Shinigami:

You're a typical human living life day to day...until you die, that is. Suddenly, you're in the underworld, or hell, as you've learned to fear since you were a child. However, it's a lot nicer than you would have expected from a place where your soul is meant to be tourtured for eternity.

Then, you meet him. He goes by many names, of course; The Devil, Satan, Lucifer...he tells you to call him Luce. For an all-powerful, supposedly 'King of Darkness'...he seems like a chill guy. You sit awkwardly on one side of the room, (cause seriously, are you dead, or what?) and wait without saying a word. He sits at his desk and grumbles away about paperwork and 'all the damn dead people.'

He looks up at you with a friendly smile, and he sounds completely normal, nonchalant and...kind of uncaring as he explains that you've died. (But are you surprised? He deals with dead people every day.)
When you build up the courage and ask why you're in hell, he shrugs and says that he got to you before God did. He explains that he's short on staff, and he needs your help.

At first, you object whole-heartedly. Why would you kill another human being? You were a decent (or not-so decent) person when you were alive, and you weren't going to become a murderer just because you died. But then it dawns upon you. You have 3 choices; Either rot in hell, go to heaven, or live out the sick fantasy you've always had brewing in the back of your mind when you were alive. Taking someone elses life...

You accept.

You meet a group of new recruits such as yourself, and you're all forced to undergo a training period, where you go off into the human world everyday, kill the people you're assigned to kill, and then you return back to the underworld before dinner.

Congratulations, you've just made a deal with the devil.

The only rule Satan has is:
Don't fall in love with the humans.

Humans:

You're an average human, hustling and bustling with everyday life. But sometimes...when you're walking down the street, on your way home from school, or at home...you feel a set of eyes watching you. And it's not just paranoia. Whoever is watching you, wants you to know they're there. You're weirded the fuck out, right? You start becoming overly cautious. But sometimes with caution comes danger.

It happens. A horrible accident in which you should have died occurs. But you don't. And you know something, or someone, stopped you from dying.

You just have no idea who...or what.
