Once Upon a Time

An ancient war that preceeds the lifespan of modern times. One of darkness and light, of divinity and sacred freedom. Prometheus, the Titan that gifted humans fire with aim to have the Goddess ascend to rule over the pigs that clearly are unable to rule for themselves. These humans were given fire and instead of creating something greater, they kill each other meaninglessly. What better to do then to summon a Goddess to fix the wrongs of humanity and set the world on the rightful path yet again?

But at what cost?

A Prophecy, with a certain year. A Prophecy, passed down by an ancient family for generations before being handed to its current bearer through sheer chance. Whether to ascend the Goddess or lock her away for eternity, one must possess the Prophecy.

The Reign of Ira Shoku

A spawn of Prometheus, Ira Shoku, now leads Japan with his mighty fist. He controls all as the country's Emperor, and his goal seems to be the destruction of all that is light. A betrayer of Prometheus, his dream of once wishing to save the girl destined to be the Goddess has since been twisted by the darkness of his ambitions. With the cursed Hemond children as his right and left hands, and what's left of his faction of Prometheus serving his mighty Empire, Shoku destroys for the sake of destruction, searching for a meaning he no longer remembers.

It all seemed over. He had the Girl of Destiny under his thumb, he had the prophecy waiting to be deciphered, and the resistance against his power - Hime's Freedom Fighters, his exwife's HIVE, and the scattered gangs of what used to be Tsukasa's Yakuza, all too busy squabbling amongst each other to mount a real rebellion against him. But in a single instant, the tides turned. His own daughter vowed to free both the Hemonds and the Prophecy - but despite being caught yet and her having her plans foiled, the book of destiny has gone missing and it was anyone's guess as to who may possess it now.

His plan cannot proceed without it, and with this, a new opening has shown itself. If those who fight for the light wish to change the course of fate, now is the time to act.

The seizures were growing worse everyday, the baby star hardly awake anymore. Her throat was sore from constantly having a tube shoved down it and she only awoke to take small sips of water and a few bites of pudding when prompted from her nurse. Leo wasn't sure how much longer Yui was going to last before there was brain damage. He could see the consequences already, pondering over the results of the MRI and CT scans, but everything came back clear. The spinal tap was negative for bacterial meningitis as well, which left that off of the table. He used antibiotics to treat it anyhow, hoping that if it was an infection, it would stop it. Hardly anyone came to visit, they were so busy tending to the crisis, but it wasn't as though Yui was awake to greet them. There was always a nurse at her side, washing her ena, changing her diapers, or rearranging the blanket, a team no longer responding whenever there was a seizure. Their method for now was riding it out, unless it was the big one at seven, which happened routinely.

Today, when Yui awoke to take a drink of water, there was a surprise waiting for her. "Mizu," she smiled sleepily, her hand shaking as she reached out for her. Mizu lifted Yui out of bed, carrying the child to the elevator. Yui wasn't supposed to leave the floor, where were they going? "Mizu, I'm going to-" as though on cue, it began, Yui choking, her body convulsing strangely. When it was over, Yui lay her head against Mizu's chest, hopelessly lost. "Who are we?" She asked, meaning to inquire about where they were, not who they were. These parts of the hospital were not familiar to the child, the strange glowing egg behind the glass making her heart cry out. Even now, Yui could tell what Mizuki's intentions were, but she could not bring her mouth closed to form the words to stop her.

Instead, like a cub from the lion king, Yui was held out, her tummy touching the egg. The two of them collapsed, Yui seizing almost instantly. She could hear, a screaming in her ears that grew softer, clearer, it went from a harsh grating to a pleasant lullaby. Yui rose to her feet in the field of pink dust, mind sharper then it had been in days. "What is this place?" She walked on her own two feet, following behind Mizuki to see where the path would take them. "It's creepy," the child confessed with a shiver, an unsettling feeling tugging at the base of her spine. "Luna... Ren... I can feel them," they were close, but where? What was all of this pink dust?

Why was Luna an egg? Why had they been taken to this place?

Mizuki grinned uncertainly as Yui seemed to snap back to attention just like that. Wherever this was, Yui was here, she was back. Was it all cured? Probably not in the - real world? Was this one real? Was the other one real? Whatever it was, it was nigh impossible to know for sure. "Welcome back. I knew this would work! I could feel it in my gut!" Okay, maybe using your gut feeling was not always the best idea, but hey! She did her best, didn't she, and Yui was already looking more lively! Gambling Queen reigns again! "I don't know. Try not to pay attention to it too much, but you can hear it, can't you?" The lullaby overlaying everything, like a video game with music on the overworld playing on repeat forever and always.

In the lullaby Luna's voice was clearly the strongest, but still, the chorus of almost five hundred voices together was always there. Ronan, Ren, Medicus and Noise, they could all be faintly heard in the chaos of voices screeching at them. "Someone spoke to me, they called this Paradise?" All this pink dust, it didn't look good. It probably was a better idea to not let Yui touch it, so Mizu held the Baby Star up off of the ground where she would be safe. "But then the voice disconnected, maybe something pushed it out." Something - she could remember it more clearly now. Someone was trying to... interface with her, get into her brain and access her mind. But then it was kicked as if you turned the Wi-Fi off, or tore out a cable. "Well, only one thing to do. You're the Star, Yui. Think you can lead me to where Luna is, first?"

That was when letters appeared in her mind and Mizuki almost screamed for a second there. The letters, they burned into her vision. Was it happening to Yui, too, or was she immune to all of this? [ Welcome to Paradise. Humanity's Evolution has begun.] Evolution? Into what? Mizuki didn't know what was happening, but she didn't like it either. The two girls followed it, they could see some sort of giant cloud shaped mountains all over the place, and the field of pink dust seemed to stretch on for eternity until suddenly the path turned up like the side of a square, inverting. Mizu shrugged and continued walking, her body automatically orienting so that she was walking up sideways. Up above, the sky was transforming like a prism of endless reflections, a broken mirror screaming down at them from the sky.

Then more people fell down from the sky, new victims of the lullaby were coming in. They fell, then woke up robotically, covered in pink dust. One by one they opened their eyes, staring like drones. What was happening? "Ah, Paradise." One of them said. No - no, they all said it, all at once. "Thank you, Resplendia, our minds are one." Mizu quickly sprinted away from there, not wanting to be caught. She had a feeling it would be a bad idea. "Hive mind, I think." She whispered to her fellow companion in this strange alien land. "Whatever's happening, we gotta stop it. So, um, lead the way?"

Able to think clearly for the first time in who knows how long, Yui allowed herself to be carried by Mizuki, the baby star glancing around to familiarize herself with the territory. This threat was something out of the box, an unknown that could take them over as soon as it realized they were outsiders. Yui swallowed hard as Mizuki began to stalk up the side of a mountain, seeming to stick in place. "Luna, she's close, I can-" the child was cut off by an abrupt sound like falling. She turned, eyes widening when she saw the group of people rising, welcoming themselves to paradise. "Mizu, run!" Yui hissed, her big sister not needing to be told twice. The two of them booked it, Mizu wanting to know where Luna was. "That way!" Yui pointed, a path seeming to wind down from the pink mountains. Luna and Ren were together, or at least, close by, that much she could tell. Perhaps they had sought one another when coming to this world? And Ronan? What had happened to him?

Escaping the group of newcomers to this realm, Mizuki and Yui kept on walking, walking until the fields of pink dust eventually gave way to what looked like a pit of emptiness. "Well, here goes nothing." Mizuki took a step and then she found she was able to walk, she could walk on the sky, the kaleidoscope sky reaching out to them, screaming to them in some ancient that could not be understood by mere humans. Everything was being reflected by itself in this sky, it was dizzying and yet that was where the path Yui pointed was leading. "I can't see the pink dust anymore." Just an endless walking atop the refracting shards that seemed to be sky. They could even see themselves reflected to infinity. Twisting, turning, everything whirling, and yet they had no choice but to walk the sky.

"The dust is gone, Yui. Mizuki set her down on what seemed to be safe to walk on right at her side, still holding the baby star's hand. "I imagine you miss being able to walk on your own. Here, let's enjoy it!" Once again they were following Yui's instructions to find Luna, find Ren, and maybe find a way out of this or at least to figure out what was going on. Despite the sky refracting endlessly above and around them, the part they could walk on glowed with transparent light blue hexagons with every step they took. And so they continued to walk, where was Luna? Were was Ren? Stil, they continued to crest the upwards climb to the top of the broken sky. "Agh!" Another burning in her mind, something was being transmitted at them both. At first it appeared like a jumble of strange symbols and letters, but then it rearranged itself in her mind into letters.

[Resplendia]

A series of numbers flashed through her mind in seconds, so fast that she could hardly even notice it was there. Yet still, her mind translated those numbers into words.

[UPLOAD: Commence]

Mizuki felt it, tugging at her mind, strings trying to pull at her, trying to interface directly into her brain. She fell to all fours, panting, scratching at what seemed to be the glass ground at their feet. She clung to Yui's hand, confused and afraid as another message entered her mind, more ancient hieroglyphics not written by humans like a screeching beeping into her ears, directly into her soul.

[Integrating.]

