Introduction
The water gently spilled around my feet, making me colder than what I already was. I take another step into the ocean. The coarse sand between my toes are unimportant, enough to be ignored, but still the sensation will stay with me.
Another step.
My jeans cling to my skin as if it longs to be it. My shirt is yet unaware of the dangers that are in store for it. The sharks might get me if the water doesn’t.
It’s strange how you start thinking of life when you are walking to the end that you had set out for yourself. How you think of the people you left behind and how it wasn’t your story you will be telling, but someone else’s.
Someone you might love, or someone you might not know at all.
His name is simple and easy to remember, his heart always pure and his voice caring yet frightening at times. Life cannot be easy when you are him or when you are with him.
Now, as my shoulders are soaked in the salty water and my nose just touches the familiar scent, I remember the day I met the demon.
It was late afternoon, June. The sun was shining in through the large windows of the cafe where I sat looking out at the world and sipping on a cup of coffee.
“Delilah , close the doors, we’re locking up soon.” My mother called from behind the counter. She was putting the blueberry muffins away and eyeing the people that were walking out of the cafe late.
She liked closing early on Saturdays, it was the day that she visited the graveyard. I got up out of my chair, leaving my coffee behind and ignoring the shadow that walked past the window. After unclipping the doors I slowly swung them into place. One by o...
“Are you closing already?” The shoe in the door asked with a calm and confident tone. I looked up at him slowly, noticing the dark eyes and strange hairstyle first.
I turned my head, my long hair falling where it wishes. My mother already had her apron off and was standing and looking at me impatiently.
She threw one of her hands in the air, noticing a rather pleading look in my eyes. “I’m going, Delilah , you lock up when this...” Her hand waved at the air towards the guy as I pulled the door away and he stepped inside. “...Guy leaves.” She finished her sentence with her thick accent and gave me a smile.
I closed the doors with ease, knowing someone always stays late in the kitchen. I won’t be alone with a stranger.
“Coffee please, two sugars and no milk.” The guy said with an alluring smile as he sat down next to where I sat.
The water is actually nice now. It’s soothing and promises to rid me of all my evils – like it’ll cleanse me. My hair was completely wet and floating in the water like seaweed. Whatever happens to me, weather the sharks get me or the water, I will still regret opening the door to the dark eyed guy.
‘Smile and nod’ like mother always taught me to do when I was nervous and didn’t know what to say.
“Dee, why aren’t you going with your mother? And who is that?” The boy that works for my mother, Jonathan, asked rather curtly. He had a frown on his forehead and his hands on his hips. Johnathan has had his eye on me since we moved here. He’s my age.
“He came in late, she said I should lock up.” My ‘squeaky voice’ explained without allowing my lips to form a smile. He thinks I don’t know that he has liked me for nearly a year now.
“You from around here?” I asked the guy as I set his coffee down for him and took in my seat. My coffee was still warm, a sip proved it. He turned his lean, muscular frame to me and smiled his charming smile, one that would become too familiar.
“I am, yes. How about you?” He returned the question as he searched me with his eyes.
“No...” A simple reply.
“Didn’t think so.” He said as he took a sip of his coffee, pursing his lips and slowly blinking to say that he was enjoying it.
Delilah looked down at her clothes. She did look a little fancy for this plain town. That made the guy chuckle.
“I’m Alexander, nice to meet you Delilah.” Alexander said as he extended his hand to me and smiled. His leather jacket creaked under his arms as he moved.
Again I smiled and nodded, mentally cursing my mother for practically shouting my name.
Alexander started a conversation about the old libraries here, then went on to tell me about the history of the town. It was pretty gory and he seemed to be withholding some information.
“Dee...” A voice broke into our conversation. My hair had fallen over my face and Alexander was about to reach in and move it out of the way.
My head turned to look at Jonathan who stood a few feet away from us, his hands on his hips again. I could see that he had gotten lost in his work.
“It’s late, you should go home.” He said sternly, furrowing his brows.
I nodded and got up, Alexander following me. After opening the doors again he stepped out and eyed Jonathan who was keeping a watchful eye on me.
“Will I see you again?” he asked as he shrugged his hands into his pockets. Alexander seemed to be standing up straight permanently, making me wish I had a better posture.
I thought for a moment, I barely knew him but it was hard to resist him. “You can come to the cafe again on Wednesday if you want to go to a party with me?” I suggested with an excited smile.
He hesitated before eventually smiling too. “Sure.” He said before he turned and walked away.
‘Demons’
The ‘Demon’ does not really refer to actual demons; it is more of a description of what the people are like. They have more anger than usual people, causing them to be more edgy and upset about things. Their eyes are dark and tend to go completely black when they feed or when they are really angry.
Yes, feed. These creatures are similar to vampires, they feed on blood. But they are not made, they are born and they do not have fangs, just really, really sharp teeth. They can walk in the sunlight and are not as sensitive to it, though their eyes tend to hurt if they don’t wear sunglasses. They can live on human food, but they need blood to survive as well. They have heightened senses and are somewhat faster than normal humans. They cannot usually control people’s minds, but are said to infiltrate your dreams and to then have influence on it. There are a few, very rare cases where demons have actually succeeded in ‘telling’ people what to do, they then followed through exactly and later explained that it felt like they were possessed or that they would cause their loved ones to get hurt if they didn’t do what they were told. Demons are somewhat immortal as they stop aging at some point but they are still not as hard to kill. The easiest way to get rid of them is decapitation. Small wounds will heal within days, but larger wounds will cause death. They can sometimes, depending on how old they are, move objects with their minds (Telekinesis). Some older than 500 years have even taught themselves how to levitate or fly.
Demons are often hunted due to draining humans of their blood or terrorising towns and villages.

