In this dystopia, Angels have fallen from the heavens, demons are free to roam and reek havoc and every other creature of the night follows suit. What happens to the streets of Shade City when the rules are, there aint no rules?

Introduction

The 1960's is when it all went down; people stopped talking about God and started talking about the power of man... the only true power is what they called it.

I watched them for as long as I can remember- It's the one good thing about being ageless; we can all watch society rip itself apart and place bets on how long we think one politician will last before another takes over and makes the same mistakes. We can bet on how far religious folk will go to preserve the little faith the city has left... we can even bet on how many times they'll have to betray their faith in order to sustain it. Martyrs. They are always the worst kind of people...

I was expected to be a martyr once; didn't suit me. I'm too selfish and too fearful... too aware. To be a martyr you gotta be one of two things; an angel or a freaking idiot.

Let's just say I aint no idiot... but I wouldn't call myself an angel no more either.

S'pose the wings and the pretty face and the strange tattoos makes me an angel... but put it this way; a man has the power to create life and destroy it... don't make him God, does it. I'm as much an angel as your average Joe is the Holy father.

Nah, things got bad when politicians didn't work no more. People started turning to more reliable sources of power... the supernatural kind, yah know?

Only problem is, by then every creature of the night had already stuck their middle finger up to the mortals and their petty, pathetic democracies... that's when it got real messy. Dangle a mouse over a den of starving lions and you just see what happens. Thats what we all were- starving lions. The humans were gonna pay big time. They did...

Now, humans are nothing more than pets. Law is different on every street corner and aint nobody gonna say otherwise if someone decides you're a problem.

In a world where sin is law and law is sin... whats a person gonna do?

Tell you what I do... I let Shade city have 'em... where your soul goes when someone pops ya... that don't concern me no more.

Way I see it, when I fell, I fell past earth and hit hell.

Welcome to Shade City.

The sense of unrest was flowing through the air. A feeling that always seemed to inhabit this place. With cold tense air flowing through the streets, it was the sort of place you didn't want to find yourself being alone in.

In the distance a street light was flickering vaguely. In the mostly darkened and quiet street it was easy to spot, as all other lights had seemed to go out. Beneath it stood the shadow of a man comfortably leaning his back against the pole with his arms crossed over his chest, and an undisturbed look on his face. He had the appearance of someone who knew that the streets were dangerous, but just didn't care. Rather it was as though he fitted right into the whole scene of the shady street. Next to him a claymore was balanced nicely with its sharp end stuck in the street concrete. It was a shining form of silver, so sharp that from the right angle it was almost impossible to see the blade itself. It was there to be sold, and the man was waiting for the buyer who had contacted him the night before.

She crouched beyond the flickering circle of dim light offered by the street lamo. The shadows hung thick around her so that she appeared to be only a pair of glowing eyes in the night. She lifted a clawed hand to her mouth, her thin lips parted and a dark tongue slid out between glistening white teeth; the fear could still be tasted in the red liquid that coated her talons, even as it cooled. Her tail flicked back and forth with agitation as hunger fought against disgust. After a moment she turned her head away and wiped her talons across the stone by her feet, causing a brief spark.
Deanna Brair stood quickly and the shadows began to fall away. Horns and claws and tail receded, and she drew the shadows over her paling flesh lest they did the same. As brown hair spilled to her shoulders the shadows took shape until Deanna stood, once again in her own skin, with the dark night-gown draped over her body. Its sleeves were long and loose but the silken material didn't even fall to her knees. She hurried to pull it closed around her and tied the sash securely at her waist.
"Really? A night-gown?" she muttered to the cool night air. "We couldn't manage to a manifest a trenchcoat or something?"
Probably. But this is more entertaining.
"We're stuck in the middle of the redlight district and you want us to walk home in this!?"
You chose to make us this form again. Your fear. In that form we could have stepped through the shadows and been home, where this would not have been out of place. He was a predator. If we had not spilled his blood he would have spilled someone else's. That is our compromise, is it not?
"You're just hoping that another predator will mistake us for his prey, so that we may rip his heart from his body."
He didn't reply and but Deanna felt his bloodlust answer an affirmative. She sighed. Three years and they were still having the same old debates.
Gingerly she stepped down from the sidewalk with barefeet onto the cold rough surface of the road, attempting to avoid broken glass as she crossed the street in the dim lamplight. Her stubborness meant it was a good walk home ahead of her.

