Mark had offered a buzz of acknowledgement, a tone that indicated the processing and subsequent accepting of a request, familiar to those who had been around an Albatross unit before.

The robot had, however, not been told just where to meet up with Robert, though, oddly enough, instead of inquiring for further instruction, it instead had found it's way to deck four after the meeting had adjourned and simply awaited for Robert to arrive there the next day.

Eco entered the mess hall, looking around the spacious room with a smile. It was probably going to be his favorite room, as it held his favorite pastime: eating.

Spying Leon in one corner, Eco gave a wave and walked over to the man.

"Mind if I take a seat?" he asked, giving the man a grin.

***

A knock on the door interrupted M's thoughts. Matias entered the room, looking around with bright eyes as he did.

"Nice place you have here," Matias said, smiling coolly. "Are you waiting to meet the science officer? Turns out he didn't show up. So we're having the Mark-IX fill in." Matias leaned back against one of the counters, folding his arms. "You were... a bounty hunter before this, right? An interesting background, if I may say so."

As Eco entered the mess hall, Leon peered up from his game of cards. Solitaire by the looks of it after hearing him ask if he could take a seat. Leon motioned to the seat in front of him. "Help yourself, Grub is not being served yet but you can wait here until then if you feel like it. But something tells me if your sitting here, you wanna get to know the crew am I right?" He replied glancing back to the cards moving some around but looked back at Eco.

Nierra was taken by surprise from Draka's sudden appearance in the corridor. At first glance she thought he was another Alkair, but the lack of response to her neurally-transmitted handshake protocol was telling. There hadn't been anything to receive it. Yet despite this, he appeared to be more technologically-integrated than the other humans, judging by the device he was manipulating to articulate speech.

Before she could even return the greeting, much less enquire about the gadget he held, their mutual colleague also happened to be passing by. "It is good to see you again too, Robert," Nierra replied to his warm welcome, making a mental note to ask the weapons techie about the ship's armaments later. "I certainly can't blame you for wanting to get a good look at this place. It really is so much more advanced than the human vessels I've seen so far." She turned her gaze back to the other engineer to study his suit a little further. "And this is the elusive Draka, hmm? Odd that we hadn't seen you in the briefing yesterday. Had you arrived here before the rest of us?"

Matias the security officer took Emilia quite by surprise, however unfortunately perhaps for him, her irritation and voice modulator didn't mix well and she responded with a growling, "Lab's decent enough..." Hearing about her new partner however seemed to have an odd effect on the Tech Officer, eliciting a low chuckle. "Bleeding hell, they're sticking me with a robot? All this fuss and my partner's a bleeding robot." Letting out an incredulous laugh, seemingly finding the fact intensely humorous, M's helmeted gaze locked itself onto Matias. Trying to answer, but finding herself unable, she simply snorted; by the time she was able to regain her composure, she'd let out more than a few raucous barking laughs.

"Bounty Hunter, gun for hire, mercenary filth. Names all the same... And I'm not entirely sure what I was doing here. Maybe looking for somewhere quiet to hide out the day? Perhaps waiting for validation from the folks to come streaming in as we passed Home? Or maybe mourning a lost companion, knowing I may never return to this system again? Likely all three..." M rose to her feet, walking past Mathias and into the hallway, "Walk and talk, I need to keep moving right now... "

"Well, at the very least the chef!" Eco laughed. "I'm a bit fond of food, if you can't tell." Eco patted his plumb belly and chuckled again. "You're from Pluto, right? Rough place... Bet you know how to handle yourself in a fight."

***

"Very well," Matias nodded, a small polite smile on his face while his eyes remained focused on the former mercenary. "To be honest, I understand the reasons why you would accept the invitation to join the crew. It's the Captain's reasons I can't fathom. Perhaps she knows more about you than I do..."

Matias eyed M from the side as they walked down the corridor, a look that had made many a man shiver in the past. "I'll be honest with you, M: I don't trust you. Maybe you can change that feeling. What exactly are your intentions now that you've boarded the Blackbird's Cry?"

“Yeah, rough place, pretty shit, but it does train you early on to know how to avoid ending up in the gutter. Served as a mercenary before serving in the military. I can handle myself in a situation, but as for now I’m the chef of the ship which means I’m ensuring your all fed right. Just don’t be surprised if someone causes trouble in the mess hall the chef knows how to put it down.” Leon replied with a short chuckle continuing to flip cards over and move them around.