[A wish to the world a world of emptiness
Resplendia sowing seeds of happiness
granting the wishes, each seed and a person
Resplendia sees the children and makes seeds with care
'I will sing a for a thousand days
and make seeds to grant your wishes
and bring joy to humanity'
a hope a song a wish for happiness
a warm sunlight, crafting the seeds of happiness
beautiful birds see the seeds
and thus the first night came]

As Mizuki whimpered on all fours, unable to move as the words screamed across her mind, a sight unveiled itself before them. Luna and Ren, both afloat, asleep, still as statues, arms and legs outstretched, one wings flared out, one hand each touching the other's. A scream into her mind.

[seeds full of hope crafted one by one for the people
Resplendia looks on and fills them with hopes
silk gown fragrance clock chiming hope
the beautiful birds see the seeds
and thus the second night came]

[Her beautiful singing surrounds the spirits
the seeds sown to grant the wishes
gazing at the dusk she makes the seeds
the light of joy and wonder and love
the beautiful birds see the seeds
the beautiful birds devour the seeds
and thus the third night came]

Three voices singing at once into their minds. Luna's, Ren's, and a third one completely unknown.

[I am Resplendia.

The Lost Star.

The Creator of the Earth Layer.

We will now save humanity.]

Yui walked on her own stop the glass sky, wind fluttering through her hair, ruffling her feathers, gentle, like an old soul. She could sense it all around her, a sort of peaceful sleep that pulled towards them, attempting to enter their minds. "A little bit farther," Yui said, hoping her heart to be true. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath in, and continued to walk towards the endless dawn, the reflection below them hazy, as though it were a looking pond that waved the more they skipped rocks across it. "Something isn't right," Yui frowned, feeling a niggling in the back of her mind. What was it? It made her feel uneasy.

Mizuki suddenly began to scream, thrashing, clawing at the ground as though she were trying to escape. What was going on? What was happening to Mizuki? It only made sense that Yui couldn't hear it, after all. She wasn't human. She would not be able to join the humans in their paradise of glass skies and pink sands. Yui held onto Mizuki's hand, hoping that her grip was comforting. "Do you hear something Mizuki?" Yui frowned, wondering what was happening. She attempted to miracle a pair of earplugs for Mizuki, but was uncertain if they would help considering whatever it was seemed to be taking place within the mind. Why? Why couldn't Yui hear it? She turned, her eyes widening when she caught sight of Ren and Luna. "Ren! Lulu!" Yui screamed, not letting go of Mizuki's hand. She ran forward, attempting to reach them.

At last Yui could hear it, their voices transporting directly into her mind. "We have to wake them Mizuki," Yui said in terror, knowing that whatever this Resplendia was, it was scary and quite powerful. "Stop it!" Yui screamed. After all, it was her job to save humanity. "This isn't saving them! You're just hurting everyone!" She squeezed Mizuki's hand comfortingly, hoping that Mizuki could still feel it. "Don't let it get to you." She leaned Mizuki against her, managing to take a step forward. "Hang on guys, I'm coming for you," the ground beneath her opened up. Yui wobbled, pushing Mizuki back towards safety as she fell, attempting to make her wings grow to their full span.

"Luna! Ren!" Yui screamed, hoping to snap them out of their reverie. Yui winced, a screaming filled her ears, the words becoming softer until they formed sentences.

[Error.

Foreign entity detected.]

Yui reached towards the sky, the wind stinging her eyes. Tears traveled upwards as she fell down, hitting the ground with a terrible sound. A mouth emerged from the sea of pink dust, grabbing Yui's legs in its jowls. "No," Yui whimpered, terrified. It dragged her towards the gaping hole in the ground, pulling her down into the darkness. "Save them!" Yui screamed as the inky blackness filled her mouth, her eyes, choking her. The seizures, was this why they wouldn't stop? She was an error in the program, the more it tried to drag her in, the worse the seizures became. Chomp! It crunched through her legs, releasing her at last. Yui screamed in pain, the darkness ar last giving way to light.

Diamonds stuck up from every angle of the cavern, Yui laying in a basket, her legs detached. They sparkled in the light, shards of star dust reflecting in the glow that pulsated all around her. "I can do this," Yui breathed. This wasn't real, her body was still whole. If she lost her legs, too much of her memory would be gone. If she lost her legs, she wouldn't be able to save everyone.

[with these seeds the world will bloom beautifully once more
oh hope... love for these people who need these seeds
the gift of prosperity and desire, Resplendia gives all
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the fourth night came

these seeds were supposed to bring peace
that was the wish in Resplendia's heart
the seeds to grant wishes were made with happiness
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the fifth night came

in the peaceful times Resplendia wakes and crafts the seeds
singing with a voice to bring peace to the world
Resplendia's children who desire the seeds await await
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the tenth night came

there is no beauty in these people one star says
Resplendia believes in the beauty of these people
and thus with a painful heart, Resplendia makes more seeds
all to fulfill the dream of this ancient world awash with beauty
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the twentieth night came

the seeds to sow happiness brew chaos
as there is only one seed crafted per day
they fight over the seeds and more misery is born to this land
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the thirtieth night came

behind Resplendia's ears the question mutters
are those Resplendia loves filled with evil
still the Star hopes and continues to sing her seeds to the world
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the fortieth night came

the dark voices echo in the deep
demanding more seeds be made for their consumption
Resplendia only wanted to see these people smile
the beautiful birds saw the seeds
the beautiful birds devoured the seeds
and thus the fiftieth night came

is it ever that love is boundless
oh, the evil spirits continue to take and take
the seeds of happiness only brought ruin to what was once beauty
the tainted birds fought over the seeds
oh hundred eyed demon of madness, bring this all to an end
and thus the hundredth night came

ever fighting birds know nothing of light and peace
but Resplendia's mercy will come forth
the dark seeds of evil and the tainted birds who scream for them
Resplendia knew only the mercy of darkness
no more song to be sung
daybreak never came again
and thus the thousandth night came

Resplendia doesnt want to sing seeds to grant wishes anymore
Resplendia doesnt want to curse the beautiful birds to this fate
let yourselves be brought to this land of revelation
let yourselves come to the paradise of peace
all will be one and the birds will be saved
Resplendia knows now how to grant the wish of happiness]

And so Mizuki screamed, no longer in range of Yui's divine protection from the lullaby. It sunk into her mind and tore at it, ripping her apart and tearing her open. A pink glow brewed and she could feel it reaching in, finding the soul. Play with us. We beckoned, inviting the new one to the fold. Yui was gone and Mizuki was vulnerable and she could no longer fight against the lullaby's promise. "Yui, save us all!" She screamed as she knew the last of her will was taken away, eyes going blank.

[UPLOAD: Complete.

All will be one and there will be Peace.]

On the mountains of pink dust, someone opened her eyes. Once she was a dreamweaver but she could feel the endless calm as thousands of other minds mixed in together with hers. "Resplendia." Ally whispered with a smile that wasn't hers. "Thank you for saving us." She stood up in time with all the others, the new batch walking the sky towards Paradise. "All will be one."

Yui lined her legs up at the edges, willing them together. She closed her eyes, willing them to fix themselves. With a click! her legs seemed to snap back on. Yui breathed a sigh of relief, rolling out of the basket and onto the floor. The cavern was large, beautifully appointed, with crystals that pulsated softly as they illuminated the cavern. "Hello!" Yui called, her voice echoing softly. To the left was a pond that reflected the light, to the right, was what appeared to be a bedroom. "Are you the one they call Resplendia!"

The Star of Happiness looked at the Baby Star enter xis domain. It was nigh impossible to describe the Lost Star's appearance but then it shifted and seemed to have the image any average village maiden girl. Except of course, her lips were sown shut by a golden threat, her eyes were melted shut, her wings blackened and torn off. [Identified.

I am Resplendia.

My burden was given to humanity in the form of my Light after I abandoned them.

Child, what do you ask of me?]

There was something mystical yet tragic about the figure, but it was hard to place.

Yui could hear a voice in her mind, echoing inside of her brain the same way Damian did when he tried to communicate. "You need to stop this," Yui stepped forward, wondering if this was what she had looked like when Hazuki and Fumino had plucked out her eyes and had seen her lips shut. "The humans aren't happy, they want to be free to live as they are." Yui wasn't afraid, this star had clearly fallen from grace, it was time for Resplendia to return to the Abyss.

Resplendia's wing twitched as if it wanted to be called back to its owner. However xe would not bow. This Baby Star knew not about humanity, knew not about all the squandered wishes. What did a few years of suffering mean compared to a thousand failed wishes, and thousands of years more of watching? [Do you know the evil of humans? The tainted cruelties they all face?] The figure was unmoving, unconvinced. [ I granted them wishes and dreams and then they used those wishes to hurt others. They wanted a life without suffering, without work, without effort. They wanted it all to be granted to them.

Free Will was my mistake when creating the humans.

I will fix this mistake and create Paradise.]
Then the stitched mouth seemed to curve upwards in an invitation. [I can make you human. I can take back the light which was once mine. Without the Light Seed, I cannot become a Star again.] It was one of Yui's biggest wishes all her life, and Resplendia's offer for a thousandfirst seed of happiness.

Yui was no stranger to suffering. Her entire life had been made up of the cruelties of humans, but it also held plenty of memories that contained the beauty and wonderment of earth. "I do know," Yui replied, her hands balled into fists. The words of Mizuki echoed in her mind, to save them all. "The humans are like Thanos," Yui said, hoping Resplendia would remember the star that had fallen. "They were tempted by ambition, but they never wanted to hurt others, they just wanted to create, to be free." Yui hoped that she could prove that humanity was still plenty good.

