Integra Blackheart

"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything"

0 · 1,048 views · located in Shadow's Guardian

a character in “The crowhunters”, as played by Sepokku

Description

Image

Name: Captain Integra Blackheart
Occupation: Mercenary

Appearance: Eyes like sea-glass; made for the Ocean. Slender, and of average height, with hair the color of straw. The man is rarely seen in an outfit other than his Captain's attire. The pea coat, boots, and tricorn having almost become part of his soul, as much as the pistol and knives. Bits and baubles dangling from the tricorn, tend to jingle together along with the many knives concealed on his person, creating a metallic rasping noise unless he walks a very specific way. The man's skin is scarred in more than a few places, evidence of past knife-fights.

Personality: Cocky to a fault, prone to outbursts of violence, and unable to control himself. Such was the Pirate King he had once been. Now Blackheart was a bit quieter, more thoughtful, and his outbursts of violence eerily cold. What had once been cockiness was now simply status quo. He likes working in solitude, liquor, and having a warm place to chat. Losing that which was dearest to him caused him to renounce piracy, and while the moniker has stuck, the man makes an honest living selling his services.

Image

Equipment and Abilities: Blackheart made a Faustian bargain; the spirit lives off Integra's life force, and in turn it teaches him magic, and focuses his raw power. The spirit, Bezalel, specializes in shadow magic, but knows many others. A personal force-field helps keep him alive. A stolen Frigate, from thousands of light years away, top of the line, made by off-world elves that specialized in interstellar travel, the damn thing was for all intents and purposes, an extension of Blackheart's soul. Armed with twelve top of the line cannons of varying design, two were Ionic to deal with ships, another two were rail-guns made for whole-sale devastation, two magitech cannons for utility, two that simply spat out a sludge of weaponized nanites, two specialized with with chains and hooks for towing ships closer, the last two were specialized lasers. Either could be weaponized, but their true value lie in using one to induce a thermal outflow off Stars, and the second to super-cool the run-off. This process could turn stars into fuel, and helped fuel the spacecraft which otherwise ate through fuel at an alarming rate due to it's A.I.

ImageImage

Historical Background:An Outworlder banished from his planet for delving deeper and deeper into the dark magic his mother had left him. In desperation, he freed and made a pact with a shadowy demon named Bezalel, losing himself in his quest. Integra can't remember what he's looking for anymore, or why. He only knows that though he successfully bound the Black Hound Bezalel inside him; it is waiting for him to slip up, and he can't afford to be so weak.

There was the small noise of metal on metal, sliding past each other and rasping in protest. Boot-heels clicked on uneven pavement as Integra marched through Tokyo's Meguro district. Rumor had it there was a nearby bar that was friendly to Outworlders, a place to lay low and perhaps have a bit of fun before this planet inevitably imploded in on itself. Though he hadn't been here long, it was obvious this world wouldn't last long in the grand scheme of things. This planet wasn't even ready to operate on a Galactic level let alone with everything else oozing out of the woodwork.

No matter... he thought quietly to himself as the hustle and bustle of the city made its way around him. This planet was abyssal, backwards, and way behind the times. They hadn't even learned proper space travel yet, Integra probably could've struck it rich simply selling things he managed to throw together back on his ship, but that would attract attention. I hate having to lay low like this! A flustered kick sent a can skittering down an alleyway and he marched faster, fuming about his current predicament.

The Multiversal Positioning System (MPS for short) that was built into his eye-patch seemed to suggest the bar wasn't much further ahead now. Two men ran past, one almost tripping over Integra in an effort to flee. Blackheart scoffed, pulling a flask from his inner coat pocket. "Watch where you're going pleb." He spat out a warning to the two men, who seemed to pay him no mind as they continued to run away. Shrugging it off, he took a short pull from his flask before realizing the damnable thing was almost empty.

"At least this mud-hole learned how to distill liquor..." The MPS interrupted his melancholy, zooming in on the neon sign that hung above Shadow's Guardian, and then panning over to the other sign.

'Staff Wanted'

"Bingo." The Navigation ended, as he had arrived at his destination. Mustering up all the humbleness he could manage, Integra swaggered into the bar and sat by a wild looking girl with white hair. The bartender was speaking with her, discussing exactly the reason he was here. "Yeah... about that Staff wanted sign..." He pinched the bridge of his nose with one hand, looking down. I have a headache... Little hair of the dog might help... Doing his best to be charming and with a dazzling smile he turned to the bartender "And can I get a drink while we talk it over? Something, devilishly strong perhaps."

Velera sighed, knowing that answer for barista’s question is not a good one.

“Not really, I got or rather in future I may work with police but…that is future and I’m in need of a job right now.”