Draka's fingers rapidly clicked away at the device in his hand before the robotic voice could be heard again. "Yes, about a week ago in fact. Maintenance hasn't exactly been my career path, but it's something you're forced to be good at in the tougher parts of space."

Robert noted that Nierra had referred to the ship as a 'human vessel', which he took to be an indication that she may be an alien perhaps? Would be interesting to learn more about that later. He also noted Draka's hand held device, and the robotic voice. "I hope you don't mind me asking Draka, but that device in your hand, what is it?"

The larger man turned to look at Robert a moment, then back to Nierra as his fingers clicked away again. "Ahh, this is how I talk. It's a simple device that converts what is basically Morse Code into speech. Helps me keep up with the conversation."

There was a nod of understanding from Robert, who decided not to press much further on that front. Maybe Draka was an alien too, but he thought that perhaps it was something more complicated than that. "Well, now that we're all introduced, is anyone interested in getting some breakfast? I haven't eaten yet this morning, so I'm a little starved to be honest."

At first M continued to walk without answering, almost as if they hadn't heard Mathias, before stopping and turning to face him with crossed arms. "With all due respect I don't entirely trust you either." Their answer was quiet, the same odd monotone as usual, but it quickly grew flushed with umbrage.

"You're the only one that seems to entirely trust Captain Rose, despite the complete failure of her two other Starships. Seems like the Head of security would have a part in that so even if you're not working for her, your competence or lack thereof may mean my life anyways. So perhaps you can tell me what exactly makes Amaya here so special that gets to crash not one, but two of the things with massive casualties each time, and still be presented with a shiny new third at her leisure?"

Seeming to remember themselves, M raises a gloved hand to their mouth and clears their throat, before continuing quietly in the deep neutral tone, "Regardless, I am here for the sake of the Mission, at Luna's behest. You have my full cooperation so long as we all understand the directive, Mr. Kingsbury. Don't go rifling through my experimental equipment, don't make me suspect this is all an elaborate ruse to steal Lunar technology, do your job; and we'll get along just swimmingly."

"Well, hopefully no one will be causing any trouble," Eco frowned slightly, before his smile returned. "I'm sure the Captain will probably want you out on expeditions anyway. How familiar are you with flora & fauna from other parts of the galaxy? Some of it's quite good, I hear."

***

"This is her fourth and final starship," Matias corrected calmly. "The first was a rusted piece of junk that had massive engine failure on her third run. The explosion left the ship dead in the water and drifting into Jupiter's orbit. Captain Amaya pulled the crew together and rebuilt the engine in less than a day to limp their way to safety.

"The second ship was sabotaged by an enemy crew, something that is a very real possibility for this craft as well," Matias continued. "They released a chemical bomb that took out the medical bay and poisoned half the crew. Again, she rallied the crew together and got them to a hospital as soon as possible."

Matias shook his head. "Captain Amaya's record is a stained one, you are correct. But all three of her ships are marked with the kind of leadership and bravery that you don't find much. You say I trust her completely? I do, you are correct. I will not bother trying to convince you that I am telling the truth, or that you are one of the luckiest people alive to be able to serve under her, but rest assured..." Matias leaned in close and his eyes narrowed. "You are very lucky you are aboard this ship, M."

Matias leaned back and smiled politely. "Good day, Tech Officer. Thank you for your time. I'd love to continue our chat but I have other duties to attend to." Bowing slightly, Matias walked away, hands grasped behind his back.

“Depends, Some plants have some exotic life, other planets some life is rather too exotic and is lethal to your health. I seen my fair share of life. But regardless at the moment I’m the chef, if the captain needs me for something else then she can order me to do a new job. Until then I’ll just cook meals.” Leon replied as he began to put the cards together once more and shuffle them.

M watched as Mathias walked away, cracking a bemused grin under cover of their mask, "So you do know what happened to Ship number three..." Having finished the conversation, they decided to start networking, a necessity if Mathias's talk of mutiny had any basis in reality, or if Captain Rose really was doing something nefarious with her crews. Letting out a derisive snort, M started down the hallway to find other members of the crew, "As if this cursed ship didn't have enough problems. Lucky he says. Girls got Moxie and we should all die because of it, he says."