"This thing you're making, it isn't paradise! It's a nightmare! Part of the beauty of living is having the free will to make decisions! Look at all the good it's done!" Humans had cured diseases, they had created beautiful buildings, they lived in harmony with animals and planted gardens that blossomed, even in the harsh winter. "You can't have light without darkness, or a rainbow without rain!" Could Resplendia see the point Yui was trying to make?

The child took a step back at the offer. She clutched a hand to her chest, shaking her head. "I dont have the light speed within me anymore." It had blossomed when Yui had reached her true form. No longer a light seed but a flower, a beautiful lotus blossom. "Cirque made me to save the humans, the ones you created, so please, let them live the way they want to!"

[Do you want to see?]

A Stem extended from where a wing should be, reaching for Yui, reaching for her eye to touch. Images, scenes, history transplanted into the child's mind. Years, years of singing, of hopes and dreams and wishes for something. Her memories went into the child, playing directly into her mind as if it was overtaking her, stealing away her senses. The Temple the humans built for her, once it was beautiful but over time it became a place of greed, and every wish was turned, twisted into something evil.

[A song to create crops.]

[A song to heal wounds and bring back hope.]

[A song to cure the pains of time.]

[A song to end wars.]

And every time, the humans would ruin it. They would burn the crops of other villages, they would hurt and kill other humans, steal away their futures, wage war once their own ended. So much suffering over the thousand years, so much disappointment as the humans were never able to rise above their station. What would the Baby Star say now? Would a few fancy buildings make up for all this?

Yui didn't want it to touch her, it felt volatile as it touched her eye, depicting the history of humanity, something that the child was very much aware of. Well, aside from the part with Resplendia. Yui tugged the stem out, screaming in pain. It felt as though her eye was going to be ripped out of its socket. Luckily, it stayed inside, the stem falling to the ground. The child panted, sinking to her knees. "Don't.... ever... don't ever do that again." She felt sick, a strange feeling in her chest.

"Every species has suffering," Yui rose to her feet. "Even the stars had war and unrest. Remember? The First People, it was because of the stars that they suffered." Yui shook her head, "what you're doing isn't helping them. It's just enslaving them! They can never be happy like this, not truly!" It was Yui's job to save humanity. What mind of savior would she be if she stopped here? "You took my friends, so many families have been separated. You can feel it can't you? Humanity crying out. Their children, mothers, fathers, they're all being torn apart!"

Resplendia smiled as much as one could smile with a mouth ruined like that. [i][I am the Creator. I just wanted them to be happy. I wanted to grant their wishes forever.]
The baby star knew nothing, how could she know anything? [I created them. All I wanted was to save them and show the Stars that it was not a mistake to create life.] Did the Baby Star not know this place? Did the Baby Star not understand what all this meant? Removing the Stem, the Lost Star seemed to recoil as if it were in pain. [This is Paradise. There will be no more loneliness, no more suffering. All will be as one, all will be connected. All of humanity will come into my arms and I will give them peace.]

"The stars don't think it was a mistake! That's why Cirque made me, so I could help save them!" Yui's little wings fluttered defensively. She had made so much progress too, she was going to become an idol to continue spreading light and hope in the hearts of all those she encountered. "Parents shouldn't spoil their children, it'll just make them rotten." Yui shook her head, "aren't you the same? A parent who just wants to spoil their children? In a way, isn't this a result of your interference?" What did Resplendia think would happen if things continued this way? "This place isn't a paradise, it's a nightmare. History is going to repeat itself."

The Lost Star did not want to have hope. The Lost Star did not want to have faith in humanity again. One thousand failures, why would anything else be any different? [So if my children were to kill one another, I let it happen? Is that would a good human parent does for their children?] The blackened burned wings continued to twitch helplessly. Were the feathers beckoning to Yui? Did they want to come back to the Star that had given up on what it was born to create? [Cirque created Resplendia to give happiness. What good am I if all my seeds do is cause destruction?] The Stems continued to protrude and withdraw, looking almost sickly and gross as it did so. Is this what happens when a Star gives up and loses all hope?

Was there a risk Resplendia could become a Dark Star, given enough time?

[Is it not good for all humans to be connected? Ants do it, bees do it. Even some alien species off of this planet are hive minds, all inividuals working together in harmony for a common good. Why would that be a nightmare?] The Star was very clearly in despair, and had been mourning all these years. [If all humans could understand each other, how is that not happiness?]

"No, a good parent scolds their child. A good parent teaches them to be better next time, to not take up arms but hold hands." Yui had never had a parental figure in her life, everytime she had tried to be part of a family, her parental figure perished. "Instead, you turned a blind eye. You didn't teach them that it was wrong, you didn't punish them for being naughty. You didn't tell them to try harder to be better." Yui shook her head, she looked at Resplendia and realized that there was something the star had not seen in a very long time. Kindness. Yui stepped forward, navigating around the stems. She took hold of the stars hands in her own. They felt delicate, weary with age. "Your seeds did not cause destruction. You saw it when your stem connected with me, didn't you? Happiness, my happiness. The light that's being spread, how hard we're trying to bring goodness to the world."

"The past is behind us, we're learning this time. We're taking our future into our own hands, we're building a better future for all of humanity." Yui released Resplendia's hands. She stepped forward, wrapping her arms around the star in a hug. "It's been a long time since anyone's shown you kindness." Yui said quietly, "you've been all alone this entire time, haven't you?" Yui smiled gently, this was her purpose, to represent humanity. "Humans aren't bugs, you can't control them, not forever. One of them will fight back, then many of them. They won't be happy, not truly. Come with me to the earth you've created, let me show how beautiful earth really is."

But Resplendia could not leave because while she could watch, she could never leave this place. Not without her light, but it no longer belonged to her now. Xe shifted xis body to reveal how the Stems connected xim to this strange mental land. For someone like the Star of Happiness, there was no kindness to be given. [I cannot leave. This place is the subconscious of all of humanity. If I am not connected, I will die as there is no light left within me.] Xe shook xis head, seeming to withdraw. Less than some big scary enemy, xis just appeared to be a broken, sad soul. [If you truly believe you can lead humans to a happier solution than Paradise, you are willing to try. I tried for a thousand years, so you can try for that long as well before I try this again. It is only fair.]

There was a strange sound as the lullaby stopped it's ringing.

[Do you know? Once you fully mature, Cirque intended to give you my old title. You will be the Star of Happiness and replace me. Cirque believes in you, even if no one has faith in humans any longer.] But of course, because in the end, Resplendia was not able to give the humans what they needed, in the end.

Yui contemplated this predicament. "I know," she released Resplendia from the hug and stepped back. "You can have some of my light! I have a lot of it, so you can borrow some until you make a decision." Yui smiled cutely, "one of my abilities is to create miracles, kind of like your wishes. I can transfer light to and from bodies too. Here, I'm going to give you a very special light bearing mark." Yui placed her hand against Resplendia's stomach, feeling the light within her. She willed it to rise to the surface, transferring a modest amount into Resplendia's own body. "There, you're own light bearing mark! You're probably going to have to choose a gender too." The light bearing mark looked like a bow pulled taught with an arrow that had a star for a tip. "There, now you can leave this cave."

Yui took Resplendia's hand once more. "You put all this work into a world you probably never got to step foot on." She giggled, "now you'll finally get to see just how great humanity can be."

Resplendia did not know what to do. The Lost Star's legs did not work, xis's body was shrunken and frail, hardly more than a broken and traumatized child. However, free from the Stems latching xim to the Subconscious world that this was. Created by Resplendia, this place was meant to be Paradise. But what was it now? Xe still believed the Paradise solution, but xe was willing to give this Baby Star who had inherited the light that had once come from xis's resplendious shine that once brimmed with love and hope and dreams. One chance, one thousand years to bring happiness to humanity. So Resplendia followed Yui out of the cavern that had been xis's home for the past millenia. [ Then let us go and show me.]

The lullaby had ended, the tale of her pains and struggles for all these years that entranced the souls she had brought over was silenced as suddenly as it had begun. Still, Luna and Ren remained trapped up in the sky in their forced sleep as sigils to watch over the Paradise. [I hope you do not regret giving me the light. It will reduce the time you have to live among your loved ones.] By giving her light it would hasten the tragedy, and if Yui ran out she would ascend to the new Star of Happiness, tasked with granting the same emotion Resplendia had suffered for so long trying to grant. Would Yui restore the Lost Star's belief in humanity's light and beauty? Once, against everyone's words Resplendia had faith, and that faith was turned into misery. Were things now different?

"It's the Goddess!" Someone cried, it looked like a high school girl in her uniform. "Goddess Yui, what are you doing here? Why are we here, what is this place?" The humans, they did not know what to do, they did not know why they were here atop the kaleidoscope sky. "Aaah!" Another human screamed, pointing behind Yui. "What is that monster?" Resplendia was quiet, knowing it had been foolish to hope for anything different. "You tried to meld our minds together! You monster!" The broke pieces of the sky, they turned it into glass shards, they attacked, stabbing, cutting, tearing her to bits. Not the first time this had happened either. "Make more Seeds! Sing more songs! Grant more wishes!" They once cried as they stabbed her and burned her alive. "You said you would make us happy so why are we sad?"

