The flirt, the social butterfly, the intrusive presence in special moments. Ty could easily be summed up by a long sigh and a shake of the head. Filled with energy almost constantly and preferring to be in the presence of other people at all times, it’s hard to not experience Ty in all his shimmering glory at some point. While not a bad person, often doing his best to make sure everyone is included and going out of his way to help someone in need, he’s generally a hard person to stay around for any length of time. He wears people out just by being around them, a by product of his exuberant nature and something that he either can’t or won’t shut off. Underneath though, he’s a competent leader, tactician and strategist who sometimes (read: always) uses his gifts to get close to those he would deem attractive.

A man with a constant smile and swagger to his step, a beaming personality filled with an exuberance that rivals even the most optimistic people in the world. Unfettered by impending doom, danger or any sense of threat, Ty is truly a person who can keep his cool in practically any situation and think both inside and outside the box. Being a beacon of sunshine in a dark world, Ty does his best to bring light to anyone and everyone around him, regardless if they appreciate his presence. Filled to the brim with an energy derived from unknown sources, it is rare to catch this guy sleeping or even resting, as he seems to be driven by an unquenchable desire to be doing something exciting or otherwise worthy of his attention. With nothing but a laugh and a mix of a warcry and scream of excitement, Ty will leap into the fray without a moment’s hesitation.

A notorious flirt, Ty has been described as ‘someone who will chase anything with two legs and a pulse’, and this includes men as well. He doesn’t seem to be deterred by sex, seeing everything and everyone as a potential target for his affection even if they are quite clear that they don’t care nor want his forward intentions. With nothing but a laugh and a beaming smile bright enough to blind creature and person alike, he moves forward unfettered by these rebuttals, intent on making the whole world his harem it would seem. Whether this is his genuine goal or he sees it as nothing but a game is truly a question that goes unanswered, as he is more than capable of turning it off at a moment’s notice to focus on the more important matters at hand.

It would be too much to say that a switch has been flipped, as his personality remains largely the same. Shouting out flirtatious quips when the moment dies down, or smiling at an otherwise unwinnable situation, but Ty displays an adequacy for strategy and tactics that would seemingly be out of place for someone as carefree as him. Full of situational awareness and a keen eye, Ty has more than once accurately deduced a weakness before it was fully evident, and capitalized on it. This, along his infatuation with practically everyone on a...more than a professional manner, means he’s aware of everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. This allows him to pick people for the right job and allocate them accordingly. If one can get past his constant romantic advances and overly enthusiastic personality, they’ll find themselves a reliable leader with a strong record of beating the unbeatable.

That being said, there are a couple of things that Ty isn’t particularly good at. Boundaries would definitely be one, considering he often wants to be close to people regardless of their particular feelings towards him. He’ll often intrude on private moments because he wants to be where the action is, even if it’s something quite sensitive. His constant advances have become annoying on more than one occasion and people often need to take a break from him in order to recharge their own social batteries as he can wear people out with his presence alone. On top of this, Ty doesn’t handle being alone very well. He’s a social creature, and constantly requires company, even if that company doesn’t want him there. In fact, one could call his greatest fear ‘isolation’. While he’s not prone to panic, that would most likely be the closest he would get if he were cut off from people for any significant amount of time.

In the end, the reason Ty became a hunter isn’t necessarily because he wants to be a Hero, but because he found something he’s good at. Fighting and Leading are things that come as easily to him as breathing does, while also allowing him to remain fit and otherwise a specimen to behold in order to allow his flirtatious behaviour some merit on its own. Saving people is always a plus, looking good while doing it and eyeing up all the veritable ‘candy’ while doing so is probably his main goal as a hunter.