It wasn't long before M reached the cafeteria, deciding to bring her food back to the Tech Wing, that they might eat in private. Though if the cook's appearance was any indication of his skills... Perhaps I'm better off on a diet of nutrient paste. Leon and Eco seemed to be looking over a game of Solitaire, a game common among the less then reputable mercenaries. M wasn't terrible at it but preferred games that didn't rely on luck, they hated losing after all. "What're our rations looking like today Selig?"

"Ah, M was it?" Eco said, looking over his shoulder at the tech officer. "You know, I'm glad we've got so many good, strong fighters aboard this ship! A rough-and-tough chef from Pluto, a mercenary from Luna, an ex-officer from Europa... it'll be good if we get into any scraps with other crews."

M...Ah, it was that person. Their tech officer, and here they were wondering what was for mealtime. “Beef stew, the ship was full of ingredients so I had the freedom to make whatever I want. I’m planning to make rice with that, I saw bags of the stuff in back...That’s a rarity for my eyes, but we have all our needs mostly covered anyways.” Leon replied as he started up another game.

“So, need me to make you a bowl? It’s basically all ready...Of course the food I made is for humans. Can’t quite tell what you are, so just be carful. It’s got potatoes, carrots, beef, and beef stock. Also rice. So if your allergenic to any of that I’m giving you a heads up.” He added. Of course he could not tell if M was human...Let alone male or female. So...He was not responsible for any allergic reactions...

Nierra regarded Draka's hand device with renewed interest as Robert voiced her unasked question. She was unfamiliar with the coding language Draka mentioned, but fascinated nonetheless. Part of her wanted to know more, why this device was necessary, though a glance at Robert was enough for her to restrain herself. She knew when it would be improper to enquire further.

"Er... yes, breakfast sounds good!" she concurred, eager to move onto a more pleasant topic. "I hope the provisions will be even half as good as this ship is supposed to be. Do you think they have hydroponics? Not that I mind nutrient paste, but it wouldn't hurt to have some luxury..."

Nierra was quite happy to accompany Robert and Draka to the cafeteria, amicably chatting with the two on the way there. By the time they reached that part of the ship, several of their shipmates from yesterday's meeting were already present, one of them even playing some sort of card game. The Alkair turned to Robert and sheepishly asked, "The menu here might be a little unfamiliar to me. You wouldn't mind if I deferred to your experience with the local cuisine, would you?"

Robert enjoyed the conversation with both Nierra and Draka as they made their way to the cafeteria. Draka had been a little more quiet, but still had a fair bit to contribute, including a little background on his time as a merc from Pluto. He found it a little worrying though, that mercenaries were needed deeper into space. Raised some troubling thoughts.

Once they reached the cafeteria, Nierra had asked about the food that would be available, speaking somewhat quietly. Luckily, they'd reached there in time for Robert to just overhear what Lean was saying to someone else... M was it? "Well, by the sounds of it the chef is doing a stew with some rice. Stew is sort of like a liquidy food that has pieces of meat and vegetables in it. Beef comes from cows, which are native to Earth. Carrots are an orange colored vegetable, kind of like a root, and potatoes are more of a... Starch I guess?" He chuckled slightly as he thought of how to describe it.

"Oh, and rice is... Hmm, rice is like these little white seed looking things, we usually eat them in pretty large quantities, a few hundred of pieces or so. They're pretty small, so easy to eat. But ahh, is this food something you're able to eat?" Robert asked curiously.

"If not, there's always the nutrient paste." Draka spoke robotically. "It's certainly not luxurious, but we all do what we must to survive."

The tall merc raised his hand to the others already in the room to greet them. "I wasn't aware that stew was a breakfast item." Draka spoke without emotion, but it was intended as a joke.

The Blue Butterfly has been a thorn in the side of business and law for some years now. After this failed attempt by the Blue Butterfly the Lunar Police feel they are closer than ever to tracking down this up until now perfect thief..."

Psykhe shut off her tablet with a sign. so stupid Psy... She thought.

