wiring of one of the fire-bots, electrocution it's systems, causing it's functions to cease cease as it came toppling down upon another robot sentry behind it.

"Well, I think it's a little too late for this one," Aisha explained somberly, although the sudden interest had been surprising, "But, it's not an infectious disease, so, we wouldn't have to worry about that. It's merely caused by a dietary deficiency, specifically in Vitamin C. I don't know if you understand what that is, but, all it takes is reintroducing it into your diet to fix. Kale, buckthorn, rose hips, parsley, all those things have plenty of that if you need it, but the best cure is probably citrus fruit, if that's available. If you're desperate, there's accounts of raw meats and liver having sufficient nutrients. I've only seen it among travelers and impoverished children, but, it's treatable within two weeks." Aisha cleared her throat before mentioning, "I'm well taught in medicine, most travelling acolytes are, but I in particular have had over two years of personal tutelage." She bowed her head slightly.

Dustin was upon the felled automatons in seconds. Each crystal was stabbed with his scimitar resulting in the shattering of the energized Taqa and the subsequent shutdown of the metal behemoths. The Kassellander spun around to the remaining one as it turned on the masquerading bounty hunters with its flame throwing hands.

Dustin kited around the flames as the automaton struggled to pick a target out of the numerous standing before it and made his way over to its legs. A quick scan revealed how much of a patchwork the large lumbering robot really was. Metal was scarce, refined metal that is, especially in the Sea of Sands. There were missing plates here or there which easily exposed the network of wiring that ran through the legs of the automaton like sinews of muscle. Dustin drew one of his daggers and pressed down a small, flat crystal on the butt of its grip that ignited a bright orange glow in the translucent blade.

Finding his chance, the Atzerii dashed to the automaton's heels and stabbed the dagger into the exposed wires of one of the legs, causing a surge of energy within the robot's leg. As if its nonexistent nervous system was overloading, the leg went rigid before spasming. Well, spasming as much as robotic joints would allow. Regardless, the irregular movement caused the metal giant to topple, allowing Dustin a clean stab into its main power source crystal, ending the last of Rowlen's small defense.

Dustin let out a breath of effort having had to dodge flames and metal limbs from burning him alive and breaking his bones. Bright blue eyes looked at the smaller man accompanied with a bored expression. "Rowlen," he started, walking casually off the body of the disabled automaton and towards the weathered engineer. "Your plan will not work." His gruff "bounty hunter" voice was gone, replaced with his normally sophisticated and accented tone. "As soon as Dol-Duna is taken down, word will spread and the other clans will unite. Grand Yusil might even destroy the Aklar themselves, and it will not be at the fault of the Meltsanders. No... It will be at your fault."

Elise watched as the automatons fell one by one, thanks mostly to Uluru and Dustin. "He's right, Rowlen. You stand no chance!" she started, making her way to Dustin's side. She held her blades loosely, ready for whatever the engineer could throw at them. "I feel sorry for your people, they will die because of your arrogance, and your inability to swallow your pride and seek help from others!" She shook her head, "I've traveled the sands for years, and in my time I've found more people willing to help others than people who wish to bring harm." She stared at her boots, scraping her left foot on the ground nervously. "I had a run in with some Meltsanders, and they left me for dead with, but rather than someone simply putting me out of my misery, a kind family took me to Dol-Duna and paid for my medical care I could have never repaid them or their kindness." Her gaze met Rowlen's as she narrowed her eyes and raised her blade threateningly, "I will not allow you to hurt innocent people and bring war to the Qafar."

Mirova blinked as Aisha explained. "Foods with vitamin c..." She murmured, glancing up. "I think the Meltsander Camp had food supplies but that was... that was hours away."

The Naima glanced up around the prison cell - abandoned save for them. "Perhaps this Citadel has some secrets though... if we can feed the people and heal them perhaps they will help us take over this godforsaken clan."

"Hey!" Skullivan's deep voice called from behind the group, causing them to turn. The man's lanky form sprinted towards them. "Guys, Rowlen is insane! He's trying to murder us all and destroy all the surrounding clans!" Skullivan came to a stop at Musa, breathing heavily as he did. "I... I ran through half the citadel trying to find you guys."

"Did you see any food storage?" Mirova asked, stepping forward.

Skullivan nodded. "Yeah, there was a big room - mainly grain but a few fruits. Apples, oranges. Seems like some sort of emergency reserves in case the village starves."

"How strange, that they would be keeping perishable foods in reserve," Aisha voiced her thinking, "The very same kinds of foods that is apparently lacking in their diets... And speaking of which, cases of scurvy only pop up among people who become reliant on meat-based diets, so... Are they really so sheltered?"

