There is a cafe in a back alley where liberated semi-sentient robots as well as cyborgs gather, however government forces keep a tight watch on them as they suspect rebels.

Introduction

It is 2049. In Lisanna city, most robots and androids are still bound to service humans, however if they showed enough sentience they could be liberated from servitude and practically live their own "lives" as long as they didn't develop any intentions to harm humans. They mostly live in "boxes" or small containers in the poorer sections of the city. But it is not like they are alone with others like them. Heavily modified cyborgs tend to get into friendships with the sentient robots. The heavily modified cyborgs are also often frown upon on, especially because of how little of them can be organic tissue. But some of them meet up in a cafe in a back alley. While sort of shady on the outside, it is quite nice on the inside. The cafe even offers the robots upgrades so that they are able to even enjoy the coffee and snacks there. However the local government is suspicious of their activities and has people keeping their eyes on the cafe. Who knows? Maybe even some people there have plans but will not discuss it in such an open place like the cafe. But mostly the patrons just go there to talk, discuss and get along.

Lisanna city: Lisanna is a smoggy metropolis that often has dark days due to the clouds caused by the industry. There are three kinds of residential areas: the urban lofts and apartments, the clean suburbs and the sometimes gigantic shipping container slums. Most prominent people and bureaucrats can afford the apartments in the skyrises while the middle class is mostly in the suburbs having to worry about longer travel times to their workplaces. The poor, the sentient robots and many heavily modified cyborgs live in the slums.

The urban residencies: Towards the city center skyrises decorate the area. Everything from grocery stores to malls and restaurants to tram stations are located nearby. You only get apartments here if you have wealth, power or are favored by someone with power. So pretty much corporate bosses, bureaucrats, actors, music stars and politicians live here. They don't even care about the jealousy of other citizens.

The suburbs: Probably ideal for families or people who prefer a quiet place to live. These are the cores of the middle class. By care it takes long to get into the city center though but some tram and subway stations are available here. Shopping possibilities and dining are mostly located clustered up in a certain area between the suburbs.

The slums aka metal cities: The slums are mostly consisted of shipping containers or self made housing. The upside here is that it is nearly free to live here and electricity causes a minimal upcost. Most of the lower class lives here. That includes the poor, former convicts, sentient/ownerless robots and androids as well as many of the heavily modified cyborgs. The areas of the slums are safer than they actually look as many cyborgs here serve as guardians and ward off criminals. There might be a couple places where mobsters or gangs are in control however it is not likely that they will take a step out of their turf unless they need to get to another part of the city.

Cyborgs
There are three kinds of cyborgs in the city: The casually modified cyborgs, moderately modified cyborgs and heavily modified cyborgs.

Casual cyborgs: The casually modified cyborgs make up a large part of the population and it basically really means that they have minimal modifications such as phone implants or cybernet/internet implants. These seem to be more hidden features that only are of recreational or everyday use.

Moderate cyborgs: Moderately modified cyborgs are often also called occupational cyborgs as they had only undergone modifications for occupational purposes. Cyborgs count as this if their modifications make up less than 80 percent of their bodies whereas most of them lie around the 10 to 20 percent mark.

Heavily modified cyborgs: Heavily modified cyborgs are cyborgs that consist of at least 80% cybernetic parts and come to this because of various reasons such as a nearly fatal incident, specialized jobs that require high attack and defense, personal obsession with cybernetics etc. They often live in the slums and protect the neighborhoods, however some live in the urban residencies due to wealth or a government position. It is somewhat easy to identify a government cyborg though due to a mark or barcode on an artificial body part or a identification signature from an integrated chip.

Robots
There are liberated robots and service robots. Androids also fall under robots.

Service robots: Service robots are robots that have a master or owner. The often possess minimal or no sentience due to a law that doesn't allow sentient robots to be owned due to the possibility to turn on their owners. Service robots and androids tend to work as housekeepers, maids, butlers, nannies or anything that services humans directly.

Liberated robots: Sentient AI pretty much own themselves due to a law enacted to protect humans from possible attacks by sentient AI. They fall under human law and jurisdiction, however are commonly of low status. They generally work as day labourers, factory workers, delivery services but anything that doesn't impact the human job market too much. A robot doctor is however very rare. They mostly live in the slums with the except of rather wealthy bots such as robot popstars who aren't allowed to live in the urban residencies but can live in the suburbs.

Note: if you have pictures that may be beneficial to the descriptions above, you may message me with your suggestion.

The Robot Cafe/Paradox Cafe: The Paradox Cafe is the cafe where the robots and cyborgs meet up. It is located in a back alley in a poorer part of the city bordering the slums. Dirty and ugly on the outside but clean and nice on the inside. It has room for about fifty patrons and offers coffee blends mostly known to the wealthy as well as snack. There is a workshop in the back to offer free upgrades for robots who desire to know how something tastes like as well as discount and fair priced upgrades for anyone who seeks it. The floor is made of a sturdy wood like PVC and the tables and chair are made of wood that could even support a robot weighing over a ton. There are stairs that lead to an upstairs room that contains books and monitors. The entire cafe has surprisingly fast internet and cybernet availability: Wireless for internet. Wall sockets and countertop sockets for cybernet. The prices here are quite affordable and the snacks are often fresh baked. The cafe however has a policy that doesn't allow unmodified humans and casual cyborgs in. If one still comes in and doesn't want to leave when asked to, they should expect to be sedated and wake up in a police station with a lawsuit for trespassing. This is to avoid the common prejudice commonly coming from those types. Exceptions are made if a patron asks the cafe for permission to invite a non-cyborg and the permission is granted.