Psykhe turned her gaze back to the room around her a simple little cabin with a bed, a closet, and a small bathroom with a toilet, sink and tiny shower... Not as nice as the rooms of the officers that went by on their fancy tour... but at least it was private.

Psykhe pulled out a box from under her bed and opened it. "If only I had had you working that night..." She muttered looking at the unfinished device in the box.

Suddenly Psykhe's tummy gave a little growl. When was the last time i ate? Pyskhe sighed and close the box sliding it back under her bed. Quickly dressing in a simple white tank top and jeans (she was off duty after all). Placing headphones she activated her music player as she made her way into the hall. Alright you are Mira Summers just a lowly tech... Pyskhe reminded herself as she headed towards the mess.

Reaching the Mess Psykhe noted several crew mates there as well as a large pot of some kind of soup. Listening in over her music she heard someone say it was beef stew. She moved to get herself a bowl hoping no one would really notice her.

M walked further into the messroom, heeding Leon's advice and heading over to fill a bowl with stew. It was surprisingly well put together, though stew was hard to mess up, the Chef's looks seemed to promise crudely prepared food. Nevertheless, the carrots and potatoes were well chopped, regular and in decent portions. The beef seemed fair enough, the kind one would use for stew instead of cooking up and serving alone. There was a bit too much rice, but nothing one couldn't simply fix themselves.

M grabbed a ladle and filled a bowl for themselves, before beginning to make their back way over to Robert and Draka. "Traditionally breakfast and lunch are supposed to be the largest meals of the day; back in older times pioneers often had leftover stew as their first meal of the day. Besides, breakfast comes from a french word which literally means to stop fasting. As we no longer orbit a sun, and space travel can cause time distortions besides, does it really matter when we eat anything?" Their tone was playful, almost excitedly coming to their conclusion. "Besides, I love stew. Have ten extra guests you didnt expect? Just add water."

As Pyskhe helped herself to the stew, M suddenly became eerily still. Almost as if the helmeted person had eyes on the back of their head, something seemed to draw their attention to Pyskhe, who slowly turned to look back at the headphone wearing girl. After the briefest glance at her, M turned back to present Draka, Nierra, and Robert. "It looks good." Before continuing slightly louder, "Compliments to the chef."

"Of course!" Eco echoed M, settling down with his own bowl, having silently moved to the food when the others entered the dining room. "The Captain knew what she was doing when she assigned everyone to their stations. This is going to be a great crew!" Eco looked up and noted the new girl also filling a bowl.

"Hey, uh, Summers wasn't it?" Eco asked, smiling warmly. "Why don't you join us? We're off duty after all."

"Approaching Pluto now, ma'am," Melanie replied to the Captain's inquiry as she stepped back on the bridge. "Eta 5 minutes to dock, unless otherwise signaled by the colony."

"Very well," Amaya said, seating herself on her chair. "Fiora, set up a link with the station master. Let Derek or Melanie know what section they want us to dock in." Amaya glanced over at her navigation officer. "Lilian, how's it going over there?"

“Breakfast? Hell, this is probaly the fanciest thing I made it years. Once your living on recycled rations out in the field, you learn to get real creative on breakfast. Still, Stew is more filling than bacon and eggs...And I can make a lot more stew in one sitting than keep frying pans of bacon and eggs.” Leon replied with a shrug as he noticed more people were entering the mess hall. Looks like it was time to eat.

Leon gathered his cards up and placed them in his pockets. “I’ll go grab myself a plate and come back.” He sighed as he got up and walked over to make himself a bowl of stew and rice. Noting another new girl who Eco called Summers. No clue who she was or what her job is, but she was dressed casually. Maybe maintenance or something...No clue.

He simply fixed himself a bowl and sat back.

Draka was mostly silent as both the masked figure and the chef spoke. He then pointed to his mask for a moment. "Evidently tone is a difficult thing to convey. Like when making jokes. No matter though, I would be laughing at the situation right now. If I could." Draka gave a thumbs up to Leon. "Looks delicious. Sorry I can't properly enjoy it." Draka went and took a seat, pulling out some strange cylinder that he attached to another device on his suit. Not luxurious by any means, but a neccesity.