A thought was triggered within Aisha, albeit a somewhat unrelated one: if the Aklar were so unexposed to the outside, including outside theology, then perhaps they were just ripe for indoctrination. As far as Aisha could see, if they continued on the path they were on, the Aklar was going to continue to decay into self-destruction, if the Meltsand Clan didn't destroy them first, but by following the principles of the Creed to achieve a better lifestyle, they could be saved. It would have been just like a story from Recollections.

"In that case," Aisha spoke out, "we must seek the allegiance of the Aklar people. Rowlen must lose legitimacy in the eyes of the people, or else they will stand by him and we will become the public enemy, which will only create more suffering among us all. When the public loses faith in their leader, they will become our allies," and will find a leader in the strongest voice, something Aisha didn't say yet it was what she was thinking, "and we can overthrow their disillusioned leader altogether, and, um, discuss how we'll go from there, but, I would like to see a diplomatic resolution between Aklar and Meltsand. Yes, I believe that even forgiveness is possible between them, but, let us cross that road when we get to it."

"For now, let us work in mutual interest of stopping this Rowlen," Aisha explained, "and to do so, we must create a plan to achieve this goal to expose him. For this, foremost importantly, I require an audience with the Aklar public."

"My goal is to prevent war! To end strife before it reaches my people...but you can't possibly understand that, can you outsiders? How allowing the falsehoods of such concepts such as the kindness of outsiders influence us and allow the poison to seep in!" He cried as he edged towards his deadly machine."

Uluru pointed at Rowlen with his sword, "Shit, someone hurry. Before he flicks it on!" Uluru shouted, but due to their scuffle with the autamatons, they were far further from the machine then they wanted to be.

Rowlen pulled down a lever, utilizing all his strength in and the machine started to shake and hum, the crystals powering up with a crackling glow.

Musa had jumped back when the glass of her cage shattered after some warning from Slathe; she had heard his name a few times back in the infirmary. Now she was standing with the group of phony prisoners and listening to the chatter about the plight of the Aklars. Tiptoeing around shattered glass, so as to make sure they wouldn't pierce her little flats, she gazed down at the dead guard.

Then Skullivan came running up and his presence, and loud speech made her want to hit him. Then it made her remember that she had lost her weapon to the sands some time ago. So she tiptoed over to the broken cages and set to work locating an undamaged bar of glass and breaking it off. She then struck the bar against the wall until she could get a clean break. After a few minutes, she had two poles of sparkling glass. "Very nice.." She mumbled while sliding one into her former staff holster on her back.

She returned to the group just as Aisha finished stating her plans for unifying the Aklars and the Meltsanders. Her golden eyes glance over to Skullivan and without a word, she gave him a good strike to his thigh with the glass pole that wasn't on her back. She then stepped forward, past Aisha, Slathe & Mirova, and around the dead guard "There is no time for planning and plotting public meetings, Acylote. There is a rumble in the halls and sand is spilling through the ceiling. I feel a lurch in my belly and I feel as if our friends are in danger." She spoke while walking forward.

"Wrong again, fire-lander," Mirova hissed at Musa, her red-eye's sparkling beneath the golden lights of the citadel. "The Aklar are all starving outside Rolwen's grand citadel - we came in on that lift, we can go back out and speak to them," Mirova explained, her pale finger pointing toward a lift.

Slathe grunted, ripping a blade off the dead guard and glaring up at them. "Well, right now we're free - so let's do what we came her to do and end this war," With a whistle Slathe indicated to his men, and Sulfurious, to follow him. "Skullivan," He demanded, angrily. "Show us to Rowlen."

Skullivan swallowed. "...Ok," He nodded, glancing between Slathe and Musa. "Follow me." With a nervous glance back Skullivan began to lead the Metlsander's away, to another lift- this one leading to Rowlen's chamber.

Dustin darted for the large orb machine as soon as Rowlen through the lever and began slashing at any and every wire he could find. Sparks seemed to spray out like hose from the ends of severed cables as he swung this way and thought, sure to slice anything important looking. He even began kicking at the smaller crystals that protruded from the orb as he made an absolute mess of the rag-tag machine the Aklar Clan's chief engineer had thrown together. He didn't know if any of it actually did, but it was the best thing they could do. Trying anything would be better than sitting there and watching as Dol-Duna and Meltsand crumbled to the earth.

Xaverius followed Dustin's lead, running up to the contraption and pulling out any wires he could, he also did his best to dislodge the crystals within the device. Sparks flew around, some hitting him and singeing his clothes and skin slightly, but he kept at it, he also pocketed some of the lesser components he pulled, hoping to also salvage what he could from the other robotics once events had died down.