"Kill her!" The humans screamed, holding her up, tearing at the stitches that burned their fingers as they touched. They grabbed her and threw her on the ground. "Set us free! Stop hurting the Goddess, she has suffered enough!" Love - once, the humans loved her. But then they took the seeds for granted and they kept wanting more, more than xe could give. [I told you.] Resplendia sang into Yui's mind as she was beaten again and again just like all those times ago. [This strife is all they know. In the end, they all will do this.] Deciding being female would suit xim - no, her better, Resplendia allowed the punishment to continue.

"It's okay, things are going to be alright now," Yui tried to assure the humans, they were confused, they were afraid and rightly so. Yui had not expected them to attack Resplendia, she cried out, shielding the star with her own body. "Stop it! Stop!" Yui yelled, throwing her arms out as she began to glow. "Resplendia is not your enemy!" At last they seemed to listen. Yui glanced up above her, where Luna and Ren still floated, hands clasped together in their slumber. "Resplendia brought you all here believing that humans were no good. She created earth and saw your tragedies and heard your hearts cry out. She built this place believing that it could provide a better future." Yui could see the intentions that Resplendia had put into this place, as strange as it was.

"I too want to bring peace and happiness back to our earth, but I don't think this is the way. We need to show Resplendia the kindness of humanity, the beauty of the world that we live in." Yui had faith that everyone here could spread this message. If not for the right reasons, then at least for the fear of falling into the strange slumber once more. "Please, prove her wrong, show her that humans do not need to be asleep to live in harmony!" Yui turned to Resplendia, kneeling down to help brush her off. "If you want to go home, you have to work together. Neighbors, strangers, siblings, spouses, you all need to have courage and kindness."

Yui was not going to fail, not here when she needed to prove herself. If she couldn't rally five hundred or so people to work together and live in harmony, then how could she ever hope to prove herself to this star? While the other stars languidly went about their days, Resplendia had been lost, crying, wishing she could bring happiness to the humans she so loved. No doubt Cirque had searched for her, wanting to bring the lost star home. Was it another regret their creator harbored? Was Resplendia another star they had assumed a casualty of humanity? Perhaps in a way, such a title was apt. No doubt she used to sparkle, her hair gleaming, her eyes shining with innocence. Watching her children tear each other apart had aged her.

"I'm not going to spoil them," Yui promised, "they still have a long way to go if they want to truly be happy." Yes, happiness did not happen overnight. Resplendia had given her a thousand years, perhaps reduced by now, but Yui did not need to live for another millennia anyhow. She would accomplish her goal soon, she would fight to bring peace and love to Japan and then, the world. Not as a figurehead or something to be revered and feared, but as someone who knew what it was like to fight and suffer. Someone who she herself only wanted the best possible outcome.

|| Weight of the World || Nier: Automata ||

Yui was yelling, making the humans stop, they revered their Goddess. It was just like before - the humans latch onto someone that they beleive could save them from their hard times. They saw Yui as the way out of here, but once they no longer needed help they would throw her aside until the next time she was needed. It was a cycle of use, that was all the humans ever had. [It is useless, Baby Star.] But then the humans seemed to pause for a moment as Resplendia was about to give up again. "We just wanted to help you, Goddess." One girl cried, going up to hug the little mermaid. "You're always saving us and we want to help save you." Her eyes were filled with a mixture of love, of adoration, of affection.

And it was the same for almost everyone here. They were attacking the strange looking stitched up monster for the sake of helping Yui win. "So this isn't an enemy? But she trapped us here in this strange world! How is she not an enemy? Look up, look at your Angels!" The man cried, thrusting his arm up in a dramatic motion. [They will not wake.] Resplendia sang into all of their minds, drawing horror and fear as they drew back, terrified of the monster and the strange singing voice. [Your sins are keeping them trapped and asleep, and Paradise was rejected.] There was a sense of hesitation until one man threw a stone at Resplendia. "Shut up! Stop acting better than us! Whatever you are-" The little girl tried to stop him but then he slapped her away, agitated. "We have to fight, Goddess! Let us protect you!" They grabbed Yui's arm, pulling her into them, to safety from the singing nightmare creature.

"What are you doing? Why did you attack that child?" Another man was furious. "She was only trying to-" But it didn't matter now. The mass hysteria was kicking in yet again, the fear of being in this unknown realm as well as being able to still feel the emootions of others as the side effects of Paradise were still not yet gone. This confusion was making matters worse. "Stop being idiots!" Blood tails created a cage around then, Ronan had come, finally free from the intoxicating Paradise that had sucked him in. "You're not listening to Yui at all!" Resplendia was not impressed, however. [Baby Star, I'm afraid if you need outside help to save the humans than it is not valid.] The Lost Star wanted to believe, but just the act of believing hurt her chest, her heart, in ways she had been hurt so many times before. Would Yui, too, become another false hope to further break her heart?

Ronan of course, continued to try to shout, to get the humans to shape up and stop. But they interpreted the blood tails as an attack, caging them in like this, how could they not? "Your Knight's gone rogue, Yui!" One woman screamed, clutching her head. Children huddled together in terror, remembering stories of the Black Reaper and his many brutal kills on the battlefield. "Why is he attacking us? We only wanted to help you, Yui!" Disappointment. Regret. Self loathing. All of that poison was flooding Resplendia. They were already squandering Yui's mercy.

Yui pat the girl's head, attempting to appear as the Goddess they all desired. "Thank you, but Resplendia isn't a monster. She isn't scary. She's a girl who's been hurt a lot," Yui hoped she hadn't offended the star, who had yet to announce their gender. Yui sort of just assumed to call Resplendia a she to put the people at ease. After all, women had always been perceived as a lesser threat. "She's like many of us, afraid, lonely, she just wants someone to hug her and tell her it's going to be alright." Yui was hoping that one of the humans would step up, that they would see the fear in Resplendia's expression and attempt to comfort her. They seemed to have the opposite reaction, believing the girl who had trapped them here to be a monster.

"No, Resplendia is not our enemy!" Yui shook her head, well aware that her angels were above her, asleep. Would they ever wake up? Yui had hope that yes, they would. "Fear is our enemy, when we are afraid of something, it allows doubt and darkness to brew in our hearts. Darkness is the most dangerous element of them all." She attempted to sound sagely despite her small stature. "We need to stand together, to prove that we, as a people, can live in harmony! I know you doubt it, you doubt yourself your neighbor, your brothers and sisters, but now is not the time for that. Now is the time to hold hands together, to hug and old onto the ones you love!" You never knew when they would be gone.

A stone flew over her head, Yui shot a blood needle at it, the rock melting before it could hit and harm anyone. The little girl was slapped away, Yui's arms were grabbed and she was dragged forward, into the group of people. "Wait, stop, don't hurt her!" Yui cried, barely audible over the sea of people. "The more you fight, the worse it's going to get!" Yui tried, hoping that they could hear her. At last she broke free, running back to protect the cave star. A blood cage formed around the humans, Ronan taking center stage, facing a large amount of people and perhaps didn't understand the entire situation before he had acted. He meant well, he really did, but he sometimes acted before he could really think things over. Now would have been one of those times where thinking was useful.

"My knight isn't going rogue," Yui shook her head. "He isn't attacking you, he put you in there so that you could calm down. Think about everything that's happened. How would attacking the only person who can send you all back home help you?" Yui asked, attempting to apply logic the way Luca had taught her. An idea captured her mind, her eyes going wide. Yui took in a deep and began to sing, a song about happiness and hope. She danced, using the tools Noise had given her. Could they feel it? Did her song reach them the same way Replendia's did?

|| Weight of the World || Nier: Automata ||

The violence, the rage, the instinct to attack without even knowing anything, that was what the humans did. And Resplendia took it she did because it was the only thing she could do. She would not hurt these humans for it was her own fault they were created in the first place. With love she wanted to create a peoples capable of love. And now Yui, the baby Star of Happiness, could she do it? So far it was not working and Resplendia was ready to return to her refuge and plant her Stems back in to once again hibernate for a thousand years. Not even the Knight was able to do much, only exacerbating the problem. What could be done? Wait another thousand years for Paradise, that was what could be done. Then she would try again. Then she would save humanity from their own evil.

Trapped in the cage of blood tails, the thousand humans had no choice but to watch. They couldn't move, and trying to fight more would only make the Black Reaper mad. So watch they did, eyes stuck on the dancing singing fledgling Yui. It was not like Resplendia's Lullaby, the calming and depressing tones of her thousand year trial was not anything like the pained yet hopeful song that Yui was making for them all to hear. The effect too, was not like the Lullaby but something else entirely. "Do we have to fight?" The little girl asked, rubbing her bruised cheek that had been slapped. The man who hit her look ashamed and he kneeled down to help her rub the wound. "I'm sorry. Here's my number, I'll pay the medicals once we're back in Japan." He offered with kindness.

Ally was just quiet as she held Mizuki's hand, both of them knowing better. When the lullaby had ended, the two girls found each other in the mass of Human Subconscious and decided to watch Yui's work, having trust that now she knew what she was doing. Resplendia was not the enemy, but neither were these humans. No one here was evil and Yui understood that better than anyone. "She did it." Mizu grinned at Ally who nodded. "I never had any doubts." One elderly woman even walked through - Ronan allowed an opening in the cage for her - and gave Resplendia a hug, causing strange ichor-like tears to spill from the eyes which had been melted shut by the flames of humanity many eons ago in their rage that she refused to continue singing for them.

Well then.