Robert stayed mostly quiet during the interaction, but did grab himself a bowl, as well as one for Nierra. "Not sure if this is to your liking, but thought I should get you some before it disappears." Robert went and stood by the table Draka was at, but didn't sit as he started eating his food. He took note of everyone in the room, and found himself realizing that a lot of them seemed far more mysterious than seemed normal for a crew, including the girl that Eco addressed as 'Summers'.

"Alright, bold question here, but what are all of you doing here exactly?" He asked with a playful smirk. "Maybe I'm just unused to what a typical crew of a starship would look like, but it seems like we have a rather colorful one. I guess you could say you've all gotten me a little curious." Robert took another bite of his food as he waited for the next person to speak up.

Psykhe had just finished filling her bowl when she heard someone call out to her. Removing her earphones letting them rest on her neck she turned to see who had spoke. Looking over she hesitated for a moment until Eco assured her they where off duty like that would be what made her nervous to join them. After a few more seconds of looking like a doe in headlights Psykhe finally spoke "Um... sure.."

Psykhe made her way towards the table and took a seat. "So uh you can call me Mira."

Psykhe just poked about at her stew awkwardly for a few moments and was about to scoop up a bite with her spoon when she heard Robert's question. "Me? I'm just one of the techs." She said before stuffing the bite of stew into her mouth.

The hovering of the Blackbird's resident Albatross unit could be heard overheard as the machine alighted down next to the table in the mess hall, facing Robert.

"Greetings, Officer Langley!" Mark announced. The robot had been waiting in the maintenance room for several hours, only to realize that Robert may have preferred to aquire sustenance first. Understandable. Without maintaining the priper levels of 'fuel', the crew would be unable to function correctly and the mission would result in failure. "This is a reminder that you required assitance this morning! May I suggest scheduling a time when you require this unit's assitance?" Mark asked, a panel opening up on his metallic hull, revealing a screen in which Robert could schedule assistance manually.

"Although, I could simply just wait in Maintenance forever should you require it. It is not as if I have anything better to do," Mark added, in the same chipper tone he always spoke in...though one couldn't help but feel a certain level irritation in his words.

Lilian looked up from the navigation equipment, the Kuiper belt and various bodies making up it were displayed on a screen that quietly reflected its light off her glasses. "Oh... Yes, yes everything's fine Captain Rose. I think i'm familiar enough to keep us safe on the plotted route to the Centauri system." Standing up and starting to leave the room, the Navigator stopped and turned back to Amaya. "Shall we join the rest of the crew?"

***
Cocking their head, M looks at Draka, "But you knew I was joking, right? No harm no foul then."

In response to Robert's query, M pantomimed spooning a bit of the stew to her mouth, turning the spoon slowly so that it dripped back into the bowl before actually reaching where their mouth should be, making slurping noises all the while. "I just came down for a bite to eat. Is that not why we're all here?" They put the spoon back in the bowl, idly stirring while looking at Robert. "We're on the most advanced Starship in the system, piloted by a Captain who lost her last three ships to situations that were more than a little mysterious, and no one is batting an eye. We're not exactly a typical crew."

There was a slight pause in their modulated voice, while they stared into their stew, "I don't disagree with your assessment." The voice quietly muttered, "I wouldn't bring it up over a meal, terribly impolite, but I wouldn't disagree. We are a sort of family now, how about a little quid pro quo?" M puts the spoon down, turning to face Robert. "Luna asked very very nicely for me to join the crew. Their government, military, and secret police all agreed my skills would best serve Luna aboard The Blackbird's Cry. So here I am, at your collective service. Your turn Robert."

"We'll all be disembarking soon enough," Amaya said, smiling slightly. "But I'm sure the chef will have prepared some food if you're hungry."

"Um, Captain?" Fiora said, turning from the communications desk to Amaya. "They want to talk to you."

Amaya frowned. "Speak with me? Over what dock to use?"

"They're very insistent," Fiora said, looking nervous. "Should I patch them through?"

"Fine," Amaya said, rising to her feet and straightening her jacket. "Let's get this over with."

"Well, Matias seems to know what happened at least," Eco said, rubbing a hand through his beard. "Won't tell me about it though. I don't know, I just figured why not?" He grinned. "You know they built this ship specifically for the Captain, right? Isn't that something? She didn't ask 'em to, they just did it, and then they handed her the keys."