"What kind of drink is this? It smells strange.” Alexander looked up at Delilah, biting his lip nervously. “It’s a... new thing that uh. Trying it...” He tried to explain as he scratched the back of his head.
Alexander dropped his hand and looked at Delilah with a serious face. He had no idea what to say or do now. This looked funny, she caught him drinking blood...
“I was um... a little upset about earlier.” He tried explaining, pursing his lips and balling his fists a little. Alexander was angry at himself for being so careless.
“Hmm.” Alexander hummed when he felt a little pressured to answer. Did he really have to tell her now? Maybe, he’ll see what she says first. Maybe he could use the time travelling vampire joke again. Instead of speaking, Alexander walked over to Delilah and took the drink from her. He put it back on the windowsill and took her hands in his. “Your mother would kill me if she heard about you finding such things in my room.” He hinted at the alcohol, but the blood would make sense too. Alexander's hint was nervously stated yet there was a playful tone to it.
(That's exactly where he left it, sorry I forgot to add that. Haha.)

Having been distracted by her thoughts, she didn't realize that he had approached until he pulled the drink from her grasp. Her curiosity screamed at her, but when he took her hands, all of the curiosity over the drink transferred to curiosity over him. "My mom would kill you if she heard about me being in your room," Delilah said. "Besides, your relationship with alcohol has nothing to do with me," she added, trying to calm his nervous heart.
His closeness bothered her, but not in the bad way. The animal-like instinct to be closer to him clawed at her essence; it was extremely difficult for her to keep herself from acting on that impulse. Trying to distract herself, she leaned her head back against the wall and looked out of the window, admiring the stars. "My mom doesn't dislike you," she said, though it was more to reassure herself than him. "Jonathan doesn't like you, but that's a given. He's jealous, that little brat," she murmured, a little affection in her voice towards her friend.

The car keys were laying on a table by the door, where it always was. After grabbing them, Alexander walked into the garage and opened the large doors with a button. His car was nothing special, but it was nice to him. A 1974 bright red Chevrolet caprice. Alexander didn’t bother to look behind him if Delilah was following or not, but he opened the passenger door for her in any way, waiting for her to get in. He didn’t feel like walking now.
The air felt cold and uninviting, but luckily Alexander was always warm and comfortable. He smiled a small and rushed smile at Delilah as his thoughts about the weather strangely took priority in his mind.