[Perhaps then, you won this time. But your job was not to save these thousand, but all of humanity. I wish you luck, Baby Star, because we both know the nature of humanity.] Selfish creatures, bound by their own ambitions, desires, dreams, fears each one of them. How would Yui solve it without a hive mind Paradise? Maybe Resplendia was eager to see it from here. Luna and Ronan were slowly lowered then, both of them still asleep, their bodies twisted to become the Gateway. [My apologies for using Luna as a gateway to pull people in. Do not worry, no harm has become of them. They were asleep, but they were watching and I know they are proud of you."] Then Resplendia's singing went to all the humans's minds. [Enter the Gateway of Angels and return home. This place is not yet for you, but perhaps in one thousand years we will meet again."]

Yui had finished her dance and song, hoping that it hadn't been awful. She turned to see the humans had stopped their revolting, they no longer seemed so afraid. Ronan's cage melted, his blood tails returning to his body. Ally and Mizuki too, appeared happy, as though they had believed in her this entire time. Yui's heart sung with hope, she too, no longer felt so hesitant about her position. "I'm sorry Resplendia," Yui said quietly, watching the humans return through the gate, back towards their physical bodies. One by one they left, the two stars the only ones that remained. "I'm sorry you felt like this for so long, but you can go home now. Return to the Star Layer, let Cirque fix your wounds." Yui knew better than anyone how crafty Cirque could be when needed, especially when fixing xis precious stars. "I'm sure your family misses you." She looked up at Luna and Ren, the gateway that she would pass through to return.

"I'll see you again, this isn't goodbye, just, see you later." Yui smiled, stepping through the haze and closing her eyes.

"There's nothing more to do, I don't have anything left." Leo said softly as Raven sobbed. The moment Mizuki had touched Yui against the egg, Yui's body had suffered a grand mal seizure, which had led to a heart attack. For hours Leo worked, attempting to bring Yui back. "Yui is gone." Raven sobbed, her body racked with sorrow. "It's okay, she's not in pain anymore," Leo tried to assure Raven, patting her back. A small cloth had been draped over her face, the paramedics taking Yui's body to the morgue. "If the others wake up, I think it should be you that tells them," Raven said quietly, "I don't think I can even utter those words." Raven rose, looking at her stupid fiance, who was laying on the ground, asleep, but very much alive. Outside, it had begun to rain, thunder and lightning lighting up the sky.

"So sad, so young too." A nurse said, unbuttoning the hospital gown and removing Yui's diaper. She tossed both into the incinerator, attaching a tag to the child's toe. Her fingers and toes were blue, her pale hair seeming ghostly in the artificial light of the morgue. Yui was placed on a tray, which was then slid into a large, cold box. The door was sealed shut, a key code needed to open it. Leo delivered the news gently as each family member awoke, explaining that she was no longer suffering, that she was finally free of the burden. "She can't die," Ronan sat numbly at the edge of his bed, he felt sick. "She can't die, it's not... it's not true. Cirque, Cirque promised. So how could something like this... kill her?"

~

Yui stirred, her surroundings dark and cold. She shivered, realizing that she was naked. Where was she? What was happening? Why was she locked inside of a box? The baby star attempted to open her mouth, she tried to move her limbs, but realized that they were frozen. It was hard to breathe in the small, dark, box. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest, confused, tired, and frustrated.

Slowly the door opened, someone peaking inside. "Oh look, you managed to open your eyes. I'm surprised, I didn't think you would regenerate this quickly." The tray was pulled out, Yui looked up at the person speaking to her, realizing she had no idea who it was. "You don't know who I am, but I am very familiar with you, baby star. You could say I'm your big brother, your real big brother." Where were all these stars coming from? Yui wondered. "You should be happy, I've come to save you." He opened up a bag on the floor. "This is going to be our secret, alright?" A body bag, Yui realized as she was lowered into it, the bag zipping shut. Where were they going? Where was he taking her? "Just stay still a little longer, I will reunite you with your angels soon."

There was some polite Japanese exchanged between the unidentified star and the guard at the backdoor. "The body's been identified, I'm bringing it to the funeral home now." The star said, placing Yui in a truck. The engine started, the star reaching back to unzip the bag. "You probably have a lot of questions and I will answer them soon, but for now, just take a nap. It wouldn't do if you knew where we were going." He pushed something against her port, a burning filling her chest. Yui began to drift off, the effect immediate. "Humanity does not deserve your saving."

The pinkette was angry. Why was no one listening to anything? After waking up she felt weak and groggy, but also more powerful. While Resplendia remained in her realm inside the mass of human unconsciousness, where she would wait and watch for another thousand years before making Paradise again, Luna knew something was wrong. Yui was dead? Preposterous! All they had to do was look at their marks, at their wings! Just like with Irina, once the Light Seed bearer died, the light bearers lost their powers and their marks and became human again. But everyone still had their powers. And the Angels would lose their wings! But no, her wings were still here, and Ren's were too but no one was listening. The biggest piece of evidence that Yui was alive was that this layer had not yet fallen to Darkness, which was what was promised by the Stars themselves.

So obviously, Luna and Ren were on the job. "Hey, you're not supposed to be up!" Luna fought the dizziness, fought off the odd feeling of disconnect by not being in Paradise anymore and pushed her way through the hospital. Ren was there too, it seemed he had the exact same idea. "She's not dead." He whispered, eyes set, legs weak but steady at the same time. "We'll find her, even if the adults don't listen to us." The first thing was to contact the person in charge of driving Yui about. So Luna broke out of the hospital, flying with Ren in her grip to the Imperial Palace where no doubt all of Japan's systems would be. Suffocating a guard into sleep, they entered the control room with many monitors and cameras and the children got to work. It was one of Ally's inventions, and so the children were already accustomed to how she may put things together.

Ren found it out, all the routes to every single funeral home available in Japan by truck. "Okay, let's fly!" Luna was going on a terrorism mission. Would this mean they might have to fight against their friends? Sure, but they didn't care. "We can pretend to be Fallen Angels like Hazuki and Fumino." He told her with a half smile, and Luna nodded. After all, that was what happened before, too. So together they escaped the Imperial Palace, flying over the city skyline of New Tokyo. One by one they bombed all the roads with air attacks and illusions to stop the flow of traffic through the entire city. "I'm still connected to the Interface." Ren said, holding up his phone. He ruffled through, looking for the truck that had taken Yui from them. "There!" He rewound it and found that was the truck from the hospital. No doubt whoever the enemy was, they were there. "Lead the way." The pinkette grinned, ignoring the screams of terror and fear. Not to worry, she didn't kill anyone, all she did was destroy all the major roads.

And with a dramatic crash, the wind mage landed, creating a crater as she did so. The truck was there, and Luna could sense it, she could sense Yui's light. Ren's eyes were fixated in front of him, he could sense her too. She was here, and she was being taken away. "Next time try to be a bit more convincing!" Luna waved her arm, lifting the truck up into the sky with wind, then creating a cloud to fly the body bag to her, Ren making many illusions to try to hide them. "If she's dead, this world would fall to darkness!" Just like the Fetid Ancient had long ago. "Done." Ren said, showing off a new trick of his, something only an Angel could do. "Now we can always feel her light." Luna nodded, arrogant smile on her face.

She then created a huge windstorm, holding close to the Yuibag with all of her might as the winds flew all around them to cover their escape. Minako flew out from her, whipping through the air as an added weapon in the sudden storm. Ren was helping her, holding her hand and chaneling his light into her to power up her attacks as they tried to fly back to the hospital. "Call the team, tell them we're gonna need help!" Luna yelled at Ren who grabbed his phone and dialed Raven. "Help us!" He cried. "It was a trick! Yui's still alive and someone's trying to steal her away!"

A figure emerged from the overturned vehicle, their hat blowing off in the wind. He grinned, long black hair whipping in the wind. "Thank you for coming to me, I thought the knight would hide you away, but it seems you two fell for my trap quite quickly." Ren frowned, unzipping the body bag. It was filled with sand bags. He dropped it, his hands shaking. "What did you do with Yui?" He asked, seething, his fists shaking. "I hid her away, but do not worry, I will not harm the baby star." He moved his hands out, something hitting Ren in the back. The child fell forward, spiraling towards the ground. It felt as though a box was closing in all around him, his plummet abruptly stopping a few feet from the ground.

"My name is Tarik, the ex-Star of Gravity," he grinned, holding two fingers over one eye. "You are quite strong little angels, but I'm afraid, you aren't strong enough yet." Ren soared upwards, plummeting back down once more. He screamed in terror, stopping right before the round once again. He flipped over, turning in circles at speeds he didn't even believe were possible, is vision going black. "Wind versus gravity, I wonder what kind of battle that will be?" Tarik winked as Ren passed out, body going limp from the G-force. "Do not fear little angel, it is quite painless. Come quietly and I will explain why humanity does not deserve to be saved." He lifted Ren up, evading the wind quite easily. Tarik seemed to float as he gravitated upwards, offering out a hand. "We can do this the easy way, or the hard way."

He pulled out a knife, holding it against Ren's thigh, where an essential vein pulsated. "It was rash to come after me like this, if you had thought for a little bit longer, maybe you could have beat me." That was the problem with humans and angels, they spent so much time doing that they often forgot to stop and think. "Your knight is strong, your Empress is smart, but you are brash, perhaps a little too much. Lay down your arms and no one will get hurt, otherwise, I will have to call my reinforcements." Cirque of course, had made many stars over millions of years, it only made sense that some of them had fallen from grace and were living on earth. They had simply concealed themselves, having no interest in human affairs.