Raina, commonly called Kink, sat bneath the eaves of Tallow's End, a brothel well past its prime. Her human form, a slim, seductive teen somewhere around the age of 19, was smoking a cigarette and watching the empty, lamp lit streets for any sign of life. She wasn't hoping for much, just the promise of skin, sacrifice, and thick scarlet blood.
"Kink!"
Raina glanced up. Her pimp, Pierre Standish, stood in the doorway.
"I gotta fuckin' buisness to run an' I ain't waitin' on cigarette gals to finish their fuckin' joints. Get your anorexic little ass in here before I do it for ya."
Raina pulled herself to her feet.
"There's a man in the lobby. Says he's looking for ya. This better be good for buisness and not some social call."
"I sure hope so," she muttered, dropping her cigarette and crushing it under her heel
As she moved to enter the establishment, her eyes caught sight of a man leaning beneath the streetlamp across the street. She hadn't noticed him before yet she had the unsettling feeling that he had been watching her.
"I don' have all night, Kink!"
"Yeah," Raina muttered before following her pimp into the brothel.

As the black-haired girl on the other side of the street stood up from the ground where she had been sitting, he noticed her icy blue eyes quickly sending glances his way. Caught off guard and hoping to not be seen he lowered his eyes to the pavement in front of him. Keeping his eyes in one place, he waited until he could hear the door slam shut behind the girl, and the voice of the man die down.
"Stupid," he whispered angrily to himself. Being seen was the last thing on his mind, especially during this hour of the night.
He leaned the back of his head gently against the light pole and took a deep breath of cold air. A raindrop fell gently on the tip of his nose. It was time, wasn't it? But no one was here. With a slow movement he grabbed the handle of the sword next to him, and lifted it up. The rules were clear. If they did not make it on time, there would be no deal. He took a last glimpse of the building where the girl from before had disappeared, then walked as silently away from the street as when he had come.

Carla sits in the corner of a dark allyway. She sits on a wooden box, picking her fingernails humming a tune. "We are the wolves, the shadows of the night. We are the wolves, Warriors of the dark." She sits up and jumps of the block. A single lamp post light flickers. It swings in the night, causing a eerie scrathing sound. Scratch....scratch...scratch.....
She walks down the ally, until she emerges from the dark corner. Her beautiful eyes seem to shine in the dark.

Deanna kept to the quiter streets as she made her way through the city, daring to take dark empty alleyways rather than havin to interact with anyone who might be loitering around the bars and brothels. Still, it was night time which meant that there always seemed to be somone lurking around every corner. So many seemes to have a rather nocturnal sleeping pattern. Not that she could talk, she'dbe lucky of she managed to get more than a couple of hours sleep tonight th e way things were going.
Every now and then someone would call from a doorway, offering some sort of service, or simply a crude comment. Deanna kept her gaze directly ahead and didn't falter in her stride.
Keeping to this method she passed a couple making out againt the alleyway wall. As she did the couple paused, one stayed partially slumped aginst the wall pouting at the intermission but the other, a demon, moved instaed towards Dianna, reaching for her arm. Deanna snatched her arm away, pulled her robe more securely across her front and continued walking.
"Please," the demon called.
Deanna hesitated then stopped. She continued staring ahead, but she listened to every step as the demon approached. It came to stand in front of her and peered at her face with its scarlett eyes. It circled her once then stood beside her and very slowly leant forward until Deanna could feels its breath on the side of her neck. It inhaled deeply through its nose then murmured, "You don't smell right."
"And you smell like rotten eggs," Deanna said plainly, turning her head to glare at the demon.
The demon pulled back like it had been slapped.
"Under the musk and spice of whatever your wearing, under the sweat and dirt and whatever else on your
skin, you smell like brimstone, and we outrank you."
Realisation dawned on the demon's face and suddenly it tipped its head back and laughed.
"I see now," the demon grinned. "Shared accomodation. Tough gig, brother. I won't challenge your statement tonight, only because I have better things to do." The demon's eyes turned lustistily back to its companion. "Goodnight to you both."
Deanna picked up her stride again and continued out the other side of the alley without a backwards glance.

We rank higher.
"Naturally."
We would rank even higher if you were more cooperative.
"Not going to happen. Besides rank isn't a bodycount its about potential. And potentially, we'd definately
kick ass. That's why we weren't challenged."
Silence.
"Stop brooding," Deanna scolded. They were only a couple of blocks from home now.
Silence.
"Oh, for goodness sakes-" Then she smelt it.
Angel's blood.
"Yeah..." It wasn't an uncommon smell in this city and usually she just ignored it, but it could still be distracting. It was one of the only things she appreciated about having him around, because had she been only human she probably wouldn't pick it up. Deanna couldn't say exactly what it smelt like, except that to her it was good.
Smells better spilled on the earth.
"No. Shut up. Where's it coming from?"

