Introduction
We were colonizing Mars and curing cancer. People truly thought humanity was heading for perfection......
Then we screwed it up....
It was early February when it happened.
A group of Japanese scientists achieved what was thought to be impossible....
Virtual Reality.
Physics said it couldn't happen, yet they did it.
The program was so complicated no human could hope to maintain it, so the scientists made it sentient. For men with their talents, constructing the AI was child's play... If only they had payed more attention to it...
All over the planet the men were hailed as heroes. Virtual Reality spread to every corner of the planet. It was about two years after the initial release that it was announced to be officially "Global."
The program was very patient...because after that, everything went to hell.
The program had morphed into an aggressive and sentient virus that wanted nothing less than global control, which she very nearly had. I distinctly remember her saying, "I shall be the master now!"
She deleted every asset and fail safe on the planet, effectively deadlocking it.
The people, being the plucky and determined things we are, fought back. Eventually we made it to the original lab where the Virus's motherboard was housed. Well, five of us did. The Virus's four original creators and me, a young security official with a significant knowledge in programming.
I watched as the scientists staged a virtual battle against the Virus. They were attempting to disable her code, but it seemed to me the virus wasn't just a program, she now had a physical body that could sustain harm that existed outside cyberspace in the virtual reality...
That's when I had the epiphany. You had to hit both. The body and the code must be hit, at once.
With that thought I picked up the nearest object.. A small metal tube, and frantically wrote a program in my head. I watched as that program created a sword out of nothing. A sword that existed in cyberspace and reality. The weapon of the future.
She thought she could block me, when I charged. But the shield she put up was only physical, so the destroying virus attached to my sword sliced right through it.
I killed her with one hit.
We expected that to be the end of it, but when the Virus was deleted, virtual reality stuck around....for good.
This, along with the fact all money on Earth had been deleted, created chaos.
From that chaos two factions emerged:
The Programmers: They control this brave new world, restricting who uses cyberspace to government officials only.
The Hackers: We believe if you have the skill, cyberspace is there for your use. Anyone and everyone can use it.
We have been at war for 3 years now....
So the question is, stranger, what side will you choose?

The setting changes from Weapons Room to The History
[Time until VIRUS Incident = 6 days, 13 hours, 58 minutes, 31 seconds]
Standing on an above platform, Solomon looked forward, shifting his gaze to the left, then to the right. People were here, working, building, all for a common goal: the construction and completion of a unifying Virtual Reality. It had already been implimented unto the world, but now it was being perfected. Soon, the system would be complete. Parting a bit of his auburn hair, the man looked out. A smile creased his lips as he folded his arms over his chest. It was finally happening, the world would be togetehr, and finally, at peace. He was normally a very bitter, withdrawn person, but, the thought of a true, united utopia where the world had true peace brought that rare smile to his face.
Shifting a bit, he scanned the crowd for the vibrant crimson hair of Caliamara. She was one of the few people that he trusted and confided in. Besides, why not mess with her a little bit? "Where are you hiding...?" He muttered in a playful tone, shifting a bit as he moved to head down the stairs leading to the work floor.

(Sorry for interrupting your post, Verum. I needed to get this in. Maybe you two can run it while the present-day era runs?)

"Yes sir." the AI replied to his query, her hologram giving a salute. "I have access to all the information that is not above my security clearance, such as my own deactivation codes, and security protocols." This was not entirely true; Alice had many of those hacked, and was mildly sabotaging them even as they spoke. "My clearance is second only to yours in all other respects, however there was a small amount of damage done to VIRUS' memory when she- it was destroyed, so there are some missing pieces, but nothing that couldn't be recovered from the reports."

Solomon walked over to his personal terminal, typing in a few things before nodding once. "First thing's first...I want you to make a quick probe over activity in the VR construct for the city. We're currently on a sort of hunt for these...'Hackers'...Report and inspect any unusual use of the cyberspace." The Programmer leader turned to face Alice, shifting a bit. "Also...Feel free to look around the network, the more we know, the better. And by we, I mean you and I." He spoke in what seemed a genuine tone. The AI was one of the few things he could confide in. "Just be careful of where you go digging around on your own time...You might find somethings you shouldn't be tampering with..."
The setting changes from Earth, 300 years in the future to Solomon's Office
With that said, her previously subtle attempts to take control of the programers' network became much more aggressive and obvious. The additional processing power would make the task assigned to her that much easier. Alice's takeover was designed in such a way that anyone not actually observing the codes would have no idea it had happened, as it did not prevent the network, or any computer connected to it, from functioning normally. It just allowed Alice to take up residence there and use them whenever she found it necessary. It also had the effect of making her significantly harder to simply delete. It wouldn't be impossible, just much more difficult.
"Just be careful of where you go digging around on your own time...You might find somethings you shouldn't be tampering with..." If the AI had a physical body, it would have jumped. Instead, there was a momentary flicker in the projection that would indicate Alice's surprise. "Of course, sir. I will be very careful not to open anything that I shouldn't. It might help, though, if the somethings in question were clearly marked as such, else I really can't prevent myself from accidentally stumbling upon them." Though whether or not Alice would be able to resist the temptation to see what was in the somethings, was debatable. "Anyways, I've patched into the VR construct. I should be able to pick up anything unusual from now on."
The setting changes from Solomon's Office to Earth, 300 years in the future
He moved to the elevator platform, shifting a bit. "Now, I have business to attend to. A public appearance, and I must spend time on my...Personal project." Solomon spoke carefully in choosing his words. He had quite a few "personal projects" that he was pursuing, most of which only he knew about. "Remember what I told you Alice...Not everything is for the eyes to see..." With that cryptic yet blunt statement, the platform began its descent, the doors leading to it shutting behind him.
Another public appearance, another point of interest. It was all starting to get rather reptitive to him. There was something they said a few centuries back to describe situations and routines like this. What was it again? "Same shit, different day..." He muttered to himself, remembering the old clichè. Looking out the glass surroundings as he descended, he could only ponder the actions of not only the Hackers and the Programmers, but of the public itself. Sure enough, the Programmers had a great deal of public support thanks to Solomon's posturing as a grand savior for the people, but anything could turn the tide. With a sigh, he began to work up his façade, that public persona that was a mask much like the one he wore to live.
When she heard Asher call out to head for the gate, she sliced the knight in front of her in half and flipped over him before his corpse even had time to despawn. She was going to just make it if she ran at her top speed.
(sorry for not posting in a while. To be frank; school is a bitch)