Aisha called out to the others, "But hold! What of truth? What of diplomacy? What of compassion? Can we not meet all of our interests in a way that benefits the most people mutually?" It seemed, however, that those words were lost on them, as the Meltsanders were set on their ways. Aisha was planning to change that soon enough, but currently she didn't have much power. Nobody was on her side yet, after all.

Well, that wasn't entirely true. The enchanted woman, the Mir, appeared to be cooperative with Aisha's intentions. How ironic, Aisha thought, that somebody who in her eyes represented ignorance and false solution was seemingly the only one in this situation who had the compassion to assist the masses in a practical way. Nonetheless, even the misguided were capable of doing good.

"Good Mir," Aisha pleaded, "I am wholly thankful for your support, but, in order to accomplish salvation, I humbly ask for your assistance. Alone, even one who has achieved true Change loses power in the face of the opposing masses. To better oneself, they need the support of their peers and their community, and as of the moment, it appears I only have you. However, I know that your power is great, for there is no power greater than that of apostles like ourselves, the heralds of ideas. So, I ask of you, will you lend me your power to win over the trust of the masses for the sake of doing what is just?" And, as was typical for her, Aisha bowed in honesty.

Xaverius and Dustin seemed to have the destruction of the machine under control, at least, Elise hoped that they'd begun to destroy it in time. While the two cut and tore wires while smashing crystals she took the chance to grab a long length of frayed wire from one of the fallen automatons and raced to stop Rowlen as she tried to slip away in the confusion. "You really don't get it do you?" She quipped, throwing the wire over his head and shoulders and pulling him to the floor. "I understand life here got tough, but why'd you'd ever think this was the answer is beyond me." She shook her head as she knotted the wire around his middle and arms before going to work tying his feet and hands. "Maybe we're overstepping our bounds but I won't stand by and let you do this." She knelt down before him and flash him a sad smile, "I can tell you're hurting, and you don't know what to do about it but I can tell you that this," she gestured to the sparking remains of the machine he'd made, "is not the answer. This won't help your people get better, it won't bring a cure. All it is, is a death wish for Aklar, assisted suicide." She lowered her gaze, thinking about the Change, the possibility of which lead them to Aklar in the first place. "We, we may be able to help you Rowlen but you have to help us first."

Mirova rose an eyebrow at Aisha. "Okay... I'll help you," The Mir nodded, grabbing Aisha's hand. "But... you're gonna have to learn to... not lie, but embellish the truth. Mirova glanced to Musa, who mentioned the danger to the others. At her words another bang was heard from above.

"Fine, you two," Slathe said, pointing to Mirova and Aisha. "Go tell the masses the truth." Slathe turned to his men, Meltsand Commander Hanmar, Boh, and Musa who stood with weapons drawn. "The rest of us will end this fight."

Mirova nodded, grabbing Aisha tightly and dragging her toward the surface lift whilst Slathe and the others ran toward the sounds of battle. "Okay," The Mir muttered, quickly adjusting her hood as she pulled Aisha into the lift. "Alright," The albino whispered, her hands moving across the forged metal of the lift controls delicately. "How do you... make this-" Mirova pushed a lever. "Go." She smiled as it began to rise the two to the surface. Light began to shine down upon them as their lift shook. "Listen, our narrative is simple," Mirova said, turning to Aisha. "We're not here to conquer them - we're here to save them. Through medicine." Mirova smiled viciously. "And maybe a little bit of magic."

"Rowlen!" Slathe's voice called. A spear flew forward above the heads of the assembled group, smashing into the chest of the automaton and sending it staggering backward - the machinery inside catching fire from the damage. Slathe ran in, his men behind him as the rest followed...

"Meltsanders..? You're free, but how did-,?" Rowlen stammered in confusion, unable to move properly as Elise tied up his limbs in wire.

"Er..." Uluru began, looking at the Meltsanders who had begun pouring into the room. "You see, this was always a ploy. One that I'm not as reluctant to be a part of as I was earlier, but all the same...you've been deceived, Rowlen," Uluru stated, giving the madman a look of pity, but not exactly empathy.

"Also, your guard was stricken with foul pestilence and died!" Sulfurious added unhelpfully.

"No...no..." Rowlen began, violently attempting to struggle himself out of the wires. "I can't see it end like this. I can't see my people end like this," he sobbed. "Broken and riddled with disease! I own't let you take any more of my people away from me, HANMAR!" he screeched as he saw the Meltsander's leader, appear in the room with her people. "Not one more..."

"Funny that," The Meltsander Commander Hanmar growled as she entered the room, pushing past Slathe and the rest to make her way toward Rowlen, "Because it wasn't me or my daughter or the Meltsanders who killed your son..."

