The moon brightens my day, but the sun brightens my life
Since childhood, Ryu would stare off into space, not caring for those around him. Even when he would work, he'd stare off into his space. He had been traumatized when he was a child, both physically and emotionally, thus making him cold towards others, repelling them away if they get too close. He had decided that the world was too much effort to care about, and had become cold hearted towards those nearest him. However, around Nanako, he is learning to be kinder, more gentle towards others, no matter how hard it truly is.
Growing up in a home with two parents and four other brothers, Ryu never truly understood the meaning of being loved. Being the youngest, he was always picked on by his siblings, and emotionally starved by his parents. His parents fed and clothed him, yes, but shown very little love towards him. Enough to keep him from killing himself, but not enough for him to be happy. Even when being called a supplier, made his family dislike him even more, for they were all receivers. Meeting Nanako didn't change how he felt, for she was just another body who would one day hurt him. However, when he was with her, he was never treated poorly, and had come to love her as the sister he deperately needed. Once away from her, however, he would become empty, cold, once more. All through his school years, his life was like this. Cold and empty when he was away from Nanako, but warm and happy when she was near.
Once out of school, Ryu's family kicked him out of the home. Lost, scared, and with little money, he travelled to the bakery, where the chef in charge had seen how his eyes sparkled as he watched how the food was prepared for the customers. The chef took him in, and began to teach him the trade of a baker, and when his parents had come to purchase foods, they were either turned away, or had to pay double the price. Because the chef loved Ryu like a son, and he had seen how the family had treated Ryu all through out his 20 years. Ryu began to call the chef Father, soon after his 19th birthday, and soon afterwards, word spread like wildfire, that the chef was his father. He had changed his last name, legally, to Higashi, thus, truly, becoming the chef's son.