The name of the game is Light Absorption. Much like his personality, Ty’s semblance is directly linked to the amount of light he’s standing in. While within the presence of any lightsource, his aura will replenish faster than normal and can actually enter an ‘overcharged’ state, almost like adding an extra battery to his own personal shield. He can either use this to simply buff his defensive abilities, taking extra hits and otherwise stand tall under an assault that would topple other hunters, or he can go on the offensive with it. At a low charge, he can make himself burn bright, making it hard to look at Ty as if he were the sun itself and potentially blinding anyone looking at him. At mid charge, he can add a plasma-type element to his attacks, hitting like his weapons were superheated. At max charge, he can expel his entire aura in order to produce a singular blast. Typically from his right hand (Although he can expel it from any limb), his arm will glow intensely before expelling a beam of light that burns hot, cutting a swath in front of him or whichever direction he happens to be aiming. Doing so expels all current energy from his aura and leaves him otherwise defenseless for a minute or so. Technically speaking, he can perform this attack at any charge level, but to varying results. Predictably, the most powerful blast comes from a fully charged ‘battery’.

While Ty’s semblance charges faster under sunlight, artificial light works as well, although at a reduced rate (closer to 10%). So, as long as there is an actual light source that Ty can stand in, he’ll be charging his batteries in some form or another. Even moonlight works, as it is simply a reflection of the sun, although only at half capacity.

Labelled The Kurahai Twins, Ty’s weapons are a dual set of mechanized Tonfas. Instead of the typical ‘blunt’ approach to these weapons, the attack sides of the Tonfas are bladed, long enough to cause a serious injury should he get a good hit in. Naturally, these weapons are also machine guns, spouting barrels from the short side of the weapons. These weapons are more than capable of spitting out a sizable chunk of lead in a matter of seconds, but can burn through their ammunition in just the same amount. His weapons are reloaded much like a cassette player, which unfortunately means that Ty isn't able to refill his ammo quickly. Typically, when he runs out of ammo, he has to disengage momentarily in order to resupply.

These weapon’s transformed state sees them combined into a minigun type weapon. In this form, the ammo feed changes to a belt system that Ty usually wears on his person like a bandolier. In this form, Ty is extremely limited in his melee capability as the belt feed hampers his ability to move the weapon any great amount. Instead, he can disengage the belt and utilize the weapon as a single sided double handed blade (example, not actual image of his weapon) to engage people in close quarters once more. In this final form, Ty sacrifices speed for power, which he mainly uses against the more heavily armored foes he comes across.

Ty is the product of a nearly broken home, but not in the sense that his parents didn’t love him, but more in the sense that it was physically ripped apart at one point. Ty’s parents were your typical loving couple, caring deeply for each other and their child, and for most of Ty’s early childhood, everything was what one expected of the glory years of being young and unencumbered by the realities of the world. When Ty was 5 years old, his mother was killed in a White Fang terrorist attack which left his father devastated and Ty...well more or less confused. He wasn’t quite old enough to fully understand what had happened aside from the fact that his mother wasn’t coming back.

The next few years were tough for his father, who developed a drinking and gambling habit. Ty grew up more or less unaffected, and some people took this as a sign of potentially burying the issue, which could lead to serious psychological issues down the road. Instead, his father’s friends took it upon themselves to help fix Ty’s dad, and with their assistance they were able to get him back on the straight and narrow. This was a good thing too, as Ty was about to be pulled from his father’s care do to his inability to care for the child. When Ty was around 10 years old, his father met another woman and within a year they were married. Ty had a new mother, but like most step children, he had a problem looking at her like she was family. As far as he was concerned, she was a ‘friend of the family who lived with them’. He didn’t hate her, but he couldn’t bring himself to love her like a mother either. Instead, he ended up becoming rather distant with both her and his father, not out of malice but just out of general apathy and a seeming lack of comprehension regarding the situation. Ty knew at this point his mother was dead, and he had grieved in his own way, but this was just the way he was. As such, while he loved his dad and liked his step mom enough, they weren’t particularly close.

When Ty hit puberty though, his entire demeanor changed as soon as his hormones kicked in. Ty had been a rather quiet kid for the most part, had enough friends to get by and wasn’t lacking for much (at least once his father was back on his feet). When he started seeing people as potential targets for affection, it was as if a fire lit up in his chest and he absolutely refused to let it die down or even flicker. He became an extreme extrovert seemingly overnight, and pursued his ‘interests’ without remorse or, in some cases, caution. More than once, he sought the attention of a woman who was already dating someone, and got into more than one fight because of it. This is where he realized two things. One, that he was actually pretty damn good at fighting just from an instinctual level, and two...how attractive the boyfriend was when he was angry.