Until now.

Back at the hospital, Ronan attempted to get out of bed, grunting from the pain in his arm. "If she's still alive, they're going to need my help," he panted, knowing that Luna needed him now more then ever, that Yui needed him too. "You're not going anywhere," Leo replied, shaking his head. "We have our Empress for a reason, she'll take care of it. You need to focus on resting and healing," the hospital was a bit understaffed at the moment, many of the nurses and doctors had succumbed to Resplendia's lullaby and were recovering in the hallways, just waking up, confused, disoriented, and too weak to stand.

❝With blue radiance, the bird wants to sing.❞

|| Weight of the World || Nier: Automata ||

There was something this freak wasn't realizing, of course. As a result of being the source of the Paradise and the Gateway to enter, while Ren was the Gateway to exit, they had gained new powers too. So Luna began to sing at the top of her lungs, a screeching roaring song that sounded very unearthly, hurting even her own ears. The song echoed across the world and signaled an alarm in all the minds of the Japanese people. A warning, the Goddess was in danger, she was going to be taken away again. All of a sudden people got out of their cars, got out of their beds, they armed themselves, they would use everything in their power to protect the Goddess. Luna could sing into the Paradise and it would reach the backs of their minds. Ren could then sing to release them.

She sang even louder, unlocking something in her own mind, at least for now. What did she unlock, you ask? Though her soul was gone now, there was still a lot of her left behind and being housed in Luna's soul, just hidden and kept safely out of reach. Now though, she could reach it and Ren could lock it back up whenever they needed to. Darkness rippled through the pinkette's body, surging and she bled it through her lips. "Resplendia, guide me!" She muttered as she felt it, all of Aria's rage and hatred, except now it was directed at exactly one person. With power comparable to that of a Star, while civilians all gathered, aiming their cameras and weapons to try their best to help, Luna had summoned an army. "Mwahaha! The Goddess of Hyperdeath sings before you!"

She lunged fast enough to pull Ren out of Tariq's grip, the Star of Gravity was strong yes, but gravity could be overcome. She rushed with incredible speed through the gravity field, gravity working to help her as it gave her more speed and momentum, and the air burst pushed her through to swing behind Tariq, her arms transforming into dragons of air to strike, at Tariq's eyes she targeted everything at him. Meanwhile due to their connection, Ren knew that this was his chance to broadcast around for Yui's location, using his power in every which way, invading the minds of all humans to try to find a solution. A helicopter arrived then and seeds were spread - not Resplendia's seeds, but Raven's. "Donate your light to Angel Luna!" Raven declared and the light was chanelled through the Paradise to reach Luna's own soul, boosting her to even higher levels.

Was this dangerous? Of course it was, how could it not? But even so, that didn't matter. Yui was the top priority above all else, she mattered more than the rest. "Die!" The berserk Angel screamed, managing to speed up to break the sound barrier, grabbing at Tariq's throat, air rending at his eyes, his joints, his soul. "it's rude to take someone without asking! You should ask for permission from her next time!" She grinned, wrapping the battlefield into an impenetrable air bubble, sucking all the air out of it so that only she could breathe. "You have to make an appointment first, you rude moron! The Queen of Hyperdeath judges you with death!"

"Now!" Ren yelled through Paradise.

The Gateway Opened, the Cocoon forming all around them, slowly building up it's pulsating walls. "Stay there and never come out!" He would be able to watch, but do no harm from within. Even better - Resplendia was there, and connected to the Paradise as she and Ren were, both Angels could feel her rage at her successor being treated in such a manner.

A second bag was recovered from underneath a secret storage compartment within the vehicle. Yui was within, her lips blue, her limbs twisted at odd angles from the accident. "She isn't breathing," almost as soon as the words were uttered, the child sucked in a large breath, opening up her eyes. Regenerating for the second time in one day wasn't fun, it took a lot of energy. If one wanted to kill a star, it would take a lot more than a car accident. Sure it hurt, but even angels were sturdier than normal humans and could withstand more than a normal body. Yui's eyes filled with tears, she tried to speak, but she had lost her voice while screaming while the car flipped over.

The helicopter landed close by, Raven rushing out to help. "You guys," the child managed to get out, her throat raw. "We'll always find you," Ren said, giving her a thumb's up. "I think we have to go back to the hospital though," he admitted, scratching his cheek. "You don't look so good," Yui could have laughed. "Luna... you've gotten... so strong." She hadn't wanted their reunion to go like this, she had wanted to be there when they awoke. This strange incident had confirmed one thing though, Yui truly could not die under normal circumstances. "I'm glad you're okay," Ren teared up, "I was so scared when Leo told us you died, but Luna was smart, she figured out it was a trick really quickly." Well, it wasn't exactly a trick, Yui really had died, it had just taken her a little while to regenerate.

An ambulance arrived, Yui placed atop a stretcher carefully. "Luna and I will go with you, make sure you're safe," Ren assured Yui, holding his Queen's hand. "I'll follow with the helicopter," Raven said, she would be the eye in the sky to make sure no one else would go after them. It seemed that if the fallen stars wanted to get to them, they would have to go through the angels first. Yui was lucky she hadn't suffered any obvious damage from the seizures. Leo was of course going to run tests to make sure that there was truly nothing wrong, but once everything came back clear, he would release her from the hospital and back into the outside world. Ren and Luna too, weren't supposed to leave and should have been there under observation. He was both angry and relieved; upset that they had left the hospital, but relieved that they had brought Yui back in [mostly] one piece.

"You three, I swear, you get into more trouble than a barrel full of monkeys," he hit them all on the head, then got to taking care of their wounds. Ren was nearly unscathed, if not for the awful nausea that now plagued him. Still, Leo wanted him here to run tests and make sure that the sleeping would have no lasting effect. After being triaged and placed in a room with Luna, who would have to be her roommate during their stay, Yui was taken to get a full mental workup in order to make certain that she was alright. Leo didn't quite believe what he was seeing. It should have been worse, people who suffered grand mal seizures usually did not recover. "The most prominent symptoms are a slight muscle quiver along with minimal weakness and loss of bladder control," Leo explained to Raven, the only adult available right now. "In most patients, there's permanent confusion, or even total loss of limb use." The loss of bladder control wasn't all that much of a problem all things considering.

The other two could be easily worked out, once her limbs had healed a bit more. "I want to do a body MRI on Luna and Ren too, make sure that they're alright." He would need Raven's consent of course and the children's cooperation.

|| Weight of the World || Nier: Automata ||

The Gateway shut, locking the Fallen Star in Paradise for hopefully all eternity now. One problem with doing this was that the Angels were still able to be reached by him in their sleep - but hopefully Resplendia would prevent him from doing anything too much to hurt them in dreams. Another problem was that if the other Fallen Stars knew about their new powers due to being used as Gateways by the Lost Star Resplendia, then they would be able to plan for it in their next attempt to steal Yui. Not all as one, because that would mean a hive mind, but that didn't change the fact that they were now connected in a way with all humanity. A gift from the Lost Star, that was what the Angels had now.

Ren sang a gentle song, soft like the wind and Luna felt herself regain control, Aria's remnant hate and fury being once again shut in the box, lock and key both belonged to Ren because he was the one that had the right to protect his fellow star from her own power. Still, with the overflow of light she passed legal limits of light infusion for a Star to have and she was twitching now, power leaving her. "Light, return to your true owners." Raven called, and the ambient light flew through Paradise back to the humans who had lended their powers. That was when Raven released the seeds and the humans were happy, they felt like heroes for having helped protect their guardians. Luna fell Ren helped lift her, Raven sending them all home where they could recover from this latest attack.

Of course, this wasn't going to be the end of it. "They'll come again." Mizuki said, not at all apologetic for her role in events. If she hadn't done what she did, they never would have pacified Resplendia into waiting for another thousand years because Yui wouldn't have been able to enter Paradise. Paradise is a place only for humans, which unfortunately meant under normal rules Yui was not allowed in. "Then we'll devise countermeasures to stop them." But what could humans, even light bearers do against stars? "I'll make a drug, Ronan, that'll automatically inject into you whenever the sensors indicate Yui is in trouble." Ideally Ronan would be the first line of defense because he was the toughest of them all.

Back at the hospital Luna opened her eyes, feeling incredibly weak. "Shh, don't move." Ronan told her with a loving touch on the cheek. She whimpered and looked around. Was Yui saved? "You almost used up all the light in your body there, kiddo. Be more careful, okay?" She nodded weakly. "Only if Yui is safe." She hadn't had her MRI yet, Ren's would be first so they could see if it had damaged him in any way to have given away most of his light to Luna. No doubt just like Luna, he was exhausted and slowly replenishing his stores. "I'm proud of you." He hugged her, eyes still red from tears. "I heard a voice." Luna sounded almost in awe. "Yui... said that I'd finally become strong." She had done her best and finally she won a fight.

Yui lay in her hospital bed, slowly regaining feeling in her limbs. Luna had just woken up, the curtain divided so that Ronan could have a private moment with her. Ally sat with Yui in bed, holding the child on her lap. "You're high in demand Yui, it seems like everyone wants you and your angels, literally." Yui smiled faintly, vocal paralyses had set in moments after awakening, but Leo said it was temporary and should return as soon as the rest of her limbs did. Loki said he had never regenerated before and therefore, did not know how long it would take but was confident it would only be a few hours. She had undergone rigorous testing be Leo, a group of doctors coming by to watch curiously, having never seen someone return from the dead after being gone for more than three hours.

