Misai is probably one of the most kind-hearted people you will ever come across. She has always been the girl who strives to brighten the day of everyone she sees that has a frown. No matter what her mood is, she will put her troubles aside to help other people. Misai is also quite charming, though she doesn't notice. She is always the center of every boy's affections, however, it seems to go over her head. She has never had a boyfriend and actually thinks that boys don't like her in that way because they're always too nervous to approach her. Despite her positive exterior, however, Misai struggles with self-esteem issues. Outwardly, she appears confident and positive; always wearing a smile on her face, but on the inside, she constantly has to fight to not put herself down. She was hoping that SOA could help her gain confidence.

Misai Kotoba grew up in a small town with a very normal life. She lives with her mother, Urabe, her father, Taketo, and her 10 year-old twin brother and sister, Suki and Yoshino. When Misai was 7, she and her parents moved to a new town, as they needed a bigger house because of the twins. She was often made fun of in her old town because she had very large ears. Now, however, they have seemingly gotten smaller because she has grown, but that part of her past, she has never forgotten. Her positive exterior masks the war she fights inside with herself. Misai can barely look in the mirror anymore because all she sees are flaws.
Now a junior in high school, Misai has accumulated a very large circle of friends. There is no one in the school who dislikes her because there is nothing bad to say about her. She's always baking cookies for others, giving her lunch to those who need it, cheering people up if they are down, as well as giving the best advice around. However, Misai finds herself without a boyfriend. She has never had one, in fact. This is due to her appearance, as it intimidates the boys in her school. However, Misai just thinks that all the boys think of her as "just a friend" otherwise, they would have asked her out by now.
On a whim, Misai decided to go out and buy her first ever video game. The game happened to be the most-talked about Sword Art Online. Hoping this would raise her self-esteem somehow, she bought it, ran home, and read the box. It was interesting. Never before did Misai ever have an interest in a game. She was more into books, but this game looked interesting to her. Besides, everyone was talking about it, so it had to be good, right? Maybe, just maybe, she would become a whole new person. "I'll just play for a little while. It can't hurt, right?"...
Boy, was she wrong...