Hanmar stared Rowlen down, his sad, pitiful face only making the Commander shake her head. It had been so long ago after all, and while the woman hated his guts for everything he had done she couldn't help but soften slightly. Eventually she whispered, so close to his face that he could feel her breath, driving perhaps the worst truth of all into Rowlen's diseased brain, "It was you."

Bohdana swallowed as she watched the scene, almost dwarfed by the Meltsanders around her. The young girl looked up to them - yes, they were brutish and brash and perhaps a little barbaric - but they were survivors. They were desert people.

She slid silently through the crowd toward Uluru and the others, "Are you guys okay?"

Musa had stood with her back to Aisha, Mirova, and even Slathe and his men. Her skin was crawling and her fingers were twitching on her glass shaft. At every rumble, her eyes had quickly flickered over to watch sand spill from the ceiling above. She'd even bounced on her toes a little to show her discomfort and impatience. Our companions are in trouble and they want to appeal to these people? Give them a loose plan and gilded assumptions? She had frowned irritatedly. She did not dismiss the good of their actions but the Aklar people had gone this long being sick and dying. They could last another hour or two while the Questers assembled themselves and joined all of their minds to figure out the plan.

But finally Slathe was apparently feeling just as impatient as she, for he took the reins and sent the two women on their way. When they all began moving she quickly galloped beside him to their destination.

Now she was cautiously stepping around broken crystals and wires that wiggled and jumped with the electricity still cracking through them, like blood through veins. Her eyes were narrowed and her golden irises stood out in the shadow of the now destroyed room. After peeling her eyes away from the fallen masses of metal made to look like mishapen men, she tipped her head and eyed the construct that seemed to have been savagely destroyed. The thing unsettled her and made her look from a distance while flexing her hand on her glass pole. Whatever it was, she had a feeling that whatever it was doing and whoever destroyed it as vehemently as they did, had something to do with the rumbling in the halls. Glancing back at the metal men she figured the fight with them must not have been so quiet either. Then finally she went over to the gathered group "What happened here?" She asked after the stocky, bearded man waddled off the to contraption, his fingers twitching.

"Okay? Been better..." Uluru admitted, looking the mechanical rubble that lay before him. "I'm not sure you'll need an army to topple this regime..." he looked at the pathetic state of the Aklar's leader. "This clan was damaged from the inside put long before we got here...." Uluru nodded at the machine in ruins. "He said he had a mechanism...one that could spread earthquakes throughout the Qafar. He planned to target your camp and Dol-Duna."

"HOW DARE YOU, HANMAR!" Rowlen screeched, tears streaming down his face. "How dare you place that blame upon me. The blame of the disease your wretched girl spread! A disease we could fine no cure to! A waste in life and in death!"

Uluru glanced from Rowlen to Hanmar and began to step forward in case the Meltsander commander flew into a rage.

Elise threw herself between the two clan leaders, "Alright, that's enough!" She shook her head, "Neither of you is actually trying to solve this issue! You'd rather just murder each other than admit you are both hurting, you both lost someone dear to you," She paused trying to figure out what to do, "ask yourselves, would your children want this? Would they want their deaths to be the reason for the death of so many people?" She turned to Hanmar, trying to look the woman in the eye, "I know he stole her away from you, and I can't imagine your pain, but does it have to be like this?" She then looked to Rowlen, "You lost your son to a terrible disease, and I'm sorry that it is now plaguing your people, but killing innocents won't solve your problem or help your people. Also, if Hanmar's daughter was truly the host, why aren't the other Meltsanders sick?" She sighed, "Murder is never the answer, you have to understand what is best for your people." She looked at the group she'd been traveling with. Their various backgrounds had meshed under a common goal, and she smiled. "We are trying to save the world, and we could use all the help we can get, why not work towards a solution rather than destruction?"

Dustin had finally caught his breath and made his way over to stand beside Musa. "Uluru speaks truth. Rowlen planned to topple the surrounding clans and the rest of Qafar through earthquakes produced by that machine," he nodded to where Xaverius stood. "Which Xaverius and I kindly dispatched."

The Kassellander couldn't help but marvel at Elise's bravery, her moral upstanding. Miles upon miles of sand between her and home. She didn't even know what her destination was. She simply just traveled, much like Xaverius, around the Qafar. How old was she? Sixteen, Dustin recalled. Somewhere around there. So young, he thought. Yet filled so much wisdom. The world could learn a thing or two from a girl of her stature.

After collecting a good amount of loot, he returned to Dustin and the others. "So, now what do we do? I have a ton of robo parts and some ideas on what to spend them on."