Once more she played around with substance inside glass, watching it flow dangerously from one side to another, then she took note of the earlier sound made by opening door. New person had arrived into this small place, just when she memorized almost all the patrons.

Velera drank slowly, enjoying little drink that was given, all while listening to the new one speaking. What she heard was rather interesting…

“So, you need staff for…?” curiosity spiked, drinking postponed a little, Velera simply sat and stared at barista.

OOC - Well, I did not expect Seppoku to join ^^, though yay!

Akita gave her a small smile. "Police, huh? That's cool!". She took yet another sip from her cup, emptying it. Turning around for a moment, she placed the cup behind her.

She then turned to the newcomer, eyeing him a bit. That one seems kinda interesting... , the demon thought before speaking up: "Welcome! The one outside? You want the job?". Akita turned once more, now facing thr liquor cabinet. She took a few different bottles and a glass, mixing them together before placing the finished mixture in front of the man. "There you go, sir! Hope it suits your taste! ", she said brightly. The drink was one of her own creations, which she had quite a bunch of. This one, however was nameless so far.

She turned to Velera once more. "Well, you see,I can't be here all the time... Especially because of my... Second job. When an emergency occurs, I'll need someone to serve the customers.", she explained with a small sigh.

Integra smiled greedily at the drink, reaching forward and grabbing it, before downing it in a thoughtless gulp. There was the burn of alcohol as it trickled down his throat, a reasonable concoction that tasted decent, though Blackheart wasn't big on mixed drinks. His headache was already starting to lighten up, and with that thought it was time to talk turkey.

He placed both elbows on the counter, leaning forward to address the bartender. "Y-Yeah, sign outside. I mean unless there were other businesses you ran that were also hiring..?" Truth be told it wasn't even the job that mattered to him, it was just a place to lay low for the time being. It's not like this dirtball had much time remaining anyways, he'd be headed to a new planet soon anyways.

Integra's shadow flickered slightly, as if cast by candlelight in the wind, even though it wasn't. A tiny voice whispered to him, telling him what little secrets it deemed him worthy to know. The bartender. Demon. I can smell it on her. The HUD that his eyepatch displayed updated information, marking Akita as a Demon.

Sea-green eyes, he locked them onto the demon girl's cat-like blue eyes, sizing her up and down for a moment before deciding she was hiding something. No matter.

"I want the job, and can start immediately. Blackheart's the name. And the name of my soon-to-be new boss?"
Confidence, in a bar, confidence is key, so he did his best to leave no room to be declined the job. Turning to Velera, and flashing her a grin, he queried, "Are you one of my new co-workers?"

Akita flashed a small smile. "I like how straightforward you are, really. Name's Akita Ardain. And I'm afraid this is the only kind of job I can offer. Now, let me get this straight, the pay isn't exactly the best, but it's enough to live.", she explained, rubbing the back of her neck.

"If you wanna start right away, I can explain where everything is.". Akita re-filled the cup, which she had previously placed behind her, and took a sip. With a relieved sigh, she looked around the bar, a small, almost non-existent smile making it's way to her face.

Velera saw working here as an intriguing possibility - considering what kind of unexpected things may occur from time to time.

Pay may not be great as it seems, but that hopefully won’t be problem as long as it is enough for her hobbies. Beyond that question was whether Akita searched for more than one employee.

“Well, I’m fine with pay being not too great as long as it’s enough for my hobbies.”

“So if you agree to having us both, I guess I’ll be working with fishy here.”

Having someone else to work with, was always a pleasant addition – though Velera didn’t like this Blackheart person, mostly thanks to eyes.

Smiling wildly, Integra vaulted over the counter to stand next to Akita. "Yes, yup, absolutely right now. Nice ta meet ya Akita! Let's get started." He hastily rubbed both of his gloved hands together, excited to start. This had been easier than he anticipated, and a tad more interesting than he would have hoped.

Working a bar for a demon that occasionally disappears to a mystery second job, it sounded just peachy. Wait... Integra stopped to register what the odd girl he'd been sitting next to had said. Fishy? I smell like fish...? He stopped to make sure he still smelled like cologne, and wasn't suddenly reeking of marine-life.

His head cocked slightly to the side, confused. "Do... I smell...?" Now that he thought about it, Integra realized there was a lot about this planet he was unfamiliar with. "Oh! I get it, Fishy is one of those pet names I've been hearing about. In that case, pleasure to be working with you Ghosty!" Her hair was white, and he wasn't particularly good at making up names on the fly, so it would have to do.

Akita jumped a little when the man suddenly stood next to her. He seems... Quite energetic. She chuckled as she watched the two. "I'd gladly hire both of you! Well then, kitchen's trough that 'staff only' door to the left, breakrooms and toilets to the right. Please don't mind the elevator, it leads to my... Living space. It's secured anyway."