Suddenly realizing that he was waiting for her, she put down the glass. "What the heck," she murmured, wildly looking around for somewhere to wipe off her hand. Fearing that she would stain something expensive, she reluctantly wiped it on the inside of her collar, knowing it would be concealed. The brunette quietly hurried through the house, finding him in the garage. Seeing his expression made her feel a little down. Delilah weaved around him and hopped into the passenger's seat, gazing down at her hands.
Her mom would be waiting for her, she reminded herself. And she could see Alexander some other day, if she hadn't already scared him away with her tender personality. She swallowed down a sigh. Hopefully, she hadn't. She liked him. She didn't want those feelings to have to be thrown away.

When Alexander turned the corner into the street that Delilah’s house was on, he looked at her and gave her a brief smile again. He really didn’t want the moments with her to be over already, but he had no choice. There was a light on at Delilah’s house, and the paranoid Alexander was sure that someone was watching them from inside. They probably belonged to a pack. He would be dead if they belonged to a pack.
“Would you like me to walk you to the door?” Alexander asked politely as he looked into Delilah’s eyes. Why did they have to be so inviting? He looked away quickly and back at the burning lights.

It took a surprisingly short time for them to reach her house. Inwardly, she was relieved that he had taken her home - he obviously knew this town better than her. They sat in front of the house for a couple of moments, silent hanging over them. His politeness didn't surprise her, but the intensity of his eyes did. Yet in an instant he looked away from her, which startled her. Was he being bashful? Or was he embarrassed? Or could he just not stand to look at her?
"I like you," Delilah said boldly, "so you better not forget your promise about visiting the cafe." Casting him a confident yet self-reprimanding glance, she climbed out of the vehicle. She only glanced at him at the doorway, then headed into the house. Immediately she scurried up the stairs, hurrying to her room where the balcony led out onto the side of the house, wanting to watch him leave.

Love? Alexander shook his head as he started the car again. He felt awkward on the inside. Speeding got him home within a few minutes. Alexander threw the keys down on the table by the door and dragged himself upstairs. He still craved the blood and alcohol. Greedily grabbing the glass, he gulped the last bit of it up and fell down on his bed, snuggling into the pillows lazily.
Times like these, he wished he had a cat to keep him company. May was kind of like a cat, but one he didn’t want around. Alexander rolled over a few times and eventually settled on his back with a hand resting on his chest. He could already see that he wasn’t going to get much sleep tonight.
Perhaps he should have gone after her, kissed her, hugged her – anything. He can always go the coffee shop, like he had promised. Alexander rubbed his face with one of his hands and pulled a pillow closer before falling into a very light sleep.

The night consisted of tossing and turning and frustrated pacing around her room. Finally at about three in the morning she fell into a restless sleep. She dreamed of a forest filled with smells and prey. She prowled through the undergrowth, stalked animals, watched people mope about. After a while of that, her dreams shifted elsewhere: Alexander's house. She was standing against the wall by the window and he was looking at her with a set of black eyes that made chills run down her spine. He tenderly stroked through her hair, smiling his brilliant smile, but then jerked her head to the side and brought his lips to her neck--
Awaken by her own yelp of terror, Delilah threw herself to her feet, trembling. "What the hell are you dreaming that for?" she asked herself in disbelief. "That was only a joke, he's not actually that sort of thing." She paced her room for what felt like hours, but in reality was only a couple of minutes. It was morning, probably around seven and the light was shining in through her windows.
There was a knock at the door. Her mom came into the room, looking at her with big, reluctant, yet strong eyes. "We need to talk."
(dinner is yummyyy)

“Good morning Alex!” She chimed as she walked into his room and jumped on to his bed. The cat that he didn’t want around.
“Morning.” Alexander mumbled as he tried to force a well rested look. May grabbed one of his pillows, propping herself up with it. “You want to go get breakfast?” She asked cheerily. Alexander just pulled the pillow over his head and mumbled a loud “no.”
May looked around the room and sniffed the air, she felt so stupid. “She was here last night wasn’t she? Who is she Alex, I want answers.” May demanded with an angry face. She grabbed a hold of Alexander’s pillow, pulling it off his face.
“They’re skin walkers, May!” Alexander stated, she should have realized that already.
“And you still like her?” She asked softly.
“Yes.” Alexander replied as he pulled his pillow out of her hand again and back on to his face. May looked at him for a while before getting up, gathering her things and leaving.
Alexander sighed when she was finally gone. He got up and took a cold shower to try and get rid of his headache.
(Now I'm hungry too!)