Ren folds his arms and sits crossed legged on the side of the road. He twiddles his fingers, and feels his canines sharpen on his tounge. He glances around, looking for any sorce of light apart from the flickering lamp. He stares at it. Every time it screetched on its rusty pole, it would make him shiver. It would stop the same time, every time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carla walks across the road with out looking. A car screetched past her. She looked at it, her eyes turning into slits and turned into a wolf. She stood in frontof the car, and it bashed into her. The car seemed to fold up like a scrunched up piece of paper. She has no scratches or bruises on her. She appeared to be made of steel. She barked and backed up, then ran into the dark ally way once more.

Raina stared at the cieling, a cigarette clasped between her fingers. A man (perhaps demon though there was no real way to tell) was nipping at her neck, pleading with her in hurried, hushed tones. As he began unbottoning her blouse she shoved him off with an unamused grunt of disgust. She watched him flop to the floor, moaning slightly. Raina stepped over him and slid into her black heels.
"Kink!" Pierre shouted, "what the hell are you doing?"
Raina opened the door and announced boldly, "I've had enough. I'm leaving!"
She crushed her cigarette between her thin fingers and dropped the remains on the carpet. Pierre rushed up the delapitated staircase and caught her by the arm. He gave her a rough shake.
"Who do you think you are!" Pierre screeched.
Raina pulled away and brushed herself off daintily. She warned him, "don't make me do it, Pierre."
Pierre scoffed.
"You are a child, Kink. You are playing a child's game. You are no angel, no demon, you're nothing but a fucking hooker, bitch!"
Raina shook her head sadly.
"I'm sorry," she mused, "i didn't want to do this."
She grabbed Pierre's lapels and dragged him against her. She forced his lips to hers and unleashed the vemon hidden within her pearly whites. Pierre struggled, but as the venom worked its way into his system, he slumped against her. Raina let him slide to the floor.
"Nothing but a fucking hooker?" She laughed, kicking the dead pimp's body.

"Lucille, sweet'art." The woman looked over at the hand on her bare shoulder, a slow smile gracing brown lips. "Riel." She responded, her lovely green eyes quickly scanned his figure. The tall, dark and handsome type, aside what she thought were adorable freckles on his smooth skin. His fingers slid down her arm to her red fingernails before taking them gently in his hands, a thumb rubbing the light band of skin around her ring finger. "Junior know you ain't wearing it?" He glanced at her before she laughed, a bit louder than expected, deep and joyful.

"He told me to take it off."

Riel tsked, clicking his tongue. "Lil fucker..." He dropped her hand, before bending to place a slow trail of kisses from her collarbone to her ear. She reached for him but by then he had already pulled back, standing at his full height, disappointed. "Downstairs love. Don't let 'arley see your hands you 'ear?" He turned away, revealing a pair of ashy wings folded neatly against his back. She scoffed quietly, then paused, before the familiar clicking of heels began to fade into the distance. Eventually, he followed.

As he neared, the noise of laughter and occasional shouting grew louder, until he opened the final door, revealing a smoky den. All eyes were on him as he stopped at each table, giving both the men and women a kiss on a cheek. Riel was all smiles, reveling in the attention as he made genuine pleasantries with every guest. One young man, not much older than 16, instinctively reeled away from the affectionate gesture when it came to be his turn. Riel was barely offended, pulling an arm around the man's waist as he drew him close.

"What's your name boy?"
"Julian." He answered a bit quick, and he knew this, a bit disturbed still at the distance between them. His companion, a beautiful girl with courageous eyes, sat in slight awe. Clearly, this was the first time they had seen what was once an angel.

"Cold aren't ya." The boy froze, unable to prevent fear from reaching him. Still so young was he, and so young he would stay. "Just 'ave to ask for what you want, love." Riel gently guided him forward, as they returned up the stairs. Intoxicated, the young man did not struggle, and so eager was he for the blood. Just when they were out of sight from the other guests, he went for it, fangs digging into the silky skin. He then saw, saw it all: the beginnings of earth, early humans, the first of his kind. It came to him fragmented, as though time did not flow linearly. Finally, there was a bright light. Unable to bear the brilliance, Julian pushed Riel away, so full of fear. And not of the light, no, it was Riel's own that he felt. The angel smiled, beautifully so, even with the smallest drop of blood still running down his neck. He seemed pleased, awfully amused.