After being examined by a multitude of them, Yui had finally been allowed back to her room, where she was currently recovering. "Want something to eat?" Ally asked softly, hoping that Yui would at last be able to gain the weight back she had lost and be able to keep it on. Yui had a feeling that this was a rhetorical question since Ally pulled the dinner tray towards them, picking up the chopsticks to feed Yui. She made her eat an entire portion of broiled salmon and half a cup of pudding before Yui shook her head, not wanting anymore. No doubt the nurse was gonna make Ren eat, or perhaps he would consume three dinner plates on his own in order to replenish his light stores. "At this point, I should just adopt you as my child. You're pretty much my baby," Ally joked, poking Yui's cheek. Yui puffed them both out, as though to say that she was not a baby.

Ally giggled, the nurse coming in to take Luna to her MRI. Yui waggled her fingers as she passed, the most the child could manage at the moment. Ronan wasn't allowed to go with her, so he joined Ally and Yui on their side of the curtain, pushing it apart the curtains on the window as well so that the sunset light could reach them. "Yui, you've gotta stop disappearing," Ronan sighed, shaking his head. "Seriously, next time, I hope it's me they kidnap." He grinned, hooking a finger towards himself. "I'll give 'em hell if they so much as lay a finger on me," a nurse came to retrieve Ronan, panting hard. She had come all the way from the adult side of the hospital to look for him and was quite cross. "Ronan, you shouldn't be out of bed, you're supposed to be resting." After all, Ronan had just had surgery that week.

Ronan groaned, rising to his feet. He waved the nurse away, not wanting the wheelchair he had brought. "Night Yui, night Ally," he ruffled Yui's hair before making his exit. "Make sure you tell Lulu I say goodnight," Ally would be staying on the couch in the room, not wanting to let the children out of her sight. Xavier would be sleeping in Ren's room to keep watch and the hospital security was on high alert, aware that someone had impersonated a security guard. Currently, the physical body of Tarik was being kept on guard, monitored in the basement of the hospital.

As Gateways, Ren and Luna had new properties that Leo and everyone else really wanted to decipher. Of course, Ren's MRI was done now so all that was left was to do Luna's and then compare the results that they found. Luna was taken in while asleep so she wouldn't pick a fuss - though the girl didn't tend to be afraid of the big whirring machine, who knew, really, how she would react? She always had been the most unpredictable of the three children, that's for sure. After some time the MRI was complete and Leo had a big gamut of information to analyze now. Already he could see that there were some differences caused by what Resplendia had done and her gift to the children. Notably was a tiny little new gland in both of their bodies, around the pancreas, constantly emitting an unidentifiable psionic energy. "Paradise." The doctor whispered, making a guess on what that new gland was doing.

"You really should eat up." Ally said one day to Luna who felt nauseous and sick. It was the next day and the girl was being fussy. Why was she acting out? Well, perhaps you could blame it on overusing her light and burning out almost all of it in order to keep up with the new enemy, Tarik. Of course, you had to consider the effect of channeling thoughts and information through Paradise to the humans closely. It was likely that for Luna and Ren, transmitting things via Paradise would cost them light and tire them out a bit faster. "I don't want to, I don't want to eat." The child complained, looking away from the food. Maybe it looked delicious but to her it was all evil poison.

Allyana shook her head and wheeled up closer to take the spoon with an almost threatening smile. "It'll help you restore your light and you'll feel better." Luna looked with panic for help from either Ren or Yui, would one of them save her? But no, Ren was calmly eating his own food despite the pinkette being able to fear her partner's ill feelings as he did eat. She could feel it in the back of her mind. "Admit it, you just want Leo's babies!" Luna declared at Ally who blushed deeply. "How did you - oh, you cheater." The dreamweaver shoved the broiled fish into Luna's mouth for lunch and Luna looked even more tired out now. "Stop using Paradise, at least for now. It wears both of you out."

But Luna didn't understand why they didn't want her to practice the new ability. "But we trapped a Star in there. If more enemies come, we might have to trap more enemies in, and then we'll have to be stronger! So we have to practice using it!" It made sense, at least to her. Why wasn't anyone else listening? Ren seemed to nod at that. "We were given it for a reason." The boy spoke with a smart looking smile. "I think it's our job to get used to it." With Yui being the target of so many bad guys, the Angels had to stay at the top of their game.

The next morning, Yui had regained enough feeling to sit up. The vocal cord paralysis had gone away as well and as Ally nudged her awake in order to wash her ena, Yui managed to utter a good morning. "I'm so tired," Yui said, wiggling her toes as she tested them. Unfortunately, the effects of the seizures had left a slight tremor to her body, one that Leo had said was fixable. In the meanwhile, it looked as though the child was quivering in fear. She sat up, her arms shaking as she moved to support herself. "Dying twice in one day will do that to you," Ally leaned over in her seat, flicking Yui's forehead. "Ouch! Why'd you do that?" Yui asked, rubbing the spot where Ally's finger had landed. "Don't scare us like that again. I really thought..." tears welled up in Ally's eyes, she didn't have the strength to finish her thought.

"PT and OT are going to swing by," Ally took something out of the saddlebag on her wheelchair, Yui's eyes widened. A pair of big girl panties! "They're going to work on this too, so you can finally earn these back." Was there a way to fix Yui's bladder issue? Probably not, but it was worth a shot. If anything, Ally was going to have to collaborate with a few people to come up with more stylish diaper options for her little baby star. On the other side of the room, it seemed that Luna had begun to stir. "Tell her I say good morning," as her angel had not awoken before PT arrived to bring her to the gym. Yui rode in the wheelchair, humming to herself as she rode. "That's a cute song, I feel like I've heard it somewhere before," the child looked up, it was the same tune she had sung inside of Resplendia's paradise.

"Were you there?" Yui asked softly. "There? Hmm, I had a dream once where I was trapped in the sky," the transfer nurse said as though she weren't paying all that much attention. "I was crying, is what I remember. I kept having to sing a song, but my lungs burned and I just wanted to go home." It was just as Yui thought, Resplendia's paradise had been torture for a normal human. Sure, the star had built it with good intentions, but humans were not meant to work as a hive mind. They each had complex individual personalities that did not like to be overtaken or overburdened. They were very delicate and complex creatures, or at least, that's what Yui knew from her experience with them.

PT and OT was fun, it was mostly games to improve motor function and then, embarrassing toilet training. When it was over, the nurse wheeled Yui back to her room and helped her into bed, the child thoroughly tired. It was the most activity she had done in a while, having been confined to her room in the ICU when they were trying to figure out the seizures. Ally was trying to coax Luna to eat and Ren too, had come with his lunch tray, looking like he didn't want to eat but shoving food down his gullet anyhow. Ally lifted up the cover on Yui's tray, revealing her lunch of miso soup and an omurice. "I love soup," Yui decided, picking up her spoon to dig in. She remembered to clap her hands together, recalling the lesson that Xavier had taught her about respecting where the food had come from.

"Food is important Lulu, it gives you energy!"

Only with Yui's encouragement was Luna willing to give food a try. Needless to say it made her feel sick and awful but she had no choice but to eat. "If you eat every last bite, Mizuki will drive over and she'll help run the Paradise experiments." Luna was the entry, and Ren was the exit. They would both have to be at their best if they wanted to properly run the experiments on the strange land known as the subconscious of all humans on Earth. "Okay, fine! Yui, do you wanna watch?" The pinkette asked as she nibbled sourly on the fish. Normally she loved it but it just felt like eating slimy rubber right now. The doctors said she needed to eat so her stomach wouldn't forget how to but personally Luna was perfectly fine being fed intravenously.

After some struggle, the food was finished. Luna found herself in a large room set up just for these experiments. It had a special containment field built to make sure no dangerous energy escaped like had happened last time. Ren was there too, and both Angels were hooked up electronically to many monitors that would be examining their vitals. Leo was of course overseeing the experiment, while Mizuki was there to enter and exit the Gateways, with a team of two scientists, neither of whom were Light Bearers. It was odd - most people believed Paradise to simply be a dream that they had, while others acutely knew what had been going on. What was the difference between the two peoples? Leo had some theories but for now he wanted to run the test before finishing developing the thesis. Mizu looked a bit funny in her labcoat and her being shorter than the scientists didn't help. It was funny seeing her big sister looking so fancy.

"Okay, start the Gateway. Luna, open yours up so they can go into Paradise." Leo instructed and so Luna did so. She focused her mind on the pink fields, the glass kaleidoscope sky, the lonely cavern hidden by the pink dust and most of all, the haunting lullaby that spoke of a time before Light Seeds were on this planet. She felt her body twist and the Gateway opened, sucking light from her in order to maintain it. Pain shot through her mind but she held strong. "Just don't get caught by Tarik, though I think Resplendia's keeping him under wraps." Minako gave a wink and a nod and the trio entered's souls were sucked in.

After an hour, Leo instructed Ren to open his Exit Gateway. He did so by copying what Luna had done and from his body the glowing portal formed. It looked painful for him too as the souls of Minako and the two scientists were set free and put back into their bodies. Ren shut the Gateway then and Leo set up hospital beds for the three divers to recuperate on. "They're tired for now, they'll probably wake up by tomorrow." Leo's eyes were glowing at all the data he had uncovered. Luna however fell to her knees, buckling as horrible cramps erupted in her middle. Ren too, was wincing as he was in pain. "I don't think we can safely Gateway." Luna whimpered. "Not without borrowing light to do it first." It had taken far too much of their light to open and shut.