The day was quiet and cold. Delilah fingered the chilled metal of her necklace, trying to calm herself. Anger, frustration, guilt, shame, horror; all of these emotions were surging through her being all at once and her heart felt as if it was about to burst from the agony of it all. She stopped to lean against the wall of the back of a building, pressing her face against the cool brick. How could her mother have lied to her all of these years? And her brother? Her father? Alexander? In a fit of anger, Delilah slammed her palm against the brick. Again and again she hit the wall, tears stinging at her eyes, which had transitioned to an amber, yellowish color.
(ahh sorry its soooo short~ so, just to make sure, when Delilah has fully transitioned, she will be able to transform into an animal/animals? Or will she only have features like the eyes, ears, etc of the animal?)

It was a little colder than yesterday, but that failed to bother Alexander. He thought about Delilah and how he was going to tell her, maybe he could take her out and tell her. The image of being thrown with food in public stopped that idea right there. Maybe he could invite her over to his house for dinner then. Alexander smiled as he opened the door of the cafe, the small bell announcing his presence. He took a seat near the window and pulled his sunglasses off, hoping Delilah would see him since he hadn’t seen her.
(it can be partial at first if you want, but they actually shift completely into animals.)

It took Delilah a good five minutes to cool off before she turned back in the direction of the cafe. Her hands were raw and scratched, but the pain had yet to register; the amount of adrenaline in her system kept her from realizing she'd even hurt them. She stalked to the cafe, amber eyes ablaze. In her mental frustration, she didn't even see Alexander sitting right at the window. Instead, she walked in right past him and headed back into the lounge area. Her mom attempted to get her attention, but with one watery-eyed glare from her daughter, she returned to her kitchen. Delilah pressed through the back door of the lounge that led out into a private sitting area for employees. She tossed her stuff onto one of the chairs and then sat down heavily on the couch, nails digging into her palms.
(cool :D thanksss)

“Hey, I know we are meant to be enemies, but may I please see Delilah?” He asked politely, biting the inside of his cheek as he forced himself to be nice. Alexander waited eagerly for a reply, even though he feared it would be a bad one. He ran his fingertips through his hair as he looked at the table humbly, rather than at the spirit walker that could probably turn himself into a demon killing machine.
After glancing at Mrs. Hope, Alexander almost cussed aloud. She had just finished up with the people she was busy with. He should have just asked her instead.
“I know you think I’m a monster, but I would never do anything to hurt her. She means too much to me already.” Alexander said softly. It was slightly awkward to talk about his feelings with another guy. But he would probably understand right? He likes her too.

Meanwhile, Delilah was sitting on the couch with too many emotions swirling around her head. She felt like a hot mess who couldn't figure out how to pick herself back up. Because she'd been so sheltered, the extension of her relationships had been minor and meaningless. But the moment she'd met Alexander, the world had turned upside down. She remembered how to love again, how to desire to be with someone other than her mother, yet at the same time she'd been told that she wasn't even the normal girl she wanted so damn badly to be. Not only was it a hit at her dignity, but it was a hit to her heart, and that hurt more than anything.

“Delilah?” He said her name as he knocked softly on the open door. Alexander walked in when he confirmed that it was her in the room.
“What’s wrong?” He asked as he sat down next to her and attempted to wrap his arms around her.
Alexander felt confused at her emotions, and why they were so serious. Had he done something wrong? Had someone else hurt her, maybe Jonathan did something. Or perhaps, there was the very small chance – actually, very big chance – that she knows about everything.
“Delilah...” Alexander said her name softly as he studied her puffy eyes. His arms were frozen in place at his attempt to comfort her. "You kn..." He tried speaking, but was cut off by his thoughts. Alexander became frightened at the silence. He could almost feel her pain as much as he could see it.

"When were you going to tell me?" she asked, eyes filled with tears. "When was anyone going to tell me anything?" She ran a shaky hand through her hair as she struggled to breathe without choking on the air she inhaled. "So apparently, I'm some sort of freak who isn't even human and has lived all of her life thinking she was just another innocent girl. And you knew it."
Delilah's hands clenched into fists. Her nails dug into her skin, cutting her soft palms where they had already been scraped from her war on the wall only minutes earlier. "And what about you?" she continued with accusing eyes that flashed a sharp amber. "So you're not human either? You're some sort of thing that preys on people's blood?" While she spoke as if in questions, her words were demanding and knowledgeable. She wanted him to admit it, to fess up. "You want this? - she shoved out one of her bloodied palms in his direction - Does this make you hungry?" she asked between the beginning of racking sobs.