Not one to hide his feelings, Ty let pretty much everyone know that he cared not who or, in some cases, what you were. He could feel love for pretty much everyone under the sun, or at least his interpretation of love. His parents were admittedly confused at first, but their reaction was somewhat muted after that fact. After all, at this point they barely knew Ty and he was becoming more of an enigma to them each and every day. Seeking the easy road, Ty pursued his interests and what he was good at, respectively, everyone and fighting. When he signed up to Signal Academy, it was like walking into an all you could eat buffet. Almost everyone was physically at their peak and he could see himself enjoying his life quite a lot more if he stuck with this particular road.

Ty became known as the ‘playboy’ by the polite and ‘whore’ by the...less than polite. He cared little, because in Signal, he excelled. His attention to details, you know what I’m talking about, allowed him insight into those he would be going up against. Thinking of ways to take his enemies down came as natural to him as breathing, ideas flooding his mind like a waterfall with each and every move. People loved, liked, hated and absolutely detested him...but none could argue that he didn’t deserve to be there. When he moved up to Beacon, it was with honors and more than a fine enough pedigree behind him. His weapons, crafted while at Signal, became his pride and joys, naming them the Kurahai Twins not because of something or someone, but because everything was better when twins were involved.

The Emerald Forest stretched out beyond the edge of Beacon Cliff. Miles of lush, green trees could be seen, and hiding among them would be numerous Grimm, waiting to maul whichever unfortunate person crossed their path. Perhaps that foolish person would be one of the students gathered in front of Professor Văduva. All first year hunters stood before her, each standing on their own separate launch pad, preparing themselves mentally for whatever might occur. Beside her stood Professor Acardi, as stoic as ever, taking a headcount of all the students gathered to ensure that everyone was present. Giving her a silent nod, Văduva cleared her throat and began to speak. Her voice echoed throughout the vast space.

"As you are all quite aware of by now, this will be your first challenge during the four years that you will spend here at Beacon Academy. Before you is the Emerald Forest; the place where you will be launched into and be forced to navigate in hopes of reaching the very edge of the forest. There you will find several relics. Grab one and return back to the cliffs and you can consider your initiation complete." A few of the students' demeanors seemed to brighten at the explanation, before Văduva would crush their hopes for a simple and easy victory.

"Of course, that is not all that you will be required to do. Be well aware that there are creatures of Grimm inhabiting this forest. You will encounter them. You will be forced to fight them, and some of you may very well die trying."

Fear rippled throughout the students as they took in the full weight of the situation. Each of them knew well how dangerous Grimm were, and even though some of them have had their own varying encounters with the soulless creatures, there were still stories of even the greatest hunters being slain by Grimm. Those stories only grew in number after the Fall occurred, leaving many great hunters either dead or injured beyond repair.

Commotion sparked as a few of the students voiced their worries; second thoughts beginning to cross their minds. Văduva waited until the noise had died back down before she continued, "But you also know that you will not be going into this alone. The first person that you make eye contact with will be your partner for the next four years. You will also be monitored throughout the entirety of the initiation, but no instructors will be stepping in to help you should anything go wrong. Once you return to the cliffs, we will take the relic you have chosen and grade you appropriately for your performance. After everyone has returned, your teammates for your years at Beacon will be chosen."

As Professor Văduva finished speaking, she raised her eyebrows in expectancy, waiting for questions that needed to be answered. After all questions were taken care of, she in turn gave her own nod to Professor Acardi, who looked up from his scroll towards the students.

"Oh! And as a final note, there are a limited amount of relics. If you and your partner do not reach the temple in time to receive them, you both will be forced to leave Beacon Academy."

"Okay everyone, take your positions!"

And one by one, each of the first year students were launched into the Emerald Forest.

This was it.

