Sunspark

||000-467-284|| Lightning doesn't need to strike twice. Nothing survives the first time.

0 · 317 views · located in Armada Headquarters

a character in “The Dawn of Rebellion”, as played by Resurgam

Description

Gender: Male

Estimated Age: 21

Power Class: Energy manipulation

Power: Generation and manipulation of electro-magnetic radiation (entire spectrum, incl. visible light, microwaves, infra-red, ultra-violet, gamma and X-radiation).

a. Drawing from external sources. In the daytime he can absorb light and other forms of solar radiation directly from the atmosphere, or scattered and reflected radiation from his surroundings. At night-time, in illuminated environments, he can draw upon the ambient light energy around him (artificial light only: electricity or fire. Moonlight and starlight are too weak). When close to electronic devices, he can siphon and redirect electric currents from nearby circuits and grids.

b. Self-generation. When no external source exists, he can strip electrons from nearby objects and the surrounding atmosphere, but this consumes a great deal of energy and generates less power. He can generate energy from his own bio-electricity.

c. Redirection and manipulation. The EM energy gathered can be redirected in a number of ways. It can be dispersed into a wide-range flash to blind enemies, condensed into concussive spheres of light to blast objects and people away, channelled into electric currents that can painfully stun or paralyse a target, or unleashed in the form of devastating lightning bolts that destroy upon impact, to list a few examples.

Price: Sunspark has been intensively trained to wield his powers. As a result, his body has become habituated to high-level uses of his ability. Nevertheless, when he does overexert himself, he experiences intense fatigue, physical weakness, loss of energy and muscular pain. He is weaker at night and in dark environments when he has to rely on producing his own energy. The act of generating bio-electricity involves rapidly contracting and relaxing his muscle fibres at extremely high rates, and redirecting power from his metabolic processes, which disturbs the ionic balance in his cells, burns through his body's stores of ATP and strains his mitochondrial cycle. Extended use of his power leaves him dehydrated and extremely hungry. He has to eat a great deal of food and drink copious amounts of water to replace the loss of energy and biological materials.

Skills: -Combat training: firearms/blade weapons/martial arts
- Espionage training: psychological tactics, strategy, observation, disguise, mnemonics, survival, undercover and covert operations
- High intelligence
- Encyclopaedic general knowledge
- Information Technology and Mechanical Systems: coding, hacking, data retrieval, infiltration, bugging, wire-tapping, mechanics, engineering
- Mental training: psychic probe resistance, heightened memory and recall, intense self-discipline and focus

Alliance: Genesist

Appearance: This cocky young man, carrying himself with a swaggering grace, looks as though he might be a Japanese model or pop star. There is a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Hair: Black and worn in a slightly spiky style

Eyes: Dark brown, intense and penetrating. They crinkle up and disappear when he smiles or laughs.

Ethnicity: Japanese

Height: 6'1''

Weight: 145 lbs

Frame: Athletic and muscular

Personality

On the outside, Sunspark looks like any happy-go-lucky young man. On the inside he is extremely self-disciplined, focused and determined, honed by his years of training. His personality is extremely organised. He makes meticulous plans, setting goals over the course of the next year, month, week, day and hour. He carefully monitors his exercise regime and all the food he consumes, making sure it conforms to his nutritional requirements. He can act as warm, stupid or charming as he pleases, which he frequently does to lower the guard of his targets. On rare occasions, his old, happy, friendly self shines through the shell of his mental and physical conditioning, but it never lasts long and he keeps it under control. He constantly observes the people, places and objects around him, making mental notes and gathering data for future reference. When required to fight, kill or capture someone, he is as cool, efficient and unflinching as a machine.

History

Sunspark's parents were talented scientists employed by the government in the federal molecular biology research department. Unfortunately his father, being a curious and intelligent man, discovered more than he was supposed to about the Genesis project. Sunspark's home was raided, his parents killed and he and his sister were taken to the Genesis facility to be subjected to the horrible processes developed in part, ironically, by Sunspark's own parents. After the treatment, Sunspark lost all memory of his previous life, and was separated from his sister.

At first he was placed in the military research facility, as his mutant abilities made him a candidate for the super-soldiers program. Upon testing, it was discovered that Sunspark's high IQ and mental agility, which had survived the mutation process unscathed, made him suitable for advanced training in the special services division, where he was classed as a Beta (High powered mutant), pending possible promotion to Alpha (Maximum powered mutant). During this period he was subjected to high-intensity physical and mental training, honing his powers for the purposes of making him into an awesome military weapon.

About a year ago, Sunspark was taken by Dr Suresh Bhatt and redirected into a special program designed to reclaim or neutralise escaped abnormals. Dr Bhatt was keen to outdo his rivals, especially Drs Sterling and Chernokova, who had worked on the recapture program with varying degrees of success. Dr Sterling had produced the infamous ALEX cyborg, which was applying the keen yet limited abilities of its AI to solving the mutant problem. Meanwhile, Dr Chernokova had focused solely on producing mutant super soldiers, individuals gifted with extreme fighting abilities at the expense of other skills.

Dr Bhatt saw a gap in the program and decided to be the first one to fill it: he would produce an abnormal with great fighting abilities, but with its higher cognitive functions intact. Such a unit would be able to pass as a human, track down and observe renegade abnormals and dispose of or reclaim them. Its intuitive human capacities including the ability to think like a human and empathise with its opponents would give it an edge over Dr Sterling's precious AI. Of course, releasing such a mutant into society would be a grave risk. It would have to be carefully monitored. But there was no success without risk of failure.

Dr Bhatt got to work on Sunspark's high intelligence, training him to pass as an ordinary human and sending him on gradually more demanding field tests. With the recent raid on Armada HQ, the government has discovered that rebel mutant groups are becoming more organised and dangerous. The time has come for Sunspark to be deployed on his greatest assignment.

So begins...