Combat situations: Other than a bar fight with a non-player character, please ask in OOC to be able to do something more serious and please give a short summary of your intentions (fighting government agents, sadistic gore scene, gunfights)
Use the character sheet: If you end up using premade characters who have little to no relevance to the roleplay, then don't be surprised when the character is rejected. Please make sure your character is relevant and do not overpower your character. We don't want mechas or superhero type of characters walking in. Acceptable high powered character types are like Raiden just without bullet time, super speed or electric swords.

Run your character through the Mary-Sue litmus test just to make sure that your character is not a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu. http://www.springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm

The alarm buzzed and Alina had awakened. It was 8 am, time to get up. Alina went into a chamber and a door closed. Inside the chamber, a chemical spray came out of the walls and then her skin was automatically scrubbed by the machine operated chamber. She then headed out of the chamber and clothed herself. Once she had a set of clothes on, she headed out of her home. It was dark outside which was normal for a weekday as a fog from the nearby industries darkened the sky over the industrial park and the slums.

As she strolled through the slums, she encountered many sentient robots and cyborgs. However most of them had already left for their workplaces in the factories. Alina however was heading over to the cafe she worked at. She soon reached the end of the slum and came to a different kind of poor neighborhood with old run down apartment buildings. The cyborg then turned to a side alley and passed through a door. There inside was already someone at the counter waiting for their shift to end and Alina to start hers.

"Okay. I am here now. Enjoy the rest of your day." Alina said and smiled. Aline then touched a pad on the counter and her eyes lit up briefly. A voice then said: "Clock in confirmed." Now it was just time to wait for customers. Meanwhile Alina brewed herself a coffee and grabbed a cookie.

Buttons was in the midst of his morning routine of mopping the floor before anyone arrived when he noticed Alina enter. He would like to converse with his co-worker as soon as possible, so he picked up his pace. His wheels slipped and slid on the sudsy puddles his mop left behind. Eventually, he was able to finish, and put up a "Caution; Wet" sign from the nearby janitor's closet before rolling over to where Alina was standing behind the counter.

"Good morning!" he said, his mechanical voice cracking from trying to speak with anything other than a monotone.

"Good morning Buttons!" Alina replied and smiled. She loaded some beans into the grinder and activated it. "So how are you doing?" She asked.

Meanwhile a customer had come in. It was a large man with a mostly metallic body. "I will have the usual Alina." He said. Alina already filled in some alcohol into a mug for the man's grog and filled some fresh brewed coffee in after. Alina then handed the man the mug and he took a sip. "Ahhh. A nice warm grog. You're the best Alina!" He then said with a sign of satisfaction on his face. Alina motioned back and said: "It is my pleasure. So what's new?" "Well there was a suspicious man outside with a barcode on his forehead. He tried to cause some trouble, however rebels ambushed him in an alley and took him apart." The man said.

Alina sighed and replied: "Agents these days are so uncareful. Back in my day, we didn't solely rely on our modifications but also on smarts, even when it came to taking out corrupt politician. However nowadays agents don't serve good morality but only serve their corrupt masters and wouldn't flinch when it came to making a beggar disappear."

"I'm doing alright!" Buttons managed to get in before the customer opened the door. He looked up to see a large man enter, and felt a tad bit scared. Large robots and cyborgs frightened him, because Buttons was well aware of how easily they could obliterate him, like a can in a can crusher. However, once this man expressed some kind of kindness, he relaxed somewhat and leaned against the counter to listen to their conversation with morbid interest. He had not been alive for very long and didn't really know what agents were like "back in the day", but he trusted Alina when she said they were skilled.

The mysterious man with a barcode on his forehead sounded rather threatening to him. He just knew that this man was not an isolated incident; that more strange people would come to the slums and lash out violently. Buttons was terrified. He must remember to lock the doors to the dumpster tonight.

The newly brewed coffee got done. "By the way, when people get tore apart their parts normally end up here for salvage. Too bad the government took the agents parts though, I could have done some reverse engineering." Alina said. "Back in the day, I had an ID chip in my hand and it was only readable with certain devices. But it's been long out. However the weapons are still there, just in case. I really hope that customers will show up soon. It is a bit empty this morning. Plus we need to get our upgraded cybernet connection tested and I shouldn't do it since only one person cannot defend the cafe in an emergency. But what I can do is charge myself for the time being." Alinas left ear then popped out per mechanical function and she pulled out a cable from the hole then connecting it to a wall socket. The hole however was hidden under her hair and it looked like a wire came out of her hair.

(I was planning on doing that rather soon, I'll do it now though!)

It was rare for Marina to have a day off from work, but here she was. Stuck in her dingy apartment with nothing to do. Her wifi was on the fritz, and she had read every book in her bookshelf dozens of times each. Perhaps she should go out somewhere. Groaning, she pulled her lab coat on and rushed out the door, locking it behind her. There was a coffee shop down the street, right? She should get something to drink from there. It took a while for Marina to maneuver through the hustle and bustle of the various robots crossing the streets of the slums, but she eventually reached her destination. Hoping and praying that the coffee shop was not crowded, she pushed open the door and examined the inside.