As Po looked over the forest they would all soon find themselves flying towards, he clenched his axes in his hands, when they weren’t twirling the weapons like batons with a surprising amount of fluidity. He very obviously wasn’t paying attention to what he was doing with them, his face a mixture of deep thought and unknown confusion as he attempted to make some sort of plan for his next step towards becoming a hunter. Alright, this is nothing, just have to remain calm and level, keep things on a swivel and make sure to get out alive while completing whatever tests they want us to do...no biggie. Po thought to himself, so distracted within his own head that he actually jumped when the headmaster started speaking. Already, he could tell that he would need to calm down and not rattle his own nerves. This was just another test, something he was well prepared for and something he could pass for sure. He just needed to have some level of confidence in himself. Right, he had done this before, what was so different? Oh, that's right, only the next barrier of entry towards his dream that should he fail will most likely set him down a path of disappointment.

Man, I need to chill.

When the Professor mentioned that some of them might die performing this task, that seemed to instill Po both with a sense of dread and purpose, although more leaning towards dread. Good, just what I needed, another reminder of death being around the corner.
Po took a moment to breath, his axes returned to a resting position in his hands as he managed to bring himself to a more level headed position. He would need his wits about him for this, after all, he wouldn’t be the only one racing for these relics, so he would need to make sure to get there fast. Speed wouldn’t be an issue, at least not for him, but the Grimm and whoever his partner ended up being might slow him down. Not a good idea to start thinking like that now Po, it will only set a precedent. Believe in the best and the best will happen. Po thought, reprimanding himself for his own downward spiral.

Then came the eye contact, so that was how partners would be chosen. Partners for the entirety of their stay here at Beacon. Looking between the other applicants currently waiting to enter the forest, he couldn’t tell who would be the best fit for him. For the most part, they all seemed to be ready and willing to perform the challenge ahead, so ambition and courage were not absent from this group. It was more a matter of personality, something he couldn’t read from a glance alone. A final note that there were only a limited number of relics available, meaning it was possible to succeed and fail at the same time, made Po tense up once more. He had to win, he had to succeed on both fronts. He did not want to have a conversation with his parents, more specifically his mother, as to why he was walking home with his head hung low.

She would most likely ‘train’ him some more, and he just wasn’t sure if he would survive it.

Questions were asked but Po was already too focused on his landing spot to pay attention. He needed to make sure he stuck the landing and was on the move the moment he landed. Soon, the pads beneath their feet starting shooting people into the sky, and shortly Po was airborne.

Po spread out his limbs, slowing his descent as he looked over the trees of the forest, his body glowing a soft gold as he appeared to move up and down in the air, utilizing his gravity ability for a limited version of flight. His eyes darted from spot to spot, each one having their own problem; a couple grim here, too much obstructions there. Finally, he selected one he liked and angled himself downwards. Within moments, he reached a tree near his chosen landing zone, digging in his axes to grind down the bark of the tree, slowing his landing to tolerable levels as he spiraled around the trunk of the plant, landing harder than he would have liked and ending in a roll that left him in a crouching position. Taking a quick glance to make sure nothing was overly hurt or broken, he took off at a sprint, his body glowing slightly once more as his body became lighter and allowed him to move faster as he darted through the forest.

He wouldn’t fail. He couldn’t fail.

If one could sum up the expression on Xeno’s face, it would be condescension. His eyes were half closed, his mouth pursed into a line and crossed arms fit into an image of a Hunter in training who just couldn’t be bothered with any of this. As if the training and entrance exam itself was so far beneath him that even being here was a favor to the teachers rather than a necessity to him. Xeno’s clothes seemed to reflect this fact as his black vest, white shirt, black tie and black gloves gave him an uncaring professional vibe that made it seem increasingly difficult to even approach him. His eyes seemed to glaze over the forest, knowing exactly what the pad beneath his feet was for and already having decided on his landing zone ahead of time. He only needed to know what he was grabbing and where to take it. Anything other than that was useless information that he wouldn’t need in order to show the rest of these wannabes and so-called teachers that he was more than worthy of being here. His bow hung off his back, his arrows on the back of his hip and the rest of him was coiled muscle made ready from years of training and unrelenting pursuit of his goals.