"I always give to those I love, and I won't tell your human either."

Somehow, Julian felt as though he had fallen into an endless trap.

Deanna sniffed at the air. The scent of angel's blood mixed with the other smells of the street. Filth, alcohol, sex... she was beginning to debate whether or not to simply continue home.
But the sudden fear quickly ended the debate. Not her own fear but someone else's nearby. Deanna shuddered with pleasure, breathing deeply and rolling the new scent over her tongue. He stirred, unable to ignore this, even miffed as he was at her. He remained silent but his desire fuelled her own. There would be no going home yet.
She turned, fixing on the source. Deanna stalked towards the building with single-minded purpose. She couldn't tell if it was hunger or simply curiosity. That was the problem with having more than just you at home in your head. She hoped the door wasn't locked; using a little more-than-human-stregth would meant it wouldn't stop her, but she doubted the owner would appreciate the lock being forced.

Inside Deanna navigated her way through the building without running into anyone. All the noise seemed to be coming from one area. At the sound of sultry laughter her resolve started to fail her. She stood in front of a closed door dressed in only her short black robe and suddenly didn't want to proceed any furthur.
But, the angel's blood! The fear!
"Oh, you talking to me again?" she muttered at his protest. While the lure of fear was tempting, when she could so easily inspire it in her prey there seemed to be easier ways of obtaining it than walking into a room of strangers barely dressed. She'd spent enough time in demon-form tonight to really consider that option. What's more, she had no desire to spill more blood tonight, especially an angel's.
"I just want to go to bed. We have fed enough tonight."

He gasped, throwing his head with a force that would snap a human's neck. Carefully, the young man lapped the area clean and healed the wound with a drop of his blood, his own bleeding lip quickly healing. Wide-eyed and nervous, Julian was lead back to the room to rejoin the rest of the guests, his conscience heavy with secrets. Despite losing blood, Riel was as radiant as ever, his steps ever so confident. He disliked deals with vampires, but they were one of the easiest to sway. Old or young, they were all slaves to his blood.

As they descended the steps, Riel could sense a familiar malice. It was a human kind, one who had experienced Lucifer's flames, whose humanity it was wrung from. A demon. Heartlessly, the angel guided the vampire forward, unconcerned with his fate. What he wished now was to fulfill his curiosity, for a demon was not all he sensed. Having received the dark gift not long ago, Julian was unaware of the identity of scantily clad female before the door. Distracted by fear, the vampire merely moved past the woman and entered, avoiding direct contact. Riel on the other hand lingered, his hand moved to clasp her shoulder in order to bring their bodies closer.

"Can't go in 'ere dressed like that love."

Deanna stepped aside as the cold young boy shied away from her on his way into the next room.
The other one caught her by suprise as a warm hand settled on her shoulder, "Can't go in 'ere dressed like
that love."
"Yeah, I..." she looked up, managing to frown and blush at the same time, at the face of angel. Literally; deep brown eyes, wavy hair, gorgeous freckled features and full lips aside - a pair of folded ashen wings shifted at his back and something that wasn't her was roiling and hissing silently inside her. He was a damn angel.
"I was just... just considering heading home to change," Deanna finished. She'd come here, she'd seen the angel, it was probably time to leave now before things got messy. His hand was still on her shoulder though and he was standing kinda close, she dropped her eyes and tugged at her robe.
Bloody angel.
Deanna ignored Toby's grumbling, but stopped fidgeting and stood a little straighter.
"Won't your young friend be missing you?" she inquired, raising her eyebrows with a smirk. She'd hate to have some teenage boy getting up in her face about keeping his angel companion from him.

Riel returned a smile, enjoying the bit of colour on the girl's cheeks. Humans always did look their best when flushed, and it always fascinated the spiritual creature to see physical reactions. Instinctively he pulled her closer, embracing the warmth of another, his naturally affectionate nature showing.

"Lemme show you a little somethin' first." He replied, fingers sliding down her arm to reach her waist as he gestured her to move forward. He wished to keep girl in his company, for how else was he to find out what she was, and how this came to be. Most possession resulted in complete control, and to see a case that differed, the angel could not be more intrigued. Riel was always curious about demons, those who were once human or those descended from Lucifer, the first of the fallen. The guardian did not know he would regret the decision not to join them..did not know that fear would both keep and cast him away.