"I'll come watch, but only if you and Ren promise to eat your lunch!" Had they tasted the food of paradise and could never go back? Yui certainly hoped not. When they were done, the three of them went down to the lab, but Yui had to wait in a wheelchair behind the glass wall, only able to look inside. She leaned forward in her chair, eager to catch a glimpse at the beautiful archway that would form. She watched, her eyes widening as Luna's body twisted to form the gate. Yui suddenly felt awfully sleepy, as though someone had drained her of her energy. After all, when Luna and Ren used too much light and needed to borrow more, they took it directly from the baby star. Yui struggled to keep her eyes open as Ren twisted into an exit, his body disappearing.

Yui's eyes slowly began to close, the child no longer able to stay awake. She slumped forward in her seat, one of the portable monitors beginning to beep to let Leo know that something was up. He was so engrossed in his experiment that he didn't notice the sleeping child until it was over. It wasn't detrimental, but Yui would need a light infusion to recover. The child was wheeled back to her room, where Ally was waiting, frowning when she saw that Yui was asleep. "She must have been tired," the nurse mused, unaware of Yui's situation. She helped the child into bed, tucking the blanket in around her. "All tuckered out from therapy," Ally replied, wheeling towards the bed. "Will Luna and Ren be back soon?" Ally asked, acting as though she wasn't watching when in truth, she was closely observing the actions the nurse was taking in case they proved to be hostile. Thankfully, she started the light infusion into the port without complications.

Yui woke up a few minutes later, wondering what sorcery had brought her back to her room. "Welcome back, we're waiting for Luna and Ren, they're still being tested." Yui nodded, perhaps relieved for once that it was not her who was being stuck with needles and the like. "I hope they're alright, I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open," Yui confessed, wondering when her angels would return. There was a knock on the door, Ronan entered, grinning. "Do you have permission to be out of bed?" Ally asked, cocking a brow. "No, but I was bored, so I figured I'd swing by. Where are Luna and Ren?" Ronan asked, running a hand through his hair. "They're taking tests, hard ones! Leo's examining them," Ronan quirked a brow, positioning himself on the end of Yui's bed.

Ally brought out a bored game, one that would be easy for all three of them to learn together. Nothing violent, something slow paced that would be easy for Yui to control. The PT and OT team had told Ally how important games were, so the heiress was determined to introduce as many new games to the children as possible.

Eventually Mizuki and the two scientists woke up. Luna and Ren spent the waiting time drinking juice to replenish their energy because there was still more Leo wanted to test before he was satisfied for the time being. "So? What did you see?" Leo asked with fervent energy, eyes lit up with excitement. Mizuki grinned and described lavishly how Resplendia invited them to tea - not real tea, but in Paradise it seemed to replenish their souls. "No sign of that stupid gravity Star, but whatever." The blonde scientist seemed a bit confused. "We did that? I thought we just passed out. I don't remember anything." The redhead had a shaky little laugh. "I remember... vaguely, something. Wasn't it just a dream, though?" Leo then tested their light quantities to see if it lined up with his theories.

As a Light Bearer, Mizuki could remember it all vividly. All of the light bearers in the family remembered every last moment of Resplendia. Normal humans with elevated light above the average could vaguely remember it as a dream or a lost memory. Lastly, those with average or below average light seemed to have no recollection of Paradise in the slightest. Mizuki and the redhead were able to hum the tune of the lullaby, but the blonde didn't even remember that there was a lullaby to begin with. "It sounds like Resplendia's cooperating." Luna felt a bit relieved about that. While she and Ren were in Paradise they could see it all, they could see Resplendia's pain and feel it transmitting through to them. It was awful, yet they couldn't bring themselves to hate the former Star of Happiness. How could they, she never did anything evil! She just wanted everyone to be happy.

The next step was for Luna and Ren to use their ability to send things through Paradise to mankind. Well, to Mizuki and the two scientists specifically since they were within the Containment Field. Yui was gone now, she has passed out. Leo had an idea as to why but it was too early to know for sure just yet. So Leo drugged Luna with an injection and the girl seemed to fade in and out of consciousness. "Ren, tell her to send that feeling to the guinea pigs." Mizu stuck her tongue out at being called that but otherwise was waiting. So Ren sent her the signal and the pinkette shut her eyes, trying to spread the feeling of this dizzy tiredness. Almost immediately the near lightless blonde scientist passed out. Redhead needed a moment to lie down but did not fall asleep. Mizuki simply had a mild headache. "So those with more light are able to better resist the effects of Paradise." Leo muttered as he scribbled down notes. Last step for today was for Ren to release the feeling and pull it back out of Paradise. He did so and the three subjects seemed okay again. The side effect? Ren now seemed to exhibit the drug's effects.

Leo wheeled the dazed Luna and the drooling Ren back to the room where Yui and Ally were. Leo gave a smile as his girlfriend looked up from her wheelchair to greet him. "How did it go?" She asked, beaming. Leo smiled, his glasses almost fogging up. "I have so much data to crunch. Want to look it over with me later?" For Ally that was almost like being asked out on a date and for some reason she began to blush. "Oh - I'd love to! Thank you for inviting me!" Now that Ren and Luna were here, she continued teaching Yui all the rules to Snakes and Ladders. "Maybe once those two stop dribbling spit on themselves you can teach them what I've been teaching you!" The dreamweaver pat Yui's colorless hair with a motherly smile.

Re: Start

That word is hopefully correct. I mean I just made a new post so I hope so.

Re: Start

Word on the street is that we're alive again.

Re: Start

No, there will be no posting order.

I went in and did it for you, before you post, just copy and paste the code into the reply box.

Re: Start

Hey, I was just wondering if I forgot to do something in my post since mine lacks the whole character card portion at the top of it. And sorry if its something basic that I simply forgot to do since I rushed it a bit to get it done.

Re: Start

Hey, will there be a posting order?

We will be starting tonight, but before you post, here are a few things you should know.

☛ You have been in this world for give or take a month. While it may seem as though everyone died on the same night, in truth, everyone died around the same time. You could have been there a week longer, or maybe a few days less.

☛ You do have memories of your last life, unless you've explained that your price is the loss of memories. You have the same soul, but a different body.

☛ On the night of the full moon, your first faerie revel will take place. This will be the night the RP will start at. It is during this revel that you will discover the truth about your existence, that you've been chosen for a great journey to defeat Sorrow.

☛ What is Sorrow? Sorrow is the personification of the grief, sadness, and loneliness of the world. Should you be succumb to these feelings and be swallowed by Sorrow, you too will become a dark puppet for Sorrow to manipulate. There are ways to combat this and return to normal, these will be discovered during the RP.

☛ Have fun~

Re: Start

Hey Queen, you can go ahead and continue without me, you don't have to wait ok? You know the situation, so I probably wont be a major poster, I made Nyx and 'outsider' type because of that so there's no need to wait - I can easily just read over everything and catch up. :)

Re: Start

As of right now, we're awaiting on two people to finish their characters before we can begin. Squarenuggets is nearly half way done and Skykoko (Xue) who is hopefully beginning to finish up their bio. Thank you for your patience everyone, we'll be starting soon.

Re: Start

Yes Squarenuggets, there is one position open and it is that of the Changeling. You have forty eight hours to submit a work in progress in the CS which is posted somewhere in the OOC and five days to complete it. Please make a proper reservation if you wish to pursue the position.

Re: Start

Hey this looks extremely interesting and I was just wondering if anything else was still available.

Re: Start

Same here. He's done.

Re: Start

I have completed as well!

Re: Start

I've finished.

Re: Start

Allright I'll go for it. The WIP will be in tomorrow, but since it's Easter Sunday I probably won't be able to do a whole lot.

Re: Start

That would be a very interesting sort of haunting, I think you should go for it. Remember that once Sorrow is defeated the ghost will go away.

Re: Start

I was sort of thinking maybe he felt like he caused the death of a loved one, and constantly a ghost, or a voice would speak to him about how their death was his fault.

Re: Start

☛ TrivuLED || You have one major ability and one minor ability, shapeshifting will have to be one of them.

☛ Phantom's sword || I suggest you choose one emotion to discard, otherwise we'll end up with quite the dull Valkyrie

☛ Afreerobin || What sort of haunting? Would he be haunted by something he did in his past? Haunted by Sorrow?

☛ Victorant || A position may open, I'll be in touch if it does.

☛ Mazamazari || The Destiny Price is yours.

Re: Start

Agh I'll take the Destiny Price :o

Re: Start

It seems like everyone is having quite some difficulty with finding a price so let me give you a few ideas:

☛ Memory || Every time you cast a spell or use crucial magic, you lose one memory of your past.

☛ Feeling || The lose of an emotion like sadness or no longer being able to feel happiness. You could also lose the sensation of pain and while this may sound beneficial, it is actually quite a dangerous condition.

☛ Destiny || Every time you have a brush with death you lose a year of your life.

All of these conditions will be reversible once Sorrow has been defeated.

Re: Start

I apologize for that little disappearance, everyone's reservations seem to be in order so I'm going to put you all down. You have 48 to submit your WIP and five days to finish it. Failures to reply will be considered a strike and remember, three strikes and you're out.