When the Professor started to talk, Xenos didn’t flinch or even give any kind of indication that he had even heard her start speaking. He continued to stare out into the forest with a disinterested gaze that to the uninitiated, might look like he was bored. In reality, he simply knew what to expect and simply didn’t care. She mentioned the relics, and where to bring them. That was the only information he needed, and with it he was ready to get started. Yet she continued to talk and detail more information that made Xenos want to scream at them to just launch them into the forest already. Grimm inhabiting the forest, things were dangerous, blah blah blah blah blah. If anyone here thought that there wasn’t any Grimm where they were about to be launched, then they deserved to die for being stupid enough to be here in the first place.

It wasn’t until the Professor mentioned a partner did Xenos give any indication that he had been listening, releasing a very audible groan. He had no intention of being bogged down by the mediocrity of those who surrounded him currently. He didn’t need anyone to get him here, and he didn’t need anyone going forward, all they would do was prevent him from achieving his goals. His eyes briefly darted to the Professor with all the subtlety of a predator eyeing his prey. When she finished speaking, she seemed to pause logically for questions to be raised, and Xenos raised his hand partially in what could only be called the arrogant man’s lazy hand raise.

”What happens if we don’t make eye contact with another hunter?” Xenos asked, hoping there might be some loophole to get himself out of potentially partnering with anyone in this pathetic excuse for a test. She looked over to Xenos, her response curt and to the point.

“You and one other person who did not come into contact with another hunter will be partnered together once you return to the cliff with your relics.” Xenos gave a grunt, realizing that unless literally people died or outright failed, he would be forced into a partnership with an undesirable. Despite his utter non acceptance of this answer, the Professor continued, stating that the relics were finite in number, and that it was possible to fail simply due to lack of objects to retrieve and being too slow. Once again, Xenos raised his hand in a similar fashion.

”If there are no relics left, are we allowed to target other hunters for their relics?” This seemed to earn a slight eye narrow at him as he gazed over at her dispassionately.

“So long as hunters do not fatally harm or kill one another, you are free to steal relics for yourself.” Xenos had his answer, so even if he did somehow, impossibly, come up late to the relics, he would have a backup plan in place. With the questions answered, the pads started lighting up and one by one, the hunters were launched into the forest. By the time it got to Xenos, he was already wired and ready. Coiled like a snake jumping out of a pot, Xenos was thrown through the air and set about making his course for his chosen landing spot. Using one of the thicker branches of the many trees covering the area, he grappled on with his hands once close enough and used them much in the same way a gymnast would use balancing bars. Flipping and spinning between them, he reached the ground with somewhat of a flourish, the only thing bugging him about it was the amount of dust now smearing his dress pants. With a small sneer and a quick pat of his pants to free the dirt from his clothes, he looked in the direction he believed the relics to be, and started making his way there with as much haste as he could muster.

It would be accurate to say that Quincy was almost completely unfamiliar with the type of environment that she found herself in at the moment. Not only among the lush, green forest and thick undergrowth that was the Emerald Forest, but also among the numerous other hunters that stood along with her as they prepared for their initiation. When she was young, she only had the company of the little band of nomads that she and her brother traveled with in Menagerie. After the Fall, when she had left Menagerie for Atlas, she still spent a limited amount of time around the general populace. Now that she was surrounded with others her age, Quincy felt that she had little in common with them.

Not to mention that she felt even more out of place since she was one of the few actually wearing what she considered to be suitable armor, given the fact that they were going up against beasts who killed solely for the sake of.

The least that she could say was that the concept of the initiation was interesting, and truly the best way to test anyone who wished to be a student at Beacon. It would put into perspective numerous aspects of their abilities, and Quincy was eager to see how she would perform. She thought little of the fact that they'd be paring up into teams of two for the initiation and then subsequently pared into groups of four. Having little experience with working in a group of others, it working in a team of hunters was a foreign concept, but if it was the sake of survival, and furthering her skills as a huntress, then she would welcome it so long as the others in her group pulled their own weight.