Alexander almost jumped back when Delilah shoved her palm into her face. She smelled better than ever, the open would tempted him. His eyes turned a few shades darker, but he still forced himself to refuse his urges. “I don’t want your blood.” He said hastily as he pushed her hand away from his face. Alexander’s temper was out to play.
“You think I knew about you all along? I only just found out last night.” Alexander said in a louder voice than usual. The veins were showing on his forehead as he forced himself to remain contained.
“It was not my duty to tell you what you are; just like it is no one else’s business to explain to you what I am.” Alexander breathed heavily as his body started to tremble slightly.
“But thank you, Delilah, for hearing what other species think of my kind before finding out what it is I really am.” Alexander said in a harsh tone. His body was frozen in one spot as he spoke. He was too scared to move after what he had said. Even through his really bad anger, he knew he was saying the wrong things. Alexander finally shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair.
“I knew you’d feel different about me after you found out.” He said softly, making sure to break eye contact with Delilah. Alexander turned around and grabbed the doorknob, squeezing it a little too hard and pulling it off. He leaned his head against the door and scolded himself for doing the opposite of what it was he intended to do. He shouldn’t have let his temper get the better of him.
0.00 INK
She watched him with fading amber eyes as he attempted to leave the room, but accidentally pulled the doorknob off instead. Some part of her cracked up in laughter, though it remained silent. He was... adorable. The weight of the world felt a little lessened now that her heart was out in the world. No more lies. That felt nice. Really nice. But now she had to fix the problem she'd caused while trying to fix the other. Delilah crossed the room to stand beside him, her back against the wall just beside the door. Her bloodied hand lifted, stopping level with his mouth.
"Take it," she said, though it was more of an order than a request. "You've had plenty of chances to take it already, but you haven't, and I'm grateful for that. So take it."
It was a completely unreasonable statement, but by the way she was looking at him, she seemed to already know that. Actually, it was more of her curiosity getting the better of her. She wanted to know him, to understand him, and she couldn't do that if she didn't know everything about him. "Oh, but don't kill me," she added lightly, a sarcastic tone etched into her voice. "If you do, I'll kill you."

Instead of digging his teeth into the palm of her hand, Alexander kissed it softly. He was so tempted but he saw no point in making her wound worse. Next, he pulled her by her arm and her hip closer to him, pressing her against the door. “I don’t want your blood...” He whispered to her lips. Was she looking down at him? Was she trying to test him? Alexander still had a firm grip on her hip and wrist when he realized how close he actually was to her.
He looked from Delilah’s bloody hands to her big eyes. He wanted her heart. Thinking it over ten times, and another ten times, Alexander contemplated pressing his lips to Delilah’s. They were so close already. He took a deep breath before he leaned in slowly, his eyelids dropping in that second before his lips would touch hers.

The brunette found her eyes traveling back and forth from each of his. They were still a black-ish color, but not as dangerous as they had been moments before. What was he thinking? The instant he leaned in, Delilah's eyes automatically closed, expecting the kiss and ultimately wanting it. Because she often isolated herself, it had been a long time since she'd kissed anyone. All the same, her desire to kiss him had sky-rocketed. His lips were soft, gentle, and he tasted exactly how he smelled. Her mind felt as if it had melted into a hot mess. She couldn't think, only felt.
In that sense, Delilah kissed him back with anticipation, all of her thoughts on their fight disappearing.
(sorry, I didn't have any internet connection yesterday...)

“I will never kill you.” Alexander whispered after a few moments of silence. He was very reluctant to break the kiss, but they could not stand there forever as he wished they could. A mischievous smile crept on to his face. “But I give you permission to kill me, if I kill you.” Alexander joked and chuckled a little as he wrapped his arms around Delilah, hugging her tightly.
She was worth it all to him and he will do nothing to hurt her nor let anything hurt her.