"As you can see, the drinks are behind me in this cabinet. As for the 'mechanics', this bar is equipped with ancient technology. It translates all kinds of languages into English, so understanding is not a problem." She looked at the two once more. "Any more questions?"

Watching Fishy check whether he smelled like fish or not, was an interesting sight for Velera, interesting enough for her to chuckle.
Ghosty was a fine nickname, not bad and not too complicated, fitting partly.

“Fair enough Fishy…” She wondered what kind of secrets Blackheart had hidden, but for now she’ll have to satisfy self with what little was given - which is certain characteristics he gives off, and fact that he’s from a distant place…as it seems.

Sadly as much as she wanted to observe him, Akita chose to hire them both and tour around their workplace began. Knowing where everything is was a basic, having translator will surely come in handy at later time.

When it comes to questions…

“What can I do when fight breaks out, or we are threatened?”

He listened attentively to Akita's run-down of the place. She mentioned a secured elevator that led to her living space, and made a mental note of it. Her explanation of ancient technology in the bar piqued his interest, after all he was always fiddling with something or the other back on his ship. He spared a moment of wistfulness, at the thought of how far from his ship he was, but it mattered not at this point. Things were going swimmingly.

Ghosty chuckled, and came to terms with something. Apparently they had both just been hired, which was just as well, he didn't like being behind on things. After listening to Akita, Ghosty asked about fights breaking out. Integra put a hand on his head, and chuckled. "Oh yeah, I guess I forgot fights break out pretty often in bars. I should inform you both I hate fighting, and would prefer not to be in it." He was lying through his teeth of course, he loved to fight, but now wasn't the time to be making waves. Seeing someone's face dissolved by a swarm of microscopic robots tended to ruin people's meals, and Integra needed to be staying hidden.

Akita was silent for a moment, seemingly lost in thought. "Usually, the ones involved in a fight get a warning, if they continue I usually throw one or both out with my powers. But if I won't be around, there's a telepoter-like device beneath the counter." She took out a gun-like device, pressing the 'on' switch." If it's on, just press this blue button here while pointing at the person or object you want to move and release the button. The person will be automatically teleported outside the doors and bannes. The ban works like a shield. The ones that were teleported out will be unable to enter for 24 hours.", she explained, putting the device away.

Akita smiled to herself. Gotta thank that old man for these little tools someday, shall I ever see him again.... , she thought, the smile becoming somewhat nostalgic before it disappeared.

Velera waited for an answer, and it was a brief moment, in which Fishy chose to comment. Hearing that Fishy disliked fighting sounded wrong, for Velera already made a basic sketch of Blackhearts personality – which is why possibility of not wanting to fight seemed… to be false.

She couldn’t be sure until proper moment comes, where there will be a fight that shows whether he dislikes fighting or not. Velera hoped such moment would come, for it would surely break the ice, and give a small entertainment to one or both of them.

Teleportation device that Akita mentioned sounded like a very useful tool, one that Velera might use too often, but time will tell in the end.

“So, we get to use it whenever they behave aggressively, sounds entertaining.” She replied, but…

“I’d rather deal with them myself if possible, such device is last resort thing, right?” She added, staring still at Akita.

"That,", she started, sighing, "depends on how you want to deal with them.". Akita chuckled. "I don't exactly want to get sued because my customers get injured by one of the bartenders, sooo... I'd prefer it if you could use the teleporter, but if there isn't any other way, go ahead.".

She knew she wasn't the best example herself, seeing how she liked fighting, but she really wanted the police to stay wawy from the place. Afterall, she couldn't let anyone know what really was underneath the bar.

At least she hadn't been lying completely. She did live there from time to time, when she had a rough day and didn't want to go all the way home.

Integra pursed his lips, letting out a low whistle, "Impressive tech you've got here, you sure you're not an Outworlder?" He grinned, already knowing the answer to his question. Feigning a yawn and stretching he put both hands behind his head and continued. "Well, I Ghosty here is going to be our resident bouncer. She's got that part under wraps."

He took a cursory glance around the bar, it wasn't exactly crowded, but it also wasn't really the busy time for bars. Perhaps the place gets more packed later in the evening? Only time would tell, he'd have to keep a close eye on Akita, and try avoid Ghosty figuring him out.

"Well what if a bar-fight breaks out? We can't just fire off a teleporter randomly into a crowd of people, can we? Who knows what kind of backlash we'd get from innocent bystanders." Integra liked bar-fights, they were one thing, he found, that was almost universally constant from planet to planet. Even if a planet hadnt invented liquor yet, they sure as hell had bar-fights.

Akita chuckled at the outerworldler-question,but decided not to reply to that one, not even with some witty remark. There we go! That sure is the most often asked question I get. , she thought, grinning slightly.