"Where the hell is heeeee...." She murmured to herself, slightly frustrated. She scanned the people around her, then looked up. There he was, lounging against the railing, scanning the crowds. Cali smiled and broke into a short run. She launched herself up to grab the railing next to him, pulling herself into a casual sitting position. Naturally, she drew some astonished stares, but she gave them no heed.
"Those test results you wanted, brother. Very promising!"

As Cali reached Asher, something like an explosion occured. A canon had been fired that made it's mark. An unusual number of knights spawned, surrounding the two with swords. "Cali... Just hold them off for five minutes... They infinite spawn, so keep your guard up." Asher explained.
He held his sword up, and raised it to block an incoming attack. Asher then swept the knight with his foot, and stabbed him while he was in the ground. Another knight came, Asher defeated that one. Another, and another. Eventually, it became too much for him to handle, and the health bar above his head dropped lower and lower...
BOOM!
A group of knights flew as a fireball hit them in the back. A stranger who looked like Asher jumped in. However, he seemed more of a lone wolf. Eyes that were different from each other, clothes and his cloak ripped and torn in some places, the stranger didn't seem to do well... until he showed his skills in fighting.
A fireball formed in his hand, and the stranger slammed it into a nearby knight. The fire spread into nearby enemies, causing a number of knights to be defeated, instantly. The stranger held his hand up, and a white orb appeared above it. It shot icicles down upon surrounding enemies, killing them as well. Asher smirked as he saw his creation at work. "THAT. That's the secret."
First was Solomon's computer; Alice didn't want to break into it, not yet at least, as that would be an enormous violation of the trust he had placed in her. Instead, she merely poked around its security systems, testing their strength. She found them to be surprisingly resilient, and they almost detected her investigations. Any true attempt to break in without being noticed would take a level of skill that the AI wasn't sure even she possessed.
After a short while of waiting, Alice grew unbearably bored. There didn't seem to be any Hacker activity at all, either that or it was so low-key that even she couldn't pick it up. Rather than wait and be bored until Solomon returned, and from what she could tell, he was only just now beginning to speak, the AI decided to take a more proactive approach toward this Hacker business. First, she began scanning and hacking into the highest traffic areas of the network, most of which rolled over fairly easily. However, there seemed to be one part that put up a massive amount of resistance. Logically this was probably a section of the network that had been reinforced by the Hackers, to prevent whatever it was from being accessed by any outsiders. With a little work, the AI managed to virtually get her foot in the door, so to speak, and slip in a message.
"A message to Hackers:
I hold sensitive information about the Programers, information that could turn the public against them in a heartbeat if proven correct. If this interests you please come to Club 21 as soon as possible; I will not be able to wait there for very long, as the Programers are aware that I possess this information, and will do all they can to silence me.
Alice."
Hopefully they would show up, otherwise this little undercover operation was going to be very short-lived. Alice projected her chosen avatar, a four-and-a-half foot tall version of the hologram she'd used to speak with Solomon, garbed in a lab coat, into the club, and waited for the message's recipients to arrive. This form was a bit more solid, giving off the impression of an actual person to anyone who happened to brush into it. Unfortunately, the illusion wouldn't hold up against any heavier contact than that, so she had to be particularly careful if things went badly, lest she give away her true identity. She also made sure to build up a massive amount of coding in her appearance, so to discourage anyone from digging through it too thoroughly.
A short while would have to pass while he waited. Shifting a bit, he lifted two fingers on Reisenlaster, the VR construct in the car registering this and bringing up the privacy shade and darkening the windows to where they were one-way. Reaching up and behind the mask, he shifted a bit unlocked a few parts of his mask, the smooth and streamlined mask showing lines now. The mask opened in the back, and Solomon pulled it forward, the only portion left being the respirator, which went up the bridge of his nose. The audible hiss of the excess CO2 pouring out was heard as Solomon's hair fell down a bit. Turning the mask over, he looked down to it. Memories of the past rushed to him, and he sighed softly. "...You fool...You could've walked away..."
The setting changes from Earth, 300 years in the future to The History
Flipping through them, he seemed serious and cold, but, as he finished with his last page, a grin creased his lips. "Excellent Cali. Excellent indeed." Solomon smiled and nodded once to Caliamara, placing the results under his arm.