Quincy continued to listen to Professor Văduva as she quietly sharpened her sword, Penna, in preparation for whatever Grimm she was fated to come across. She wasn't exactly sure how she was gonna land without breaking a bone or two, but that was frankly the least of her concerns. She glanced towards the forest once more, her semblance showing threads of black energy that were unmistakably Grimm. The amount of energy the threads gave off varied in accordance to the size of the Grimm that the thread represented, and in accordance to that there would be some vastly dangerous Grimm in the forest. Besides that, there were also brown threads that represented regular forest wild life.

I wouldn't even know what to expect out of the Grimm that are native to Vale. She thought as she turned to the others. The hunters around her also had their own specific colors in regard to their aura, but there were far too many to make note of every single one of them, unfortunately.

After Professor Văduva finished her instruction, with a simple nod to the man standing next to her, they were told to ready themselves. On a mere whim, she quickly looked through her small pouch of Dust crystals and pulled out a black, almost levitating crystal of Gravity Dust before lodging in into the tear dropped shape slot on her sword. It wouldn't exactly stop her from falling, however, she could use the energy in order to slow her descent quite a bit. It was a bit of a gamble, but it was better than any alternative that she could think of.

Soon enough people began to be shot off into the forest, and with a rush of air she felt herself go flying as well. Numerous threads of energy blurred her vision, some belonging to Grimm or the hunters flying past her, but she managed to see past all of them and find a suitable landing spot away from any major sources of Grimm energy. As soon as the force of the launch pad stopped acting on her and she went into a total free fall, she quickly shot a large beam of Gravity Dust directly below her. Given the type of Dust that it was, it quickly into a floating cloud, and as she passed through her fall slowed significantly, allowing her to land in a roll without much injury besides a few scrapes.

Quincy glanced at the energy that surrounded her. Far away from her were multiple signatures of hunters and Grimm, but one Grimm signature appeared uncomfortably close, and it was quickly making its way towards her. Her shield was out before she ever had a chance to draw her sword, and in seconds the impact from the charging Grimm sent her ramming into the side of a tree, crumpling to the ground. She stood as quickly as she could, drawing her sword and preparing for the Grimm's next charge. This certainly isn't the greatest start. I need to take it down as swiftly as possible to make up for lost time.

Ignia's eyes were glued to her cards.

A: "Hello, how has your day been?"

A tough battle indeed. She had to avoid revealing too much about herself but giving enough personal info to form a lasting and positive impression, that could lead to an enduring relationship, then dividing into sleep-overs or perhaps planned MEETUPS? She could save time by stating that it was good, but then she would be seen as a normie. Someone who responds to an interesting question with such half-hearted answers. She read in a book somewhere that intentionally revealing less information could make a woman seem mysterious, alluring and therefore attractive by default. Would that mean playing hard to get? She didn't want to play hard-to-get, that could be seen as pushing away potential friends due to a tragic event in the past or perhaps to save their peers from the person's inner demons.

Ignia fumbled with her cards. Tapping her pen on the hard-paper stack as she made numerous ink dots unknowingly. Aside from going where she was told, she was not listening to anything she was told. People say to stay away from screens as they would rot your brain, read books instead. In Ignia's case, her mind has been filled with warped impressions of simple ideas of love and friendship, by authors who put pen to paper as a livelihood instead of a passion. She was plenty passionate, though prone to using energy for things that don't matter at all.

Mouth-noise, all of it. Ignia's hands moved, sorting through her beloved conversation script stack, but her ears did not twitch once. The scary lady spoke of important information and such, but Ignia, unfortunately, did not hear a single word. She wasn't lazy, or disinterested. Failing the acceptance test would be a nightmare for the poor girl, having to spend her days as a huntress all alone. No friends until she grew old, placed in a nursing home with her only companion a half-blind janitor who helps her take her medicine. Ignia slapped her cheeks until they look flushed. Think good thoughts Ignia! You can't lose faith now.