Dully, Riel could sense a bit of communication from the demon within, but without the light of heaven, he was greatly weakened and was unable to understand. At least, not without a few more souls. The girl spoke again, inquiring about the vampire boy as curious humans do. Riel glanced down, but did not rest in his guiding of her body as he lead her up the stairs.

"We 'ave a mutual understand him and I."

When they reached the top of the stairs, a modest set of double doors greeted them, opening slowly as they approached. It seemed as though they were automatic, but there were no metal arms above doors, merely one angel's intent. Inside, was a single king sized bed littered with decorative pillows and silky sheets, a large bay window under which was an area to lounge, and an already lit fireplace with accompanying furniture made of the finest mahogany. If one were to look to the sides, they would see two large dressers side by side and a statue of a blurry faced angel in a state of frozen flight.

"Lemme show you a little somethin' first."

Uh-huh. Yep. Sure. Distracted by their closeness and his hands sliding down her arms, Deanna's mind walked out on her momentarily, and when he guided her forward she complied. This one was very different from other angels she'd met.
But then the majority of her angel experiences was with one of her regular customers at the coffee shop. With his flowing white ensemble, porcelein face, and holy-er-than-thou attitude that self-rightous bigot seemed to fit the angel stereotype. He made a point of telling her that in his own opinion her immortal soul was surely condemned to hell, everytime he accepted his regular medium white chamomile tea with sugar from her. Sansriel was an ass. He rarely tipped.

Sansriel is a child, Deanna. This one is not. We should leave.
It was odd for Toby to address her by name. It was usually 'we', or if he was partcularly annoyed 'you' maybe followed by 'foolish girl'. He seemed agitated. And whereas five minutes ago she was all for leaving and he'd protested it now seemed to be the other way around. She ignored him.

Up a flight of stairs and through a pair of double doors the angel led her to a lavishly decorated room. The fire caught her attention first; the dancing light and gentle crackling of the flames. At the sight of the large bed however Deanna's compliance faltered, she hesitated on the edge of the room. She rubbed the tattoo on her arm for comfort without really thinking about it. Slipping out from the warmth the angel's arms, with some relunctance, she went to the window. The glass was cool under her fingertips; the shadowy streets looked up from below.

"It's a lovely room," she said politely, turning her gaze back towards the angel.

It is possible to delete a character if you wanted to; in character management via Settings>My character. Sorry for saying if you are already aware of this. :)

Re: Shadow streets

Hey! is it ok if you drop Shard Kellings? It is exactly the same as my other profile Ren. Becasue i thought it had a invalid name, so i changed it. So would it be ok if everyone just ignore Shard

Re: Shadow streets

Glad to see so many new characters showing up. Yes, you can still join the rp... I'm uncertain what the limit will be, this really is just a free going rp. It seems to be working well however. The rp is set in the present time, the 1960's is simply when everything happened, however, because of this, as you can imagine, Shade City hasnt developed at all... it's like a crumbling, decaying time capsule.
I will be making my character shortly so will see you all in SC.

Re: Shadow streets

Hey Zombicide93

You'd have to wait for ReturnToSender's answer to be sure, but probably yes. I mean, there wasn't a limit to the number of players or specific roles to fill in the intro. So submit a charcacter and cross your fingers. It'd be good to see some more people's posts soon. :)

Re: Shadow streets

Any openings still avaliable?

Re: Shadow streets

Question: Is this RP based in the 1960's? Or is that just when the trouble started and it's actually now present-day sort of thing?

Re: Shadow streets

Pardon the errors in the app, using my phone. This is Roth for anyone interested.

Yeah, your character was fine and has been accepted :) I am in the process of making my character. He is the one who was speaking in the into and he's a fallen angel named Seven. He's sort of Guardian of Shade City.

Re: Shadow streets

I've submitted a character, I hope she is acceptable. Will you be having a character ReturnToSender?

Re: Shadow streets

You are free to do as you wish with your characters here. I want this roleplay to develop it's own set of personalities and it's own pecking order. Lets see who makes it to the top of the food chain, shall we?

Re: Shadow streets

I like it too, and I think this is just a roleplay where you create a character, not follow the guidelines of another. In that case, I' really excited because there aren't many that let you be this free with your characters

Re: Shadow streets

love the roleplay but what characters are there going to be?

Shadow streets

This is the auto-generated OOC topic for the roleplay "Shadow streets"
