When a boy or girl turns ten years old, he is eligible to receive a Pokemon License from the Pokemon League. He/she can then choose a beginning Pokemon of their choice-Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, and sometimes Pikachu. This trainer can then instruct their Pokemon in practice battles and techniques, keeping in mind that a Pokemon can only know four techniques at one time. A trainer can carry six Pokemon around with him/her in Pokeballs and have one hanging around that is out of a Pokeball for a grand total of seven, with every other captured Pokemon being kept in a secure computer system. When a Pokemon trainer feels they are ready, they can challenge other trainers and Gym Masters to earn badges, which will help other Pokemon listen to that trainer. Those who are truly gifted can even challenge the Elite Four to be accepted into the Pokemon League as a Pokemon Master.

But all of that can be done in time. Many trainers spend their whole lives finding and training all kinds of Pokemon, making lifelong friends and growing in knowledge and wisdom. Every trainer carries a Pokedex to give them the latest updates on any Pokemon they might encounter. But, I'm sure by now you're just bursting to start your adventure. So, head on down to Professor Oak's lab, choose your first Pokemon, and begin your journey to catch 'em all!