Her own words of encouragement kept her focused, placing her cards in her pocket, completely oblivious as her peers were launched into the air around her. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes before finding herself in the air. She didn't know what happened but she was falling fast. Extending her hook-shot arm, she aimed it at a taller tree and shot the harpoon through multiple branches. As the cable ran out, she swung to the nearest limb of the tree and landed on the bark as footing.

Hmm...what was she supposed to do again? The only possible solution was to find someone and introduce herself to them.
That must be why they flung her into such a large area, so she could find multiple friends and they could reach the finish line together. What an invigorating and effective way to have them meet each other? She never doubted the management at the beacon, and this was one of the reasons why!

Bringing her hook shot back, she aimed her other hand at a tree, demonstrating the same motion and bringing herself to the branch in a swift fashion. Ignia went on her merry way, swinging in the direction of any noise and completely ignoring the Grimm that walked about the ground.

Esmeray already didn't like this.

Firstly, the kingdom of Vale made her want to turn tail and rush back to Kuchinashi, a place she was far more comfortable in. In Esmeray's opinion, Vale was the "best" of the four kingdoms by conventional standards. If the four kingdoms were daughters or sons, then Vacuo, Atlas, and Mistral would be the not so well-rounded ones, the children with prominent strengths and flaws, while Vale would be that perfect child who was good at everything. At least, that's how Esmeray saw it.

Esmeray didn't quite like "perfect."

She was sure, looking at her surroundings, that the people she was currently with had all come from diverse backgrounds, and with different backgrounds came different values. Esmeray herself had always relied on discord and dishonesty to survive. Joining some Huntsmen academy, especially one in Vale, conflicted everything else she had ever done to keep herself alive. Of course, she didn't live life with a mindset like that of an unoriginal storybook villain with no true motivations. Esmeray could truly care less about how her actions affected others, as long as they benefited herself. Before, that meant acting as a jack of all trades of sorts, in attempt not to fall behind the others of Esmeray's hometown, but ever since the Fall, that business lost its value, and that forced Esmeray to make the decision of becoming a Huntress. She fled to Vale, knowing that the division between social classes in her home continent was going to restrict her if Esmeray stayed in Mistral. Plus, although she would never admit it, Esmeray had a fear that back in Mistral, someone might recognize her criminalistic alter ego and connect her to Rae, who had gotten significantly more notorious than Esmeray would've liked (sure, having a reputable reputation was nice, but being too well-known wasn't good either).

Esmeray listened only somewhat attentively to Văduva's speech, trusting herself to beat the others in whatever they were doing anyway. She remained primarily unbothered by Văduva's warning about the Grimm, but visibly grimaced when she mentioned partners. Esmeray liked to think she was a relatively skilled individual (she knew how stupid it was to be overconfident, but she did have some credentials), but she was also painfully aware that teamwork was not her strong suit. Esmeray prayed that her future partner wasn't going to be an utter idiot (although, if one manages to pass this preliminary test with relics and whatnot, then one can't be too horrible).

Of course, Esmeray couldn't overlook the fact that there were only a limited amount of relics available. She was confident that she could retrieve one of them herself; if she didn't have to ability to do so, then that would be a personal fault and shame.

After the blonde boy finished asking his questions, the launchpads beneath the potential Huntsmen and Huntresses' feet shot them into the sky. As Esmeray flew upwards, she reached into her small pouch of useless belongings, pulling out a clear pebble. She manifested the energy of her power into it, watching it seemingly transform into a mini parachute right before her eyes. Esmeray allowed herself to drop rapidly, gaining speed as she felt ripples of harsh wind blowing against her face. Just when Esmeray saw blurs of green beginning to grow closer and closer to her body, she opened her parachute illusion, her descent slowing down almost immediately. Esmeray's landing was still a bit rough as she curled into a ball to sustain impact, but she didn't retain any injuries other than maybe a scratch or two. Perhaps she could've landed in a safer and gentler way, but Esmeray preferred to be efficient. After all, there wasn't much time to spare.

Esmeray lifted her hold of her illusion as she stood up, the parachute morphing back into a small pebble as it tumbled across the ground. She had only sustained the illusion for about thirty seconds or so; she could easily create another illusion if needed.