The grin faded as she heard the next question, her expression changing into a more thoughtful one. "Well... I forgot about those! Most of my customers respect me enough to kinda... freeze when I rise my voice, but I guess if there's absolutely no other way, it's best to just call the police.", she explained hesitantly.

Not that she was doing anything illegal, the Government knew of the Crowhunters and their headquarters. But she didn't want them to see all the alien-technology that was stored there.

“So it is going to be teleporting device most of the time. What a pity…” Velera sighed.

Integra commented about the technology Akita had, it was a comment worth remembering, but…

“Where did part about me being bouncer come from? It is an intriguing possibility, one that I’d love to be a part of, but… it simply won’t work.” At least she thought it won’t work at the current moment, for as it seemed Akita would rather avoid needless problems caused by fights – reason behind it is most likely obvious, considering what organization she belongs to.

Then there was another part that needed to be touched…

“Fishy is most likely right, there will be at least one case in which we won’t be able to just teleport them out with ease, but I’m sure you have something to solve that kind of a problem, right?” Velera glanced briefly at Fishy, taking note of a sudden change around him – something that only hunch can pick up, yet too uncertain to learn something out of it.

Police.... Integra hated the police. If there was one thing he learned hopping from planet to planet, it was that local law enforcement didn't quite get it. They were all about their own lives, filling their quotas and whatnot. They'd just as eagerly arrest Blackheart as deal with the actual issue at hand.

Velera protested being called a bouncer, which prompted Integra to take a scan of her via his eye-patch. "She appears to be Human, darling. Though.... She isn't, some type of mutant perhaps? Uncertain, we're unfamiliar with typical Human phenotype."

Fufufufufu want me to tell you what she is? Integra cracked his neck, ignoring the demon's silent provocations. "Uhh... So you said I can start today, right? Well, here I go." The off-worlder started cleaning some dirty glasses, doing his job quietly without further instruction.

Well, I think working with these two will be fun... They sure don't hold back on questions that much! , Akita thought with a slight smirk. She had seen a lot when she was still traveling with her 'mentor', but the two she had just hired seemed rather unique. There was something about both of them, something she couldn't name.

She sighed when she heard Velera's question. "Right. I guess there's still a stun-gun...". Akita rubbed the back of her neck. "It stuns everyone in front of you for about half a minute, but it lowers their strength for about an hour, making them absolutely harmless without directly harming them. It's right underneath the counter, next to the teleporter. ", she explained.

Akita smiled slightly when she saw that Blackheart had already started cleaning some glasses. He sure seems... Enthusiastic?

Velera noticed Fishy’s expression change for a brief moment, change to an expression of anger… for his features seemed to sharpen and most likely he gritted his teeth, but maybe she’s wrong. Time would surely tell how it is in the end, and that meant Velera had to wait.

She took note of is how Fishy stared at her, she felt being watched by something else than him, and most of all… she felt as if someone was trying to read her. This feeling alone prompted her to anger, yet she shown just one sign of it – clenched hands into fists.

It quickly ended, and with end came an action... cleaning

Fishy certainly acted like a workaholic, with his immediate jump to work, with the cleaning of glass came an interesting sight, Akita smirked.

Then Akita sighed, and gave an answer to old question.

“Great, at least we have something else as way out, I’ll help him…” Velera joined Fishy in cleaning, but quickly choose to check on patrons, see whether they need drinks or entertainment of some sort.

The demon continued to taunt him, about being a housewife in a bar, hiding like a dog with his tail between his legs, being a barmaid. However Integra had long ago learned to ignore the damnable thing, and he silently went about his work. Every so often he'd take a scan of things, search the place and take notes about customers. It was important to identify the regulars, and perhaps people who came her for more than just a drink.

There was indeed abundant technology in here, too much for a native Earthling to have procured, even with ample money. Schematics of all the technology he could find were created, broken down, and transmitted to the AI aboard his ship. Once there, the AI would break the schematics back down and rebuild them from the ground up. Countermeasures were made, and improvements were secured. He'd manufacture upgrades at a later date, perhaps sell the designs to a wealthy entrepreneur before skipping out on this crappy world.

Oh, Blackheart... Can you smell that? Of course, he couldn't smell it. He wasn't a demonic canine, after all, nor did he possess modified olfactory receptors. However his scanner did pick up what Bezalel was talking about. A celestial in a silvery grey three piece suit had walked into the bar, it's silvery eyes locked dead onto Blackheart.

The Celestial strode into the bar, taking a seat in front of Integra. However it ignored him, looking straight at the owner of the place. "Ms. Ardain, I presume?" Power radiated off the creature, a palpable aura surrounding it. Blackheart could almost make out wings on the thing, though it was obviously using glamour to hide them.

This can't be good...
